Review Rustic Thai Kitchen - Richmond

Julia Bahner
Fresh food, friendly staff, good value for money, nice place! I had the barramundi filet with vegetables and as you can see on the photo it’s a generous portion - two filets are hiding underneath. It was no problem that I asked for soy-free sauce. It was a bit of a wait but it was full and they seemed a bit understaffed. I would definitely return!

Great vibe. Great staff. Great food. Had the peanut chicken stir-fry and soft shell crab. The food came out in no time and both portions were incredibly generous and very tasty. Spring rolls are crispy, just the way I like it, and the curry puffs melt in your mouth. Beautiful. Hidden gem.

Food was great and at a fair price. Ordered soft shell crab, some coconut rice and curry. All fantastic. Major let down for our experience was coming in 15 minutes to kitchen close time. We asked if the kitchen was open and was welcomed in, to be quickly rushed through our food and plate collection to get us out quickly. Poor performance from staff who clearly did not have an interest in being there

We ordered the soft shell crab with green papaya salad, whole fried barramundi with herbs, crispy pork and basil, vegan green curry with jasmine rice for four. As we arrived early, the service was super quick, drinks were at happy hour prices (till 8pm). What a pleasure, very fresh produce put together in authentic Thai style. Simply excellent.

fantastic, no complaints. the food was amazing, the variety of things to choose from and the menu actually have pictures to display the food as well which was appreciated :) definitely will come back here again. the place was beautifully decorated as well. Price was reasonable and the waitresses were very friendly and attentive. thank you!!

My friend and I ordered from here. I had a veggie curry that was decent, but with rice, cost 19.50. my friend ordered duck curry, which came with 4 very small pieces of duck. Personally, I believe there is better Thai for this price range.

The place was really nice, comfortable to have lunch with the big group and well decorated. It's modern but you can still see the authenticity of Thai restaurant. We had lunch and ordered Chicken Pad Thai for $11.00. The price was average for a Pad Thai and the portion (chicken and other vegetables) was generous. The Pad Thai was nicely done, I really enjoyed the dish. The customer service was really nice and friendly, very attentive. Definitely will come back to try some other dishes. ---------------------------------------- Went for a second time, we ordered Pad Khee Mao (Thai-style flat rice noodles, stir-fried with vegetables, eeg, sweet basil, chilli and galangal) for $11.00. The taste was below expectation, it is too sweet and little bit burnt. The vegetables were still raw and not long enough cooked. The Pad Thai is better than this one!

The soft-shell crap was nice but a bit salty and the duck curry was a bit sweep to our taste. The coconut rice, fried rice and pad thai were nice. The decoration looked nice and waitresses were very friendly.

I ordered the corn fritters with coriander and spicy chilli sauce. I'm so sorry to say it doesn't have much flavours and when dipped in the spicy sauce, I can only taste spicy in it. It came in a lot of pieces but I didn't even want to finish one.

I spent a while thinking of the correct way to write this review and then I realised I work hard for my money so I should spend it in a much better way.

The pad thai with prawns was both delicious and authentic. Bustling with lunch time diners, the staff at Rustic Thai were welcoming and friendly. Our food including a couple of different tom yum noodles arrive promptly and piping hot. The thai ice coffees and tea are also highly recommended. Looks like we need to come back to try the dinner menu.

Reaaaally, bad service!

The chef, was also the waiter? Food took an hour, heaps of other people were sending plates back due to poor food. We had the soft shell crab, but it was clearly frozen, and the crab tasted awful.

All the tables were laughing at one point of how crazy the whole experience was - we were having to pass cutlery across the restaurant because they were able to provide us with it? It was so bizarre! The corn fritters were nice though!

Just go to Jinda across the road!

Very friendly staff however my beef Massaman meat dish was obviously using very cheap cuts of meat, with half of it being fat, connective tissue, arteries. I was unable to eat it. It was also not very traditional, with the potato in the dish being frozen wedges - not the traditional boiled potatoes.
Very very overpriced for what we were given.
Am only leaving this review for the staff to improve on their food.
I loved this place when I first started eating there. Their soft shell crab phad thai is delicious. However the last 2 times I have been back I have gotten a hair in my rice and a toenail or fingernail in my orange juice. Which was gross. Last time my girlfriend and I ate there the meals took over an hour and hers came out before mine. I got my meal 20 minutes after her. Meaning we ate seperately.

I got my first Uber Eats delive y last night yay haha

I ordered some Thai from a restaurant in Victoria St, Richmond.

The chicken pad Thai was good, fresh and tasty. The naan bread was good too but didn't come w a sauce as you had to order it separately mmnn not soo good!

I had pork w vegies and the pork was dry and overcooked and it tasted like it had dried out as there was no moisture left in the meat. Disappointing for sure!! But the spice whoa haha

The chicken curry puffs were really good and the deep fried corn, chilli n coriander bites were tasty too.

Bit of a hit n miss tonight, but overall a bit above average.

Food was very tasty.
The soft shell crab curry was a definite highlight.
We also ordered pad see ew, chilli basil beef stir fry and curry puffs/spring rolls. All were what you'd expect from a good Thai restaurant. Service was very friendly also.

Not good. It's better to actually serve good food rather than take fancy photos of it for the menu display. The chicken satay sticks are puny, thin and dry. The main dish I had was packed with way too much chilli, so that's all I could taste. You'd find much nicer and more reasonably priced Thai food in the far reaches of Melbourne suburbia.

Ordered food from this restaurant off uber eats. Prices were not very expensive and worth the portion. Grace ordered the pad thai which she liked but was lacking a little in terms of taste. I had the green curry beef with some rice, the beef was very flavourful and the green curry was adequately seasoned. Would come back given the chance!

Paid $5 for a thai milk tea only to be served in a wine glass with only 2 mouthful worth of the drink. This does not help that the image showing the same drink on the menu was a completely full glass which is a misrepresentation. When asked about this discrepancy with the waitress, she merely shrugged and walked off. There is a reason why this place is always empty. Let's hope it stays that way.

Food was not bad, friendly staff...

Got sick the next couple of days..

Won't be returning and will stick with jinda Thai... Quality of food much better.
The Lionking Diner

There is a new place in Victoria st Richmond called Rustic Thai. It is in a student area right near the train station and there were many rave reviews about it. Here I went to check this out as I was looking for somewhere cheap to eat. It was a drab and dreary day today. It was 3pm and they had their lunch special for $10.50. One day I'll have to take aadancefit.
Morgueman
funny name given there's nothing rustic about the venue or the menu. Modern decor with hints of traditional decor, clean and fresh,

Friendly waiter who greets you with a smile.

The menu is pretty comprehensive ranging from salads to curries and soups. Great selection including a few lunch specials. I almost grabbed the lunch special pad thai based on the picture but the green papaya salad ($15.5) won me over.

In no time at all my meal came and I was greeted by fried calamari and prawns with rice and a gorgeous looking papaya salad. The prawns are perfectly cooked with the tail shell being crunchy enough to eat, the calamari was odd. It was ultra crunchy, it wasnt chewy, it was crunchy. I was expecting softer calamari. It wasnt a miss, but it wasnt a hit. The rice was perfectly cooked and was great for mopping up the leftover salad dressing. The star of the dish was that papaya salad and dressing. So. Very. Good. The dressing had a heap of punch from the chilli, great vinegar notes the nuts added complexity. Everything on that plate had to be eaten with some of that salad as it was delicious. In fact an entire plate of just the papaya would have been fine with me

Note: if your paying by credit card they have a $0.50 charge if its under $20.

I'll happily return and try a few more dishes. Hopefully they will be equally as good.

Possibly the worst Thai I have EVER EVER had! Orderd take away on uber eats - ginger chicken - no flavour half empty 4 bits of rubbish chicken, and the worst part where was the ginger flavour? Pad see ew beef - no flavour what so ever but atleast the fish was full - tom yum soup - haha is this a joke? I can't even with this place how are you even still in business with all the great places around you! It's also not hard to add salt to your dishes and seasoning. The only Thai place I have ever not been given a sauce with your roti bread. Don't bother with this place Siam lemongrass was great for the price and I got more value and definitely more flavour!

Popped in for a work lunch - great value and service, Tom yum fried rice w chicken was great; worth an evening visit if I am ever local for something.

I came here after a recommendation from my friend, the highlight for me was the chicken panang curry , the curry was flavourful and plentiful with my coconut rice and roti breads.
Dollar Van Sanpathog
I really enjoyed the Chicken satay, the meat was cooked perfectly and it was covered in a thick tasty peanut sauce. I also had the coconut ice cream with black sticky rice for dessert and its taste was really wonderful.

Bowbie Diy I have only ever had takeaway from here and the massaman curry is really tasty. I would definitely recommend it. Moreover the roti bread is very good. I noticed that it is BYO in the restaurant and rustic place.
A Girl With Curves
We've ordered lunch specials twice from Rustic Thai and they have been fabulous both times! We've had it take away twice so I can only imagine how good eat in is! A must try if you're in the area.

New cool thai place !
Nice decoration and nice people there :)
---

They 're so lovely and very welcome everyone and you can find original thai taste (by request).

Your larb kai was perfect for me and my friend he was also like his noodle (even he hardly touch seafood(I ate it mostly) but there were nothing left even the soup!)

Thank you kindly for your service and nice food
Andrew I Love Food But It Makes Me Fat
I've been here twice now. Good Thai food surprised me as I'm a bit prejudiced against Thai in Australia. Usually just curry paste and not much more. The curries here are delicious and I just had the whole fried snapper: Just delicious. Give this place a go. Large menu and the entrees are great. The fish cakes are authentic and better than what I just had in Ko Samui (maybe that's not saying much☺)

The food here is decent and well priced but it cannot hold a candle to Jinda Thai around the corner. That said, I can see myself returning on occasion.

A makeover for the old Oriental Spice that was here for years (and very popular) but in which its successor - a very good Thai but expensive - lasted only one year.

So third Thai in a year in the same premises - and it finds itself somewhere between the two. Certainly more upmarket that the original Oriental Spice - and it essentially has two menus - Thai street (presented by Blossom Thai in South Yarra) and the more a la carte.

We tried out the Thai street - and found it excellent but pricey for the size of the portions. Crispy pork stir fried with Chinese broccoli and rice was very tasty: the chilli beef soup just that - soup. Waiter told me it was enough for one - no rice needed. Certainly not enough....
Choc Pudding
I had minced chicken salad, which tasted yummy but it was mostly chicken and very few salad leaves...which is funny because then it is not really a salad. Their red curry was okay, like most Thai restaurants, you cannot go wrong with red curry but they did not put enough meat in it, mostly vegetables. We ordered pad see yew, which tasted nice, but it was mostly meat and vegetables and very little amount of noodles. Again, funny because then it is more like a stir fry with a bit of noodle instead of noodle dish. So overall, taste was great, service was really good (the waiters were chatting with us and very attentive) but the balance between meat, vegetables and other components are a bit off.
