Review Coal Valley Creamery - Richmond

A little hidden gem!šŸ¦šŸ« My partner and I are from SA and were travelling from Hobart to Launceston and saw a brochure for this place. Being huge Gelatissimo lovers and reading the reviews, we knew we had to stop by. The lady serving us was lovely and allowed us to try 2 flavours each. She told us they make over 50 flavours and rotate them regularly. My partner was looking forward to trying the apricot gelato but it wasn't available, so he opted for Fresh Mango and Mint. I chose the Belgian Chocolate and Lemon Sorbet. I didn't expect the strong, tangy and sweet flavour of the lemon, so probably not a flavour I'd have again, however the Belgian Chocolate was divine! The Mango and Mint was delicious too. A very authentic experience that doesn't taste like the low quality, watery/ icy stuff you get from the supermarket. A great find in the little town of Richmond.

If you are in Richmond town, and tired after clicking and posing in front of the bridge; make sure you drop by this ice creamery to refresh yourself. I found their icecreams worth a visit from Hobart itself if you are not a touristy type of person to travel 25odd kms in pull of a 150yr old bridge. Great varieties, friendly service and great ice creams/milkshakes and coffees.

The most amazing tasting gelato/ice cream we've ever tasted- and my sister used to work in a gelato store so we have tasted a fair share of ice cream! We purchased After Dinner Mint and Strawberry and they wer delicious. Staff were friendly and efficient and let us try 2 flavours each.

Beautiful little ice cream shop but I donā€™t really need to tell you that. They have an array of accolades on display which is a testament to their commitment in perfecting their flavours. Iā€™ve had the other ice cream company here which I donā€™t really rate - Valhalla. The lady behind the counter encouraged me to try the Tasmania lavender flavour and it was magical! Iā€™d happily drive back to Richmond for an ice cream

YUM! Found this treasure on our second day in Tasmania. One of the best gelato's we tried on our holiday. Loved it so much, detoured back there on our way to the airport before flying out.

After reading all the good reviews and seeing all the medals paraded on their website, I was extremely eager to visit this creamery with my family. We drove to Richmond on a warm Sunday afternoon the 10th of January, and after a very unappetising lunch at a neighbouring cafe, we thought at least a visit to this place would cheer our mood. So, with extremely high hopes we walked into the shop and the first thing that catches your eye are all the ā€˜medalsā€™ displayed above your head and we got so excited thinking this was going to be an extra-ordinary treat. We walked in further only too see a handful of options. I asked the staff if they had their ā€˜famousā€™ pistachio ice cream or rum and raisin, she replied very annoyed with a no saying that they have over 50 different flavours and they rotate it every day. Ok fine. So, then the blackberry sorbet caught my eye and I ordered a small scoop. My daughter and my friend both ordered the choc mint. And while ordering, the staff were not friendly at all especially the person at the counter taking the payment. A simple smile can go a long way! And too not feel welcomed would be enough to never come back. But what was more disappointing was the ice creams itself! My small single cup scoop of blackberry ice cream, was so full of sugar I was not able to have more than a few little spoons of it. It was so overwhelmingly sweet you couldnā€™t taste the blackberries at all. And this was the same, my daughter and friend experienced with their choc mint. They claim their sorbets and ice creams are made with ā€˜onlyā€™ fruit. Iā€™m sorry but I did not taste even the slightest tang and freshness of blackberry in my sorbet. It was so painful to have to throw away two ice creams worth $5.50 each, because my friend and I just could not finish it! Maybe the too many medals have gotten in the way of quality and customer service?

Great selection of ice creams, would highly recommend to anyone who has a passion for ice cream/Gelato. My favorite was the Belgian and lavender. Only let down was the service could be a little better, but apart from that was really good.

It is easy to see why Coal Valley Creamery ice cream and gelato is award-winning! There is a great range of flavours, the ice cream is so smooth and creamy, just delightful. They also create and sell a big range of chocolates and sweets. Not to be missed!
