By far the best pizza restaurant I have been to. The food is to die for, especially the arancini, calamari and Ronny J pizza. I love the vibe of the place - casual, funky and cozy! The staff are amazing and a special shout out to the head waitress’s Rose. She always ensures our experience is 10/10. I come here at least 2-3 times a month.
Great day to have mothers day lunch loved everything about the place great food great views and comfortable atmosphere best restaurant i have visited in my life the place was picture postcard five stars all the way
What a great place to eat, friendly people and great food, would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Was driving past with the family. Caught my eye. Done a u turn and sat down for dinner. Awesome Pizzas, awesome staff and best atmosphere. Highly recommend to all and will be coming back quite often now. Thanks guys
Absolutely amazing ! The staff were lovely and our waitress was really good the food was to die for and reasonably priced ,we'll be back .
Best place best food best atmosphere best staff
Had the Tropical Melbourne pizza, a new take on the traditional hawaiian pizza. Very tasty pizza base with whole pineapple pieces imbedded in the base, topped with ham off the bone and cheese. Delicious
Stunning burger and wicked pizza. Yes I had both
Would like to see the evening menu or an indication of what could be on offer.
But great quality food. Pride in their cooking
One of my Favorite places. The coffee is good and love the sourdough brekky pizza.
The salt crusted in house baked bread is fantastic with the antipasto platter and the house Pino is a great accompaniment.
The best pizzas I have tried...staff members so lovely and polite...definitely going back...thank you...
This has to be my favourite place in Melbourne for dinner. Relaxed, friendly, delicious food, good beers and sitting outside under the stars with a brazier to keep you warm in winter... this is one of the great secrets in Melbourne- please don't tell anyone.
Stopped for lunch on a Sunday drive, arancini and pizza were delicious, service was great, apple crumble was average! We shall definitely return, was a fun place.
Great pizza and the hamburger was the best l have ever had , nice vibe here will bd back

It's not my first visit but first for 2020. A Boy Named Sue has been around for a while and I've always found it a quaint place that blends in with the environment of St. Andrews. It's hippie. It's quirky. It's a nice place to just sit and enjoy a Saturday morning market unfold on a Saturday. From your seat outdoors, you can smell the incense wafting over from the market, the sound of the motorcyclists postering as they come through town, or the click black of the lycra clad cyclists as they madke their way to ABNS for their coffee fix.
The menu is good and has something for everyone, particularly vegetarians and vegans are catered for well. I had the breakfast bowl of fruit and home made muesli with natural yoghurt. A good portion size making it a nice healthy start to the day.
My daughter had the sour dough with poached eggs and added a site of avocado and feta. Another good portion size, but perhaps a little too much feta. Her friend had the 'Suck Eggs" which consisted of 2 poached eggs in a cup with sour dough soldiers, garlic & chilli oil and goat cheese with maple coated bourcher bacon steak. The goats cheese was amazing but the eggs a little undercooked.
Latte, chai latte and iced latte were all good although once again, part of the order was forgotton.
Prices are reasonable. Staff are friendly and very helpful even if they did forget something. Apologetic and quick to get it on the table. Did look at the breakfast pizza someone was having on another table and it looked awesome - that's on my hit list for next time.
Note: not really wheelchair friendly. Definitely kid friendly. Parking can be a challenge ona market day.
Mary had a little Lamb, Prushoto. Expensive but worth it. PS self reminder water is warm & make sure my lips dont bleed.
Antipasto plate ($24)
The fun guy ($24.50)
Up there caprese ($26)
Broccolini bowl ($14.50)
Overall ⭐️ 5/5 ⭐️
🍴Really delicious food at this cosy restaurant that we chanced upon after visiting #omarualpacafarm . We enjoyed every dish and had no complaints. The #antipastoplate was a generous serving of meats, cheese (loved the soft mozzarella) & pickles. The salty meat, sour pickes, fresh cheese, and crisp bread went well together. Their pizzas were also great and we all enjoyed the fun guy mushroom pizza that was a flavourful mix of various mushrooms with thyme and garlic. The #uptherecaprese had tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and herb salad and was more refreshing in nature. The #broccolini bowl was well-executed in flavour with the brocolloni paired well with Parmesan, chilli, and walnuts. All in all a great experience and would visit if I was ever in the area again

In St Andrews, it's a bit of a hike to get there, but it's a nice start before going to the St Andrews market. The coffee is great, balanced. It's better than so many places that tout themselves as specialty coffee, because at the end of the day, most people just want a balanced coffee.Breakfast isn't the most amazing breakfast you'll have, but it's not bad. Would regularly return.
My fiance and I love this place. It's a great quaint place that you can enjoy eating outside in the nice weather and enjoy your surroundings. Great pizzas and yummy sticky date pudding! We love love love it!
I’m a large Johnny Cash fan. I’m not fat but like I’m a big fan of him. (But to be honest I could probably lose a few kgs) I’ve been here a few times and it’s heaps good as. This is a photo of a burger I had there. It was so great I just wish I could eat it again but that would be disgusting.
My boyfriend and I stopped by here on our way to Kinglake. Both of us had the cheeseburger which was really tasty. I wasn’t a huge fan of the fries, I felt they were a bit dry (the accompanying sauce wasn’t my cup of tea either).
However, lovely cafe in a beautiful setting. Really enjoyed sitting outside in the sun.
A Boy named Sue is a Pizzeria and cafe in the lovely treed rural township of St Andrews. I noticed it while heading to the St Andrew’s market, and it was open for breakfast, so naturally I had to check it out. The building appears to be an original early 20th century structure, refitted for its current use, but retaining its rustic charm. Inside its large gable roof sports exposed beams, and a whitewashed stone wall and paved brick floor complete the effect. A large open kitchen extends along the length of the dining space, large windows grace the facade, and a terraced area provides sheltered outdoor tables. The settings comprise timber tables and plush antique upholstered chairs in burgundy. Some appropriate folksy music played in the background, and it was warm and cosy on what was a cold winter morning. The brunch menu was interesting, with some unusual fare such as breakfast pizzas, and squash, pea and quinoa fritters which was my selection that morning, sans eggs. It was tasty and filling, and the coffee was also very good. It is evident that local produce is used wherever possible. The pizza menu also had some different takes on your standard pizza variety, and vegan cheese is available for all pizzas. I found the service cheerful and relaxed, and they happily accommodated my menu variation. A pleasant dining experience, and a breakfast that hit the spot before my visit to the market across the road.
A Boy Named sue
Upon discovering A Boy Named Sue a few years ago, I fell in love. In love with the vibes, the area and more than anything, the best pizza I've ever laid tastebuds on!
Not being from the area, a trip there would be once in a blue moon. It had been quite a while since my last visit, but I finally made my way back for another slice of heaven! I do feel as though the quality of the pizza has dropped, and there was a slight sweetness to the sauce, which I'm personally not a fan of, but still amazing pizza. Our jug of water was full of floaties which was quite off-putting. But oh boy, do they do a good arancini. Those crispy balls of cheesy goodness are what A Boy Named Sue is all about for me now!
Have come here for dinner with friends multiple times and come for breakfast regularly. The food is so fantastic and fresh. The antipasto platter is fantastic and good value. Pizzas are awesome and the sticky date is the best I have ever had. The breakfast pizza is awesome. Worth the trip out to St Andrews especially on Saturday mornings for the market. It's a lovely atmosphere.

What an awesome little place. Great atmosphere, friendly hip staff, great craft beer and really tasty Pizzas.
Ordered Mary had a little lamb and prawn Fraser with prosciutto on a gluten free base
I’m about to make a big call but I stand behind it 100%.
BEST Gluten free pizza EVER!
Ahh the pizza full of puns. A creative and vibrant restaurant with a breathtaking scenery. With it’s funky named pizzas it is a real treasure in Hurstbridge. My selections included the Italian stallion, Ronny J and Mary had a little lamb. I would have like to see the dough/crust a bit softer and fluffier but that is my personal preference.
Best pizza we've ever had!
The restaurant is small and cosy, interesting music playing in the background and an open kitchen area so you can see the pizza oven cooking the pizzas and throwing some heat into the room.
We had a garlic focaccia to start and the prawn pizza which was by far the best pizza I've ever had!
Would have given a 5 star review on the food alone
However table service wasn't the greatest, we waited a good 20 minutes just for our drinks to come out although our food wasn't a long wait. Most people had to sit down with the remainders of the people dining before them and were adding to the pile with their own plates and cutlery.
Would have been a perfect dining experience with better table service but don't let it put you off! I will of course be coming back for the amazing pizzas and friendly staff!
My visit here was a long time in the making. Although this time it was a a random visit after a visit to St.Andrews Market. It was a lovely sunny arvo yet we couldn't manage a table outside to enjoy it. So we sat inside and ordered a brekky pizza and a prawn pizza . They were pretty tasty although my crust was burnt pretty badly I still enjoyed it. The thing that bugged me most was the amount of wasps hovering around us whilst we ate AND we were inside. I'll come back for dinner next time.
First of all, St Amdrews has never even been on my radar for food (I only happened on the place by accident!) secondly I'm a sucker for good architecture (in this case beautifully crafted mud brick buildings with expansive glass doors - yes a whole complex of them making you feel like you're in a piece of Europe).
A Boy Named Sue is, not only a great Johny Cash song, but it would seem a great cafe in the artsy area of St Andrews! We enjoyed a selection of pizzas (the violet one was garnished with actual violet flowers) and the margarita was Devine! All on GF bases (fantastic) or coffees were missed in the orders, not a problem, once we reminded our waiter we got a heart felt apology, they covered the coffees for us and we were promptly served. It's worth a trip out just for this place!
This was possibly the best pizza I've ever had. As well as amazing food, the staff were wonderful and so happy, and the vibe was great! I also loved that we could see our pizzas being made, and from where we were sitting we could see right into the pizza oven. Well worth the drive, I'll definitely be coming back :)
Went here for the third time. The food, as always, was tasty and fresh and the setting is always cool. However, the service was totally amateurish. I don't think the wait-staff were intentionally unhelpful but they need training. Some pointers to the owners: when someone orders a soy based drink, it's because they can't drink milk, so make sure wait-staff pay attention; meals for a table of four should be timed to serve within a few minutes of each other, not 20 minutes apart; when something isn't available on the menu, wait-staff should know that at time of collecting orders. Fortunately, the food made up for the incompetence. Delicious skinless sausages in tomato based sauce; breakfast pizza was sublime.

Very nice breakfast! We came here on a Saturday morning and the place was very busy. It has a old country feel to it; very homely! We had the poached eggs and fetta in a cup and the breakky pizza. Eggs cooked to perfection and pizza crust was chewy and had a nice texture! Staff were friendly despite the business.
These pizzas are some of the best pizza I've had. If your into a nice thin based pizza and fresh ingredients on your pizza this is the place. Lovely staff and a great atmosphere all tucked away up in the bush!
Moving from the heart of hipsterville to the suburbs had been a bit of an issue for me, but boy did I feel at home driving 20 mins from Warrandyte to St Andrews to have breakfast at A Boy Named Sue. The whole feel of the place feels like a bit of Smith St in the middle of the country. To top it off I chose the brekky pizza with a long black and both were superb. Chili olive oil on the table setting genius - but could've been slightly more fiery! Will definitely make this a regular weekend treat. Only slight negative was the high amount of Lycra with Cyclists loving this pace to stop off for a caffeine hit.

Brilliant woodfired pizzas with an awesome cool twist to the menu. Lazer Pig is a spin off of this place. Really similar vibe and menu. Prawn Frasers our favourite pizza! Love the fire drums in winter when it's cold. Padre coffee as well. Great place. Would recommend.
Very slow service on the weekend, but my god the pizza was delicious. Thin chewy bases with decent serves of topping (but not overpowering). The seafood pizza was surprisingly a standout. The san daniele was very good too. Hawaiian didn't do it for me as I wasn't sure on the garlic/pineapple combo, and I found the blue cheese a bit much on the vegetarian with cauliflower. All up would strongly recommend.
Honestly, surprised at just how good the pizza is here. Have been twice now and each time so happy with the pizzas ordered. Located in a beautiful area of Victoria, the produce is super fresh and the restaurant has a great outdoors rural town feel, cozy and warm. My favourite part is the bottles of chilli oil I use generously on every bite. The staff here are all pretty cool too even though it's very busy on weekends they always seem keen for a chat. I recommend the Ronny J pizza. The coffee here is ok, being a part of the somewhat close Melbourne coffee scene I would expect a bigger emphasis on specialty coffee, but it's not bad considering the location.
Great Pizza
I ride my motorbike to St Andrews regulary and generally have a coffee at A Boy Named Sue. Today I took my wife at lunch time, and we had a delicious Queen Margarita pizza, very good choice. Great crust cooked in a wood fired oven and simple fresh tomato, basil and buffalo mozzarella. My long black coffe was good, my wife's cappucino not as good. It gets busy and with this fresh food I can understand. Really enjoyed it.
This joint is great. Pizza is great, the beers on tap are always choice and the location is one of the best in Victoria. The breakfast pizza is a must try! Bravo.
Delicious. Highly recommend. Pizza was incredible, generous with their wine pouring and the pear salad was delicious!!
Best pizza!. Seriously the best pizza around!!!!
Mothers Day. Thank you to all the staff at ABNS for a wonderful day.
Everything was lovely and beautiful. The barramundi was really delicious and my foodie sons were in awe of the pizza and selections
Best Pizza in Nillumbik. Really like this place. Great food, relaxed, nice set up, worth the trip. Staff very accommodating, but most of all it has by far the best pizza we have found since we moved out this way from Northcote 2 years ago. Highly recommended!
All about the atmosphere and amazing pizza. This is my absolute favourite place to go out for dinner. Awesome atmosphere, which is perfect on a warm night when you can sit outside and enjoy a drink or five. The menu is excellent and well executed. I'm not from the area but I take any chance I can to get back to this little gem.
Had pizza at Sue's last night. It was superb. Love the location of this cafe/restaurant too. Sitting amongst the trees as the sun sets, munching on a delicious pizza. Spot on :)
Seriously good pasta!. I gotta hand it to the Sue crew for absolutely making the best osso bucco pasta I have had! Thick, rich, tender, spiced and georgeous... Absolute knock-out
There’s a distinct rustic charm of A Boy Named Sue that’s making it become a firm local favourite in the North-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Just under an hours’ drive from the city center, the family owned restaurant is the kind of place where you want to relax on the weekend whilst escaping the hustle and bustle. The restaurant also features a large outdoor patio dining on the front and side, with various sized tables decked in red and white checkered cloths and mismatched chairs. Whilst the restaurant is known for its wood fired pizzas, they also offer a decent brunch menu. It might be small but includes favourites like the French Brioche , Homemade Muesli and an interestingly named ‘ Suck eggs ‘ (pictured). The latter is essentially two poached eggs with sourdough soldiers, roast garlic, chilli oil, goats cheese with optional house cured beetroot gravlax salmon. Sounds like a bit of a mouthful but it’s absolutely fantastic. Right across the road is also St Andrews Markets , which is open every Saturday and features lots of local art and craft, produce and on my last visit, there was also some dancing. Weekend markets and good food… I’d say that’s a pretty damn good combination! Made my first visit to Sue tonite.. Wow loved it!! Pizzas deeeelishus..great setting on a beautiful warm evening., yep i will be back! Perhaps a minor annoyance was the industrial house music from the main kitchen it did the ruin the vibe..i thinks more for the staff than the diners.. Had it been more chill out music then it would have the perfect nite out..
Frank. Amazing food. Beats any overrated pizza restaurant out there.
Slow roast lamb pizza. Yuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Seriously good!!. The pizza, the staff, the environment!!!
A boy named sue is epically good.
Don't let a couple of suburban knobheads tell you different! Keep up the great work team Sue!
Local legend!. Fantastic establishment! We have been coming here for some time and cannot fault it. The pizza and breakfast is terrific... Now pasta which is sensational!! Service is always friendly. Hubby, the kids and I love it. Highly recommended!
The pasta is exceptional!
I have lived in St. Andrews for 15 years and prior to the boys opening shop we never had the luxury of great food, coffee and craft beer. My family always enjoys going to abns. The passion that goes into this little gem of a institution is nothing short of genius, from the music to the food and coffee. I hope they remain here for ever and I'd like to say thank you for all your services and great food.
We had the best night!! The pizza has evolved from yesteryear too, light, fluffy,
lightly crisped...... YUMmm!
Speckled hen pizza. Delicious!
SUES DELIVERS! (service that is...still dine in only). Uncomplicated & well executed, Sues serves up delicious authentic tasting pizza from a humble menu offering fine flavours. Great beers on tap too! Staff were friendly and helpful. Seriously, this place is doing good things. Do yourself a favour.
Absolutely delicious pizza and beautiful surrounds. Rivals DOC! Great place for lunch after browsing the markets
Good Food, Appalling Service. Breakfast pizza was fantastic, as were the baked eggs. However, we kept getting other peoples coffee orders dropped on our table & were ignored when we advised, these are not for us - 3 times, unbelievably, before our drinks were correctly delivered. I agreed with the diner who commented the wait staff are "too cool for school". I hope they get over themselves before we return. Great, great food, indifferent service.
Pizzas here were delicious and reasonably priced. The place was very rustic and inviting. Staff were great even though it was busy.
Best pizza we've had. Not sure if I want to write a review on this restaurant as it may get too busy! Best pizza we've had, very relaxed, with great food. Kids love it as do the adults.
The staff are lovely. The location is lovely. The vinyl records are funky.
Food is absolutely amazing.
Best coffee Eva :-)))
Delicious. I absolutely love the food and the atmosphere of the entire place, especially the hidden back room that plays such classic up beat tunes on vinyl! Very friendly staff and the flavours and freshness of ingredients is delicious!!
Excellent pizza, worth every cent.
Great place. We had breakfast at 'A boy named Sue' today. The restaurant is very inviting and full of character..mud brick..wood fire oven...old quirky paraphernalia that looked amazing. Service excellent....relaxed but attentive and open to changes in the menu for my kids. Food was great. Loved it. Probably the best pizza base I had ever eaten that I had for the breakfast pizza. will go back again for sure. Well done. Kris
Discovered this place by accident after a casual Sunday afternoon drive. It is cute, quaint and was topped only by the amazing food. Pizza was cooked to perfection and the farro salad suggested by the waitress was sensational. We'll definitely be back. Who would've thought that such great food was available in St Andrews?
Good rustic food. Thought we take a Sunday drive up to A Boy Named Sue and apart from a small delay in getting the food everything else was spot on. Good vibe, great pizza and the suck eggs really opened up my taste buds.. It was even pleasant sitting outside amongst the parsley and chillies.. Great day out with the family.
Seriously good pizza! Not sure what people are complaining about re: time, our meals were out in no time and the place was packed! Can't wait to go back!
Superb!. Yeah, the service is unnecessarily slow, but it forces you to chill out and relax. Everything about this place on a lazy Autumn morning was superb. It's worth the drive. The coffee was as good as you'll get in Melbourne.
Simply delicious!. From the moment you arrive at A Boy Named Sue your senses are pricked. From their beautifully tended vegetable and herb boxes which add to the charm and warmth this generous and understated ambience delivers.
And then there is the food!
Generous bowls of warm olives and a cheese platter to live for!
All five pizzas glistened with love and tasted amazing and of course all served by dedicated and friendly people who you know do more than 'just walk the walk' ...they live and breathe it. I defy anyone who sits down to eat at A Boy named Sue, not to enjoy the food, coupled with fantastic music and presented by hosts with effortless Style and Grace. We will be back!
Very good experience. Breakfast pizza for Sunday breakfast was outstanding. A good place to take friends. I could have finished the pizza but chose not to as I would have been overstuffed.

10/10 delicious. Food was amazing, we had 4 different pizzas to share an also a salad for mains and they were all so tasty and fresh! we then had coffee's and apple crumbles after and they were also amazing. Great service as well.
Delish!. Delicious and interesting pizza, great service and a lovely outlook, but definitely sit inside next time as was freezing outside and there was a smoker at the next table which put us all off our food.
Worth the wait. It may take a while but it's worth it for the quality, best Pizza going around by far.

Yet again another superb dinner at a boy named sue!
They never fail to impress!!
Such a perfect place. The setting is rustic and perfectly suited to the area and the food and coffee is so sensational it puts every door selling rip off joint on Lygon st to shame. Can't say enough good things about this place
Great atmosphere and amazing food if you don't mind waiting an hour for it.
Destination Pizza. The highlight of our Sunday drive - delicious food, friendly service and great venue. Highly recommend the Lamb Pizza - the crust was delicious and the toppings a treat! We look forward to returning to try the "It ain't easy being a Zucchini" Pizza!
Relaxed Sunday breaky. Good coffee, yummy food and friendly service.
We had the breakfast pizza (big enough to go halves) and chilli omelette, both delicious. Service was friendly and consistent with a relaxed start to a Sunday.
Such great pizzas made from local ingredients!!!
Beautiful market day, mushroom pizza and apple crumble. What more could you ask for!
Woooow!!!! What a cool place. Smooth tunes, great service and f..k me the best pizzas in the world. Go, take a partner or date... You'll have the great time.
Located at the end of an amazing picturesque drive through kangaroo ground>panton hill>st Andrews, this place brings another meaning to the word delicious!! I seriously couldn't fault it. The minute you walk in you can almost feel your taste buds selavating in anticipation for what's to come. Beautifully present gourmet woodfired pizzas that are made by some really cool and fun staff. I ordered a take away pizza which took... 5 minutes. I went up the road 50 meters to have a quick cider outside and was surprised to see one of the guys bringing me my pizza before i'd finished my pot! How's that for service!!
This place was delicious! Great bases and an exotic specials menu that we ordered off to our delight. There was even a to die for dessert pizza! Brought the kids and it was great.
The real deal. What an incredible place! - really refreshing to know that a place like this not only exists but seems to thrive! watermelon salad - faultless, from the knife cuts on the onion to the seasoning and salad leaf choice (real wild rocket - fresh herbs) simple & perfectly executed.
Pizza was everything I wish I could get everywhere else! Great crust, brushed with garlic oil (I think) crispy and chewy in equal parts. Proper toppings, not overloaded - real love and attention to detail - all from a chef in a shirt and straw hat.
What I loved most is the total lack of pretension - don't photograph the food, just enjoy.
Go now and go often - I'm going tonight.
Boy Named Sue has a fairly small menu but what they do offer is high quality food sourced from local produce. Well priced pizza cooked in wood fired oven is the regular fare but other specials pop up regularly. These are slow food movement type offerings and are pre- announced on FaceBook several days before unless you are a local. Then it is word of mouth. St Andrews is for most of us a moderate drive but the food is well worth it.
