I love going to Hojiak for some good quality Malaysian dishes, which have been fairly consistent throughout all the dishes I’ve tried and across all their outlets. Their char Kuay Teow with duck egg and the mee goreng are my favourites. They do really good Belacan kangkung and Assam fish as well! Decent portion size, although on the pricier side.
The mi goreng was amazing, I was expecting it to be average but it blew us away, definitely a must try. Fried rice was delicious! Quick service
Ordered mie goreng, a veggie dish and milk tea for takeaway. Price was a bit dear but the food and drink were delicious. One issue: the waiting time was extremely long (45 minutes).
One of my go to restaurants when I’m eating out these days. The dishes here are packed full of flavour and definitely prefer this Ho Jiak compared to the city one! My favourite dishes are the dry egg noodle with roast duck/chicken and indomie goreng. The meat is super tender and j00c3y and the noodles are full of flavour. Very small dining area but you can always dine in general area of the plaza or take away.
I love the Ho Jiak Restaurant in town so I came here to try the Strathfield version. It’s definitely more of a street food/food court style as they serve everything on trays or plastic bowls. The food is still delicious however a bit pricey for what you get.
Food is amazing! One of the best Malaysia food I ever tasted in Sydney. Their side chilli sauce and ginger sauce for hainanese chicken is very tasty.
Tried some of the dishes from Ho Jiak takeaway and was seriously impressed at how bold, punchy and well-balanced the flavours were. I particularly liked the barramundi dish which is quite spicy as well as the chicken wings.

My go to spot for awesome seafood laksa. Without going into too much detail as the photo serves the purpose, It comes with an enjoyable amount of seafood where you get your money’s worth of $19 and mixed noodle if you dig that plus the soup is amazing packed with a bit of a chilli kick, well balanced meal.
Can’t recommend enough, simple, utterly amazing flavour and presentation on point every time I visit.

Shop is located in Strathfield Plaza. Limited seating, so recommend takeaway if you live near by. The menu focuses on noodles, skewers, curry & rice and target market seems like singles/couples.
I tried the hor fun rice noodles & vegetarian fried noodles. The dishes are on the spicier side, so tell them if you want less spice. Both dishes were seasoned well and very big portions. Service was quick and there's a water & condiments station as well.
Beautiful service, food was amazing and great portion sizes. Can not wait to go back again and again. Would highly recommended this place to anyone!
Superb Malaysian food.Nice and spicy. Have ordered twice from here recently. Very fast home delivery service. Their chicken curry is truly amazing.
I love the char Kway teow (chicken), it reminds me of home. There's so much flavour in the dish and it's so savoury and salty. You can taste the Char in the noodles and it give a great bite to it. The drink was okay, I got the air Kuching (means cat eye tears) it's extremely sweet, a bit too sweet but it's okay. In total the food cost less than 20 which is pretty affordable and I would recommend people to try this restaurant.
Laksa was so good, I’m not a fan of spicy, but I finished the laksa, the best laksa I’ve ever had. And I love the kaya pancake so much, I wanna order in city store, but they don’t have Kaya. Just wondering why does same restaurants have different menu.
With the popularity of the Chinatown restaurant, it’s easy to forget that the Strathfield hole-in-the-wall eatery was the location of the first Ho Jiak. It offers a casual shopping mall dining experience - no frills but bucketloads of flavour is guaranteed.
Authentic & delicious for a local restaurant. Best for their hainanese chicken & noodles. I come here for their takeaways as they’re pretty quick.
The food was great. Had the laksa which was very flavoursome. The migoreng was also very lovely. Staff was very polite and nice. Would recommended anyone who is looking for nice Malaysian food for an affordable price.
Ho Jiak is a Malaysian restaurant in Strathfield and with a second branch in Haymarket. It serves authentic street style Malaysian food in a Hawker environment and they recently launched their new winter menu so we decided to check it out for dinner. For our entrees we tried their Stir fried chicken wings with a buttery salted egg yolk mixture and curry leaves. This was amazing, the salted egg yolk had a perfect buttery flavour while the chicken was tender and juicy.
+3 standard points for food
+1 would come back for: the flavour!
Noise level: normal, a fair amount of background noise.
Spice level: spicy! (But they give you a mild option on ordering)
The char kuey teow had a great variety of ingredients (fish balls, tofu, prawns, sprouts, greens) and the sweetness from the sweet chilli was a nice balance to the spiciness of the dish. The noodles were sweet, soft and satisfying!
The chicken laksa had a tasty soup base and two kinds of noodles. Lots of chicken and I liked having a half slice of egg too.
Hiananese Boneless Chicken Rice, Nasi Goreng Jumbo ,Roti Josong anndSatay and Teh SuSu (‘Pulled’ Milk tea with condensed and evaporated milk)Recommended. Fast Tasty Yummy 👍😍🇲🇾 #yummywae
Same menu and prices as the Haymarket Ho Jiak. Food seems very similar, though I think maybe Haymarket is a little better. Plus Haymarket has table service and alcohol too!
Located in the food court area of Strathfield Plaza is Ho Jiak. I've been here several times and it's never a disappointment. The food is a blend of Indonesian, Malaysian and Singaporean. Our favourites include the Mee Goreng with Salted Duck Egg and Hainamese Chicken Rice. The prices are slightly higher than regular food court prices, but it's worth it. Ingredients are fresh and combined with their quick service and consistency makes this place for us, a nice little regular eatery.
Orders the roti and it was so good and so big! There were so many layers in the roti and it was so crispy. Thank goodness for the free chilli sauces because there definitely wasn’t enough curry for the size of roti served.
~Craving Malaysian food?
I’ve been meaning to come to Ho Jiak for a long time after seeing some good ratings. Man they weren’t wrong!!
Ordered: Nasi Goreng Jumbo 👌🏼 $24.80
It came with 2x chicken satay skewers, Spicy Nasi Goreng rice, 2x fried chicken and beef rendang. Omg every part of this dish was perfect. 5⭐️ to the satay skewers!! The fried chicken was fresh and had a slight curry spice coating 🤤.
The only downside was the long wait for the dish. I came here on a Friday night and there was a line and limited tables. There are only a few tables inside the restaurant. As it’s suppose to represent a hawker style setting, you can find tables outside the restaurant where they can bring your food.
I would definitely recommend coming here is you’re a fan of Malaysian food!!
We came here for an early lunch on a weekday so there wasn’t a problem getting a table just outside HoJiak. We had their Char Kway Teow, Har Mee, Laksa Chee Chong Fun, Chicken Laksa and Chicken Wings. They were all very authentic and delicious. I highly recommend the Laksa, Har Mee and Char Kway Teow. One of the best I’ve had in Sydney and even better than many places in Malaysia. The Chee Cheung Fun tasted a bit starchy and the chicken wings needed a bit more spice otherwise it tasted like normal fried chicken wings I would definitely come back for their noodles and next time I’ll also try their nasi lemak and Mee goreng.
One time diner but not too bad. Had the chat kway teow dish which was reasonable and okay priced, washed down with a iced coffee 👍. Not super fast delivery of food on this visit but not an issue either.
For a street food style, you would immediately realise that this place is not cheap. Paid $20 for a a laksa but can honestly say it was the best laksa I have ever eaten. It was the 1/4 Hainan chicken model, very generous on the chicken and the bird was so juicy and tender. Had other menu items here and these guys know their spices. Try something different. I'm yet to have an underwhelming meal here.
My reviews are on the foods and hygiene. I tried fried kuey teow which served hot and deliCious. But the fishball is disappointing. Speed of food serving is fast too. It's an open kitchen, and hygiene is well take care of.

A treasure tucked away in Strathfield Plaza, Ho Jiak offers authentic spicy Malaysian eats, generous servings, and service with a smile to top it off.
My girlfriend and I were lucky to get in before they closed to try their new Nasi Goreng Wagyu Beef. I was a little skeptical at first having seen their extremely stylised advertisement on Facebook showcasing them cooking this dish, but it did not disappoint. The wagyu beef was succulent and layered with some sort of sambal which melted on the tongue as you ate the beef. The nasi goreng serves as the perfect compliment to the beef fried in the perfect combination of spices.
The service was a winner for me though and gives Ho Jiak its 5 star rating. The server gave us recommendations and was patient as I made my choice. We also accidentally spilt our milk tea on the ground, to our embarrassment, but they helped us clean it up with no worries and even gave us another one to replace the one we spilt. Thank you, Ho Jiak!
In Short: Ho Jiak is a Malaysian-Singaporean restaurant that sets itself apart by bringing a slice of really good and authentic Malaysian street-style dining to Strathfield. Strathfield is without a doubt Koreaville and is the go-to place if you want to experience the best of Korean cuisine with Korean culture right here in Australia! In amongst the BBQ hot plates, ginseng chicken, and tubs of kimchi, there are also a select few restaurants in Strathfield that are not Korean, and Ho Jiak(好吃) presents a menu of hawker food classics from Malaysia and Singapore. Opened by Junda Khoo, who is from Penang and partner William Xie, a Singaporean, the Asian-inspired restaurant is located inside Strathfield Plaza, a shopping mall in Strathfield. Ho Jiak has made a name for itself and they have a loyal following who swear by their excellent authentic Malaysian/Singaporean food.
Dope spot. Loved it. Kept popping up in my suggested posts that they got this new coconut chili crab dish so we made the trip just for it - one of the best under $20 feeds in Sydney. Amazing flavor. Possibly had msg though coz my guts were wrecked today. Worth it. Waitress is super friendly and helpful and all the staff actually like each other and play around with each other which is rare in a stressful restaurant environment but nice for the atmosphere. I'll be back for the nasi goreng!
I went to ho jiak on Sunday night and grab Hainanse chicken rice as I always got from there. A bonus for the night was the combo meal of getting tea Tarik with one side dish. I chose chicken wings. During first few bites it tasted great but became a bit tasteless (more of boiled chicken) as the wings were a bit over boiled before deep fried. Be careful they used lots of turmeric which made the fingers turn yellow in seconds.
The char kway teow at Ho Jiak is full of flavor and smokiness, but the roti canai with chicken curry is the winner for me. The curry is fantastically tasty and satisfying. While the roti was on the doughy side in the middle, it's still flaky and crunchy on the outside. The satay wasn't too exciting - something I probably wouldn't order again. All in all, a great spot for a quick meal in Strathfield.

Hands down a great Malaysian place to grab a quick meal!! It gets really busy so you might need to wait abit! The flavors, taste, variety and presentation is really good for a fast food/take away place! Prices are a little bit on the high side but worth it as the taste is really good and consistent! Definitely a place to visit if you're looking for something other than Korean in Strathfield!
Finally tried Hojiak! Had their jumbo Nasi Goreng set & Char kwey Teow with a side of fishball soup.
Fishball soup was delicious, garlicky & basic.
Nasi Goreng set was soooo spicy & delicious. Satay skewers were okay, Food was straight forward and not fancy, just authentic and good flavours.
Char kwey noodles were good but not the best - I prefer Paparich's. Each restaurant makes their own version - Hojiak is on the savoury & Chili side. Hojiak char kwey noodles are interesting though, it has lap cheung sausage and deep fried pork fat... Yum! Recommend for a good Malaysian feed
We have seen a recent surge in Instagram traffic for people visiting Ho Jiak in Strathfield. Primarily for their noodles that look like they are straight out of Harry Potter. Yes, they levitate!! As curious as we were to try this dish, our eyes wondered to the fried section of the menu where some of our favourites, char koay teow and nasi goreng were hiding.
A open Malaysian restaurant in Strathfield shopping centre. The restaurant itself is small so usually customers have to take their seats outside in the shopping center.
Half of the restaurant is kitchen, which looks like a small wheelbarrow selling food on the roadside. Pretty much like what Malaysian actually does in South-east Asia.
Laksa is a special dish originated from Malaysia. It combines different spices with herb, and make soup spicy. Then just add noodles and other ingredients like chicken if you choose chicken Laksa.
After I drank up all the soup, I found my mouth full of that smell for quite a long time. I believe it is real traditional Laksa taste.
They have $6.8 afternoon specials, but the size of the dish decreases as well.
♥love the chicken curry rice♥ - when I stop repeatedly ordering this dish will update about other dishes :p fried rice was nice too as was rendang

The feel at Ho Jiak is good - really good. The business and crowds they attract are testament to this. It was packed when we arrived but moving fast and we were lucky to grab a table for two inside. Outside there were more tables though full of people enjoying their delicious meals from Ho Jiak. Their authentic Malaysian street food is certainly very popular.
Been wanting to try the flying noodles for a long time and I finally got the chance to try it. The food was good but the stand out were the chicken wings and the chicken satay skewers. The flavours are very authentic and the serving sizes are very generous, would recommend for a quick Malaysian fix!
I've been to Ho Jiak a couple of times now and they've yet to disappoint. Last night I was recommended the King Prawn Char Kway Teow by the waitress (it's not on the menu). It was a little pricier than I was expecting but it delivered on the flavour. So great were the noodles, veggies and other bits that I basically forgot about the prawns themselves! My girlfriend ordered the Haianese Chicken Rice and immediately commented on how the smells were "all correct" (she's Malaysian). She (and I) enjoyed devouring the chicken and rice with a side of some chillis, which made for a delightful dinner out. I'd definitely come again!
Great food, love how they have a huge variety of vegetarian options. Drinks are great too! Although it can get quite busy during lunch and dinner especially on weekends, the waiting time is still reasonable and food is worth the wait. Restaurant is also situated in the plaza so convenient to get to as it is a short walk from the plaza. Staff are nice as well and would come again with friends and family.
Love coming here. Today we had the fried koay teow and king prawn noodle. Food full of flavor as usual!
Must come here and try! And now they have lunch specials too

I ordered the king prawn noodles and it was quite pricey for nearly $19 in the food court. However, the ingredients were very fresh and the dish was very delicious. Highly recommended!
Had curry nasi goreng for the first time at Hojiak as the dish is one of my favourite Malaysian. The portion was quite satisfying for that price and the flavour was good to me. The side sauces like grated ginger, jalapenos, sambal chili sauce were free and good with the dish. The only thing I'd like would be a fried egg with this coz Nasigoreng is so much better with eggs.
Customer service from the cashier guy was nice as he helped me get a rewardle card and went through how to do this review to redeem points thanks Hojiak i will visit you soon again!
A great place for a quick meal in busy Strathfield Plaza.
I had the Combination Hor Fun which is my favourite dish. The service is quick and the food is served steaming hot.
Will definitely be back for more!
Best Hainanesechicken rice in sydney. Also very delicious nasi goreng as well.. second visit.. want to try everything on the menu! Stay chicken also flavoured really well~
Lovely food and super fast service! Nasi goreng was lovely too that I tried in previous visit. Most attractive thing in the menu was the ninja noodles aka flying noodles. Eye catching and innovative.... suggested drinks tooo
Flying noodles ninja!! 🍜🍜🍜🍜
This dish takes me back to Singapore but the prices are different.
I came here to see how they make the flying noodles, it wasnt bad in terms of taste but the price does turn people away. But i do say try it atleast once to know.
Located in Strathfield Plaza its easy and convenient for people to get to, since its not far from the station.
Until next time ... Keep eating!!!!
My girlfriends and I decide to catch up in Strathfield at Ho Jiak for a nice, cheap and cheerful dinner. WOW, look at their new signature dish above which is the floating chopstick noodles. I arrive reasonably early on a Friday night at 6:30pm and there is a queue. It's way more busy than I thought. Hopefully this means the food is good (there's about 10 people ahead of me). These photos in the blog post are lickyourphone worthy
You often hear about how Sydneysiders tend to keep to their part of the city - whether it's the Eastern suburbs, the Lower North Shore, the Northern Beaches/insular peninsula, the Shire, the Inner West, or the not-so-inner-West. I guess it makes sense - each of those areas more or less have everything you'd need to live happily, and getting from one area to another can be a bit of a pain and chew up some valuable personal time.
Ho Jiak is a tiny hawker style stall located inside the Strathfield Plaza. One could almost miss it if not looking for it carefully as there is no obvious sign in front of the stall except one that says “Petaling Express – a taste of Malaysia”. We were recommended this place by one of hubby’s friend as they had a special dish not found anywhere….the Durian Fried Rice! What?! Durian Fried Rice?! Now that’s a first. Being the ever curious me, we had to check it out!
Folks be all about that PapaRich like fools, they simply just slippin on this one. Ho Jiak may seem like some sort of throw it together takeaway but the dishes are supreme.
Nestled inside Strathfield Plaza, Ho Jiak is a hawker style Malaysian joint with a bit of an identity issue (don’t get confused by the signs outside that say Petaling Express like we did), but they sure know how to please the tastebuds with the flavoursome dishes on their extensive menu. On the night that we dropped in, they had an intriguing Indomie Lobster special on the menu – if you’ve ever wondered what turbocharging your Mi Goreng with some premium shellfish would taste like, then you need to try Ho Jiak’s take. Springy egg noodles are coated with an addictive sauce, chilli, red onion and chunks of chewy lobster meat tossed throughout. Although admittedly there aren’t that many pieces of lobster in there, it’s still a solid guilty pleasure of a dish and you can’t expect too much deluxe seafood for a dish priced under $15.
Super tasty little Malaysian hawker-style shop. We love the red plastic plates, bowls, and stools. Gives a very authentic vibe.
Ho Jiak's Hainan Chicken Rice is some of the best we've had--stacking up against our favorites which were from street carts in Banglamphu and Silom in Bangkok. The piquant smashed chili, and ginger/garlic/shallot pastes atop the juicy chicken really hit the spot (and you can't go past the fried garlic bits spattered on the chicken skin). Their rice is super moreish--very flavorful and comforting.
According to Broadsheet, they use the leftover bits of the soy roasted chickens to do their chicken rice and congee, hence the deep flavor.
Though the char kway teow doesn't top our lists it's certainly delicious and worth trying.
$2.50 drinks are not only a bargain, they're a treat to wash down all the food.
Will definitely be back.
This little gem of a place in Strathfield Plaza serves delicious Malaysian food. We had dinner here on a Saturday night and even though they were busy, the wait wasn't long. We had the chicken and prawn laksa, penang fried koay teow and roti kosong. Will definitely come back to try other dishes.
There are just some times when a simple “yum” isn’t enough to describe just how awesome the food is, which is why in Singapore and Malaysia, we have another phrase: “Ho Jiak” translates to “Good Eats”, and it’s usually applied to situations where the food, surroundings, weather, moon and stars align to give you a sublimely delicious experience.
Try the S8 mee mamak with the egg sunny side up. Hot spicy and it is delicious and mouth watering! Yum! Service is prompt and with their beautuful smile!
I love that there are now different cuisines popping up in Strathfield. This is a great local spot for good Malaysian food. The chicken rice is definitely my fave.

Ho jiak is a hawker style restaurant serving all the favourite Malaysian dishes we love and are familiar with. I love the authenticity in their taste.
I ordered the curry puffs and the char koay teow. They were cooked to perfection and so delicious!!!
This restaurant is definitely a must visit if you're in Strathfield and after something other than Korean.
The unsual setting coupled by a fair while wait and the slathering of oil on a char ke teow is like not my ide food court dinner.
However, that said, the satay sticks flavour is great, and the hainese chicken rice is well coated. I wonder if they use jar stuff though. The hainese chicken is moist, so thats a good sign but the sauce is served in plastic cointainers which spoils the mood a bit....
Their chee cheong fun is a must have if you are after authentic Malaysian taste. It was really similar to what I had back in Malaysia. Kudos to the team for including duck eggs in the fried kuay teow. Drinks can be improved though. :)
For a leisurely lunch on a Friday, we headed to Strathfield to try Ho Jiak, a Malaysian eatery in our local area that has been receiving a lot of hype! We ordered two dishes to share, the Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice, and the Penang Fried Kway Teow. The Kway Teoh dish was very nicely spiced, and had a great ‘burnt wok’ flavour without the smokiness being too overpowering. We felt that the taste was really authentic and the portion size was so generous as well, which is perfect for sharing. They provide extra chillies on the side to season the dish to your liking, which was a great touch as well.
Located inside Strathfield plaza, next to Oliver Brown is Malaysia. I'm kidding. Although what you will find is quite a closely replicated snippet of Malaysian street-food culture. With concrete-styled tiling and metal sheet pieces coupled with wood mantles that construct something that resembles a food trolley to house the kitchen, the restaurant perfectly brings together elements which immerse diners in a truly Malaysian, street styled setting.
For me, one of the greatest powers of food is the ability to transport you to another part of the world. Any time I eat a Gyro I immediately am taken back to the streets of Athens; while eating at Ho Jiak I was invited into a world I have not yet been.
Ho Jiak is burrowed in a small hawker style stall inside the Strathfield Plaza. The unassuming tunnel-like stall sees people flocking in and out for quick bites to eat and take away, seeing a steady turn over. For the owners William and Junda, the stall is based on a typical North Malaysian style of food, and the restaurant has been outfitted in such a way as to transport diners to the streets of Penang.

Ho Jiak, recently opened inside Strathfield Plaza offers a Hawker Style experience with their mini dining area and a delicious authentic Penang taste in every plates. I went there with my foodie troops a couple months back and we got a hard time finding the place cause they haven't put up a Sign for Ho Jiak and I even called the place to find out the exact location ... Lucky you, it will be easier as you read my post ;p
