It's actually one of the best fish and chips I've ever had.
Extremely busy long weekend and the shop was packed, with lines out the door, so to maintain this level of quality, hats off to them.
Had the family and lunch pack. Slightly price than other fish and chip shops, but the batter was amazing! Super crispy yet it wasn't greasy. Fish was super fresh and cooked to perfection as it wasn't dry.
Chips crispy , potato cakes crispy and dimsims crispy. Everything was well seasoned. If you're down in sorrento, make sure you give this place a visit.
Very busy fish and chip shop. Very flexible on orders great service too.
Got the fisherman’s basket
• Chips - thicker side. Was good
• Sweet Potato Chips - Good too. Crunchy outside soft inside
• Beer Battered Onion Rings - crispy batter. Not bready or like panko crumbed
• Calamari, Scallop and Prawns and fish - Deep Fried to perfection. Batter was crispy and chewy. Seafood was big and fresh
Very good food. The flake and calamari were great. The chips were delicious and tasty! I’d recommend this place for sure. Service was pretty good to.
I’m kinda forgot what type of fish I ordered but they tasted amazing!! They also have a very generous portion of chips, so dont over order guys. Even I only ordered a small size and I cant even finish it. Their price is also pretty reasonable as well. We came here around 3pm on weekdays and it’s pretty full. There’s a wait to get your order ready, so better secure yourself a table
A sign of a great eatery is always patrons flowing out the door. We have eaten here plenty of times over the last few years, the food is always fresh and delicious. We have never been disappointed.
We live local so we always ring and place our order first, avoids wait time.
The beach is a 30 second drive away or a 5 min walk. The perfect summer casual dinner.
Always a great meal at ‘fish fetish’ and in my opinion the best fish and chippery on the peninsula.
The batter on the fish is crunchy and the flake sweet and tasty. Potato cakes taste like the potatoes have just been dug up from the ground, with a beautiful earthiness to them. Again crunchy batter that doesn’t go limp.
This place is extremely busy but works like clockwork and a well oiled machine.
We were given a warm welcoming and great customer service, however because it was very busy, my friends and I were given half an hour to check up on our food. I couldn't blame them, it looked really popular and they had a pretty long line waiting to order.
Although they told us 30 minutes, we had to wait for maybe 50 minutes. We ordered the fisherman's basket for two. Came with a reasonable serving of chips and sauces (tartar and tomato). The prawns that came with the pack tasted very fresh and we were pleasantly surprised that the scallops came with roe which added a creamy and rich flavor . The batter that came with all of this and the fish was nice and crispy, so that made everything taste a lot better.
Apart from that, the calamari tasted as usual and the chips could've used a bit more seasoning. Overall, everything was fairly good, however it wasn't really worth the 50 minute wait. Had we waited a little bit less, it definitely would be worth while going.
DO: The fish and chips obviously. However stand outs were the calamari and dim Sims.
DON'T: Over order as theyre pretty large in size with a huge amount of delicious golden chips
TIP: There will be a bit of a wait still take your time. Try and secure a table first before you order
We had a wonderful lunch in this quirky little eatery on Sorrento's main street. The fish was coated in a light, crisp, but not oily batter and really melted in your mouth, the salad was fresh and delicious and we loved our sweet potato chips. Even though it was really busy (first Monday of school holidays) our food came out in minutes. This was one of the best fish and chips we've had in Australia.
I'm always on the hunt for good fish and chips, and I think I've found it! We had the Fisherman's Basket and absolutely loved it, so much so that we forgot to take pics! Everything tasted really fresh, batter was light golden in colour, i.e. the oil wasn't recycled that much even though it was during a very busy Sunday arvo. Even the potato chips tasted fresh! If only you were not in Sorrento...
Fish Fetish was so popular at 12 noon we continued to shop the Sorrento high street until the crowds died down... that never really happened so queue we did. Quite a varied menu for a fish and chip shop. The interior is eclectic with a lot of random things like old car doors and tree branches all woven into the busy work of the internal store. A manual spindle of tread moves your pegged order from the front of shop to kitchen. All of this added to the quaintness of the place. We ordered grilled snapper with chips and potato cakes. We sat where everyone else did on the box like tables out front with out plastic forks and cardboard and enjoyed the winter sun. I call out the potato cakes as exceptional while chips were quite stumpy suggesting perhaps they were hand cut or at least non frozen. The grilled fish was tender and slightly oily... but a lot less oily that the battered deep fried variety. Enjoyable
The fish was not too fresh and i don't think the fish of the day is flake like other place sell. The batter was crispy on one side only and soggy at the other. Everything else is good. I think you guys need to have a high standard especially during public holiday where customers can be more than usual
Its consistent yummy food. The chips I believe are triple fried. But please have more steam dim sims available, there were none left at 7pm :(
Delicious traditional fish and chips!
This place is our usual stop for lunch everytime we travel to Sorrento. This place is always packed during lunch so you'd be lucky to get a table here.
We usually try and fishermen basket for two which includes most of the items. The fish was moist, tender, and tasted great.
The other seafood item including the prawn, calamari, and scallops were all very fresh and well-salted. The coating was crunchy and not oily at all.
The chips were super crunchy, balanced in the amount of salt, and moist inside. The chips went perfect which the sweet chili aoli, put unfortunately you need to pay $2 for that sauce. Otherwise, tomato sauce and tartare were included for free.
My boyfriend and I got some fish and chips for lunch today to eat by the beach. We ordered 2 x Flakes, small chips, 2 x dim sims, 1 x calamari piece and 2 x potato cakes (which they forgot to give us)
Everything was delicious although a few minor things and they definitely could of been 5 stars.
They forgot our potato cakes for staters - annoying but oh well. The chips needed more salt and the dim sims needed way more soy sauce (there was only like a teaspoon amount on them)
Other than those few things the flake was beautiful and the chips were crunchy and delicious.
Would definitely go back again.
A great location and a great little set up. A good menu with plenty to choose from. We ordered a fisherman's basket and I was happy with the selection. The sweet potato fries are great, especially a hit with the kids! The fish was lightly battered and tasty. We also had a few scallops and prawns and i was happy with both- well cooked with a light batter. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food.
Really just wanted the sweet potatoe fries. But they only came in special orders. Can't order them on their own, even if you offer to pay a little extra.
So ended up getting a pack of grilled fish and salad with a side of sweet potato fries to get my fix. Fries were pretty good, little soggy, but the aioli was the saving grace.
Grilled fish was decent, but nothing super special. Tartae sauce wasn't as good as the aioli.
Place was super busy the whole week we were there and the staff are always under the pump and sometimes it shows on their faces. But they worked hard. Few mistakes were made while we were there, but they always did what they can to fix the issue and make the customer happy.
Maybe I'll check them out again during the off season while most of the tourists are away.
What to Get: Fisherman's Basket - fish of the day, calamari, crab stick, scallop and some fries.
Light, crispy, delicious.

Fish fetish is a cosy location with antique furniture which is a beautiful touch. The owner is warm, welcoming and friendly. We came on a dreary rainy day, and this comfort food just hit the spot. The potato cakes and chips were perfectly cooked. Probably the best I've had. Crispy, fatty and salty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. So much yum, we'll be back.
This super popular establishment serves up some quality grub. The staff are great and the crew cooking in the kitchen work flat out to keep up with the high demand.
During school holidays Fish Fetish run non-stop and the 10-15 minute wait was very reasonable. Our grilled flake was perfect and the chips were also great (small chips is quite big and great value). Sitting out front on the tables supplied, eating lunch in the sun was the perfect way to relax in Sorrento.
I hear the burgers are also top shelf so will be back to find out!
Honestly the best fish and chips I've ever had. Okay, well my partner and I are vegan so we didn't have fish but we were pleasantly surprised to find a vegetarian menu with vegan options included!! We had the chips with potato cakes and veggie dim sims and I'll tell you now, I have never had better. 10/10
Best Fish & Chips we've had in years - Flathead was exceptional, matched the service ! Highly recommend - can't wait to visit Sorrento & enjoy fabulous fish !
This place is great! Fish was fresh and the chips and other seafood items in the seafood pack was very fresh and delicious! The oil used to cook the food wasn't old and recycled! Highly recommend this place! One to dine at when in Sorrento!
Took 10 minutes to cook a small serve of chips at 4:30pm on a quiet Thursday. Once the chips finally arrived, they tasted great. Be aware: No EFTPOS! There's a Westpac and CommBank ATM immediately opposite, NAB 150m down the street.
Visited during the recent summer/peak period in Sorrento. Hit it about 2pm so avoided the peak. Still had to wait a little while but were clearly warned before we paid so we were well prepared. Good prices give that everything else is overly inflated in Sorrento.
Yum! Fishermans basket was great, fish of the day which was Blue Grenadier, scallops, prawns, calamari and chips. All really good and priced ok for Sorrento. Loads working there so pretty efficient. Certainly one of the best fish and chip shops even compared to Melbourne.
Best fish and chips in Melbourne, hands down!
Fish is super fresh, batter is always crispy, as are their chips. Every last one of them!
A bit pricey, but a couple of flakes and minimum chips is heaps for a two person feed.
It can get crazy-busy so ditch waiting for an outside table and instead, phone ahead your order. Grab a cold craft beer from the local bottle shop and head to the Back Beach Carpark for one of the best dinners of your life! Sunset is free of charge.
This place is always pack of people queuing to order as well as queuing to get a table as the seats are extremely limited. They sell fish and chips, but is in good quality. Always one of the best food in sorrento.
This is our fav New Year's Day lunch spot and have been coming here for over 5 years. It is well worth the drive tho. The chips are always perfectly cooked as is the fish. For Sorrento it is also surprisingly well priced.
The only thing worth remembering is that it gets extremely busy and there isn't really much space to sit down. U need to be quick and swoop on the tables as soon as they become free.
Super Crunchy Chips & Yummy Hamburgers (but expect to wait 15-20 mins for food during peak Summer time)
The chips were unnaturally but deliciously crunchy albeit oilier than other chips. Jamie Oliver says that lard is usually used to make a chip crunchier but the chips were definitely not fried in lard - not sure what their secret is...
We also ordered the hamburger with the lot which was very good. In particular, the bun was real bread, not the processed, over sweet, white bread and the patty was thick and tasty with generous fillings.
We were there during peak Summer period so do expect to wait for 15-20 mins. If you have kids, it would be advisable to eat earlier to avoid the lunchtime rush. It appears that Fish Fetish is the only fish n chip shop in Sorrento (or at least, on the main strip?). This would explain the long delays for food. I don't know why there is only one fish n chip shop on Sorrento. If you go to Phillip Island, they have 5 fish n chip shops alone plus lots more...
HUGE servings. A single pack is way too much for a person to finish! The photos do not do it justice - there is a whole mound of chips hiding underneath the fish. The chips were pretty good. They had a nice crunch to them and were not overly greasy at all.
Nice fish and chip shop. It was a busy sunny Sunday and our order took about 10 minutes to receive as we were advised by the staff. There's hardly any waiting room in the store, so the waiting part isn't a great experience. The grilled flake was yummy, the chips were crispy on the outside and soft and creamy in the middle, and I appreciate the homemade potato cakes! Small chips are more than enough enough for 2 people.
Excellent fish and chips!
Previously Sorrento had 3 fish and chip shops, however now there is one, and gosh it's fantastic! The chips are crunchy not oily, the fish is perfect, and the skewers are beyond belief. Summer will see you waiting well over an hour, this won't deter you if you've had them in the past, more staff than you could poke a stick at because the demand is so high, it's worth it!
Gluten Free - Place you can trust !. Thank you so much for taking so much care in cooking and packing our order that contained Gluten Free fish and chip as well as non Gluten Free items. It is so good to find a place that the staff that take the order understand the importance of cooking and packing foods separately, my 4 year old was excited to be able to have fish and chips with the family, and not be vomiting after it.
Thanks we will be back!
Easter Weekend 2015
Best Fish and chips on the peninsula!
Loved fish fetish for a great lunch, great casual setting and beautiful fresh fish!
The souvlaki's are also amazing
Must visit on a trip to Sorrento
I'm a local on the Mornington peninsula and there are hundreds of fish and chip shops to try, I can 100% say these are the best fish and chips I have ever had. No question about it. Everything was fresh, and most of it is homemade. The batter was amazing. Love love love!!
This is the worlds best fish & chips. My partner & I can't go any where else after trying this place. The chips are super crunchy
Great FnC!. Great service, awesome chips and excellent value! Even though I stay in Rye, the drive to Sorrento is well worth it to get food from Fish Fetish.
Quick fix for your craving of Fish & Chips. The title says it all. I don't see what's so bad about this place. The prices are relatively cheap and also the fish & chips were pretty good. A would have to agree it's a little greasy and all but after all it is... fish and chips.. unless you're getting battered fish or crumbed.
We had really great fish n chips here tonight. It was cooked to perfection, crispy everything, nice & hot, and thankfully the batter isn't flavoured any more. It all tasted fresh and exactly as good fish n chips should. Great, friendly, accommodating service.
Not fishy at all!. Walking into this joint, you are made to feel as though you are walking into an authentic beach shack with the rustic décor. Though the décor isn't the only thing to get excited about since the fish and chips are so awesome that it is definitely worth the trip up there even if you live on the other side of Melbourne. At first, the prices seemed quite high for your everyday fish and chips but once the order came out I realised that it was quite an inexpensive meal. A $15 meal consisting of a crunchy batter-coated snapper and medium chips fed 2 people. We even had left-over chips. Next time, we might just order the small chips since they give you a large portion of chips. A tub of tomato sauce is $2, which I would normally think is ridiculously expensive though it is a substantial amount and you can't have chips without any sauce. Though, if you are thinking of saving some money up there you should probably bring your own bottle of tomato sauce. The fish and chips, combined with the breath-taking scenery of the clear blue ocean waters was undoubtedly an experience worth travelling for.
Just simply amazing! Best fish & chips I've had! The service was great and very fast. Food came out in 10 minutes and it was a busy period for them as well. Highly recommended
Great place for a quality fish n chips experience! As others have mentioned, the prices are higher than others in the vicinity but you are seriously wasting your time going anywhere else. This place does top notch Fish n Chips with decent portions; exactly what you would hope for when exploring the sights of Sorrento. It wasn't overly busy so wait times were short and oil was very fresh; the experience might be different at peak times, but I'd bet against it. Do yourself a favour, hit up Fish Fetish!
Why wouldn't you like it???. What do you look for in a good fish and chip shop?
*crunchy chips-check
*decent sized fish that is cooked to perfection -check
*potato cake that is crunchy on the outside and cooked well on the inside-check
*good dipping sauce -check
*not too pricey-check (I don't know about you but when I get fish and chips if it's good then I will pay that little bit more.)
In my view you are onto a winner with this place!
Terrific Chips. Great vibe, friendly staff, excellent fish & chips and everything else that goes with them. Will definitely recommend as the place to get top quality seafood and chips.
The best fish n chips around here, but be prepared to wait for the best as they 're flat out in peak season.
Been going here for years and it is consistently the best quality f&c on the Penninsula.
Great place for fish and chips, really nice staff!
Upon reading some of the reviews we decided to take a punt on fish fetish... And soooo glad we did. Amazing light crispy chips, the burgers in sour dough buns were fresh and light, the fish was battered to perfection and cooked lovely. All and all loved it!!! Best I have had in a long long time!
No lemon!. I love good fish & chips, but one thing that really annoys me is when you open it up and discover there is not one wedge of lemon inside the pack.
I have got into the habit of asking to make sure places put a wedge or two of lemon in before I leave with my order, but forgot this time and paid for it by ending up with no lemon to put on my fish (or scallops or prawns!).
Apart from that, the fish & chips is still good at Fish Fetish. Not sure but I think it may be under new management too.
Fantastic Fresh Fish. We stayed in Sorrento for two nights and ended up eating here both days. The fish (we tried schnapper and barramundi) was fresh, the batter light and crispy, and the chips were top quality. It is on the pricey side, but the line-up spilling out onto the street every evening is testament to how good the food is.
The beef burger was average - stick to what they do best.
Excellent in quality and quantity. Worth the wait for crunchy chips and battered fish with perfect amount of seasoning. Friendly staff and well priced, no wonder it gets so busy!
Incredible. Went back the day after to have it again. Incredibly fresh fish, batter was perfect, scallops and calamari heavenly. Would go twice a week if I lived there. I have no idea what other people are complaining about - our experience was nothing short of delicious.
