This restaurant is clean and tidy, with friendly staff. We ordered the oysters and they were raw, fresh and yummy. We couldn’t get enough.
This venue is one of the quintessential Sydney lunchtime dining experiences. We had gorgeous food on the day, my fave was the lamb which some people may say was too rare but I like lamb on the rarer side so perfect for me.
Little criticism on service: a couple of girls were pregnant and so not drinking from our obnoxiously large bottles of wine (which were poured regularly) and ordering mocktails instead. Both girls had to ask for their drinks multiple times which is not quite the level of service you expect when paying $250+ a head. When alerted at the end of our meal, the manager offered each lady an additional mocktail on the house.
An excellent experience had here. Located on Rose Bay, this restaurant affords excellent views of the water. Although the prices are higher this is balanced out by the chef hatted food, wonderful service, and fantastic views. We had booked in for the later sitting for lunch (there are sittings at 12pm, 1230pm, and 230pm). All the tables were basically full when we arrived and wasn’t surprised our request for a balcony table wasn’t available as mostly larger groups sat out there.
Our drink orders were taken and we both went with mocktails. My friend had the Orange Blossom and I had the Home Made Seasonal Lemonade (which had passionfruit puree). Both were lovely and refreshing for a hot day like we had.
My friend wasn’t feeling the best so only had a main course. I begun with the Pan Roasted Quail. Dainty pieces of quail were sat upon celeriac puree, rainbow chard, peaches, and hazelnuts. A beautiful combination of flavours and textures. I loved how the chard had some sharp acidity to balance out the fattiness of the quail.
For mains I had the Black Onyx Beef Tenderloin. A very cooked piece of beef which was generous in portion. Alongside it sat a piece of fried polenta, onion, parmesan aioli, and chimichurri. I loved how it was cooked and the tenderness of it. The accompaniments were fantastic too. My friend said her Roasted Cowra Lamb Rack was succulent and especially loved the eggplant caponata that came with it.
I then finished off with Passionfruit Curd Meringue Tart. It was a tart filled with passionfruit curd and mango and topped with meringue and gold leaf. It was served with lychees and passionfruit ice cream. It was light enough to end the meal with but also indulgent at the same time.
It was a very pleasant meal and would suggest to try here.
Fancy restaurant with good food. Definitely expensive but you’re paying for the location with great views. A place to go for special events.
Loved the risotto dish and the cocktails especially the espresso martini. Great spot over looking the water. Always a great dining experience
I came here with my bf over the weekends and everything we ordered was delicious. I LOVE THE OYSTERS HERE! The service was amazing and our waiter had some cheeky banter with us. All in all, it was a fun experience, I'd come here again.
Catalina has been on my go to list for over a year. I was thrilled to finally have tried it. The service was faultless. Portions were extremely generous. Oysters & The Barramundi was the stand out for me. I would definitely recommend a visit here.
One of the top three most beautiful restaurants to dine at in Sydney . With the food always being consistently satisfying without ever reaching those culinary high notes . It’s more about the view and the vibe but the food doesn’t hurt . Service is excellent .
I’ve dined here on two separate occasions and have had a pleasant experience each time!
Personally, I‘m never in love with the entrees - they’re ok, but not worth their price. However, mains and dessert are always delicious.
In particular the caramelised fig, butter caramel mousse, brik pastry and pistachio praline for dessert!! Easily my favourite dish on this occasion.
Service is great and views are amazing (best to come for lunch). It’s also worth it if you have the birthday club voucher where you essentially receive $100 off your total bill.
Service and food exceeded expectations. The view, atmosphere, ambience was the best thing about this restaurant, our table was a 2-seater facing the bay on the balcony. It was about $290 for 3 entrees, 1 main, taster $75 dessert platter, 1 drink and 1 alcoholic drink. The oysters and scallop were my favourites. The salmon brioche entree was also amazing, the salmon melts flavour on your tongue. We had the squid ink pasta as a main but I would not get it again.
Fantastic ambience. Great service. Fresh and delicious foods. You really can't ask for more. The 3 course weekend menu for $140 is a steal for the quality produce served. I had the scallops for entree, whole snapper for main and the cheese platter for dessert. Coffee and petit fours also come with this menu. My friends had other options for their courses and each dish looked amazing. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the selections on the menu. The best thing is there's no time limit on your seating so you can stay for as long as you wish to enjoy those views! I'd highly recommend a day time meal for this restaurant so that there's enough light to appreciate the stunning location.
An absolute Sydney icon, Catalina must be on everyone’s list. With that amazing view as the backdrop, the food that comes out is flawlessly done. The wine menu is extensive and fit for every budget. Service and attentiveness can waiver when they get busy, which is the only blemish on an otherwise great place!
Service was good overall, particular shoutout to the waiter with the one earring- absolute star.
Food was okay, not the best ‘fine dining’ in Sydney but big portions.
There were a lot of flies in the restaurant, we were swatting away up to four at one point and they kept landing on the food.
We dined at Catalina for the first time on Friday night. We mentioned we were celebrating a 40th birthday. We asked if we could be sat somewhere near the windows but we were quickly dismissed by the snotty aged woman in the reception saying “there’s view everywhere”. She was moody that night, it kind of started our night sourly. the seats in the window and middle aisle weren’t occupied at all, even after we left. We then noticed that all the diners with kids/family are “strategically”placed on the far end and sides of the restaurant, despite the request/ occasion or acuity.
Servings and food were delicious. Other waiters were friendly and assisted us well. Hence I’m giving 4 stars
Friday lunch. Fantastic location, fantastic service, fantastic food but fantastically loud.
The Kingfish entree was amazing, as was the Murray Cod. Others in our group loved the prawns, WA Marron and the scollops. Lux desserts to wrap things up.
Service was friendly, and surprisingly attentive given the packed state of the venue.
All in track for 5 stars if we not for the ambient noise level even with doors all open across the bay.
Hint: get the ferry back to the city as the sun goes down.
We were celebrating my husbands 70th birthday with a lunch. We were looked after beautifully. Excellent service left us feeling special. The food was as always excellent, delicious and perfectly presented.
The acknowledgment of my husbands birthday in writing on his dessert plate was perfect. Thank you for making this occasion everything I had hoped it would be. Just thank you.
Exceptional customer service, Catalina always knows how to make a meal feel special and carefully created. The sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful when choosing wine. Each course and side was delicious. Love the venue as always, easy parking and beautiful view, sitting on the water only elevates the experience. Second time visiting and would definately keep coming back for important events.
