Review Nomad - Sydney

SK
enjoyed dinner with team at Nomad. the modern Mediterranean cuisine was delectable and the staff was outstanding and well mannered, I loved their casual white top and denim outfits, the vegetarian fare was surprisingly good, the zucchini flowers and roasted baby carrots topped my list but the olive oil ice cream was a revelation! the ladies who served us were lovely and were always around to make sure we were taken care of, the ambience was pleasant and towards the end of the evening the place was packed yet unusually nice and not noisy...thank you guys for the amazing customer service and keep up the good work

Had a very enjoyable boozy lunch here. Great wine list. The food is good too, although being pescatarians, we perhaps missed out on the dishes Nomad is best known for! Service is what set this place apart for me! We would simply look up from our table and our lovely waitress would rush over to our table. Very impressive 👏 Thank you and see you again soon

10% surcharge on Sunday so just take note. Otherwise the food is really really good. Service could be better but the food was too good for me to fuss over it. Highlights were the flatbread, cod, and the grain salad. Very flavourful and clean. Kept me full for hours so the $98 for the feast menu is worth it? Perhaps?

The flavours, textures and presentation of each food dish were 'pumping' in The Feast (the chef's selection). The combinations were exquisite and carefully paired. The staff were helpful, service swift. Ambience was welcoming and relaxing. Great value for money. Definitely worth a return visit.

Wow! I love writing a review but only tend to leave them for places that blow my mind and Nomad certainly did that last night. The food was incredible and wine was top notch. And a special shout out Kathleen who looked after us, as half the reason we had such a great time was due to her! Thanks for putting up with us 😂 P.s. I'd be your number one customer if you decided to bottle/jar and sell the following: * Fennel jam * Smoked mussels * Yellow chillies Just saying...

Modern Mediterranean with Middle Eastern influences, we think the venue is a little overrated. Portions are generous and they’d usually recommend to share. I mean $29 for Brussels Sprouts side dish, a tad beyond value

Had birthday dinner here and I absolutely enjoyed everything. The atmosphere was good, staff were kind and attentive, food was amazing! Especially the grilled prawns were probs one of the best Ive tasted. Dessert also was mind blowing. Keep up the good work!

NOMAD was fantastic. On a weekday night, we walked in and got a seat at the Kitchen Counter Tables facing the chefs working their thing in the Kitchen. Good attentive service from the host/waiting staff, and dishes came out one after the other in quick succession. Food quality wise - top notch. Flavorful. Well spiced. Our favorite was the Zucchini flower, Wagyu tongue for sides. And main we got the Lamb Neck Pie which was absolutely divine. Overmatching the kitchen, we saw many guests order the raw Kingfish as well. We would come back again the next time we are in Sydney.

I visited Nomad when they were “up the road” and had a great dinner. Overall, it was very enjoyable, albeit pricey, food. <br/><br/>Definite highlights were the:<br/>- kingfish ceviche <br/>-calamari and potato (fave dish of the night)<br/>-lamb shoulder (even if you’re not a big fan of lamb, this was cooked perfectly with the best balance of flavours) <br/>- olive oil ice cream sandwich (think of baklava but ice cream version)<br/><br/>I personally don’t recommend the spatchcock as it was a very average tasting dish and messy to eat. <br/><br/>Service can also be a bit inconsistent at times. <br/><br/>All in all, I do recommend visiting Nomad.

It's easy to understand the long wait times for a table when you've had the food at Nomad.<br/><br/>We dropped by on a recent trip to Sydney on a busy Friday night with no booking. We were told the wait would be 45 minutes, but given we had nowhere else to go, decided to wait it out.<br/><br/>The kingfish ceviche was easily the standout dish. Perfectly cured kingfish laced amongst silky avocado and paired with a crunchy cracker - this was a great opener for the rest of the evening. The BBQ king prawns had a great salsa Verde that helped to cut through the smokiness. As expected, the smoked beef cheeks were very tender, though the fennel and capers were a little too sour for our liking.<br/><br/>The presentation of the tiramisu was very clever. A large biscuit topper which upon cracking revealed a silky cream layer underneath. Points for creativity!!<br/><br/>Overall, Nomad is worth a visit for those more fancier date nights!!<br/><br/>Tastiness: 4.5/5<br/>Value: 4/5<br/>Satisfaction: 4.5/5<br/><br/>Pictured:<br/>- Sydney Rock Oysters<br/>- Smoked mushroom & bone marrow empanada<br/>- Kingfish ceviche<br/>- BBQ king prawns<br/>- Smoked beef cheek<br/>- Turkish coffee tiramisu

This is our first visit. The restaurant is nice and big, ample seatings. The girl who served our table was very attentive and friendly. Four of us ordered 5 small plates and 4 mains. The portion of beef tongue was too small but it was absolutely delicious (we didn’t had enough), it was our favourite dish for the tonight. Beef cheek was very tender and cooked just right. A great place to catch up with friends on a Friday night.

The service was good, the dining area was quite loud though. Tried a number of dishes including the eggplant, the prawns and the beef cheek. The eggplant for me had too much sauce and was a bit overbearing. Prawns and beef cheek were nice but I think overpriced. Nice food but for price I feel there has to be better options out there.

Nice restaurant with great atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was nice but not the best I've had, except for the hummus dip plate to share which was absolutely delicious! Took me and my girlfriend nearly 30mins or so to wait for a simple beef cheek meal. This is the main reason why I haven't given a 4-5 star for this place because of this long waiting time for a simple meal. I'm happy to give it a go again next time and hopefully I don't have to wait that long for a meal.

Original and good but avoid if you would like a traditional cut of meat or fish. No scotch filet or tbone, sirloin etc. for example...We were there at lunch and service was average
Theycallmemaggie
Flavour combinations tend to fall in the ballpark of Modern Australian with varying notes of Middle Eastern influence. We started with the zucchini flowers; delicate and encrusted in a punchy parmesan crumb, softened by the creamy ricotta filling and finished with a sweet, fragrant truffle honey.

Love the interior and the ambience of this place! Am a fan of the open kitchen concept. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was amazing! We especially enjoyed the burrata with the flat bread, the zucchini flower, and the haloumi. They were super busy even on a week night so make sure you make reservations early!

I am so happy I came here finally. What a lovely venue and it's so well done.<br/><br/>They have done such a good job with the interior, lots of light colours and wood throughout.<br/><br/>The Bread and Charcuterie board was a great start and my wife had the oysters. We followed that with the Heirloom Tomatoes and the Wagyu

Everything at Nomad was amazing! Took my partner here to celebrate his promotion. <br/>It’s a very friendly and vibrant place, and the waitress was so lovely and humorous! Every dish we had was delicious! The kingfish ceviche, spatchcock, wagyu. Would 100% come back!
Renee
Love this place! Beautiful space that smelled of wood fire as soon as you walk in. Staff were very friendly and helpful, telling us how many dishes would be appropriate for our party and giving us menu recommendations. The spatchcock and school prawns were amazing but the ice cream sandwich for dessert was a standout!
Mishytales
Beautiful wooden decor with open kitchens and friendly service - the wait staff were also great at taking away plates and following up with the next dish promptly. It can quite busy in the evening but it makes for nice bustling ambiance. <br/><br/>My favourite dishes were the kingfish ceviche served with coriander crackers and the wood roasted kingfish head and collar (limited availability!). The meat from the head and collar was so tender and the shellfish butter that it was served in was so flavourful and delicious. <br/><br/>The wagyu beef cheek was smoked perfectly and had that nice glisten you want in wagyu, best eaten together with the kale and zucchini agrodolce as the flavours complement each other so well. <br/><br/>The spatchcock was decent however we ate this last and after experiencing the prior dishes almost felt underwhelming! The orange sorbet was quite refreshing and perfect to wrap up the nights meal.

Went here for a work dinner with about 20 colleagues. We indulged in a set menu to make things easier and the food began to arrive not long after we sat down. Beautifully presented and exquisitely tasting, the potions were generous without being oversized. Service impeccable.

Loved Nomad. I loved every dish - the octopus was just average (I liked the tomato and chorizo more than the octopus itself). Standouts were the kingfish ceviche and ice cream sandwich dessert. I had the Singapore cocktail - super strong and would be on par with a Long Island in terms of taste

One of the best places I have been recently. Good place for a table of 4 - 6 people. It's a bit noisy and loud so find myself shouting the whole night. Having said that the food was amazing. We ordered the focaccia with zaata as a starter then the asparagus and king fish ceviche as entree. Mains we had spatchcock, lamb and halloumi. Finishing off with an Orange sorbet and olive oil parfait. Just the right amount for a table of 4. Extremely nice food. The lamb would have been my favorite amongst all the good dishes. Lamb was cooked to perfection. A hint of smokiness that I've never tasted before. Just superb!<br/><br/>Strongly recommended anyone to go but make sure you make a booking. It was a Wednesday night and the restaurant was packed.

Only had a few small dishes as it was our second lunch, but wishing we had our whole meal here. Some of the best flavours I’ve had in a very long time! Top of the list to go back to when in Sydney
Broll
We had a wonderful family celebratory dinner here. The food was sensational and beautifully presented . The cauliflower was a standout dish as was the John Dory which was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back !

I went to Nomad with my classmates in wine tasting class last week and we really loved this place. Food was really great and all the wines the lovely waitress and sommelier recommended were so nice and the sommelier even corrected our tasting notes, it really helped our study in wine tasting, will surely go there very often.
David Truong
1. Forgot the wine glasses<br/>2. Got the wine glass order wrong<br/>3. Forgot a main dish and we waited 30 minutes<br/>4. Got a wrong main dish<br/>5. Finally got the main dish after waiting another 30 minutes<br/><br/>For a highly rated restaurant, this is unacceptable.<br/><br/>Amazing food let down by terrible service. Thanks Frankie for being inattentive.

Nomad is a bustling place. I went after work on a Friday night for the 615-8pm dinner sitting. The atmosphere was energetic. The food was lovely but the mains off the grill took about 2 hrs to come to us ie. we were told it would take 45min from order to arrival. We got our mains at 755pm and then stayed past the allocated time so we could eat it. They were good enough to not kick us out while we were eating, but quick to move us out as soon as we looked like we were finishing. The experience was really good leading up to checking on, waiting on and finishing our grill mains. We had to skull our wines to hand over the table. Nomad has good food and wine and atmosphere - but i would pick a less busy time to go.

This is an amazing place to experience the flavour of the food . It's bombastic . Mordern industrial interior friendly helpful staff . Fresh local and seasonal produce . Flavourful food. It's an arthouse of food. Got to sit near the kitchen to see how the dish was being made . Hats of to their perfection I saw them discard 3 yolks because they weren't just right for a dish where you wouldn't even see it outright . They cooked and served everything with perfection. I orderef brisket , tartar and trout . All different in their preparation and presentation all are mouthwatering. I will surely be going back to try rest of the menu as everything is distinct and I am sure equally delightful. Sadly my photographs don't do justice to the amazing food

Our waitress was quick and attentive. Our first two meals arrived very promptly, but the mains took some time. We had the scallops which were delicious and an empanada. The beef cheek was really soft and melted in the mouth, the brown garlic sauce was a great match! Spiced cauliflower was an exciting menu for us - really tasteful. We had semolina fritter with orange caramel- sweet sour butter with orange - again, another wonderful combination! I was really surprised and the experience exceeded my expectation.

Reasonable walk from Central station. Big room, high ceiling, warm inside, but not stuffy. Excellent service. Required booking for Sat lunch a few weeks in advance. Had set menu $69 pp, I believe minimum of 4 diners are required. Food was tasty, unusual, served promptly. Catered for vegan/gf. 🌟🌟⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Festive Mediterranean Feast<br/><br/>Fine dining experience in Sydney taught me how adventurous and experimental cooking can be. When bitterness is presented to customers as the core flavor of Orange Blossom Sundae with an aim of preserving the naturalness of the granita, patrons are educated in how nuanced flavors can be, but not how sweet dessert is or how bland vegetables are.<br/><br/>NOMAD Restaurant in Surry Hills marked my first proper dinner in Sydney -- it completely blew my mind away. No cliché nor hyperbole intended. Thanks to my man's rich gastronomic experiences and skilled tongue (now pun intended), coupled with his relentless research, I was pampered from small plates to garden fresh.<br/><br/>NOMAD's grill dishes characterize its uniqueness. Flamed with burning logs, customers could see from the central open kitchen how local produce is prepared. We particularly like how the edges of the cabbage are grilled until slightly burnt and crispy. The chefs also give the Spiced Cauliflower an interesting Mongolian touch, reminding us of the barbecued roasts we once had in Hong Kong. We exchanged heartfelt smiles as to how creative the chefs of NOMAD brought spices from around the world together.<br/><br/>The only disappointment would be the wines. We tried four glasses of house wines, two red and two white, recommended by a staff member, yet none of them struck us as memorable. We are not picky drinkers, and we appreciated the diversity of the wine list, but to be honest, we did expect more from the winner of Australia's 2017 Wine List of the Year Awards.<br/><br/>While immersing ourselves amid the jubilant atmosphere of the night, he said out of the blue --<br/>"We should still do this (romantic dinner) when we're old." He suggested, upon witnessing a long-married couple enjoying a sweet night out away from childcare obligations.<br/><br/>Certainly, my love:)

Beautiful food, highly attentive and personalised service by our waitress and great atmosphere. Have recommended the restaurant to many friends and will be back!

Beautiful decor and space, and great atmosphere. One of the nicest restaurant spaces in Sydney and around Surry Hills. Made a birthday booking and the special birthday cake candle touch.Loved the switched on staff and great menu. Will be back.

Food, service, ambience, surroundings and style all contribute to this very inviting Sydney Morning Herald 2017 one hatted Surry Hills restaurant. Had booked to come for the express two course lunch but once we got there, quickly decided we wanted to stay for a lot longer and try more of the menu! Chose a table in the front section with the afternoon spring sun streaming through the floor to ceiling windows and lighting up the old warehouse! How delightful! Service was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about all parts of the menu and history! Somehow, Nomad doesn't exactly feel like you are in Sydney. Upon entering I felt like we had been transported to a smart restaurant in a rustic winery as we sat amongst stunning large oak barrels, stacks of firewood and baked bread loaves. Shared the following dishes from their 2017 Spring menu: a dozen freshly shucked Sydney rock oysters, Kingfish ceviche w avocado, finger lime and coriander cracker, Rangers Valley rump done on the grill and a spiced cauliflower w spiced cashew, wild rocket and labne as an accompaniment! In total.... mouthwateringly great! Am yearning to return to try their signature dish; the pork, that only appears on the dinner menu as it is slowly roasting in the oven for the entire day. By the way... the artwork on the side wall pays respect to the first pig that was consumed on the premises.

NOMAD is our favourite restaurant in Surry Hills! Everything we had at the restaurant was perfection. The space has plenty of seating, but reservation would be highly recommended! There is nothing to fault from the menu. <br/>The food was absolutely delicious made with the highest quality ingredients. Great for group bookings or a intimate dinner with plenty of paid street parking around the restaurant.

Amazing food, homely environment and great selection of wine . beautiful presentation and good desert to finish off your meal what else do you need . Thank you guys

Absolutely delicious banquet set menu! All dishes are flavoursome and presented beautifully. Gorgeous pairing wines. The service is friendly and professional. We love the buzzing dining atmosphere without the lost of privacy.

Over rated food, unfriendly staff, booking system is a joke. I would advise for the price there are better options and places that provide a better service. Try another one of the many restaurants in the area, don’t buy into the hype take it from someone who had a shocking experience

One word to describe this place. Brilliant! The service, the food, the atmosphere, are all just brilliant. Definitely will be back to try their desserts as we didn’t get a chance the last time cause we were so full!
Rebecca N
Had high expectations for this place and was left so disappointed. See photo of fish ordered... The thing looked so disturbing, they did not take our feedback seriously either. I wouldn't serve this to an alleyway cat. On the plus side, it has left us with something to laugh about for a long time to come.. probably not the kind of perception you want for your restaurant. Save your money and go elsewhere
Silk Road
Absolutely delicious meal.  The tartar kingfish was beautifully balanced.  The service was wonderful with great knowledge of the wines on the menu.

The most amazing food I’ve eaten In sydney to date. This is my most favourite restaurant not only because of the ambience, the food but the knowledge the wait staff have of the produce. The staff were very helpful in choosing dishes and recommended the perfect amount to order for a table of two.

This is a really good restaurant with delicious food, great service and a lovely ambience. The dishes are good to share and my favourites were the wagyu tongue and the striploin steak which were both so soft and well cooked. The spiced cauliflower is also a must order as a side. The wood roasted rainbow trout was also an amazing dish which was very flavoursome.<br/><br/>Definitely stay for dessert especially the ice cream sandwich and the fytoura (fried semolina cake) which were really good and not too sweet. I will definitely be coming back!!

We loved the atmosphere - it is such a trendy restaurant to go to. The staff was very friendly and GbR such helpful advices! <br/>We choose two starters: the zucchini flowers and the Wagyu tartare. We loved the tartare. It was well balanced in its flavors!! The flowers were crunchy. We just loved it! As a Maik we had the lamb which was super tender! When we are back in Sydney - we would totally come here again!
Tiffany
Food that I had there were amazing, especially the duck fat parfait - creamy, sweet and good flavor, wanna order more for takeaway 😎😎<br/> Staffs are well trained and friendly, cozy and causal environment

Yummy!!!! Those oysters were to die for. I don't have photos but I got the zucchini flowers, trout wrapped in vine leaves and the cauliflower. The zucchini flowers were nice but not amazing. They were just deep friend and sprinkled with cheese and honey. The honey was a nice touch but would not get again. The trout was incredible, so much flavour and perfectly cooked! The cauliflower had a particular spice to it that was quite strong and over powering, but was still quite beautiful. Overall awesome job!

Awesome ambience and place to eat and share food. They’re tapas style food so it’s designed for sharing which we love. We started off with the scallops and wagyu tartare which both tasted really good and fresh, not too heavy either. Cocktails came early to us too and they’re great cocktails! Our main dishes which are the pork and spiced cauliflower are also very yummy, perfect flavour combination on the cauliflower and the crackle on the pork is just divine! Great experience and will definitely come back!
Hayley
Was here for a friend’s hens night. Got the tasting menu, where everyone shares a course.<br/><br/>The place has low lighting, great ambience and was super busy on a Saturday night.<br/>As soon as we sat down, the stream of food started. I swear the food just keeps coming. My favourite would be the split pea hummus, zucchini flowers and the kingfish ceviche. Every dish is well done and delicious. <br/>The olive oil ice cream was the most interesting dessert i’ve ever had. It was rich, sweet but taste like olive oil. I’m still undecided about that one :P
Good Food Good Life
Came here for the second time in almost 3 years, my opinion about this place hasn't really changed. We had a set menu with highlight of the evening being the spatchcock, everything else was nothing special, the hummus was blunt and I would have preferred butter instead, agree with the reviewer below that the zucchini flower was a let down. The server we had was fairly friendly but she needs to learn how to pour wine properly, more than once she managed to pour outside my glass and made a mess and made no apologies. She was probably in a hurry as the place was pretty packed out by 7:30.
Katie Dav
The kingfish ceviche is one of the nicest dishes  I have had in Sydney. The atmosphere is really nice with great ambience. Lots of great cocktails on the menu, the only down side the tasting menu cant be done for parties of two

<br/>Is it possible that you pay a premium price and to be left lost of words afterward ?<br/><br/> That's what happened today when we arrived at Nomad. Good food, but the service was the worst we have seen so far. ( even restaurants that has 1/5th the price of nomad)<br/><br/>Waiter is the type that will leave you a sour taste as you eat and make you feel disgraced when it's all ended. Our experience was 'Painful' ! <br/><br/>Special thanks to the the female waiter that will ignore your table and the guy that passive aggressively ask you to get the hell out of the restaurant.<br/><br/>Our first time here and also will be the last time.
Brunonono...
I think it's been at least two years since the last time we dined at Nomad, and somethings have definitely changed.<br/><br/>While the Zucchini Flowers were a bit of a let down....just deep fried and drizzled with honey and a healthy rain of pecorino - sub par recommendation by our waiter :( <br/><br/>Everything else was spot on with our expectations and a bit more...the Rainbow Trout was the favourite, deboned and stuffed...the amount of effort that went into the dish is what makes going out feel like going out!
Kravengerfoodie
Food: really good I would say. The score for nomad isn't a fab but a real deal. They have their own cold room for the meat and it's real good. All the staff knows what best to recommend to their customers. Love the tempura zucchini flowers with honey and kingfish ceviche. Dessert on the missed side as it's just doesn't do it great. <br/><br/>Ambiance: simplicity but def doesn't match for the price they're charging. It could be better. <br/><br/>Service: staff is friendly and knowledgable.<br/><br/>Price: Portion is a bit on tapas size so if you're big eater it might cost a bomb. Price for 2 is almost $300 with a bottle of wine. Yet I think is worth it for good food.

I had been wanting to visit Nomad for a while, having walked past many times and not entering. A catch up with a friend, the perfect excuse. We were looking for a drink and a bite to eat. Being a busy Friday night, we were lucky to get in, grabbing a couple of chairs at the bar.<br/><br/><br/>There is ample space to accomodate all comers. A great set up with bar and open kitchen at the centre of the restaurant as well as a meat curing and cheese room, very impressive. Nomad has a sophisticated modern industrial set up, the large wooden pylons and exposed wooden ceiling beams also giving the feel of a large rustic log cabin. <br/><br/>Starting with a couple of boutique Australian beers to start and browsed the menu. With a range of wood fired meals the menu was very appealing. We decided on some bread, a huge portion, probably half a loaf of fresh house made bread, fresh bread is always going to tick some boxes. We decided on sharing some BBQ baby octopus to start, which was nicely prepared and a generous portion. For the main we ordered the wood roast pork, perfectly cooked, with the wood fire cooking method giving the meat a nice smokey flavour, almost a bacon like taste. The crackling was sublime, even perfect with a nice crunch, not too hard or chewy. This was served atop of some cannellini beans, Italian Kale(cavalo nero) and some tasty cotechino sausage. We enjoyed this with a nice glass of pinot. <br/><br/>A great place for a catch up or group gathering. Loved the set up ambiance and more importantly the food and beverages. Nomad goes on the list of places to return to.

My wife and I went in to try the new sandwiches on offer during lunchtime. Theres a crumbed smoked ham hock terrine with pickles and horseradish mayo on a brioche bun, and a salted crispy eggplant, goats curd and pecorino also on brioche. Both were delicious and gave us a glimpse of what Nomad has to offer. Definitely keen to go back for the $40 express lunch set (which gets you zucchini flowers and a choice of steak or fish) and the the full a la carte menu.
Tabitabitabichoi
Food was delicious, ambience was amazing, and service was very good. Would definitely come back again! Only issue was a waiter who took my drink and food before I was finished, but it may have been because we came in too close to closing time. <br/><br/>Definitely worth a visit!
Katherine
Absolutely loved Nomad! Great service, atmosphere, and excellent food! The kingfish ceviche was a standout, such fresh flavours and quality produce. We also tried the zucchini flowers, oysters, wagyu tounge and fish pastilla and all were amazing! The ice cream sandwich to finish it all off was perfect. Highly recommend coming here!

One of my fav dinner place in Surry hills, great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff helped to recommend us the most popular dishes, and yup, I can see why they are popular!

This place is amazing!! From the moment you walk in, the layout of the place and interior is very inviting. The menu is made to share so please be aware! <br/><br/>First off, the highlight of my night was the zucchini flower, what an exceptional way to start off the night! There was a perfect, light batter on it and the flavour was just on point - this is a must if you visit. <br/><br/>I also ordered the wagyu tartare which was exceptional and came with chickpea chips, pork fat potato, snapper, and the king fish ceviche. <br/><br/>Only thumbs down was the snapper which was way too salty for my liking, but either then that my night was perfect!! Great food and amazing service.

We celebrated our son birthday here on Monday. The staff were attentive without being over bearing. Great menu ... much try are zucchini flowers ( the best I have had so far) crisp and tasty. Lamb delicious but a bit on the small side. We will be back

The food is very very very salty and yucky, disappointed us. The worst one I have tried this year. Will not come back any more..............
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus<br/><br/> Nomad is a mediterranean fusion restaurant in Surry Hills that does great food with a casual fine dining ambiance. This place books out weeks in advance on Friday and Saturday nights, so we had to organise this visit and were happy to get a table!. To start off, we ordered the burrata with pickled green tomato and grilled sourdough. We are both a fan of cheese and enjoyed this dish immensely, the burrata was creamy and rich and spread perfectly on the warm and crunchy sourdough and the pickled green tomato gave the dish a sour kick.

Went to Nomad for the first time tonight and I'm so annoyed I hadn't discovered it before! Delicious food and great ambience. My new favourite dinner spot. The whipped ricotta is divine! I'll be back !
Awesome Sydney Ramen Girl
Amazing restaurant !!! All the dishes are incredible and interesting s<br/><br/>Been here countless time and there is always new to order and none of the dishes have ever disappointed. Even dishes I wouldn't gravitate towards usually - I am mind blown
NCJO
In our opinions, Nomad is a humble hidden gem. It is perhaps our favourite restaurant in Sydney. <br/><br/>Outstanding dishes:<br/>1. Delicately fried crispy zucchini flowers dusted generously with salty pecorino and glazed with pungent truffled honey. This dish is texturally architectured with the crispy zucchini and soft pecorino dustings. <br/>2. Spiced wagyu tartare with fried eschallots and chickpeas that provides a surprising crunch and body to the tartare. <br/>3. Refreshingly light kingfish ceviche. The finger lime and avocado really enhanced the freshness of the fish, the coriander cracker was the perfect carrier to bind this dish together. <br/>4. Spatchcock with harissa. We were blown away by the tenderness and the flavour that this little bird could deliver. This is perhaps our favourite main meat dish in Sydney.<br/>5. Slightly tangy, this spiced cauliflower contrasted so well with the luxuriously strained labne. We have a slight obsession with cauliflower, this is the greatest contender to our other great cauliflower love from Kepos and Co's. <br/>6. Ice cream sandwich. An absolutely stunning dessert, we loved the simple subtle flavour of the olive oil parfait. <br/><br/>Underwhelming dishes:<br/>1. Wood roasted pork. I am not at all particular of the 'swine smell', however, there was an offensive porky smell that was hard to ignore and completely ruined the dish. <br/><br/>Their deliverance of tantalisingly delicious, visually enticing food has seen us return multiple times. It is a place we bring our loved ones to bond over great food.
Erica Ting
highly recommend scallops.<br/>Deep fried Zucchini flowers are really nice, favourite dish overall. <br/>All the desserts are so delicious + the wine over there.<br/><br/>
Picky Piggies
This is our second visit to Nomad. The open kitchen design gives a view of the kitchen in full action while the floor is packed with dinning tables. The lighting invites intimate dialogues but you may find it a bit noisy. House baked sourdough (with black olive butter) $3.5pp. Grilled scallops $10ea

Family style restaurant. Ordered the whipped ricotta, burrata, zucchini flowers, calamari, olives with anchovies, monk fish, spatchcock, and cauliflower. The whipped ricotta and burrata were both delicious. However, the standouts were the calamari (best I've ever had), spatchcock (incredible flavor through the sauce), zucchini flowers, and the cauliflower. Not a fan of anchovies and the olives did not change that feeling.

Atmosphere was warm and inviting. Service was prompt and friendly. Even though the quality of the food was so high, the price does it justice. Flavors were punchy and dishes were well variety to suit every taste bud. Would definitely come back, hungry for more.
Jen Wang
Like the vibe. Service was attentive and it was interesting watching the kitchen work. Love the fresh oyster. And the park pork was crispy outside and juicy and tender inside, a real treat for us!

Nomad was one of the many restaurants in Sydney that was neither here nor there. The food is not exceptional but not too bad. Like Bar H, In, Nel or Est., focusing on a cuisine or an area of expertise could help customers remember their food better.<br/><br/>I ordered the scallops, cauliflower salad and the prawns. The cauliflower salad was refreshingly and creatively made but it got boring after the fifth or sixth bite. Perhaps the chefs can look at how Embers Mezze variate the texture of the salad to incite contrasting tastes. <br/><br/>Furthermore, the sauce accompanying the scallops did neither enhance the freshness of the scallops nor make them more appetizing. A more buttery or flavourful sauce would make the scallops more memorable. <br/><br/>The butter prawns used real prawns and not bleached ones! Hurray! But the sauce was a little too salty.

Me and my partner decided to go to Nomad for our 5 year anniversary. We wanted this dinner to be special.<br/><br/>Unfortunately my partner got violet food poisoning. <br/><br/>The night was an expensive one, and entirely ruined from when he was violently ill from 3am the next morning for the next 4 days . It goes without saying that we were incredibly upset as this was supposed to be a special meal, and it will be remembered forever, but not in the way we had intended. Despite numerous doctor visits, confirming it was in fact food poisoning, Nomad showed no regard for customer service and effectively ignored our complaint. <br/><br/>Wouldn't go back.

Walked in with no reservation on a Monday night and it was still buzzing (although we got the front window counter seat as there were no proper tables avavilable). <br/>For starters: <br/>Oysters were very fresh and dressing was lovely. <br/>Scallops were really large, plump and sweet, but purée a tad too salty. <br/>Kingfish ceviche had a pleasant flavour. <br/><br/>The main dish was the highlight of the night. 6 week Dry aged Rib eye with charred cabbage. The jus and seasoning of the rib eye was executed so well, there was no fault in this dish. Absolutely loved the charred cabbage, gave the dish a rustic dimension. <br/><br/>Finishing on a sweet note, the strawberry pavlova was ok. I was just really craving something fruity, and there was good acidity with the strawberries. <br/><br/>Overall the standard and quality of the ingredients was very high and well respected. The waitstaff were attentive enough but seem to be very busy most of the time. <br/>Would definitely recommend Nomad, will have to come back to try the rest of the menu.

Last week my husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary #10 (!). We’re not into big celebrations so we (I) prefer to splurge on a nice but not too fancy dinner on occasions like this. I had a few options lined up and asked for the infallible wisdom of my fellow Sydney food bloggers. I ended up with even more appealing choices and ended up booking one of my original ones: Nomad.

Valentines Day set menu $125pp. Was it worth twice as much as the chefs menu normally at $69pp? No, god no. <br/><br/>Let me give you a run down of the meal. <br/><br/>Dish 1 - 2, count them...TWO deep fried cheese stuffed olives with a pickled anchovy on top. <br/><br/>Did I mention this was for 2 adults? 2 olives...nice.<br/><br/>1/5<br/><br/>Dish 2 - Pickled chilly on sliced Mortadella (6 slices total, 6 slices of ham with a sour chilli...) <br/><br/>2/5<br/><br/>Dish 3 - Pickled onion jam, with garlic buttered toasted bread (bit burnt on the edges) and a creamy cheese ball. The onion jam was probably the best <br/><br/>2.5/5<br/><br/>Dish 4 - Crab salad with saffron butter, with some sort of pickled garnish. <br/><br/>2.5/5<br/><br/>Dish 5 - Quail with chick peas and spinach, we actually got a bowl each which was nice. <br/><br/>2.5/5<br/><br/>Dish 6 - Chocolate moose, rose water jelly, rose petals and...basically chocolate crumbed cookie biscuit coated in what basically was Milo. <br/><br/>3/5<br/><br/>Ambience was nice but was was average, maybe some people may like simply seasoned food (flavours were mainly salty, sour and a bit of sweet) then this is your place. <br/><br/>Maybe hit it up on a normal day, because you'll be paying almost double on 'special days' for nothing special.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
We opted for the chef’s menu so that we could sample a wide range of dishes without having to think too much about what to order. Our food came out at a good pace and we left Nomad feeling truly satiated. What I like about this place is that you have the option of choosing where you would like to be seated (ie. the main floor, the window counter or the kitchen counter). Clearly I booked kitchen counter seats as I love watching the whole food preparation and plating up process.

Great chill out fancy bar! I loved watching the dessert lady do her thing! Waiters are responsive and they are very willing to recommend. I gave it 4 instead of a 5 because not all dishes hit the spot but I would definitely go back again.

A favourite spot for special dinners - the menu, atmosphere and service at Nomad is always fantastic. Try their bounty bar dessert - incredible!

Nomad has a fantastic atmosphere - intimate enough for a dinner for 2, but casual and lively enough to go with friends. Love the decor and feel of the restaurant. There are a few seating options available (bar, main dining area or window), and since we had booked online, we chose to be seated at a table in the normal dining area. It was a full house, so best to book, especially for a Friday and Saturday night.<br/><br/>We started with the smoked brisket empanadas, served with a house-made hot sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed these and were great with the hot sauce for some extra heat and flavour. However, at $10 each, they are rather expensive. The Southern calamari was soft and tender. The black garlic sauce was so flavoursome and we smothered it all over the calamari. It kind of reminded me of a thick balsamic glaze. For mains, we shared the wood roasted pork, served with a large dollop of romesco and a side of potatoes roasted in pork fat. Pork was absolutely delicious. Tender, not too fatty, full of flavour and a nice crackling. Even the side of potatoes were a stand out dish in itself. The romesco was smooth and nutty, but I didn't think the pork even needed it. This is also another expensive dish, at $47. The potatoes were a good portion to share, but I did not think the piece of pork was big enough to be considered a "share" dish, as the menu (and our waiter) stated.<br/><br/>Staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. Our wine and water glasses were always topped up. I had a very pleasant meal, and look forward to my next visit.

If you have any self respect or value good service then you'll not eat here. Our waitress last night had the worst attitude when we were ordering, even having the hide to say "who makes lychee martinis anymore?" when asked for one. Just say you don't serve them..Dickhead. A hair as long as Repunzel's was sitting atop one of our mains and when we sent it back, again we were met with attitude "well no one in our kitchen has long hair" again, you're a dickhead. Stick around, here's the best part! Today our group of 9 were accused of not paying the bill when we sat waiting 30min while the waitress was trying to process this last night. If it wasn't processed properly, then it's not our fault, nor do you have the right to have charged a $1200 bill to the card of the person who booked dinner 4 TIMES, AND the person who actually paid for it last night as it turns out. So Nomad, unfortunately though your food was nice at best, it's not enough to save you. I'd have given you a lesser rating if Zomato allowed it, get your shit together.<br/>

Great place with inventive food full of texture, taste and colour. Outstanding dishes are the haloumi, chicken and the zucchini flowers. Service also outstanding.

Ambience was really Instagram worthy. The food was good however, it failed to follow-through with the dessert. Good for romantic date-nights or girls-night-out.

My fiancĂ© and I had an amazing overall dining experience with delicious fresh food, excellent service and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend the brioche with fried quail eggs 😊

Really really nice dinner. It was a Tuesday night but the place had a fun buzz about it. Food was so delicious and a great wine list to match. Staff were lovely. Will definitely be back.

What a great restaurant. We booked a month in advance, not sure how long it takes otherwise but on a Wednesday night it was almost full.<br/>Walk ins were seated at the bar.<br/>Firstly, love they have sparkling water on tap.<br/>The waitresses were all VERY friendly and professional and the food...oh the food.<br/>We started with brisket empanadas...mmmm crunchy and light but at the same time that meat!<br/>Scallops were a true delight, wrapped in some sort of leafy thing.<br/>For mains we had the roast pork, two decent pieces with some veggies-YUM! I think it was about $40 but the quality and serving size was well worth it. We had Brussels as a side, these came with a delicious creamy/spicy sauce.<br/>We shared the donuts which were ok...nothing special but certainly not bad.<br/>All in all this was a very satisfying meal and I can't wait to go back when in Sydney next.<br/>This restaurant isn't cheap but you totally get what you pay for-amazing service and very, very tasty food.<br/>

Fantastic dining experience here and another long awaited restaurant ticked off the list. Had a catchup with a friend and the all the items we ordered was rich in flavour.<br/><br/>Memorable items were the okra, Smoked brisket empanada, Zucchini flowers, Nomad jersey milk haloumi Rangers valley hangar, duck and pork rilettes and the spiced cauliflower
FoodLuva
Had a very good dinner here with a client. The roast pork and lamb were the standouts, so juicy. Just really good roast meat fare. Everything is based on share plates so good place to bring a few people and share a few things. We had a good selection of entrees as well, oysters were great.<br/>Very nice wine selection too.<br/>No too over the top posh, great atmosphere to bring a client or casual date. <br/>Service was generally good, however was a little inattentive at times.<br/>

Pansear your taste buds with an array of unique flavours and textures at one of the most popular restaurants in Sydney (and yes, it lived up to expectations for me too). Start with the grilled scallops, which were a little pricey, but well worth it due to its incredible taste. Continue to saturate with the refreshing rangers valley topside tartare, a dish with an interesting combination of elements and textures.
The Plus Ones
It was one of those moments when you couldn’t remember why you accepted your friend’s invitation rather than going straight back to your warm bed. But in the middle of Foster Street lay the perfect place to warm up your fingers and your heart: Nomad. My friend was waiting for me at the bar, and as my nose and toes start to defrost, the good vibes of the place shook off my grumpy mood in no time. The high ceiling of the spacious room — busy but not too loud — the light wood complementing the dark metal furniture, coupled with a bar immersed in wine shelves. The place was modern and cosy.

Great atmosphere and meeting place for friends! Food sharing is always a great way to experience the company of good friends. The chicken was juicy, lamb was succulent, the zucchini parma was an interesting twist. Definitely one of the must tries around Sydney!

I've been to Nomad twice, and I'm not super in love with it. The food isn't bad, but it potentially doesn't suit my palate. On my second visit, we're forced to have the set menu. I'm anti set menus in general because I like being able to choose (and thoroughly research) the dishes I want to eat. None of the dishes were very memorable, except maybe the halloumi. I think it's worth going with a smaller group so you're not limited to the set menu. The atmosphere is fantastic, though - I love the look and feel of the interior.

I've been wanting to come here for a while, and finally, it happened!! Firstly, very impressed with the layout.. It's quite big inside Nomad, with nice ambient lighting and an open-kitchen to watch the chefs work their magic. The food is spectacular as well, highlights were the Grilled Scallop (drooool), Beef Tartare (cleverly covered in thinly sliced radish!) and the Ice Cream Sandwich (every bite was heaven!). We ordered other dishes on the menu, but they weren't as amazing as those three. Wish we had room to squeeze in the Kingfish Ceviche, it looked absolutely gorgeous with decorated flowers on top, but I'll just have to make a second visit to try it out next time! <br/><br/>It's a great place to go with friends, or even an intimate dinner for two. If you come here with a party of 3 or more, there's a chefs menu for $65 a head.. Worth checking out. The wine you get here as well is amazing, after dinner you also get the name of the bottles if you had wine during dinner, as most of the wine at the Nomad cellar you can't get at regular bottle shops. A really nice touch! I had two glasses of the Syrahmi Shiraz which was so good.. I suggest trying that if you like your red wine :) Great visit, so happy I finally came here, and tempted to come again to try the other food on the menu!

Love this place!! I finally tried out this place after many recommendations and it certainly lived up to expectations. I really enjoy the open warehouse space and food was delicious. It is a little more on the pricey side but worthwhile experience.

Wow we loved the food and atmosphere. They were really accommodating for a group with a few of us with special dietary requirements. Only disappointment was watching the birthday cake (pre ordered) sit on the counter for 20 min before someone on staff attempted to cut it up. Zucchini flowers and lamb were sooo good!

As locals to Surry Hills, we're spoilt for choice around here (lucky) but when it comes to special occasions then Nomad gets the nod. Its a special place for special celebrations. Last night's much anticipated visit was sadly less than satisfying compared to previous visits, so something has changed, lets figure it out. <br/>The ambience and decor are major parts of Nomad's appeal. Warehouse space but intimate at ground level, the heart and heat of the kitchen acts like a magnet drawing you in to the centre constantly. Add to that the excellent service - efficient yet unobtrusive, informed, warm and friendly.<br/>Our choice of wines from an extensive wine list was made easier by a couple of tastings, and we weren't disappointed. A night for bold reds.<br/>The spanner crab croquettes were delicious - soft inside and crunchy out. The kingfish ceviche was perfectly flavoured and textured with light, crispy crackers. Beautifully plated too. For mains I went with the Seafood Pastilla (monkfish) which was disappointing. Firstly, the oil in which is had been fried tasted slightly rancid, secondly there wasn't a lot of monkfish in the filling. The pastry was overly oily and combined with the richness of the labne, it was all too rich for my palate. My partner enjoys his meat and had eyes for the Suckling Pig however his hopes were dashed due the Public Holiday, so settled on the Albondigas (meatballs) which he enjoyed without being overwhelmed. The side of brussels were a delight, we could easily have ordered another but resisted. Overall we felt the main courses lacked the subtlety and nuanced flavours of previous dishes we've enjoyed there.<br/>An enjoyable dining experience once again however we both came away feeling a little less of the wow factor this time. Of course we'll head back again, hopefully to have our faith restored.

It is a delightful dinner we had there. I love all the flavor combinations! The empanadas are the highlight! Really tasty with the Chilli sauce! The only thing I would like they to improve is PLEASE ASK ME how I would like my steak to be cooked. The steak was too rare for my liking, but I had to admit that the flavor was just impressive. Enjoyed my night there!

Enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. A place i would definitely come back to with a few friends. A great selection of good wine to match.

Having previously worked with Matt Yazbek at Toko, I had excitedly been eyeing Nomad off since it opened. I finally had the opportunity to drop in on my most recent trip back home to Sydney and it didn't let me down. As advertised, it is a really lovely place to come together with friends to share some great food and wine in a relaxed setting.<br/><br/>Starters are always my favourite part of any meal and they were a definite highlight here. The house charcuterie with home made pickles were predictably good, as were the scallops and the ceviche. Mains were good, especially the pork...but the sides were the surprise winner here! Much effort was placed into making these standard veggie accompaniments interesting and tasty.<br/><br/>A really great addition to Surry Hills and one I would not hesitate to recommend!

There has been quite a buzz around the office for Nomad Wine in Sydney so I decided to check it out during my first day in the beautiful city.  My hotel was near the Sydney Opera House. Nomad Wine was on the other side of town in Surry Hills.  My colleagues and I decided to walk to the restaurant. It took about 25 minutes but helped us work up an appetite.  It was a lovely autumn’s evening and the hike was literally a walk in a park – Hyde Park.

Booked this place last min for a Friday night (9pm was only left!) as I was meaning to try it out for quite some time now. Over-ordered the menu as we were so excited to try everything. Scallops were cooked to perfection and the flavour combination was great- creamy cauliflower puree' with the freshness of the pomegranate to cut out the heaviness. The crab croquettes were crisp and light on the outside and fluffy and warm on the inside with lovely flavour. The haloumi (made onsite as told by our waiter after) was full of flavour and tasted nice with the roasted cherry tomatoes. The kingfish was gorgeous both on plate and on the palette. My friend who normally hates raw fish got forced to take a spoonful by me who was in heaven after first bite, even said she liked the dish, especially with the creaminess of the avocado on top! However the highlight of the night has to be the lamb which was cooked to absolute perfection and had great flavour without that heavy smell of lamb which I normally can't stand. Service was great too, with food coming out relatively fast at a steady pace and attentive waiters and waitresses coming regularly to check on you and re-fill your wine glasses. The decor of this place is open, large, with warm luminescent lights which creates a nice ambience without being too formal. Overall, very happy and will definitely be back next time!

Can't get enough of Nomad. Every single one of their dishes is on point. Their wines are also quite good and unique. The service matches the dish quality. <br/><br/>Went here a second time with a friend who had a restricted diet, and the staff were very helpful in accommodating her needs, providing accurate suggestions each and every time.<br/><br/>The loss of 0.5 is only due to one small thing - getting a table can be difficult! <br/><br/>You must try Nomad. Enjoy drooling all over the attached images!

Came for my birthday dinner. I was floored by the high quality of everything - the service, the food, the interior design, the fabulous wine list. The kingfish ceviche and the lamb were the highlights of the night, and I was also a big fan of the valrhona chocolate dessert. I had such a wonderful experience - can't wait to come back!

I have to say that I cannot rave enough about Nomad. I have been here so many times now. With the menu changing seasonally, it always entices me to come back. <br/><br/>The meals are all made to be shared, so it's a good place to go with a group of friends. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes here. If you're not sure what to order, the staff are always happy to give you their recommendations.<br/><br/>The drink menu is quite extensive, with a wide variety of cocktails and wines. They don't do mocktails, but the bar staff are more than happy to whip something up for you.<br/><br/>The amount of times I've been, it has always been during busy times. The service is always outstanding regardless. Always friendly and attentive.<br/><br/>I definitely recommend this restaurant and I can't wait for my next visit!

Always a great experience dining in this gem. A trusted favourite! Waiters are very helpful with deciding order sizes and this is not very common with most restaurants. I enjoyed the beef empanadas, the kingfish ceviche, the pea hummus and all the sides. It was such a smart menu, which allows for rediscovering veggies as well.

My family came here for today for lunch. As you walk in you notice the spacious and open feel of the restaurant and sitting close to the kitchen, you can see the chefs at work. We found the service from staff friendly and professional but with the food, some were great and the rest we found just average. <br/><br/>I didn't take photos of all the dishes we ate as we were too busy talking and eating but we found the zucchini flowers and the kingfish ceviche to be the highlight. The kingfish was very pretty on the plate and tasted great with the coriander cracker. Their escalivada was just roasted vegetables which my MIL thought was too salty. The haloumi was good but the portion small for $29. The plate was just roasted tomatoes with a small disc of haloumi. The ranger valley hanger was cooked well but the highlight for me was the mushroom that the dish came with. We enjoyed the side of smoked beetroot,<br/><br/>For dessert, we ordered 2 serves of ice cream sandwich, valrhona chocolate which was visually nice with the rose petals and raspberry but I preferred the cinnamon doughnuts with mascarpone ice cream. My husband didn't like the Pedro Ximenez syrup it came with, but I didn't mind it as it seem to cut through the sweetness. <br/><br/>Glad I could tick another place off my wishlist

December pre Christmas business lunch with 6 others in a very busy but spacious and smoothly run restaurant. We had everything from breads, olives, antipasti, delicious fried zucchini flowers, fish, lamb, salads, deserts & coffee, and lots of wine.<br/>I get the impression this is as much a place to come and hang out with friends, as it is an imaginative contemporary kitchen presenting interesting food.<br/>Sharing a range of dishes is not always the best way to savour a particular expertise or complexity, so I'll have to come back some time and give it a chance for a 4+

Excellent service and very friendly staff. Our waitress did not try and upsell us but made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal.<br/><br/>Food was superb. We had the zucchini flowers for the entree which were perfectly fried and dressed with a delicious cheese. Surprisingly sweet flavour. For main we shared the lamb neck with Israeli cous cous. The acidity of the lemon juice dressing on the cous cous complimented the yoghurt and lamb very well. Well matched with a nice red wine.<br/><br/>Reasonably well price, ended up being about $45 per person which was fair given the quality of the food, atmosphere and service. Added bonus was the fact that we could hear one another over the bustle of the restaurant.<br/><br/>A must try for all restaurant goers. <br/>

The feel of the restaurant is more relaxed than uptight which I love yet has some fantastic food like (actually, better) than... Er... Uptight restaurants. <br/><br/>We went for our wedding anniversary and took the choice of sitting at the bar stool area so we could watch the kitchen while waiting for our food and provide distractions when we inevitably run out of conversation lol<br/><br/>We sat at the 'small plates' preparation table and the guy was real friendly as we made some chit chat and watched how they elegantly and with great care prepared the delicate dishes. One of the probably younger chefs was struggling with getting the peach to sit exactly right on top of the Buffalo mozzarella and it was pretty funny to watch as he kept trying again and again and again haha<br/><br/>We ordered the tartare small plate as a starter and man, I'm usually not a raw food type person but maybe it was cuz I saw him make 5 on the spot before our one or I just liked the chit chat with the guy that made it but it was pretty damn good. Soft and melty (maybe that's not the right description) with wild rice to add that crunch. Fantastic... If u are a tartare kind of guy. <br/><br/>So that was just a start of things to come because when the real food came (the char grilled lamb neck and Ranger Valley hanger) it had to be some of the best damn cooked meat I had eaten. <br/>So perfectly cooked, so tender, the fattiness of the meat added nice moistness and flavor. <br/>At first I was not impressed with the size of the meat dishes that came but surprisingly I didn't leave hungry. <br/>The waitress suggested also the pea salad but it didn't do much for me - can't remember the taste much but I think it was the fennel taste and I (probably wrongly) was expecting mashed peas (it was whole peas) to go with my meat. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly, no complaints in that regard and another funny moment was watching the kitchen hand spin the salad dry in the biggest freaking salad spinner I had ever seen! She had to bear hug it and could barely hold it up to the sink haha. ..I got a picture but nah I'll let u go there and look for the salad spinner :) <br/><br/>Great place, would definitely go again.

One of the best restaurant in the area. It is a lovely place and the service is fantastic. Nothing really disappointed — everything from the entre and mains to the dessert was amazing.
John Sweet
Really impressed with Nomad. On the expensive side but great food which is for the most part locally sourced. Also a great fit out, a warehouse or industrial feel with an open kitchen. Get a seat at the bar and watch the chefs do their thing.

Nice design and feel in the back streets of Surry Hills.<br/><br/>The menu offers a variety of mostly share plates but isn't overly interesting. <br/><br/>I found the staff ok but not overly accommodating and friendly. <br/><br/>Worth a try but wouldn't rush back.
OneFatFoodie
What I love most about the restaurant is the warehouse feel and the open kitchen. I highly suggest getting a seat that looks over the kitchen and watching these talented chefs do their thing, it's phenomenal. The food unfortunately has dropped off slightly since my first visit in Dec 2014. I went back with high expectations after being blown away. Also ordered a new dish on the menu as a main and it took way too long to come out... free dessert made up for the error but still just not as good as it used to be....

Came here for my birthday to celebrate. What a great place. Love the food, the decor and the ambience. All the dishes were yummy and in large portions. Drinks were on the more expensive side but if you come just for the food, it's very well priced I think. Recommended.
Mimi Lush
Had a great lunch today made all the better due to the attentive service (Deanna you rock!) and great food. All shared plates were delicious and our vegetarian guest was extremely well catered for. Kingfish cherviche, zucchini flowers and smoked chook were standouts. Thanks for making our day special.

Amazing food. Very average service by our section waitress. Our waitress immediately told us when we sat down our out by time and continued to remind us at least 4 times throughout our meal. Such a shame as all the other wait staff were very friendly. Was disappointed to have been seated in her section, especially since it was my birthday and she chose to be rude to us all night. She also told us we weren't allowed to order the chicken because apparently it takes 45 minutes to cook and we wouldn't be able to get it before she needed the table back - seems bizarre that it could possibly take that long to cook chicken.

It’s taken me a while but I’ve finally dined at Nomad in Surry Hills. The one hatted restaurant serves contemporary cuisine with Mediterranean influences. Watch my YouTube video below for a quick overview:. There’s a strong focus on locally grown produce that extends even to the wine list. Nomad features a lot of snacks and small plates as the menu is designed to be shared.
Dave Reviews
The food at nomad today was very well cooked. The wagyu small plate to share was tender and soft, and the chimichurri complimented it very well. Thoroughly enjoyed that small plate. The snapper was a little dry but the nice white sauce complimented it and made it taste a lot better. The chicken, at first looked very average, but it was very well seasoned - a very nice surprise. That dish was also a little dry though. Overall the food was well seasoned and flavoursome. The atmosphere is nice.

Nomad was recommended to me by a couple of friends and I am glad that they did! The service was amazing on arrival right until we left. All the dishes are designed as share plates. My favourite dishes were the kingfish ceviche (yummmm) and the tiger prawns (butter heaven). I will definitely be coming back again.
Bo Meng
Visited Nomad on three separate occasions, and I was not disappointed once. Service is great and the food is amazing. The seasoning on the okra is just amazing. Smoked eel croquette is unbelievable, and their mains, which they suggested 2 mains among four people, was good too.
Kate4Food
Recommended by a friend! I am so glad we listened to him. Started with the Okra - amazing! Followed by the Kingfish which melted in your mouth - hold the bread though, it was completely not needed. ZUCCHINI FLOWERS... just eat them, then eat some more! The stem was soft and the flower head crispy, just perfect to the palate.  I tried Tongue for the first time in my life and it blew my mind, so tasty and tender, a definite must. I wish we hadn't ordered the prawns though, as they were too 'dirty' tasting. The beetroot salad made up for the poor taste of the prawns though. The service was very good, we felt that all of our needs were met. The wine expert was great, he picked the perfect beverage to match our meal. If you get the chance to go to Nomad, do! Finish off with the amazing Chocolate dessert and a short black, and you will head home with a kick in your step and a wish to go back to try everything else on the menu.

Awesome restaurant in a crap part of town, but come before Lucy and Clover finish turning it into a pale facsimile of the meat packing district in NY.<br/><br/>On my usual order of battle: great space; limited, but good beer range - focus on boutique Australian beers like Moo Brew and Burleigh Heads; nice range of quirky Australian wine, we sampled a good Tasmanian "Blanc" by Synapius, and a cracking Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir.<br/><br/>Food was excellent: kingfish ceviche; Ortiz anchovies with "house hung" ricotta ( sounds uncomfortable); hanger steak was sublime; and a great beetroot salad. Finished with a super cheese plate: holy goat la Luna, penganya cheddar a a ripping blue.<br/><br/>Definitely coming back.
Sloweats
A restuarant that isn't trying to do more than deliver great food and service. Each dish was superb and the atmosphere buzzing. A perfect place close to the city.
Amys_food_adventures
Large open warehouse space with lots of tables. This place tends to have a big turnout most nights of the week. The menu has a large range to suit most tastes. Came here with a group of foodie friends and we got to try most of the small plates a one or two items from the grill. Overall, good customer service, waiters friendly.
Sweetandyummie
Gorgeous restaurant that has a great ambience and vibe. The customer service is great and the menu has great variety. I suggest you grab a group of friends and order one of everything. I highly recommend the scallops and beef tartare.

We had a great evening. Service was amazing and everyone really friendly. Food tasted great - nothing to complain about and definitely will come back again!
Naomi Rheinberger
My first time dining at Nomad and after hearing much hype, it did not disappoint! The service from beginning to end was impeccable and being seated on the kitchen bench it was exciting to watch to food being cooked in front of my very eyes and the swift production line they have in place.<br/><br/>The haloumi was simply divine, I can't find a single fault as it dissolved in my mouth and the baby tomatoes created q tantalizing sauce around it. The baby octopus came a close second for favourite of the night followed by the chicken - the tiger prawns were nice, but the other dishes over powered them. <br/><br/>You can't leave without getting dessert, the cannoli had just the right amount of crunch and mouthwatering pipping while the Chocolate (mousse) was rich and perfectly complimented by the berry sauce.<br/><br/>Each dish was presented with absolute precision and care. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes on the menu.

We recently went to celebrate a friend's birthday with a group of 8. The waiter was quite inhospitable and made us feel really uncomfortable about our order. Even after I assured him that I would be happy with how I ordered it, he just wouldn't let it go. The roast suckling pig was so salty that my head hurt. It seemed like they gave us the bits at the end of the roast where all the salt came in direct contact with the flesh, it's quite annoying, because we were early, we got the crap cut. You would think that at an establishment such as this, they could afford to standardise their portions. But as it was a birthday celebration we didn't complain, so we don't know how they would have responded, maybe they would have been really great about it. I was pretty disappointed, because we were returning, having had an amazing time the first time we came in like 2014. But it's not the same. We booked like 4 days earlier, yet we got the table right next to the bathrooms which also had a view of the inside of the kitchen, and not in the nice way, we saw the floor and the chefs shoes, just not great. The staff were discussing the tables in plain sight, flinging there arms up in confusion and pointing. The service isn't very refined. I did not feel comfortable.

Really fantastic dining experience overall. $197 for 2 ppl before tip. We ordered 1 or 2 dishes too many between two of us. The kingfish ceviche was magnificent. Runner up was cauliflower and I'm always a fan of lamb. Really appreciated the wine recommendations and excellent service as always.

We came here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary ( I know, so adorable :)) We both really appreciated friendly and helpful staff, and everything we had was incredible, but also a bit pricey. (but hey, it's our anniversary, we are allowed to spend a small fortune on a meal once a year) :)

Came here for the second time recently and the food was just as good as I remembered. Everything was full of taste and presented beautifully. By making an 8.30 reservation we could relax and enjoy our food without rushing. The anchovies and ricotta to start were a real highlight, and probably the best I've ever had. The lamb we got for the main fell off the bone, and was incredible. Will come back!

Nomad is one of my favourite venues in Sydney. I've been here a few times now and the food is always spectacular. The interiors and ambience complement the food and the wine selection is on point. Service is usually outstanding, however unfortunately this visit the waitress seemed to be overwhelmed and forgetful. Every dish made up for it though, and between the lamb that melted in my mouth to the anchovies and ricotta starter, I was one very very happy customer.

Loved the food here, zucchini flowers, octopus, clams and suckling pig all delicious. The pork was a bit over salted the only minor complaint otherwise outstanding. Service was friendly, will definitely be returning. Bill was under $100 per head which is quite reasonable

Had my bday dinner here. Had the set course meals with a large group and they catered well to everyone's personal needs and preferences. Food was in great portions and delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive. Decor was nice, warm and open. Would definitely return!

Something about Nomad didn't work for me. The produce is excellent, the wines impressive, the staff very good, and the atmosphere cool yet inviting. But I just didn't find any of the flavour combinations spectacular

Located at the heart of Surry Hills, Australia.  Nomad has been a hip since it has opened.  A restaurant in Surry Hills never fails with its atmosphere and drinks. Smoked Brisket Empanada – NOMAD Hot SauceAmbience & Interior – 9 aud each. Scallop – Chorizo, Pickled Apple – 9 aud each x2

Had some really nice experience in Nomads Surry Hills with my bestiesđŸ‘đŸ‘ŹđŸ‘« Good looking and tasty food😍 Do not have to wait for a long time and the services are pretty nice and fast. Pulling out the big guns for Nomad and rating it 5..!!!<br/>Immaculate service, attention to detail, stunning open plan interior design & an awesome fish bowl of a kitchen.<br/>I was lucky enough to be seated on the bar overlooking the kitchen and spent my night in awe of the pastry chef. Her skills were so impressive, no wonder, as she had previously been working at The Fat Duck whilst it was open in Melbourne.<br/>It was like dinner with a show "foodie" style.<br/>GO AND DO IT, it's worth the money..!!!!

Cannot recommend this place enough! Every dish is filled with such flavour and presentation is immaculate. Absolutely loved the squid, texture was perfect without being overcooked. Also the signature desert 'the chocolate' is one of a kind. The peanut butter centre, and soft chocolate coating is a match made in heaven. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back

Mulloway was the star of this dining experience, and while all the plates were super tasty it was the service (their female sommelier) that made this one of the best dining experiences I have had in Sydney. Funny, authentic and knew exactly when to leave us alone, as well as when not to. Great food and ambience with service that went even further.

Had a dinner at this place on my first day in the amazing city of Sydney . Walking through Gorgeous streets and pretty landscapes we found this restaurant using Zomato's recommendations . The high rating given by previous reviewers is truly justified . We have to wait for our dinner table for an hour but in the meanwhile we were offered the space in bar area with limited starter food option which we grabbed right away. Apart from wine , we also offered beer and for starters we ordered okra , wood fired sourdough and scallops . Crispy okra with black salt was awesome . So was sourdough. My colleagues also liked the scallops . For main course I didn't stay but my team members were appreciative of dinner food also. According to them , highlight of the dinner was wild cauliflower ( with cashew nuts). If you are vegetarian - this place is just perfect for you . Service was excellent and ambience was just perfect . Going to visit again to try more dinner dishes .

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. But I think it maybe because of the personal taste preference. I am not that into Nomad. But the lamb was definitely a highlight. I rarely eat medium cooked lamb cause it has muttony odour. This lamb dish had totally taken the smell, kept the juice in the meat so well. I also like the halloumi cheese! Cheesy and softy! Might come back to try the wagyu beef as my friend said it is pretty good!

I do love this restaurant. If you really looking for fancy restaurant, delicious food, good wine&cocktails, yummy dessert...I mean you wanna satisfied with all, Nomad is place to go!!

After hearing wonderful things about Nomad I decided to have a dinner here with a group of friends and have the chefs selection. The staff had attitude (like they were better than the guests) snappy and rude remarks through the evening. The food was ok, not amazing but but it wasn't terrible. Hoping I came on a bad night because I think they need to reeducate themselves on the word hospitality...

Nomad is highly rated on Zomato with a 3.8/5 rating. I came here with a good gal friend and we had very high expectations after also hearing good feedback from our friends. I quite liked the Nomad single letter on the wine glasses. My friend and I toasted over a glass of barbera. My friend is a huge fan of churros so we ordered the savory churros ($18, top photo) which was a goat's cheese churros with truffle honey. They looked amazing! They tasted a bit bland though without the goat's cheese and honey. The churros were nice and crispy though - just bland on their own! More goat's cheese and honey are required. Perhaps more for the subtle palatte.

Bright and lively atmosphere, excellent wine and menu, efficient and friendly service. We had the oysters, scallops, lamb and Brussels sprouts finished off with the cannoli. Wine was the highlight. Beautiful big warehouse space. Spelling mistake in menu "lamb rumb" forgiven.

I've been here a few times, and hadn't really been blown away yet so I decided to try again with the larger of the degustation menu. Meh ... The deserts were the best part hands down... And I am not someone who normally eats dessert. As for the meal: the goats cheese Churos were nice but its also not hard to succeed with fried bread and cheese. My steak was ordered med-rare and came out on the medium- medium well side... Considering this was the "bulk of the meal" to fill me up it was very disappointing. Would go back for a birthday party or get together; just prob not for a date night again.

It's taken me a while but I've finally dined at Nomad in Surry Hills. The one hatted restaurant serves contemporary cuisine with Mediterranean influences. Watch my YouTube video below for a quick overview:. There's a strong focus on locally grown produce that extends even to the wine list. Nomad features a lot of snacks and small plates as the menu is designed to be shared.

I simply can't find fault with Nomad. Exceptional food and excellent service. A restaurant deserving of multiple visits and great reviews..

Bianca: I am embarrassed to say it took me as long as it did to visit Nomad, a restaurant come, bakery, cheese maker and wine cellar. With a clear focus on the ‘flavours of the Mediterranean’, it really was an amalgamation of quality Australian produce driven by a passion for nourishing and wholesome food.

The Goats Cheese Churros with truffle honey ($18) was the star of the night. The savoury goats cheese churros were super fluffy inside with a nice crisped surface. To have a truffle honey yoghurt dip with it was just pure brilliance. The balanced combination of sweet, creamy, sour and earthy flavours worked a treat. There's a reason why this dish stayed on the menu since its debut on day one. We enjoyed it so much that we had it for dessert too!

Wonderful atmosphere! Loved the decor, particularly at the bar. The staff were lovely and helpful, not the pretentious type. Meals well worth the money!

Easily my favourite restaurant in sydney. <br/><br/>Been 3 times. Impressed every time. <br/><br/>The service here is probably the best I've experienced. As knowledgeable as any fine diner, but with a warm touch. Jokes here and there, always attentive, happy to recommend. Sommelier comes past whenever you're done with your drink and talks you through what to have next (gets dangerous if you're on a budget, but awesome when you're not). <br/><br/>The food here is beautiful. Everything I've had was delicious and innovative. The house made cheeses and cured meats always impress. <br/><br/>Would happily go back every week if my wallet allowed.

My Nomad review seems to have disappeared down the plug hole with urbanspoon (gurgle gurgle). My enduring memory however is of a really great dining experience. We sat at the chef's table, which was a lot of fun, watching them prepare the meals, including some absolutely gorgeous desserts. Everything we ate was marvelous, and this is definitely a restaurant for my special occasion list.
Look Mum No Hands
With the exposed wooden beams and ventilation ducts that snake throughout the ceiling of this beautifully ambient Surry Hills mess hall, I find myself wondering whether or not I’ve ended up on the set of the next Justin Timberlake music video, rather than Sydney’s culinary institution, Nomad. These reflections are quickly quashed over a glass of 2008 Bella Ridge Estate GSM ($18).

Nomad in Surry Hills will blow you away with their house made charcuterie and pickles, the goats cheese churros with truffle honey or the BBQ Wagyu Skirt.

There has certainly been something of an Australia wide boom in restaurants focusing on the kind of upper-mid level share plate style cooking served at Nomad, however few restaurants in this class can claim to be quite as accomplished. Its a fine balancing act making food that is paradoxically hearty and rustic in its focus on wood fire cooking but undeniably cheffy at the same time, and Nomad seem to do it with an impressive effortlessness. Choosing the Chef's Menu revealed a well balanced selection of dishes, with the house made Haloumi and the heavily barbecued Cauliflower being just as meaty as the awesome Lamb Neck that served as our main. Service was friendly and professional, and oenophiles would be well pleased by the highly apposite wine list. This was definitely a restaurant worthy of its hype, and considering current head chef Jacqui Challinor has only been at the reins for little over 6 months it is all the more impressive. Highly recommended.

Nomad in Surry Hills, Sydney is a place serving really good food with a difference – some interesting combinations like Moreton bay bugs with pork jowl, and goat cheese churros. I really didn’t know what to expect but I was very pleased with this meal. The BBQ Wagyu Tongue with mojo Verde was a must despite my dining partner’s resistance (in the end he tried it and liked it), and the pork chop, while visually quite plain, was cooked to perfection
so succulent, served with a fab salad of cabbage, creamy ricotta and radish.

Surry Hills has come a long way recently and is now known as one of Sydney’s hottest foodie destinations. It’s home to some of the most creative dining spots in Sydney. No stranger to this list is Nomad in Foster Street, the constantly packed out restaurant  which has recently been awarded a Chef’s Hat in the Good Food Guide.

We had family dinner at this restaurant and the food was really delicious. I especially liked tabbouleh with roasted grains, it was amazing. I wish they just had more vegan choices in the menu, but at least they could customise the dishes to make it vegan.

I'm not sure whether they have the best scallop in Sydney by all accounts since I'm new to here but, indeed, it's quite nice with radish, highly recommend! Wagyu skirt with mushroom was good as well. Providing a VERY cozy atmosphere especially on the bar counter, great marriage between nice dinning place & bar, destination to have food and talk with friends, attached to my photos. <br/>Maybe the only demerit is...the drink list is a lo-b short for a nice bistro.

Great place and decor with modern flair, the food was average some were cooked well and some were overcooked (maybe they were busy) my steak was overcooked and dry as an example.<br/>We came to Nomad because Christine Manfield had a dessert showcase for her new book 'Dessert divas' the dessert itself was good but i had it at her old place "Universal" and it was far better. Most of the dessert were room temperature, if it was cold it would have been perfect, also the gaytime gone nuts has shrunk a little and not as intense as before. <br/>Well she did seem busy rushing around and saying "Hi" to friends might played a factor.Overall nothing was GREAT or enticing to return, but I did enjoy the Liver parfait.

Boyfriend made reservations for this one. This place is busy! We sat on the kitchen counter where we could watch the chefs in action. Food portions were generous and quality of the food was great. I had wanted to order the tasting menu as i love variety but was told there was a min person order so that was a bummer.

Been twice here now for lunch meetings. Now recommending to colleagues that we don't go as the staff are so rude. Food is ok but there is no room for poor customer service when there are better options. I don't know why some restaurants hire people who have no joy for their job.

Nomad is a great restaurant which takes service to the next level. I walked in on a Friday night without a booking and was seated at the bar while I waited for my friends to arrive. My friends were delayed for an hour, however, the waiter paid me special attention and ensured that I was looked after for the entire time. <br/><br/>The space is really awesome and it does not feel crowded or cramped even when the restaurant is packed with people. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend the Hommous, Morton Bay Bugs, Okra and the chocolate creme dessert which was amazing!
Libby Cupitt
Great food but average service. Not attentive and quite rude. Topped off by the server circling the area to write a tip . Really!? I always tip but that just irritated me. I feel sorry for the chefs that slogging away doing a great job that deserve the tip but didn't want to reward that kind of behaviour.

A flawless winter Wednesday night at Nomad. Sat at the "Chefs table" (expensive description of sitting at a bar overlooking the kitchen hands squeezing sauce on plates) but that was the ONLY niggle. Service was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable without being OTT or new BFF. Champagne followed by a Vic Pinot Noir, and we shared the bugs (possibly the dish of the night, melty velvety bites of salty sea goodness), the silky roasted eggplant  with a nice spiced yoghurt and the seriously excellent tongue (BBQ bacon'y flavors mmmm). Then did the Porchetta, PERFECTLY cooked and a good portion, and the "cauliflower cheese" which had such a a freshening lemon element, and some nuts for texture. Chocolate coconut thing for dessert but I was so drunk by then (4 hours later) it might have been bad, but we thought it was heaven. We never felt rushed, and we never felt ignored. While not exactly a bargain, it was worth every penny, so much work had gone into every single dish. Would highly recommend for anyone, any night

Nomad is probably my favourite restaurant in Sydney at the moment! Their foie gras and chicken liver parfait is delicious and this was the dish that I couldn't stop thinking about when I went the first time. The second and third time I came back the parfait is my go to dish. I could have it all to myself! Other standouts include the white anchovies ( i usually don't like anchovies), goat's cheese churros, the lamb neck and the meringue. I honestly can come back and order the same dishes over and over again.<br/><br/>The waiters are very friendly and well informed of their food. If you as a group of 2 get a seat around the kitchen bar. Very impressive watching the chefs!

Always packed, always humming, and I'm pleased to report that standards in the kitchen have been more than maintained since the departure of Nathan Sasi. Special kudos too for curating an all-Australian wine list. If only more local restaurants did the same.

Managed to make a reservation for 14 people a day before dining to celebrate my 18th and it didn't disappoint! The restaurant has a lovely buzz and ambience that set the mood. Ordered the 6 course set menu and all my friends thoroughly enjoyed it! They catered surprisingly well for my vegan dietary requirements. Appreciate how they got creative with the food. Serving sizes were generous and were served in appropriate intervals. The service overall was good but could have been better- felt a bit neglected. But this is definitely the place for an intimate get together. Would go here again and recommend it for an affordable fancy food experience!!!!

Great food, pricey but a good dining experience. This place is surprisingly large, the decor was quite charming and minimalist at the same time with a wide open kitchen area. Service was lovely, if not slightly rehearsed. we had the moreton bay bugs which was a generous portion that was flash fried, it was sweet with the right amount of crunch, i enjoyed the goat cheese churros with its distinctive flavour, haloumi was also one of the best I've tasted, barramundi was perfectly cooked but what ended up being my favourite dish of the night was the cauliflower salad with a medley of crunchy nuts and cream. Valrona chocolate dessert also had a thumbs up from us. With a glass of wine, it ended being $92 per person so this was definitely pricey as i usually expect to pay anywhere between $60-70 for this type of restaurant, in saying that we mostly chose seafood so maybe thats why.

Another unmissable restaurant when you’re in Sydney is Nomad , nestled in the uber hip suburb of Surry Hills. Brought to us by Rebecca Littlemore and her partner Al Yazbek (former Toko owners – another one of my favs.) Nomad is a gorgeous restaurant and cellar, celebrating the best of local & regional produce and wines. A large, warehouse space with stripped back brick walls and polished concrete, Scandinavian-inspired, smooth blond wood furniture, fire logs packed walls, and rows and rows of decorative pickles- this light-filled space is the perfect venue to enjoy great food with even great company. I’m instantly drawn to the large inked skull by the talented C. J. Hendry The seasonal menu is a well-curated spread of interesting, contemporary dishes with Middle-Eastern accents. Designed for sharing, their housemade breads, cheeses and charcuterie is a must-try! Rich, creamy f oie gras & chicken liver parfait w. radish, Iranian plum & sourdough Freshly shucked oysters w. cucumber & Arak Spicy Moreton Bay bugs w. chilli, smoked pork jowl, espelette pepper Tender lamb rump w. Moroccan eggplant salad, and sheeps yoghurt BBQ carrots w. fetta, dukkah and labneh Such artistic plating with the flavours to match! And the desserts: A great write up here in A Magazine if you’re keen to find out more! No one answers phone. No one calls back.. The restaurant may be great, but my first experience is no one answers the phone and no one calls back to return your call. As far as I'm concerned that's a deal breaker for me. I'm dining somewhere else. If my business isn't important enough to return my call, my business isn't important enough. I hope your waiters are more attentive. I'm going somewhere else. Arrividerci.

SOME dishes amazing. I must say my first few visits here I was astounded at how good the food and wine was but I must have picked well. Recently I went and decided to ordered off 'The Grill' section and ordered he roast pork at $38. Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying that at all if it is cooked well, however it was one tony thin slice of a rolled roast joint and the fat was not rendered whatsoever, literally inedible. However I must say the parfait, split bbq prawns, tabbouleh and barbecue cauliflower are some of the best I've ever tasted. The wine and service is also awesome.

Great food, terrible service. We went there for my partners 40th Birthday, after asking for a table at the front 2 weeks prior to our booking, I arrived to be sat at the back corner near the toilets. It took 45 minutes to get offered any drinks, we seized the moment to order food at the same time as we didn't know when the waiter would return. Our food arrived at our table 10 minutes before our drinks did and we ordered a bottle of wine, not cocktails or anything like that. Overall the service was terrible and kinda ruined the night. Food is great, though there are lots of great places in Sydney especially in this area. Only go here if you are not easily frustrated with bad service.

Food: Textures, flavours, presentation and sizes could not be faulted - a beautiful menu with something to please anyone. Drinks: A wine list not to be reckoned with - all wines served can also be purchased in store. Vibes: Decor is incredible - modern and beautiful low lighting. Service felt a bit forced and rehearsed.  Verdict: I would visit again in a heartbeat. The tasting menu, at $65 pp, is great value considering the ability to try so indulge in copious amounts.

Also FYI, we got a bittttt overexcited over the menu and may have (most definitely) over ordered and we are well aware of this so please don't freak over how much food there is in this post. We did end up doggy bagging a dish. It's just so rare we want absolutely EVERYTHING on a menu it's so hard to choose! The struggle is real!

Fans of Australian chef and culinary ambassador Christine Manfield revel in delight as the Ex-Universal Chef strings together a collaboration with Nomad and her newest release 'Dessert Divas' for a 4 day short pop-up event from the 29th to the 1st Nov. Upon hearing of the jovial news, I was quick to make my reservations at the restaurant for lunch, promises of ample sunlight (for photography) and unceasing opportunities to throw star-gazed looks at the dessert section drawing me in. Despite my one-track minded driving force, Nomad has always been on my lists of places to try in Sydney for it's Modern Australian cuisine with a Mediterranean flair. If you, like me, enjoy sharing your dishes, then this establishment is a perfect venue for plate shifting, spoon dipping, generous allocation of delicious resources, encouraged ever so slightly by the large hallways and convivial atmosphere in the room. Service staff are good humoured and polished, even the kitchen staff; restrained and silent through their purposeful motions during service. No debacles, nor meltdowns. Our appetiser order of Arabic Beef Tartare with potato chips ($21) saunters its way to the table; served ingloriously in a large steel kitchen bowl, flaunting a D-I-Y concept, the components are fastidiously plopped into position, chips on the side and a bottle of hot sauce at our disposal. Coming across as a knockoff, we mixed in the lot with malcontent, questioning the contribution of the dollop of hummus and adding a heavy splash of hot sauce to up to rev up its spiritless structure. Then came the 50 minute wait where we debated the likeliness of our fresh lobsters being flung up from the ocean and the hurried butchery of a baby lamb for its prized ribs. The wait was long and tedious, the impatient look on my partner's face evolving from pure annoyance to somewhat of a killer stare. The cajoling from the waitresses passing through our table doing nothing to ease the tension. Finally, relief came in the for

Nomad is probably one of my favourite new places for 2014. Sydney, this is how you do it. The Sydney dining scene is seeing a resurgence of 'the wine bar' *cheers*. Changes in liquor licensing laws some years ago have been met with Gen-Yers spending their (few) dollars on a curated glass of vino. Places like  Monopole ,  10 William St , and  Wine Library  are leading the way.  Nomad  is a newie following suit in Surry Hills with an emphasis on Australian wine. Who new we could hold our own  A design lover's paradise; the sun drenched restaurant/cellar door Credit:  Broadsheet Sydney I first walked past this warehouse space (formerly the site of the Spence & Lyda showroom) some months ago, and was  curious as to what was opening. By the end of last year, Nomad was born in true style, reminiscent of restaurants in NYC or Northern Europe. The copious blonde timber finishes and flashy central kitchen make this 150 seater sure to impress. The charcuterie hanging in all its glory in the custom built drying room doesn't hurt either. It ticks all thos

Sometimes a restaurant in a converted warehouse can feel like just another restaurant in a converted warehouse and other times it can feel like Nomad in Surry Hills. Nomad has all the ingredients of a hipster restaurant, exposed ceilings, masses of pickles in jars, roughly sanded brick walls, bearded male waiters in brown aprons and tight white t-shirts. You might wonder if maybe it hadn’t been a warehouse before at all. Maybe it had been a pristine office until the Nomad crew had arrived with belt sanders to “distress” the place. At first glance, it felt like we’d seen it all before, however it quickly became clear that Nomad just nods at all the hipster restaurant cliches then rises above them. Our waitress seemed genuinely excited to be there. She helped us out with a recommendation for a Nick O’Leary shiraz ($74) then offered to “MacGyver” our table as it was rocking wildly. We also drew on her expertise when deciding how much to order. With a tempting menu of snacks, small plates,

Sometimes, not everything goes to plan and you just have to resort to Plan B but it’s the best feeling when other options turn out to be beyond expectations and that’s just what happened when K and I were turned down by a fully booked restaurant one night for dinner. After exploring a few options, we called Nomad Restaurant to reserve seats for two just ten minutes before expected time of arrival. Their only availability was at the counter near the kitchen, which is always the best seat for foodies anyway. Being a big fan of Rockpool myself, I was confident that I would enjoy chef Nathan Sasi’s food, who was trained at Rockpool. We already had dessert planned for the night so we were trying hard trying to control the number of dishes we ordered. There were so many tempting dishes on the menu and took us a while to decide to share between us two small dishes, a large dish and a salad. The first dish to arrive was the BBQ wagyu tongue served with mojo verde ($16). I only learnt after that this was one of Nomad’s signature dishes and I could totally understand why. The wagyu tongue were soaked in sweet and sour sauce, then sliced very thinly and chargrilled until the edges were crispy but inside remained soft. Jalepeno in the mojo verde provided a kick of heat and lifted the dish to another level. Definitely recommend ordering this one. We were surprised that the next dish to arrive was our Moreton Bay Bugs  ($37) as we were still waiting for our other small dish but I was too distracted by the bay bugs to enquire about our missing dish. Served in light chilli oil, smoked pork jowl and crispy espelette pepper ($37), the bugs were beautifully cooked with the centre being still slightly translucent. The chilli oil was flavourful and we happily soaked it all up with the house made woodfired sourdough that our waiter offered us. The only downside would be that I felt guilty from eating the lardo. I felt slightly healthier

Nomad Surry Hills is a restaurant that’s been on my Sydney list since it opened. Drinks wise the focus is local, with a small range of Australian craft beers and a very impressive, completely Australian wine list that features many smaller independent winemakers. Moving on to the food, it’s all about quality ingredients and perfecting the art of having control of as much of the process between sourcing the ingredients and putting them onto a plate as possible.

Oh Sydney, you funny thing. You sure know how to get excited about a new restaurant. No sooner have the doors swung open on a shiny new restaurant and you’re queuing ‘round the block or hanging desperately at the bar panting for your table.
Gourmet Belly
On the recommendation of our very lovely waiter, we ordered the chicken and it was worth deviating plan (I mean, who orders chicken when you go out?). The pork was the only dish that really didn’t wow me. It was a little dry and the power of the flavours just didn’t punch out like I had hoped. However, the accompanying cheddar gratin was superb.

Posted on 11:00 amby Amy zhong with No comments I have always been a bit sceptical when a restaurant brands themselves as modern Australian, to me Iconic Australian is the good ol’BBQ. But in the last couple of years, modern Australian has rapidly emerged and left a foot in the dining room door. So what is modern Australian you ask? I believe modern Australian is all about the fresh produces Australia is blessed with, our abundance and easy access to seafood, fruits and veges as well as our native plants and herbs. This concept is deeply inscribed at Restaurant nomad, asides producing their own wines( they have a nomad cellar door) their menu is focussed on seasonal fresh produces showcasing some of Australia’s finest. Nomad This may be a big claim, but Nomad has had to be one of the best restaurants I have visited in the last few months. The menu is diverse and fresh and some dishes showcase a distinct Middle Eastern flair. The venue is spacious and moody, it is decked out with a cellar door feel with plenty of glass to allow natural light in. This would be a perfect venue for a cosy group gathering or date night.

This restaurant is so hot right now. Come here for an amazing wine list, modern cuisine and some 8 chefs on hand to please the constant packed out restaurant. The restaurant has the "wow" factor when it comes to a compelling menu, great service, impressive ambience and top notch wine list. I was fortunate to be able to get a last minute booking, being a diner for one... For those who like their meat, you won't be disappointed here. Yet the vegetarian selections are also compelling (think fried chickpeas and woodroasted beetroot). Fresh seasonal produce is the emphasis in an ever changing menu with the Smoked Pork Empanadas with harissa hot sauce (above) an amazing dish. Other outstanding small plates include the Foie Gras & Chicken Liver Parfait with radish, Iranian plum and the BBQ Wagyu Tongue with mojo verde.   When you enter Nomad you are struck by the lack of obvious signage of the restaurant on the outside - I love nondescript entrances.
The Napoli Alert
They have spent an awful lot on a terrific fit out, converting what was once a furniture shop into a welcoming, spacious restaurant – the cured meats hanging which you see as soon as you walk in, the bar seating around the kitchen, and various shaped and well spaced tables.  The name instead refers to the “hunting and gathering” food to table philosophy, with the kitchen run by a seasoned professional (Nathan Sasi) who has worked for big names Neil Perry and Heston Blumenthal. The menu reflects Nathan’s travels and experience and you can see the global influence. Service was great, an extremely bubbly and friendly waitress (in fact I thought she was going to slip her phone numb
A Foodie's Joy
Yay! My first post of 2014 is about a great new restaurant in Surry Hills. My meal at Nomad occurred a couple of weeks before Christmas and as usual, I am a little behind with my posts. By the way, my new year's resolution is to be more on the ball with my blog posts. One can only try but no promises! :) Nomad has a 2 session seating policy with fixed times. Not sure if it is only for Saturdays but as mentioned before this is becoming rather prevalent. I have a friend who dislikes this policy intensely and absolutely refuses to go to restaurants who has this. I actually don't have an issue about it and ultimately I am there to enjoy the meal and the company. How do you feel about restaurants with 2 fixed time sessions in one evening? When I walked into Nomad, I was struck by the openness of the restaurant. There was a warehouse like feel to it. It was like being in a loft. I loved it. Everything was open, even the kitchen. On one side was the stack of wine bottles and next to it was th

Everyone on the table raved about the scallop tartare, I usually don’t enjoy raw scallop much but the salsa and scallop combination actually blew me away. Absolutely delicious and the ingredients used were fresh.

Nathan Sasi from Nomad in Surry Hills Sydney was charming and entertaining as he made mortadella from scratch - we saw it all from go to whoa! He showcased skills from bygone days with flair!

Thus we decided to wander around to see what other restaurants were nearby. Lo and behold, with very little signage, sat Nomad. We were fortunate enough that upon querying for tables, they informed us that a table for two had just cancelled but we would have to leave before 830pm. That was fine by us as by this stage we were pretty ravenous. We sat down, peroused the short menu and quickly made our selections. The bar seating Woodfired sourdough with black salt butter - $2.50 pp - we started off with some crusty sourdough bread to acc

Nomad. Now they've tickled my fancy for a long long while. Pickles, Mediterranean food, gutsy arrangements of sharing plates. Right up my alley. House-made pickles line the restaurant. From the get go, you know it is, from top to tail, very much one of those modern industrial-looking 'hip' ones.  Timber beams and ventilation pipes, man-sized barrels, open kitchen for the curious uninitiated  to peer curiously into and bare tables. You know you're in one of those places.  Oysters | cucumber, arak  5ea Whilst it lacks the chilling properties of serving on ice, there's something about serving oysters on rocks and pebbles that makes it seem so natural. The oysters themselves are clean and pristine, served in a beautiful  Tetsuya-esque  vinaigrette. Goats Cheese Churros | truffled honey 15 Looking a little thin and shrivelled, their churros hardly impress the eye but provide the perfect medium for which to dunk into zingy whipped curd and earthy sweet truffle honey. ...it's the perfect spot to grab a glass of vino and some pretty spectacular food to dine on. The staff are absolutely lovely and are more than happy to share their enthusiastic recommendations on what to order. It's all about share dishes here, and the staff will give guidance on how much to order so that everyone gets a taste - especially important for some items which are a bit tricky to split.  Scallops with cauliflower puree, lardo, anchovy Perfectly cooked scallops, sitting on a bed of creamy cauliflower puree. Love. Goats cheese churros with truffle honey These freshly fried churros, paired with sweet truffle honey goats cheese are extremely addictive. Even though I'm a super sweet tooth, I would take Nomad's churros over the dessert version any day! BBQ wagyu tongue, mojo verde The super tender beef tongue

...I’m having a love affair with it. Though it took me 18 months to step in there. It’s because I don’t think I’m cool.... I was scared to step into this hip happening restaurant that has Sydney raving and booked out. I thought 3 weeks before my Saturday booking was enough but all I could get was a 6pm service. Hot tip
book in advance... You know I love a place when I’m a repeat customer in a short period.
Excuse Me Waiter
We watched the chefs at work in the open kitchen which is at the centre of the restaurant and soon enough we’re dining on their incredible Smoked Pork Empanada, which have a deceptively simple and crumbly exterior but are oozing with flavour inside. Paired with the harissa hot sauce (which has a kick, but isn’t that hot), it’s a winning way to start the meal.

... past piles of people sardined on Nomad’s window bench seats (the restaurant is quickly becoming known for its talented young chef, Aussie wine list and sleek, sun-filled interior) and slowed down on the approach to Bar H. The plan was to stop in for a snack and another glass or two of vino (any menu that includes the words ‘lardo’, ‘marrow’ and ‘foie gras’ is fine by me), but the tiny space was packed to the rafters, so we journeyed onwards to Izakaya Fujiyama. By this stage I had taken to referring to our next destination as “only 950 metres away, according to Google Maps”, as opposed to “we’ll be there in 17 minutes on foot”. Already vagued-out from overconsumption, BF was none the wiser. We walked past El Loco (apparently the crowd of young people spilling out i

...Known for its cured meats, cheeses, and a ground-up approach to its menu, Nomad boasts a pedigreed head chef – who has trained at Rockpool and cooked for Heston Blumenthal – as well as foodie infrastructure like a built in cheese room. Cheese room? Be still my beating heart. But we were there for Good Food Month, and shall not be distracted by lingering dreams of cured meat and cheese!! Wood-roasted snapper with wild fennel butter, spring vegetables and shanklish For Good Food Month, they’ve put together a lunch deal: for $38, you get wood-roasted snapper with wild fennel butter, a salad of spring vegetables and shanklish , a drink (wine, beer or juice/soft drink), and coffee or tea to finish. I chose the blood orange juice, which I just assumed would come out of a bottle somewhere. Nope. When they said fresh, they meant freshly squeezed . Very cool. And very respectable. But what about the snapper? The wood firing gave it a lovely smokiness, and a crisp skin that stayed crispy even as the fennel butter melted. Very nicely seasoned, and even though snapper isn’t my favourite fish, I can’t fault the execution and lovely balance of flavours. The spring salad with shanklish – which is a sheep’s milk cheese rolled in a herb mix (in this case, middle eastern zaartar) – was a surprise favourite, with the creamy/crumbly cheese coating each leaf, neither overpowering nor shrinking away into the background, again speaking to the sophistication in executing balance. The staff were very helpful, and around without being in-your-face, which speaks to the quality of service. Sad that I didn’t get a chance to try all the cured meats and cheese, but there’s always next time! Nomad 16 Foster Street Surry Hills, NSW 2010 Phone: 02 9280 339

...Nomad is a GREAT restaurant with terrific food (and wine). The space is cavernous by anyone's definition and you'd think in a vast room of cement floors, high exposed ceilings, brick walls and wooden tables it would be overbearingly loud. But it's not. There's some crazily good acoustic shenanigans going on here as the space is really very quite. The music is set at just the right volume, and even when the space fills to its capacity of 150 people everything is...hushed. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and things just hum along at a nice volume. We start off with an order of woodfired Ssurdough with black salt butter ($2

We dug straight into the food girl and wood fire, starting with the wood roasted bone marrow with parsley and horseradish salad, grilled toast (AUD30). This was to0 die for! But then again, I am such a sucker for bone marrow (!) and 3 bone marrow was not enough for 5 hungry adults, especially when we ALL LOVE bone marrow! It was delicious and the horseradish salad was a wonderful complement.

Foie gras and chicken liver parfait is every bit as rich and decadent and you could hope for. It's smooth on the tongue but a party on the palate, elegantly balanced in flavour, creaminess and a sweet lingering finish.

Nomad opened late last year and is a pretty cool addition to a busy Sydney food scene. It’s a cellar door in the city with great food co-owned and operated by Rebecca Littlemore and Al Yazbek. Head chef Nathan Sasi is passionate about local produce and presents this to customers in a way that lets it shine.

Sydney is your go-to city. Nomad in Surry Hills is one of those places; it has also been on my radar for quite some time. First, you have owners Rebecca Littlemore and Al Yazbek setting up a cellar door right in the middle of Sydney with a collection of good quality and underrepresented Australian wines. You then have Head Chef Nathan Stasi (ex-Rockpool and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal) who pickles, cures, smokes, ferments and dries everything he can get his hands on to whip up a Middle Eastern-influenced by Littlemore’s travels and Yazbek’s

I was smitten by Nomad on first appearances alone. Drawn into the restaurant the first time by familiar faces in the Foster Street window counter seats, it was a joy to marvel at such an ambitious set-up: a bustling and welcoming open kitchen; a dedicated cheese and charcuterie room on one side; and multi-faceted dining arrangements spread around the former warehouse space. Charcuterie and cheese room On return another night to the luxuriously vast restaurant, filled with covetable furniture and pretty crockery, we nabbed one of the last seats for two, sans booking, before a walk-in waitlist formed. Sitting at the wide drinks bar, a full section away from the kitchen counter seats, it was some of the most ample tabletop space I've ever experienced – for dining tables generally, let alone a countertop. It's also a good perch to watch the happenings of the bar, front dining space, walk-in crowd, and yonder kitchen with a glimpse of the long group tables around the side. Wine and water Th

Fantastic food, wine, service and vibe!. First time going to Nomad after having lots of friends recommend it both for wine and food. We went and were not disappointed! The venue itself looks great and the service was exceptional. Fantastic range of wine which the sommeliers are happy to talk through with you, based on your food choices or just on what you like. The food was amazing, and better yet caters to paleo, allergies and quirks really extensively. Staff knew their stuff and the entire experience was just top class.<br/><br/>Highly highly recommended!

Everything about Nomad is Spot. On.. We dined here last month. <br/><br/>Our senses were heightened and our faces bared grand smiles, from our first steps into this buzzing restaurant, to our regretful shuffle out. <br/><br/>All staff were extremely nice, informative, and accommodating, even on the busiest night of the week! The food speaks for itself. It is amazing, from the produce to the flavours, which are incredibly well combined and thought out. Even the most 'simple' dish is an explosion of YES. <br/><br/>The decor and ambiance is tres-warehouse-chic, and everything you want it to be + more. <br/><br/>I urge you to take your taste buds to an establishment that knows how to feed. <br/><br/>LOVE IT! I cannot wait to go back.

AMAZING!!! Delicious food and impeccable service with an awesome wine list to boot. We were informed that the head chef is moving on so let's hope that some of the favourite menu items don't move with him, i.e. the parfait and goats cheese churros.
That Girl
It was delish! Savoury churro are a must. I also had a lovely chat with the pastry chef because we were seated at the bar watching the kitchen. She was happy to chat dessert and more... Made the experience that little bit more special. Would go back in a heartbeat if I lived in Sydney. Hopefully one pops up in Melbs soon!

I've been here several times. The food is amazing and the decor is outstanding. Staff are also top notch. Highly recommended

Amazing food. Great dĂ©cor and it’s a lot bigger than it looks from outside. The waitress explained the menu suggesting that the mains are really big and not to order too many. Luckily we did order 4 mains as they weren’t as big as expected. Most of the mains also came with a side of veges which wasn’t explained so we were glad when our bbq carrots didn’t arrive. Although I would’ve preferred these to the butter poached radishes which were watery and not that tasty. Everything else we tried was delicious. The pork belly/pulled pork was my fave. The lamb rump and bbq chicken were also great. The skirt steak was perfectly cooked but not as flavoursome as the other dishes and came with a slightly anchovy tasting sauce which we weren’t a fan of. Would love to come back and try their homemade charcuterie and goats cheese churros.

Accommodated four of us, peckish between drinks, without booking on a Friday night - straight to a table. Service was prompt and pleasant, nice atmosphere. Menu was interesting, food was delicious and good wine list. Will be back to try some more dishes and cocktails, and make more of a night of it.

Were happy to wait an hour for a table as we were up from Melbourne and visited the restaurant after a recommendation. To serve starters, mains and sides all at the same time was unusual. In fact, in the wrong order was very strange. The liver pate was magnificent. The rest was average at best. Over pickled, over spiced and sons of the flavour combinations simply didn't work. In less than an hour we were back in our hotel contemplating how we could've spent our money more productively. Wouldn't go back. It was ordinary.

You must go!! Best Sydney restaurant. This restaurant is amazing. We went on a sat night and absolutely loved it. Having moved to Sydney from Melbourne I've been so devastated about lack of great restaurants and sick of Sydney showy wank with crap service. This is the opposite. The food is incredible, service A1 and atmosphere is warm and buzzy without being too loud. Every dish we ordered was fantastic, the lamb especially. 10 out of 10. Couldn't recommend this restaurant enough.
My Lil' Sydney
Nice place but it was very noisy and quite expensive for what is was. Would be worth trying it during the week instead of a Saturday evening. <br/>Small dishes for a large price.

Outstanding. I must say I heard from work mates that this was a restaurant to go to. Not disappointed . Service and food was top notch and the atmosphere makes for a great night.

I have eaten here before and loved it but having just eaten here on a Saturday night, it was only *OK* <br/><br/>The food was pretty good but the service was all over the shop. Served by about 8 different waiters & spent the first 15 minutes of our main course in a wine drought because nobody had noticed. <br/><br/>Not the staff's fault - some of them were fantastic - but a complete lack of systems on the floor. <br/><br/>Hard to see it keeping its hat at this rate.
Timrose123
The worst service in surry hills. I ate there last night and I could not believe how bad the service was. I'm a local and I had heard good things about this place, so this was such a disappointment. You have to try to get a waiter's attention for almost ten minutes to have your wine poured. Eventually I would stand up and bring the bottle over and do it myself. Our meal was served over 4 hours! For the first 1.5 hours, we ate some pickled vegetables and a tiny bowl of olives, with a loaf of very average chewy bread. By the time mains finally arrived, half of our party had gone home. Every waiter seemed to have real attitude, the food was mediocre, incredibly slow to be served and very overpriced. A great space and location, but a real wank of a restaurant - never again thanks.

Not as good as it should be. Most of the meal was very good and the service was pleasant.<br/>However the chacuterie was sweating when presented, looking as though it had spent some time under hot lights even though it arrived a few minutes after ordering. By the way, don't bother, The mortadella and one other were tasty but the others were not up to par.<br/><br/>Secondly the order was lost or the kitchen was so disorganized that the main course took a LONG time to arrive. It was difficult to know why.<br/><br/>With such competition, I would probably try somewhere else next time.

Nothing. It doesnt matter what dish came out.....the services was shocking...so it turned us off our meals

Be prepared to share your dishes. Upon ordering, the waiter went through the menu and recommended the dishes to try. With just the two of us, we wanted to try many more dishes however, I am trying this new thing where I dont over order. We decided to go for the grilled halloumi and roast pork. Both were very enjoyable. Would be happy to go back to try the other dishes.

Fabulous. Must go experience.

New York styling meets fresh Australian produce. Set in arguably one of the sexiest warehouse conversions in Surry Hills this place had me at hello. And then the wines had me at hellllloooooooooo and then the foie gras caused me to have a religious experience and vow to bring anyone that matters in my life to this place so they can experience it as well. Because giant rustic wine barrels. Because house made halloumi. Because feather light savoury churros. Because exposed beams. Bring a larger group so you can try ALL the things

Perfection on every level. My husband and I came here on a Monday night to celebrate a special occasion, as such we wanted to enjoy a lovely long evening out. Which is exactly what Nomad provided. The warehouse style architecture and large space was not only stunning but felt quite cosy and warm. The open kitchen and fairly full restaurant added some buzz and ambiance without being loud. The waitress was extremely helpful, we asked for a margarita even though it wasn't on the cocktail list and she happily obliged. She also happily gave us suggestions about our dinner choice. The style is very much sharing the meals, each meal came out separately, and perfectly timed. within a few minutes of one dish being finished and the plate being cleared the next came out. The food was divine (you must try the fried chickpeas...to die for!) the pork and charred cabbage with sweet potato gratin was also amazing, beautiful flavour combinations, rustically styled and so delicious. The chocolate cake for desert was stunning although i did see what looked like greek style doughnuts come out which has me wanting to go back to try.<br/>I would definitely recommend Nomad and am looking forward to returning again soon. keep in mind it is on the pricier side but the whole experience makes it completely worth it!!

Perfect. Nomad gets it right every time. Great space, great food, great staff. Dined here again last week and once again had a fantastic evening.

One of Sydney's finest.... I have had the pleasure of dining at Nomad in Surry Hills several times now and have to say that each time the experience has been outstanding. The food offering is second to none and most importantly, of an incredibly consistent quality. The wine selection is also fabulous with some truly stunning Australian drops on offer. The space is more than comfortable and somehow manages to seamless blend a New York feel with minimalist chic. For travelers and Sydney-siders alike, I couldn't recommend Nomad more highly.

What an amazing culinary experience!. I recently dined at Nomad for lunch and I have to say it was one of the best culinary experiences I've had in a very long time. The staff were very helpful and service was outstanding and we absolutely loved our waiter who suggested a selection of amazing Australian wines to match with our dishes. Highlights on the menu included moreton bay bugs, the haloumi salad, roast chicken and cauliflower salad! Absolutely delicious and highly recommend this place for all if you haven't already been. Good work to all the team at Nomad!

Amazing!. Really enjoyed my experience at Nomad. I had heard great things and it really met my expectations. The food was delicious and service very friendly and professional. Love the space as well, very unique.

A bit meh. After having to wait 3 weeks for a booking we were expecting great things from Nomad, unfortunately all in all it turned out a bit "meh". The positives were; good wine list (with the usual 50% mark up), attentive service. The negatives were all in the food, it was boring and even some dishes were a bit cold. Home cooks can easily produce this food, without the price tag.

I have never written a review before but absolutely felt compelled after our first experience at Nomad last night.<br/>Have never ever had such an unpleasant experience anywhere in the world than with the restaurant host Hector. A very rude and argumentative man who made myself and two guests feel horrible before we even sat down to start because we had asked for an extra chair to change the configuration of the table. We were 3 mums who wanted to sit closer together to be able to talk to each other. Just absurd that this became a major issue and the words that came out of Hector's mouth and the scolding we received. Still in shock. We definitely won't be returning and I'm sure Hector will be glad about that. Fair enough he may have had a bad day (not that he said he had, I'm trying to make up an excuse for him), but taking it out on customers is appalling. The worst attitude I have seen in hospitality in this city. And what's worst is that we are all going to remember Nomad for the wrong reasons as he overshadowed and really did ruin our night.

Loved it! Great food and service. Getting a table is annoying because they are do popular. Great prices for what you get in comparison to equivalent restaurants.

Not worth it. I had very high hopes for this spot, given its pedigree. But I was extremely disappointed. While the service was attentive and the ambiance was ok, the food was very mediocre.

Very impressed! Went with a group of 10 & had a variety of dishes to taste which were all mouth watering! This place is about quality not quantity. Service was outstanding! Will be back for a special occasion

Atmospheric open kitchen Mediterranean. Impressive huge open-plan cellar architecture, fantastic menu and brilliant bustling atmosphere. Waiters were particularly friendly and loved seeing the chefs in action. Visited on a Thursday with a friend and were shown to table straight away. Tasty prosecco, pickles and olives to start, followed by scallops, Jersey milk haloumi, calamari and BBQ carrots. Definitely need to go again with more people so can try the whole menu. The atmosphere, quirky decorative pickle jars and open kitchen make this place fun and unique. Could well become one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney.

Amazing food; every dish was better than the previous one, interesting selection of fusion food and great service ..!! Will definitely go back again !!

Get me out of here!!!. Staff were persistent and obviously commission oriented in selling wine.<br/>I mean Lucy Margaux Monomeith 2013 Pinot Noir at $91.00???. Get real i can get it from 5 ways cellars for $48.00.<br/>Food is overpriced and served in minimal portions.<br/>We all ended up leaving hungry and i ended up eating a double whopper afterwards.

Great food. Great service. Set out quite well. Would certainly return.

Loved it! Amazing service, tasty and interesting food. Got to try many different things the sardines being my favourite by far. A little disappointed with the lobster roll as it had far too much dressing and not enough meat. Other than that thourghly enjoyed this wonderful venue. Thanks Nomad!

After having enjoyed a sponteneous dinner at nomad with my boyfriend I decided to hold my birthday dinner there. I was extremely disappointed to have to call the restaurant and leave two voicemails and email once, per the websites instruction for groups over 8, and receive no response.I've never experienced such poor service before even stepping onto the premises.

Unremarkable. I was excited to try Nomad tonight for a Girls night, I had heard good things about the menu. Unfortunately we were thoroughly disappointed. We opted for the no thought set menu. At $65 per head it was disappointing we feltl like we were at a Coles deli. The salami, mortadella and olives were uninspiring, the $60 bottles of wine were forgettable and the serves were small until we complained (why serve five breadsticks to a table of seven?). The lamb and eggplant dish - the last to arrive was simply spectacular - so much so we insisted the vegetarian eat some of the meat free component - had it not been for that I would have left in disgust. The other dishes - mmmm who knows, very unmemorable. Neither me or my six girlfriends will be back.

The food was amazing and the staff was incredible. They went beyond the call of duty and made me feel like a long lost friend.

Nice dining experience. I really liked Nomad - The venue, the service and the food was all really good. We ordered lots of different things to share and the timing of the food was perfect! It didn't all come out at once, they waited until we had finished each dish. We all went home very satisfied.

Amazing. Best restaurant around, hands down no contest. The only one that comes close is ABC kitchen in NYC. The service ( Eliza and Dan are amazing ) the food, the atmosphere, the cocktails are first class. Don't miss out

Just finished a great dinner on a jam-packed Tuesday night. Our server Mark was very attentive without being intrusive and even gave us a quick walking tour on the way out. Very good food, wine list and service. We'll be back soon.

Amazing food, lacking in ambiance. The food and wine list doesn't disappoint however the restaurant was a little flat and lacking ambiance, especially for a Saturday evening. All in all, a good experience that could've been amazing but was missing that little extra kick.

10 out of 10.. I went with a friend and OMG I had the BEST foie gras I've ever had, just melted in my mouth. Also the wood roasted pork was amazing. Desert we had Daintree Estate chocolate cake and the bunuelos with rosé water and cardamom custard both we moorish. The service was excellent and well informed and attentive enough . I strongly recommend this place to everyone.

It's clear by the infrastructure that Nomad is here for the long haul. A large zone restaurant with varying spaces, visions for an off licence to sell their own produce, a self sufficient delight on the fringe of the city.<br/><br/>Now for the food. Word of mouth had set the bar high and the bar is where we sat, a good view of the kitchen, bar and chief Nathan Sasi hands on with kitchen staff and diners. (It's a rarity to see such a calm kitchen!)<br/><br/>We had the pickles + olives (prepared in house, the BBQ prawns (very, very good - had enormous BBQ flavour but you could still taste the prawns.) the haloumi which was very good and the BBQ chicken. The chicken was the highlight. Exceptionally tasty, (same marinade as the prawns) served with a delicious cauliflower salad. The wine we had was last of the vintage and removed from the menu. Anyone dining there should ask for the Tomfoolery Cabernet Shiraz, it was a great drop. The waiter recommended it to us.<br/><br/>All in all, a very good experience although it did lack the X factor. That said, I think in time this restaurant will come of age and be a mainstay on the Sydney dining scene. It's an ambitious project for a young chief and it will only strengthen in time!

Love it. The Carrots are a stand out dish.<br/>Thumbs up Nomad!

When the hype does down, anything special here?. Came for dinner before 7.30pm so faced the dreaded - get out within 2 hours rule. Bring on no bookings so we don't have to deal with this garbage. Lots of people filing out early to meet this rule and not too many filling their places haha.<br/><br/>Within 2 seconds of entering I saw - 2 Ned Kelly beards and one very well known Australian actor. It's all share plates with no real indication of size. Despite reading reviews, ordered the sourdough bread for $2.5. Too bad they never delivered it so had to get it deleted off the bill. Snacks came out first but then the bigger share plates were all over the place. Having carrots when there's nothing else to eat with it = not great.<br/><br/>Can't judge whether it's across the board but our service was poor eg staff snatching things away from you when you weren't finished. Taking away the other person's plate when you weren't finished etc. (and Asking next door table whether they remembered whether she had given them their bill yet.) Yes we know we're on the 2 hour limit and we're doing our best to eat quickly and give you your money! Towards the end, waitress asked whether we were all finished up and we asked - what about our other main dish??? They then cooked it while we sat there waiting - fantastic. Was thinking about dessert but that sealed it. Lots of young and pretty people here - but can it sustain?<br/><br/>Place is not small so they're going to have to turn over a lot to keep it running. Foster Street isn't exactly passerby central for Surry Hills.

Nomad is here to stay!. We arrived 5.50pm on a tuesday. First in the queue for the 6pm opening. By 6pm there were 12 people at the door.<br/><br/><br/>6.01 and we are in. Big warehouse room, polished concrete with a scandi feel. <br/>Offered a kitchen bar spot and jumped at it. Best seat in the house - food cooked right in front of you. Scan the menu, offered water, tasted a wine and order the bottle (Austrian sav blanc i think - went well with the food)<br/><br/><br/>Five minutes in, and I'm in love with this place. Said to me beautiful DC, "we have to come back to this place". She laughed and said she knew what i was meant and agreed. It just had this intriguing energy -a relaxed, but super professional vibe.<br/><br/><br/>Lots on the menu look intriguing... DC and I always opt to share. So we go with;<br/>- calamari in black squid ink, <br/>- grilled prawns with chemoula (loved this i did a version of this next night on the BBQ at home), <br/>- haloumi, zuchini, mint salad (get this!), <br/>scallops with pork cheek (ive been dreaming about this dish ever since...) <br/>- the lamb main (definitely to share - its mouthwatering but huge). <br/>- We finished with the custard (infused with cardomon and rosewater magic) and light donuts. (get this too)<br/><br/><br/>The style is... I'd describe it as modern western mediteranean (spain morocco...) They have a massive grill "machine" custom built for their kitchen. So lots of clean flavours from charred/bbq meats and fish in spices and herbs.<br/><br/><br/>Charcuterie is big here too with their own dry room on show. I'll try this next time.<br/><br/><br/>Even the kitchen team, working their butts off, had time to briefly chat about the food. One chef quickly flicked us a taster of something he was whipping up and we were curious about. Head chef (Al Yazbek) had a surprisingly chilled style running the team. No screaming or drama (lessons for vue de mond in melb here - another story). Al's chilled style added to the vibe. No bell ringing for wait staff either -just two quick claps and food was sent out.<br/><br/><br/>The entire team has built something amazing here. Well done. I'm back straight after xmas. "Nomad" by name - but this will be a restaurant in Sydney for a very very long time.

Surprising!. Ate here as part of 30 people group, and to be honest was a lot better than I thought it would be! The food was mostly delicious (I didn't like the fish or the pickled platter) but the chicken! Soo good. The salad with pomegranates and goats curd was my favourite, so so yum. The restaurant was really large and open and our waitress was lovely, kept our drinks full and always checked on us. Overall very impressed.

FormerHospitality. The food was lovely, the space was great and the service...well I can't recommend this place. Having worked in hospitality and managing a restaurant for years there are certain ways to do things that will always leave your customers with a smile instead of feeling like cattle being herded. Unfortunately this establishment has a lot to learn. <br/>I love Ms Littlemore & Mr Yazbek concept; the cellar door in the heart of Sydney and I know that there is a great deal of experience behind it.....maybe retraining the wait staff is on the books?<br/>I can be critical having worked in this industry but I pay for a meal and I return for the service.

Taste sensation!. We had a table for 12 for lunch so went with a set menu and it was perfect! The ambiance at Nomad is light and bright and airy and the staff were so attentive and helpful. Really well-thought out small dishes so we could try lots of things - lovely bread, olives, pickled vegetables, chickpea dip, the house-made haloumi, seared gem fish, lamb ribs, fabulously tasty tomato salad and cabbage salad, all followed by lovely light 'doughnuts' with rosewater creme anglaise ..... dee-lightful!<br/>The only downside is that one of our group is gluten intolerant and options were a bit limited. Otherwise this place is fabulous and a taste sensation!

VERY BAD SERVICE. I will not be returning nor recommending anyone to this place!!<br/>My partner and I were seated and had to wait 15 minutes for a waiter to even ask if we wanted water. Very unhelpful with selecting the wine and general lack of enthusiasm in serving us, like it was a problem!! Isn't that your job?! <br/><br/>Salads came out 1 HOUR prior to our main meat dish which were nearly all finished because we were starving. The remainder of the salad that accompanied the lamb was obviously cold by the time we ate! When we asked what was going on and why everyone around us had been given their meals, we were apologized to by the manager in the worst sarcastic manner with the response that "simply the kitchen is so busy, we can't do anything about it"<br/><br/>WORST SERVICE EVER. Don't even bother going. It's like it's a problem to serve their customers. Don't work in hospitality if you can't do your job!

Poor customer service. My phone number was taken and I was told it would be a 40-45 minute wait. Due to max patrons I was told to go to a bar nearby and they'd call when ready. <br/><br/>1 hour later we hadn't heard anything so we went to chase up, only to be told that they couldn't accommodate us after all. Great food everywhere in this area so not a great start for a new restaurant. Set realistic expectations for people.

Go there now before it's inundated. Ticks all the boxes. Winemaker-Dinners are the icing, Rob Geddes MW: the cherry.

Hit the Spot. Excellent food and service at Nomad's for a lazy Thursday lunchtime indulgence. It's a wonderful open space, filled with tantalising aromas from the woodfire oven, which hit you as soon as you walk in the door - a great first impression which Nomad lives up to in spades. Favourite dishes - the bacalao balls and the sublime smoked Wagyu tongue. We ordered too many dishes for 2 people (although strangely, we managed to struggle through them all) - can't wait to return with a gang so we can sample them all! Thanks everyone for a terrific lunch - we shall be back.

Staff here have far too much 'tude for my liking. Probably need to remind themselves they are in the SERVICE industry. Food was ok but they had run out of a few key things on the menu. Great space but myself and my friends would rather spend our money at places that don't treat you like your mere presence is an inconvenience. Will not be back.

Service and energy to return for. Outstanding service truly does call for recognition. Nomad/Surry Hills kills it with personalised, playful service & great food. I Must say the eggplant salad with pomegranates made my salivary glands tremble with excitement. A waiter with passionate wine knowledge, Fabulous modern decor, plenty of space and a variety of seating options. I love that Nomads is hidden away in a Surry Hills back street. Nomads will be seeing me again, probably jowl deep in their lamb ribs.

Simon Food Favourites review. Great space and decor with lofty high warehouse ceiling. Service was switched-on, professional and friendly. Glass of Glaetzer-Dixon Urberblanc [Uberblanc?] 2012 Riesling ($12) was good and went well with my Garagistes Inspired Oysters, Nomad cava vinegar dressing ($4.50 each) which are served slightly warm with nice flavours. Nomad Charcuterie ($26) included amongst other things Wallaby salami, lardo and chorizo all thinly sliced. Very nice cured meats although would have been nice if served with some bread or crackers rather than having to order some as an extra. Woodfired sourdough with black salt butter ($2.50pp) is a large slice with nice flavour although at $2.50 a slice seems pretty pricey, especially when some restaurants provide complimentary bread. <br/><br/>Lobster Roll with harissa and coriander ($18) had nice flavours but I felt needed more lobster meat to balance the bread and the harissa tends to overpower the lobster flavour. Soft shell crab with iceberg tabbouleh, za'atar flatbread ($14) was good with tasty flavours and a decent size to have on your own as a gourmet wrap. Snapper tartare with lemon verbena zhoug, saffron crackers ($22) was tasty with crispy crackers and probably one I'd order again to share. Bill came to $137 for three people which I think is pricey for a light lunch although the food, service and decor was all very good so definitely a restaurant for a special occasion or special night out. Apparently the space used to be a furniture shop which was previously a brothel which was previously an opium den. Happy to be corrected on this.

Nice Space. Loved the fit-out, very industrial but airy as well. Loved the falefel rolls. Good staff.

Run you fools. It would be great if restaurant could stop pretending to be what they are not. If don't care if you're no fancy, just be authentic. Just because you serve mediteranean food doesn't mean you have to behave like the Queen of Spain. The waiters were good but I observed the chief cook during the entire meal and I just can't understand how the employees can actually stand the guy. I won't go back there because that is not how you should run a restaurant.

Just had an amazing experience! This place has it all; beautiful interiors, an interesting and delicious cocktail an food menu which reunites my favorites (charcuterie, elegant cocktails...) and a friendly and competent staff.<br/>This pearl in the middle of trendy Surry Hills will definetly become one of our favorite dining spots!
