Surprisingly great service and they know their food!
SERVICE: 5/5
It's define far from chefs hat dining however the service here has always been so welcoming and friendly. We've done takeaway here and dined in even with a large group. There is an older gentleman waiter who is a character. He has serenaded us with his guitar and jokes around all night. Very unexpected but so enjoyable.
FOOD: 5/5
All jokes aside their food is top quality. We have not had a bad dish here. The prices are also very reasonable and the serving sizes are generous. The roast duck here is fabulous. Crispy skin, juicy meat and full of flavour. The crab noodles are also a winner as are the crispy chicken spare ribs, try the one with salted egg yolk!
DECOR & AMBIENCE: 2.5/5
Stock standard crowded Chinese restaurant set up but comfortable enough and they keep it clean. Reasonable amount of parking on-site at front and out back which is handy.
KID FRIENDLY: Avoid
Cramped space and can get very loud during busy service period as the restaurant isn't huge. Older kids will be fine here, pack an iPad in case parents want to eat in peace. Food is that good!
I've lived in the area for over 12 years, and whenever my family saw Red House we always drove past it, thinking it was just another chinese takeaway with really sweet, untraditional chinese food. Recently, we randomly decided to get takeaway, and I can't believe we've gone this long without going here.
Whilst, in my opinion, most of their stir fry dishes cater towards a sweeter, more "westernised chinese food" taste, their roast duck and pork belly are my favourites and taste very authentic. I've grown up eating duck and pork often, trying many places, and most of them I remember not liking as their duck was chewy and the pork belly fat was really "jelly" in texture. Red House's duck is tender, and their roast pork is always really good, and we always order these! Other dishes I've loved is their crispy fried beancurd, the fish with sweetcorn soup and the chicken ribs with salt and pepper.
I also love how they have nice takeaway freebies - every time we order we always get prawn crackers and a sweetcorn soup (love eating this with fried fish!) Would definitely recommend coming here!!
Good food, reasonable prices, big portions, good variety, nice service, not too far from home. What more could we ask for! The fried fish skin and white bait are great appetizers. Roast meat, noodles are also pretty good!
