Little Picky Very Hungry

Located only 5 minutes walking distance from South Yarra station 🚃 The bistro was a pop-up store before opening in the $800 million Capitol Grand development on Chapel St last November.

Head chef Stephen Nairn had some impressive experiences under his belt, such as Vue de Monde and New York’s 3 Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park. The unique menu focuses on European flavours and technique, elegant interior by @architectseat and @curious_by_design .

For starters, OCEAN TROUT CIGAR (EA $9) creme fraiche-bound tuna sashimi cannoli 🐟 👆🏻a lovely savoury finger food. CHICKEN LIVER PARFAIT ($22) topped with ruby port glaze, pear & lemon thyme was amazing. A creamy and smooth texture smeared on the freshly baked brioche left a sweet and smoky bacon taste on my tongue 🐷👅Not a big fan of liver personally, but this one made me order extra Parker roll ($6) to go with it tells you something.
.
Needless to say, the HONEY ROASTED DUCK FOR TWO ($98), CONFIT LEG & DUCK JUS 🍯🐤 is a MUST order dish. The duck dry-aged for 14 days and glazed with honey was juicy and super tender, although some parts were slightly raw. We asked the staff and he said it was meant to be this way 😯🤷🏻♂️ So prepare yourself! Confit legs with a satisfyingly crispy exterior, a pretty generous serving size for 2.

OMNIA RATATOUILLE ($24) - a vegetable stew consisting of eggplant, zucchini, capsicum and tomato. To go along with the duck. This was my first try, it was really healthy but I found it a bit sour for my liking🍅🥒🍆.
.
Desserts by Pastry chef John Demetrios (ex Vue de Monde), we got the LIQUID CENTRE CHEESECAKE WITH BLACKBERRY SORBET ($18) to share🤩. Def the next instagrammable dessert to up your feed📲, it looks like a melted wheel of cheesecake with caramelised sugar on top. Silky smooth and soft, a bit too sweet but the sorbet balanced out the sweetness perfectly. A nice treat to end the evening 🧀🧀🌛.
.
For drinks, A refreshing LEMON MYRTLE GIMLET COCKTAIL ($21) 🍋 Service-wise, the staff were not very enthusiastic while serving. They don’t seem to bother to have a chat with you or ask how we were going. Well, at least they gave a complimentary chocolate for the birthday boy 🤷🏻♂️.
The food here is absolutely amazing. Each course we ordered was delicious, from the oysters to the duck (super tasty - the best duck I have ever had) to the dessert which we almost ordered one of each on the menu. The wine list was also full of amazing wines. The inside decor is also a feature. My only complaint is that the service when they got busy started to deteriorate. We were left sitting for 15 -20mins after finishing out dessert with our plates there hoping to order a coffee but ended up just paying the bill as no one came up to us as they were to busy and clearly a bit understaffed in the floor.
Having a restaurant literally now on my doorstep is FABULOUS. Especially when food and service are top notch.
The interior feels very TriBeCa NYC with amazing artwork by the resident artist David Bromley with gorgeous greenery and a mirrored ceiling. It’s truly a magical space.
I’ve been twice in a week and to me, the standout is the wine list and the zucchini flowers. They have this olive and mint sauce on them that I can’t get enough of.
We’ve had the meatballs, steak, goat cheese ravioli and all were nice.
Next time I’ll be getting the duck. I saw it come out and had some serious food envy.
All I can say is if they do a boozy brunch I’d so be there as the interior and vibe is so much fun and full of life.
Can’t wait to come back again ASAP!
