Absolutely fabulous warm as toast cafe with excellent home made delicious food. The smells wafting from this divine cafe are enough to lure any passer by in. We were lucky enough to have beautiful coffee and scones with two different homemade jams and of course cream. We will make sure we pass at lunchtime on our next visit. The owner is lovely, so welcoming too, such a special find!
Beautiful little, local cafe! Fantastic , friendly service with delish food an a nice hot cup of tea to top it all off
Had lunch here last Wednesday; the dining room was clean and tidy, the old building giving the right atmosphere for me to enjoy my pie, salad and excellent coffee within its cool walls on a moderately warm day.
the coffee can be a bit shaky when they're busy but othewise it's good. The food is excellent; particularly the baking. They do a good job with the pies/pasties, including a couple of interesting flavours. The light in the front room(s) is pleasing, but I usually sit outside in the shade
For less than $40 we got three delicious toasties, a slice of cake and two hot drinks. The menu at Thru The Gate takes a unique spin on old favourites using local produce; such as the brie, pear and local bacon toasty. The drinks are interesting too, like the Sicilian orange hot chocolate. The high ceiling building is charming and full of light. If you're passing through Smythesdale and want a delightful lunch, check out Thru The Gate Cafe. Don't blink though, or you'll miss it.
Awesome, cute and bright cafe. We stopped by on a Sunday and loved our Brazilian pulled beef pie, Devonshire tea (raspberry jam), nice coffee and a very nice chai (Prana).
Such a little hidden gem. A very cute fit out with friendly staff and delicious foods. Enjoyed the vegan Chai and they had vegan sour cream too!
Definitely coming back!
Really cute, quaint and warm and inviting cafe in Smythesdale next to the IGA. We didn't eat in, but look forward to it in the future. Devonshire teas, some small savoury items, yummy sweets and lots of other produce and crafts, like chocolate, small hand cloths and chai powder. Very friendly service. Small outdoor courtyard which would be delightful in Spring and Summer.
