Definitely a premium place to have Japanese food. Premium sashimi, definitely worth it. Beef tatami, you won’t get it anywhere else. Great environment for two.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner, and had a lovely time. The sashimi was the highlight for me (fresh, well treated, and melt in your mouth). We also ordered an assortment of yakitori, and although nice was on the pricey side for what you get. The tempura moriawase was good but I felt the batter could be crunchier. The spider roll was delicious though (textural, tasty and moorish). And the black cod with the miso paste was deliciously flakey and fresh. Service was excellent and the place had a great vibe and full of locals. Price is on the fine dining end, but the place was cosy and reminded me of the eateries in Japan. A good Japanese option in this area.

We had visited Fujitei for dinner and we had such a wonderful experience!

We were served with a variety of wonderful dishes such as beef tataki, scallops, sashimi and yakitori! The sashimi was super fresh and of high quality and the yakitori was grilled well on the flame making the meat extra tender and juicy!

It was an impressive night at Fujitei and we would love to visit them again!

Fujitei is an authentic Japanese restaurant in St Kilda. It is a neighbourhood gem, run by passionate chefs who are driven to serve classic Japanese cuisine. We were invited to try their menu, and really loved the relaxed, warm atmosphere and beautifully made dishes. This inside out maki roll ($20) was filled with lots of tuna and salmon, coated with crispy tempura and topped with salmon caviar. I love that the simple fresh flavours of the raw fish gave the roll richness and creaminess, rather than the usual over the top mayonaise/sauce that you find in a lot of maki dishes. I really loved the tempura bits and the pop of caviar too. Super yum. A great dish to share!

Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - two things on the menu I would highly recommend would be the aptly named yuzu heaven cocktail and sashimi. Vodka and organic yuzu extract really complement each other well YUM. Would have ordered more but don’t wanna be that tipsy woman in a classy Jap restaurant.

Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️- The cost including alcohol would be $40 and above per person, depending on how hungry you are. Pretty standard. We ordered quite a lot and left pretty stuffed and satisfied.

Authentic Japanese restaurant, one of the best in Melbourne for sure.
Huge range of drinks list on offer, super friendly and efficient staffs.
Sushi and sashimi platter was very fresh and yummy especially that white eel and scampi.
The Taraba Crab tempura is definitely a must try dish, very fresh meaty crab with super crispy and thin tempura on the outside.
Will certainly be back to try out other dishes. Great place.

I’m so glad to have visited Fujitei as I love Japanese food and this place served everything I love. Food was authentic and incredibly fresh! What really surprised me was how the place has a little yakitori outback with the masterchef at work. The meat was so tender and well marinated. My favourite was the scallops, yakitori skewers, sashimi platter and cod. Everything was delicious! Thanks for having us

Fujitei has a very rustic but authentic feel about the Japanese style of cooking. With almost a street food style cuisine paired with a 5 star service and preparation and playing. Fujitei is must do for all lovers of Japanese cuisine

Took the better half for a birthday dinner to this highly rated Japanese gem. Did not disappoint! Gyoza, beef slices, tempura and agedashi tofu were all lovely. The tasting plate desert was a wonderful way to finish (black sesame ice cream was delicious). Yuzu Heaven cocktail was fresh and crisp. Ambience was relaxed and warm. Will be back!

Fujitei provides an authentic and fusion Japanese cuisine and is tucked away in the streets with a lot of residential and work buildings - it really is a hidden gem!

We came here for dinner on a weekday, and as soon as we walked into the place, the friendly staff showed us our table. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and there was a huge tree in the middle of the place, hanged with lanterns. As we peeked outside, we saw a very beautiful Japanese style garden in the courtyard that we just had to take photos of!

The whole menu looked appealing and there was so much we wanted to try so we asked for the staff's recommendation and it worked out well for us!

We had these dishes for starters:

-Freshly shucked oyster with ponzu and salmon roe: The oyster was so fresh and nice!

-Sliced steamed duck breast with mustard and ponzu: The duck was very lean. It takes a lot of work to make it this tasty!

-Hokkaido japanese scallop, pan seared in Japanese sake dressed and flame torched Mentai (spicy cod roe) mayonnaise: The mentai was a bit salty, but it enhanced the sweetness of the scallops and it was delicious.

We had an assortment of raw salmon, raw tuna and the snapper nigiri sushi.

It wasn't like the traditional nigiri - the staff advised us to try the snapper first with the lemon and pepper/salt which really brought out the freshness of the piece. I dipped the salmon nigiri in the raspberry puree which was creative and it really works! The taste matched and it was a bit of sweetness instead of saltiness when we usually dip them in soy sauce. They created the soy sauce themselves so it wasn't as salty anyway, it was like a sweeter soy and it tasted great with the third piece which was the tuna.

The Salmon Carpaccio was very unqiue as well! The salmon is marinated in their original blend of basil, olive oil and vinaigrette. The flavours are really different from the traditional carpaccio and I love this dish!

The cured black cod in chef's special miso was one of the nicest ways to cook a fish! The staff advised the skin might be a bit bitter so just eat the insides and it was just so soft, sweet and fresh.

They have a very interesting dish called the Signature "Houbayaki" - Premium Wagyu beef cooked over enhanced miso paste on dry houba leaf and topped with spring onions w julienne cut. The meat is already cooked but it was presented in a mini charcoal grill so you can keep it warm or let it cook more etc. You can also customise the saltiness by adjusting the miso paste on the wagyu according to taste preferences. Very creative dish but I actually prefer the other dishes over this one!

There were some dishes that was a bit salty but staff did advise that we can put less of the sauce/miso paste to adjust ourselves so it was great.

After all this, we were presented with dessert which is the ice cream and the pannacotta/pudding.

Overall, I really like this place - the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their food, good atmosphere, and the food creativity is just awesome! Thank you Fujitei!
