Review Pho Hung - Southport

Probably the most authentic pho on the GC. I go there planning to try something else but always end up ordering the pho with rare beef and meat ball just because I know how good it is... However the service is below par and can be very slow. I have waited for 30 min for a bowl of pho (usually <10 min in most other places for pho). One time when I asked about it, their reason was that there was a table of 8 people that had ordered beforehand and had to be served first. Ok, but this is one table in a restaurant with around 20 tables and 100 seats and it was all empty other than us... I don't buy their excuse, and an apology would have been appreciated.

Nice Pho at a great price. The soup is not too heavy and pass my MSG test. I usually get very thirsty after I eat Pho with lots of MSG. But this time, I don't feel any thirst at all. I waited a bit longer than usual for the food but it is worth it. I love their beef brisket is tender and as tough as other Pho place. The noodles are silky smooth. My kids love it. The place is very spacious, my pram can easily park next to the table.

Best pho on the coast. I really love the quality of the rice noodle, and they served it always with basil and beans sprout and I could tasted the freshness of the noodle how silky smooth it is ...Some restaurant they swap basil with some other herbs and they used dried noodle instead of fresh noodle. I don't understand why they need to close down and I hope one day I will be informed whenever they decide to restart the business again...

Very very bad experience. Don't recommend especially for group booking Staff super rude especially the short girl who worked as a cashier. She doesn't care about the clients and the business by telling us that she doesn't care if we don't come back when I tried to tell her that the food is nice but her attitude is rude. We have a group of more than 50 people and will have more groups coming. First unpleasant experience in Austria and feeling so bad about the owner of the restaurant having a staff like this. Btw, she is super cold from the beginning and worse at the end.

We went last Monday night with 15 people for a 70th birthday. Be very careful of hidden cost. all sauces were charged at $1, corkage for beer even @3$ and even charged 15$ to bring the cake out and give us plates. 50c for takeaway containers. Food delivered at all random times. Watch your bill at the end.

The best Vietnamese food we've had ever! Excellent staff with good menu knowledge, extensive menu and super delicious food. Will definitely go back! We ordered wonton soup entree, spring roll salad and pork vermicelli roll ups. Soooo goood !!!!

Appalled at terrible service, went on a public holiday and the restaurant wasn’t even full, and despite this the food was taking forever to come out. While waiting for our food to arrive we saw 3 other tables that arrived AFTER us get all of their dishes. When we asked the waiter he said it would be another 10-15 minutes, then went and asked the kitchen and came back to tell us it’d be another 2-3 more minutes. But after 2-3 minutes we still didn’t have our food. When we asked the other waitstaff they all explained that something about one of the dishes we ordered was taking particularly long to prepare. None of them bothered to come and explain to us why this was the case until we had to go and ask them, while everyone else around us was getting their food. We left after waiting for almost an hour without getting our food. Could really improve on their communication/service

Crispy chicken with tomato rice for $14.90 although sounds delicious you actually end up with a rather small portion of mystery meat with bits of spine in it that looks like it's been left in the sun for 2 days, and some incredibly dry rice that's oily and tastes nothing like tomato. Will also give you a violent bout of food poisoning.

Big restaurant.
Unfortunately customer service is very poor and staff were very rude.
Also got gastro after eating there. Haven’t been back as I am unsatisfied with their service.
Fishing on the beach at Surfers Paradise till 7pm tonight and I am feeling the cold. I decide on a bowl of hot soup noodles at Pho Hung. I order the Combination Pho Dac Biet ($13.80) with extra meat ($3).

Seeing the large serve of fresh salad and herbs I know this Chef will serve me a quality Beef Pho. I wait over 20 minutes for my order. Finally, my meal is served steaming hot and I quickly add the sprouts, basil, chilli and lemon juice. The soup is very good, hot and flavoursome and the silky smooth noodles are delicious. There is a large serve of sliced beef, raw beef, beef balls and beef tendon. No beef tripe. The raw beef is very fresh and tender.

This is a quality Beef Pho and my big appetite is sated. I rate it 4.5/5.0! Thank you Pho Hung!

Terrible food. Got sick from the pho from this place. Extremely rude service. Thank god for my saigon tuckshop! Which has great viet food mates.

2 stars for the food, as the rare beef pho and the broken rice with grilled chicken was pretty good. However, waiting for over 30 mins for the takeaway order is just way too long, especially since the pho comprised of a bag of rare beef, and a container of rice noodles that I had to assemble by putting into the soup myself! Was not impressed that the staff kept telling us the order would be ready in 5 mins, when in fact, they did not start 'cooking' the order until we told them it was too long and we wanted to cancel the order. We prefer honesty.

Surprisingly this restaurant is quite good. Their ‘pho’ (beef noodle soup) is pretty good and authentic. The noodles portion is a bit small. Their rice dishes are not bad either.
The smoothies are not that great, so just stick to the pho.

The place is quite clean for an asian eatery. I gave an extra half star for cleanliness of the toilet ;)

Lovely place that I've been coming to every time that I visit the Goldie since the min 1990s when it was first the ambitious Saigon Palace. Changed hands at least 3 times that I can tell, but the food concept remains the same, old school Vietnamese done well with a lot of variety (much more than most). Prices are very remain reasonable and most likely the best Vietnamese that you'll find on the coast. Be glad that such variety can still be found when most Vietnamese now specialize in Pho, would give it 4.5 if they still had bun rieu and if the staff were a little more attentive.

Amazing authentic food just as good as Melbourne Vietnamese I love coming here. Pho and rice paper rolls roll are my favourite, it would be great if you were on UberEATS or something

We went about 20 minutes before closing down with pram, and they facilitated our visit with open arms.
- location was great, plenty of parking
- environment was also great. Which is a suprise for a traditional pho resturant that just comes with the expectation that hygene will be sacrifised for taste. Happy to report this was not the case.
- plenty of space for pram and us.
- staff was super helpful and friendly, probably some of the best customer service experiences. This is also not a usual trait for a pho specialised restaurant.

Rare beef with beef balls
- was very sceptic of the thicker noodles. But they pulled it off. It was delicious and fast. And we wemt 20 min@utes before closure time.

rare beef beef pho ordered by wife was also delicious.

Milk tea was also delicious. And by far one of the bests we tried. + COKE.

All that for about $ 27.

Defs recommend!

This is our regular go to Vietnamese place on the GC. I think it's the best one on the GC having eaten at all of them at some stage. Being originally from Sydney and being Vietnamese, I would like to think I am well qualified to comment on Vietnamese food. I would like more noodles in the noodle soups that they serve but that's only if I'm really critical. The family and I love it here and the quality is always consistently high. This is probably why we keep coming back.

Stopped here for lunch after a day out on the beach. The Pho was surprisingly good. It's is nicely flavoured but no too heavy. The serving size is really big so it compensate the price they charge.

Really Delicious Pho! I used to frequent this place when it was Saigon palace but it has now changed hands and it is even better. The Pho was delicious with a delicate broth and not too oily. I also had the spring rolls and they were deliciously fresh. The only down fall is that it is a little slow, so if you are in a hurry either pre order or allow 20 mins minimum. I would definitely recommend this place though. Yum!

Very authentic and delicious Vietnamese food! Best on the Gold Coast. I highly recommend trying this restaurant out...you won't be disappointed!

There’s nothing like tucking into some good Vietnamese food that reminds you of food from home when you are in a faraway place like Queensland. And by home, I mean Springvale. When my family and I were up on the Gold Coast, breakfast was a conglomeration of leftovers, while deciding what to have for dinner was always a tricky affair. Luckily, we were able to find a nice Vietnamese restaurant close by to where we were staying and when the craving something that resembled for home cooked food was strong, we would stumble into Pho Hung.

This place used to be really good when it was called Saigon Palace... before new management took over! The new renovations in the restaurant really gave it a modern look but too bad I can't really say much nice things about the new menu. I used to love ordering their wonton and bbq pork rice noodle soup and also their bbq duck... but now everything just tastes bland and boring. The new staff are nice but don't always get your order correctly and the service is always terribly slow.

I have been driving passed this restaurant for last 10 years, never thought to come in for some reasons. But I think I will start coming from now on. First visit few weeks ago with a friend, Second time here today and just
had a special beef noodle , very nice! It exceeds my expectations. Restaurant is clean and tidy, staff is friendly and attentive, price is reasonable, beef noodle soup is yummy! Will come again!
P/S. They close at 10pm!

Ordered deep fired flounder & I couldn't eat it. It was over cooked & covered in an awful crust/batter like thing. They insisted I had to pay for it as "that is how it is served". I almost never send send food back as I'm a chef & I appreciate how difficult it is to make money in this industry. I offered to pay half the bill too. Pretty disappointed.

Think again!. The first two occasions I ordered food I was delighted . Now the rice and noodle dishes are loaded with the aforementioned and offer tiny quantities of meat and veg. The soups the same. So if u like large servings of carbs for $15+ enjoy! Otherwise give them a miss

Fantastic traditional vietnamese cuisine. The hardest part was deciding on what to have. The pho was amazing and the coleslaw to die for. This will be our new local place to dine.
