Review Lady Of Ro - Subiaco

Maria Bianca Algieri
ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL! The best food I've had in such long time! No fancy b******t, just real, genuine, mind-blowing dishes. Flavours, textures and combinations were spot on! Simple recipes, but high quality ingredients and excellent execution make them unforgettable! The cherry on top of the cake was our lovely waitress Ginny, who made our experience just perfect, thanks to her professionalism, kindness, bubbly personality, knowledge and accomodating approach! CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!

AMAZING food, service and so handy being BYO. We sat outside and it was glorious on a warm Perth summer evening. We did the $70 per person menu and every single dish was amazing. I couldn't pick a favourite... but the Choc Ricotta Cake was definitely up there... <3

Food was delicious, staff were friendly, meal sizes were perfect. Fully recommend the Israeli chicken with fragrant rice. So good, we forgot to take a photo. It is BYO but they do charge $8 a bottle which is a bit steep and the only negative.

The food is sensational; if you are thinking about trying this place then do it. Menu is good and not too large or overdone. The food is cooked well, you can tell they definitely strive for quality. Will definitely be coming back for more.

Ambiance was on point and the food to die for, tasty, tasty, tasty. Staff were polite and helpful. Highly recommend. It’s BYO and your best bet is to book ahead of time.

Fabulous food, friendly service with plenty of staff. Has a charming ambience. Is very popular so important to book ahead. Will happily return.

2 legs of octapus foe $22.. Glad i didnt get the whole octapus...! . Pricy for sure and small portions but on the upside, great service and very fresh seafood. Its a 3.5 stars for me. I liked it but for that price i can get much better value elsewhere.

Food was nice and service good but sitting inside on the high table was deafeningly noisy and pretty hot. Would definitely sit outside next time!

BYO and food if this quality. Winner.
We went with a group of 10 and asked that they just provide food off their board to meet our needs (1 x gluten free and 1 x no seafood). The food came all night and was fresh and tasty. The spaghetti with mushroom and pork ragu - wow. The halumi cheese - wow. Give this place a go if you can get in. Staff can be a little busy but service is generally good.

Six of us oldies made our first visit here on Saturday
early, at 6 pm. Firstly if you intend to try it you’ll need to book! It is extremely popular, and with good reason. Firstly the decor, there isn’t any but it doesn’t need it. The atmosphere is created by the friendly and efficient staff and sheer business of the place. We opted for the $65 p/h deal being too lazy to try to decide from the really tempting choices on the blackboard. All the dishes, and there were loads of them, were brilliant and authentic Greek food.
The octopus, cod and prawns were generous and wonderfull. If you like Greek you can’t go wrong.
Remember to book!

Wonderful neighborhood gem! Had a party of 10 and was great because the BYO was a massive bonus. The food was sensational; the haloumi, lamb and fish were big standouts for main menu items; all 3 desserts (soufra, Chocolate cake and choc mousse were great 👌👌)
The food was not big servings (as stated in other reviews) but this is standard for tapas restaurants, multiple dishes are required - and the food was of the highest quality.
Small venue and boisterous, which adds to the appeal - the atmosphere was great!
The staff were wonderful and accommodating - thanks for a great night!

First time visiting Lady of Ro and wow what an amazing experience! Slow cooked lamb is a must, halloumi melts in your mouth, octopus and Mix veg platter was grilled to perfection! Topped off with traditional Greek coffee, beautiful rich desserts where every mouthful was to die for. Staff so efficient and courteous, heaters keeping you warm out front! All up such a neighbourhood gem, can’t wait to try more dishes from this rustic feel, family friendly and just good food restaurant. Well done to the owners and staff. 10/10

Two areas, inside and out.
Inside is intensed.. lively, loud but outside is rather nice and quiet.
Only went to get a take away of their Delicious dessert.. paid the amount and didn't think much until the older lady gave me more change back saying 'take away' dessert cost less.
Honesty is A1 on my book.. Thank you.
Did see some dishes getting served.. small but hearty portion.

Lunch on Saturday was truly a wonderful experience, ambience , food and service were excellent . The seafood dishes were amazing and the meat dishes were as good as it gets , hard working friendly staff should be very proud of themselves can’t wait to return

I rated Lady of Ro one star as this was the lowest rating I could provide. I will not return to this restaurant. The radon is because of rudeness of the staff serving. The food is overpriced . The area inside is very small so when there is a large table of guests it is noisy. Apparently you are not able to talk or have fun. I will not return to this venue.

I was part of a group who had a very bad experience at Lady of Ro. We all wrote negative reviews on google. Instead of an apology, the restaurant appeared to write a fake review telling their side of the story. When I called them out on it they had our reviews removed. I thought this was very bad form and showed a notable lack of customer service skills. I do not recommend this for the following reasons:
- Expensive
- Average food
- Very rude staff
I can see below the owners are trying to have more negative reviews removed. Being kind to people goes a long way and had they apologised I would have removed the review myself. Instead the tactics they employed were manipulative and dishonest.

This place is so disappointing. Maybe it's hit and miss and maybe you might have a good experience but for such an expensive price and such average food I wouldn't take that chance. The female manager is rude. The food is average. The cost is expensive. The restaurant is small and crowded. The place is extremely noisy. And its BYO (which sucks in my opinion, but thats a matter of taste). Like there is a perfectly nice wine bar with food next door where the staff are friendly. Why anyone would go here is beyond me. Also Meeka just a few doors down - the food is amazing there. There are way better places than Lady of Rude (saw that on another review and it's accurate) and the experience of dining will more than likely make you feel bitter.

I was dining at the lovely Lady of Ro last Friday night, the food was great with exceptionally good octopus. It's a great atmosphere in that you can bring your own wine and finish a delicious dessert. Our table received great service, I will definitely be back for it's a rare unique dining experience.

Have been here on many occasions usually in groups. Small lively venue, please don't go if you're after a quiet night out. Good food, a bit expensive but it is BYO.

Food was fresh and delicious, however portions were extremely small for the price $55 per head set menu for our large group. Service was disappointing. We were told on the night we had the option of paying extra $5 per head for desserts including BYO, however when we made the booking it clearly stated in the text that $55 per head BYO $5 per bottle set menu was including 'something sweet'. Male waiter was friendly and helpful, however the female manager was rather rude. Although they didn't end up charging us extra $5 per head for desserts, I personally will not go back because there are simply many other great food choices with better service around Perth.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews on here- been here twice 1 year apart in time and I have had 5/5 experiences both times!
I agree that the place and serving sizes are quite small for the price but overall in a big group sharing lots of the dishes our dinner was $25/pp including our BYO wine!
I must admit the booking system was not a problem as it was a weekday however I recognize that on a busy weekend it might be a bit difficult.
Overall great night in a cosy spot 😃
Food is always tasty, simple and authentic, with a home style feel. Service is generally good but can be a bit hit and miss, particularly when busy. A somewhat frustrating SMS booking service but there is always the option to have a drink next door and wait. Can get noisy inside as it's quite tiny, but this adds to the overall cosy atmosphere.

Went for dinner on a Wednesday night and service was quick to get us water and glasses for our byo wine. The menu is on a chalkboard which the waiter has to bring over for you. strange but ok. We got the slow cooked lamb shoulder, octopus, gnocchi, caprese salad, and pappardelle between the 4 of us which was all really nice. And the apple cake was really yum. The only negative was the portions were quite small but overall a great night

We are regulars at Lady of Ro. Brian and Deb provide consistently great food at very reasonable prices. Pity we drank too much of our BYO wine - nursing a sore head this morning. Great news is we walked home. Great local for us lucky Subi residents

Well after getting a terse "yes" upon the obligatory SMS inquiry for table availability in which I provided name, number of guests, contact number and booking time, when I arrived I was greeted with confusion in spite of being exactly 1min early and repeating my name 3 times. After being told my name was not on the booking sheet by someone more interested in their clipboard than making me feel welcome, the female maitre d' she suddenly remembered the SMS! No graciousness or apology. The young waiter and the food however, were great and nice ambience. Worse greeting I think I've experienced at a restaurant.

A close friend booked this restaurant for 8pm. I've not had a dinner reservation that late since my twenties. We arrived ten minutes early to find them allegedly clearing out table , but after a while we had to ask where we would be sitting. They organised an outside table, brought water to the table and fetched a wine cooler for the BYO bottle. Then we were stranded for twenty minutes, no menu, no nothing.... the waiter eventually grabbed the blackboard which serves as the menu (how authentic) and we chose three dishes off that. Things improved a bit from there. The octopus was tender and tasty, the haloumi cheese was squeaky and delicious. The slow cooked lamb had plenty of flavour, albeit a bit fatty and came served with pearl couscous on the side. We asked for the bill three times, it still didn't arrive so we made the move inside and asked the girl behind the counter if she'd like to take our money. $70 for two, a bit steep maybe.
Quite tasty food, great they allow BYO, let down by service.

This place is like stepping into your best friend's gorgeous home - a warm atmosphere, food cooked on the chargrill, or slow cooked for hours, always served with a smile. We have been back more times than I can count - works just as well for a romantic dinner for two as it does for a birthday celebration. The slow cooked lamb is a must, as is the chargrilled eggplant, and the house-baked sour dough bread is better than anything I have ever tasted! BYO and settle into a relaxing but vibrant evening, and maybe finish with a greek sweet treat! It doesn't get any better than this.

How this place only has a 3.0 astounds me. My 3rd visit to Lady of Ro last night did not disappoint once again. Food is exceptional! Service is efficient and so friendly! Must try their desserts! Choc ricotta cake 👌 slow cooked lamb and lamb cutlets also favourites. Great night out! Will be back

Horrible customer service. I rang up to see if they had many Vegetarian options because we couldn't find a menu online. The lady who answered was extremely rude to me. She even asked me "if i ate bread?"

Wow, this place is amazing. Couldn't fault any of the dishes that we ordered, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxed and social dining experience. Can't wait to return to sample more of the dishes!

We arrived and were seated outside (which we had already booked and were aware of despite the cold) on a miniature table to where I thought 'here we go, it's another one of those restaurants'. But fortunately what they lacked in table size they made up in food and service. Some of the best Greek dishes I've ever eaten backed up with some delicious desserts. Service was fantastic. Highly recommend and will definitely be back again.

Boy! Aren't we pleasantly surprised!
Caught up with a family member at Lady of Ro, had my reservation about it since the reviews on Zomato were all quite "meh"...
Knowing that it's BYO we brought our wine, beers and ciders. The menu is on a blackboard. We ordered whole bunch of things to share(grilled eggplants, octopus, Halloumi, chorizo), then two mains(lamb cutlets, ossobuco) and a dessert afterwards.
Friendly staff, very attentive. The restaurant was packed on a Wednesday night.
Make sure you book in advance cuz it does get busy after dark.

Great spot, simple tasty food. Dont know why people complain about noise, its just a cosy buzzing restaurant. We went on busy Friday night and there was no tables available but we went to a cool bar next door and the waiter came to get us 15 mins later when our table was ready. Great prompt service but not in your face which we like! Will Def go back.

Simple food and BYO, not the best food in town but okay, the price is okay, the serves are good, the service is good, so for a quick simple BYO meal, it's good.

Our night started with me and my 3 guests walking into the restaurant being greeted to then find out we didn't have a table, as our booking hadn't been noted down. I had made a booking earlier in the week by sending a text message to the restaurants mobile number, with a confirmation text being sent shortly after. Obviously there was a breakdown of communication and quite apparent disorganisation on the floor. A tall older lady offered us a table however there would be a wait to be seated, we decided not to stay as we were starving and could go elsewhere down the road. This threw our night as we had also arranged a babysitter and were on a time limit as us parents don't get out often. We didn't get to experience what the restaurant had to offer and don't want to waste our time by going back.

Second time here and was a bit disappointed. The first time was better. Cosy spot where you sit on little tables - wasn't enough space for all the plates and sit quite close to other guests, got a bit loud at times inside. Only 5 spears of asparagus on a mediocre sauce, snapper was ok nothing special, eggplant was charred a bit too much and burnt in some places, tahini sauce could have been thinned out a bit more, spanakopita was good. Good that it is byo but it should have been made known it was $5 corkage each. Only found out when we looked at the bill. Was hard to get the waitress's attention for ordering and getting the bill. Lots of potential but could be better.

Really nice night out. Un-Ostentatious and friendly, if a little cramped. Good food. Enjoyed the sardines. Try the Sofla (custard pie). To die for!

Superb! This little gem in Rokeby Road came highly recommended. Food & service was fantastic. Best meals enjoyed by our table of four for a long time. Rare to keep everyone happy but there were no complaints at all about any of the dishes ordered. Food is fresh, delicious & full of subtle flavours. Deserts are ridiculously divine! Only negatives are the noise levels and as it is such a small space, the constantly bumping & chair being knocked as people move past or from adjacent table. Pity they don't have more space (imagine this is a nightmare for staff.)

PRETTY ORDINARY, ACTUALLY

A big boost from the John Lethlean review... but John, really... what was all the fuss about?

A very, very ordinary Meze plate - bland and unexciting.

Mains okay... but how hard is it to char-grill zucchini?

Wonderful lamb-chops... superb! Great produce and cooked simply.

The BIG downside?

INSANELY, INSANELY NOISY !!!

Bordering on painful as the 'Bimbo Shrieks' from the table behind us grew louder and louder.

If you plan on going book an outside table.

Good food starts with good ingredients and Lady of Ro keeps it simple and flavoursome. I'm not sure about the BYO mentioned in previous review as we bought a bottle of wine at the restaurant? I would recommend booking as gets busy and if you don't like proximity to other diners it might not be for you. The only downside for us was that the service wasn't great, it felt as though we were being overlooked and we had to keep trying to grab servers as they were rushing past. Oh and we didn't get the bread that we ordered. Because we weren't at the communal table it felt a little as though we were intruding on a private party. That said, I'm willing to give it another shot because it is a lovely little place with delicious, Mediterranean-style food.

UPDATE: revisited recently and was rather underwhelmed. Bread and olive oil were great but other than a nice Greek salad we didn't enjoy the rest of our choices of chorizo, octopus (smelt off), and lamb shoulder (criminally under seasoned). And whilst I like intimate, bustling places, the acoustics in here - or just the clientele - make it impossible to have your own conversation. Probably won't bother going back to be honest.

Lady of Ro, at the leafy top end of Rokeby Road on a strip that includes Boucla and Meeka has apparently been open since late January this year. I only wish I had known about it sooner. It's a small and intimate cafe simply furnished with high bench seating for about 10 and a further dozen or so tables both inside and out on the street. It's BYO. If you're after complex food and presentation this is not the place for you - the food is simple, unpretentious and rich in flavour. It's the type of food that has you wiping the plate clean with the outstanding crusty house made bread and the casual ambience that means you have no qualms about doing so.

There's some truly lovely food coming out of that tiny kitchen. A simple blackboard menu mostly just lists the main ingredient - we shared the bread with olives and olive oil for dunking, sardines which marinated in oil, herbs and a little chilli, tender char-grilled octopus in parsley, garlic and oil, four very generous char-grilled lamb cutlets and crunchy potatoes. It was all absolutely delicious. It came to a little over $70 - real value for money.

We were simply too full to fit in desserts so will be sure to be less greedy when we return - they looked sensational. I felt welcome from the moment I rang to make a booking - the service was just lovely. It's a little gem and I think I'll be back often.
