Review Jan Chi Korean Feast - Richmond

Modern take on Korean dishes. We decided to go with the best of janchi set which allows us to pick any of the 5 dishes on the menu for $43 pp. KFC and the duck was just okay, lamb ribs were soft and not gamey. The beef steak wasn't that soft but the sauce was good. The kimchi fried rice was the best thing, the rice was toasted and the seasoning was spot on. Food - 7 Service - 8 Vibe - 9 Price - $$$

Really tasty and interesting food and cocktails. Arancini and boneless chicken were amazing. Really friendly staff too :))

Modern Korean food. Small restaurant with friendly service. Additional seating available outside. Food was all excellent! Pork & Kimchi Rice was a highlight, as we're the Sticky Lamb Ribs. We will definitely come back to try some of the other dishes.

A great little Korean fusion restaurant / bar. Went for lunch and had the lunch share option -5 dishes. More than enough food for us. The place is small & attracts a young / hipster clientele - however, the food had a sophistication that was over and above the surroundings . The fried chicken was delicately coated, not over-fried and great mix of sweet and savoury. The sweet sticky lamb was like a deconstructed Korean braised dish -찜, could have eaten 10 plates. The rest of the dishes were Korean fusion done right. Highly recommended.

Some of the best Korean food I have ever had, I will be back with friends!

Hello to my growing follower base, Tonight’s dinner was an absolute feast! Went with the 5 dish experience and I’ve never had such tasty meat varieties from chicken to duck. Dim lit vibe, only about 8 tables inside to give you that secluded experience. Also wonderful bar to add to the vibe. Thanks heaps!

We did the chefs menu and everything was delicious and we left very satisfied! My fav dishes were the fried squid and the Korean fried chicken but it was all amazing. Even the bowl of bok choy was some of the best veggies you'll ever eat. The service there is always lovely, the waiters do a great job at making you feel welcome. Thanks for another great meal.

Jan Chi offers a modern take on Korean cuisine with dishes packed full of flavour. Prices are definitely on the higher side for Korean rice bowls, but the portions are more than generous and quality of produce is top notch.

Delicious crispy and sticky boneless fried chicken, tasty pork belly bao, stir fried glass noodles and kimchi fries, and surprisingly loved the pan fried rice cake! All over great meal - we’ve had takeaway from here twice during the lockdown 😄

I haven’t been here in a while and my partner and I were looking for somewhere for dinner and we called in here.

The service was excellent, friendly and welcoming. What a great start.

We ordered a 5 course meal of duck, KFC, fried rice and some other goodies. I was really impressed, especially since my last visit.

The food was all steaming hot, except for the duck. It was all excellent quality and just delicious, everything was sooo good.

For what we got it was reasonably priced and I’d definitely go back again.

October 2018
We got some take away tonight from here tonight. I ordered some pork belly arancini balls which were tasty but there wasn’t many.
The boneless chicken was good, but my bad, as I ordered the sweet and spicy yum yum sauce was too sweet unfortunately.
The braised brisket bun was ok but small. Maybe a mouthful. Finally I ordered some pork belly and kimchi fried rice.
This dish was alright, it had a bit of spice but it was just boiled rice and I didn’t get any pork belly.
The portion sizes were small, even for entree sizes. Overall we were both still hungry.

This place is one of my absolute favourite restaurants.
The Feed Me option is really great to try all of the dishes that this place offers. My partner and I often do this option, however come hungry as there are around 8 dishes with the Feed Me option. The Taste Jan Chi is another great option, where you select 5 dishes to share from the menu. We have yet to get a dish that we haven’t loved. Usually with places there’s always a few dishes you don’t like, but I have loved every dish we’ve tried.
The waitress is fabulous. Excellent service. On busier nights she still manages to keep waters topped up and takes orders and make all the drinks.
A definite recommendation.

Great vibe, and food was amazing. Highly recommend the mushroom rice noodle. Will be back again with friends, I want to try out more dishes.

Really good feed! Lamb ribs fall of the bone and tasty, highlight was the chicken wings though, good size, juicy inside and crunchy and sticky on the outside with great flavors. Some of the best. Friendly and efficient service, well worth a visit.

A busy place with a good vibe. Was very happy with the food and service was very friendly and attentive. Started with the lamb ribs which were flavoursome and fell off the bone. Chicken wings next we’re yum, very fresh chicken. Thought the burger was quite good too, the flank steak was a little chewy but mainly due to it being cooked rare. Got a half short rib which was very decent in size. Very happy to have been and one that should be paid a visit too

Had an amazing meal today. Dumplings in broth was perfection a cold day. Bulgogi was fantastic and the chicken burger delicious. Laid back and relaxing place playing great tunes in the background. Waitress was spot on and friendly too. Everything was cooked expertly with great presentation and delicious. Definitely be coming back. Highly recommend this place

Having tried many Korean fried chickens around Melbourne, I would rate the KFC here one of the best I’ve had. The chicken is juicy and tender with crispy skin well coated in sauce on the outside. This was the highlight for the group.

Other dishes ordered were baos, kimchi fried rice and assorted kimchi which were all enjoyed and devoured. Hoping to end the night on a high note, the chocolate brownie did not quite deliver its promise. Would probably give dessert a miss in future but for the rest of the food, we shall be looking forward to a ‘jan chi’ here soon

Wow! I just had a takeaway Bulgogi Steak Burger and boy was that delicious! Plentiful amount of medium rare cooked flank steak, fresh lettuce, pickles, caramelised style onions and sauce - I added cheese. So good! Punchy flavours.
4.5 stars if I could for sure!

I came here with a friend for an after work bite. When Korean fusion is done well, I absolutely love it, and this was a perfect example! The staff were lovely, and there was mood lighting which would make this place perfect for a date night, decked with neon lights as well. The food was delicious! We ordered the chicken and the beef brisket bao buns, the Korean fried chicken with yum yum sauce and the pan fried rice cake; which was plenty of food between the two of us. Loved it all, except for the beef bao, as the meat was a bit dry and lacked flavour, but the overall combination of flavours within the bao as a whole was still on point. Will definitely be returning to try more dishes.

Came here with a group of 6 to have lunch.

We got 5 rice bowls and a serve of fried chicken.

Would definitely recommend the flank steak rice bowl and the pork belly and kimchi fried rice bowl. The pork belly bossam and the gormet mushrooms were also okay, but probably skip on the salmon as that was a bit ordinary.

We got the fried chicken with sweet and spicy yum yum sauce with peanuts. The chicken super tender but be warned ! It was a little more spicy than we thought it would be!

The dishes were pretty cheap. Only $14 for each serve, the rice bowls did look a bit small but since they're fairly carb-y they can be filling.

Interior was pretty cute with Korean pop art and neon lights.

The music was the bomb - super funky '80s got us bopping to the groove. Service was friendly and fast (as it was a pretty quiet day)

Easily the best Korean fusion in Melbourne. Jan Chi is a tapas style and cool/funky place. We went for the "feed me" option, but its more like "spoil me with awesomness". We honestly like everything that was served, especially the pan fried rice cake. It's a different take on the traditional tteokbokki, a satisfying one. We had such a wonderful time here.

A small cute little place located on Bridge Road. There is very limited seating but your attracted by the beautiful setting. A really good array of cocktails available here and an option of a feed me. Food was well prepared and some great falvours through the dishes. The service was also pretty good. A great addition to Bridge Road, Richmond.

A small and beautiful restaurant in Richmond with a lot of amazing flavours of Korea. The staff was very polite and the food was absolutely fresh and delicious. I would love to visit this place again.

Dropped in on a late night when they were almost closing. The waitress was very accommodating and kind. The dishes we ordered came out in speedy time, and we were left satisfied. All the dishes were unique and interestingly designed. Flavours hit the spot. The steak is amazing! The only improvement I could suggest is to have the sweetness toned down a tad bit.

Jan Chi is one of the best restaurants in Richmond! Modern Korean fusion style menu had great variety and every dish we chose was full of flavour. Special mention to the beef brisket Bao, was a flavour explosion in my mouth. Every meat dish was cooked to perfection. The 6 dishes for $43pp deal is amazing value and let's you get a good sample of this broad menu. Washed it down with some soju and left extremely satisfied! (4.5)
I went here a few weeks ago on a sunday when it was super quiet. We went with the beef tartare because it's my favourite, the mushroom japchae and pork ribs.

I couldn't stop raving about the beef tartae, the lresentation was fantastic, the flavour and texture was amazing. It went great with the fried wonton skin.

They don't skimp on ingredients. The mushroom japchae had heaps to offer, it was more subtle in terms of flavours and had plenty of vegies to go with each bite of glass noodles. The fried enoki mushroom on top was a great touch.

Jan chi would've gotten a 5/5, but the only let down was the ribs. It was a little on the dry side and the flavour came out to be pretty average, though it was better with the pickled onions.

Service was also top notch by the waitress. Can't wait to go back and check out the rest of their menu.
Bossam Bun ⚡️
Twice cooked pork belly, pickled Moo and sweet Ssamjang
I went to @janchi_koreanfeast for lunch yesterday and was completely blown away with this Bun it was hands down the best Bun I have every had!! Everything was balanced so well and I wish I could of ordered another 5 serves! The flavours were amazing and I was left mouthwatering for more! I will definitely be back! I was also so happy with the service we were looked after by a very friendly lady who was quick and very helpful! Super happy 🙏
I most definitely had a feast at Jan Chi. The menu was extensive enough but not too crazy to get you all confused. Think Mr Miyagi but Korean Tapas style. Service was excellent!! Ask for their special Soju, it is a must try. Waiter was very friendly and accommodating-he definitely left us smiling.
As for food off the menu, we went ala carte because it was too difficult to be confined by 6 items for the banquet style. My top three picks are the Bossam (pork was very flavourful and crackling was on point), toppoki (this was nothing like I’ve tried before-extremely good-although I wished it was spicier) and cured salmon (lots of little condiments around it that just goes amazingly well with the whole entre).

Intimate space with moody lighting and funky menu. Between 3 we had the tuna sashimi, the pork arancini, the fried chicken, the beef short rib and the Asian greens. Everything was very tasty. The short rib was a winner in particular. Great little spot on bridge road. Will definitely be back

**4.5 stars** Amazing food. Each dish we ordered was so tasty and packed with interesting flavours. Okay, so maybe just one didn’t make the cut - the fried chicken - which was pretty average... but the radish and fried onion on the plate were a fantastic side. My favourite dishes were the beef tartare (which looks scary but on the contrary tastes delicious) and the beef braised short rib. Honestly, all the plates we ordered could have been eaten without rice as they weren’t overly salty or sweet.
In my opinion, cost-wise, it’s better to order the food as separate rather than choosing the “feed me” option. The food comes out one at a time, making you full quite fast whilst waiting. For three people, we ordered 3 smalls, 1 main and 1 side. (The two rices weren’t necessary). We were so full. The only thing that bugged me was that I didn’t know we had to pay for sparkling water. Usually, this isn’t a big deal if it states so on the menu. But when asked if we wanted tap water or sparkling water to start off with, it’d be nice to be told it costs extra. So naturally, $8.80 for sparkling would have been better spent on another drink. Anyway, the service was good and we found the one waitress to be super friendly and welcoming. Meanwhile, the dim-lighting with some red neon-light signs made for a warm and romantic ambience.

Thats My Food
I was walking on bridge road on quiet tuesday night looking for something good to eat and this place was one of the very few places open that night. We were the only two people in the restaurant. The lady there was super sweet and welcoming. Lucky for us they have a great offer on tuesdays (1 kilo fried chicken wings for $15). :D I dont think they were really 1 kilo but still a good amount. :P

They were one of the best chicken wings i've had in a long time. Soo crispy, juicy, tender, flavourful, hot and fresh. I mean they were just awesome. Wings come with pickeled radish on the side. It would have been great if there were more sides, but for this price it was a very good deal. They have several flavours, i tried the original.

The interior of the restaurant is quite nice. Service was good. I am surely gonna go back and try more of their dishes.

This was such an enjoyable meal tonight. We had the mushroom glass noodle, pork belly, Asian greens and rice cake to start. Everything was absolutely delicious! Will be back. Also enjoyed the dessert that was kindly offered to us at the end. Great job Jan Chi!

Went there during soft launch. Food is tasty and fresh in general- but it is nothing like the other korean places that are very saucy or spicy. The dishes have light but pleasant taste. Highlights are the fry chicken and pork belly. The pork belly was very soft and went well with the picked vegetables- but it was a bit salty on the skin. The pork rib dish tastes good but it is quite small portion. Service was fantastic. Overall good experience and I believe there is space for improvements.
