Was looking for Bheja Fry, a lamb brain curry dish. Daawat did it really well although it was slightly salty. Creamy brain curry, just amazing.
We also had the lamb vindaloo and palak paneer served with saffron rice and garlic naan. So good. Prices are reasonable too.
Authentic and flavourful Indian cuisine!
Very budget friendly with a nice “family business” atmosphere. Staff are very attentive and eager to please.
Fantastic authentic Indian food, great local place with decent service and friendly staff. BYO license and a bottle shop across the road, what more could you ask for? Also they had a great soundtrack!
I get disappointed by the negative reviews this place gets - it’s my favourite local take-out!
I find the food delicious (even though I’m lame and mostly only order mild!). I love the Malai Kofta, and have just recently gotten hooked on the Navratan Korma. Also a fan of the Zeera rice which I have not come across anywhere before.
No fancy pretentions here. Just tasty food from a local family-run business.
Daawat is a gem of an Indian restaurant serving delicious North Indian and Indo-Chinese fare. Lately whenever I crave for some Indo-Chinese I look tonDaawat for that hot and spicy Chicken 65 and everyones favourite Chili Chicken (dry) - so reminiscent of the taste back home!
Great Indian food and welcoming atmosphere for a good price. Very friendly service, patient with kids - will definitely be eating there again.
"...NO COMPLAINTS WITH TAKE-AWAY DELIVERED ~ NO HESITATION IN RINGING AGAIN..."
We had dinner in an Indian restaurant, last night - enjoyed it so much, wanted Indian cuisine again, for lunch today..
Looked online, for a place with both decent reviews, and who was willing to deliver at lunchtime..
DAAWAT Indian Restaurant, Victoria Street, Richmond exceeded those expectations.
We ordered:
1 x Butter Chicken [always intend to try something new, but can't help myself..]
1 x Chicken Tikka Masala [same here..]
1 x Karahi Chicken [this was new..?]
3 x Steamed Basmati Rice
Loved the flavour in the butter chicken, and the tikka masala, but thought the karahi needed salt..
Still, it was all scrumptious - lots of big tender chicken chunks in distinct rich thick spicy gravies.
The basmati was fluffy, beautifully cooked, but also lacked a little salt.. I thought so, anyway..
The kids said it was all fab, it might just be my palate 'gone a bit dodgy' today..!!
#Anyway, the guy said he'd be here at 2.30pm, and he was..
#Food was still really hot..
#The containers were seriously chocablock..!! Like, all double serves.. enough for 6, at least, too much for 3.. especially as it was for lunch.. [Hey, did I just say that..? Yeah, I did..]
Cost: Chicken dishes - $14 each, Rice - $4 each
[Total $54 plus $2.50 delivery charge]
Pretty good value considering quality and quantity of food delivered..
Will order again, but, also, really looking forward to eating in..
Ordered in March 2016 for take-away lunch.
Daawat is Hindi for feast, and so was having food from here. I had a good Indian curry after a long time!
The malai kofta and rogan josh were phenomenal. I would definitely love to visit this place and explore their menu.
P.S.: I had a takeaway so cant comment on their service and ambience. Maybe next time :)
Excellent food and very reasonable prices. The butter chicken is delicious and creamy without being overly rich. Samosa ragda and the mircheeya bhajeeyey are the best!
Best Indian in Melbourne. Very low key and you won't see it packed with people but don't be fooled this place is awesome. Bought chicken biryani and palak paneer and yes I will say it again it was the best. I have been to a few places and this is the best one one yet. Take note if you order hot, expect it
