Review Bonjour Vietnam - Richmond

Like most places here on Vic Street, I come here for a specific dish and the dish here is Bun Bo Xao. It’s a vermicelli noodle salad with beef in fish sauce. It’s an excellent dish that is filling but at the same time not feeling bloated afterwards. Staff here work fast and prices are reasonable.

We always come here, the customer service is pretty good. The guy who runs the place is smiley and friendly, his english is great! The quality of food is very good, the place is clean and mostly busy. I like the variety of the menu that makes me happy as a vegetarian and my partner who isn't. There is a reason why we keen coming here, reccomend!

Thanh NGA Nine - Victoria Street, Richmond Bún bò Huế A couple of months ago I travelled to Vietnam - Some of my most memorable dishes were Bún bò Huế. The Bún bò Huế served on the side of the roads by some seriously skilled chefs that pour their heart and soul into that one dish. In vietnam the dish has everything, strong, bold and aromatic spicy broth and an assortment of toppings - congealed blood, vietnamese ham (Chả lụa) and my favourite which is impossible to find in Australia - thinly chopped banana flower! For the past few years it’s been one of my missions to find Australia/Melbourne’s leading Bun Bo Hue so whenever I see it present on a menu named Bún bò Huế and not “SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP” I make an effort to order it, even if in the instance of Thanh NGA Nine they have a bunch of other delicious options like Banh Canh Cua (Crab Soup). The soup came out to my table after a while and I was faced with some grisly pieces of beef and pork and some thickly cut vietnamese ham. Unfortunately these ingredients compared to nearby restaurants were on the lower end of the quality spectrum. I appreciated the amount of coriander and spring onion that was layered on top of the broth but that was where it all ended for me. I’m a bit of an odd type, I like my viet soup with egg noodles if the option is there, I just love the consistency and bouncy texture of them. They were completely overcooked here and very soggy. Perhaps I caught the restaurant on a bad day but the broth lacked the aromatic lemongrass tinged flavour that I have come to expect from the dish. When I eat BBH I want to be having a textured somewhat murky umami laden experience but this just didn’t quite cut it, the broth was way too clean and clear to be of any significance. I’m keen to head back to Thanh NGA Nine, not for their Bun Bo Hue but to try their other dishes as it was busy and I left questioning myself and wondering if my soup detector was off this evening. Comment below if you have a favourite restaurant for the delicious Bún bò Huế and help me find the one!! 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢 Broth Flavour: 🍜🍜.5/5 Soup ingredients: 🍜🍜.5/5 Service: 🍜🍜🍜.5/5 Overall: 🍜🍜.5/5 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢

Great food and service. A bit more expensive than otherwise surrounding Vietnamese restaurant but they do have some more oustanding dishes. There could be flies let inside since they often have their windows open so could get a bit annoying. Highly recommend the special crab drop noodles or "banh canh cua'

Top quality food and super friendly staff Though the meal prices are at the high end for the area Try the Vietnamese Pan Cake, The Pork Chop or The Sizzling Pork Ribs Table Settings basic & clean but standard for the area Local and Foreign beers available

Good beef Pho, for takeaways they put the raw meat and the hot broth in separate containers. Something to take into account when you're not heading home right away as you won't have a way to re-heat the broth and wait for the meat to get cooked in it if the broth gets cold.

The best place for Bang Khot (Vietnamese mini prawn pancakes). They serve it here with coconut cream, which adds that little extra deliciousness. Staff are friendly, place is clean (enough) and food is served fast and hot. Also try their crab meat rice drop noodles!

Authentic Vietnamese food. Service is quick with consistent great quality dishes. Very friendly staff too. Love the combination broken rice dish.

Recommended to go here. Really strange that on a Thursday night we were the only people there. Really cold night in Melbourne maybe everybody stayed at home. Food was very good. Some of the best on Victoria Street. Would go back.

Lunch time was very quiet so the food was served fast.

We tried beef pho, Banh Hue (traditional rice cakes), assorted spring rolls and roasted mussels. The flavours were very nice and authentic (not as spicy as in Vietnam but definitely to my liking). The mussels were a bit dry but still nice. We had caramelised soup tofu for dessert, must be eaten warm/hot ~~~very popular street food in Vietnam, reminds me of home.

The food was worth the price.

Staffs are friendly and accommodating. The place looks clean and tidy.

If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese taste, particularly Hue style, then this is the right place. I am Vietnamese and have tried many Vietnamese restaurants in Melb and I must say that Bonjour Vietnam is the one that makes me feel like I’m eating home foods. Fresh ingredients, no MSG, delicate decoration and authentic taste. The restaurant is quiet and clean. Staffs are friendly and helpful. My top favorites are Banh cuon ba mua/3 seasons steamed pancake, Banh canh hue, Bun bo hue and Bo bun.

Best place to enjoy Vietnamese cuisine on Victoria St so far! Their menu is a bit complicated, but the food is great! If you like soups, you should try 20 and 21. They are really delicious and different from simple Pho. Btw their pho is good too. And they don’t use MSG. Bonjour :)

This place is very quiet at lunch time and probably because it's more expensive than the many other Vietnamese restaurants on the same street. The menu is fancy, and I didn't see any lunch specials. I ordered Bo Bun, which is the vermicelli salad, and it came with grilled prawn, beef and spring rolls. Really nicely presented and very tasty. It think it'll be a good place for a business lunch, or more suitable for dinner. Nice decor too.

Bonjour vietnam is different from other restaurants on the same strip.
Beautiful food and service, lovely atmosphere. The rice cake is delicious. Will definitely come back.

The words "hidden gem" get bandied about far too often, but if there ever was an outlet deserving of the title, this would be it. If you're accustomed to the MSG-laden flavours of neighbouring joints, then you might find those of Bonjour Vietnam somewhat muted. The couple of times I've dined there, the dishes have been consistently fresh, tasty and interesting. Personal favourites include the Banh Canh Cua and prawns wrapped in pork belly. You'll also find dishes with a French influence like Bo Kho. A varied menu ensures return visits.

“Three Seasons Steamed Pancakes”

Horrible service. Food took one hour to come, lost our docket and didn't take initiative to tell us/ take our order again.

Have been here in the past but will no longer return.

A friend of a friend opened this place whilst also owning a Vietnamese restaurant in Paris. I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean it's good (there are many substandard pho places around the world and the Viet restaurant in Geneva left a lot to be desired...) but given the French influence on Vietnam (read Indochine for more), they must have at least a partially discerning palate.

Beautiful, fresh ingredients, lovely presentation and charming service- loved it. I would definitely recommend it.

We just ate here as a party of 6.
Sensational to say the least. Such a change to find authentic, tasty and lovingly cooked food. There are heaps of eateries on Victoria St. and Bonjour Vietnam
is certainly a standout.
Great different menu. Thanks

Best Banh Canh Cua i've ever had. I know its snap frozen in a box as they all do when they bulk cook the broth. However, the noodles made from traditional Vietnamese Banh Bot Loc was just jaw dropping great touch on Banh Canh Cua, can't get any better ! also great ambience in the restaurant.

We are regular doners at various Vietnames restaurants around Melbourne and this is one of the best.
What sets it apart is the fusion of French with Vietnamese.

Edible. Service was good overall, the restaurant is a nice setting. The important part, the food, was a bit of a let down. It was nice but we wont be going back.

We have lived near Victoria Street for over 6 years and have tried all the restaurants in the area. I can honestly say that this one is quite special! They serve traditional Vietnamese dishes from around the country and have things that you won't find anywhere else on Victoria Street. The food is a bit more 'chefy', it is well executed, they don't use MSG and it's very tasty. It's also very good value for money, and the service is great. Definitely worth a try!

I have been a long time diner on Victoria St and this is the first time I have bothered to review a restaurant there. The food at Bonjour Vietnam is the best on the strip in my opinion. Very fresh, delicious flavours and interesting combinations of traditional Vietnamese and modern fusion. The restaurant also has a nice interior decor, much calmer than the other restaurants in the area. The service is a bit average to be honest, very polite and friendly, just on the amateur side when compared to the caliber of the food. The menu can also be a little confusing to read. Prices are a little higher than your average Vietnamese restaurant, but portions are good and it is very well worth it. It makes me sad to see new ventures like this struggling as so many diners are reluctant to try a new restaurant if it doesn't already have a crowd, instead flocking to the run of the mill pho eateries next door.

Best Bun bo Hue in Melbourne! Our journey to find the best BBH has ended, this place serves the most authentic Bun Bo Hue in Melbourne. It's not perfect but it's certainly the closest to the real thing in Vietnam. Things to like: rice noodle made fresh (it's a rare thing in Melb), tender meat, fresh mint, and DELICIOUS soup base. The only thing that could be improved is the portion size, it was noticably less than in other places. We also tried their rice cakes which were just okay (aka: you can skip them). Staff were welcoming though they mixed up our order (it's forgivable as they just recently open). We gave 4/5 stars purely on how delicious the BBH were, will definitely return many times.

13/9/16 Update: Do try the Hue rice rolls with grilled beef - they are pretty good. Strong skin outside, tasty beef inside and delicious dipping sauce.

The food at Bonjour Vietnam is refresh, tasty, very modern and made with care. The staff absolutely wondering and could not do enough for you. We will be returning to work out way through the entire menu. Try it it's a great place.

The service is friendly and the food is amazing. The dishes are unique, definitely different from any other Asian restaurant. Making it a mission to try everything in the menu. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is classier than the other restaurants on Victoria st

We were greeted at the door by a very friendly and helpful manager. The food was fantastic, fresh, wonderfully presented and arrived quickly. The atmosphere and decor is relaxing and warm. The staff were helpful and accommodating for dietary requirements. We will definitely be returning soon :)

The dishes here are very different from your average Vietnamese restaurant, the appetizers are exciting, delicious and beautifully presented (must-tries are he signature appetizer and the Ancient Hue Roll). A place to check out if you're after something new.

Excellent food and second to none customer service. Spotlessly clean dining area, kitchen and loos :) Beautifully fitted out restaurant, lovely servingware too! The four treasures salad was noteworthy. The three seasons steamed pancakes were another lovely entree. For mains we had the chicken thigh in lime sauce, prawn wrapped in pork belly and the crowning glory was the fried whole snapper served with ginger fish sauce. Om nom nom! We shall return on our next visit to Melbourne :)

Excellent modern Vietnamese dishes! Very attentive staff and clean, well-designed dinning area. The lady told us all food is cooked with no MSG, and we believe it's true with just one bite! You have to try the French style mussel pot simmered in white wine, cream and garlic. That dish was a little pricy but the aromatic flavor was beyond words. All in all this new restaurant is much better than the other Vietnamese restaurants on Victoria street.

Friendly services. The food is really nice here but the food was a bit slow coming out. We came here with a group the food came out at different time.

I've to admit that when food is made with passion is really easy to figure it out. This is our second visit to this marvelous place with Maria Camila and it keeps getting better. Amazing food, lovely service and always something new to discover. Really love this place.

Very good and exquisite food. Went in by accident and was not disappointed. The claypot chicken rice was delectable and so were the imperial spring rolls
