Review The Vaucluse Hotel - Richmond

Went for an early dinner around 6:45 on Thursday. Large space with good ambiance. The place was not full but filling up (have seen it almost full capacity on weekends and good weather days). Ordered the salmon and creamy prawn. Prawn was delicious, salmon was a bit dry but good (would have preferred a sauce with it , instead of the mash). Very friendly staff. Good service. (Menu in pics). Food was brought to the table pretty fast. Not sure if there’s an accessibility ramp around, as the front entrance had a few steps.

Came here with my partner and cousin. Overall, the food was quite good. Pub quality is what you kind of expect. The portion was quite generous, we took home the pizza for the next morning. Nice environment for a sip and chat with your pals if you're in the area. Clean vibes.

Always a favourite to drop in for a meal before the footy. Even when they're packed before the games the service is amazing. Food never disappoints and drink servings are super generous. This time I decided on a change from my usual parma or burger and went with the pumpkin and sage ravioli. It was easiest the best I've ever had. Delish!!

A great night with the ladies at @richmondsocial3121 . Really enjoyed the garlic pizza! carbonara was rich and creamy, so was the gnocchi 🤪💕 loaded fries weee fully loaded with beef and cheese 🍟

I thought it was worth trying the Richmond social for a pub meal. Bunch of yobos there watching the cricket and cheering, fair enough. The chicken Parma is alright, cheesey enough, tasty enough. And some fine standard beers on tap 🍗🍅🧀🥗🍺

Great atmosphere but dissapointing that they weren't properly staffed to handle food orders for a Pies v Tigers game. Food took ages to get out. *** Sat 7 May 2022 Update *** Had another visit today and have changed my rating from 3 to 5 stars. Food was solid, atmosphere was great and the staff very attentive.

Food was great, but service was lacking. However, it would not deter me from revisiting should I not mind waiting to be served
Savleen Kaur
Food was fantastic, but wish I could say the same for service and ambience. Didn't feel attended to at all. Staff was unenthusiastic, table wasn't clean, seats uncomfortable, no napkins/cutlery offered. Couldn't justify the prices.
Laura
Parma's were huge so you get bang for your buck. Also Trivia night was fun, you get drink credit if you come first or second, and the tops are great.

Went to this pub to celebrate and watch the 2019 AFL Grand Final!! Firstly Richmond was the place to be since Richmond FC was in the grand final so the vibe in the pub was great and pumped.
The Richmond social had a bbq as their food options which was such a great idea so you weren’t waiting forever to get served at the bar. The menu was beef/chicken skewers, chicken wings, hotdogs, nachos and chips. The chips were so delicious they had great seasoning and the skewers were very flavoursome and delish. The prices were also not over priced and worth your money (this also includes alcohol). Definitely recommend coming to this pub for a nice hang out with friends and if you happen to follow the AFL they have heaps of screens to watch the latest games.

A great establishment located in the heart of the notorious Richmond. Phenomenal place to run into blokes you know. I will definitely be back. Cheers!

Richmond Social has been a great local pub of ours and our friends for the past couple of years it’s been open! I remember when it was a run down old pub that no one went too, but this pub offers refuge on the busy streets of Richmond that make finding a place for a drink and food easy.

The food isn’t too bad, it’s a good pub meal and there is a lot of variety for everyone’s tastes!

We came for lunch on Saturday as a family. My husband and I both ordered a serve of the tacos for $18 each. My fish was so small and very dry along with the stale, crumbly wrap.
We ordered a garlic pizza and a side of chips which for tasty but over priced. Well presented but wouldn’t go back.
Sinfully Delicious
One of our faves in Richmond area for Friday lunches. Food is pretty good and they have great specials for weekday lunch. Their skinny parmas are delicious - a good healthy alternative to a classic Parma . Nice atmosphere, spacious and fantastic service.

I love the relaxed feel of Richmond Social. It's not quite a pub, not quite a club; but it has the friendly feel of both. The room is really spacious with really lovely decor, and also there is a great courtyard too.

The menu is vast, with interesting twists on pub classics; but they also have some fusion dishes too. We chose the prawn bao, which were delicious and spicy, and the parmesan fries which are a staple for us every time we visit. These are some of the best fries around... totally addictive and the parmesan really adds that extra layer of flavour.

We find Richmond Social great value for money, with generous serves, pub priced drinks and a relaxed ambience. The staff are always bubbly and friendly, and we find it a great place to chill out on a weekend afternoon.

Clean pub with good atmosphere. Nice outside area on a good day to sit and watch the foot traffic. It's a little pricey and much cheaper bars with better happy hours are close by. Too 40 music from 2010 onwards. Only dark beer is White Rabbit. No stouts of any kind or Porters

I was disappointed in the service at this pub. My mate ordered me a very over priced beer which I didn’t enjoy at all. I requested to swap it out for something else I would enjoy and the lady said no it wasn’t possible. I found this kinda interesting as it was just a tap beer. I would assume that a beer which costs 14$ a pint, should be enjoyed & if it isn’t, I’d hope the establishment would care enough about their clients and the hope of a returning patron more then their kegged beer. Really easy fix to make a customer happy but instead I have to sit the rest of this trivia night empty handed because now I refuse to give anymore money to this establishment when in reality, I probably would have had a few more if I was a supporter. Oh well, more money in my pocket.

Off to the tennis tonight and had a sneaky 1/2 hour to kill before catching up with my better half so came into Richmond Social for a bourbon to calm the nerves!!! Really nicely set up in here with brass and a great courtyard that wasn’t so busy but had quite the atmosphere. Last time I was here I couldn’t get a seat so glad they do have quiet days now and again.

Have been a few times now and I find that this is one spot along the Richmond Strip that never feels overly crowded even on a weekend (Friday/Saturday night). I love the fact that this place allows for you to walk around has a huge wrap around bar that caters for both the standing bar area as well as the more sit-down restaurant portion. I love the outside courtyard area which has seating and a bench overlooking Swan St if you like to people watch (because really- who doesn't).

Despite having not eaten here (which I will have to soon) I reckon the Richmond Social is a good spot to come to if you want to catch up with mates (as you can actually hear each other speak) without skimping on a cool vibe.

I actually moved to this venue for my Birthday Drinks earlier in the year as my first choice across the road was way way too noisy (bad acoustics) and too crowded. Definitely recommended.
Good Food Good Mood
Richmond social was the chosen venue for dinner with a friend last night. Said friend and my husband had both been on multiple occasions but it was my first time and I must say I was most impressed with the venue fit out. I believe it’s still under a year old and you can definitely tell from it’s modern interior. It may be a pub but it’s not of the dodgy variety you may find elsewhere in the surrounding suburbs.

I chose the lemon pepper calamari but couldn’t resist the smashed avocado chips for an entree. Unfortunately I didn’t really think about the fact that my calamari had chips (hubby also had a parma which came with chips) so there was a bit of a potato overload on the table. Particularly given the chips to calamari ratio. Our friend chose a risotto and some arancini as an entree.

Sadly the avo chips didn’t quite measure up. The avocado itself may have been mashed up hours before considering the shade of it and it wasn’t really working for me. In contrast, the chips served with our mains were stellar. Really sensational seasoning and easily the star of the plate. The calamari had flavour enough but if I had my time again I would have opted for the tacos

Probably me fav pub too sink a few before the footy. They is always a good honest crowd. On this particular day I had about 8 pints and settled on the chicken parma costing $23 big ones. From what I can remember it was fannnnnn bloody tasstic. Not overly big but was very well prepared and cooked well. Chips had a nice hit of some random msg seasoning.

Almost prefect 4.7 out of 5 I reckon a few more chips would have scored it a diamond.

We popped in here for a Wednesday night trivia night which was lots of fun. The food was lovely and all servings were very filling. The staff were super friendly and bubbly throughout the evening. The fit-out is nice and has a great outdoor area to enjoy as well. We will be back!

The Richmond Social is a great place to visit for a meal and a few drinks. I love the vibe of the venue and the new fit out is great.
On my first visit I had the flame grilled calamari salad and my friend had the Margherita pizza. We were both very happy with our meals and believe they are reasonably priced. The calamari was grilled perfectly and the flavours of the salad really complimented each other. I love that there is so many different options on the menu which caters for everyone's preferences.
On my second visit I got the traditional chicken Parma with chips and salad. It was one of the best parmas I've had and the chips were delicious, they had a zesty flavour to them.
Bar and wait staff are very friendly and helpful.

Stumbled in here after a night out. Looked like a great new refreshing fit out with large flat screen TV with sporting events. We only got an after dinner scotch and dry as we were looking to unwind after a big Friday night. Will be back.

Solid pub feed with generous servings! The sweet potato fries are always cooked to perfection and the arancini balls are a must try. You can’t go wrong with the pizzas either!

Won't be back again. Upon ordering three meals separately on a thursday evening, two of which were delivered to us, the waitress apologised to me and mentioned my payment had failed to go through 15min earlier when we ordered (she didn't seem sure about the payment process at the time). I asked if my meal had even been made by the kitchen and she replied no. She then took my card again and processed the payment. She was apologetic, however she could have made an effort to reconcile the stuff up considering i was sitting there watching my friends eat their meals, none of which was my own fault, a complimentary bev or a discount on the meal would have been appropriate. Upon ordering more drinks we were then told the cooling system for the draught beer had failed and the beer would be warm.
The venue itself was nice, but the systems and operations failed. The corner hotel rooftop or fargo & co across the road would be a better choice.

Really enjoyed Richmond Social for a casual reasonably priced week night dinner. I ordered the Asian style calamari salad which was absolutely delicious. The calamari was perfectly cooked and not chewy in the slightest. The venue has a nice and spacious design and the court yard area is great for drinks in nice weather. It was Parma night when I was there and they all looked fantastic coming out from the kitchen.

We'd left a function and wanted to have a few drinks to finish off the evening. Luckily Richmond Social was open. This is a great space and even though it was late at night it had a really good atmosphere. The staff were great and there was a good range of drinks.
Parma Daze
It's not often we are on the ball enough to get to a pub when it is this brand spanking new. Opening its doors in the final days of September, walking into the Richmond Social still smells new. Like a new car, but with more booze. The old Vaucluse Hotel is unrecognisable, and definitely for the better. Richmond Social is an open, inviting and all round cool pub in which to drink away the day. With a spacious outdoor area (I hesitate to call it a "beer garden" as I don't remember seeing any trees), super inviting front bar with three massive TV's adorning the wall, and a ridiculously huge bistro up the side - Basically whatever mood you're in you'll find a comfy spot to pull up a chair.

Went for drinks here. This renovated pub is big, but with a lot of smaller spaces to hang out.

They have a small selection of craft beer. This is more of a Carlton Draught pub.

The outdoor space was good on a sunny afternoon and the beers cold... happy days lol
The Dear Luncher
The Vauc has been a destination for The Dear Luncher quite a few times over the journey. However, never for food until recently. A fairly lacklustre pizza was devoured so as to line the stomach in anticipation of some heavy drinking. It didn't work. The Dear Luncher still ended up really drunk and really hungover.
Bigdoggeats
Great atmosphere with plenty of tvs with all different sports on. Enjoyed my night here. Food was great. Parma was good. Chips were fairly average and had I not been so drunk I probably would have sent them back. Menu is fairly small but does the job. Great for an after footy meal.

The food is fabulous and so is the service. I had an amazing time while going out for lunch. I had ordered the pulled pork burgers, buffalo wings, fish and chips and the pumpkin fettucini. All of the items were fantastic. The truly stand out ones were the pulled pork burgers and the pumpkin fettucini.

Ive had some good parmas before... but WOW!!!
BIG... MOIST AND JUICY... JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT.

Make you stop here on your way through Richmond... you wont regret it.

Vaucluse is located about a stone's throw away from East Richmond station and a ten minute walk from the MCG. The punters love their football games as they have the live footy on the screen. The waitress (I think she was a Canadian) seemed sour. It wasn't her day. She broke one glass and lost my order.
Kimmythefoodlover
This looks like your average everyday neighbourhood pub but don't simply judge a book by its cover. Their food is awesome and so is the service. Can't fault it. We had the rump steak and it was chewy and juicy, the lamb penne was cooked to a much better standard than some of those supposedly high-class Italian restaurants out there. Will be back!

Avoid. I have never written a review on here before, but after the meal I had last night I felt I had to. As others have said, under new management, the food at the Vaucluse has really gone down hill. I paid $14 for nachos last night, which are quite easy to make. However I was served something that was completely inedible. The chips were a wierd cheese flavour, not the sort of chips you use for nachos, the salsa was obviously from a jar and the guacamole was lumpy and almost black in colour. It was obvious that they had thrown a couple of cheap and nasty ingredients on a plate and stuck it in the microwave. Also the size of the meal was quite small (not that I could eat much of it anyway). For $14 you would expect a meal if nachos.

I am quite easy to please, but this was simply too disgusting to eat.
Parmasofmelbourne
Parmasofmelbourne. An off the books parma night was upon us. Myself and a fellow member of POM were off to see Chet Faker at the Palais, so we thought what better way to start off the night than with a Chicken parma. The Vaucluse hotel in Richmond was recommended to us so we made our way down. Upon arrival we noticed the pub had a $15 parma + pot special on thursdays, ripper.
The pub was quite busy when we walked in. There was plenty of parmas around and boy did they looked solid.
We placed our order at the bar and took a seat. Customer service was awesome. Nice and friendly staff always scores points for us. Nothing worse than rude staff.
They had a selection of parmas to choose from but we just went with the traditional.
Our parmas rolled out within 20 mins or so. First impressions were quite good. Parmas size varied round the table. These birds had some real thickness to them.
The chicken was one of the standouts of the meal. Real fresh chicken which is always a big ups.
The crumbing was quite good aswell. The schnitzel was a tad overcooked in my opinion which made the chicken quite dry at times. Only a minor complaint though.
The napoli was just how we like it. Plenty of it, home made and fresh.
The cheese was at its average. Wasn’t amazing but wasn’t bad either. It was a tad tasteless and dry at times but didn’t annoy us to much.
The chips were on point. Nice and crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. It kept us wanting more.
The veggies were served quite cold but had a good mixture of greens which was good to see.
Overall we were quite surprised as we didn’t really know what to expect walking into this pub. The parma was delicious and for $15 you can’t go wrong with this place. If your craving a parma on a Thursday , we definitly recommend giving this place a shot. Great Pub, great Parma.
7.5/10

Very solid parma, $21 on a Saturday night, before the footy. Proper breast with a nice crispy breadcrumb. There wasn’t a spare table in the house, as the NRL and AFL were on and they had the food out in 15 mins
Stinga24
Downhill Food. This used to offer one of the best pub feeds in Richmond. Sadly the food has gone downhill as i believe this is now under new management. Very disappointed when we dined here recently, steak was overcooked, sauce was cold, mash potato was packet Deb mash and salad was not fresh (wrinkly cucumber).

Solid Parma. Very solid parma, $21 bones on a saturday night before the footy. proper breast with a nice crispy breadcrumb. there wasn't a spare table in the house as the NRL and AFL was on and they had the food out in 15 mins.

I got served beef ribs after I ordered pork ribs.
The manager went to the kitchen to discuss with the chef only to return and try to convince me they were actually pork. I had to laugh. Nice try mate.
Don't p##s in my pocket and tell me it's raining. Nice bar staff but will not be returning.

Best steak I have tasted. The fillet was soft, tender and juicy. Well done chef, you rock.

This place used to be good with great variety in the menu. But ever since management has changed food is crap. All awesome dishes like the Mexican Parma are gone.

Yummo! Had a yummy steak cooked to my liking and the beer is always tasty here. Not to mention the deals that are offered from time to time.. Stubby of Tiger for $5 was awesome! Great night overall and always a thumbs up when you can have a good feed, beers and a punt!! Pokies area looking freshly renovated and Tab area is comfy .. The staff in the past were questionable but since new owners have taken over this place is our new local!! We'll definitely be back often!
Cremorne Local
Value for money. This is your no frills kind of bar. Cheap food (but really decent servings), reasonably priced drinks, average atmosphere (tab facilities there). Happy to come here more often due to the laid back environment and value for money.

Lots of Time.... Ah! To the dedicated people of the Beretta's Vaucluse Family- don't ever change! This place is solid. It is what it is and it does it better, faster, harder, and cheaper than anyone else on the block (and this is a competitive block.) Would I be impressed being taken here on a first date? Perhaps not but perhaps... no definitely not. But a 22nd date? a 73rd? No issue at all. It will take a few taste tests to work out your best order but with the lovely laid back staff and the many TVs and the great prices of both the food and drink- you will come back often enough to try a few things. (and to Paul- you are just the cherry on top- no changing for you either!) Thanks guys.

7/10. Delish herb and cheese pizza. Mexican parma was great value for $13, yummy chips but bits of the chicken were kinda pink. Kiev was questionable, not like any I've had before. Pear and strawberry cider on tap is always a win. Very friendly staff!
Bonnie K
$13 steak&parmas at lunch FTW ! &chips are always fresh&crunchy;
Staff are friendly&just an awesome atmosphere in general !
Binggo
Great food, reasonable price. I have the best chicken kiev, real whole chicken breast, fancy with a wing bones. My friend told me that is a real kiev cut chicken breast.
Murphy Scanlon
Got the chicken Kiev & it barely tasted like chicken. The staff replaced it quickly but it was really really bad quality.
Charlie
Best bang for buck meal for 13 bucks....great food...loved it :)

Toasty. This is a great hotel which has everything - an 'indoor/outdoor' smokers area; TAB; gaming area which is well away from the general dining area... The food is inexpensive and generous, and very good. I recommend the Tempura Prawns. The Vaclause also has music which at lunchtime is not too loud, and the tables are well spaced. But the best thing is the staff who without exception were friendly and efficient (regularly clearing used dishes and glasses from tables).
