Good service and food. Char Kway is one of the best in Perth.

We had spicy sour laksa. Peanuty smooth curry nasi lemak. Penang sausage called lobak. Penang prawn rolls bursting with hawkers delight. Fried kueh teow or rice sticks sprinkled with pork fatty crackling. We had fish head noodles with white soupy sauce. All this consumed al fresco in front of the car. Authentic hawker sounds smells and ambience. All washed down with teh tarik the air pulled tea with sweet milk.

I reckon you won’t be able to find another Assam Laksa as good as Penang Hawker in Perth. Please add prawn paste, without it, the taste will be out of balance. My partner had Prawn Noodle and he thought that it was ok.

Will definitely come back to try out more dishes. They seem to be serving quite authentic Penang dishes.

We enjoyed dishes we had at PHF a while back. Tasted pretty authentic (I used to live there for a couple of years) and the portions were big. We had Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken with Blue Rice (extra $), Homemade Pork Noodle, Char Kway Teow, Prawn Roll (no photo) and my sister had barley drink with blue pea colouring. The venue was rather small and not pram friendly but lucky we arrived early and managed to get a table inside.

The credibility of a new restaurant calling themselves "Penang Hawker" lives or dies on their "Char Kway Teow" dish.  I'm glad to say that they passed.  Good flavour and smell, presented well.  Look forward to try other dishes.

After seeing various reviews on Facebook and posts on this restaurant, thought we should give it a try. Penang Hawker Food is tucked away in a nice niche that makes it a bit hard to find. Parking is also a premium due to Kahmon being beside it. If like me, you go on a wet and dark night with the rain pelting down, be careful of parking on the grass. There are several rocks which left a massive gash on my car side skirts. But hey you are here for the food and not what happened to me. So onwards my fellow gastronomer.
Firstly, this restaurant is small. I think it can sit approximately 20 people and that is it. So make sure you either arrive early or later in the evening. We were lucky as we arrive about 7.30 and a table had just cleared out.
Dishes ordered are as follows. Big Boss had the Lor Mee with bee hoon. I mean, WTH! Bee hoon and Lor mee does not go together but I am not going to argue with her. According to her, the sauce was yummy, all was done properly and more importantly, there was some chilli paste given as well. All in all, she was satisfied with the meal.
Little boss had the fish wings bee hoon. The broth is the milky version. Noodles were nice and plump, vegetables were crunchy. But he especially loved the fish wings. All the flesh was polished off and bones were left gleaming clean. So obviously it met his approval.
I had the fish fillet bee hoon. Me and fish bones have a long history so I try not to tempt fate. Fish fillets was fried just nice, not overly brown or crispy. Fish meat was firm and tasty, no slimy texture. Noodles nice and plump. But the broth was the best bit. It was not over powering but had the subtle taste. And there was ginger slices! This is all important to me as the ginger compliments the dish and makes it taste nicer.
We also had the teh tarik. At $4 per serve, I expect a mug instead of a cup.
Of course while slurping our food, we also spied on what others were having. It seems like the char kway teow and the cereal prawns were the house favourites. So guess what we are going to try on our next visit?
Service was prompt and efficient. Dishes came out in a timely manner.

My only 2 grumbles are
1- Door needs to have a closing mechanism. During winter with the blustery winds, the cold air just screams in so I was shivering on the left side while the right side of my body was being warmed by the fish fillet broth.
2 - The owner needs to be affirmative to move customers on. I believe that she knew them but for the entire hour that we were there, they occupied a long table with approximately 10 people which took out half the sitting space. I do understand it's the customers pejorative as well but if we did not get a vacant table when we walk in and had to wait an hour for that table to leave, I will have be fuming and this review will never had happened. Again, it's hard when you know your customers personally but I shall leave that for the owner to manage.
So in a nutshell, good food, good pricing. Will revisit to try the other dishes.
PS. if anybody is wondering why is there a bottle of prawn paste by the cutlery, it is for adding to your penang laska. According to the owner, that is supposed to be a traditional condiment to offset the sour taste. I never knew!

We came here on the weekend for lunch and this restaurant is totally packed. We had the Assam laksa, curry laksa and the fried kuey teow. For me, I think the Assam laksa just slightly lack of taste, would prefer it too be a bit stronger like the one I had in Penang. The curry laksa taste average.
The fried kuey teow was absolutely delicious. I really like the Teh Tarik here, not overly sweet and taste perfect. I was excited to find out there sell some kuih here too. The ham chim peng was so tasty, totally reminded me the one I had in Malaysia.

First time we came here. We just googled for a teh tarik after a walk at Shelley's. Omg the food was just so tasteful and portion size was definitely value for money. I'm from Penang so you can rely on my review. Char Koay Teow was amazing and Hor Fun was extremely rich with flavour. We had teh tarik and kopi tarik which came in local kopitiam cup n saucer. Heaven !!!! Oh ya I also Tapau (take away) Mee Goreng n Nasi Goreng for my kids. It's definitely TGIF for us ❤️🫰Terima Kasih

One of the best Chau Kuey Tiaw in Perth with added pork lard and lots of Wok Hei! Nice Curry Mee too with a hint of mint!

The taste of the fried vermicelli with combination of meats and egg sauce was above average. The vermicelli was lightly stirred fried and gave a less roasted smell and taste. The prawns weren't the best but the chicken is very fresh and tasty. (2021-06) Over the years, this restaurant has improved the quality of the food. The helpful and friendly staffs gave us good and quick services. We enjoyed the meals! (2021-04)

Delicious and very affordable dishes from Penang hawker food-Shelley brunch. I like their hor fun ,xo fish wing noodles, and the excellent teh tarik made by Sammy. Is definitely still one of my goto places regardless of trying other places, I find myself coming back.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. This was the best char kwey teow I've had in Perth. Nothing like the colourless tasteless burnt others I've had. This was full of flavour. We had a number of other dishes as well and they were all delicious. The Teh Tarik was strong and served in cute little cups. We will be back, so glad we found this place!

Great Malaysian food and nice ambience. Has a rustic and typical Southeast Asian shophouse vibe. Have a taste of Malaysian food. Come here prepared with cash though as card payments have a small EFTPOS fee. One huge problem I faced was deciding what dish to order from the myriad of choices. One suggestion would be to sell food with an option of a smaller portion so people can order multiple items to satisfy their cravings. Nasi lemak was good and curry was amazing(might be a little spicy for non spice eaters). Cendol was beautifully made although would've appreciated it if it was slightly less sweet. Char Kuey teow was good and has a good amount of wok hei. Yee Mian crispy fried noodles were amazing, unique crunchy and saucy gravy that I've come to love so much. Overall not too bad, coming here almost every other week trying the various food options hence the variety( don't even try to order one of each, they are way to filling to possibly finish more than one) This place never fails to disappoint.

I have been here twice now. Ordered curry mee and black pepper beef. Taste authentic malaysian style of cooking. Food is delicious, friendly and quick service! Great value for money. If i live close by, i will have each of their lunch specials everyday!
