Review Macgill's - Richmond

Great find in Richmond for brunch and cakes. Affordable. Lovely staff. Plenty of seating. Can improve on brunch variety though. 4.5 stars ☺️

I came in rushed to organise catering for a meeting in about 2 hours. I needed to organise coffee, cakes, drinks and sandwiches. Amy and her team made it look easy. Took the stress away, asked the right questions and even walked it 500m down the road at two different times. First the coffee order and then lunch. The bonus is food is fresh, healthy and the deserts are amazing. Try the baclava! This is a palace with right combination of service and food. Love it!

Not bad but not great. The coffee is too weak for my liking and the hazelnut slice is reminiscent of something you would get in Ikea. That's not a bad thing necessarily, Ikea desserts hit the spot when you need a sugar fix.

Having heard the news of its closure of this institution is an absolute devastation. I remember the initial owner when I was a child selling papers from the local paper shop on Swan Street and I would sell to him the Greek newspaper. He loved his Greek Easter which was celebrated annually and with pride. This will be severely missed and be fond memories. Θα μας λείψεις.

This was the first time ever. A huge variety. Staff was quite friendly.

Best chocolate baklava I've ever eaten for one. Secondly, the staff were so friendly and accomodating. Finally, all the items we ordered off the menu, trust me we ordered a lot, were all awesome!! Loved it, will be back, again, and again.

I love this cafe. It's history makes the operation even more memorable. The cafe is the former family home. A considered reno opened it up to the excellent eatery it is today. The big marble benches in the kitchen are a sight to behold when full of food. In my Melbourne top 10 eateries

Not a bad spot for a coffee, hidden away just enough that you aren't fighting for a table

2.5/5
I came her to get some take away coffees aka I saw the pies so I grabbed a couple as they look so good. I brought a strong skinny latte and a strong almond latte.
The coffees were pretty ordinary to be honest, they weren’t too good. The coffees weren’t strong and they were almost cold. 2/5

My chicken pie was ok, the top was great but the base was thick and gluggy. No good at all. The filling was good but there wasn’t much filling at all, it was disappointing overall.

The chunky beef pie was very similar, with a bit more meat than the chicken pie, but it was soo full of watery gravy making it messy and not the best.

I wish I could give this place more than a 2.5/5 but really I can’t honestly.

My favourite bakery in the area! Although the shop front is not as fancy as many other places in Richmond, it’s a humble place with seriously good pastries. I love the pies and sausage rolls.
For sweets, the apple tart is yum but my favourite is the chocolate tart...it’s amazingggg🤤

Start with the positives... sausage roll was absolutely 10/10, excellent pastry flavour and temperature couldn’t fault it. Pie was also great temp and pastry but flavours weren’t great... too oniony and not enough beefiness. Need some more flavours to choose from too.

Without question the best pies and sausage rolls in Richmond, and I’ve had them all. One of the best in Melbourne I would say. Beautiful tasty pastry and delicious fillings.

Always on the hunt for an establishment as good as Swan Street Bakery & Patisserie.
Really good range of delicious pastries, cakes and slices. Freshly made selection of filled rolls are hard to pass up as are the pies.
Favourite is definitely an Almond Croissant.
Good coffees too and great value for freshly baked and prepared food.
Great bread, quiches and yummy treats. Love the lemon meringue, carrot cake, sticky date and chocolate orange cake. Custom cakes I see in the displays look insane like this one!

An amazing bakery with the most fabulous offerings. The lemon tart is worth the trip to their store alone.

An added bonus is their sandwiches and rolls - much cheaper than most of the nearby cafes and better flavour too.

Such a wonderful bakery. Visited previously as I like their cupcakes. I wasn't very organised and ordered a cake at the last minute. Explained my situation and they made it on time and it was brilliant!

Lovely owner and staff who were quite welcoming. Typical example of your local bakery that opens early to serve freshly baked pastries. The pastries we tried were light and salted moderately. There were a few chairs inside so you can eat in as well.

Delicious freshly baked food. The sausage roll is the perfect example of a home made tasty treat. Tried quite a few of cakes and have never been disappointed! Owner is lovely and after chatting with her you can tell how passionate she is about it, and it really shows in the quality of everything! Only downside is that its not open Sundays :(

We've been looking everywhere for a good lemon meringue pie in Melbourne. This little bakery in Richmond definitely delivers. Lucky we called ahead to reserve our slice. Definitely sells out fast.

Please try a balck forest cake. I ordered it for my partner's birthday. You wouldn't be able to find a better one than this! Also cherry cheese cake is fabulous. Not sure why rates are not high enough.. Must be competitors!
Byron's Vanilla Slice Blog
Rating: 8/10.
At $4.50 for a monstrous sized slice, I was hoping the French Vanilla slice would be good value for money....and indeed it did not disappoint. The pastry was divine; thin, crisp, flaky and buttery. The filling a light, fluffy vanilla cream that was packed full of vanilla flavouring. Enough dusted sugar to cut through the saltiness of the pastry and when sampled all together a delicious balance of flavours and textures. Easy to cut, easy to consume and given the size and quality a very good pit stop on the way to and/or from work!

Let's keep this fabulous gem a secret from the world. I've had many items from the Swan Street Bakery and Patisserie and enjoyed their coffee a couple of times. Everything about this place is fantastic, from the friendly staff through to the fabulous food and the lovely coffee. I haven't had anything that wasn't first class. Last weekend my daughter held a 70th birthday party and got the birthday cake from here (not the first one she's had from here either). It was absolutely sensational. The cake wasn't too sweet, nor the buttercream icing. It was just gorgeous and thoroughly enjoyed by all those lucky enough to be at the party. We've had all sorts of things from the Bakery both for ourselves and for parties. Their bread is fabulous and even their filled bread rolls are way above average - and very cheap. There is everything to love about the Swan Street Bakery & Patisserie and nothing to not love. But could we keep this a secret from the rest of the world?

Lemon tart here is fantastic, good selection of other cakes. Very simple and pleasant.

Amazing Fresh Food & the best coffee. I stumbled upon this little bakery a month ago and since then I purchase from them everyday. The girls are so lovely and friendly, they enjoy to talk about the good they are baking, I can tell you the food is a pleasure to eat, I haven't tasted such tasty bread in years, you can eat the bread without anything on it, in fact you want to eat the bread that way. The hot food selection pies, pasties and quiches such a pleasure you can taste the ingredients the full flavor of the meat/chicken and veggies. Their croissants are buttery with the right amount of crispy crunch when you bite into them. I love their baked custard tarts, they have a Christmas range of biscotti they are baking at the moment yummmmmmy. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking for tasty food, a good loaf or stick of bread for dinner. When you visit don't forget to try their coffee.

A Hidden gem on Swan Street. Had a fabulous coffee and wonderful Fresh bread roll followed by an fresh baked Almondine that tasted like it was just out of the oven! The service was incredibly inviting and fun and the atmosphere very friendly. Well priced, good quality, fresh and ever so tasty! I think its certainly worth a visit! Keep it up and well done!

Happened to drive past this little gem when the brunch place I wanted to go to had too long a wait - very glad I stopped by. Fantastic baguette, croissant and quiche - they taste so fresh and natural, like home cooked food. Coffee was also great - will definitely be back if I'm in the area.

The best.... The cherry cheesecake and lemon meringue are next level..
NomNomChippie
The "next" level cakes!!!. I am very picky cause i do not enjoy too sweet aussie cakes so it is hard to find the perfect sweets for me. This bakery is the best in my life. Everything is just perfect. They bake every morning and bread and cakes are all very fresh. Sweetness is enough, fruits are all fresh and their meringue lemon tart will take you heaven.

Nothing beats a convenient, fairly priced, fresh loaf of bread first thing in the morning!
