Review Ang Ang - Ringwood

Mirjana Jesensek
Food was very tasty. My slow cooked beef was soft and not too spicy. Just enough kick in it. Great taste of Malaysian cuisine.

Our first experience with Ang Ang. We have travel to many Malaysian/Singapore restaurants or eating place and so know our taste bud well. The place is beautfully decorated and make you feel you are back in home town (of course over decorated with the lamps above). We ordered char kuay teow aka Fried Kuay Teow. Verdict (***) generous with the prawns and fish cakes. However it lack the strong wok taste and also missing the small fried pork cubes (these add a good taste overall). The fish head bee hoon soup. Verdict (***). The fish meat is generous however the soup lacks the strong evaborated milk taste. So were the food localised for the local? Do try out but prepared to pay a higher $$ for their food.

Food here is nice. The fish fillet soup with noodles is nice. Fried kway tiao was not bad but personally, I preferred the one at Malaya Inn. Nasi lemak was nice, Hainan chicken rice was not really good and authentic. Hor fun was not bad. Overall, food is nice.
David Shapiro
Kway Teow and Spring rolls on Vietnamese salad were great. Scallops were bland and veggies with them were average.

I actually really like this place! Been here twice so far and both times have been a splendid experience. The interior design is truly inviting, it has tall ceilings with wooden posts and furniture to give it a cozy, rustic traditional feel. If you want a casual restaurant with still nice ambience and reasonably priced food, this is the place. The menu is extensive, catering a range of soups, noodles and rice dishes as well as seafood. Both times I very much enjoyed my meal. And most of all, the service is impeccable and absolutely perfect - friendly, lots of smiles, I look forward to returning!

Delicious food, assertive and helpful staff and plenty of gluten free dishes that were divine. Will definitely be visiting again, thank you! 😊

Fast friendly service, very nice wine, food was bargain. Perfect rice, sweat and sour chicken - tasty lunch for round $12. Very good.

It was a terrible experience. I ordered a curry laksa. There was a cockroach in the bowl. No managers and staff explained the situation. They just moved away the food! Overall, I am gonna contact the council to solve this issue.

This place makes a really good Pad Thai! We were a party of five sharing different meals, but I loove a good Pad Thai. Everything else was also delicious, flavours were amazing and I ate more than I could handle. The staff were very attentive, kind and good at explaining the meals, which you don't always get in an asian-food type place.
They've got really tasty vegan options as well, that are anything but boring and flavourless!
I'd happily come back here and bring my friends, it's a really good price range for delicious food and excellent service!

Ps. The decor in the ceiling is fantastic!

delicious food with generous portions. Friendly staff. Easy parking makes it a plus. Definitely will be returning.

Love the vibe in Eastland’s townsquare. Had the beef rendang and it was delicious. Portion was huge too, couldn’t finish it! Husband had the nasi goreng which was also delicious. We will be back

The food here is fantastic and the restaurant has a lovely interior.
AaronN
Some good and some bad here. The entrees were great, with lovely flaky roti bread and nice lobak too. The mains however was a disappointment, with the beef rendang I got being the weakest and most bland one I can remember having in recent times

Ordered Nasi Lemak through Ubereats to my workplace and was very disappointed no cutleries were given. I mean, how was I supposed to eat my meal? Most eatery places would at least provide a spoon.

The nasi lemak was also lacking in many ways. The sambal were really salty and they poured the chicken curry straight onto the rice making it really soggy. To conclude, it is an average dish.

Came here for a quick feed on a very chilly night! The colour and decor of the place is bright and inviting along with its very friendly staff.

What we ordered:
Mai lay curry puffs
Satay Chicken
Cashew veggies w/ chicken
Hainan Chicken

The Mai Lay Curry Puffs were great! With only two on the plate, we wish we had ordered more. The satay chicken was somewhat enjoyable but was sadly dominated by an overflow of peanuts. The Hainan Chicken wasn’t the best, some of the chicken couldn’t be eaten and the dish overall lacked flavour. The Cashew veggies w/ Chicken was a hit. The dish had an equal amount of veggies to chicken and meshed well with the added side of coconut rice!

Went here on a Sunday night. Really impressed. Great decor, friendly service and the food was fresh and delicious. I had “Buddy’s Beef” and the it was so tender and flavoursome I used a spoon to finish every last drop of sauce. We will be back!

I love the interior design of this place. They have quite an extensive menu consisting of South East Asian dishes but we usually go for their hawker items.

Their laksa broth had a complex taste with just the right combination of spices. All the prerequisite trimmings were there including the all important fried eggplant. The pad thai looked bland and colourless but it actually tasted quite good. The rice noodles were fresh, the dish was well seasoned and there was a tiny hint of wok hei.

A pleasant experience was had by all.
Happy Tomato
The restaurant ambience is not too bad. It feels like a modern hawker food stall. The service was not too bad but they can do better. The food was ok but nothing to shout about. Overall, its just an Average Tomato for me.
Jeanette La Fame
Entrees made a very good impression - small portions, snackable and yummy. All four of us ordered different main dishes but the fried kuey tiaw and curry laksa were a little under seasoned and we had to ask for salt but otherwise flavours still there. The tofu came cold in the center 😱 but Ang Ang replaced us with a brand new hot steaming tofu without any hassle.
Coco F
The foods were pretty good. The greeny duck was ok, but the chicken rice and sambal spinach was pretty good. The service could be better (could be because it was very under staff), we were trying to get the staffs attention for a long while and need to really wave hard n said excuse me loudly to get their attention (I hate to act like that in a restaurant, but I was starving & desperate ).

Came here for dinner last night and enjoyed the meal. Started with satay chicken skewers and BBQ pork buns, both were tasty. For main had chicken stir fry and beef rendang with coconut rice and roti. Will go back.

WHAT a find!!!!... DELICIOUS food served mighty fast ✔, friendly staff ✔, decor brilliant ✔.... could not fault this restaurant..... cannot wait to go back!!!

Excellent in every way. On a quiet Tuesday by Eastland standards we wandered in for a Malaysian meal as my friend wanted Malaysian
From the friendly and knowledgable greeting to the fish cakes entree to the main crispy duck and prawns and the fado Vado takeaway everything was delicious and tasty.
We will be back
Justin Lim
Foods are overpriced, the steam rice didn’t even cook probably, waited more than half an hour for the foods, once in my life and never ever come back here again! Not recommended for anyone 👎

Beautifully decorated with Malaysian style mural paintings and friendly service . The fish head noodle soup was top notch ! Hubs enjoyed his sweet and sour chicken with fried rice too. Will be back to try their other dishes :)

what a wonderful evening with amazingly delicious food and great hospitality. the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating to the needs of seating with a baby as well as dietary requirements. ordering an entree and two main meals was very reasonably priced for such decent portions, full of flavour and really tasty.
absolutely cannot wait to return to try more dishes and enjoy a lovely night out for a beautiful overall experience.

Came here for a family occasions. I mean the food is your typical standard Malaysian good. Nothing much more to said. But the staff is very friendly. But I feel little bit crammed when it's pack
Jess.
I’ve had ang ang several times and food is always delicious and staff are friendly and happy to help. I do recommend the curry laksa, hainan chicken rice or the nasi lemak with chicken curry. The only time i didn’t enjoy my meal was when i had the pad thai because it was bland and didn’t taste like the traditional thai version but just stick to the malaysian style offerings and it shouldnt go wrong!

I often come here with my mum and every time we have experienced good service. The food comes quickly and the staff are lovely. It has a nice atmosphere, especially with its gorgeous decor!
Julie MacKay
Very happy with food and service. The food was freshly cooked and piping hot when served. It tasted great and meals were brought out close together (but not quite at once). We enjoyed our meals and would come back again. Water also served and refilled at the table.

Wanting to try a new dining venue at Eastland and in the mood for Malaysian cuisine? You might like to try Ang Ang by Chinta Ria (Eastland Shopping Centre). Chinta Ria has

I seldom comment on zomato, but Ang-Ang's prize-winning 'home-made fish head noodles' & the Thai milk tea are very very very GREAT! MUST TRY!!! The ambience is lovely, the service is nice, and the boss Sam is very welcoming :-) Best Asian/Malaysian Restaurant in Ringwood! Warmest thanks, W. :-)
ExceedMyExpectation
The service is very good, and the owner is very welcoming and funny. The fish cakes are heavily flavoured by lemon grass, the roti canai were topnotch with chicken curry! The mains are very reasonably priced but desserts are expensive for what you get. Overall, I enjoyed dining here!

Modern Asian. Cool interiors with hanging chairs on the ceiling. Ive tried the fish with tamarind sauce, it was very tasty. If you like sweet and sour flavour.

I've not a massive Asian food enthusiast. I mean I eat it, but not all that often. Ang Ang has changed that for me. The curry laksa is the best I've tried, and the steamed pork dumplings are delish!!

We were quickly seated in this busy joint for dinner. I was delighted to say the food came out very quickly. I ordered the special fried rice which had a good mix of prawns and chicken. Overall a solid option, but I found it too oily although the flavour was alright.

It was love at first sight. You wined and dined me and I thought things were really going places... but then you ignored me leaving me feeling like we just wouldn't work out. Sorry Ang Ang it's not me it's you.

I was majorly impressed by the interior design of Ang Ang. The classic oriental door opening in to huge mural walls, light fittings to the sky. Wooden beams and a fab Asian styled bar, BBQ, kitchen area. It felt so warm inside despite the freezing Tuesday night outside. We were in a group of 9 so we're given a large round table by the door. Being the first to arrive we sat down and waited for the others in the group to join us. This is where Ang Ang staff could have taken a drink order off us but declined to.

When the others did arrive we weren't sure if we needed to go up and order or would have our order taken ( there were numbers up near the till) but eventually staff came and took our food orders with drinks as an afterthought. Entree food came out quick and fast but one lady on our table was left without a hers until her main had arrived. They were apologetic. The food was just ok. The curry puffs were very enjoyable and I liked the flavour of the pork and prawn dumplings. The Nasi Lemak with beef rangdang was quite nice but the beef was a little dry even for a dry curry. The coconut rice was lite and puffy and there were plenty of anchovies and peanuts. Overall a good combination on the plate but by no way near the best Nasi Lemak I've tried and I have tried quite a few as its one of my favourite Malaysian dishes.

The removal of our dinner plates was the last we saw of the staff. They really let Ang Ang down at this point. We were all happy talking and catching up and most of us would have probably ordered another drink or two had we been asked or been able to get the attention of staff.

I ended up having to step away from the table and up to the counter to ask for the bill so we would work out what we all owed because the staff were just standing behind the counter looking down (at phones I presume). No bill splits and no Amex. No services after your mains either I assume. Sure it was a quiet Tuesday night and we were in from 7 until just after 9 but the restaurant hours are until 9:30. The staff need to be more proactive is asking if we want anything further. I reckon Ang Ang could have probably been up another $90 worth of drinks at least.

We tried roast duck on rice, cha kue tiaw and fried rice. Nice food, as the chef attempts to somewhat retain the hawkers style food to be authentic while some dishes have been modernised. The staff in this restaurant deserve credit for their service and professionalism. If unsure what to order, hey can recommend dishes to your liking.
Maryke Fry
Very yummy food. We always go back there. The clam shell buns with crispy duck, dumplings and crispy duck with chilli jam is to die for! The staff is also very friendly. Definitely worth it!

This is the best chicken Laksa I've eaten in Melbourne. It was so delicious. All the food was great. New favourite place to go. Service was really good to.
Teranai
Nice simple dinner seated outside on a mildly cool night. We ordered the nasi goreng and seafood curry laksa. Good portions and very tasty. Waiting staff were friendly and prompt. Definitely will be back to try the other items on the menu.

Been here 3 times an absolutely loved it! So many vegan/ vegetarian options compared to the rest of the towns square! Not to mention super affordable
My favourites are the satay tofu, satay roti bread (can you tell I like satay?), the curry puffs, the dumplings, spring rolls, it was all amazing! Never been disappointed here :)

Very glad we tried Ang Ang. It is situated in a nice outside restaurant area at Eastlands Ringwood. Restaurant very full and had a great fun vibe. We had salt and pepper calamari at the recommendation of the diners next to us - it was amazing. Also had a chicken dish which came with a nice amount of vegetables. Very friendly and efficient service.

Mediocre food. Expensive for the tiny portions and unorganised staff. Lovely decor and ambience but won't be back. Unfortunately not feeling 100% well after our meal.

As we continue our “Tour de Town Centre” we come to Ang Ang. Nicely decorated and with friendly staff we were welcomed to our rather smallish table of 4. The menu is vast covering Malaysian, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese.

For us there were a few excellent dishes and a few average ones. Starters of Satay Chicken and Fish Cakes were excellent, with the satay amongst the best I have had in Melbourne. (Flame grilled and an truly outstanding peanut sauce, but would have prefered a bit more sides and some Ketupat). Mains of Fried Kway Teow (Below Average with very little meat, and little flavour), Nasi Goreng (Average with very little spice at all), Kim Kim Prawns (The standout main – perfectly cooked prawns in a delectable spice seasoning --- Try this !!!!!), and Lemongrass Chicken (Below Average - Dry slices of breast fillets with no detectable lemongrass flavour)

We didn’t partake of either of two Asian desert offerings, as Gelati’s across the Town Square were beckoning.

Overall an enjoyable experience, and I suspect there are quite a few other items on the menu that would be as good as the Satay and Prawns were, so worth a try.
Erin Fox
Horrible! Wine glass was way less than 150ml, food was bland and lots of noodle with little meat, the meat that was in the bowl was chewy. Had a better feed at noodle box for 1/3 of the price. Won't be coming back.
Vana
Just OK. Neither good, or bad. As an "Asian" restaurant, they do dishes from cuisines from Vietnamese, to Chinese, to Thai, to Malaysian (jack of all trades, master of none?). However, if you want variety - this is the place to go!I had the Bun noodle salad with spring rolls - the veggies in the salad (some carrot, lettuce) didn't seem very fresh. Taste was eh. My friend had the pad thai and said it didn't really taste like much. Both our meals came out pretty quickly and the staff members were nice enough. The meals were reasonably priced. The decor was absolutely stunning, one of the nicer restaurants I've seen - but at lunch time on a Saturday it was empty. Eventually I will return, ask the chef what they recommend/what their speciality is and update review!

Went to this little gem in Eastland yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and fresh. The service was swift and efficient for lunch time. I love the interior of this place reminds me of places I've been to in Penang. I would well recommend for all types of Asian street food.

One word, Yum. We walked in and got the last seat during the busy period. They served us up a delicious kuay teow at a reasonable price. Will definitely be going back there for a quick meal during shopping.

Food court quality at restaurant prices. Nice decor though.
Nice diner outside Eastland shopping centre. Good buzz with great interior but not so impressed by the food. Initially ordered a vegetarian Nasi Goreng but it came out bland and tasteless so sent it back to the kitchen and ordered some much better tasting noodles! Apart from the initial dish was quite happy with Ang Ang - staff were efficient and friendly.
Bbhood85
Good feed on the cheap, food is similar to food court standard but nicer environment and entertaining wait staff.

Salt and pepper squid had a weird chewy texture to the batter, almost as if it had not spent enough time in the deep frier, pad thai was good and curry chicken nasi le mak had a good fragrant coconut rice.

Wish they had a wider selection of beers.
John Du
Poor excuse for an restaurant charging what they are charging. Food is a confusing mix of everything south East Asian and not one of the 6 dishes we ordered was done well. To be honest everything tasted like cheap frozen Asian food you can get from Asian groceries just reheated. Ridiculously expensive for what it was - definitely would not return or recommend this place to friends.

TL:DR: food was really bad, not worth ANY money. Wait was long and service was bad.

My adventure around Town Square of Eastland continues, and today, we chose to have dinner at Ang Ang, an Asian eatery opened by the people behind Chinta Ria Soul.
Craig Clarke
Served us cold food. I mentioned it to staff and they took it away. Plate of beef returned no better off. Tried to change us for more rice then we had. Staff slow slow slow
Quick lunch via Eastland (again, really like the town square) and had the nasi goreng. Delicious! Well balanced and very moorish! Friendly staff too.
Pradeep Rathod
It is always encouraging when you walk into a full restaurant on a cold wintery Sunday evening. We were not disappointed either with the service or quality of the fare.

The satay chicken skewers offered crisp and light sauce. The beef rendang was standout. Melt in mouth beef spiced just right. Tom Yum soup and fish were routinely good.

Service is friendly, efficient and welcoming.

Worth another visit but not a black booker yet

Melbourne's East Suburbanites must be loving Ringwood's Town Square eatery options, easy parking, and all within skipping distance of each other - pretty much something for everyone. The Lovely Man and I are certainly fans.

Ang Ang by Chinta Ria Soul is decked out really wonderfully, I love the doors at the entrance, and there's so much going on within, on the walls, on the shelves, everywhere you look. We arrived before an early movie, and there were just a couple of other tables at this stage. A friendly waitress seated us, and it was lovely to see water waiting (and cute little stainless steal tumblers) along with our menus.

Quite a few pages of familiar options on the menu, a great selection. I read a review about not getting rice with Hainan chicken, I did notice on the menu there are two options for it and I suspect. The Hainan Chicken; 'Slow poached deboned chicken dressed in light soy sauce and fragrant sesame oil.' and Hainan "chicky" rice: 'Poached chicken served with ginger flavoured rice and home-made garlic chilli sauce.'. Maybe they're catering to the no/low carb customer? Anyway, while I was tempted by the Hainan chicken, there were a few distractions. Number one distraction was an old favourite, the Wonton Soup, what arrived was a lovely clear broth with four golden wontons and plenty of baby bok choi. The aroma was very enticing, the broth delicious.....unfortunately the wontons tasted of boar taint, and I know this doesn't bother everyone (men often seem to be oblivious), I couldn't eat them. Fortunately my son was on the case, and devoured them in record time - pity for me though.

The Lovely Man, taking pity on me, shared some of his Har Gau, which were bursting with beautiful sweet prawn meat - a big thumbs up. While soy sauce was brought to the table with them, the waitress was more than happy to return with some red vinegar which is my preference with these tasty tidbits.

I thought my (chicken) Nasi Lemak was a delicious version of this dish, I thought the little fishies were great and the (possibly house-made) pickle a delight. The other dishes enjoyed by the family were: Char kway teow (considered a good flavour, though compared some versions, a little light on other additions), lemongrass chicken, roti bread with beef rendang (and thanks go to our waitress for pointing this out, rather than the larger version as it was for one of our kids) apparently this is a close second to our local favourite, clam-shell bao with roast duck. Both diners enjoyed this, but one of them did have a couple of duck bones in - not ideal, but hopefully not a regular occurrence.

I loved that one of the waitresses there was so jovial and friendly, treating us like we were friends who'd just never met. The service is fast - how fast? One of our kids suggested the service was 'faster than McDonald's' - and she's not far wrong. Now true, it was early with few customers, but there's no doubt the staff are efficient and eager to please.

I really love the eclectic selection of plates, there are some wonderfully modern colours and shapes and some cutely old-fashioned dishes as well.

Would return, dishes are flavoursome and modestly sized, staff are very friendly, space is endearing.

Went for dinner after a movie one quiet Sunday night. The place was busy without being stupidly so. The service was reasonably fast and we got a table without trouble. The food was good, without being outstanding. The Pad Thai was light but tasty and the crunch from the bean sprouts was a nice contrast. The Beef Rendang was good with the beef being the type that fell part, but from the photos the colour is quite light. Drinks were standard, tea, coconut water and juice but served with the meal and the greens were good.

Overall, it was quite nice and of the restaurants in the Ringwood town square, I thought it was value was reasonable.

Went to Ang Ang for lunch yesterday and was greeted by a lovely and friendly lady who made experience even better. The food was hot, delicious and came out quickly. I only wish I had time to stay and order the pandan crepes for dessert. I will definitely be returning!
N.
Not really worth it.
I wouldn't go anywhere near the pho. The beef was extremely dry and the noodles were incredibly mushy. I'm convinced that the chef mixed up mint with coriander as there was so much that I felt ill after a few mouthfuls. It seems all the meat dishes do not come served with rice or other sides unless you pay another $3. Seems over priced and underwhelming.
Harmony
Had the Chicken Laksa for lunch and it was nice. Good broth, noodles cooked just right, sufficient vegetables and chicken pieces. Everything was great at the right amount! It's a good restaurant to get your Asian food fix within the distance of the new Eastland Town Square.
Jessica Atkins
Friendly, attentive service and delicious food! We had the duck bao, beef rendang, fish Siam and roti and they were all great, and well-priced with generous serves. I'll definitely go back!
CCC
The food here is so delicious! The duck impossibly crispy, well priced, and staff are really friendly. It also is never as busy as the other places at Eastland and you can always get a table!
Peter Wu
Great laksa, with a rich thick broth. The fish cakes had a nice dense consistency. The hainan chicken rice came with good quality chicken, although the rice had a bit too much sauce - better than Papparich (not that that's a benchmark by any measure).
Convivialsins
I haven't eaten at a Cinta Ria since my uni days... anyways will keep this one short...

Nasi Lemak - is good but not the best. But still is one of the better ones I have tried this side of town..

Seafood Laksa - I quite liked, seafood fresh and soup base very yum indeed! not too creamy and not...
Michelle Ha
The service here was good, staff were pretty friendly. The place was really cramped up inside, we found it hard just squishing past multiple people to get to our table. We ordered the fish rice paper rolls and they were horrible - barely any greens and lacking mint leaves. The dipping sauce was also very bland. I ordered the hainan chicken and the chicken was super dry. My partner got the Siam fish and it was fairly decent however it didn't come with rice so we had to order the rice separately ($3). The quality of the food did not justify the price. Would not recommend.
Food Comatose
Lovely friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere with a great set up that can cater for large groups and families. The Autumn specials board outside caught my eye, with great lunch deals at reasonable prices. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and the sago for dessert. Both dishes were tasty but the chicken wasn't the best quality, being a bit dry. Overall, Ang Ang is a good casual lunch stop when you're having a shop at Eastland.
GlutenFreeGirl
A friendly welcome when we arrived and menu looked interesting. Unfortunately we had to leave after we placed our order. Although the menu had quite a few items marked as Gluten Free, after further discussion and a check of the kitchen they were not GF due to contamination with gluten containing oil and cooking methods. This was disappointing as most good restaurants in Melbourne now understand that advertising as 'Gluten Free' means no contamination, suitable for coeliacs.
Gdkf
Impressed by the traditional feel you get upon entering Ang Ang. Lovely menu, great drink selection, the meals were very tasty despite being on the smallish side. The dessert however, in my case Sago, was very bland! Disappointing end to a tasty main!
Frankie Chionh
Had the Hainan chicken rice, the chicken was overcooked, rice was bland & no freshly mashed ginger to go with the dish. Also had the roast duck bun which was quite lovely. The painted murals on wall is lovely too.
Kiffdcosta
Walked in & was instantly greeted and seated by a staff member, food came out within a few minutes and was pretty good. We got 2 mains & 2 entrees for under $40 so it's a good place to go to for good meal before a movie (especially coz of the hoyts upgrade) decor was also really fun & food tasted good. Would feel pretty squished if there was more people in there as the tables are really close together

A really lovely experience. The food was delicious. I had mee goreng which was lovely. Husband had a beef curry which was amazing, sweet but had a real kick to it (if you don't like it hot maybe ask for them to make it milder). The dumplings and chicken skewers are very yummy. It was very busy the night we went but the staff were excellent. Calm, polite and very friendly. Definitely going back and would really recommend it.
Vegan Foodie Boss
So today we decided to try Ang Ang. What a disappointment. I ordered the Gado Gado, which I have had at least 100 times before from other venues overseas and locally. But this has to take the cake as the WORST I've ever been served.
A blob of steamed bean sprouts and a few bits of over cooked zucchini smothered in satay sauce. Actually gross. And nothing like traditional Gado Gado.
Sadly, we won't be returning here!

Melbourne Book Girl
Slightly cramped and dark in this restaurant with uncomfortable chairs, but the smells coming from the kitchen were amazing.
Melbourne Book Guy and I ordered chicken satay as an entree, beef rendang and garlic scallops. Every single dish was tasty and not heavy or oily like a lot of Malaysian/Thai food can be. I peeked at my neighbour's pad thai after she had finished the entire meal, and it didn't have the usual pool of oil at the bottom of the plate, so that's what I'm ordering the next time I go there!
Z. Jackson
Eaten here a few times now and I've yet to have a bad experience. Service is great and the staff are friendly and fun. The wait staff seem to have a good understanding of the dishes and can answer almost any question you have.

The food was delicious, and is full of flavour and personality. The King Toh Beef is probably one of my favourites; it's sweet and hearty and crispy. The GG Calamari was very nice and the chilli gave it a nice kick. Oh and that Beef Rendang was sooooo tender! ^_^

My brother's girlfriend said the smell of the restaurant and the food brought her back to Vietnam. The restaurant has a wonderful rustic feeling to it. (Although that door doesn't do a great job to keep the cold out; best to sit up the back on colder days).

The restaurant can also get quite busy during dinner so I recommend going in on a weekday. Or getting in early. For the most part the food does come out relatively quickly though.

Overall, good food for money and good atmosphere. I'm sure I'll eat here again ;)

Worth a visit when checking out the new fancy Eastland. Food was good but a little pricey but I guess that's a given since the rent must be really high.

Fabulous food + excellent service = very happy customers! We were welcomed from the outset. Very timely service. Delicious tasty food. We had dumplings, rice paper rolls fish cakes and fried Kway teow. ($40) All ran like a well oiled machine tonight. And it was quite busy and reasonably priced! We will be back!
So, straight off - Getting your name on the door list was a bit confusing as unlike all the other new places at Eastland - there wasn't anyone at the door getting names and numbers and you had to kind of queue up to get into the venue to get your name on the list ..

20 mins later we landed a table - and the first problem was no space for a pram. The lady offered us a high chair for the Bub and asked that we leave the pram outside the venue or see if we could fold the pram and place under our table. Given we didn't want to leave a pram that could pay for 10 meals at this place outside in the rain on a Friday evening we did the latter. Very inconvenient.
(Guys, Other venues at Eastland - allow a couple of spaces for prams just inside the door ..)

Beers took 30 mins to arrive. :-/ food another 10. All up we'd been waiting around an hour now before we saw the food. In the interim - we see a non stop take away service - um ... If you're a new wanna-be upmarket place with more than hawker street prices - how about attend to in-house customers first? Just sayn'!

Food - Pretty average. (In comparison to say, Kotajaya, Laksa King, Malaysian Kitchen - heck, .. even Penang Inn!)

The Char Kwei Teow - a signature Malaysian dish was pretty insipid. The stir fried long bean with mince was ridiculously salty. The peanut sauce with the chicken satay - very average.

Had higher expectations of this venue .. You'd have thought being part of the Chinta Ria group - they'd have better operations, service and definitely - food.

May give it a try again in a few years.
Tommygangstarr
Ordered the spring rolls, Hainan Chicky rice, sambal green beans and Beef Pho. The spring rolls were nice and crisp, hot on the inside. The chicken from the Hainan chiky rice was dry, almost unedible. The chicken rice-rice was nice though, full of fragrance. The beef pho is a let down. I've had better pho elsewhere. The best dish which stood out was the sambal green beans. The sambal was nice, could have been less sweet and more spicy though. The service and ambience was good. Food overall was a disappointment.

Went there on a Friday night to check out the new Eastland. All the restaurants were full and by chance we found a table here. Ordered satay chichen and duck boa for entree and pad thai and King Tho Beef to share. All were very delicious. 3 persons for under $60 it is quite reasonable. Only shortfall, they ran out of a few items by 7:30, and nice decore but not much space between tables. Will definately retun to try other dishes.

WAY OVERPRICED! We ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice (main) $16.80 and we had to PAY for the chicken rice to go with it - another $3.50. I think this place is too greedy! We have eaten in many other Malaysian restaurants and rice always come with your Hainan Chicken rice meal. The chicken was tender and well cooked though but the chicken rice was quite bland.

We also had the Vietnamese Bun Noodle salad but that was below average. We ordered the bun with the spring rolls but "they didn't have any" but as it was only 1pm (& not busy), I think they never planned to offer any in the first place. Very disappointing. Doubt we will be visiting this place again for a second chance.

The other week my Husband and I decided last minute to visit Ang Ang for dinner. Being at the new Eastland we were worried that we would not be able to find a seat but were happy when we were immediately shown to a table (One of the last ones). The waitress brought us some water and asked us if we would like to order a drink or just stick with water. I thought that was really nice as we did not feel pressured and stuck with water.

My partner and I ordered the laksa, gg's calamari and the beef rendang. All of these dishes were delicious. This is by FAR the best Asian (Malay, info, Chinese, Viet) we have had in Ringwood and is exactly the kind of thing the 'new' Ringwood citizen needs.

Next time we're after a laksa fix we won't need to drive across Melbourne to Laksa King, the laksa was a reasonable size and cost ($13.80) and hit the spot! The calamari was cooked perfectly, lightly battered it had a nice texture - slightly crunchy on the outside tender on the inside.

Having lived in Indonesia I have high expectations for beef rendang. The serving was reasonable, the meat was in big tender pieces and the sauce was a good consistency. The only thing I would say is it could have been a little spicier for my tastes. Having said this Flora, our hostess let us know that they can customize the spicyness of the dishes.

Speaking of Flora, she's a real tripper - definitely worth seeking her out if your up for some table side banter.

Was impressed by the deco and was even more impressed by the selection of asian food.

Tried the crispy duck and will definitely go back for the same dish again.

Yummy!
