very nice pub with great pokies that always pay out if you play long enough. Also a very nice member of the Air Force is a regular a nd is always happy to help your night kicking along into the wee hours.
Couldn't have had a better night.
I have been privileged to attend the Royal Oak Hotel for some time now. I have been so Impressed by the service and food here that it keeps dragging me back. I work for a rather large Insurer here in Victoria and work with a great bunch of Blokes and Girls. I have bragged about how good the food is at the Royal Oak for some time and the guys decided it was time to try it for themselves. We attended on a Wednesday night to find quite a few people in attendance which was good for a hotel in Richmond. The guys ordered their food and expected to be waiting for some time so they were pretty impressed that the chef was pumping food out at a great speed. Not just the speed but good quality and very tasty meals. But the most impressive part was that after serving all the guys the chef "Russell" came out of his kitchen then introduced himself and then asked how we all enjoyed our meals and asked how our day had been etc. The guys couldn't get over how he actually cared about your patrons. It's very rarer these days that staff care enough to come out and mingle with the patrons. Because of the caring nature and friendliness shown by Russell you have won over some really fussy guys. They all said they'd be back with their family and friends. It's not very often that these guys carry on so positively. This is the second time I have put pen to paper or should I say finger to keyboard because I am still very impressed. If my team showed as much care and respect as Russell showed I would have 10 of him in my team. I have joined Monty's Rewards even though I keep forgetting to use it and the others will join on their next attendance. Thank you Russell for a Great Meal, Great Night and for making our night such an enjoyable one. Also the wait staff did a great job too under the watchful eye of Chef Russell. Well done guys. As Arnold Schwarzenegger said "I'll Be Back".
My family & I went to Royal Oak for a quick Saturday lunch. The $15 lunch special has a variety of options and is great value for money - we were all very happy with our meals (I got the grazers pie which was really nice). Staff were friendly and service was prompt.
On my second visit to Royal Oak I ordered a Parma. It was nothing special at all and I couldn't finish it as it lacked taste.
$6 Furphy pints. Another 50% bar, 50% TAB, except more like 80% TAB. Can't really escape gambling here, but no way can you go past $6 pints, can comment that the bar man had zero banter/sociability.
Classic, good quality pub food. Nothing fancy just well priced food. The daily specials are your best bet, Parma night is great, have loved every variety of Parma so far.
Pub classics. Not a problem there. Freshly and promptly cooked. Friendly staff.
Why the markdown? Public Holiday surcharge. Let me qualify that - I don't mind there being one if a notice is easily seen. To be told at the point of sale immediately kills the positive vibe.
Truth, people!
We always go as a small group and have never experienced anything that's not up to par. The service is friendly, accommodating and quite fast.
The food is delicious with a very friendly and polite chef who always says hello and works to please anyone with particular dietary requirements.
Mostly our little group gets the seniors menu which is jolly good value, sometimes we choose other selections on the menu and all are well priced and good value.
It's always a pleasure and I recommend the Royal Oak Hotel as a jolly good place to go out for a nice meal without the fancy prices.
Typical Pub. The parmas are great value if you go on the specials nights, the Italian one was fantastic and prepared very quickly. The staff were also lovely.
The place has a very "RSL" feel about it, so you'll probably feel out of place if you're not a 65 year old man.
Good food. Coming to the royal oak the food was very well cooked and the service was very friendly . meals are priced very well and the environment was very relaxing. I asked for a medium steak and it was cooked to perfection and for dessert the berry pancakes were enjoyable. I will be coming back
We went on a Friday to get the $12 burger night, taste was ok. Good value for the price, we will definitely be back!
Royal Oak appears to be a bastion of a cozy, relaxed pub in the middle of unrelentingly trendy Richmond. We enjoyed our lunch and nicely-priced beers. Staff were very friendly and talked cheerily with our footy-mad eight year-old
Excellent pub with delicious food. Staff and Kitchen team (Dennis, Russell) are courteous and very helpful, understanding of requests for our toddler. An enjoyable dinner in the Bistro. Will return for sure. Thanks again.
We were in Richmond for two nights after covid restrictions eased. We came across this pub. Best find ever! Huge meals & the food was divine! We came here every day either for lunch or dinner. Russell the chef is a lovely, friendly character. He made us feel most welcome & boy can he cook! You won't be disappointed! We'll be back.
The meals here never disappoint !
Consistently good food and at affordable prices. Russell and Charlie are more than agreeable to amend menu choices slightly if you have any dietary requirements
A recommended regular go to
