Great variety, not just fish and chips, plenty more, check them out, and very friendly too, just the place for a take away meal 😃👍

Called in for a quick bite. Shop was about to close but staff were very accommodating . Presentation of the shop was impeccable . Simple menu with enough choices. Flake was fresh, perfectly battered and crisp. potato cakes are the best I have had fish & chip. I will coming back. Thanks guys.

The fish and chips were pretty decent, fresh and tasty and while a little higher priced than other fish and chip stores, it would have been worth it. The let down was the cash only payment, forcing you to withdraw using the ATM machine in the store which has a $3 surcharge. Essentially this bumps your already pricey for fish and chip meal another $3 and this left a nasty taste in my mouth after. I mean, you could be prepared and bring cash here when you're looking to grab a quick meal, but it would also be easier to keep driving 30 seconds to grab a meal from any of the other fast food restaurants down the road without this issue. I likely won't be back.

Best fish & chip shop I've experienced in a very, very long time. Everything is home made & cooked fresh to order. Not greasy at all and very tasty too!

100% best fish and chips shop I know! Especially gluten free! Tastes so normal it worried me at first! But I feel fine after so it must be! Would definitely recommend here for my mates. Will be back. Reasonably priced. Very happy. The wait for gluten free needs to be improved though! Waited 35 minutes. But was worth it! Even gave me a extra flake for waiting! Lovely workers and service. Clean place!

Sorry to say, but these FnC’s are ordinary at best. Don’t understand the reviews. Either these people are relatives or they’ve never had really exceptional fish n chips before to compare. Soggy chips and fish batter. Not enough crispiness. Greasy. Another disappointment added to the list of unimpressive places to eat in Mulgrave.

This family run fish and chip shop is the best!! You can definitely tell it’s all home made and lots of love goes into all the food, it’s all fresh and simple and delicious!! The souvlaki meat was exceptional and the customer service is amazing will be back to feast on the other stuff on the menu. Great work guys you should be proud

Best fish and chip shop I've been to, let alone gluten free! The gluten free options are huge, and on par (if not better than) the standard menu. Always cooked extra crunchy the way we love it #addicted

We drove half an hour to try this place. It was worth the drive and we will definitely be back again! My son was so happy to be able to eat something other than just chips thanks to the extensive gluten free menu. Can't wait to try a souvlaki next time!

The souvlakis are amazing!! The meat is so juicy and full of flavour. The chips are cooked to perfection with a beautiful crunch. Such an amazing place. Great to see the photos on the walls as well of the owner catching fish with his family. Such pride in his shop and food and always clean. The best fish and chips / souvlakis in Melbourne. If I could eat here everyday I would. Great job guys, keep it up.

We live a bit further up the hill and there are 3 fish and chip shops between Mako and our home - but we love the service and the food and happy to go that extra k or so - love Mako and give them a vote

Had Mako's last night and as always it was absolutely delicious! Seriously addicted to the calamari and onion rings - they are the best I've ever tasted, and keep me coming back every week. Best value for money, and so happy they do gluten free for my friends that need it :)

quality chips of biblical proportions! 40 days and 40 nights Noah spent on his arc. and it would of been hell not being able to get his friday fish and chips in at makos!.

Okay fish and chips. A little overcooked but generally alright. Servings could be bigger. Maybe was just the time I ordered for takeaway. Willing to try again.

Yes yes yes the original owners are back and the quality is 100% This shop has had a few different owners but nothing beats the original and best the guys are so friendly and I highly recommend this fish and chip shop
Horrible!!
Had grilled fish which was cold and oily, it shouldn't be that oily if it's grilled
Got a Greek salad which was literally just shredded lettuce with a tiny bit of red onion. Nothing else!
Called them back to complain and the owner asked me to explain to him how to make a Greek salad so he could write it down and make it better next time.
Wouldn't offer a refund or a substitute for some shredded lettuce that we paid $4 for!
Chips were average nothing amazing. Dim sums were actually ok probably the only thing worth eating...
Give it a miss you'll be better off

This place is not the best. They didn't understand a simply offer of chips and lamb ended up with something random =( the food was okay but not worth the money.

Interesting review to do. I use to come here for lunch a long time ago. Memories came back so I thought why not. I must say I only buy burgers. I also must say I can not falter what they do! Fresh ingredients, good quality! Nailed it. Last time beef was awful:( won’t be back

Last 5 years the food has always been great here. I'm not a big fan of chips or a lot of friend things but everything else here is fantastic including their charcoal spit meat.
Cheeseburger Anyone? "Where's The Sauce"?
Used to come here all the time about 8 years ago i would say....
Was run by greeks and quality and quantity was spot on! Used to always buy their chips for family parties for the kids (and me). $10 worth and you would get 2 massive box fulls! Came here after so long, greeks are gone and for $10 i got stuff all! Probably worth minumun chips? $ 4.50 worth.... 2 small boxes and not even full.. was so disappointed as the chips were still very good! Soft center with a salty crunchy outside. There wasnt enough for everyone like there used to be. What a shame.. its just chips right? There not expensive so why be cheap and reduce quantity?
Disappointing.

Delicious fish & chips. These probably have to be the
best fish & chips I’ve had in Melbourne. Everything is super crunchy and
crispy. Good potato cakes, battered sausages, good everything. Fast, friendly
service with really good prices. Never had an order messed up, highly
recommended. Only downfall is the limited car parking outside the shop.

Cleanliness of the restaurant – 8/10

Cleanliness of plates/cutlery/glasses – n/a

Cleanliness of the menus – n/a

Service – 9/10

Wait time for food - short

Food overall – 9/10

Ambience – n/a

Value for money – 8.5/10

Best Souvas around for miles. Captain Mako makes the best Souvas around for miles - the free prawn crackers on the counter are a bonus - chips are delicious with the option of chicken salt - I look forward to my weekly Souva and think its delicious.

Disappointing after reading a review which praised the food there. The fish was nice, but the chips, potato cakes and scallops were soggy and you could taste the oil which left a bad taste in your mouth. Not good for a food place. The opinion was unanimous amongst the three of us that shared the meal.
