Review Golden Duck - Ringwood

Edwar Kartio
Came here for yumcha and quite happy with the quality of food. The dishes are cooked and seasoned nicely. The rice paper prawn is a little disappointing due to lack of its sauce. Pretty similar to what you'll get at their parent restaurant - Secret Kitchen. Will definitely come back again to try their duck dish. Food - 8 Service - 8 Vibe - 7 Price - $$

the dim sum was delicious especially the durians puffs and pudding. Sea cucumber bun was something interesting, the skin was so light and fluffy, however would've been better if it was thinner as the proportion of bun to fillings was a bit over, taste wise it was a nice combination of savoury w sweet bun. the beef ribs were tender and rich in flavour, however a tad too salty for my taste. Prawn rice rolls were nice and thin w generous size prawns. Staffs were all very nice and friendly, overall experience was good. Overall we spent $76 for two person.

Of course it would be good because it’s called the Golden Duck. The food was good and the service was great. Staff were helpful even though it was a busy period. Other meals I could see at other tables looked great and I will return to explore more. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Heaps of parking here at Eastland. Takeaway is available.

Golden Duck manages to strike a balance between tradition and modern flavours. Standard yumcha offerings are available on trolleys, something you don't see much anymore, sadly. But if you're hungering for a something new and exotic, do try their fusion yumcha. You won't regret it. Har Gao with truffle? Sure why not.

A good solid Dim Sum and Duck place, nice variety of Dim Sum, all very tasty, quick and efficient service. Often busy so pays to book.

There was a hair in one of the dishes. I wouldn't come here again. It was expensive for the quality. Spent $195 for 7 people. Would have been better without the hair and the pushy staff.

I went here with my partner when they wernt busy. Seated fast with good service. Prices are too much for what you get. Could get the same quality food and service at other places. Biggest issue was, one of our dishes came out with lots of hair in it. Not pleasant. The waiter offered us dessert in compensation, which doesn't really make up for the chefs dropping hair in your food... Also there is a surcharge for any type of card you use, which isn't mentioned until you get your recipt which will be more than you expected. Cashier takes your card out your hand and quickly does pay pass even if you didn't want to, or wanted to pay a different account. Wouldn't go back

A decent Chinese restaurant in the Town Square at Eastland. The dishes are good; we particularly liked the lettuce cup and Peking Duck. Some of the other dishes were slightly too salty for my taste but not too bad. Prices are a little high but OK. We spent $150 for dinner with two adults and three children. We might come back to try their Yum Cha.

After reluctantly coming here due to the various reviews about this place, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and how delicious the food was as well as how friendly the staff was. We tried various dishes a beef with black bean, Sichuan chicken, garlic prawns and Mongolian lamb - all very delicious. Whether they have new management or just an overall improvement, it is worth giving this place a go!

Only 3 people on our table. Our food came out at all odd times and one persons food went cold while waiting for the last meal to come. Staff were nice though...

If you love yum cha and want to escape the long queue at Secret Kitchen in Doncaster Shopping Town then Golden Duck by Secret Kitchen will be your best choice. Abundant dim sum selections from the roaming trolleys and very generous size/portions that will surely hit the spot after a few rounds of yum cha Tetris.

Only yumcha place in eastland shopping mall, service was okay but doncaster secret kitchen is way better. Theirs werent hot enough and there were quite pricey. My favourite was their egg tarts which were soft and buttery

Service is very poor. Unfriendly staff on several occasion. Expensive dinner for what you get. Yum Cha too salty. Definitely looking for another place.

Went for dinner with some friends, service was ok, one waitress was annoyed cause I ordered water as a drink, the other waitress was nice however the food was way way overpriced for what you get, flavor wise average at best and price was way too much

As most other restaurants were full, we stumbled into this place and were welcomed in. I ordered the salted egg yolk chicken ribs as I had a craving that remained unsatisfied. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing dish. There was barely any salted egg yolk on the chicken.

It was my first experience trying out Yum Cha, didn't know what it was at first. But realised when they came to the table and explaining the dishes, that they serve a range of small dishes. Believe me, I wanted to try everything out, as I was excited and confused about what to have. Loved the dim sims, beef spring rolls, calamari (not the looks of it), tuna dim sim and few other things, i've nodded my head to, and loved all of them. <br/>The service was absolutely lovely and very friendly. They would always come around to check on us and made us feel comfortable. I was stuffed with contentment. Will definitely bring my troops here soon.

Utterly disgusted with the level of customer service at Golden Duck (by Secret Kitchen) at Eastland Shopping Mall today. My wife has just told me about her bad experience this afternoon. She was planning to have Yum Cha with her mum and brought along our two young kids with her. As my son has a severe allergy to WHEAT hence we always pack his own gluten-free food to consume for health safety reason. My wife mentioned this to the waitress at the entrance and she said it is fine and escorted them to the table. As they sat down, while the tea being served and my son starting to eat his food, another lady (looks like a restaurant manager) came over and told my wife that outside food is not allowed. She said "It's our policy and other people would have come in with MacDonald as well". And so they got up and left. Honestly, where is the compassion of this "manager" towards young kids with allergy? If you have a "policy" in place, your staff would have not allowed entry in the first place. <br/><br/>(Bear in mind we never had this issue at Doncaster and Glen Waverley joint).<br/><br/>I hope @secretkitchenau will look into this matter with the "lady manager" in charge today 25th May (I wish I know her name). So let me ask you a question…Would you practice a good customer service and have repeated business in future or discriminating your customer to lose the business forever?

Went here for yum cha as had a voucher in the entertainment book. The service was good. Sadly the food was horrible. Ordered a calamari dish which you would think would be made freshly made especially for $14- instead it tasted stale, hard and as it had been re fried and not cooked fresh. Everything else tasted reasonable but it seemed they were serving food which had simply been reheated. Would not recommend this place and was shocked when I received a bill of $65. Considering what we ordered and the quality there is no way I will return.

Just had a worse experience on yum cha!!! The manager was starring at our table at all time making us extremely uncomfortable! <br/>Food was so so, nothing excited! We did feel thirsty after having dim sims:’( maybe too much msg??
Connie
Was disappointment with my lunch today. There was hardly any food that came around and when it did it was the same food that had been circling from before. Defs not as good as the first time I went a year ago

Having been to this restaurant few times and it wasn’t so bad but our recent visit. <br/>We ordered the Peking duck and few other dishes, we assumed the Peking should be come first as usual but it didn’t, the main dishes came and the duck didn’t until we asked two different staff to follow up. Both the waiter and waitress went to the kitchen but didn’t let us know what had happened. At last the duck was served, actually not really served as the waiter just left them at the corner of our table, where the kids were sitting, not even putting them properly and no plate was given to wrap the ducks. <br/>We understand everyone made mistakes but as a service sector, a restaurant, you need to provide service but not only the food. No response no apologies. Needless to say the food wasn’t good, feel so disappointed to their name “ golden duck”!!! We asked for warm water for the kids and what so shocked is, they charged $1.5 each of the warm water!!! We have never expect or been to a restaurant to charge for water, even hot or warm water. We told the cashier for all our dissatisfaction and the response is very indifferent, don’t care at all.

I’m going to start by saying I have never reviewed a restaurant under 3 starts but I was very VERY disappointed with the service and manner of the male restaurant manager or owner. We decided to come for a drink before a movie and when we told him we weren’t ordering food he stated that there is a problem because they have a minimum charge of $15 per person. Nowhere does it state this before entering or ordering at the restaurant. The menu is absolutely ridiculously priced for something that backs on to a shopping centre and from what I can see from the other reviews the food certainly mustn’t be worth the pretentious price tag.

We had the duck , spinach , spicy beef and black truffle fried rice . Friendly service ,clean surrounding ,delicious food . The black truffle fried rice was really nice .

This is the worst ever experience i had in one restaurant, the only 2 persons who said responsible for the service would like argue with customer not providing service. Never go again.

We came with the family for a birthday dinner and we all enjoyed our meals. The staff tended to be hovering in the background which is quite off putting. We were made to feel rushed but there were very few people there. I don’t think writing fake reviews is helpful to a restaurant in any way, but it seems there are quite a few reviews for Golden Duck giving 5 stars and glowing recommendations obviously written by staff or friends.
Akimino
If I can give them ZERO star, I will!!! HORRIBLE, avoid this place! We went there on 15 February 18 for CNY dinner, they had called my husband twice before that day to make sure our pre-ordered dishes can be prepared and cooked early. However we waited for 1.5 hours without anything came to our table! We asked the waitstaffs about 4 times where are our food?? But it seems like no one cares! The manager's attitude was terrible too! He just simple said to us "he will go check" then escaped! WTH!!! If you don't have enough chef, hire more or don't even take the bookings!! It is really unfair to us that we have to wait such a long time without any apologise!!
Kate
I got a fantastic meal here with amazing food (signature coral trout fish,five- spice duck, snow crab with goose pate’ , yum !!!) and excellent service of waiter Michael. Won’t be disappointed. Forget about those negative feedbacks, actually i read their reviews before decided to go, was hesitate, but just let’s try, you never try by yourself, you will never know. Don’t miss out.<br/>Really highly reccomended.<br/>We will be back .

I ordered their signature roasted duck and steamed shanghai pork dumpling a few days ago. The food was absolutely beautiful and their delivery service is very quick! <br/>I'll definitely order again or may try to eat at the restaurant.

We try the seafood dishes ,beautiful recommendation from the staff, the fresh live fish is steamed perfectly , and we also try the signature roast duck , was perfect too, overall, a good night of good , fine foods 👍

5.0 for the service and 3.5 for the food.<br/><br/>Service was really good and the place is clean. Table covers/cloths are changed every single use. Food carts go around often and food are introduced if not familiar. Good experience overall.
Zz Mel
Worst worst worst service ever. Waited one dish for more than 40 mins. They said it’s our fault that we didn’t tell them we were in a hurry. That was so ridiculous . By the way the food was totally disappointed.Never go back again.
Linda
We ordered the Peking Duck and was totally disappointed with it. It’s not authentic Peking Duck but their website raves about it. The duck is very dry and a bit tough. And the pancakes tasted like commercially made ones that are sold frozen in Asian grocery stores. The offer is different to what’s on the website.<br/><br/>Their menu in store is very different to what’s on their website. I was thrown because I had in mind what to order after looking at their website but was told that what I wanted wasn’t offered anymore. <br/>What we ordered was average, nothing to rave about and a bit bland. They gave us a wrong order as well. <br/><br/>They are pricey comparatively so we expected much better. Don’t think we’ll be going back again!!!!<br/>
Concerned Mum
We've been here twice now and each time the yum cha has been quite good. Customers are treated a bit like a commodity so avoid if you don't like feeling rushed. Recommend booking ahead on weekends because the place fills up quickly.
Dolores Preyser
A recent change of management seems to have taken place since last we were here and the quality and service of food has dramatically gone downhill. We ordered a garlic prawn dish which barely had any garlic in it and served in a thick cornflour whitish sauce - awful. Next up a supposed pepper steak dish - No pepper at all -steak in big chunks and sauce appeared to be gravox. Not happy customers at all as the 4 or 5 previous visits the food and service were impeccable and authentically Chinese also a great staff shortage and everybody including manager running around doing everything from service to clearing to desk ??? Will definitely not be back.
Gracia Seger
Found cockroach as I was about to eat, realised it came from the sauce. <br/><br/>the manager didn’t seem apologetic, instead he took my plate and only replaced it 5 mins later (he must of forgotten) and didn’t offer to replace the dish. They didn’t seem very surprised or professional. I just asked for him to throw away the batch of sauce, but then again, how can you be 100% certain they would.

We had a work function and booked the private rooms which could fit 2 tables. Upon arriving, we saw the menus were printed with our colleague name (it was a farewell dinner) which caught us by surprise. The floor manager made sure that everyone's tea were topped up while we waited for others to arrive. He didn't rush us to have the dishes served and only asked us once whether we were ready for dinner (we started at 7pm). We were so impressed by the presentation of the food (colorfully decorated and neatly prepared). The entree dishes was a tray of 4 cold dishes consisting of veggies and meat. We then had the egg curd with prawns, free range chicken with ginger sauce, eggplant with minced meat, Peking duck, steamed fish with soy sauce, deep fried tofu, spinach with goji berries, osmanthus with red bean and matcha dessert, puff pastry with lotus bean paste filling and fruit platter (the oranges and watermelon were so sweet). The food not only looked good but tasted great. Dessert is not overly sweet and tasted light which is also suitable for elderly to eat. The floor manager also changed our plates after the first 2 or 3 course which was really nice. We ended up paying $33 per person (for 23 people) which is really good value. We have had work related function at other Chinese restaurants in the Eastern suburbs and think this is the best out of all. The manager, George had a chat with us after the dinner to make sure that we were happy with their service. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you have a group of people to have dinner with.

OMG!! What has happen to this restaurant. We use to frequent this restaurant but haven't been there for a couple months up until today. I don't know if it's changed ownership or is under new management but it was very disappointing. Half of the Yum Cha we were served was cold and the rest was a very poor comparison to what it used to be. Some of the waitresses wheeling the trollies around couldn't speak or understand English so they couldn't even tell us what the food was. Looks like we are on the hunt for a new Chinese restaurant because we definitely will not be going back here. If I could give it a half point rating that would be generous.
Michael Lewis
My wife and I were absolutely thrilled with our dining experience here. The service was impeccable, and could not fault the staff, who were warm and friendly - even as they got busier during the evening. <br/>We started with fried prawn wantons, with a delicious sweet and sour sauce. She had the beef and black bean, which was akin to eating beefy silk, and I had the Beijing crept duck, which was moist and perfectly cooked, with an accompanying sauce that matched perfectly.<br/>Highly recommended! <br/>Don't worry too much about the negative reviews, as they have a new menu.
Kara Katey
We were a little hesitant after reading other reviews however we absolutely cannot fault this restaurant. The service was wonderful, staff were attentive, prompt and so happy. We had wontons for entree then a duck dish and a beef dish for main and they were by far the best meal we have had in a long time. The duck was perfectly cooked with a lovely accompanying sauce, the beef was so melt in your mouth tender with a great smoky flavour, and above all else is was well priced for the quality we received. I have to amend my meals due to dietary requirements and they were more than happy to do so. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

This place is under new management now. The food and service - both disappointing. The restaurant wasn't full, yet the waitress did not even bring the cart around to our table. Not sure if I'll give it another go.
Munching All Day Long
This is the WORST yum cha experience I've had in Melbourne! We had a table reserved and when we got there they told us they had no table for us because they are busy today?!?! So we had to wait for another 20mins before we get seated!! When we got shoved to a 12 seated table for the 5 of us, we had to wait for another 10mins till one trolley serving food. The food trolley doesn't have the popular dim sum items so we had to make custom order. The dim sum DOES NOT look or taste fresh and you can tell food that they've been reheating all day long! We had to eat it anyway as there's no food available.. We asked for chicken feet and beef balls they said it's all sold out today! I've never been to a yum cha restaurant where they run out those items!! By the time the food arrive we didn't have much time to eat and already they wanted to collect our food while there's food on each plate!! They were also giving us grieves by complaining we're eating for a long time!! This place does not have any customer service and don't go there unless you want to get yelled it! I would give a negative rating if this is available in Zomato!
Susan Yanagi
Honestly if you can give your staff better training that’d be great! They cut this bun into scrap pieces like this! How am I suppose to eat it?! Pretty sure they’ve changed hands, food quality is hugely reduced, staff all changed, I felt extremely thirsty after having a few dim sum... too much msg?
Samantha Teoh
This place use to be a great yum cha place, staff are warmth and friendly, and is always busy in the weekend. However we just found out this weekend that they have changed hand. The food is now so bad and the staff is not as organise or warmth. We waited for a long time and nothing much came out, whatever came out wasn't something of interest and all the yummy dim sum (wasabi prawn rolls, garlic prawn rolls, bake cha siu bun, scallop dumpling etc) no longer in the menu. We ordered three dishes and decided to cut our lost and walked out quickly. It was so devastating to us to lose once a great yum cha place in the neighborhood, still couldn't get over it 😥

Wanted to try this place for entertainment book discount. We had 9 adults and a few kids, booked in advanced for dinner despite it was a Saturday night. We arrived on time, table was at the far end inside the shopping centre, nobody served us any drink or water for a whole 30 mins, we constantly ignored by the staff no matter we waved our arms or raised our voice to call the staff. the staff kept saying only the manager can take order in this restaurant and they only have one manager. This manager was so busy handling other tables complaincomplaints. We found it very ridiculous that this place dare to provide this service while they are calling themselves fine dining. We were Soo disappointed and angry that we left the place before ordering after waiting for 30mins. We went to Kyoto cafe near them at the same market place with empty stomach and anger from golden duck, the Japanese cafe's service was excellent that we found leaving golden duck was such a good decision.

We used to love this place. Good food, good service. We went today again for dinner and realised the whole service team left. The service is now shockingly bad! The manager and wait staffs were absolutely clueless. We were lucky that we had one dish out of five dishes wrong, the order for the table next to us disappeared in thin air. We checked for our order for three times then they realised that the last dish was not even in the system. At the end we just want to leave. The funny part was the order was taken in chinese and their cashier couldn't read Chinese! (Who knows why they have computer system!) I needee to help her to do the calculation or else we will need to wait for someone else to help her. <br/><br/>Not going back!!
Michael Ong
Booked a dinner table for 15 people to celebrate mid autumn festival and pre-ordered 2 Peking ducks. Came in at 7.15pm, the staff gave us NO SERVICE apart from ordering food and drink (and by that I mean they didn't ask us if we wanted any water to start with). Then once we ordered our food, NOBODY came to check on my table if we needed any water. We waited for 1.5 hours for the food whilst the kitchen people were floundering around playing "Duck, Duck, Goose!". When it came to the duck, only one came out (after 1 and a half hours AND which was not even properly prepared). When I asked where my 2nd duck was, they told me that they've run out of the duck and that left me very pissed off. <br/><br/>Then came the some of the other dishes, most of which were bland and not well prepared, and a few of my dishes which I have pre-ordered never came out of the kitchen and to my table. and when the staff members saw that we have finished off some dishes, they did NOT come to ask if they could clear them in order to make room for more dishes or ask if we wanted to order anything else! All 15 of us (including 6 children) left the restaurant feeling hungry and VERY disappointed <br/><br/>Overall dinner experience is a 1* and that's already being very generous. I urge other people to NOT waste their money and time going there if they were looking to go anywhere for dinner.
Mark Gallagher
Very disappointing. Our table was located away from the main restaurant, sitting in a foyer / lobby area under bright fluorescent lights. There is no bathroom, we were told to use the outside public toilets at the other end of Town Square. I was told none of the restaurants in the Square had internal bathrooms, that's simply untrue. Food was ok but expensive, will never go there again.
AllyBelly
Came here for yum Cha with a group of friends. Loved how the dim sims r in square boxes rather than the tradition round ones. Majority of the dishes were good but the chart didn't come around to us with too much variety of dishes that we haven't already ordered on the table.
Anarcv
Had yum cha there recently. Their offerings is not as extensive as other yum cha places and the food was so-so. Wait staff were good. If you don't want the fuss I would try the express food stall inside the shopping centre.
Funky
Spent Fathers day here and it was flat out.<br/>Quickly seated, good quick service, which did fluctuate a bit.<br/>Ordered peking duck wraps for a shared entree but was told it and peking duck was available only for dinners.<br/>Then ordered the duck puffs but they run out.<br/>Was disappointed as me and dad always enjoy duck on Father's Day.<br/>We then saw some duck being wheeled past us for yum cha, and was lucky enough to be given one dish as we were not doing yum cha.<br/>Was yummy.<br/>Cantonese steak was good without being great.<br/>Fried ice cream was disappointing as it was melted.<br/>Service certainly improved once the 1.30pm rush stopped.<br/>Good without being great, and at the inflated prices there are better around.
Food Coma Survivor
Best place to have a giant "yum cha" with the family. Ordered the pork ribs, siew mai, prawn dumplings, chee cheong fun, chicken feet, sea cucumber, custard buns, egg tarts, and my favourite- salted egg custard buns. BUT the WINNER was the Char siew bao, with the sugar crust on top. I have never seen anything like I was living for it. Everything was delicious. Service was efficient, ambiance was comfortable.
Jane Z
Having my dinner there on a Wednesday night with my family. Good start with the dinner, the peking duck was good. But the stir fry fish, eggplant claypot were extremely disappointed. They were salty as hell. I have never taste anything in a restaurant as salty as those. I'm not sure how the chef or cook get trained. The dishes were full of salt/MSG.<br/><br/>Be careful guys before you decide to try!<br/><br/>The female manager didn't do a thing to try to fix it. Thanks for the hot water by the way, i have to lighten the flavor with a bowl of hot water but still leaving the restaurant with half full diahes on the table. Not a good experience with over $100 dollars bill.

Definitely not as good for yum cha as the city and Doncaster Secret Kitchen. We were in the enclosed room, but actually it fits two tables (roughly a dozen people per table) so there's a wall partition in the middle. The problem was that some seats were quite close to this partition and the staff insistently tried to push carts between that very cramped space. We had a lot of carts of food in the first ten-fifteen minutes and a pile up of food. The food tasted good and consistent for Secret Kitchen. Unfortunately a lot of the food was a bit cold or lukewarm, which is pretty disappointing for the start of the session. After this initial rush of dishes, we were barely visited with the carts, as the main restaurant became busy. We could clearly see all the carts and activity on the other side of the door, but it just wasn't coming our way. A couple of dishes we ordered also finally came out after a long time and many inquiries. The service was really lacking - tea not filled often, empty plates not taken away, and staff reaching right across and in front of me to reach the sheet of paper, instead of just taking one step and not having to be in my face as I ate (this happened so many times!). At one point I counted over half a dozen empty plates taken off the Lazy Susan and stacked between us because no one was clearing the table. Overall really disappointed with the service, and food which was almost cold.

UPDATE: April 2019, yum cha service is closed not sure about dinner service<br/> <br/>Came here for yum cha on a weekend nice little place. Service was alright, plenty of staff working on the weekend. Most of the standard yum cha food are available plus some extra specials. We had a chestnut buns which we couldn't find any chestnuts but more like a grain buns, which was still yum. We had truffle prawn dumplings or bad. The major problem with the place is why are the dim sims cold coming out of the trolley????? I can see steam from the trolley but within a few minutes the food were cold. They really need to address this issue.
Melzylee121
We tried out yum cha here for the free ice skating deal. Being a regular at secret kitchen donnie, we expected the same standard of food. However, the steamed dumplings were pretty average, skin was a bit thick. Other dishes were pretty similar but less choice. I anticipate that as business picks up, their variety will increase. Presentation of dishes were beautiful in square bamboo containers. Ambience of restaurant was lovely and staff were attentive and helpful. <br/>Now the cost was ridiculously expensive!! The small dishes were $6.8 (i think) and then it went up by $1 for larger sizes. As much as we enjoyed it, don't think we will return due to the cost.

My partner and I love going to Yum cha. We've been to a lot of Chinese restaurants in the City that serves Yum Cha so we thought we'd give this new local restaurant a go. We didn't have a booking, since it was a Thursday I wasn't worried. When we got there, the restaurant had a lot of people. We went in the main restaurant and the concierge couldn't find a table for two (there was a table for 4) and suggested we sit at the outer tables and led us to a table for four anyway. We were asked if we wanted tea and 3 trolleys of food came straight after. We got the Shrimps dumpling, scallops and a few others. My partner asked for the "football" since he knows its my favorite and the waiter/man in charge of the outer tables was very attentive and went to get it for us. The trolleys came back a few more times and we had pork spareribs then the BBQ pork bun. Everything was good except for the BBQ pork bun. The bun itself was fresh but the BBQ meat had the funny ammonia smell which I thought was odd since that only permeates from fish that's not fresh. I didn't eat that but I also didn't tell the man/waiter which, now thinking back, I should have, For dessert we ordered tofufa and the mango pudding which was nice. I asked for the bill and noticed that they're a lot more expensive than City Yum Cha. It cost a lot more that the usual we pay for the same number of orders and I've been informed by the man/waiter there's surcharge if I pay by card even if it's coming off my savings account via debit card.

Good Chinese food with great service.<br/><br/>We were here on a Thursday night and the place was pretty quiet with just a few table occupied.<br/><br/>We got ourselves a plate of sweet and sour pork to start. The coating was light and crunchy. The pork inside was not the freshest, however the sauce was well made and tasty to compensate for that. (3/5)<br/><br/>We then got the BBQ Duck Korean style which tasted somewhat similar to the sweet and sour pork. The texture was great, the skin was thin enough, and the meat came without any duck odour which was great. We thoroughly enjoyed eating this with some white rice. (3.5/5).<br/><br/>Service was great as the staff was very polite and attentive.

Came for yum cha. Great environment with friendly staff. Food was alright. It was a little bit oily for my liking and felt a bit thirsty afterwards. Looked pretty hygenic. The skin of the dumplings were a bit tough. Prices are average yum cha places. Located in handy Eastland.
Ashley Franken-Rebbechi
Been there twice in the last 2 weeks and absolutely loved it! First time I ordered a banquet which was awesome especially for the price. Second time we tried the duck which lived up to the hype. We had dumplings each time which were delicious too. Will definitely go there again. Keen to try out the yumcha!

Had a great time dining here. The service was friendly and quick; we never had an empty pot of tea for longer than 10 minutes. It had a varied selection of dishes. The century egg porridge was nice and flavorful but I wished there were more pieces of egg in my serving. The braised tripe was flavorful and well cooked, as was the pork meat and truffle dumplings and the Siu mai. The custard bun was really well done. The bun itself was Shaped as a pig, the custard was smooth and well balanced. The xiao long bao was unfortunately cold and did not have the soup that it was known for (I could've just been unlucky). I would definitely come here again.

I went here with friends for yum cha today. As some of you know I haven't had much luck with yum cha lately, especially last time when I had it at Goldleaf Sunshine. We came here because we really wanted to try the duck 🦆 dumplings. The first thing we noticed when walking in is that Golden Duck is much smaller than other yum cha places. We also noticed the staff here are much friendlier than other yum cha places which was a pleasant change. The first things we picked up were these noodles in some hoisin sauce, Chinese broccoli and fried whitebait. This was a great start, it was nice to not be constantly asking for Chinese broccoli which I always have to do at Goldleaf. I'm not normally a huge fan of whitebait but these were delicious, they were nice and crispy and salty (some people might say too salty). The rest of the food we got was hit and miss, we loved the prawns 🍤 in rice paper sheets, my friends liked the spring rolls and we loved the mango pudding. My friends didn't like the sticky rice much but I liked it. One of my friends loves steamed pork buns but his was very disappointing, when he tried to pick it up with chopsticks it completely feel apart and everyone can see it was mostly dough and hardly any filling. We had to ask for the duck dumplings a couple of times and when we finally ate them we realised duck isn't that great in a dumplings, I think we'll stick to pork, seafood and vegetable dumplings. Overall the quality of the food was better than the other yum cha places I've been to lately (I've been mostly going to various Gold Leaf restaurants). When we got the bill it was pretty expensive. If Golden Duck want to change a lot more then their competitors their yum cha needs to be on point, they really need to improve some of their items especially the steamed buns then maybe they'll be more justified in charging these high prices. Because of the price I wouldn't come to Golden Duck regularly but I'll come here if I can't be bothered dealing with rude yum cha staff because the service was great today.

The Golden Duck is an absolutely brilliant to Times Square in Ringwood. I came here in a group of 9 and we were seated in a private room, very comfortable and intimate. I would definitely recommended to come here in a group as they were extremely accommodating. The service was also fantastic. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful, I couldn't believe how quickly our drinks and food came out despite it being a busy Friday night. We ordered a range of dishes to share. The meals are extremely large, for 9 of us we ordered 7 and we were all stuffed! I wasn't expecting much as I'm not a meat-eater, but was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the vegetarian dishes. Would 110% recommend the stir fried mushroom and eggplant dishes - SO DELICIOUS and filling. Yes, it may be slightly more expensive compared to other Chinese/yum cha restaurants in the area, but for the quality and service we received, there were definitely no complaints from us. Will definitely be back to try the yum cha :-)

Good addition to the food scenery in Ringwood. <br/><br/>Now we can have proper Cantonese Chinese food and Yumcha in Ringwood, specifically Eastland.<br/>Very well set up, modern Chinese interior, thank you for the private room/storage for chairs, forgiven as it is within a shopping centre complex where space is at a premium. Quite neat and clean, waiting team are well dress/uniform, White shirt & black vest, name tag too. Part of the conglomerate of Secret Kitchen and Chinabar Group.<br/><br/>Food wise; we've started with some dumplings, for dinner????? yeap, got some Caucasians with us :-) but it's all good, no harm. Those Dumplings were good too, just a tad bland.<br/>Food are well presented, somewhat well cooked but some were just bland; Chicken Cashews,  Cantonese Beef and Stir-fry Vegetables. Salt & Pepper Calamari and Pork Belly were outstanding.<br/><br/>Still not a bad experience, now we can get some Chinese Cantonese food there.

Lovely new restaurant in Eastland, part of Secret Kitchen. The food was at high standard but it can get quite busy so make sure you book before you go! The mango mochi was so yummy, it was like mango pudding incased in chewy soft mochi!

As a lover of all things Yum Cha, we were pleasantly surprised by Golden Duck. It's definitely a bit hidden but worth looking for! We booked ahead and was given the private room. Service was friendly (with smiles) and quick. Food is superior to most other restaurants but this is also reflected in the pricing (but it's worth it). Super plump dumplings (ha gao and truffle dumplings were highlights) and a great variety of other dishes. Would recommend and hope to return soon.

The service and eating environment were good but the Yum Cha was below average and expensive! As noted by a previous review, the pork bun was doughy and lacked filling. They were also dry in the middle and didn't look very fresh. The other steamed dumplings we ordered were not fresh and of low quality. Very dissapointing considering they charge a hefty premium for their Yum Cha compared to other Yum Cha restaurants and then serve sub-par food. Not coming back again.

I don't recommend this restaurant at all. The manager and the staff there are highly unprofessional and rude. Dining out is an experience not only about eating food, the service and attitude is important too.

This is the first time I came here for yumcha and to my dismay, most of the dim sums we ordered are of lower quality than average. I had a good experience with its dinner dishes when it first opened. Worst of all, the content in steamed barbecue pork buns look stale and taste yuck. When we confronted the manager about it, he said he doesn't like the colour of it either but did nothing about it. My friend and I felt frustrated about his reactions. Wouldn't recommend to come yum cha again.

Another stop on our "Tour de Town Square" at Eastland. We were here on a Friday eveing and the place was pretty full, so clearly is popular. My wife has been here for Yum Cha and recons it's great (I will come back for that).<br/><br/>We did a la carte and chose 2 started. (1/2 Duck and Chicken/Seafood Sang Choi Bao). The duck was quite good, but the Sang Choi Bao was pretty bland and had little texture.<br/><br/>Our mains consisted of Mushrooms in Superior Sauce (Excellent), Szechuan Spicy Beef (I loved it, but it wasn't a hit with the other 3 who probably prefer a more "westernised" version of Chinese) and Special Fried Rice. (OK).<br/><br/>Desserts were Coconut Milk & Black Glutinous rice cake. (OK) and Banana & Red Bean Pancake (Awesome!!!).<br/><br/>In our case we were up for a slow night, and the service matched that, not with intent, but just by an apparent avoidance of our table. It took the staff way to long to clean up our plates after each course, although other tables seemed to be turning around rapidly.<br/><br/>Overall pricey, but still enjoyable. I doubt if I will be back for dinner, but will give the Yum Cha a go at some point.

waste of time in this restaurant ... we had the Peking Duck ...... asked for some additional cucumber ...... wanted to charge us an extra $5 ...... ...... at the end of the night .... on the bill .... got charged $1.50 for water ..... .............. won't give this restaurant another chance to take our money ...... having written this .... the wait staff was good and efficient ...... shame that the management was not the same .............<br/>

Best service in Asian restaurants goes to them! However food was a little pricy, all 3 dishes we ordered tasted the same. The seafood combination hotpot was a disappointment, mostly dominated by fish fillets, the 2 prawns didn't taste fresh, scallops were stringy. Wagyu beef with black truffle was merely a vege dish with a few pieces of meat as garnish. Steam rice $3 per head.

<br/><br/>Before we entered the restaurant I was abit skeptical about Golden Duck seeing that it is part of the Secret Kitchen franchise (personally not a fan of their other shops) but it has definitely exceeded my expectations. First off our waiter Tony is friendly, genuine and he is great at his job. And then on to the food, there are a lot of interesting options on the menu so it took us a while to decide. We enjoyed the Peking duck here as it is not as oily compare to some others and it has the perfect crispy skin just like it should. the dumplings that came as a side has great flavours too. <br/>I haven't tried Asian style stir fry cuisine mixed with truffle so I really liked the wagyu dish and they're so generous with the beef! Salt pepper prawns and scallops egg white fried rice were demolished just as quickly as everything else. Overall a good and satisfying meal and I'd love to come back to try their seafood and soups.

This place looks great on the outside but the people they hire are the worst. Especially this middled aged men with glasses who might be the "captain". He took us to the table which we requested to change but he rudely told us off. I mean the place was empty at the time and we would like to sit somewhere that is comfortable but in his case its whatever he picks and if you dont like it, well bad luck. So, last time I checked I am a paying customer and I decided to get up and leave with my family. They may serve good food but with service as bad as Trump winning. I would avoid this place because its not worth the hard earn money. #BuildAWall

Yum cha with more specialties and finesse.  I couldn't fail anything, not even their service.  Maybe Eastland  Shopping centre didn't plan the location of this shop well - it is very hidden and out of the way.

Very bad services, I made phone call to book before went in and they haven't mark down it! Very very very Disappointed will not go anymore

Have come here twice now for yumcha and dinner, both times have been amazing. Very professional and good service. There is lots of variety of food, all dishes are fresh and full of flavour. Definitely recommend this Restaurant for quality Chinese food😍

We had a pleasant dinner at Golden Duck last Thursday night. Food was very flavorful and satisfying. Peking duck was nice. Service was reasonably polite, and the serving of the food was timed well. Do expect to pay a bit more when eating here. Overall a satisfying dinner but nothing to rave about.

The Golden Duck could be considered fine-dining, especially when it comes to price and the general atmosphere. Situated on the top floor of the newly renovated outdoor dining area of Eastland Ringwood, the Golden Duck is almost always brimming full of customers. I would recommend booking a table in advance, especially if you are in a group of 4 or more people.<br/><br/>The service could be improved. Only seconds after being seated, staff push you into ordering drinks before you've even had the opportunity to peruse the drinks menu. The food menu is much the same, as staff expect an order as soon as possible, and show their displeasure if you ask for more time. Poor service aside, the food was delicious. <br/><br/>I was one of 3 diners, and between us we shared the Steamed Pork Dumplings, Traditional Marinated Duck, Stir-Fried Seasonal Greens, Salt and Pepper Calamari, Sweet and Sour Pork and Steamed Rice. Every aspect of these dishes were delicious, however my partner complained that the duck was a little gristly for his tastes. I would tend to agree with him.<br/><br/>I would love the opportunity to return in future and make this our local go-to for Chinese, however the service did put me off a little. Staff were often abrupt, unsmiling and generally rude, almost to a point that you felt like you were inconveniencing them by being there. Not to mention their awful tendency to hover around you whilst you're trying to eat so they can grab the empty plates at the soonest chance they get. The food is impressive, but the service has more room for improvement before I will return.

Took Mum and Dad. Had some kind of delicious banquet that left us rolling out the door because we had to eat everything. Considering it was a mid-week the restaurant was quite full. The waiters were lovely and lively, did not rush us and kept the liquids topped up (water, tea and wine).<br/>The restaurant lacks a little ambiance however that could be addressed by booking a group into the private rooms.

17/03/17  Visited for Yum Cha again.  Last sitting of the day, and still there were a queue of people hoping to get in without a booking - don't think many did.  I am happy to report that the main issue I had with yum cha last time was absent this time.  No Boar Taint.  Thrilled to say, I could enjoy all of the pork options, including the pork spare ribs - yum - and didn't notice any stench of male pig - I hope that's the norm now.  All things we tried were delicious, and service was friendly....though some of the younger staff seemed a bit at a loss.  Having to ask for more mineral water and vinegar multiple times is unfortunate and is just a distraction from enjoying delicious food.Upping my rating from three and a half to four, based on the happy pork, discovery.========================================================================30/9/16  Yum Cha!  First sitting, 11.00 am, and a queue has formed, but we're still seated quite quickly, with drink orders immediately arranged - which of course includes tea.  Tony, you know, he's so great, efficient, and friendly, he's got it covered.<br/><br/>Starting at the end - if you go to yum cha here, and you find room for dessert, look out for a little trio (as are most of the yum cha dishes) of innocuous-looking mini fluted pans filled with mochi squishy with mango ice-cream.  I think these even trump the coconut jelly, most most usual favourite.<br/><br/>The rest of the family pretty much unanimously enjoyed every single dish we tried.  Sadly, my dislike of boar-taint effected my overall enjoyment.  While I already had chosen to steer clear of any of the specifically pork dishes due to my experience previously (see below), the taint also effected several of the seafood dumplings.  Not strong, more of an after-taste, but enough unfortunately.   Otherwise everything is cooked beautifully, the trollies are laden with all the usual suspects, staff are courteous, and prices are similar to other 'classier' yum cha restaurants.   But for the piggie-issue, we'd be regulars I suspect.  If you haven't a problem with male pork, visit, if you do notice the flavour/odor of boar-taint, there may be better options.<br/><br/>There is a private room - it was getting dumplings delivered too.<br/><br/>====================================================================================<br/><br/> Unlike a previous reviewer, seeing the name 'Golden Duck' immediately makes me ravenously hungry for duck.  On a Sunday night, during the school holidays, we made a spur-of-the-moment booking (an hour before we wanted to arrive) and were welcomed as if we were regulars.  <br/><br/>This restaurant, part of the China Bar dynasty has a bit of a split personality, looking at one end like a little Chinese cafe, and the other, as if it's a grand and posh venue.  We, with our late booking just manged to scrape in on the timber-look flooring beside the aquariums - we were on the border basically, not that you'd be unhappy with the opulent red banquet seating in the 'cafe' section.  I like that they have a section for walk-ins though, we may well be exactly that one day, so it doesn't bother me, but tonight, I was grateful to be dining with the 'posh' section.<br/><br/>Wait staff are super-attentive.  I have to say (again in comparison to another reviewer) I generally find Chinese restaurants have friendly service, I've experienced dodgy places for sure, but most Asian places of any genre have treated my dining partners and me well.  Golden Duck is up there with the best.  It's got quite charming old-fashioned service in fact.  I remember back in the olden days going out with friends who smoked trying to light their cigarette before a waiter shoved a lighter in front of their faces!  Now, I am glad you can't smoke in restaurants any more, but I love that the same attentive service is happening at Golden Duck (and a few other locations).  All friendly, all helpful, and all staff on the ball.<br/><br/>We were given menus and asked what we wanted to drink, we have to start with tea of course, so how charming to have a little glass pot of tea on a cute tea-light candle stand.  Not sure what kind of tea (didn't ask) but it was  delicious - and regularly topped up so it never became too strong...miraculously it also didn't lose its flavour either.<br/><br/>The menus are huge books because there are lots of pictures to whet your appetite, and info to read on the group of restaurants too if you fancy - maybe next time because we wanted to eat.<br/><br/>We decided to start with lettuce cups, the five of us went with the full range;  a vegetarian version, three seafood and one chicken.  There was some sort of a mix-up with only one of each coming out at first, and when the error was realised the situation was quickly fixed with genuine apology.  <br/>We were offered to have on our table soy sauce, chilli paste and vinegar (red) we accepted all of the above.  The cups came with a sauce, but you know I enjoyed a bit of chilli with mine - all flavours were very good, and the cups as crispy and fresh as you'd hope.<br/><br/>Now in spite of our late call to book, I did manage to procure a duck for our dinner.  One whole duck, 16 pancakes, spring onion shreds and cucumber batons along with a quality sauce.  <br/><br/>Duck was wheeled to our table and, with prep-gloves on, our friendly waiter carved our shiny duck just to the side of our table with deft skill and care.<br/><br/>While the pancakes were average, they were good enough, and besides the duck really shone!  It was  mahogany without and really juicy and moist within.  May be the most succulent duck I've tried.  Reasonable price and delicious means the duck alone will call us back...but wait there's more!  The dumplings!  The *duck dumplings* or as our youngest described them 'ducklings', could care less what you call them, but if the duck is worth coming back for the dumplings are worth crossing to the other side of town for.  I love a dumpling and these were about as good as dumplings get!  Seriously.  <br/><br/>The Pork Ribs in Hawthorn Fruit Sauce had a fabulous sauce.  I couldn't eat much of it, as it had a hint of boar taint about it.  I'm really fussy about boar-taint, and it was the faintest note to me, so, like the rest of my family most people probably wouldn't notice.  It was so good I ate a few pieces in spite of that.  <br/><br/>The Fried Rice with Scallop and Tomato (?) was scrummy too, so much so that our son not into fish, still enjoyed it and The Lovely Man not into tomatoes declared it delicious too.  We polished that off.<br/><br/>Sweets are not often worth perusing at Chinese restaurants but here there were several tempations.  K, one kid did go with ice-cream, but the kindly maître d' (?)  who'd already offered and been declined toppings, ensured it looked special with a little striped chocolate wafer cigar in it.  Really sweet.  The other desserts were more classically Asian, a Mango Pud(ding) which I would have liked to have tasted but it was wolfed down too fast by the mango-lover in our family, and a Coconut Milk and Black Glutinous Rice Cake - WINNER!  Like the ubiquitous coconut jelly at many yum cha sittings, and yet, the touch of difference with the black rice.  What a great combo, three generously sized squares - the two of us who ordered these felt like we'd made the best decision.<br/><br/>It's a lovely restaurant with classy fixtures, helpful wait-staff and truly fresh fish (it did put one of our kids off a bit to see one fish being captured with a net.....time for a reminder of the circle of life) if you want it.   I really wish they had loos on site as knowing you'd have to trek either into the shopping centre, or worse, back through the town square to get to the toilets is a pain.  Otherwise, it's worth spending a penny before arriving, as some of the dishes I'd not want to miss just because it's inconvenient to head out of the restaurant because of your bladder.<br/><br/>Curious to head back (with a booking) for yum cha.

Have always wanted to try their ducks, only 30 roasted a day and 29 are for sale. Came here with C for dinner. There was just 2 of us so we ordered half the duck with soup, dumpling and braised pork. The soup I had was some herbal one $12.90 per pot but it was soooooo good! I will definitely have it again next time. Duck, hmm, it's not the way they cut Peking duck, it's more like they were serving roast duck? Having had Peking duck since young, I noticed the way the duck is cut makes a big difference to the overall duck pancake tastiness. So unfortunately this didn't quite meet our mark. Duck dumplings were good though. I probably will stick with Secret Kitchen with yum cha, unless I'm craving for good Chinese soup.

Have been twice now. The first time, had more 'western' dishes. Honey Chicken and wagu beef stir fry and while the food was okay, it was just okay. Believe it or not there was too much honey on the chicken because it was sickly sweet and the stir fry was nice but lacking on beef. <br/>Then I went a second time, this time to yum cha and had the more traditional dishes and the place is transformed. These dishes were much, much better. The duck was seriously some of the tastiest I've ever had without being overly fatty. The dumplings were delicious and the various buns were delicious. They had several traditional desserts which were reported as being good, so overall it was a good experience. <br/>The only thing was that we had to ask what was on each trolley. Generally the waiter/ress was good at saying what they had on the top level of the trolley but they seemed to forget they had different dishes underneath, so ask and they will get them. Also asking for a specific dish is okay and reasonably fast. <br/>Recommend the yumcha but not so much a la cart, unless you are ordering more traditional dishes and not the westernised ones.

The food wasn't awful but for the price I expected better. $21 for a special fried rice. $22 for Singapore noodles..I thought wow must be something special about this. Nope. Just your stock standard rice and noodles. Same as you would get in the food court.<br/>Great that you can see what meals look like with he photos in the menu. Only problem is you expect the food to look like what you ordered. Sadly the prawns looked nothing like the picture. The batter was way too floury and claggy. Literally had to spit out bits of floury uncooked batter on the side of my plate. <br/>Service was ok but I agree with the other posts about waiters just standing there. One just stood a meter from our table looking in our direction for most of our meal. Errrr go away?!

Normally will make booking for Yum Cha, but quite impulsive this time to get quick bite, very lucky that we got a seat outside the shop.<br/><br/>I love the Szechuan xiu mai, the pork and prawn dim sum, love the spice of it, first time tried this combination, surprisingly good.<br/><br/>The specialty purple rice roll, wrapped with Chinese fried doughnut, green broccoli and prawn. My partner commented the prawn was fresh and big, crunchy texture, love the mixture of the dipping sauce, especially the sesame sauce.<br/><br/>The pork BBQ bun, was alright, but would love to have more roast BBQ sauce inside.<br/><br/>The chicken feet, full of flavour, also had some marinated peanut, quite good.<br/><br/>The chives dim sum, not my preference, so will not comment on it as I don't know much about it.<br/><br/>Overall service was good, but quite slow on refilling hot water for the tea, although has been requested for several times, the last time when I asked, I explained the reason I wanted it now because I don't want to hold on the table but I need some tea, I was impressed that the staff explained to me "there is no rush, I can sit as long as I like, because the table located outside here wasn't reserve, so we can take own time to taste the refill tea, he said delay due to not enough hot water, was boiling" although the excuse not very convincing that it took a while to get hot water, but wasn't mind too much as they didn't rush us off indeed, so w can take time to taste the tea after food.<br/><br/>Will consider to back again to try more dishes with friends.

Nice yum cha place part of the secret kitchen group. I was dubious as first as the one oh Glen Waverley had great food with bad service.<br/><br/>This place changed my mind about yum cha and service.<br/><br/>Good food, made to the flavour and with a mind to perfect the most simple dishes.<br/><br/>Service is good, contrary to most yum cha places. Nice pot of tea kept warm always, with constant attention to refill. Good selection of choices and plates are bigger than usual, and squarish instead of roundish. There's a mix of traditional and new style dishes available.<br/><br/>Recommended to try:<br/>BBQ pork bun <br/>Duck dumplings <br/>Durian pudding<br/><br/>Recommended for all that wants good yum cha with good service, comes with a slightly higher price per plate.<br/><br/>Note: 3 seatings available<br/><br/>

Fully booked out on Sunday morning yet we managed to get a table for 3. Catch was we had to be in and out in 45 mins. Easy.<br/><br/>Was quite impressed here though I had no expectations. Good variety of fresh, handmade siu mai and dim sum. Spicy dim sum and fried taro in pastry were most memorable. Loved the tea propped on candle to keep warm too!<br/><br/>Chicken feet were flavoursome and the interesting oat battered fried calamari was tender with slight astringent aftertaste. Still yummy though. <br/><br/>Service was actually reasonable. Have had worse experiences elsewhere that's for sure. Will be back for yum cha!

I have to say, this restuarant has a delicious selection of yum cha dishes. However, the portion is quite small for each dish and I reckon it is generally overpriced. All the dishes we ordered were marked as "medium" or above, there were no "small" dishes. There are a few special dishes like the buns and aiu mai, however it lacks the variety. The place is quite pleasent and located conveniently at Eastland/ringwood station. Service was not bad, some waitresses couldn't communicate very well besides their first language. I like their teapot as they heat the tea as you dine. Overall, if you not after a big feast but just a small meal at a quiet place, this would be your pick.

It's no secret (no pun intended) that this Golden Duck is part of the China Bar group of restaurants, the same guys that own China Bar, Secret Kitchen and Ramen Bankara. However despite having the word 'duck' in its name, I never thought of it specializing in duck (sorry marketing team) until reading the other reviews. When you've become familiar with Chinese restaurants, having prefixes like 'golden', 'lucky', 'happy'.... you get the idea, it negates any specialty the restaurant is intending to offer and just turns it into another generic name. And so we went along to check this place out for yum cha. <br/><br/>One of the new tenants in Eastland's town square, Golden Duck's main entrance is via the square itself but also accessible via the shopping center. The interior is naturally bright thanks the abundance of windows. A perfect opportunity for Instagrammers to feed their smartphones au natural. Being a Chinese restaurant most tables are catered for larger groups but despite that, it still felt roomy and comfortable. One of the plus sides of a yum cha restaurant - there must be room for the dim sum trolleys. <br/><br/>With only a limited number of players in the yum cha market, if your dim sums do not meet the standards, then you're out. Golden Duck is up there. The freshness is very evident in their steamed dim sums. Perhaps the fried ones have more tolerance and there weren't many out there implying the focus on freshness. Perhaps the only 'opportunity for improvement' is variety and more specifically some unique items. <br/><br/>Lastly the service. Chinese restaurants are not known for their service. It's pretty much an eat and go relationship. Well from the moment we sat down, the waiting staff were very attentive to our needs even though the place was running at full capacity. Our teapot was proactively filled, requests for extra chili sauce and cutlery were promptly fulfilled and off the menu orders were quickly dispatched and delivered. It's worth mentioning the next time you're there, do keep an eye out for Tony. An experienced waiter with over 40 years in the industry. A witty character with lots of jokes weaved into his recommendations and traffic controlling the dim sum carts.

So the only reason I gave them a 2 was because the food was quite decent. Had a birthday Yum Cha with the family and the quality was not too bad. However the service is why I would avoid this place at all cost. Started with me arriving and passing them the cake to store, the chief waiter said nothing to me and took my cake with a grouchy face. Through out the meal we had the head waiters clear dishes all again with no smile and a grouchy attitude, even had one loudly complaining about a client while standing next to us. But the icing on the cake was when I asked for the cake to be brought out. Now most places would bring it out served with plates etc. well at this restaurant I got the cake back in the box with nothing else. Even after I took it out and put candles on it and asked for a lighter still no offer of plates it a knife at all. Too frustrated to deal with it we packed the cake up to take home. I have to say that I am Chinese so my tolerance for rude Service is quite high but this place was one of the worse ever. Last straw was when I asked for a barcode for extended parking and was told only one per table, now what's the point of meeting friends for dinner if only one was allowed extended parking? I did have a chat with the Eastland staff who are all over the centre and she was baffled at that rule. So overall their service is non existent and there are so many other places I choose to spend my money.

Went for dinner with my family. We had the duck and a few other main dishes. Food was average, nothing particular that stood out. Apparently duck must be reserved when you make the booking.<br/>Would like to try the yumcha next time.

Came here with family and friends for their peking duck as well as yum cha on separate occasions. Their peking duck and duck dumplings were alright. Yum Cha dishes were pretty decent and most of the staff at Golden Duck are quite attentive and polite.  <br/><br/>However, I hope Golden duck could sort out with Eastland on its new cinema/restaurant parking validation coupon which means diner gets additional one hour free parking coupon to validate, on top of the 1st 3hr free parking at Eastland. On the day of my yum cha, We had  3 drivers at the table, spent 2.5hours in the restaurant and paid $96.53 in total for our bill.  Upon asking for 3 parking coupons, we were told by their staff Paul Li who insisted firmly couple of times that only ONE parking coupon per table per bill, eventually out of goodwill we were given 2. I had confirmed with Eastland staff before stepping into the restaurant if we are getting 3 parking coupons when we dine in at any restaurants at Eastland Town Square. Paul also told us that even if I am to book a yum cha/ lunch function with 10-20 people at a table with them, it would still be one parking validation coupon per table per bill! Wow.... I would imagine a silly dispute among many of us at the table on who is going to get the ONE and ONLY coupon?! Anyway later that day, we went to another restaurant along Town Square for arvo tea and guess what? No issues with whatsoever one coupon per table thingy when we checked with them. As the ticketless parking is still new at Eastland, I am not 100% sure how this system works at respective restaurants. I am sharing it here so others can be aware of the parking validation coupon given at Golden Duck.<br/><br/>I hope this is only a teething issue between Golden duck and Eastland. And will I come back again? Yes, as the food is decent and like I said, most staff are polite and attentive, I have nothing to fault about.

Got off to a bad start, noticing that my bowl was dirty. This was replaced by the waiter. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine - it arrived with no bubbles!! The waiter assured me that the bottle had just been opened. I opted for a glass of riesling instead. I ordered from the menu, not yum cha, but the spring rolls were warm at best, probably taken from the yum cha trolley. My friend ordered a tofu dish, but they had run out of tofu!!  <br/>All in all, I cannot recommend this restaurant.
CCC
I really wanted to love this restaurant but unfortunately it wasn't the case. The service is what killed it for me. We arrived and instantly they asked what we wanted to drink, without even giving us a menu, so they gave me a menu and stood over me as I tried to decide. My friend ordered two entrees instead of a main, and I ordered a main. We clearly asked for them to come out all at the same time, but of course they only brought out her soup. And my meal after she had finished. I didn't mind this too much, but what annoyed me was, there was ALWAYS a waiter or waitress standing next to our table watching us eat, the SECOND you put your chopsticks or spoon down, they took the plate. I felt so awkward and uncomfortable, I've never experienced anything like it. I then asked where the toilet was and there was no toilet!!! I couldn't believe it and I had to walk about 150m in the rain to a public toilet. They also wouldn't split the bill. Now the pros, I love that they have a big menu with pictures, I love that they have goose on the menu and all of our dishes were very good, not fantastic, but very good. it was the service that let them down. I will actually come back because I'm hoping it was a teething issue as they are still relatively new and I like the menu, but my first experience was a let down.<br/><br/>EDIT: came back again and I must say it was a little better, it was a busy Saturday night so they weren't hover-Y however we had the opposite issue!! No one would bring us a menu or take our order for ages. We then ordered our meals and one of us had the BBQ duck which didn't come out for a good half an hour after all the other main meals which was very disappointing, it was however absolutely delicious!

A group of friends and I reserved a table at the Golden Duck after being recommended by an older friend. We were expecting a quality meal and also good polite service, however this was not delivered. <br/><br/>The first issue was the waiters service, we had to ask if we could order drinks, entrees and mains without them voluntarily offering to take the order. They were also rude when taking our order and almost took our group as a joke due to possibly two reasons, our young age and our ethnicity being non-asian. Our behaviour didn't merrit our service which we received. It was almost as if they didn't have time for our group even though we spent $250+ dollars. <br/><br/>Second issue was the timing of the meals, our entrees took a long time to appear and there was large breaks between them. The main meals then appeared with a very staggered approach. Although, our rice never came out until after all the main meals had been sitting there for at least 10minutes. We also had to ask twice for the rice after all of this and they were giving us looks that we didn't deserve the food and good service. <br/><br/>The food quality was okay, however considering how expensive the meal was it wasn't worth it. Won't be recommending the Golden Duck to friends or family and didn't appreciate their lack of service. <br/><br/>If they are trying to widen their market to non-asian people then they will need to address a few issues or else they won't ever get returning customers. <br/><br/>

Fantastic customer service. Very attentive and nice. Had the Peking duck which was delicious and came with dumplings! Also had some amazing noodles with beef and beef with black truffle. The food was amazing and I will be back!

I was so excited that there is finally a Chinese Restaurant opened at Eastland. And it's part of the Secret Kitchens group so it must be good. <br/>Had a family dinner here recently and we had the following: pecking duck: just like your ordinary roasted duck, nothing special. <br/>dried scallops and egg white fried rice: egg white was over cooked and got burnt too. And only handful of dried scallops on the top of the rice <br/>dried scallops on snow peas leaves: the snow peas leaves were undercooked, and tasted like they have been boiled with flavoured stock. Lack that 'wok-fried' taste. <br/>garlic spare ribs: the spare ribs cubes were over cooked, so they were quite dry.<br/>Hot and spicy calamari: out of all the dishes this one was quite good. <br/>Service needs some improvement; it was hard to get the waitress and waiters attention. <br/>

A recently added Chinese restaurant at Eastland. Under the same umbrella as the secret kitchen group, they share few same dishes on the menu. The Peking duck is a specialty at this one yet the duck was unprofessionally sliced with some pieces being very thick as opposed to the thin crispy skin in traditional ones. The meat were turned into dumplings instead of the more common soup or stir-fry alternatives. We also ordered 2 other dishes which were relatively small in portion. Nevertheless the truffle wagyu was tender & juicy. <br/><br/>Food wise it's not bad but service needs to be improved. The waiter was waiting with the bill in hand as soon as we finished our food. We ordered dessert but again as soon as they were consumed, the bill was ready on our table. And this was on a fairly quiet night. Most customers see that gesture as kicking people out.

Very opened to a shopping centre corridor thus feel more like having lunch in a food court than inside a restaurant. <br/><br/>Tea and dim sims were very average in quality and price. Not many varieties of choices and the service is bordering on poor for such a small floor space. <br/><br/>Have not decided if I should come back to try their dinner.<br/><br/><br/>December 2016<br/>After our walk from Westfield to Ringwood my silly friends decided to go to this restaurant for yum Cha. Being a nice person I follow suit. <br/><br/>Same poor service. We have too pots of tea. One of them is Pauly. It is the darkest of all Chinese tea but ours is lighter than jasmine. Unwillingly they added a few new tea leaves when requested and the tea darkened up? I wonder if they reused tea leaves. <br/>We have to ask for refilling of the teapots almost every time. <br/><br/>One time we have to put the empty teapot on the top of a heap of dim dim containers to attract attention. The response was "so you do want water refills!"<br/><br/>Cha Siu bau is charged as medium dim sims. There are only 2 to a serve. They are small and badly made. Most others restaurants have 3 per serve and charged them as small dim sims. <br/><br/>The rest of the dim sims just do not reach par for a restaurant that enjoys such upper class reputation and price range. <br/><br/>I hope no one asks me to come here again. My treat but not here please!!<br/><br/><br/><br/>

Comparing with the new opening restaurant in China town, the food in Eastland one is better, but the team in China town is much better than Eastland one, including the manager ~

Went with friends for dinner food was fantastic.<br/>Service was a bit poor we had to attract their attention all night. <br/>When paying the bill they wouldn't split the bill which is so ridiculous in 2016 would make us think twice about going back.

My sister and I asked one of the waiters on how many orders of the special fried rice we should order, which was good for us as we were a group of eight. He said two, even doing a head count. It took so long for the food to be served. Apparently, the fried rice we ordered were two small bowls of fried rice. Orders came one at a time, and had to do a follow up on a small bowl of steamed rice. We ordered the steamed fish with black bean sauce, stir- fry beef w/ brocolli, braised pork belly with bean shoot , the $49 peking duck and they were alright. The tea was cool, just one of the waiters put X5 on our bill for the tea which he just refilled three times. Goodbye Golden Duck, not coming back ever:)

Golden duck in eastland has opened and since I am a huge duck fan and always searching for the best Peking duck around I wanted to go and give it a try. <br/><br/>It was quiet for a week day and the place wasn't busy. Service was attentive and good. They are doing a grand opening special for their Peking duck normally $59.95 and currently $49.95. There are 2 courses: first one being pancakes and cucumber and spring onion and second one duck dumplings (8 per serve). <br/><br/>Now one thing that did annoyed me was the fact that they have special conditions that you can't come in and just order the duck which mind you is quite filling and more than enough for 2 people. You have to order either an entree or a dessert or other dishes. It would be great that they actually let people know this in advance although I didn't see any minimum spend requirements on both their website or in the restaurant. <br/><br/>Now for the actual duck, it was carved in front of us and presented beautifully but the taste wasn't much different to a normal roast duck that you can have at other restaurants. I was disappointed given that they advertised that this was their specialty and they prepare this in such a way that it was unique to this restaurant. The duck dumpling on the other hand was different but a nice compliment as a second course. Tip: you must reserve a duck before you come here particularly on the weekends or you won't be able to have one. <br/><br/>For dessert we had the mango pudding and the durian puffs. For durian lovers they would enjoy the durian puff but I am not a huge fan so I thought it was good but not great. <br/><br/>Overall, Simons still stands as my top choice and go to for Peking duck for both value and taste.

Super bad experience, customer service so bad. booked 2 days in advance. When we made booking, no one explain to us properly how does the timing work. They only told us from 11:30-1:15. I was thinking we can be there on 12 as long as I could finish on 1:15. I can't believe the guy who greet us ask "So what time is it now? Do you think we can keepthe table for you for half hour"? Explain to him I don't quite understand how does that work, and I did ask if Im allowed to come between that period and the answer is YES. Then he said but there is no note on the book and they can only keep the table for us for 10 minutes which they didn't tell me. In the end the guy offer us a outside table and I refused. Be honest, I don't mind to seat outside, but why he offer us the table after the rude conversation. Im the customer and Im not to here for your blame. Will never come here again.

Yumcha 11-5pm. Average is yumcha but on the more stylish side. Staff are friendly and all speak english. Service is a bit slow at times and had to ask for soysauce. Dishes are well presented and come out warm. Only major difference compared to other yumchas is the prawns are bigger and flavoursome. Some dishes are made to order like the rice noodle rolls. Cleaning wise, the dishes are removed along the way. Price wise, it's a few dollars more than others.

Came here for both yum cha and dinner.<br/><br/>Their food was overall okay, similar quality as their other chainstore under the name of secret kitchen. <br/><br/>Service could be improved.......the staff who took our order has mistaken our order. When we were served a dish that we didn't order, we naturally told the waiting staff that they've made a mistake with the dish. What took us by surprise is that the staff said "come back next time to order the dish that you wanted to order initially". We told her a few times that this is not the dish that we order to make sure that she understood what we tried to tell her. <br/><br/>Followed by this incident, was that we were served an empty bucket of rice..... We were just speechless at that point.

First review for the recently opened secret kitchen - golden duck!! <br/><br/>So had a massive craving for peking ducks ans viola theres a new Chinese restaurant at Eastland. - Tuck a lil round the corner. So there we went last Friday!<br/><br/>Service was good. Bit slow here and there but i expect it is because all the staff were new and still getting the hang of the new environment? Had to ask for cutlery, water, soy sauce and chile. <br/><br/>They currently have a special opening deal - 16 peking ducks (16 pancakes) and 8 duck dumplings for $49.95 rather then the original $59.95. The dumpling i have to say was amazing! So tasty, tender and melts in your mouth! Roast Duck was good and they give you plenty of pancakes and garnishes!<br/><br/>Plenty of room and spaces. The only disappointment would be that the duck wasn't curved in front of us.. It was placed on a trolley but the chef was all the way on the other side behind us...? And didnt look that pretty on the plate..
