Review Richmond Arms - Richmond

Chris Price (Pricey)
Had brunch here a couple of times and both seated out the back. Would be nice to experience the inside. I ordered the Kyoto scramble which was a nice unique dish that delivered. My partner ordered the chilli scramble and felt there could have been a bit more egg to bread ratio. Overall a good spot on bridge to meet friends for brunch.

5 stars to the decent food, great coffee, friendly staff & comfy environment. The Kyoto Scrambled Eggs is on spot. Bagel is delicious, the chili eggs goes really well along with the rich flavor of bonito flakes. A spacious, delightful place to work on your laptop at the non-peak hours :) It’s worth visiting !

Great combination of flavors! Coffee was great, fast service even though they were busy. The only thing that annoyed me a bit was that We sat in the backyard and there was a strange smell that wasn’t really pleasant while having breakfast. But will recommend it and will come back for sure :)

Probably one of a few cafes that I always return to visit. Food and drinks are always on point and good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Only recommendation I have is to put table numbers so it's easier to pay the bill instead of describing to the cashier where we were sitting and what we ate.

Great experience. A little busy but customers service was red-hot, the chefs did a great job and the coffee was fantastic. Our particular breakfast was great.
Alex Pott
The steak sandwich they make here is stupidly good. Not even lying when I say it's probably the best sammich I have eaten in Melbs. The meat is divine and so tender and whatever magical unicorn dust they sprinkle on the relish is beyond me. Mind blowing. So pumped I found this joint.

Best breakfast waffles ever! They say you eat with your eyes. The meals were a delight to look at, and they were a delight to taste as well. There was nothing boring on my plate. The colours were vibrant and the flavours were fresh and comforting. My husband had a delicious salmon and avocado breakfast bagel. So vibrant. And of course it started with great coffee.

Very popular cafe on Bridge rd in Richmond but I’m missing the hype here especially getting bang for your buck. Had an oat ‘magik’ (yeah had better) and chilli scrambled eggs (yeah had better) so I think I had such high expectations coming here so I was let down , look it wasn’t bad but like I said I’ve had better and staff not the friendliest bunch which makes the experience the way it was.

I decided to grab a take away coffee from this cafe. The service was friendly and happy.

My strong skinny latte was good, the coffee had a nice flavour.

The price was reasonable and I'd happily go back again.

Previous review - 25 April 2018

I'd just been to the Anzac Day service and I was keen for a coffee. Driving down Bridge Road i saw this cafe open before 7am and on a public holiday! Yay! Hahaha

Most cafes weren’t open until 7am today. I was greeted by the most lovely lady who was much more friendly and cheerful than I was at the time lol

My strong skinny latte was perfect, not too hot, and
amazingly good. I sat and I was offered some water which was really nice.

I hope everyone’s Anzac Day starts as well as mine!

Quick, healthy, and a simple brunch place around Richmond. It's a lovely place with a fantastic backyard that's suitable for you to hang out with your friend/friends. My friend is a massive fan of their Acai Bowl, to which I think they have one of the best Acai Bowl around Richmond. The coffee is just alright, but they've got fantastic and polite staff members.

Not sure why they are rating 4.1 stars but I buy 2 coffees each day but I was not aware that the cups were not been filled to the top with milk. I only noticed this when I was watching them make the coffees few days in a row. I know a cup of coffee is getting expensive these days but we are not buying gold here so to fill the cups to the top should not be an issue. All other cafes give us a full cup regardless of what they charge. I don't think it's too much to ask. Having a rating of 4.1 stars don't give anyone the right to rip the consumer off. I gave this review because when I asked why they were not filling the cups to the top I was told that thats their standard. Well it's not good enough.

This cute little spot looks small on the outside but there's a beautiful courtyard out the back. This is where we chose to sit on a sunny morning.
The menu has a decent range and only for the fritters having corn in them, I'd have gone for that dish.
I got the Mediterranean Eggs which is basically scrambled eggs with some tomatoes and spring onion. It came with three slices of toast and was a great portion size!
The coffee was ok, I'd have loved something with a bit stronger bean.
The Wandering Reviewer
Cafe for the church as everytime I come here there seems to a service on. So note that it gets busy.
Came for coffee and cake and were not disappointed. Nice courtyard to sit in the autumnal sun and soak up. Dietaries catered for. Service was pretty good with lovely staff. Takeaway available. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Prams and stroller accessible. Good parking.

Came here with Vinh for brunch on a Sunday. This is a average cafe with a cute courtyard in the back. The service is polite, however you do need to go and order at the front yourself. I ordered the breakfast quesadilla which was good but not great ! Vinh got the BLT which was nice but lacking sauce. Overall this place is good but nothing spectacular in my opinion !
Gorgeous courtyard, lovely helpful staff and great coffee! Thank you for being so welcoming with a high chair and babycino for the little one :)
Really good menu with lots of tasty sounding options. Had the eggs benny which had potential to be very good but the eggs were over cooked so not runny at all which was a bit of a let down. But the muffins and hollandaise was good so if the eggs were cooked well it would have been very foods

After venturing around the Richmond area after a while, I found this nice little cafe and wasn’t disappointed. Yummy food and the juices were very fresh and refreshing 😊

Highly recommend to try their chai latte and dandelion latte as they were very delicious 😋
Food was decent and service was fast. My only minus would be I hope the food (I ordered harvest breakfast) would be a little less oily but overall it was a good meal and I had a good lunch here!
Courtney Bird
I absolutely LOVE their harvest breakfast. I get it every time I go! Always delicious. Limited seating for a bigger group unfortunately. Will definitely be back
Jasmin Lyons
Absolutely loved this little cafe!! It was so cute and the little garden out the back was a lovely place to sit and have a coffee. We ordered a latte, banana bread and a chai latte. The chai latte was the best I’ve ever had and served in the most beautiful mug. The staff were so lovely-the waitress even gave me a new plate because she accidentally spilled a tiny bit of the latte on it. Very nice place and staff!!
Vanessa
This cafe is one of the local favourites. They make delicious coffee, food is served in generous portions and customer service is great. Love the outdoor seating and courtyard at the back as well.
Sophie
Came here as it’s close to home. Nice cafe which also has a courtyard out the back. Enjoyed my meal, the portions are huge so make sure your starving.

Went in for a quick lunch on moving day, food was great and serving sizes were more than generous.

The atmosphere was a little tense and the staff weren’t really as attentive as a cafe staff should be like.

But the only thing that really annoyed me was the fact that you had to get up and order yourself. Nothing worse than interrupting your awesome conversation by getting up one at a time to order your food.

It’s a very small cafe, surely staff are capable of taking the orders of the people inside so it doesn’t cause a clutter in front of the till.
🍀
Sunday 5th November 2017 at 12.30pm.
We opted for the Mediterranean Eggs 🥚 and Corn Fritters 🌽
These are really good dishes. Really tasty and a joy to eat.
The coffee is good quality ☕️
The disappointing thing here is you need to order and pay at the counter prior to getting food and each time you want anything additional.
Dora & Craig
Bad service, there was a female staff giving us very unfriendly face entire time and she was the only one we got.. however the food was impressive. Will go back again if the staff is no longer working there because she ruined ours all the positive feelings!
Nikki
What a delightful little gem! So glad for the horrendous rudeness from ST James up the street so we could stumble on this place.. I had the harvest breakfast with bacon and every mouthful kept me going WOW YUM! Which for me is a massive thing and doesn't always happen, the juices were fresh and tasty, staff brilliant and nothing was too much trouble!
Would I return? YES I would I need another serve if that harvest breakfast !!! Keep up good work!
Gedavids15
Staff were very friendly and food was delicious. Highlight was the cacao latte which was nicer than the generic mocha you'd be served in most cafes. Biggest downturn was the toilet...disgusting. Stains, dust, grime etc etc. No fun when it's the last thing you do before you leave. I'd definitely return again but avoid the WC.
Lisa's Filter
The coffee was nice and the tea strong, other than that we wouldn't go back. The food lacked seasoning and flavor and the corn fritters were just weird. Like they had been made with a sweet pancake batter, they didn't work.
Emilio Rogliano
What a great little cafe! Seasonal menu and their standard menu has plenty of options. Don't let the small front deceive you - there's a fantastic courtyard out back which is good if you have a couple of kids. Porridge was beautiful and great coffee too.
Megan
Love the BLT, the coffee is good. Like the outdoor space out the back. It's my go to brunch spot in Richmond. Would definitely recommend checking this place out
Kady
Came here for breakfast. We were lucky when we walked in it was packed but by the time we got our drinks it was full and heaps of take away orders too. The service was great and efficient.
Our food was great! Mine especial - the quesadillas. My boyfriend raved about the smoothie. My hot chocolate was good but I dislike the use of syrup - might just be my personal taste it shouldn't be used in a hot chocolate.
Would recommend this place.
DiscoKitty
I just had the best breakfast of my year so far at this gorgeous little gem - the rancheros. Absolutely superb flavours and the coffee was excellent too.

The cafe itself has beautiful decor and a cozy vibe, and thankfully, none of the pretension of many other breakfasts joints in Bridge Rd. Can't wait to go back!
Honest Food Lover
A busy little place with a good variety of food on the menu, and decent serves that won't leave you hungry. Relaxed atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff.
Cazz
This is a quaint little cafe that has some lovely healthy food choices. I love the gluten-free & organic focus and the kitchen with its open window to the cafe. Never disappointed with what comes out of there.

Apart from the food, I also come here for the decor...I love it!! It is warm and arty....from the 3 chandeliers and 5 antique mirrors in a beautifully matched colour green hallway to the pressed tin ceiling in the cafe. Even the orange powder room has been well considered (like a cave and the best place to put your makeup on).

Don't expect to engage much with the staff when you are here. They are very pleasant but most (not all) are quieter and are focused more on the job at hand, than engagement.

(A note to management: the LARGE till screen at the counter is such a barrier between your customers and staff at the point of ordering and paying. The staff are fixed on the screen, you can't see their faces and it gives the impression the process is more important than the customer's experience)

If you are looking for something quaint and unique...this cutie is 5/5.

Cute little cafe. Friendly staff. The food was delicious and the coffee was good. Great spot for a weekend brunch. I will go back. Recommend it to you.
Useyourillusion
Honest, hearty, delicious all-day brunch spot. Not likely to appear on your instagram feed but the friendly service can't be faulted. The little courtyard out the back is a happy place to be on a sunny day.
Victoria Cullen
I love this place so friggin much!! It's the first cafe I visit for the best example of Melbourne coffee and brunch soon as I'm back from travelling or have friends visiting. The food is substantial in size, the perfect balance of flavours and the warmed brownie is perfection.
Vittles Romance
I was in the area and thought give this place a try. It was a Sunday morning. Me and my friend sat outside and ordered two coffees. They were awesome. Forgot to find out which blend it was as it was a busy cafe, we were amazed by the fact that two staff members were handling the busy cafe without struggling. We got our eggs benee and brekkie burger. They were good. I really liked this cafe. Highly recommend to try.
Chewynoms
Food is pretty standard. Since it's a winter morning, I've ordered the home brewed tea (green tea with ginger) and my sis ordered soup of the day. Service is good but waiting time for food is pretty long.
LittleMushroom
Ordered a vegetable flatbread and a coffee. Coffee arrived 10 minutes later which was acceptable bcs there were lots of customers in there. But the flatbread which was already made didn't come until I asked 5 minutes later, they completely forgot about it…but staff were very nice and apologized twice, hope they don't do this next time I try their breakfast.

Not a bad cafe. Has a bit of a downtempo vibe, and reminds me of some of the old pubs in Fitzroy before they underwent gentrification. Ample outdoor seating in the courtyard out back, but the decor is a bit worn and haphazard.

Place isn't the cleanest venue I've been in either; a lot of empty tables with used dishes on them, and food scraps on tables and the menus handed over from behind the counter.

This brings up another bugbear of mine - ordering at the counter. While I have no issue with this at cheap lunch places that offer fast service in corporate work areas, in cafes such as this it comes across as a bit rich, especially given that the food isn't cheap.

On to the food - some interesting choices, and certainly tasty enough. Not overly complicated, and pretty heavy handed on the mayonnaise. Some of the menu items look a lot more interesting on paper. Coffee is good, juice is even better.

Would not hurry back, but would have no problem coming here again either. Not a bad venue for whiling away the hours in the courtyard.
Trading Plates
Owners of Richmond’s Café Azul, Jess Hardwick and her younger sister have been restaurateurs since they were practically kids!. “We were 20 and 21 when we started our first café on Bridge Road called Flaunt,” explains Hardwick. “We sold it after three years thinking it was too much work and both pursued other interests but after five years away we missed it.
Putfoodinme_
I came here for the first time over the weekend and was super impressed by the food - in particular the 'Quesadilla Rancheros' (any kind of Mexican breakfast option usually already has my heart). I was slightly less impressed by the service. They brought out one breakfast and after 2 reminders to staff finally brought mine out once my friend had already finished. They also forgot a side order, which was eventually brought to the table again, after I had practically finished eating.
Mattiva
Coffee is real good here and without the pretension you sometimes get in north side cafes. Not only that, but there is a great choice of breakfasts that are not only creative, but value for money with their portion size. Really good cafe with a friendly feel. A personal favourite
Shae Hailey
Fantastic little gem on bridge road, court yard is great for dining out with friends, food is amazing and fresh, the menu makes it hard to choose just one meal and the staff are lovely 👍
Matildanelson80
Great for a lazy weekend breakfast. Lovely courtyard out the back was a great setting for the delicious coffee and breakfast. Was so lovely to sit down with the paper and the very hearty corn fritters. Fresh, tasty and very filling. Staff were great and accommodated all of our needs. Highly recommend for a relaxed weekend breakfast.
Mlbar10
Poor quality, terrible coffee. This place actually serves pies from coles as part of their "organic, homemade" image. Disgusting. The set-up inside is chaotic, with absolutely no room to wait for takeaway, the staff are smug and unhelpful and the coffee is some of the worst I've tasted- bitter, watery and usually burnt.
Nix
One of the best breakfasts we have had. Delightful flavor. Tried the Little Summer Brekky
Laura
My local! Great court yard out the back, amazing fresh jucies....to be honest ive only ever eaten the corn fritters here they are epic so cant bring myself to change my order. Its order at the counter so staff can be a bit relaxed but still friendly and helpful.
Sunny.paradies
Great coffee, awesome staff. I've been going to Cafe Azul for a couple of years now. It's my dependable local, that no matter how busy it is, I always seem to get a really good cup of coffee. The staff are really nice as well and seem to know a lot of people by name. I particularly like the Swedish barista's coffee.
I like ordering at the counter as well, I usually get all paranoid about going to a cafe with table service wondering, 'Have they seen me? Am I turning around too much, seeming rude or impatient? Is this place really table service??'.
The meals never leave you wanting more as well, very big and delicious. I don't usually eat tofu that much but I took what I thought at the time was a gamble on the scramble tofu breakfast and it was so so good! And to try something a bit different from coffee, I have honestly have the best ever chai latte at Cafe Azul.
Jessica Chalinor
Left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Order at the counter? What happened to table service?

I had a mini breakfast here. It was very delicious and they had music playing to my taste but that was about it.

I sat down at a table that happened to be dirty and was hoping one of the two staff members behind the coffee bar would have noticed and wiped it down before my meal came.

After my meal came my table was still very dirty, I jaf to then get up and ask for a cloth so it can be wipped down. i was very polite about as well.

The blonde barista gave me no response, just looked down the whole time with a bitter expression and wipped my table down. I felt like i wasn't allowed to ask her to do her job.

I couldn't help but feel so Um comfortable after and just wanted to bolt out of there.

Not a pleasant experience considering i have heard bad rumours about this cafe and was hesitant to try it out until today.

Won't be returning.

Nice little breakfast hangout. Went here for breakfast this morning and realy enjoyed it .we got coffees which were sublime . To eat we got the California and the Mediterranean eggs which where both as exquisite as each other. staff where friendly and attentive . We Rounded of the breakfast with some great banana bread and delightful pot of green and ginger tea . Definitly will be returning .
The Best Bloody Burgers
...I was very tentative heading to Cafe Azul in Richmond, despite having had a delicious breakfast there in the past. Their Hickory Burger is made up of a ground chuck patty, grilled gypsy ham, aged cheddar, Spanish onion, hickory sauce and avocado- an interesting mix of ingredients. So. much. ham. The ground chuck patty sounded appetising and it was. It was lean but not too dry and you could tell it was very fresh and good quality meat. The gypsy ham had me slightly concerned. While bacon is obviously a staple in a beef burger, the idea of ham seemed a little pretentious/hipster cafe, but it was actually quite tasty.
The Cheeky Skunk
Best Breakfast I have ever had!

Good options on standard menu, unique items on specials menu, serving sizes were generous for prices, coffee was good ( only a touch too hot) busy cafe but has a nice quiet courtyard out the back where our toddler has ample space read his books and play with his toys- friendly staff. Great options for vegetarians and vegans. Will be back
Troy Danger
Just new to the area and was recommended to this cafe by a friend. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. The coffee is of a very high standard and I've brought groups of friends there and it's easy for us all to pay seperately at the counter as opposed to waiting to be served which I like.

Had the Hunters eggs for breakfast and the hamburger with a beer for lunch and they were great.
Jimmy V-Rod.
At the start I found the fact I had to order at the counter wierd. But the coffee is great, the food is exceptional, and it seems like they open at the crack of dawn! All this when some cafés elect to close for weeks over the busiest period... Now if only that lady that runs the place would smile every now and then...
Tina
Good food and good staff! Cafe does not only look good but also makes delicious foods, that come in huge servings might I add! Will definately be back
Kieth Craig
I liked the menu I walked up to the till to order. Then hmmmm. I saw they were making food on the sink.
Personally I prefer my food to be NOT made in sink water.
Everything about this place is nice. But...
I won't be back
V.beatty
Oh so good!. So good. California brekky is delicious! Fritters are absolutely Devine - consistent every time- lovely service. A bit pokey inside but love. Outside is nice.
Lizziecrosby
Dinner last night. A group of us from the local gym enjoyed dinner in the courtyard last night. Excellent food and beverages. The ambience was perfect with the candles blowing in the wind as we chatted with friends and enjoyed some fine wines. One of the desserts was fruit tree. Thanks to the staff at Cafe Azul. We look forward to more coffees and yummy food in the 2015.
Annafrances87
Slow service. I was by myself and had to wait 35 mins for my breakfast, my juice was longer than this. I saw my food sitting on the bench for 5 mins before the waiter bought it over, it was quite cold. I think another staff member on the floor would be helpful as the food is coming out quite quick which is great.
Mrs Mac
Disappointing. Corn cakes looked great but tast very average. So bland and stodgy. Vegetarian burger was also bland and boring. After reading the other reviews I had high expectations but was incredibly disappointed with the bland food. Nice staff though
Marshall Segan
Great coffee friendly people!!. I found this gem courtesy of Urbanspoon when driving through Richmond.

Being a real fuss pot for top coffee I was delighted with my Latte. Great flavor, temperature just right delicious.
MissG
My partner and I went to Cafe Azul over the weekend and were blown away by how AMAZING the food is! I had the corn and feta fritters and my partner had the Californian breakfast and we both loved our meals. I'm a fussy coffee drinker and thought the coffee was great too. Love the vibe in there. Only complaint would be the set up of the ordering counter - it felt like I was in everyone's way as I ordered. Will definitely be back.
Laura
Lovely breakfast spot on Bridge Road. Very nice selection of teas and good service, will definitely be back.

Best Breakfast & Coffee in Richmond. Try the new breakfast menu. The Hunter's breakfast (featured in the photo) is fantastic. The staff are really personable and lovely and the coffee is incredibly good. Also, I love the wall paper and colour of the coffee machine. Hot owners too.
Nick
Best cafe on Bridge Road!. After 15 months of trying out all the cafes on Bridge Rd I have finally discovered Azul and I won't be changing anytime soon! The sisters who run the place are fabulous and the food and coffees are too! Cannot recommend it enough.
LachlanC
A great cafe. Cafe Azul is close & handy but that's not why I go there - I walk past four cafes to get there and the value, good food and v friendly staff make it my cafe of choice. There is a clear difference b/w the longer term staff and the casuals that occasionally makes a difference to the experience but the experienced staff are genuinely friendly and interesting and they really are the icing over on a very good cake.
Random Thoughts
Close the door and check that Haloumi please !!. Had breakfast here for the first time last week, it was early and it was cold, it seemed cosy but the door was kept open for a while which made it very unwelcoming. The staff were friendly and efficient except the Haloumi cheese in my breakfast had 1/2 kilo of salt in it and was not edible.
Carolyn
My local favourite. This is hands down one of my favorite places to get a organic and healthy breaky! The two owners (sister) are beautiful! Great customer service, excellent options for gluten free (the bread is to die for), tasty treats; muffins, vegan slices, rum balls etc. It really does cater for all! You will not be disappointed!
Rsiedle
This is not one of the large impersonal cafes with different staff ever day and absentee owners who take out profits but are never seen. The owners are there, they work there every day and they make sure that the high standards are maintained and patrons are greeted and looked after. The coffee is among the best and, above all, the ambiance is friendly and positive. Rob.
Brett
Great food, great coffee. Having to order and pay at the counter is the only downside, it feels cramped and rushed, instead of having someone on the register the whole time, they could have someone wandering around greeting people and taking their orders. The tables outside could be bigger as well, not very conformable for 4 people

My Favourite Cafe on Bridge Rd. I love this place, beautiful atmosphere (a bit too tight inside) but the courtyard is fantastic. Everything on the menu is delicious - I highly recommend the 'farmers breakfast', and 'smashed avocado'.
Only problem here is some of the waitresses seem a bit cranky and are short with you, however I do understand it's a fast paced cafe and they have things to do, but a smile only takes a moment!
Gabrielle.sharpe
A-mazing. The breakfast was absolutely sensational! Corn fritters were perfect, hash brown was TDF and the coffee was great! Would go back again and again! And again.....

Culinary Orgasm. Dropped in to the New 'Freshened' look Azul Cafe this afternoon. Ordered my favourite Big Breakfast - 'The Farmers Breakfast' complimented with a mug of Flat White -'skinny'...the food, as expected, was presented impeccably and tasted fabulous!!! Love the locally sourced blend of Coffee too...all in all, I still believe Azul sets the standard for Melbourne Cafe Dining, complimented with a relaxed atmosphere and an experienced friendly crew...nice. Bobby.
Chris Booth
Very impressed. I ordered the Californian Breakfast which was one of the best brekkies I've had in a long time. It was a large portion which I struggled to get through. There was a hint of chilli which made it for me. They had a great menu with lots to chose from. Would strongly recommend to anyone.

Smiles & Consistency every week. Twice a week we have breakfast at Azul, the staff are fantastic, always smiling, efficient and have never got an order wrong! Service is prompt which is great when you need to get to work. Coffee is fantastic and the food is good clean eating not grease and sugar laden food.
J
Walked past this cafe hundreds of times before and for some reason never stopped by! Finally had brunch here and it was yumtastic! I had the blt and the bread was super fresh and eggs one of the yummiest in Richmond! Waitresses were friendly and knew many of their customers by name. Will definitely stop by more often now and the cafe was not decked out all hipster-like!

Good spot to visit in Bridge Rd. Great coffee and recommend the Farmers Breakfast. Quality assured if you choose to visit.
Amber Jane
Consistently great food, awesome coffee, friendly service. A favourite on bridge Rd, come here often!
Dave
Visited Azul for brunch today. Nice light filled cafe with great rear courtyard. Menu is diverse and interesting and both our meals were fantastic. They looked great and tasted amazing. Coffee is pretty solid too. Friendly staff and feel to the place. Definitely recommend and we look forward to visiting again!

How does every place in Australia make such good coffee?. Stopped in for a morning flat white at Cafe Azul with my best old mates the day after I landed in Melbourne on a one-way ticket. This is their coffee local. Nothing super-special about the place (except the prices for food -- $16 to $18 for brekky items?!?) But the coffee was amazing. So much crema flavour at the edges of the foam, the liquid part so rich and full with the coffee taste. I don't think I had five cappucinos that were anywhere near this good during the entire four years I lived in Vancouver, British Columbia. This place would have RULED in Canada. And yet it's just a run-of-the-mill coffee operation on an average shopping street in Melbourne. Aussies -- never forget how GREAT you have it for coffee compared to the rest of the world!
Walter J
Ok nothing to rave about. Was expecting better service. Maybe just a bad day. I will give it another go
Min Chuan Chai
Great baked goods and breakfast but AMAZING beverage menu. The ice lemon tea is to die for!
Christian Jeffs
The best service from "smiley girl" and amazing food! Salmon provincial is incredible!
Spoilt For Choice
Amazing food and staff!!!!!. Visited this place last week with my husband...was pleasantly surprised at the amazing quality/presentation of the beef burger and spinach/cheese pie...great coffee and freshly squeezed juices too! The cakes and homemade muffins were too good to ignore so we went halvies on one of those too!...Although only a small place it was packed and staff were very friendly and attentive! Wish this place could move to High Street Prahran...we need places like this here... :-)
Grace
I love this cafe the food always tastes delicious and fresh! Coffee is good as well as there homemade cakes, staff are very friendly!
Hayley Toth
What MAKES this cafe are the staff. The girls are absolutely lovely. As someone who works in hospitality I love friendly staff. They greet regulars and newbies the same way and are so smiley and nice. And their babycinos were a hit with every kid who walked in the door. Very reasonably priced too!
Andy Smith
Simply...awesome. Popped in a few weeks back for a late breakfast and a few coffees. Even though the place was packed the team was remarkably bright and energetic. Very much on the ball even though there was plenty going on around them. Eggs Benny was great with a slight mustard finish on the hollandaise sauce. My short black, easy to drink with a nice finish, whilst my latte was a little on the soft side for me, but was still a great coffee.
Did not realise they had a cool little court yard out the back... great for hiding away if you need a little quite... will hang out there next time.
The food and coffee can be great, as it is at Azul, but the stand out in any cafe should be its people and its service, Azul has hit the nail on the head.
Will be back, will take my friends and even my mother in law... its worth it.
Peter R
Nice food but I am confused as to why the smashed avocado is almost 1.5x the cost of a steak sandwich. $18 for a quarter of an avocado on toast, and you have to go to the counter to order. I suggest table service midweek is a must (i understand weekends are too busy for them to do this though).
Big Softie
Cafe azul. I recently visited this cafe again, found the service to be lovely, but the food lacked the wow factor, the flavors seemed miss matched, and some over powering, like the chilly on the californian breakfast. Fiances eggs were also over done,

Come for the treats, stay for the staff (:. Bridge Road is awash with choice for cafés doing good honest café food and coffees. Two things set Azul aside: 1. Consistently good coffee. 2. Brilliant staff.
Born and bred Richmond - I appreciate the really friendly feel at Azul that is often missing from other places... usually business' are so focused on getting the weekend crowd in and out that they forget about those of us who are still around when everyone else goes home! Great breakfast and lunch choices - something for everyone - and the muffins are delish! Worth checking out, especially if you're looking for something a bit warm and fuzzy too!

Size matters not! Welcome to the best café in Richmond.. This could be another review touting the delicious and diverse menu, along with the unwavering quality coffee of Café Azul in Richmond. And make no mistake: it'd be an accurate review.

However, what sets Azul apart from its peers along the Bridge Rd strip is the quality of its staff, both in hospitality and friendliness. I am a Richmond local of nigh on 8 years, and I've tried many of the cafés that have come and gone during that time. Azul, a family owned and operated business, is one of the few that seems to hold onto its staff, some from its very beginnings. While you may not consider this to be relevant to a customer's perspective, think again. A happy, casual yet cordial line-up of baristas and floor staff, along with a functional, efficient and bustling kitchen, creates a dynamic that makes a customer feel more welcome than just for his coin. There is a reason it can be a brief challenge to get a table on a weekend - people want to spend some time here!

I work from home and can make my own coffee (and usually do, first thing). Nonetheless, each and every day I head off mid-morning, rain hale or shine, and walk past the 11 other cafés that are closer to my house just to get another Azul caffeine fix, or the odd meal which never disappoints, but especially to say hi and have a chat to the wonderful staff who always make the effort to chat despite their increasingly busy workload!

To walk this far each day, I can't quite relate to the lazies complaining in the reviews here about having to get up and order at the counter. For Azul's size, an excessive number of floor staff waiting on your beck and call would be its undoing. Swallow your inflated sense of superiority and head up to the counter to interact with the person preparing your food or drink. If nothing else, you might just do yourself a favour by discovering some of Melbourne's best homemade muffins, flavours of which are on a steady and crowd-pleasing rotation.

In a precinct like Bridge Rd, which is fast becoming a desert of empty shopfronts or generic, unimaginative chains and franchises, Café Azul shines bright like its fancy coffee machine, yet remains modest in its subtle and rapidly growing success. It's a classic example of getting the finer details right without trying to do or be too much, or letting its popularity go to its head.

Vegans and vegetarians will find an especially flexible and accommodating menu. Carnivores like myself can rest assured, though: try one of the burgers for lunch, or grab a side of bacon on your post-hangover breakfast fry-up.

Go here if you've seen enough of the usual fare and want that extra special something from your local.

Amazing Breaky!. Best break on Bridge Rd! I have had to come back again and again because the food is so good. I have tried the corn and feta fritters with chipotle aoli and they are fantastic. Really generous serves and massive flavours. The service is always attentive, but not intrusive. We'll definitely be back!

Crap how you have to pay before you eat...either they don't trust their customers or aren't confident in their product...makes getting a second coffee more effort than it's worth!
Fix it up girls!

Good brunch spot. Ate brunch here twice with my wife. Overall pretty good seasonal menu. I enjoyed the Reuben sandwich a lot, and my wife liked the avocado smash. Also tried the pumpkin French toast but I prefer sweet over savoury. Hot chocolate is rich and warming.

Best coffee in Richmond!. Thanks to all the staff at Cafe Azul, we have eaten at your cafe many times and have never been disappointed! The service is always friendly and genuine! Food is fresh and yummy, you can tell it is made with love....and the coffee is excellent!!
I think a few other cafes in the area should take a leaf out of your book!
Can't wait to return!!!

Cafe Azul = Breakfast Heaven. Cafe Azul is my all time favourite place for breakfast. The ingredients are fresh, the servings are generous, the flavours are always right, the atmosphere is cosy and the staff are lovely. I have to say a big thanks to the chef, Raina, who has gone out of her way to accommodate me every time I've gone there. Being pregnant, she's always catering to my needs. She even surprised me yesterday with my fav dish, when it wasn't on the Autumn menu. I always find myself going back to Azul. Love it.

Needs table service for that kind of price. We go to lots of brunch cafes like Cafe Azul. It's definitely a nice place, good food, good coffee...BUT: it's more expensive than average (most breakfasty things are almost $20) and there's no table service. That means it basically functions like a bakery: you have to go up to the counter, and pay, for every single coffee, meal, pastry etc.

At a standard $14-15 I'd take it. But extra dollars for no service? No deal.
