Our go to place for korean soup cravings no matter how far it is. The best korean pork soup in Melbourne.

Mr Lee’s food… A good Korean friend brought us to here. A bit sceptical in the beginning as the menu did not look appetizing and not as usual as the Korean restaurant we visited.

But it changed our opinion and we are addicted with their food. Beware of the line up though! This is not a common Korean restaurant. They don’t have a long list of menu, simplicity and specialty is what you called to get the best food.

Gukbap – soft and mellow pork soup. Rich with collagen and served in small stone bowl that retain the heat until your last spoon.

Soon dae – a unique blood sausage mixed with a Korean glass noodle. A bit weird in the beginning for the taste but you can not stop to the last piece. Dip lightly with seasoned salt

Jokbal – the pork hock braised with soy sauce and other spice. Handcrafting thinly slice.

I am waiting our next trip to the other side of Melbourne.

The sausage was very unique in texture, unlike anything I’ve ever had. The food is very authentic, as my Korean friend suggested - more authentic sausages than the ones she had in Korea. The soup was very rich and creamy, came in a generous serving size. Would highly recommend this to people loving to try new Korean dishes.

Not only did I get good feedback from Korean friends, but Mr Lees also won Timeout’s 2019 Best Cheap Eats Award.

I’m not sure what the criteria was or how they even found the restaurant, but it’s a pretty good effort.

The restaurant specialises in a few Korean dishes, namely pork-based.

It’s a relatively small restaurant out in the sticks. It’s barebones with only a Korean menu on the wall. You would have to ask for an English menu.

Gukbap – the pork based soup is slow cooked until the broth is white and milky. Different cuts of pork are thrown in and served up with a side of rice, preserved shrimp and a soy bean-paste coated chilli.

Alternatively one of the more popular dishes is the steamed pork belly, or soy sauce braised pork which comes out on a large plate.

I tried the cold cut of pork made from trotter, served with a mustard vinaigrette and fresh shaved cabbage.

I’m no stranger to this type of food and really enjoyed the meal.

The experience is very authentic, and is indeed a cheap eat, but it’s a little bit out.

Very authentic experience. The $15 soup was really more like a whole meal as the soup same with pickled radishes and rice. I ordered the soup with organ meat and sausage and thought it was really healing and had lots of ingredients. The sausage is not for everyone but I really liked the texture and thought that the taste was nice spiked with a tiny bit of blood. It really isn’t as “blood” tasting as I thought it would be, the sausage is stuffed full of noodles and seasoned nicely. It was my first time and I thought it was a very worthwhile experience! Also try out their complimentary coffee machine near the register. The staff are friendly but do not speak much English.

One of the best Soon Dae in Melbourne.
A very friendly family business.
Must order steamed pork belly too!
Sometimes I do get a normal tasteless soup, I am wondering why maybe a new cooked stock no yet enough seasoning? So 4 stars for this reason.
But overall I am very happy most the times when I get exactly the soup should be.

Tasted very authentic and the servings sizes for the dishes were all really great! Value is good for Melbourne (bar is set pretty low there...) and the ambience is just like that of a Korean diner.

I would caution that it almost feels so authentic that non-Korean may feel out of their comfort zones - food is still worth trying though.

Never expected to find a gukbab place in Ringwood east. Very authentic with great service. Had Mr Lee's big black blood filled sausage. It was delicious.

Very authentic korean food that will soothe your soul, been here 4 times since i discovered this lovely place! menu range is quite small but it is all i need. i got the mixed blood sausage and pork soup twice, and the blood sausage soup only twice depends on my craving. Free coffee from the coffee machine also, the aunty serving us is really nice and friendly. Would come back again anytime soon even though its quite far from where i live

Mr. Lee's is located in a strip of shops on Old Lilydale Road. It is small but dang, it was full of Korean people. We were like "Where did all these people come from?" Given that all the other shops were either quiet or closed, it meant that all these cars parked at the front were here for Mr. Lee's.

Once everyone had the first taste of gukbab (pork rice soup), you could hear the noises of appreciation made by my Korean friends. All of them also tilted their bowls on the plate to finish every bit of the soup. That my friends, is when you know it's good by Korean standards!

I've never had soondae (a vermicelli sausage) before and seems like it's rarely found in any other Korean restaurants, it is very good!! I like the pork hock too - so delicious! They don't take reservations. There's no outside tables, and they do follow the density limit rule strictly, so you might need to wait outside when it reaches the population limit inside of the restaurant.

I had Steamed Soon Dae, Pork Soup, Pork Hock. It's amazing! It made me feel as if I was in Korea. All the dishes, side dishes, sauces are so delicious and authentic. Every single of them is perfect. Exactly what I used to eat in Korea! I'll definitely come visit again. Thank you so much!

국밥 is a combination of white rice & hot, rich soup. The soup at Mr Lee’s is thick, flavourful and so so healing, especially when you add extra pepper, the flavour is just so comforting 🥰 the rice here is top quality, so good. Jokbal is okay, not a big fan bc of its skin 🫤but the kimchi here is so good. The options are quite limited since people come here mostly for the gukbab. They have 7 dishes in the menu, and all of them are pork so if you’re not a fan of pork, prob it’s not your first choice ☹️ Overall, this is exactly the soup for your soul! Mr Lee's is a small restaurant that only has 6 dishes on their menu and they're all pork base. You've got pork soups, pork hock, steamed pork belly and soon dae. So if you're not a fan of pork, keep scrolling. The soups at Mr Lee's are so flavourful and it literally heals your soul. I have yet to try their Jok Bal (pork hock) but their soups and steamed pork belly are perfect. You cannot fault them at all. I highly recommend going early. We stopped by one night at waited 45 minutes - worth it? Worth it! Then the next time I went early in the morning at 11am, just as they opened and it was dead quiet. It was perfect

We went for dinner, and the soup was quite nice; however, my partner was not a big fan of it. Very small restaurant that the menus on the wall are all in Korean. Food served with rice and service is alright. Very busy at dinner time as well.

The gukbap was alright, a little bland for my taste but I could have asked for extra side of seasoning (more 새우젓 etc) so that’s my fault I guess. The side dishes was great and went so well with the soup. The lady was a little rude to partner however, she was walking away even though he was still in the middle of ordering for us.

IG: melbfoodie_mark 📍Mr Lee's Food, Ringwood 100/10 Visit Again (You should too!) I'm from Busan, South Korea where it's eminent for Dwaeji-gukbap (pork gukbap). It's THE soul food You'd literally see gukbap eateries everywhere you go. Naturally, I got to try all the different variations of gukbaps - both good and bad. So believe me when I say Dwaeji-Gukbap from Mr Lee's is truly one of the best ones I've had in my life. This is THE place if you want to have that authentic gukbap experience in Victoria (I promise you. It's going to be very difficult to find a place that does gukbab better even within Korea). Perfect for a bitterly cold winter night, you just gatta get down to business and slurp down all that rich, milky rice soup. Pork was tender and tasted fresh. That's not all. Even their Soon Daes and Pork Hok (Jok Bal) were ridiculously fresh, tasty, and flavoursome. Everything tasted super authentic, using the correct, fresh ingredients. PLUS, entire Jok Bal for only $30? That's just mad. Wash all that richness down with a shot of soju 👌 Lyfe is g00d. I know some of you guys might be a bit sceptical and apprehensive as the menu doesn't look appetizing. But if you are into Korean cuisine (or Asian in general), this place is a must visit... Or don't! More for me LOL 🍲🐷 #melbfoodiemark #mrleesfood #gukbap #soondae

One of the more authentic Korean food places in Melbourne. Definitely worth the long drive down to this place. Limited choices on menu but the soup is heavenly. Soondae can be found here as well.
