Best food and best customer service. Will highly recommend this place for people in the West
This is for Werribee Anjappar. You guys are the best.
.
We loved the food at Anjappar! I must admit, when I read the initial reviews I was disappointed but no one to judge a book by its cover I decided to try it out,,, the staff although not very experienced, were absolutely lovely! They were really helpful! The food was awesome! We tried a bit of everything and were stuffed but that didn't stop us from walking out with takeaway bags:)
The only downside is that this is not a place for the budget conscious!
I went to Anjappar with my family for dinner tonight and was pleasantly surprised with the place. The ambience, service and food was exceptional. Even my 1 year old son finished the plate of Idly without any fuss. The staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Excellent service and great food . I would definitely recommend this place .
Authentic south-indian chettinaud food, goat biriyani is to die for, great customer service both dine in and takeaway
Our first visit to Anjappar Restaurant today for my husbands birthday lunch. Food was delicious, clean modern restaurant and the customer service was excellent. A red velvet cake compliments of the restaurant was brought out for my husband.
Highly recommend the masala dose, chicken fried rice, mutton and prawn curry. Staff were extremely attentive and the owner even came up and chatted & asked us how everything was.
Restaurant was full of Indians on Easter Sunday always a good sign of the authenticity of the mainly South Indian food. Mango lassi and Pina Colada were very nice. We will definitely go back.
Food was not bad but my husband and I had stomachache and diarrhoea after having dinner there. Not sure if it’s cause of the spiciness or cleanliness though..
It’s unfortunate that earlier reviews and also reviews from the Queens St Melb. Anjappar should affect the rating for Anjappar Rowville.
I was apprehensive about visiting Anjappar Rowville because of the average rating - but after visiting Anjappar Rowville tonight for dinner I WAS NOT disappointed!
In fact, I was pleasantly surprised!
First, we have to realise that this is not your run of the mill, westernised Indian (i.e. Butter Chicken, Naan, Korma, etc) that most people may be used to.
This is typical South Indian fare, including authentic and fusion dishes and street specialities such as:
Chicken 65 (extra spicy, fried, street style fried chicken)
Dosa (savoury fried pancake with a variety of fillings)
Uttappaam (spicy rice cake with toppings)
Iddly (fermented, steamed, soft rice cake)
Indian versions of fried rice and
deserts like Rava Keseri (sugared semolina) plus
Classic after meal drinks such as Masala Chai and Madras Style Coffee.
If you are a South Indian looking to satisfy some street food cravings or even cravings for home cooked food - this is the place to be! But if you are looking to compare this place to high end, mainstream, cookie-cutter Indian - you will be disappointed.
The decor is simple and casual, yet modern, and family friendly. Ideal for a lunch or dinner with family or close friends. Cutlery and serviettes are on the tables, booths near the windows available, pleasant ambience is provided by the open space and high ceilings.
There is also an outdoor area at the front, with shaded seating.
The large palm tree out the front combined with the bright signage and wall hangings gives a slight tropical feel.
Service is attentive & polite and the waitress I had could remember the whole order without writing it down.
Highlights included:
GHEE DOSA - Comes served with sambar, coconut and chilli chutney. A golden, crispy, crunchy cone of heaven!
Real ghee is used to fry the Dosa batter, making it delightfully buttery. I found it hard to stop at just one.
MUTTON FRIED RICE: Pieces of soft mutton tossed with fried egg, spring onion, carrots and beautifully cooked basmati rice. Wonderfully simple flavourings.
TANDOORI CHICKEN: Well seasoned with yoghurt and spice, slightly charcoal flavoured (as it should be), and nicely cooked. Cut up into portions (if you order half a chicken or full). Comes served with green mint chutney and sliced raw onions. Very tasty and satisfying if you are looking for a well cooked protein fix.
MADRAS STYLE COFFEE: Strongly flavoured, creamy, concentrated coffee. Served steaming hot, in a small steel cup with matching saucer.
You pour the tea from the little cup, into the saucer, then back and forth a few times to cool and froth up the liquid. Tastes JUST like the wonderful coffee you get from the coffee vendors on the trains all over South India.
Bottom line:
If you want real South Indian dishes and street style food in a casual setting - come to Anjappar Rowville.
If you want “butter chicken” or “naan” go to your other local Indian joint or a North Indian specialty place.
Loved it. Will come back next time and try more dishes!
When I wanted to celebrate Mother’s Day I wanted to take my mom to a restaurant where she will enjoy her food. Anjappar is the only authentic south Indian in specific Tamil Nadu style restaurant she has enjoyed so far. I still remember the seeraga samba biriyani which had the authentic aroma and flavour I wish for. We also the chicken dum biriyani and the spl of the day chicken curry. I always go for kothu Parotta which was scrumptious. I have to mention the staffs who were not only friendly, took personal care on me since I was a expecting mum. I will revisit and also have been recommending my friends to visit if they miss South Indian food :)
Awesome food, excellent service!! The biryani was the best I have ever had and the waitress was extremely friendly and made us feel so at home.
Simple decor. Traditional Indian music a little too loud. Mostly Indian customers. Love it!
Service: friendly staff and very respectful
Food: traditional cuisine with some dishes I had not tried before. Well prepared, quick service and great taste. Everything fell into place nicely and the Kingfisher beer washed it all down refreshingly.
Price: value for money. Well priced
Happy to go back. And yes, I certainly will.
Very good food typical southern Indian 😻 the staff members were very nice and falooda was awesome too overall very good restaurant.
But please make sure u tell them how much spice u like
This is for the Anjappar at Melbourne on Queen Street. I went their today a bit hesitant at the mixed reviews. I was greeted immediately on arrival and shown to a seat. When I asked for another one of my own preference, they happily obliged. It was about half filled when I arrived at 2PM. The ambience was nice, the music was great. The waitress took my order for a Fish Curry Thali and a Kingfisher beer. She was very courteous and friendly. The meal arrived hot and tasted wonderful. The fish i believe was Seer Fish and it was cooked just right. The rice had the usual curries at Indian hotels but the spiciness was just right. Some places tend to have it bland, but here it was perfect. I enjoyed the meal and spoke with the manager while leaving, appreciating the staff and the overall quality. I will certainly visit again.
Hard Core non veg restaurant. I liked the Tamilian experience of several curries served in big thali. Taste is skewed towards South Indian flavours.

Having heard all comments (mostly negative), was a little apprehensive about trying. But then dropped in for a dinner. Had vegetarian Thali, idli, poondu kozhambu. Outstanding taste. Took me back to south India ❤ the spread was all worth it!

The quantity is worth the price!!
Good food. Friendly staff, especially the manager. Surprisingly good quantity as well and a good location. I will definitely recommend a visit at least once.

Spicy authentic South Indian food rather than watered down bland food

Sitting in Anjappar in studpark and customer service is so great by Ganesh and his manager. waiting for the food - wow within few min got the food. order chicken thali and mutton briyani. thali rice could have been better. mutton in the briyani need to be cooked more. it is a bit expensive. great environment. will come again.
I came here for an afternoon lunch. Apart from their superb courteous hospitality, their meal are delicious.
Recommend the special ghee dosa & the chicken, fish meal thaalis
You can eat and enjoy every bite of the meal. Would recommend to anybody who likes home made meals
We had lunch at Anjappar with few relatives. The dishes were delicious . We tried the Chettinad Prawn Masala, Quail Biriyani, Chettinad Chicken, Malabar Parattas, Kulfi and Lassi and all the dishes were superb. The service was prompt and friendly. The place is bright with plenty of natural light. There is adequate parking in front of the restaurent and near the adjoining KFC outlet. The bar is well stocked. Overall, we all had a great experience. Looking forward to visiting the Queen Street outlet when it starts operating in June.
The food was excellent. It took us back to food we enjoyed in India. Will be back again. Am looking forward to the new CBD restaurant when it opens.
Excellent Vegetarian Thali and great customer service.
Good portion sizes with ample rice unlike some other places which are very stingy to serve enough rice
Easily number one in the area for Vegetarian cuisine.

Visited the restaurant last night and really loved the chicken kottu parata, Chicken 65 Biriyani and the very best masala tea.
The ambiance is very calm and friendly service was provided by the staff.
Excellent biryani! Better than the India restaurants.
Don't miss the prawn 65 and egg kothu paratha. Overall very good food. The ambience could be improved.
I was waiting for this for a long time and had very high expectations.
The ambience was bland and it was like sitting in a budget take away shop.

To start with a lot of expectations as I have been to the flagship restaurants in South India. The ambience is a disaster which is really sad especially since the Chettinad region is known for its architectural grandeur. The staff were friendly but wish they were groomed better instead of made to look like factory workers. The food was good, at least the flavours were not diluted to please a larger audience. We started with the mutton bone soup and nethli fry, both of which were really good. Then we ordered the idly combo and idiyappam combo; again not disappointed but wish the food was served in better serveware. The biryani was average and did not live up to the Chettinad standards. Overall happy with the food and will definitely go back.
A good South Indian restaurant. Food was good. Friendly staff. Will definitely visit again. Signature dish is definitely the Biriyani and brings south Indian taste.
Just enjoyed our first visit to Anjappar at Rowville and loved it. We wanted to wait a few weeks before we tried this restaurant to let them work out their teething problems and we weren't disappointed. The service was friendly, efficient and plentiful. The menu was different in that the recipes were more from southern India so not your typical menu like every other Indian restaurant around. The servings were generous and the flavors were superb. Our waitress Shiwangi was just gorgeous. We ordered take away to take home with us too and we'll certainly be back. And they say that if a restaurant is full of people of its own culture it must be good - well this one is full and It's better than good.
