Review Jimmy Grants - Ringwood

Y Grant
Eastland has everything you could need. Big w kmart, coles, woollies, chemists, myer, David Jones, so many cafes, kids play spaces, book stores, anything you need. It's right across the rd from ringwood train station, right across from Costco and chemist warehouse, so many great restaurants and it's huge and lots of parking, the parking costs after 3 hours, just pay as you leave at the machines at exits.. There are toilets, with great parents rooms with little toilets but there definitely could be more toilets. Town square is great, hunky dory and pacos tacos are my favourites.. but toilets up there are shared and hidden around the corner.. I can't think of anything else right now. So that's it. Oh the hotel above it, is a great stay too.

A clean and modern shopping centre comparable to those at the CBD area. There are hmmm.. 1 or maybe 2 supermarkets and departmental stores. A good place to walk, window shop, eat and relax. There is a food court that serve many kinds of mouth-watering food but we ended up eating burgers at Grilled (pls see my review at Grilled for details :).
Ben Sturgess
It’s a mall with lots of shops. I have been there at super busy times and it is mostly a nice experience. I find the food hall to be a bit acoustically hellish so I avoid that. The restaurants up at street level are better

I understand that Eastland has come quite far in the last few years. I never visited before the renovations/upgrades, but having visited a handful of times over the last few years, I think it's a really nice shopping centre. Not too large as to be overwhelming, but big enough to be worth visiting if you don't know exactly what you're after. The cinemas and restaurants upstairs are great, and so is the area outside on the way to the train station. Plenty of parking as well.
Mel McMillan
A beautiful Shopping Centre that has such a large variety of shops to choose from. It’s a really nice environment for a pleasant day of Shopping. Plenty to see and also has a large food eating area. If you are tired of your old un renovated Centre give this place a try as it is also close to Costco for your fresh food shopping. Possibly one of the nicest Centres in Melbourne as it feels open and easy to shop without having to walk a long way.
Perry Byrnes
Looks bright and spacious and in the same styling as a lot of shipping centres these days. Information points everywhere and lots of different shops. I can see it meeting a lot of needs across the board, so you should be able to find what you need. While at an information touchscreen, I was approached by 4 staff members asking what I was looking for. While they were friendly and knew where the stores I wanted were located, it was a tad intimidating to be surrounded by staff like that while one is not looking.
Nikhil Dalal
This one is better than Glen as it is relatively less crowded and has a good variety of shopping outlets. Even the food court has many options but there's always a struggle to find a seating place in the food court. Parking is a bit of a challenge during peak hours. Few of the restaurants areas are really classy.
Peter Murray
For me, this is the shopping centre to visit for all your needs in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It's only competition would be Knox City which is undergoing renovations at the moment. One thing to be aware of when heading to Eastland, is the 3-hour limit on free parking. For most people this won't be a problem but if you stay for a meal or a social over a coffee, you'll need to keep an eye on the clock.

The chicken and the lamb are beautiful - tender and full of flavour. I love the grain salad, the textures and flavours just work so well together. The chips are great too.

Came to pick up souvas from Jimmy Grants - as my first time experience. Even after driving 20 minutes back to my destination to eat, it was still so fresh and absolutely tasty!
Only thing I would want more was the serve to be bigger!
Definitely be going back for more!
Jesse (The Ghost)
Sam and I use to work together building wood fired ovens and I got made redundant whilst he was on holidays so when he came back I was gone. Had lunch here on Friday.
Ross Balassone
Take away. Asked for pork & lamb Med Diet and received lamb only! Slow service not too many people there either.
Disappointed In slow service kitchen needs a hurry up

Boring, expensive and boring food. The serving is small, the taste of the meat was good but nothing exciting. The bread tasted manufactured, so they don’t taste as fluffy. Service was a bit trying too hard to be personalised.
Split The Bill
I got the 2am lamb souva. It was on the pricey size for a tiny souva but my friend really wanted to eat here. Taste good but lucky we also ordered the chips and dip to fill me up.
Alan Lee
Great souvlaki and GF pita. Chicken salt chips were a little bit over salted but still nice. Staff were friendly.
Will go again. When need that hit.
Funny it was late and had to get the 2am special.
Vivian
3.5

We came here for a break after shopping for a quick meal . The meat platter was pretty good , generous with the portion of meat and chip ratio / salad

Our meat unfortunately was a bit dry , I would probably come back to try their souvlakis as I usually love them
FOODLOVER
Ate here one Monday night. Service and atmosphere both okay. I ordered the Green green which was wombok, brown rice, mushroom, pesto with nuts and seeds. Although not disaster, it was quite underwhelming and lacking any real flavour. Portion sizes are appalling with the “full” size chips and salads being ridiculously bad value. Overall the food is okay but there are much better places to eat around eastland, would not recommend or return.

Went out for a chilled night with a mate, and it’s the first time I’d eaten at Jimmy Grants, we decided to order the mixed platter for 2 with feta chips and Greek salad, both the lamb and chicken were soft and very tasty and I’d happily eat here again.
DazP70
It's a little like a Greek McDonalds, which in theory could work, but the food always feels light on, dry and uninteresting, when it should be irresistable.
Anh Nguyen
Totally underwhelming.

The grain salad was nowhere near as good as it used be, with no zing or crunch at all.

The best part was the pita bread and the fact that we were full after. Even for fast food standard this was disappointing.
The Critical Barista
I’m normally a kebab girl, and jimmy grants was my first non-fish and chip shop souvlaki since I was sorely disappointed at 12 & traded up to kebabing it. But I have to say, I’m impressed. Wasn’t a fan of the menu, chips and sauce and meat inside pita bread seemed too fatty; but the nice lady let me build my own with lamb, tzatsiki and coleslaw. The bread was sooooooo soft and warm like a baby’s bottom. Meat was tender AF and coleslaw was NOT ALL CABBAGE AND MAYO but dressed lightly in an oil of some kind. Made for a messy, tasty, enjoyable, emotionally stimulating rollercoaster of eating.

Thankyou jimmy grants for providing me with an awesome redefining souv experience! I’ll be back 👏 👏 👏
Descartesmuse
The food is simply amazing. The lamb is worth some sort of felony to obtain. Whilst the sizes dont look large they are definitely enough. A great lunch venue.

i ordered the slow roasted lamb shoulder and feta fries. The lamb was tender and succulent. The feta fries was an interesting combination but a tasty one. Overall i really enjoyed the food here.
TimInMelb
We have been here about 10 times in the last year or so and have taken interstate visitors here. the food is fresh, very tasty and well presented. the staff are usually friendly, though sometimes a bit new and inexperienced, but usually offer colouring sheets and pencils for the kids. Our only gripe is either the food portions seem to have shrunk or the prices have gone up, or both - not sure which, but it feels like it's not as great value as it used to be. Apart from this, I would have given it 4 stars.
Clarissa Whitehead
Although Jimmy Grants can boast more flavoursome souvlakis compared to most take out diners, the small servings are quite overpriced. Luckily we didn’t have to pay when we tried out the Eastland branch, since our order was lost and we experienced a very frustrating hour wait for our food (making for a very hangry girl right here).
I might venture in again for a (hopefully quicker) speedy meal, but Jimmy Grants isn’t anything overly special.
Warwick
Very underwhelming.

‘Almighty’ sized Souva’s were far from impressive, only slightly bigger than the ‘Original’
Service is better in any food court. We could have ordered more drinks, we waited too long for anyone to come and take our dessert orders, so we went next door and spent another $100.
Big fan of Masterchef, love George’s other Restaurants, but won’t be going back to Jimmy Grants.
Iswari Thirumurthy
I enjoyed eating here. The food is reasonably priced and served quickly. It value for money for what we got. The meat was juicy and tender. Only critic would be the seats are kind of cramped up.

The worst, umm, 'Greek', I've ever had! A big block of overcooked and tasteless lamb for gyros is unacceptable. Worse yet, cold chips and a limp Greek salad. Service was terrible to say the least... stood waiting for a table, and took 15 minutes to even be acknowledged by a staff member. Then, they forget our order and we're waiting 30 minutes for it!!! Needless to say, won't be going back...
Aimee
We Went to this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday night. We had no trouble getting a table and were seated quickly. A waitress took our order promptly, we then however waited 15-20 minutes for our glass's of wine and had to get up and find our own water and glasses. After another 20 min (and almost finishing our drinks) a waitress bought one of our sides (chips) to the table. We finished the chips and then waited another 15 minutes for our souvlaki's to come. Our second side (a salad) arrived as we were finishing our souvlaki's. Overall service was poor and the waitress did not check on us again after taking our initial order . Food was great but poor service let this place down!
TonkleChicken
Pretty good, but somewhat pricey. Having said that the food here is definitely different in a very good way. Slow cooked lamb replaces the traditional gyros lamb in the souvlaki's. Chips are served with feta and rosemary.

My souvlaki was nice, but I I have to admit the chips inside the roll were not something I liked at all. Taking out the chips and replacing with the fabulous grain salad lifted the meal to another level.

We finished off with cinnamon and chocolate Donuts which were sublime.
LiamzlEats
Have to say expectations were lower given the reviews circulating on Zomato but the dishes were flavoursome and filling. Not somewhere I imagine I would frequent but for an experience it was a positive one. The donuts for dessert are a strong recommendation. Salads are the opposite and I would were the weakest part of the experience. Overall a solid dining experience.

Don't even bother. Food was a rip-off. Got a share platter for 2 for $40. Certainly isn't worth that much when they used 2 small chicken thigh fillets (cheap meat to begin with), a piece of lamb smaller than your fist that was overcooked, we struggled to even cut through it as we had to split it and then some coleslaw and chips. All together it made up a small serve on both our plates. We were still hungry at the end.

Terrible service with waitresses talking to each other and clearing tables, ignoring us and another table waiting to order and we both had to call them over. Our table, the light above it was out and on a freezing night we were sat directly under the air con. So we couldn't read the menu and were freezing, I asked to be moved. We also weren't checked on if the food was ok and our plates weren't cleared as we sat and talked for over 30 minutes after finishing. Place wasn't busy, they're either just lazy or very poorly trained.

Dirty plates and glasses sat on empty tables for a long time too, so seemed convenient that they only cleared tables when people actually wanted to order. Waitress didn't know the food either. We asked what one of the sauces was and she said "I don't know I think it's a bit fishy. I don't like fish." So that sounded horrible. The organic drink thing is a little annoying too. Good as an option, but not the ONLY option. You're much better off going to Greek restaurants in Oakleigh, cheaper, made from scratch, amazing quality and bigger serves. Not sure if George runs these or they are franchises, but he has lost our respect with this very poorly run establishment and below average food.

Let's show some love , came in today and really enjoyed what we ate . The service was good , customer service with a smile .
I just need to say I don't enjoy reading the last review, I don't think the staff would try and ignore customers and taking a swipe at George is pretty sad after everything one person has done so some much for the food culture in melbourne.
Great service today and tasty souvo.
Jesse
Shocking. I'm unable to review the food as the appalling excuse for "customer service" ensured that we walked out before we would've been attended to. We were not greeted, had to seat ourselves and get our own menus. We were not approached by any of the five floor staff who were seemingly too interested in chatting amongst themselves to pay attention to customers trying to flag them down. After sitting, patiently waiting and then being ignored by the staff, we walked out. Happily found elsewhere to eat and let me tell you - being greeted by staff really goes a long way. Maybe George should start paying his staff to be a little nicer and attentive.. Oh wait.
MissBollywood4eva
Amazing food, good service & comfortable seating. What more is needed 💁 Been here quite a few times and everytime has received fast and friendly service. The souvas are delicious with soft bread and hot crunchy chips as a side. Have tasted different food items and am always pleasantly surprised how tasty they are. Definitely a place to try if you want a break from all the shopping!

Went for a late dinner, the place wasn't all that busy, however, I had to wait 30 mins for my meal. Unfortunately, the meal wasn't worth the wait, the souvlaki was dry and lacked seasoning.
Cynthia Giang
Came out at an odd time, so the place wasn't too busy. Food came out quickly and they were delicious. Chips were a definite winner! Staff were gracious which is always appreciated
Vanders J
What a shame! Started out so well but has gone down hill so badly that its actually really gross. Service is poor. The GF souva is smaller than a kids and more expensive than a regular.the GF bread is actually foul snd completely inedible.
Kady
I love jimmy's!
The meat in the souvo was a bit crunchy and hard- seemed old to me.
As for the rest of our meal it was as good as any other outlet. The lady that was taking orders and attending to the tables was fantastic!
Angela L Knez
Great food but expensive for what you are getting. My husband asked for extra meat and it was an extra $12. When we questioned the price the staff (4 staff) were talking behind our backs. We felt very awkward and felt like we couldn't wait to leave. I rate 2.5 stars for the tasty food

Went out to eastlands today for the festival. Decided to eat at Jimmy Grants as we always have a good experience at Emporium. However they are poles apart. The Papadopulous here has no sauce, meat dry, no parsley. It took 40 mins for two soulvakis to come out. Both were warm and the pork special just wasn't worth it. I feel the Emporium team needs to come down and show them about service, speed and preparation.

I was feeling a bit peckish this afternoon whilst I was shopping 🛒 and I needed some energy so I could think about what to buy my friend for her birthday. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was an unpleasant greasy smell, I probably should've left. I went here looking for a mini souva, so I ordered the kids lamb one. When I got my souva the wrap was too hot to handle and the lamb was warm. I tried some of the lamb while I was waiting for the wrap to cool down. I liked the soft texture of the lamb and mine didn't have too much fat but the flavour was meh. It tasted like the lamb had a little bit of premade seasoning that you buy from the supermarket. When I ate the souva I was channeling Manu from My Kitchen Rules and thinking "Where is the sauce?" Yes they did have Sriracha but I don't think that's appropriate for a Greek souva, I guess it was my bad for assuming that they'd put garlic sauce in a souva. The staff here were friendly enough. It was a bit awkward when I was leaving I was trying to get out the side door thinking it was the main door, they should either let people through that door or get rid of it altogether. I always wanted to try Jimmy Grants for lunch but based on my kids souva I'm not sure.
Allison Montgomery
Price has gone up and quality has gone down. Chips were ok but the souvas were disgusting. Sloppy tastless and overpriced. Should have gone to greekery in balwyn. Will not be returning anytime soon. Lift your game George.
Travis29
$14 super size souvlaki is average size at best. Souvlaki contains meat and hot chips inside it. No salad. Very disappointing. Overpriced and ordinary food.
Bon Appetempt
Absolutely divine and delicious food
The salads are super fresh and inspiring to go home and eat healthy as a result
The lamb completely falls apart and is moist and tender as Greek meat should be
Service is good
Was a changeover menu day so a little hectic but the staff explained and were apologetic however it was not disruptive at all
Well done

I loved the atmosphere and design of Jimmy Grants at Eastand. It was nice indoors and pretty outdoors with the flower garden. I enjoyed the friendly service too. You do need to order and pay upfront but the staff are quite friendly and still sit you down themselves. I tried their souvlaki (the bonegilla) with half lamb, half chicken and I was dissapointed at the lack of flavour. There also wasn't parsley in it like it's been advertised in the menu. I thought the mustard aioli would come out strong but there was a very small amount added. The self serve siracha was a good addition but I was dissapointed with the minimal mustard seasoning. It was also very oily and even dripped with oil. The onion was yummy but again very small amount of it. Food wise it wasn't the best and I'd rather eat souvlaki from a local shop where it's more generous foe the price and actually much less oily yet more flavoursome because they add more sauce and veg. This meal mostly tasted like oily meat :( I'm just glad the service was really friendly!
Hilda Lee
Greek style fast food - all the food were very tasty but quite salty and full of fat. The salads here are also quite nice - so there's a healthier option for those who don't want to go for the chips and meat. I couldn't bring myself to give chips and meat a miss though. The chips were crispy and well flavored, but too salty. The meat was about 1/3 fat, which meant there was about 1/3 of the chunk of meat we didn't eat. The dip was good too, definitely more than your average supermarket dip. Prices were more than your average fast food joint though.

Service was pleasant but as it's run like a fast food place everything was mostly self serve. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely be back for the salad, and perhaps the chips and meat occasionally!
Foodandwinefan
what a debarcle! completely forgot our drinks order so it came after the food, 2 incorrect food orders came to our table before the right one finally arrived, and the tiny serve of deep fried saganaki was laughable. never again
Ashley Matthews
Been here quite a few times & really enjoy it. Casual greek style dining. Their slow roasted lamb shoulder is so absolutely amazing, just melts in your mouth. Delicious dips and love their garlic, feta chips too. Would love to see a better drinks selection.
Nick Dicks
Love the fitzroy shop. Food THERE is amazing so i was expecting nothing less at the branch store in Ringwood. Biggest waste of time and money visiting this store. We sat through Oily soggy chips with mini size portions of what we are used to eating in fitzroy. Even the emporium stall hasnt managed to mess their winning formula up. Ringwood store you must be the exception and you suck ass!
Ross
Went there and had the lamb share platter, the lamb was beautifully cooked but had no seasoning (what does George always say...season, season, season). The platter itself was very disappointing with a small amount of dip, 1 pita bread chopped into 6 pieces and a very small salad. Wouldn't bother again, there are much better Greek restaurants.

My love affair with Jimmy Grants continues, and today, we’re at one of its newer locations at Eastland. Instead of the souva, I went for the Med Diet, because I wanted to finally try the grain salad, but couldn’t commit to just the salad, I know I know, #firstworldproblems. Anyway, onto the food. The lamb was tender and fell apart at the light prick of my fork, and compared to the souva, it is a lot more simple in flavour, since there is little embellishment. Being a lamb lover, this was right up my alley. If you do find the meatiness of the lamb on the heavy side, then the cooling tzatziki on the side will be your best friend. I can completely understand why people rave about the grain salad, although deceptively uncomplicated, the amount of grains, nuts and herbs meant that the salad was full of both flavour and texture. Although I can’t see myself having this as a full meal, it was the perfect side in this case.
Andy's Fancy
Big expectations for George Colombaris's casual diner. Had the souvlaki a with large fries. Fries were very good but the souvlaki were pretty small and not a lot of meat. Kalimera in Oakleigh way way better.
Bob Sharon
Good all around food but kind of take awayish. Service is excellent as is the ambiance. Great for summer with lots of outdoor seating. GreT for after work meetup in the warm. Worth a good feed.

I have mixed feelings about our lunch at Jimmy Grants. We each had the lunch special ($17.50 per head) which consisted of a souvi, side of chips and a soft drink. The souvi was small but tasty, the chips were cold but well disguised with crumbled fetta. I'm not a big fan of fetta so I would have preferred the chips without fetta and served hot. The drinks were almost thrown to our table and I would have liked a glass as well. The service was really rushed (the restaurant wasn't busy), the wait staff were a little rude. Everything was whisked away quickly. God forbid we have some dessert! At least I was able to grab my old favorite Jim Jam as I paid the bill on leaving, this was by far the highlight of the meal. Jim Jams are the original and the best! ($4.00 each).
Brian Footscray
Food was decent - had the 'Eat Greek for 2' - lamb fell apart and Chicken was tasty too. However, realistically wouldn't be enough for one decent eater, let alone 2. Nowhere near enough meat. Cannot fault the food but needs to be more generous with serving size for the $35 price. Better off going to Oakleigh for twice as much decent food for the price.
Kat
Jimmy Grants is a very casual dining experience. It reminds me of one of those old-school burger joints just serving up souvlakis rather than burgers.

I dined out with three of my close friends a few months ago, with two of them sharing the Eat Like A Greek Meal for 2, and myself ordering a Bonegilla Souvlaki. The flavours were definitely present and the staff were great in finding us a table despite the fact that they were incredibly busy on the night we went. I guess the main reason for my 3 star review was the fact that it was nothing overly spectacular. Just an affordable night out with a few friends over some better than your average souvlakis with a side of chips.

It's no Greek Restaurant sadly, just something similar to Grill'd, casual no-fuss dining.
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
Delicious though snack sized. We love the honey mustard lamb/chicken combo. Perfect when you can't decide! On price it's an expensive snack as other souvlaki places for $12 you could get a lot more.
Caz Melb
It was in the rooftop area of Eastland, opposite the train station. Service was fast, food came really quickly too. But I was a bit disappointed with the quality of food. We had the lamb and chicken souv. Meat was a bit dry, and it was snack size. The water glasses were not clean. Don't think I'd be going back...
Bill
Overpriced..12.50 for a little souvlaki.. Better off going to oakleigh for double the size and the same price.. If this was greece, George would have been chased out of there for his prices and the little return in food!
Vana
I am a lover of Greek food, and after visiting George's other restaurants and loving them, I thought I would give Jimmy Grants a go. Greek food and culture is meant to be about generosity, however this place is a rip off. Servings are small for the price that you pay.
I enjoyed the traditional style lemon lamb and feta fries however saganaki sticks were ordinary.

The souvlakis are very small, which would be fine if they weren't $12 each.

My frappe was the cherry on top of disappointment for me. How can you run a Greek restaurant and not know how to make a frappe?

Anyway, although the flavours are there for some dishes, I don't think it is worth the price you pay. You are probably better off going to a souvlaki shop where you will receive the same flavours and quality of produce, without it damaging your wallet too much.
Steph Siu
Definitely one of my new favourites especially around Ringwood. Their Greek food is very authentic. I have tried a few of the a-la-cartes and sets and would definitely recommend Eat Like A Greek for sharing, it's my favourite. I have had the chicken, beef and lamb with the Eat Like A Greek platter, my favourite was the lamb although others weren't at all bad. The lamb was soft and tender and juicy. You cannot go wrong with this platter. It's a shame though, that they don't accept bookings, they are always packed and I had to wait quite a while every time. Another alternative is buying takeaway during peak hour, they don't take long and quality is just as nice.
Matt
A quick souva for lunch. It was very good. A bit pricey but as advertised and as expected. Service was good. Nice to sit outside one sunny day. Is it better then your local furry kebab van? Dunno. Probably more consistent.
David Food Leasing
DO: Any of the souvas depending on preference but I've always loved the mixed souva. That mustard ailoi though ... I can't even.

DON'T: Want to break the bank, just get the family option. Perfect for the family of four or if you're like me and spoiling the nephews.

TIP: No need for extra chips when they're already in the souvas. Actually who am I kidding, get extra chips. The feta and spices make them one of the best in Melbourne. Desserts aren't bad either. Number 1 uncle right here.
Tim Heng
1st time here. My other experience was a souvlaki at their Emporium stall. We had the "Eat like a Greek" which was a shared plate for 2. Came with chips that had feta and herbs, a beetroot salad, some sort of fish dip, pita bread and lamb. The lamb was nicely cooked and tender. It wasn't like the other Greek restaurants where it's cut in strips for you. It's different and flavoursome but I'm not sure if I prefer it. As a shared plate, there wasn't enough pita bread. Chips were a little soggy, there was no crunch. The fish dip was nice tho the wife said it was too salty. I kind of liked it. Overall, was it worth $35 and would I order it again? Don't think so.

If you are after a light lunch or light dinner this is a good spot. It's a casual and buzzing spot just outside the shopping centre. From the orders on our table, the serves are not generous. Fresh, good flavours but left wanting more. One of our table described it as a fast food takeaway restaurant that offers table service! Staff were inconsistent in their advice about ingredients for several dishes which could be disastrous for a coeliac sufferer.

A great place to go for a lunch feed!

We went here today (Sunday) - the inside tables were fairly full and even a few tables outside were occupied.

The waitress served us promptly and we were seated- the menu was basic but had a good selection of entrees, salads and of course... souvas!

I really liked the ambience of the restaurant- bright and airy, high ceilings with blue and white colour theme throughout the restaurant and the staff's uniforms also reflected this.

The alcohol list was varied however, I was disappointed the cider I ordered was unavailable. The waiter was very apologetic and there were other good alternatives including the Lemon, Lime and Bitters I ended up selecting.

We ordered two of the Nonna Maria's- perfect size for lunch (and I am a big eater) the pita wrap itself was really well cooked- fresh and authentic with a "wood fire oven flavour"- the Nonna Maria has a chicken filling and it was succulent and generous.

The sauce was also delicious and there was plenty of it.

There are napkins and cutlery on table to help yourself too as well as chilli sauce.

Time it took to order and food to come to our table was also reasonable considering I felt it was quite full but we were seated directly opposite the kitchen pass area and the staff were working very efficiently.

Our total bill was $35- for two souvas, beer and a LLB- would return
Notafoodie
Lively place and we were seated quickly. My friends all received their orders relatively quickly but they completely forgot my meal so it had to be chased up. The nonna maria souvlaki wasn't anything particularly special but was quite filling, though not enough as dinner alone.
LindaMelb
If I need to get a quick lunch and keep shopping I grab one of their yummy souvlakis. A drink and a souva will cost you about fifteen bucks. But a good takeaway choice that's quick and easy.
Hannah Mack
I had really high expectations for this place given the hype about it getting built and unfortunately, it didn't quite exceed these expectations.

There is no denying that their food isn't delicious because it is. I love the unique twist on the typical tzaztiki sauce by replacing it with an chipotle aioli sauce. It was very tasty and the meat was cooked perfectly - it was juicy and full of flavour.

The only negative to this place is its price considering the small portion sizes. Although it was a great size for me, it was a very small serving for a male.

I will definitely be back as I enjoyed it & I was considerably full after my souv however, my boyfriend wasn't overall pleased!

On a positive note, the interior is also very funky and it has a very chilled atmosphere!

I've come back since my review listed above. We got the share board- such a great value for money. I left feeling great & enjoyed every bit of it (especially the salads- YUM)!!!

First ever 1/5 I've given.... Ever.

Now I'm not one to bi*#h but planning is everything when you run a restaurant or establishment - actually any business.

I ordered a chicken plate and chips with a gluten free pita, paid my $35 (how exxy is that anyway for one) and sat outside.

Staff came over and informed they'd run out of chicken. Run out? It's lunchtime for goodness sakes.

But they had lamb. Which I hate like poison.

Anyway more chicken was there in around 30-40 minutes but at peak time maybe plan for people actually coming to your restaurant.

As a lover of the brand I go to Richmond 2 times a week and never had the service like here. Not good! But interior looked great - just wish the kitchen could get it together as a few others after left in a huff like me and went next door.
Athena
Average service and food. Honestly very forgettable. Even the usually good Cypriot grain salad was not very good on the day we went for lunch.
Michael
Enjoyed the place for the first time last week with my wife after many attempts, place is always so busy. The food and drinks were excellent, the service was friendly and answered all our questions when we were unsure when ordering our food. Beer was spot on, good mood and vibe. Certainly look forward to returning in the near future.

When the meat just falls off as soon as you stick your fork into it! No words can explain how good it was!! Delicious!! We order the plate to share and it was perfect for two!

28/09/16
Kid's choice for an early lunch today was actually next door at Paco's Taco's, but they weren't open yet, so Jimmy Grants it is. Once again, the fabulous Patris was, well fabulous, it's unbeatable in my book. Two kids had the Lamb Kalamata Kid, and they were pleased.

There are two new options, and both tempted. Pies; a Spanokopita and Wild Weed Pie pair. I would love to know what's in the pie pair, maybe warrigal greens, dandelion, purslane, dill weed? No explanation, but I ordered them anyway. Unfortunately one was not just blonde, but a little under, the pastry in the centre almost gluey. The other was nicely golden. I found the flavour a little underwhelming though. I guess no dill weed, and perhaps, if there are any 'weeds' (surely this is so, as I feel confident George wouldn't advertise it otherwise) there is just a hint of them. I would have loved a bigger, more punchy flavour, a hint of bitter greens, but even with the wedge of lemon I felt underwhelmed. Kids liked it somewhat.

We agreed to share a 'Mr Whippopoulos' that delightfully OTT rich dessert with biscuits, chocolate soft-serve and chocolate coated biscuit sticks. Now, I am no expert in any language other than English, and am happy for staff to correct me if I stuff up....but it's poor form for wait staff to 'correct' my correct pronunciation with her incorrect one! From what I can see, there is only one 'L' in 'Whippopoulos', the word is not 'Whippolopoulos' thanks.

Friendly service as always, clean and shiny, light and bright, and a great vibe - music was great without being too loud.

====================================================================================
I'm so ridiculously predictable here. I just adore the Patris, so every time I suggest I'll have something else, I still have it again. The freshness of the coriander, the super-sweet prawns, I can't dodge them. Even now that they seem to be mass producing their flat bread - I dunno, something's changed, it's just not as good as it was at the start, I still can't go past 'my' Patris. In my defense, the rest of the family are equally predictable with their own faves: The Bonegilla here the Mr Papadopoulos there. Other winners are the sides, the chips with their feta and herbs, and the grain or village salads are a must for me. All the desserts have been yum, but risogalo is a lovely not-too-sweet option, where the kids lust after the Mr Whippopoulos.

Apart from its location. Nothing recommend. The size is small!!!the price is biiiiiiigg!!! Only the location and its decoration attract me... Wrong decision made based on its look...
Hunger Pains
For a casual joint we really enjoyed our meal at jimmy grants. Ordered the platter for 2 with lamb and chicken. Everything was cooked well and tasted yum, the barley salad was surprisingly delicious. Well worth the visit.

Everything tastes great but I just don't feel full enough after eating this. Bump up the serving size and it's perfect! Chips are addictive with great herbs and feta. Lamb gyros is quality.

This Eastland restaurant is completely letting down the brand. I'm a big fan of Jimmy Grants in Fitzroy and Emporium, so when I went up to get some of their feta fries I expected the crispy chips tossed with plenty of feta and herbs.
Firstly the reception I got was cold and the attitude was turned on. Which is totally out of the norm for what I usually get at jimmy grants. While I was waiting for my chips another staff greeted a family and also came across very uninterested. The only staff who seemed happy and interested in customer service was the one who brought me my chips with a nice smile.
I've worked in hospitality for a decent amount of time and I know it isn't hard to give customers a friendly and welcoming experience, and you do not get this here. You feel like you're intruding on their conversations.
The fries came to me with only a little bit of feta in the corner of the box. Absolutely no pride or love in the food.
It's a shame. Try jimmy grants for sure, but never at Eastland, you've got better options here.

Went for lunch on Friday - super busy but this did not deter from good, quick services. Food was fresh, tasty and well presented - will be back

Tried this tonight with my wife. It was quite busy so we sat outside. Ordered drinks (mythos beer and wine was good), dim sims (very nice), saganaki (took forever to come due to a mix up, it was okay but a bit too unconventional), village salad (fresh and zesty) and the lamb and falafel souvas (brilliant!). The souvas were on the small side but the lamb one was delicious! Meat was cooked to perfection. All up, I'd come here again but I'd stick to the souvas (maybe ordering 2 if you've got an appetite)

I've been here three times now. I'm glad I didn't let the first time deter me. I onto ordered the loukomades and a coffee and they were completely raw inside and tough and they made me feel ill. Also need to be served with ice cream or something. But every time the staff have been exceptionally nice.and I've since ordered main meals twice and they were delicious, the chicken is good but it's no comparison to the lamb, it's the softest thing ever. And my partner actually eats the salad there which is a miracle, they are so yum the Hellenic slaw is amazing! Looking forward to coming back again soon. A little pricey, $9 for two small saganaki soldiers but they are delectable.

Sorry, even if its just a "Souvlaki Bar" there are certain expectations.
George C., maybe it's time for you to do a Master Chef review on one of your own places.

Service was friendly, but not very attentive after the order was taken, ok for the place it is I guess. Thanks ladies for looking after us with a friendly smile, appreciated.

Food, disapointing.
Chicken was oily, fatty and grizzly, pita fluffy but oily again, I like my pita dens(isch) and not oily. Enough oil alreayd on the chicken and drisseld on the Tzatziki.
Souva, was ok I was told.
Desert, chocolate baklava soft serve. A bucket of soft serve, totally oversized, grainy texture at first, ok after it warmed up. Baklava?? no baklava in sight. Very Disapointing for someone that loves baklava. Maybe that could be clearer on the menu.

Greek Doughnuts, again a massive portion, to much for dessert, but I like desserts so no complaint there, if it wasn't for the actual doughnuts. The doughnuts, very yeasty, all I could taste was yeast amongst the honey and the nuts, not very enjoyable.

Beer was nice.
Jim and Tonic with something special. Special? A sprig of Lavender flowers. Hmmm..... excellent.

Overall, disapointing experience. Never been to Jimmy Grants and won't be back in a hurry, if at all. Sorry

Have been here a few times. Service has been mixed but food has always been consistent. Went last night. Was pretty busy but after an initial mix up with a group table we had our own outside. Ordered a Homer and a Bonegilla. Both really good and fresh taste. A favourite that continues to deliver.

What horrible service! Clearly under staffed- felt sorry for the waiters. Food was great though. Wouldn't be returning in a hurry to the same outlet
Filled With Food
My friends and I met up at Jimmy Grants for dinner. This was my first time visiting Eastland since the renovations and I was happily surprised to see how nice the outdoor eating area was. Jimmy Grants is located on the corner, closet to the station and it’s a decent sized restaurant. We went around 7pm and it was relatively busy but we didn’t wait long before being seated. The staff were attentive and friendly as expected. We ordered a kebab each and a salad to share. The food took about 20-30 minutes to come out and we were quite hungry by the time it came out. I went for the Bonegilla souvlaki, similar to one of my friends and my other friend ordered the mr papadopoulos. Although the souvlaki’s were quite small, they were juicy and satisfying. The souvlaki was marinated until tender and the soft, toasted bread complemented it like two peas in a pod. For the salad, we ordered the grain salad. It was light, fresh and fragrant. The yoghurt on top added creaminess and blended all the ingredients together. Overall, it is a great place to reunite with friends but in terms of price, the serving size was smaller than expected for the price. Decent flavours but I do prefer going to a kebab truck for a juicy kebab twice the size.

We love this place as a family!! The sharing plates are just the right size and each mouth packs a punch of flavours. The meat is tender and juicy. We also tried the quinoa salad which we thoroughly enjoyed. The herbed chips can do no wrong as well! So glad to hv an outlet close to home!

Very pleased with our experience here. Ordered the 'Eat like a Greek' and struggled to finish it between two. Lamb was tender and flavoursome, chips were crunchy and ancient grain salad was delicious. Would definitely eat again.

The cashier told us the Jim Jams flavours so we chose Hazelnut and Choc (left in photo) as it seemed popular. Took it home and realised it was actually peanut butter. Staff need better training in general as drink bottles were slammed into the table without glasses or straws until we flagged down a waitress to ask.
I Love Food
LOVE this place! I recommend having the Bonegilla (mixture of chicken and lamb in a souva) with the grain salad and then finish off with the rice pudding. Always a tasty night out but always an expensive one too. The containers that you use for your rice pudding - would love it if you could fill them to the top as you charge $8.50 for it and you don't get much in the jar/tub so if you could be a bit more generous that would make me give you a 5/5. Visit quite frequently so look forward to returning again soon.

Definitely not traditional Greek cuisine, but tasty well prepared food, more of a contemporary style, which would suit most People's pallet, Chicken souvlaki fresh tasty with garlic sauce , served with salad and chips. Will be back to try something else

Firstly, the service is fantastic. I've been to Jimmy Grants twice now, and both times the staff have been attentive and happy, a quality that can make such a difference in a dining experience. Both times i've ordered the 'Nonna Maria', a chicken souvlaki, and both times i've been very content. The souvlaki's are such good quality and have fresh ingredients . The chips are also very a nice accompaniment to any meal, crispy chips topped with feta (yum). The restaraunt has an inviting atmosphere and is nicely decorated with a nautical theme. Keep up the good work Jimmy Grants!

Sensational. Surprised this place isn't sitting around the 4 mark, we had such a great meal. Grain salad was awesome, chips are yum and the meat (chicken and lamb) was cooked perfectly and very tender. And seriously-for $35 for a plate of food large enough for two people and a small child, I'm sold! Love the decor too, felt like we were somewhere else entirely. We'll definitely be back, keep up the good work guys!
Hamish
The quality is not comparable with jimmy at Fitzroy. The souvas are fully loaded with chips and there was barely any meat in the wraps. The pitta bread was too oily and smell like burnt. Would never go back.

Quite tasty food and a great location in Ringwood Square. Where the staff were friendly, it was a fair wait when the restaurant was not busy for my take away order. They need to hire more kitchen staff as it seemed to be 2 people doing everything where there were 3 people out front, one of whom stood there and did nothing but looked bored and the other tried to look busy. Serving sizes are insane for the prices too, way too small. For two souvlakis it was $22 and they were the worlds smallest souvlakis so I was left hungry. Overall, poor staff, scam prices, tasty, and close to the hub of Ringwood.

Quick, attentive and friendly service with a menu I wanted to taste everything from! We had the shared greek plate for 2 with the taramasalata, cucumber salad, slow cooked lamb, Feta chips, toasted pita all for $35. It was a perfect portion for 2 people and the lamb was melt in your mouth delicious. I will be visiting again!

Unfortunately this proves that franchises don’t always work.
Fitzroy is definitely the better one. We had cold chips that sat at the warmer for a long time.
Average food not great like Fitzroy.
Desert - Jim Jam should be large
not bite size.
Brungiel
The souvlaki here are really yum, packed full of fresh and authentic ingredients. However, the servings are a little small and overpriced in my opinion. Beverage list is also not so great.

Went there for lunch and first tried to figure out what is was...it wasn't a restaurant, but it wasn't fast food or take away either. It is aptly defined by George as a Souvlaki Bar.

We ordered a chicken from the spit and a mixed "eat like a Greek". Now generally I'm not a big fan of tzatziki, but this version is absolutely delicious. We also had taramosalata, which was beautifully balanced and I could not stop eating. Now I understand that people believe it should be white, but really who cares as long as it makes ur taste buds happy.

I had read about the grain salad and decided to give it a try and could not have been happier that I did. I understand now why it has a cult following.

Now to the important stuff. The Pita so lush and tasty, and the chicken and lamb were perfectly cooked. You didn't even need a knife for the lamb, it just fell apart.

So, if you find yourself in Eastland next time and want some honest, simple food where everything is cooked to perfection, come on in and have some Jimmy Grants!!!

Okay George, I'm convinced and satisfied with your modern twist version of the Greek Souvlaki ..... simple goodness beautifully presented, easy to enjoy by all.

We prefer the "Eat Like Greeks" version rather than single serve like Mr. Papadopoulos, etc. Meats are more juicier, well cooked and much more enjoyable eating them from a plate. It is well priced at $30 for two, a size up would be a welcome addition in my view.

Good and well priced selection of drinks.

We have not been to all Jimmy Grants yet, I'm sure we will in due time we will. Your Fitzroy shop is quite extraordinary, small but has all the right ambiance, combining the vintage elements with modern fittings, don't even mind with the Charcoal briquettes stored in the toilet.

Great design and fitting with the toilet at your Eastland, Ringwood store, the restaurant part is not quite as authentic migrant's venue.

Thank you for venturing and showcasing your culinary heritage for us to enjoy, I must say that I do enjoy these more than your previous ventures; Press Club and St Katherine's (Hellenic Republic now).

Not bad for a different take on a souvlaki. I ordered the lamp souvlaki forget what it's called on the menu. Flavour was different to that of traditional Melbourne souva's, had more a mustard / minty flavour and less garlic than the standard souva's I've had. It made for a nice change and left me feeling ok afterwards, unlike some of the rich souva's that can make your remember them for the rest of the day.

Decor of the place is very nice and relaxing and considering their prices aren't too high it's a nice ambience for the price. My only complaint was the souva was a little too small and chips have to be ordered if you expect to be filled.

Unfortunately, I cannot even give this restaurant a rating, as we weren't able to even try the food. At the Eastland store, the young female greeting customers at the front during the night shift on Friday 15th Jan 2016 took our names down to wait for a table, said that it would be a 10-15 min wait, only for my husband and I to walk out after over 30 mins watching this young female seat people who walked in after us. Waiting is one thing, but seating people who came after you is ANOTHER! Very frustrating!! First in best dressed should be applied. Either that or more competent staff should be employed for busy nights of the week as we were not the only customers this young female did this to.

I was a bit skeptical trying this place with the not so great reviews here and on Tripadvisor - but all in all, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Dined here on Thursday night at 7pm with a friend. We didn't have a reservation but managed to just get in and grab the last table - very lucky! We ordered the share platter which came with lamb/chicken, feta fries, bread, choice of salad and choice of dip. Everything was really tasty and generous portion sizes (we had leftovers!). We also ordered some wine and had the Mr Whippopolous for dessert (which was YUM! - very sweet though).

The bill for the mains, 4 glasses of wine and dessert came to $70 which I thought was great value for money. Service was great, the ladies were very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was buzzing. We left very happy with our experience here and will definitely be returning!!

The issues:

- small portions
- forgot ordered item (salad) but friendly service overall and good vibe
- tasteless saganaki soldiers, nothing like real saganaki taste
- chicken was tender but not enough of it on the plate

Took the family for a meal on Wednesday.
We enjoyed it. Serving sizes are small, but this is traditional the size served in Greece, probably why they are generally slim. I have been to Greece many times since young boy on 1992 and beyond. Chips inside is nothing new, as well as mustard. It's basically as I said a standard Greece souvlaki. In Greece though the cost is 3 euros and a beer is 1 euro. Even before the crisis. Australia is expensive generally, but I believe Jimmy Grants is still a good quality restaurant. At McDonald's you get crap and it costs you the same. I would rather eat the beautiful lamb shoulder and chicken thigh and enjoy the new Ringwood town square with my family then a filthy McDonald store.

My kids loved it and said it was the best restaurant ever! To my surprise the Jimmy dimmy was awesome; like a Greek marriage to a Chinese - and a cute kid was made. Chicken and/or pork and capers inside, yum!

On a side note, Meat Empire in Croydon is also a good, brand new, trendy Greek restaurant and portion size is bit bigger; so slightly better value in my eyes. All in all JG is good and we enjoyed it and will be back many many many times to enjoy the atmosphere and just being able to go somewhere half descent in the outer eastern suburbs is a godsend!! Love it!

Wasn't very happy after coming here, not only was the food small portions for what you pay we also didn't receive one of our wraps we ordered very clearly, all meals came out a different times and my "salad" which was just plain lettuce wasn't very tasty or appealing! Staff were not very attentive, slow with taking orders and didn't pay attention to our table after we ordered. Wouldn't be going back anytime soon!
Chriso
Went to Jimmy Grants(franchise)yesterday for a supposedly great Souva experience.
Was dissapointed by greeting and more so the lamb souva was rather small and tastless,so overpriced at $11.00 for the Souva only.
Kalimera or Meat me souvlakeri both in Oakleigh for traditionak Greek family experience instead of a money grab franchise far outweighs the jg experience :)

Food is just average. Ordered sDips, 2 souvas and a side of chips after waiting 20 mins. 2 mins later waitress comes out asking 3 tables including ours if we were waiting for a side of chips. We said no as a side comes with your main. 5 mins later waitress who to our order comes back to confirm our order and then says those chips were yours. When I said no a side comes with your main, she says food comes out here whenever. Hmmm a side comes with a main!! Food average! Thick chewy pita. Go to pay at counter, quote different order, I say you need a better system, she says we usually bring bill to table. She tries again, quotes half our order, I tell her to add wine and side, lucky I'm honest! Check out your local kebab shop for better food and device
