We spoke to the waiter who said that the seafood crepes are the ones to order and that they often do it as a special 4 x a year. The chef changes the seafood recipe regularly. We had the seafood crepe; had a light cream/buttery taste to it and was amazing. Really fresh seafood and all round tasty. Definitely order the seafood crepe. We also had the chocolate mousse - 75% Belgian chocolate, really tasty
Amazing authentic real French bistro style food. Attentive and knowledgeable staff and the best duck and rillettes I’ve ever eaten. Not to mention the bisque sauce with the prawns and the desserts!
A real find
My gal and I had a fab and memorable dinner at this lovely little resto on the peninsula. The steak was wonderful - the oysters we beautiful. This is serious food without the pretension. Staff were lovely
Came here tonight for dinner and wow it was amazing food! My partner and I had mussels to start which was in a delicious garlic sauce and were to die for! My partner had the lamb shoulder and I had the steak- both were incredible meals with loads of flavour! The meals are cooked with such effort and care- you can really tell by the flavours of the dish. Service was outstanding with lovely staff including the chef! Beautiful little cafe/ restaurant- love the decor. We will be back as who doesn’t love French food!
This is an update of my earlier review of this wonderful French-themed cafe. When I wrote my earlier review, Sacre Bleu was exclusively breakfast and lunch. Very occasionally they would offer dinner on special themed nights, such as Bastille Day. We attended one of those dinners, and I came away hoping that they would open regularly for dinner. Well, my wish has been granted. Sacre Bleu now opens regularly for dinner and offers the sort of honest, unpretentious, hearty, classic French food that is becoming a rarity in these days of fusion cuisine.
Sacre Bleu is a family affair. Alain runs the kitchen; wife, Ann Marie, and son, Jean Luc, look after the customers. They are a great team, and provide a friendly, welcoming, yet casual dining experience. Having dinner at Sacre Bleu is a bit like eating dinner in someone's home, except that very few homes would be able to produce food of this quality. Alain and Ann Marie appear to have modelled their dinners on the classic plat de jour bistros of Alain's native France. The menu isn't huge and changes constantly, depending on the quality of produce that can be sourced. When we dined there last, there were five main course options, including a vego dish. There's a few entrees and three desserts were on offer, including their signature crepe suzette.
Everything we ate at our recent dinner was excellent. Alain makes his own terrine, and it is superb, as was the raclette on potatoes. But the highlight for me was the barramundi and prawns on spinach served with a lobster cream sauce. Oh, man, that sauce. Fortunately, generous serves of excellent bread are available to enjoy those wonderful sauces. There is an interesting small wine list of carefully chosen reds and whites, featuring some French drops, including an excellent riesling from the Alsace region. Serves here are hearty. Don't expect nouvelle cuisine; this is old-fashioned quality home cooking.
Alain is a real chef; he loves French food, and celebrating the flavours and techniques of French cooking. And he does it so well. He, Ann Marie and Jean Luc make a great team. A dinner here is as good as anything you'll get in the Big Smoke; so, as Molly says, "Do yourself a favour..."
Great customer service and great food specially the Morrocan lamb. Definitely will recommend this cafe. Very family friendly and great location just opposite the beach.
Lovely little cafe along the main road, just opposite the amusement rides. Visited quite late in the afternoon so only had the coffee. Coffee was very good. The shop had a business for sale sign. Hopefully, a new owner is found.
I ate the tuna steak salad for lunch time and the steak was cooked beautiful and rare, the salad was dressed well and full of flavour. One friend ate the crepe with salmon and she loved it. Another friend had eggs benedict and found it incredible. Good coffee also.
Great little French Cafe in Rye! Amazing Crepes made so well and tasty! Size and flavours were so perfect! The use of buckwheat in the pancake made it light! Coffee was also good for Rye!
Beef bourguignon pie is really great! The beef bourguignon is really tasty and hearty, the pastry can be more buttery. Seafood chowder is very nice too. Not as creamy and is jam packed with lots of ingredients.
