Review Chutney Marys - Subiaco

Bianca Beck
Good curry. We had the butter chicken and chicken tikka Marsala as well as the paneer starter which was delicious. The venue was very cold for winter and we were told as we were seated that the prices had been increased which wasn’t ideal. Food was good in general though.

It's a nice place with authentic Indian food. Loved the variety on the menu. The staff were accommodating of us without a reservation. The only reason for 4 stars is we were constantly asked to order in frequent intervals. I do plan to visit again as my overall experience was pleasant.

First ⭐ great location, in the heart off the once vibrant subiaco, not far from the subiaco train station on the corner of Rokeby and Hay. Second ⭐ service was accommodating and with a smile. They offered to make things right free of charge, which is a step up for Australia. Third ⭐ food, although not what it used to be, tasty all the same. It is better then the majority of Indian out there and certainly worth the trip. When I see chilly I expect it to be hot, 🔥 I understood Australians might not be used to chili 🌶️ but they should offer levels of heat to the customer Loss of 2 ⭐ s for the over all dining experience, maybe some Indian music, dimmer lighting, the table clothes were a nice as on. Cleaner toilets, and fix up the place a bit.

Staff always make sure you get in! Amazing + Traditional food 🤤 Atmosphere could have a little revamp (didn’t affect the food though 🤣)

One of the best Indian food I had in Perth. 5 star is also not enough for you guys 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟This place deserves more than that. Best place in Perth to go dinner with your loved ones . Best food , Best Hospitality with cheap price. One of de best food I have ever tried yet 🤤

Very busy little restaurant due to it being next to the theatre, a good choice of tasty currys to suit all tastes, Best to book your table first as it gets full quite quickly 👍🍺🍷

Awesome place, soothing and homely ambiance. Had Veggie Biryani, Jaipuri Kurkuri Bhindi and to end it, Ravalgaon Pan Pasand..wow, so nostalgic. Anuj made us feel really comfortable. Will definitely come back for Kurkuri Bhindi as my daughter loves it.

Tasty dishes at a reasonable price. Mango Lassi was rather enjoyable and refreshing. We selected one of the Banquets for 4 and that too turned out to be better than expected. Meat and vegetable dishes, not very spicy but full of taste. All served with Papadams, Pickles and Onion Salad (Kachumber). Finished off with Pista Kulfi, which tasted as good as it looked. Worth visiting again.

It’s been a while since I visited Chutney Mary’s which is one of the stalwart establishments in the heart of Subiaco on the corner of Hay Street and Rokeby Road. The menu is a blend of traditional Indian fare with some specialities like goat curry. The staff were very welcoming and there were three of us dining on this occasion. After perusing the menu, we decided to go straight for main courses.

With the friendly staff and nice decor I have tried their best foods like chicken tikka mutton rogan juice garlic Naan which are so delightful to eat and happy to have

This was my local Indian in Subi and it’s pretty decent - the lunchtime special is good value and it’s super convenient for the theatre. It’s great to see independent establishments maintaining their standards and unique vibe over long time.

Had the butter chicken, malai kofta with basmati rice and garlic nan. Unfortunately the nan was quite burnt, the butter chicken lackin in flavour. Although, the malai kofta was brilliant, rich in flavour, great combination with garlic nan, so delicious I contemplated on licking the plate clean.

Arrived here before seeing a show at the comedy festival. My partner and I ordered the share platter to start, chicken masala and chilli the nan. The shared platter was pricey at $36.00 and a disappointment not only were the onion banjis dry they were floury, the lamb , chicken and fish were all extremely dry. At $12 we ordered the papudom which had 3 dips all of which were from a jar. We highlighted to the waiter that the dips were very salty to which he took no responsibility but advised they were from a jar, the nan bread was burnt and curry flavourless with dry and chewy meat for an Indian in the heart of subiaco this place had a lot to answer too. So many great Indians in the area this one isn’t one of them

Delicious food and bursting with rich flavours. The people there are very friendly and the portions are perfect. Lost count the number of times I have patronised this place. Great location too!

Visited for weekday lunch and the food was delicious. Ordered the non-veg thali and all the curries were rich in flavours. The Bombay potatoes were tasty too. Highly recommend visiting!

I came here for lunch yesterday with my mum. Upon entering I felt this place had a nice ambience to it and very spacious as well. While ordering I enjoyed listening to old Indian music in the background which is very rare in Indian restaurants nowadays so I absolutely appreciated listening to it. Great artwork displayed on the walls highlighting a little history of India. Overall I loved the interior decoration of this place.

Now onto the food, We ordered the special banquet for two(non-vegetarian) which came with butter chicken, Rogan Josh, two different types of rice, daal makani, mixed Veg curry along with naan and pappadums(pics attached). Price comes at $18.50 each with a minimum of 2 people. Every curry tasted delicious and being a Indian, I know how it should taste. But I was very satisfied with the curries, rice and naan. The naan especially tasted superb. Very soft, flaky and it melted in your mouth. You know it's freshly made when the naan tastes that good. Highlight for me out of all the curries was definitely the butter chicken and daal makani. Not too rich and creamy but it was well balanced with flavour and mild spices. This is what I always expect from Indian food and this restaurant didn't disappoint me at all in terms of delivering me good Indian food.

I ordered extra naan(chilli) which tasted gob smacking delicious. The flavour of the chilli in the naan tasted spot on delivering a good balance of mildness to my taste buds. Even though we ordered the chilli naan to eat it now, waiter assumed we wanted for takeaway. But he very apologetic and took responsibility for his mistake. He didn't even charge me for the naan in the bill so I was very pleased with his customer service.

Lastly, food came out very quickly for us. It came within 10 minutes which I was surprised how quick it came. Customer service was really good and a great place to eat with your family and friends for lunch. Since this place is at subaico, you can imagine that parking is a nightmare in this area. But they have their own parking bays out back where you can park your car so you won't be stressed to find parking at any side streets. So I will be definitely coming back here again and try something new from their menu. Can't wait till then!
Walking down Rokeby road and the delicious aroma of Indian hit us - so we called into chutney Mary's as a sign out the front said 'curry in a hurry $10' .. why not!
Very friendly service and prompt delivery of food. The $10 curry was a choice of butter chicken, lamb rogan josh or malai kofta served with rice. We ordered the butter chicken and rogan josh with a garlic naan and cheese naan.
Both super mild (zero heat) the rogan josh had a tasty gravy but I've certainly had better butter chicken. The garlic naan was Standard but the cheese naan was a little weird with what seemed like Philadelphia cheese spread through it?? So bizarre.. overall not a bad lunch although the naans were $5.50 each .. a little pricy

Been coming here for many years.

Although a little on the expensive side, the food is delicious. I'm a fan of all the curries, especially the goat which comes with the marrow you can suck out of the bones...YUM.

The atmosphere is also pleasant and exotic and I've never had a problem with the service. Negative is that the portion sizes are small for the price.
Little Chef
Went for lunch and had the non meat thali which had rice, popadoms, butter chicken, lamb bhoona, dhal and veg curry.
Everyone of these dishes was excellent in taste, appearance, spice and value for money !
Tried a few of Indian restaurants in Perth and this has to be the best yet.
Renato
Chutney Mary's is a welcoming restaurant for being on a main intersection. The staff are friendly and food good. The chicken saag curry with ginger and coriander was excellent and so too were the naan. The samosas were a little cold in the middle though but the flavour was good. I will try again.

Last night we celebrated our sons 18th birthday at Chutney Mary's in Subiaco. Upon arrival we were surprised to see a huge bunch of 18th birthday balloons on the table kindly provided by the owner of the restaurant. As if that wasn't amazing enough she then went on to personally buy him a beer. The food was incredible. The service was exemplary. And we all had the most wonderful night. Thank you so much Chutney Mary's! No other Indian restaurant in Perth could close to you.
Lesley
Sorry to say our dinner was very disappointing. The lamb with spinach was lovely and the meat was beautiful and tender but the Madras chicken lacked flavour and spices and the chicken itself was chewy and sinewy. We also had a mixed vegetable curry and we could not distinguish the taste between that and the madras. The garlic nan, however, was probably one of the best I've tasted. Perhaps it was just a bad night as I know how popular this restaurant is.
On Deaths Door
I don't know why this place gets such decent/half decent reviews. I've had several curries from this place and every time I am massively disappointed. The tikka masala, especially, is horrid and an insult to anybody's taste buds. A tikka masala should be sweet and tomato-ey and not packed with capsicums, onions and dry spices. I feel, generally speaking, you cannot get a decent curry in Perth besides Brick Lane in Leederville, but Chutney Mary's tops the lot for what is a very poor excuse for a Indian curry house.
Matchalover
They hosted my friend's party food. All I can say is wow. Everything was so delicious and there was a variety of curries. The roti prata was good.

After eating here a few times with a friend, i have to question why we just kept coming back. The food is nice, but we don't really want nice for the price that is on the menu. However i have to say this. By just ordering what looks like a small serving of butter chicken and a paneer and rice, we left with full bellies. Looks like very small portions but since they are quite heavy on the sauce it was enough for two. Unfortunately this isn't a restaurant that will leave me coming back for more, maybe it's a once a year event?
Tao88
I've been dragged here a couple of times. I find the food sub par to say the least.

While attending movies at the Somerville on Friday, we bought curries as they are usually not bad at all. Have bought them at the Somerville a few years running. This time they were more expensive, different presentation etc, the curries were dry, spiced without appealing flavours or seasoning, the vegetarian choice was completely bland, they used dry chicken breast instead of thigh. I went back to check out the vendor, only to my horror but not too much surprise. It was Chutney Mary's doing the catering.
What have you done Somerville ? It's Pizza or BYO for me next time.

I've only gotten takeaway from here, and the food is always great. The lamb korma is beautifully tender and super flavourful, and the naans are so fragrant! Staff are super friendly, and everything is consistently good! Oh, the Chicken 65 is the bomb! Good eats!!
Lumpy Camel
Just popped by for a snack on the way home. Asked the person on the phone if the cheese in the cheese naan is paneer. Yes, they said.

No. It's Philadelphia cream cheese. Not even close. Tasted really weird, not authentic Indian that's for sure! After being lied to, it seemed like a waste of time to go back.
Jassinta Doe
Between myself and Mr Doe over the years we have probably visited Chutney Mary's something like 50+ times for lunches, dinners and post-football comfort food with family, friends, Miss 3 and (when we're lucky enough these days) just the two of us. Suffice to say the Doe family love a good curry and Chutney Mary's is a firm and enduring favourite in our house.

Over time we've probably tried most items on the menu but Mr Doe still proclaims his last meal would be Chutney's butter chicken and cheese naan. Myself on the other hand I love their mild, creamy korma plus the cherry and coconut stuffed Kashmiri naan.

Reasonable wine list for a curry house and consistently good service, the only reason I deducted half a point is because unfortunately my favourite Indian dish is malai koftas and I don't personally like Chutney's koftas. The lovely manager has assured my husband they're working on it though so fingers crossed they can get them just right!

Good but not great Indian...if you are looking for authentic, it might be a bit 'Westernised' for you and it wasn't hot at all...but as Him Indoors and I have asbestos tongues, we may not be the best judge of that.

Affordable dining in Subi may be reason enough for some to try it.
Marathonman
I am starting to get frustrated with the quality-cuts of lamb meat used in your take away curries. Too much fat-gristle not enough lean tender meat. I have been getting Chutney Mary's take aways regularly for 4 years now and have had several poor quality meat take ways over the last 3 months, why have standards dropped?!? I can't believe you would serve this poor quality meat to restaurant customers so why do it to take away customer's? May start looking elsewhere if this continues.

Have been here twice. Great food and great service, reasonable price. A great way to introduce my friends to Indian food. Also it's very easy to decide what you want for Indian food starters!

Good Indian in Subiaco. Been there with my family and they all love it. Hard to find parking but definitely will be back next time we in Subiaco

Stopped here with my wife for lunch.
We had the lunchtime 'Non Veg Banquet'. We stopped here purely for convenience really as we were in Subiaco and this was across the road.
You get four small portions of curry with some rice, yogurt, naan bread, a pappadam and a small desert the same portion size as the currys. The food was delicious! We both ate every single dish and enjoyed every mouthful. The service was very good too and reasonably priced. This was a definitely a pleasant surprise and if we are able, during our trip to Perth, we will stop here again for a full evening meal. Absolutely worth your while eating here.

Cant' go past quality $10 curries and rice (selected varieties only) lunch specials . You can have this din-in as well. Had the butter chicken, vege curry and also the lamb rogan josh and they were all yummy! Have not had a sit in dinner on their normal menu.
Matt
I love nothing more than a little Indian. Since moving I have missed it. It always has the best quality...well, everything. The Pupadums are awesome and the nan bread thick and lovely. But best of all the butter chicken was to die for.
P.S. I am so sorry for my last review, I had some spelling check and I didn't edit my review
-Matthews son
Comment Mike
Great place for a group booking or family dinner. Acoustics are better than average so you can actually hear people talk !! The food is good westernised Indian. We had the samosas's for starters and the obligatory rogan josh and butter chicken and had to put the left over into a full takeaway container. The Pinot noir from Vic was not as good as good as others tried recently but well priced and did fine to support the meal.

Still delicious and generous servings. Malai Kofta never fails. Dahl was a little bland, but Kadhari chicken curry was sensational. Good service, friendly staff
To be honest I'm one of those annoying people who only tend to review on a bad experience. My dinner on Friday night just gone was anything but so I felt the need to change my stripes and compliment the front of house at Chutneys Subi.

We arrived 15 minutes early to our booking and the place was packed, from the very get go our waiter (wish I could remember his name), was so accommodating. He quickly explained that he had a table for our group of 4 ready but it was squishy and he wanted to put us on a better table so if we could wait at the bar then he would do so. After a short wait and him constantly checking on us and offering a drink on the house (which we declined as we were early) he seated us and made sure our orders were prompt as I had advised we were in a bit of a rush to a comedy show. The food was all on point and to be honest could of been average and we wouldn't of noticed as we were all just astounded that this level of service still exists in Perth. Upon departure he thanked me by name (very rare in Perth) and repeatedly apologised for not having the table ready when we got there for which we were early for!! Management have done well here putting together what seems like a gracious, well functioning team. Congrats guys, will be back for sure!

Hit and miss. Had to hail down the waiter twice and on the third time we finally got our drinks order...after our mains arrived. I can forgive forgetting a beverage order, but having to ask more than once is a bit annoying, especially when you're eating spicy indian food. The butter chicken was nice, but the lamb korma bordered on inedible. Bland and chewy, fatty lamb. The serving sizes are tiny too. Way better Indian places around.

Fresh,flavoursome...authentic Indian food...yum yum. Coming from UK where Indian restaurants are outstanding. Good Indian style food in Perth is hard to find. Lucky to find good fresh food place "chutney marys". The food here is incredible and amazing with great serve and great value like goat curry, butter chicken and chicken korma,vindaloo..garlic and cheese naans. I had the best naan bread I have ever had.
Fantastic food , great service would highly recommend it for all!

Marvellous restaurant. This is the only Indian restaurant in Perth that I would be happy to come to over and over again. I have been to so many Indian restaurant in Perth, and this is the best one. this restaurant can take you back to the Indian culture. they have the best Vindaloo in Perth, their garlic naan is just amazing. the combination of curry and the bread made my day. Thank you so much Chutney Mary's, and the staff who were so friendly and welcoming.

Bad service, even worse wait times. My partner and I came here on the night of the nab cup WCE vs. Dockers (granted I understand it was somewhat busier than usual for a Sunday..) but we booked online for 7pm and ordered an entree and two mains. One hour later our mains FINALLY came out! During that hour we had the waiter walk past multiple times but no one even bothered to apologise for the wait time. Somehow they had forgotten to give us our entree though, so we told the waiter we were unhappy with the wait time especially now our main had come out before our entree. The waiter just said 'oh I'll just take it off your order that's the best I can do'. So we didn't even get any entree at all - the waiter didn't even care to ask if we still wanted them?? When it came time to pay I told the cashier that we weren't entirely satisfied with our experience - and he kindly took 10% off our final bill. But then right in front of us another staff member said to the cashier to take 20% off the final bill for two other tables in the restaurant?? Maybe Chutney Mary's has to re-evaluate their service.... We were pretty disappointed.

Awesome place. Excellent food, excellent ambience, excellent service! Walking in to welcoming faces and a menu that has a wide range! Will definitely go back again.

Love it. Staff was so friendly the second we walked in the door. Everything was neat and clean, waiters tended and made sure everything was alright. Food was amazing, absolutely mouth-watering.
The best part of the restaurant was the staff - special thank you to Yasmin who was so helpful to us for picking out our foods due to our strict allergy needs and made sure we enjoyed our meal.
Would come again and recommend to family & friends.

Been two times now and both times such a disappointment. I do not mind paying expensive prices if I get what I am paying for. Never go back. Sizing is so small compared to other Indian restaurants in perth! Only pro of This restaurant is the location!

Delicious Food. First of all, very pleased to see a very energetic response from staff members, they were so prompt to take my order. The table was interestingly clean and properly arranged.
I wanted try chutney Mary's with some friends of mine who had recently come from brazil. We have tried many other indian restaurant, but chutney Mary's was exceptional. The food was so delicious and tasty and believe it or not, I have already planned to come back again with friends and family. Everything was just PERFECT.
The prize was reasonable and we are taken care off till the end.

She is beautiful n with an attitude.. Enjoyed my first dine in at chutneymarys. great flavours n every dish tasted different when compared to the other restaurants. goat curry chicken palak n saag paneer were absolute treat.. will be back to try the rest chutneys!

Delicious. Been craving for some good indian for a while. I have been to most restaurants over the last few years and finally after having heard of chutneys through friends; I have made my way to one of Perth's most authentic indian restaurants. Everything aside food was what I went for and I was thoroughly impressed. Pricing was in limits n the service was good. What stood out was the food and the taste ..... Awesome. Will be back soon.

Get it India. Delicious. Love their little van at festivals too!
Love Subiaco
My boyfriend, my sister and I tried this out for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. We were a bit apprehensive due to mixed views on Urbanspoon but found the food really tasty and the waiting staff very attentive. Highly recommend the samosas and chicken 65!

For mains we ordered the goat curry , chicken tikka masala and a vegatarian curry, with rice and 3 different naan breads.

We ate until we were full and still had remaining food - which we took home.!

Added bonus is they are both BYO, Monday to Wednesday and licensed so with a bottle shop just across the road at the Subi pub you can't go wrong.
I Love Eating All The Time
I haven't been to many Indian restaurants for its never my first pick when we eat out, but as my MIL is a fan of it and she highly recommended this place, we came to Chutneys for dinner tonight and as we had a toddler in tow we came early.

To start we tried their veg samosa which was nice but a little spicy for me. Then we shared the spinach and chicken and their butter chicken with basmatic rice and naan bread. We also tried their garlic naan and cheese naan which were delicious if not little addictive!

For drinks we had mango lassi which was really refreshing, much needed for today's hot weather.

I loved every dish we ordered and the staff were lovely. Even though I never really choose to go to Indian restaurants as I have my other favourite cuisines, i really enjoyed tonight and want to come back to try their other menu items!

Naan was doughy and delicious. Lentils were creamy, butter chicken was amaze. Waitress was lovely and helpful. Good Indian is hard to find but this place is great :)

-----25 Jan, 2015-----

The food was just as we remembered - delicious. We live locally however it had been some time since we had dined at Chutney Mary’s. In the past have always found it great. I jumped on to urbanspoon to find out if it was BYO on a Monday night and as it was.
After checking the open time. I came across two negative reviews and began to worry. My partner thought we should still give it a go because a curry was just what we wanted.. Well all went exceptionally well - the service (friendly and quick), the food was just as we remembered - delicious - the highlight was the tandoor king prawns. And the surprise was the number of people still dining after 8pm along with plenty more coming in for take away.
I am so happy to say our local indian is just fab. My only very slight negative comment is it is a little too bright - dim some of the lights just a little pleas
Jane66
Very disappointing. Went with friends for a meal - not been here before and most certainly will never return. Miserable staff, extremely poor customer service and very poor quality food. One of the party ordered a lamb dish, there was hardly any lamb in there, it was all fatty and had a very bland sauce. Two of us had ordered exactly the same dish, one to have fresh chilli sprinkled on top. The plain one tasted hotter than the one with chilli on it and although had heat, both were particularly bland. Despite us bringing this to the attention of the staff, we were treated with disdain. She took our meals away for the chef to taste and bought them back pretty quickly saying that they were both the same just one had chilli on top and intimated that we shouldn't be complaining!! Not even an apology that we were disappointed just sheer arrogance from her. Portions were small and certainly not good value for the price. Walking in on a Friday night at 7.30pm to see that there were only around six others in there should have set the alarm bells ringing. Will never go back there again and would not recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.

Very disappointing. Having not been to Chutney Mary's for several years, we decided to recommend it and go with friends! Very very disappointing! the restaurant wasn't busy (As it was a Friday night this said it all!). The starter was average quality, but a good size for 2 people (mixed platter @ $32), however the main courses were not good at all! We ordered 4 dishes, 2 were chicken tikka masala curries, one of which we asked for extra green chillies to be on top of the dish. The one that was supposed to be not so hot, was very hot, and the one with the extra chillies was totally tasteless! I ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh. The meat was full of fat and not tender at all, the sauce was like a brown gravy with nothing else in it but the horrible meat! The young waitress was miserable, not a smile in sight. We brought our disappointment to the attention of the lady who was running the place and she took both tikka massalla's to the chef to try,, needless to say he said they were both ok!! End of story!! No "sorry" or discount offered!! Shocking service, no repeat business from us thats for sure!! A very disappointing experience at a high price!!

Great service. Great to back at chutneymarys, was a busy friday but the way we been served with smiling faces was amazing.
Will come soon

-----06 Dec, 2014-----

Great meal with fantastic service. I visited chutneys yesterday with the several mates restaurants atmosphere ended up being great. Wait staff had great understanding of food items along with refreshments, encouraging us while we picking out curries. Afterthat food items involves our desk ended up being fresh along with delightful nevertheless the desk ended up being little bit smaller but the person who had been serving us stated NOT A PROBLEM and joined up with another desk really impressed with service and food
Certainly keep coming back

Nice tasty food, very courteous staff, lil bit on the pricey side, otherwise good.

Mr Aubrey Pereira. After living in Sydney for 25 years & moving into Perth in 2006, I found it very hard to find the right Indian restaurant to Sydney standards. After visiting a lot of Indian restaurants in Perth, I found Chutney Mary's in Subiaco of a high standard compared to Sydney. The ambience was right and the food was cooked by a genuine North Indian chef and the turnaround time was short, the staff very obliging and the cost was not high in Subiaco compared to the other restaurants around Perth. I know make it a point to entertain my clients visiting Perth on business and they too compliment me for entertaining them at such a fine restaurant in Perth. My clients like this restaurant so much that they in turn have all their business lunches and dinners at Chutney Mary's in Subiaco.
Fn_fiona
Mrs Fiona Pereira. When we first arrived in Perth, we used to visit the Mela Restaurant quite often but after tasting Chutney Mary's food we only visit Chutney Mary's as the food is sumptuous and the staff friendly and obliging. If you love Indian food, do not hesitate to try the goat curry, the chicken tikka masala, the saffron rice and the garlic naan, they are especially awesome and out of this world. You should also accompany it with yoghurt raita and mint chutney. Do not forget the pappadums as a side dish and the pistachio kulfi as a dessert.

Great food and fantastic service. We decided to come to chutney Mary's after the game on Sunday. when we arrived the restaurant it was already packed, and unfortunately we hadn't made a booking. but They still managed to give us a suitable table. my fiancé ordered the house speciality- goat curry with cheese naan, and i ordered butter chicken and garlic naan. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. both the dishes were very filling and tasted YUMMY. and the service was great too. the guy helped us choose the righteous dish-as my fiancé wanted something spicy but i wanted to try something mild.
thank you so much for a great night chutney Mary's.
highly recommended

-----08 Sep, 2014-----

Fine dine out. Me and my family planned to have a dine in Chutney Mary's. We roamed around Subiaco in the afternoon; did some shopping, and later went to Chutney Mary's for a spicy meal. the restaurant had a very friendly vibe. It was "packed and busy", but they still managed to give a great service.
I had butter chicken and garlic naan, while my husband; who loves spicy food, had chicken vindaloo, goat curry, cucumber raita and cheese naan bread.
Everything was amazing. The service was great and the meal was authentic. Thank you Chutney Mary's for making the night even more wonderful.

Love it. Have been there a couple of times now. Before going to the Regal Theatre we thought we'd have no chance getting a table without a booking on a busy Saturday night.. No problem, the staff pushed tables together for our party of four. Service was prompt & the food delicious. The soft shelled crab was out of this world. All the dishes we ordered were great in fact. Subiaco has so many restaurants but this one is hard to go past.
Hiralal237
Fast tasty food. Variable service. The restaurant used to be a wonderful place to kick off a Weekend, the quality of dishes have declined with in the last 6 months. Great hospitality, best foodies and authentic food...
The saag panner and goat curry with garlic naan and lachcha paranthas as main course is wonderful.. full mark to Chutney Mary 5 out of 5

Yummy yummy best Indian food. Recently visited the Chutney Mary's. Loved all their dishes, so yummy & deliciously cooked. The butter chicken was my favourite & so were all my friends impressed with it, so flavoursome, tasty and just the right balance of chillies & spices. We used to love this restaurant. Havent been back for ages since last visit which was disappointing. Thought we'd give it one last chance tonight. Food quality has deteriorated badly. They just arent enjoyable anymore. For same price, go to Himalayan Nepalese in Vic Park. The only thing I like was mango lassi. Bye Chutney Mary.

Rude staff. Went there for curry in a hurry lunch on Monday around 2pm. The restaurant was a bit busy with only one Indian staff running around. Tables were not clear. We were seated and waited for sometime to order. Very bad service. Wont be back. They should employ another staff instead of letting one staff work along.

Butter chicken and bombay potato, both well cooked. Good sized naans, papadums and dips. Quick service, only downside was a noisy restaurant but otherwise great!

Beautiful food. I went to Chutney Marys on my birthday with my grandparents and parents and sister. I was quite impressed with the food that they provided. I would recommend anyone to go there if they like Indian.

It's a great Indian restaurant especially for food. The dishes I tried overthere are very tasty. Ghost saagwala( lamb with spinach) are amazing. Entree I tried small amount of many dishes with my friends such as mix platter. It's lamb mince, lamb cutlet, onion bhaji, chicken tikka and fish tikka. It's a complete dish to taste all healthy food. I really like this restaurant all over the restaurant, I tried on Perth, it's provide really amazing Indian food.
Thanks for your service chutney marry .
See u soon

Great restaurant. I came to chutney Mary's on the busy Saturday. the restaurant was looking beautiful from outside. as we entered in, the staff was friendly and had a very positive energy. we had table booked for 6 people, including two 4 years old who loved Indian food but weren't able to eat some of the spicy, but delicious dishes. the staff was very supportive with choosing the right dishes for both the kids and for us. my kids had chicken korma and cheese naan. they loved the combination and had their tummy full in no time. the rest of our family had goat curry, chicken tikka masala, and an amazing and big portion of mixed entree platter. moreover, the staff was great with my children, they gave them coloring books and puzzles to consume the time.
that you chutney Mary's, will be visiting soon.

The restaurant used to be a wonderful place to kick off a Weekend, the quality of dishes have declined with in the last 6 months. Where have all the cheerful and delightful Indian staff gone? I wish this restaurant a speedy recovery.

Disappointed. My wife and I popped in for lunch on Wednesday. They were advertising a $10 curry and rice deal so we were tempted.

The venue and the service were first class. The value is excellent but yet again I was let down by the poor quality of the meat. I had the beef rogan josh and my wife had the veggie curry and we ordered a garlic naan and drinks.

The sauce for the rogan josh was beautiful, delicately balanced. However, I had to remove each piece of meat and cut all the fat and gristle off before I could eat without retching. I reckon half the 'meat' ended up on the side of the plate.

Real shame but this is what we experienced when we visited the Rockingham restaurant too.

Buy better meat Chutney Mary's and put the price up if need be.

Best butter chicken. I went to chutney Mary's with my friend to celebrate the finishing of our course. we have visited this restaurant and each time we come here, we were given best service and a great meal. we love coming to this restaurant, and hopefully visit soon.
my friends and I loved butter chicken and garlic naan, and the rasgullas for the dessert were amazing.

BEST CURRY HOUSE IN PERTH!. I have tried most of the dishes at Chutney Mary's and they have all been incredibly delicious! The butter chicken is especially divine and the goat curry is a must try! The vegetarian dishes are also superb, especially the saag paneer. The restaurant has a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere and since moving here from London a few years ago, it's the best Indian restaurant I've been to in Perth!

Great Indian food. My wife, (adult) son and I went to the restaurant last Saturday for dinner, it has been a couple of years since we were there last and we had high expectations. We booked over the phone a couple of hours earlier, (to check that there was an available table). We had lamb Rogan josh, goat curry and a whole tandoori chicken with garlic naans. It was one of the best goat curry in I have ever had. The meal was served quickly and the food was piping hot. The staff were friendly and helpful, and service was given with a smile on the staff's face. We had nice experience and highly recommend for Indian food lovers

Best goat curry. Went to Chutneys last week and got the House specialty Goat Curry. It was the best goat curry ever in Perth with the combination of the Cheese Naan I had. The staff were very hospitable and friendly. Will always be going back for more Goat Curry and Cheese Naan.

Expensive gristle. I was disappointed with out takeaway on the weekend. We ordered onion bhaji which were nice, and butter chicken and rice. I think the money spent on putting the takeaway dishes in a designer bag would be better spent on using better quality ingredients. The butter chicken had a several pieces of gristle in it which was terrible, and for $20, very disappointing!

Excellent. I've been to Chutney Mary's quite a few times now and have never been disappointed, the food is outstanding, the staff are friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself is beautiful and unique...I'll keep coming back with my friends as I know it is a reliable and affordable place to eat.

Overpriced. The Salmon Tandoori was $36 for 4 medium sized chunks of what should've been delicious, mouth watering salmon, cooked in the tandoori oven. my two great loves, salmon and Indian food we're not a good match at all. either the chef had a bad night, or this idea simply doesn't work and therefore should be $15 not $36. The most expensive dish on the menu should be the best, not leaving u feel ripped off and still HUNGRY!

Beautiful food, friendly staff :-) on the pricey side but that's Perth these days.

Fast tasty food. Variable service. Food was hot, fast and very tasty. Not the cheapest but normal Perth prices. Order was swiftly taken and food came within 10 mins but only one person drink arrived. Drinks were finally delivered but the same thing happened with the second round. The staff that clear the tables don't seem to speak English well so placing requests or reminders of orders through them didn't have an impact. Restaurant is very convenient to the Regal Theatre across the road.

Yum!. Food was delicious:
- Soft shell crab was something different from what i'd expect at an Indian restaurant but it was great. NB: it must be a new addition as it's not on the menu you download from their website.
- Cheese naan - woah!
- Tandoori chicken - great value for a whole chicken and presentation was cool.
- Chicken Korma - perfect for a non-spicey food lover.
- The Pistachio Kulfi: the absolute HIGHLIGHT (i am a dessert lover)!!!!!!! It was just so delicious, never had ice-cream like that before and it looked so fancy over the PINK rice noodles...which I'd also never seen before.

The service was great too: very attentive and quick given the number of people that turned up unexpectedly that night due to a show at the Regal Theatre.
Sonya
Loved it! Best Indian food I ever had! All of us were impressed with the food & service. Butter chicken was delicious, rice perfect & cheese naan bread a must!

Value. Lunch of 2 vegetarian curries with all the extras along and a glass of wine for $16. All tasty and fresh. Good for a quick lunch on a cold day.

Delicious Food best in town. I must admit that I never had such a delicious food anywhere, Chutney Mary's food specially chicken tikka, mango lassi and curry dishes are awesome. The service is superb and ambiance is also very nice.

Best Indian food ever. First time we friends planed for dinner at Chutney Mary's at last night. we had warm welcome on door.....all the house was full of crowd, we ordered some entrees, lamb cutlets awesome -- muhhh,, and panner tikka. main course --- goat curry, Dahl Makhani, Chicken tikka masala were awesome. It was everything I had hoped for and more. All eve long I was hearing about how wonderful the place was. The food was fantastic, service was excellent. And we friends were so satisfy. loving it
Fantastic place in Subiaco. and to have your next party/function.

This place is in desperate need of a makeover. Decor is old and unappealing. Pictures are just about falling off the wall. Service was okay, nothing special but not particularly bad either. Food was average at best. Our bill came to $70 for 2 adults. It was nothing fancy or mind blowing. Small dish sizes for the price.

Amazing food. Last week we were roaming around Subiaco we were quiet hungry my daughter suggest me to eat from Indian restaurant. I was unsure to go there as I had very bad experience in Indian restaurant so far. after having dinner from there we really enjoyed the food and the service was fantastic. Since from that my view is changed. We love to come back again.

Awful - not at all value for money. Chutney marys is very overpriced for dinner for what it is. I have had much better indian from the Northbridge food court for less than half the price. This place is a rip off, and the decor is appalling. We left determined never to set foot in the place again.
Peter
Best lunch deal! Love the food and service. Will be back everyday.
Mrs Foodie
Service was fantastic. They fitted us in the last minute and the food was on our table quickly and tasted fantastic. We will be back and not in a rush.

First of all I want to be fair and admit that my Indian curry standards are high. Like, really high.
And the curry wasn't bad, flavour-wise, I just expected more than 3 small pieces of (chewy, tough) meat for my money.
In a word it was underwhelming.
The mango lassi was good and so was the complimentary sweet I took from the counter.
The service was pretty bad (I felt quite unwelcome), slow, and they forgot the raita, which was especially annoying.

Overpriced. Bad food and service. Simple

Ate lunch here today and ordered the non-veg banquet. It was delicious!! It was definitely enough for the two of us. I would recommend it for the banquet lunch. The normal prices seem a bit expensive but you can't expect otherwise for subiaco.
Sonia
Underwhelming. I hope that my lunch today is not a sign of things to come for Chutney's...
I have eaten here many times over the years and had always considered it to be a good indian option. Today when I ordered the vegetarian curry I asked what was in it and was told "mushrooms" however what i did not realise was that the dish would comprise soely of mushrooms with a smattering of peas! I not a vegetarian, but I usually really like vegetarian curries because of all the lovely flavours and textures... sadly I am unsatifsfied with todays offering.

Horrible. Place has a good neighborhood feel. Open the menu & you find Premium Prices for everything, papadams, chutney, rice everything ala carte. You are in Perth, so you know things are expensive so you continue on with faith & expect the food quality to match the price... then the food comes & the disappointment begins.

I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo & it arrived within 3 minutes of my order almost simultaneous with my $14 papadams & chutney. The vindaloo was salted beyond the point of consumption. I NEVER complain in restaurants but in this case I could not let it go. I had the waiter taste my portion from the serving dish & he agreed it was not fit for serving. He apologized & promptly replaced my dish. Happy with the situation, I returned to my meal only to find it had been more salted than the last portion. The chefs are either incompetent or are playing games with the clientele. Either way, this place is to be avoided.

This place would get a " 0 Star " rating if it were possible.
