Review Rising Sun Hotel Richmond Melbourne - Richmond

Great classic pub. Parma may be the best in Richmond. And for only $20 + a pot on a Sunday!!

The chicken parmigiana, fries and salad that I ordered from here was fantastic. The staff were fantastic and very friendly
Michael Risby
Legendary old school pub, pool tables, TAB and nice cold beer.
Christopher Pirpiris
Great Sports bar and beer garden at the top. Has a retractable roof so really good for all seasons

Currently sitting in smokers at rising sun. They allow meat sticks onto the balc! Meat sticks. ON THÉ BALC! Crazy night Definitely will bring the kids back to this one (Please put a heater in smokers tho)

A great pub. Only giving 4 stars though, as I don't think dogs should be allowed where people are eating.

Always enjoy the atmosphere and friendly staff. Our usual stop over prior to AFL and after.

Went for Thursday dinner after a three-year spell and enjoyed the food, wine, and friendly staff. Front-door lady asked me and my wife to QR-code check-in and show vax certificates. Then strangely, no-one (but for one other patron), wore the mandatory face-masks, including bar staff. Local culture?

Previously went regularly, ordered and did takeaway during corona to help support business. Until this week—we have been twice and, suddenly staff is so rude it’s like they were going out of their way to let us know they didn’t want us there. Quite put out at this treatment after going out of our way to spend there during iso. There are other Richmond pubs more deserving of your business. Spend your money at those instead.

We had a long-awaited meal at a local favourite tonight, and they did not disappoint! The food was as tasty as always - if not better - and the adherence to social distancing was very comforting, especially as one of our party members was pregnant. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and very attentive without being over-bearing. A long time favourite and we will, of course, be back :) Thanks guys!!

The Rising Sun is possibly Richmond’s last untouched of the old pubs and it has everything an old style pub is renowned for, public bar, tab, bottle shop, street-lined tables, beer-smelling carpets etc. There are sports on all TVs, a little (soon to be refurbed) rooftop beer garden and a laidback atmosphere. The dining area is very casual and don’t expect to be shown to a table. Being a Friday night, the place was buzzing with a mixed group of families, after-work groups (fair few fluoro construction ensembles), elderly regulars after a pint and a sprinkling of trendy youngsters. The place is popular and probably is so because it is so uNpretentious and the staff, although not overly-polished, are good-natured. Food is ordered at the bar and brought to your table. Prices are mid-range, although it’s worth checking out mid weeklies, Parma and pot deals and so on. As to the food itself - a bit mixed. The eggplant Parma was tasty but the chicken one average (undercooked sauce, too tomatoey), beef cheek deliciously fall-apart with a big scoop of fluffy mashed potatoes, the cheeseburger forgetful. Side serves of chips and salad however flawless. You can also opt in for cooked veggies if preferred.

Can’t get enough of this joint.<br/>Best pub in Vic. Daylight second.<br/>Pub grub,<br/>Pub tab,<br/>Pub pool.<br/>Bottlo for the travellers. <br/>Loving the bombers merch around the place too.

I wasn't expecting to stay as long as we did here, from my first impression it did look a little drab.  Don't let that fool you though! Great staff behind the bar, nice refreshing cold beer, sports on various tv's scattered around the pub and a pool table... we had a ball. <br/><br/>There was a group of us including my partner, Tim.E & Barerabbit and their partners.  There was a variety of different people in here which I liked a lot, including the obvious locals. <br/><br/>If you like a punt then there is a TAB section tucked away from the main drinking hole.  All in all, a really nice pub.
Hello. Imnikki
The young ones (read: Timinmelbourne and Simmyeats.Melb, and their respective partners) went on a pub crawl after Italian Yum Cha but poor old me had an errand to run. At least my partner and I managed to hit the Rising Sun with them before calling it a day. <br/><br/>Cold refreshing beer (excuse the missing head in both pictures, two thirsty fellows took a sip before I remembered to take a picture) in a laidback old-fashioned pub. Horse racing and UFC on the screens kept us entertained, and so did the pool table. <br/><br/>The bar at the rooftop garden wasn’t open, despite it being a nice sunny day and a few punters enjoying the sun out there. Too hot perhaps?

I’m a fan of what this venue represents... basic and classic the downstairs of this pub hasn’t changed much in 20 odd years except with maybe the addition of more TV’s for sport and the occasional ufc fighting belt. Good old fashioned pub at the from. Tab at the side and. Dining area at the back. Upstairs is newer with a rooftop bar area. <br/><br/>Food is simple pub grub which I like and they have daily $17 meal specials which will often include a pot of Carlton. <br/><br/>I first discovered this pub when I first moved to Melbourne and joined a rather vocal storm supporters crowd. Great for sport. <br/><br/>Tonight though just some respite from the 35 degree heat and a couple of G&T’s to aid in the cooling down.

Called in here for a few drinks last night w my partner. This pub was packed, with some friendly characters. <br/><br/>We had some drinks and then hit the pool table. Overall we had a great time, w friendly staff and punters. <br/><br/>Unfortunately the rooftop bar wasn’t open when we were there, maybe because of the rain but that doesn’t matter ... I’ll go back!

Fresh beer, plenty of options and a good vibe. What else do you want in a local pub? Solid food options to enjot with mates and prices to match 👌💪

Great place with reasonable prices which is hard to find in this area. They have rooftop beer garden that not many people knows. Perfect for summer. Good food too! They have just renovated their kitchen. Best sticky date pudding i've ever had!

Have been to this pub on several occasions and found it a great place to grab a lunch meal before traveling down Swan st to the MCG for the footy.<br/><br/>Enjoyed a meal yesterday with 3 friends.<br/>Both the eye fillets and porterhouse steaks were of good cuts, and cook exactly like we asked.<br/>Chicken parma was a good size and one of the best my friend had eaten.<br/>Chips were yummy, salad was a coleslaw which went ok with the steaks.<br/><br/>Good place for a typical pub meal without the hustle and bussle you get at the Richmond end of Swan st.

Good honest pub meals, always great specials as well. Parmas here are pretty spot on! Just a real locals pub.

The rising sun just stole my girl away.....(yes im Cold Chisel fan). The Rising Sun Hotel didn't steal my girl but it did satisfy my hunger.<br/><br/>Let me first off state unequivocally that the RSH has stayed true to it roots and is a good old fashioned pub. Its not trying to be anything its not. Its old school, old charm inner city pub with decor matching the bygone era. The darkish front and back bars, the TAB and bottlo are all stereotypical of what you would expect from a hotel of this period. The beer garden however is very modern and great for a summer drink.<br/><br/>There's nothing pretentious about the food here. Its good old fashioned food at extremely reasonable prices and some of the dishes have been given a few modern tweaks. The $16 specials are pretty hard to beat but so are the daily/weekly specials up on the board. The $9 Soup of the Day (Potato and Bacon) is a huge serve with crunchy shards of bacon scattered on top. Damn good value. (my rating gets an extra 0.5 points for value)<br/><br/>Ive had the $16 Parma and Steak specials as well and on value for money its hard to beat, especially the Steak. Steak, Chips and Salad (or veg and potato) come out and its at least a 200g steak, plenty to fill your belly, on a cold winter's day. Perfectly cooked as ordered (rare) with herb salt on top as garnish. Yes the side salad is a standard fare of 2 tomato wedges, lettuce, cucumber and carrot, but do you really care? No. Its a classic. Both times I've had the steak special (Mondays) is been good. Its not Chateaubriand but its not trying to be.<br/><br/>If you want some honest old fashioned pub food at unpretentious prices (like some other hotels that charge $25 for a parma) then drop by the Rising Sun.

Best Parma - good quality chicken, great sauce, awesome chips. For $15 with a pot it's such a bargain! The steak and the steak sandwich are also really tasty meals.

I'll start off my saying, it's classic pub food! So a four is good! 15 buck meals with a pot are great value. I like sitting out on the street and with the sun setting a burger, chips and a beer you rally can't go wrong! Well you could but this place does it well! Relaxed, fun and no Melbourne pretentious bullshit! #finally

This joint has the best Parma in Richmond. Obviously I'll update this as I check out more and more establishments, but to date, these guys take the crown in Richmond. <br/><br/>The schnitzel is juicy and not tough. I asked for mine without the ham, but the tomato sauce had just enough zing (although I wouldn't liked a little more flavour) to give the schnitzel a really good taste and texture. It was fried to perfection, underscored by the fact that it wasn't oily. <br/><br/>Same with the fries but the seasoning on them could've been better. <br/><br/>The salad had what tasted like a standard supermarket dressing, but a salad on a Parma forms no more than 1% of the assessment criteria, right?<br/><br/>I think they try to be a little upper crust with a cut of some class of crust on the side. But I didn't touch it, nor the prepackaged, airline type butter. <br/><br/>Try out the Parma. It's a solid creation by the rising sun.

Best Parma and chips I ever had! The chicken is thick, juicy, and taste really fresh. Great deal on Parma night. Friendly staff who weren't overly bubbly.

Sadest parma of my life! thin chicken in soft soggy crumbs topped with a sloppy one day old looking salad, working in a kitchen myself i know when salads are fresh as i deal with them constantly on a daily basis not a good buzz thats for sure. But the chips diped in the butter provided with the bread where good enough to get me through <br/>

An hour and 45 min wait for nothing.. When ordering at 7pm was told their were no parmas left.. then not to worry they 'found some' food was slow for all patrons and we received 2 soggy parmas at 8:30. My meal came at 8:45..steak and vegetables. The steak was ok but kinda small and vegetables were a pack of microwavable veggies. I had ordered both sides as veggies and can't imagine anyone being content with half of what I received . This steak was not worth its $26 price tag and none of the food was worth waiting that long for. <br/><br/>The place is great for a beer but don't stay for dinner
Simon
Roast Pork, was pathetic! Crumbly meat smothered in a generic gravy, overlooked vegetables.. small serving to boot .. Wish I hadn't gone !!

The worst customer service, but the food is pretty great.

Great pub. Great loca, grungy pub with awesome food- frequently go to steak night on monday and it is great! what you see is what you get.
Alex Angelico
Service is a little slow, but the parma is good. Generous with the sides, and big glasses of water. Great location.
Jan
Bad service. Doesn't have a friendly vibe. So many great pubs in Richmond....wouldn't waste my rime with this one. Food was pretty good but you can get good food every 20 steps in this area.
Tthunderguts
Rude and abusive manager seems to want to drive away visitors to the pub and make it a local only's dive
Hotdogsandfries32
RUDE!. Manager was rude- don't know what his problem is but would it kill you to make some eye contact and crack a freaking smile? When they close this place down you'll be out of a job for good and then you'll have something to really scowl over.

Best Parma in Melbourne! Real chicken amazing! Prices are cheap! Parma night only $15 with a pot of beer and usually only $20 anyway! Hint get a pot of gravy on the side! Makes it! Steak is amazing too!

Called in on the way to Rod Laver Arena one cold night. What a gem, seated by a roaring fire, friendly staff and generous meal. If your in the area give this place a try, we will.

Still a Pub. I love this place because it's a pub, in this day and age, still a pub. Love the staff, love the pool tables, love the menu. Love the pub! Keep it up guys.

Great steaks. Loving, as I do, a place with all sports available to watch, friendly staff and atmosophere, great food (rare steak is one of the best, try the lamb salad!) this place is worth a look.
Natalie
Order the steak sandwich which on the menu doesn't say it contains onion, also said no onion to the rude and unfriendly staff, and there's a lovely pile of onion on my dinner. Don't waste your time here for bad service and below average food.

Cool place for a pub meal during the week in the beer garden in the summer. Indoor area not flash, but food is generous and really quite good.
Burger Friday
The food is strictly old school pub classics, reasonably priced and set out in a comfortable dining room, replete with TV’s covering all sports. And it may be the only place in Melbourne where you can still play Big Buck Hunter. Yes, that is the kind of unique we are talking about.  That almighty of combinations of sport, beer and food is e xactly what brought the Fellows to the Riser. With the UFC Mi
