Review Mercado - Sydney

Anna Lynn
Excellent food, great atmosphere, exceptional service and super friendly staffs. We ordered quite a few dishes to share and they are all very nice. Although it’s a little bit pricy, but definitely worth a try. They also have very good wine list too. We’ll come back again to try more dishes. Highly recommended.

It was the perfect finale for our trip to Sydney this time. Food was devine, especially lamb was so juicy and tender. Service was firendly but somewhat slow as they paid more attention to the cooperate customers. Lovely ambience.
YU
It's a beautiful restaurant but unfortunately for me, the food is not that pretty, unfortunately the food has a bitter taste in it。 But wine is good anyway.

Having no real plans for dinner, we walked into Mercado and were instantly impressed with the ambiance of the place. We were warmly greeted by front of house and they were able seat us, despite not having a booking and being a busy Saturday evening. The menu was a challenge, as everything looked amazing. The food was exceptional, the concept of small share plates that showcase a chef’s talent was reflected in the pumpkin filled ravioli with shaved fresh truffle. We were made to feel very welcome by the floor staff, especially Charlotte who took the time to explain the menu to us, as well as suggesting a decadent chocolate delight for desert. Highly recommended and thank you for the experience.

Incredible food and service. If I could give this place more stars I would!! Definitely recommend to check it out! The ravioli and the lamb were exceptional! They also have a range of great wines and a couple cocktails as well! Excellent customer service as well! Will definitely come back!

We held a corporate function for 30 people in the dining space under the stairs. The service and the food were absolutely sensational. Lucia was incredible with the service and Emilio prepared the food to perfection. A number of the people commented that it was the "best function they have ever been to". We had a number of speakers and this space was perfect. I cannot thank the team enough for the great work and would highly recommend the restaurant. I will be back!!

In Sydney’s Angel Place you will find many restaurants to take your pick from but a hidden gem in the basement of 350 George Street is Mercado. Mercado is beautifully dim lit, with brass tables and a dark wooden interior. The food at Mercado will be pleasantly familiar to anyone who enjoyed chef Nathan Sasi’s cooking, ex Nomad chef in Surry Hills. The menu is broken into snacks, starters and from the Rotisserie. The share plate style menu gave us the opportunity to try lots of dishes from a really varied and exciting menu. The food was superbly crafted, classic dishes with a Spanish twist. The chickpea dip (homous) was perfectly balanced. I would highly recommend the pumpkin ravioli, it was delicious. The ravioli had a silky texture, light and fragrant, with soft pumpkin inside pasta draped with slightly tangy yoghurt, burnt butter and crisped sage leaves. and was divine in the burnt butter sauce. The Soft shell crab roll is a ‘MUST’. Service was friendly and professional, and the atmosphere was vibrant and chilled! What a fabulous little gem of a restaurant. I wouldn't mind going back to try the other savory dishes as there were several more that were intriguing. The portions were generous and the waitstaff are honest with how much you should order. The food and service was good and it's very good if you want somewhere where you can have a conversation. Good value for money!

Absolutely amazing food, the ravioli was to dieee! Fantastic wait staff and service. There's an awesome vibe in the venue, I absolutely loved it! Would 100% recommend to anyone, and would without a doubt go back

What is there not to love? Old world charm dining room, down to earth yet impeccable service & food to die for. So well balanced, can order so many small plates without feeling full!
Jeremy Fraser
Exceptional absolutely delicious food. Friendly wait staff. We don't eat at fancy restaurants too often and so relied on the waiters recommendations and they were spot on. And even though we went home full, it wasn't a horrible sickly full like other places. I'm not sure if it was to do with the freshness of the ingredients or something. Also tried two of their Spanish beers which were super complex flavoursome beers for beer connoisseur. Could not recommend this restaurant any more highly if you're looking to have your taste buds tantalized!

Amazing food, great atmosphere and service was on point. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this amazing restaurant 🍴

Hands down my favourite restaurant in Sydney. Fantastic menu with great variety, every dish is amazing and the atmosphere is perfect.

As we are always looking for new, exciting and upcoming places, this let us down a fair bit. The food was too pricey for the mediocre food. We tried several dishes to share and it was oily, average and/or a hit and miss. After this we didn't dare try the dessert and left disappointed and overcharged. . The worst was, we booked the place for my birthday and there wasn't a single wish from the staff or anything special. I have been to many restaurants and a mere congratulation or wishes goes a long way. Felt really down on my birthday with not so great memories.
Kevin Crabtree
Fantastic service and brilliant food it was an amazing place for my birthday dinner friends. 5star service and food
Ivanka Zelic Barisic
I have to say the food was good and had a great evening....but I wouldn't recommend the set menu for more than 2 ppl. We had a table of 4, and were served for 2, so a little ripped off.
Gisela Stuckler
Such an awesome restaurant...great food, share style, friendly staff.. place you must visit!
Lisa Thomas
The pumpkin ravioli was amazing! Staff so friendly and the cocktails were great too. Just the right amount of music in the background. Had a great time

Mercado is a great restaurant to celebrate any occasion, with wonderful food and great wine, and very efficient and helpful staff
Jason Perkins
Nice casual venue with a warm feel. No real shortcomings, great share menu where everything was of high quality- highlights were the oysters, short rib, and scallops. Wines by the glass were quite limited (easily remedied by buying bottles !)
Lisa Cavallaro
Really good food! Highly recommended!! The head chef makes beautiful food. It was fast, full of flavour and presented beautifully. The wine recommended was also a winner
Once Upon A Craving
Mercado lived up to the meaning of its name, serving delicious market style tapas and meals to share. We loved everything we ordered, food was full of flavour and flavours balanced to perfection. Highlights were Spanner crab with caviar and Harissa and white bean salsa. I would definitely be back for the food! Unfortunately for this restaurant the service staff was the major downfall, much needed training and table etiquette required.

Great place to eat and experience the Spanish inspired cuisine with some modern twist to it. I like the tapas I had and they were all delicious! Staff was friendly and the service was very good. I highly recommend this place to anyone.<br/>

Good place that serves intetesting variety of food especially if you are a tourist that likes to explore cullinary. Forgot to take photos of the things I ordered but I assure you that most of them are delicious 👍

Friends recommended that we tried Mercado, and we are glad we did.<br/><br/>We took our daughters and started with the duck liver pate, which was as good as anything we had in France. That was followed by Devine Iberico Jamon .<br/><br/>We also had the grilled prawns which were fantastic.<br/><br/>They also had one of my favourite wines 2004 Roda Reserva.<br/><br/>Great service, great location - give it a try.

I've been here twice, tries the $65 and $80 banquet. I recommend getting this if you can't decide(which was our case), they do give you a very nice selection of dishes.<br/><br/>It included hummus and flat bread, cold cuts and olives which were all very nice, especially the hummus! The Turkish ravioli, yoghurt and burnt butter was one of my favourites because I love pasta. The grilled chorizo was also very delicious. We also received a lamb with pumpkin, sunflower, kale and thyme which I also loved. We got a salad but it wasn't memorable.<br/><br/>The $80 banquet is pretty much the same but also includes kingfish, prawns and an extra dessert dish. My only complaint was the salad dressing was too salty and oily for my liking.<br/><br/>The dessert was a dark chocolate semifreddo with pistachio and raspberries which was very tasty with interesting textures and flavours.
EL
This restaurant is so good! Great place to go with a group of people to try different dishes. Everything was delicious particularly the pumpkin ravioli. Highly recommend.

Mercado is situated at the Ivy Precinct and does amazing food with great service. I have enjoyed everything we ordered, including the salad (as a meat lover I’m usually not a fan of salad!)
Anil Thomas
Loved the atmosphere. The selection of small and medium sharing plates was amazing. Some of the best desserts we’ve ever had. All this topped off with attentive service. We sat outdoors which was nice. Service is friendly, attentive and the waitress knew the menu well.
JZ
Excellent service and food. We came as a big group and the restaurant was very understanding of our needs. For example, because some of the attendees were pescatarian, they served us fish instead of the chicken. <br/><br/>We got the fixed menu and honestly everything was good. My favourites were the:<br/>1. Spanish style cod cuts: So refreshing and the perfect mix of healthy and tasty, also the right portion<br/>2. Parmesan grotto with red cabbage: the red cabbage was served as paste and looked like chocolate sauce! Sweet but not excessive <br/>3. Turkish ravioli: pumpkin fillings!! So good <br/><br/>The dessert (chocolate senifreddo) was a little too sweet for my tasting, and also too heavy after such a big meal. I feel like it could have been more balanced with natural fruit flavours to top it off!
Cd
Ordered the below. My top 3 food picks ranked:<br/><br/>Food:<br/>1. Fois Gras parfait<br/>2. Chorizo > the almond puree is a bit bitter but a nice juxtaposition to the chorizo<br/>3. Jamon > the pear was great<br/><br/>4 and below:<br/>- Prawns<br/>- Kingfish<br/>- Octopus<br/>- Chicken<br/>- Beef empanadas with picco de Gallo<br/>- Parmesan polenta with red cabbage sauce<br/>- Roast carrots<br/>- Mashed potato with fried kale<br/><br/>Drinks:<br/>- Manzana Fizz > this was better<br/>- Chamomile Collins<br/><br/>Every dish had excellent plating.

Food: Chose the $80 banquet and I can't say I totally loved it, there was just nothing that stood out in my opinion. Did not like that 6 people had to share 2 desserts.<br/><br/>Service: Friendly, attentive.

Went for dinner recently and really enjoyed it! For dinner, we started with the Iberico Jamon and then had the Wagyu short ribs with a side of the Wagyu fat potatoes. The jamon was lovely and I enjoyed the paring with the figs. I highly recommend the short rib; it is delicious, cooked perfectly and the serving size of 250g is decent. The potatoes were nice; I like the added rosemary, but they are nothing special. For dessert we had a portion of the ’Delice de Bourgone’ Cheese (triple cream cow milk cheese) which was delightful. <br/><br/>To drink we had the 2015 Commando G. ”La Bruja” (a Grenache), which again, I really enjoyed. <br/><br/>The staff were great and the venue has a good atmosphere. <br/>

Very attentive service. Had a lovely dinner there with the family. Food was amazing, we ordered quite a lot for 4 people. Food portion was a little small though.
Lee
Nice, not amazing but nice. Porchetta was good. Haloumi dish and chorizo were a little boring. Dessert was the standout. Service was okay, seating was a little cramped.
Jenny K
Had the pre theatre menu last night before our concert. Everything was delicious and the service was great. The laneway is a good spot for people watching too!
MUHAHAHA
My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate our semi-anniversary:) the wagyu beef is the best savoury that we had - meet was really tender and sauce was just nice. We had the hazelnut mousse as dessert - and it's mind blowing!! The crust at the bottom is amazing, and the source in the centre of the mousse was a bit unexpected, but pretty good.

We wondered around looking for a place we didn't have to wait on and we finally found this place. <br/>Everything's is better than your average restaurant <br/>For example <br/>Chickpea Hummus had fried chickpeas to it,I loved the soft puffy bread that came with it but as usual not enough bread,<br/>The fried cauliflower had pomegranate in it which really enhanced the flavours but there was too much of it <br/>Carrots had dukkah in it which I really enjoyed <br/>Eggplant was nice but didn't do much for me,the missus liked it more <br/>The spitted roast porchetta (pork) had the mojo rojo sauce which was light in taste but it did its job. It was 2 big slices of pork also <br/>Staff were informative and friendly but the wait time for the pork was really, really long. I think our stomachs had caught up with us by then and we were full when the pork came out. I'm glad they gave us a doggy bag <br/>Overalls I enjoyed my experience here <br/>
Katie Dav
really nice 65 dollar pre set menu with a good wine choice. As the restaurant got busier service slowed down with them forgetting our drinks and taking 20 minutes to get the bill despite the fact that we explained we had concert tickets. The pork was fantastic and eggplant starter.

This place was the best dining experience I've had in a while. Haf got there for a team dinner. Constant flow of wine and such great food. Everything that was served was 10/10, from start to finish.

This is one of my favourite restaurant in Sydney and I always recommend my friends to come here and have been here a few times myself. All the cured meats are made in house and are delicious. Everything we had, I would order again. Great presentation and tasting food. Awesome place to visit with a group of friends as most dishes are best shared (and also u can try more things). There's a good list of wines and we ordered a bottle to share. The wagyu rib is amazing and is a must order every time we're here. Remember to leave room for desserts too! Fabulous food and service, I'll definitely be coming back again.

Excellent food, wine and service. We had the $65 set menu with a couple of variations to make it gluten-free. Everything was delicious and we had some leftovers to take home.

Mercado is a beautiful restaurant, conveniently situated close to Wynyard station and City Recital Hall with a brilliant atmosphere. The staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful to us all night. I've been twice now : first by myself before a concert and later with another person for a long evening. When told that I was attending a concert, they were fast and attentive and ensured that I chose dishes that would be possible given the time limit.<br/><br/>There's a great wine and cocktail list, and they have an (appropriately) generous focus on Spanish wines, such as Tempranillos.<br/>The food! Some of the most delicious food that I've had in Sydney. The halloumi is well cooked - warm and soft, not squeaky - and goes perfectly with sweet pear and honey. The Wagyu tongue and cauliflower salad were both extremely enjoyable. The hummus was absolutely delicious and the doughnuts were a perfect way to finish the evening - and were extremely generous with 4 huge doughnuts. <br/><br/>I will be back, and very regularly at this rate.

Buried underground in a heritage-listed building on Angel Place, Mercado is an energetic and exuberant restaurant which offers a charming range of Spanish and Mediterranean influenced dishes. The lively restaurant feature a contemporary marble-lined stairwell, a brightly-lit open kitchen and chic, elegant bars with brassy tables.<br/><br/>My awesome food experience at Mercado began with the soft, velvety foie gras parfait with pickles and toast. The delicious, buttery foie gras parfait was sensational with the correct amount of natural fat and tasted great with the pickles. However, the toast was overdone, dry and bitter. <br/><br/>The spiced eggplants and fried quail were equally tasty too. On the one hand, the wonderfully marinated quail was tender and succulent and probably showed why restaurants should put in more effort to marinate their meats. Unlike the rotisserie chickens or quails at other one-hatted restaurant at Paddington and Stanbuli which were dry, bland and hard, I appreciate how the mixture of spices and flavour enhances the taste of the quail and makes me yearn for more! <br/><br/>Nonetheless, the cocktails are pretty bad. 😏😏

Loved it. Food was great, we shared 4 small plates and then I think 1 main and 2 deserts between 4 ppl. Was a good amount. Porchetta was most memorable. Service is casual and friendly no pretension in this place just a nice setting with great food

Nice-cosy-elegant-friendly staffed place with a warm vibe to it. <br/><br/>Good place to have a yummy Spanish spread and wine. <br/><br/>Food:<br/>1 Pumpkin Raviolli with burnt garlic - the best dish we had during the evening!<br/>2 Zuchinni flowers with goat curd - dish did not stand out in terms of flavours. Was a bit bland.<br/>3 Prawns - decent enough<br/>4 Lamb empanadas - loved it<br/>5 Dessert Hazelnut mousse - very average<br/>6 Red spanish wine <br/><br/>Ambience:<br/>Elegant place, smart casually attired guests surrounded us.<br/><br/>Service:<br/>Amazingly quick and super prompt. Staff was very very friendly!<br/><br/>Value for money:<br/>For the kind of food this place serves it is decently priced, on the higher end though. On average $100 per person.<br/><br/>Will I visit this place again, yes!<br/><br/>

Decent food that tastes good, but is unadventurous. We were expecting more of a wow factor. Decor, atmosphere and music gave a modern chill out vibe.

I had been wanting to dine at Mercado since it opened & a year later finally made it. I had extremely high expectations building up over an entire year. The restaurant has a mysterious mood & lively yet romantic ambience. The staff were all friendly & attentive. After perusing through a delicious sounding menu & interesting wine list, we started with the smoked wagyu tongue. This dish may deter some people with its name but it is absolutely delicious. Rich, thinly slices of wagyu tongue overlapping on the plate topped with a zingy salsa verde & horseradish which really contrasts & brightens up an otherwise rich dish. It was the perfect starter with a glass of smooth, fruity grenache. The burrata with Moroccan eggplant sounded interesting. The eggplant component had bold flavours & spices yet the burrata was creamy & subtle. Both are delicious but for me I felt that the eggplant flavours overpowered the gentle burrata cheese. However the Turkish ravioli was an absolute knockout dish. The pastry chewy yet silky, encasing buttery, sweet, smooth pumpkin filling with a delicious nutty buttery sauce with a hint of citrus drizzled all over. So rich, so addictive, so so good. A must order. From the larger plates, we ordered the wagyu short rib which had a good crust, tender, rich pink meat & delicious salsa made from bone marrow. An extremely rich dish but no less delicious. The broccoli salad with toasted farro was much more the a side in terms of size & taste. It is a lovely dish all on its own. Desserts all sounded amazing & being greedy I ordered 2. The dulce de leche ice cream with butterscotch sauce poured on at the table & cadied bacon. This was so creamy, so rich, so sweet, so amazing. Love the salty contrast provided by the bacon. The donuts on the other hand was not as successful in my opinion. The coffee granita didn't really need to be there. The custard was more an anglaise, quite runny & not sweet enough or had enough vanilla flavour. The donuts had a beautiful crunchy exterior & came warm & fluffy but the inside was a bit more doughy then expected. It was pleasant enough to eat. I had dessert envy looking at the next table as the other 2 desserts not ordered looked better! Overall a really enjoyable dining experience with great & good food, friendly service & good wines.

Really enjoyed the dining experience at Mercado. Service was excellent. We had the set menu. All dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The children ordered a purple dishes to share which they didn't mind which was nice. Very big nice wine selection. Mocktails were delicious also. Desserts were all very special and enjoyable. Would love to go back next time to try other dishes.

From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted right away by friendly staff. After checking our reservation we were seated promptly and given menus. I was really impressed by the great hospitality on first impressions and the vibe of the restaurant. Ordered our drinks and food and in no time our food began to come out, considering I thought we'd be siting a while as the restaurant was busy. the food was amazing, and It helped that my companion had been there before, but I figured whatever we ordered would have been amazing. Could not fault a thing. I would be going back soon

So, we popped into Mercado. It's an impressive venue where you walk downstairs and you can see the hustle and bustle of the street above you out through highlight windows. The main menu certainly looked interesting but we went straight for the dessert one as planned and it had lots of ooh la la combinations.

Ever since Mercado was named one of the best new restaurants of 2016 by the Good Food Guide, it’s been on my wishlist. So it was with great anticipation that I looked forward to dinner. I was not disappointed! No, much more than that, I was surprised and delighted at the generosity of Mercado’s service, approach and prices – something that can be hard to find now in popular, trending restaurants.
Lisa
Had dinner with couple of girl friends here last Friday. I loved their open kitchen and the service was good. They were out of the wine we wanted but the waitress was quick to offer a great alternative. Her food recommendations were good too, though she forgot one of our drinks order we made at the beginning and we had to remind her halfway through the meal. We had couple from entree, small, large plates and dessert, and they were all very good. My personal favorites were foie gras and the rose water dessert.
Jade
I was quite impressed with this place. We had the lunch tasting menu, and everything was cooked well. Every dish came on an individual plate so you have to cut it up and portion it yourself. I felt it was expensive for the portion size but was impressed by the efficiency and service.<br/>The standout was the pumpkin ravioli and dessert - ice cream with butterscotch sauce and candied bacon. The truffle chocolate moose was divine too. Good place for a business lunch or a special occasion.
Picky Piggies
This hidden underground restaurant can be easily missed if you don't pay attention when walking pass Angel Place in the CBD. It's our second time dining at Mercado, we liked the dim lighting and the casual menu and decided to pay this place another visit. Front of the restaurant. Truffle mortadella $14

Review is solely based on the dish I sampled at Taste of Sydney. We couldn't resist the glorious porchetta on offer by Mercado. The simple preparation let the natural sweetness of the pork shine through, and the crackling was wonderfully crispy. I really liked the apple slaw on the side as a refreshing counterbalance to the heaviness of the main event.
Kk007
Serious food safety issue in what they served. Don't risk your health.<br/><br/>The pork belly (Icon Dish: Spit toasted Berkshire porchetta) I had was with hair, undercooked, pink and there was even pink bloody liquid flooding on the plate.<br/><br/>Undercooked pork can cause trichinosis with infection with the larvae of a parasitic worm called Trichinella spiralis.<br/><br/>The skin was chewy not crackling either; more disgustingly, long black hairs on the skin.<br/>The meat itself was tasteless like not seasoned.<br/>The overall experience was bad.<br/><br/>I told the management about this afterwards, unfortunately were all excuses about busy serving time etc., without any solid, constructive remediation plans to prevent it from happening again. <br/>Won't try this restaurant again.

Tucked away in the basement behind George Street in Sydney's CBD is Mercado, a Spanish restaurant showcasing the talents of former Nomad chef, Nathan Sasi. From our table, we could see all the mouthwatering food leaving the open kitchen and I couldn't wait to dig in. . We started with the Ortiz Anchovy Tart with roasted bull horn peppers. The tart is made up of a crispy thin sheet of pastry, and allowed the anchovy and the soft and sweet peppers to shine.  This little morsel definitely left me salivating for more.
Coffeebrunchanddinner
We visited the Mercado stall at this years Taste of Sydney festival and it was top of our list! The starter of foie gras parfait and pickles was generous in serving size and delicious. The icon dish was the rare breed black Berkshire spit roasted porchetta served with apple and herb salad and quince aioli. The crackling was crispy and the pork was extremely juicy and went perfectly with the aioli. These dishes certainly leave us wanting to visit the CBD restaurant!

Really hard to fault Mercado- from the moment we stepped in through the door to the moment we left, a 10/10 experience!<br/>My two friends and I came here for a birthday dinner which they duly noted as soon as we sat down. Staff were attentive but not overbearing, giving us time to catch up and open presents before we finally ordered. We ordered the ocean trout pastrami and chorizo with mojo verde to start, the suckling pig with sides as our main, and the hazelnut mousse cake and meringe as our two desserts. <br/><br/>All items came out in a timely manner, and dishes explained to us. The flavours were simply amazing, and we could taste the freshness with the ocean trout pastrami. The suckling pig exceeded our expectations and we were given a bottle of house made hot sauce which was also amazing.<br/><br/>Dessert came out with a candle and birthday wishes from the restaurant. The desserts blew us out of the water, with the hazelnut mousse cake sadly disappearing quicker than we wanted.<br/><br/>Overall, an amazing experience, 100% recommend, and I really look forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu!

<br/>Came here on a Saturday night for the first time. <br/><br/>The Ambience and the service and excellent. Despite the full house it wasn't too noisy at all. <br/><br/>First time trying Spanish food and the waiter who assisted us with our order was really helpful and everything was amazeballs <br/><br/>

Came here on a Wednesday night at 6pm. We'd made a reservation, and the restaurant wasn't full when we came in. Mercado is beautifully dim lit, with brass tables and a dark wooden interior. Immediately after being seated, I was brought copies of the wine, cocktail and food menu and asked if I'd like a drink while I wait. I said I'd take a few minutes to look over the wine list, and when the host returned, I gave him my narrowed down list and he was happy to make me a recommendation (which was delicious, I might add). <br/>After my friend arrived, we perused the menu and decided on a few things: the sheep's milk labneh balls, pumpkin ravioli, wagyu shortrib, spicy pancetta and truffle mortadella. The cured meats, with a side of sliced sourdough, were served first, and they were a delight to eat- you can't really go wrong with cured meats though. Though delicious, we were not provided with butter for the bread, and upon asking, the waiter said he would see if they had any. He returned saying they didn't (the absurdity!) and asked if we'd like olive oil instead, to which I said yes. The sheep's milk labneh balls came out shortly after, and were served with lightly toasted Lebanese bread. The labneh was creamy and light, with a crisp exterior. We loved devouring these wrapped in the bread. <br/>As good as the starters were, the mains were even better. It's not often that a vegetarian dish will be the highlight of my meal, but the pumpkin ravioli was crazy delicious. The ravioli had a silky texture and was divine in the burnt butter sauce (so this was apparently where all the butter had gone to). We had a funny waiter, who suggested dipping our bread into the sauce- delicious recommendation. <br/>The wagyu shortrib looks like a small piece of meat, but is extremely filing if you are eating the majority of it. If you're sharing it among a larger group, it will probably only amount to a small piece each. The wagyu was a lovely, fatty cut (just the way I like), and pink in the middle. It was served with bone marrow salsa, with something greenish that reminded me of chimichurri. I enjoyed the wagyu, though my friend said it was a bit too salty for her. After our savoury items, we had a brief look over the dessert menu and went with the basque style cheesecake, served with roasted blueberries. The cheesecake was creamy and had a simple, traditional flavour. It had been cooked just the right amount to bring out its flavour, and the roasted blueberries were a nice addition. <br/>Overall, an excellent dining experience- my friend and I were both impressed with the ambience, service and food at Mercado.

In partnership with Sydney Festival 2017 the Fast Festival Feasts program help to bring Sydney the best options at which to dine before or after any performance. Available before 6pm the $55 per person pre-theatre menu includes 3 courses and snacks to start. For starters, Mercado’s take on Fish n chips are potato crisps for dipping into a velvety smooth taramasalata dip.

I always love a restaurant with plenty of sharing dishes made with quality and care 👌🏻<br/><br/>Dishes we loved were the fish and chips, foie gras parfait, zucchini flowers, buffalo milk ricotta honey oregano, ox heart tomato and watermelon salad and the dulce de leche ice cream with candied bacon. All dishes were full of flavour but keep in mind the fish and chips is more of a crisps and dip - it may put you off but once you taste it you'll be in heaven! <br/><br/>I wasn't a huge fan of the cuttlefish and the chorizo was delicious but nothing out of the ordinary. <br/><br/>Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will come back here to try the rotisserie!
Don't Believe The Hype
High Quality produce cooked well. It's relatively expensive but worth the price. <br/>The pumpkin ravioli with burnt butter is amazingly silky, delicate and full of flavour.<br/> Rib-eye was super tender and flavoursome.<br/>Tried many other dishes which were all good. It's the kind of place you should share dishes

I've been here about 6 times since it opened. <br/><br/>Firstly, I love that its conveniently placed in the city and now that they have outdoor seating it makes lunch time bites a treat when I feel like being outdoors but away from the busy city streets given it's in a tucked away laneway. <br/><br/>I love the mooreish cuisine and that's exactly what it is, mooreish. I'm always over ordering. I find it hard to go past my favourites of Pork (the crackling is so good and the meat so juicy), the cuttlefish is a new favourite of mine as is the John Dory and Cauliflower dish - their potatoes are always a must, no matter which way they do them (they frequently change the menu and offering which is great to keep things exciting and fresh).  <br/><br/>Staff are friendly and I like that at times the Executive Chef comes out to give you your dish and explain what it is. It's a nice touch and rare to see in many restaurants. <br/><br/>Desserts are simple but delicious.

Food was nice enough but definitely overpriced. All very rich, so it was great on its own, but didn't compliment each other. <br/><br/>Hostess on Saturday night was rude and racist. She couldn't manage the line of diners coming in. We were waiting in line to be served next, and she addressed the group behind us thinking my friend and I were part of that group of Asians. Before she went to check on their table, I told her that we were not part of that group, and that we were waiting in line first. In a very slow and patronizing way (like I couldn't understand English) she said " and so is everyone else, sweetie". It's your job to be respectful. I don't understand why rude people work in customer service.

This place is undoubtedly a must-try restaurant .. the food certainly won't let you down! I'd even save going here for a special occasion as it's a visit you won't forget. Each tapas dish is tastefully unique and well presented - you won't want it to end! <br/><br/>Also make sure to stay for dessert - their dulce de leche ice cream is an experience you won't want to miss. <br/><br/>Highly recommend going here if you live in Sydney or just visiting!

Went here on friday night, book a table for 6 celebrating friends bday, staff were friendly and helpful, nice venue and great wine list. Started with the wagyu tongue brioche, truffle mortadella 👍🏻, pumpkin ravioli 😍😍, pippies 👍🏻, chorizo 😍, mains are beef with marrowbone jus, roast panchetta, lamb 👍🏻, with side of patatas bravas.. finishing up with bread butter + pedro jimenez sauce 😍..

Exquisite city resto. The menu is broken into snacks, starters and from the Rotisserie. When I read a menu like this and you want plenty of snacks and starters I have to start backwards. Pick some protein from the rotisserie and then decide what works with that. We went with the bread crumbed John Dory, absolutely delicious. It come with a slab of fried bread feather than being crumbed and the complimenting pea, feta and mint salad works perfectly. The nicest fish I've had in a long time. We also had chicken, we were enjoying the fish so much when we finally tasting the chicken it was a revelation. Contender for the best chook in town. This bird came from the fire and remains so moist! Delicious spice rub, I'm dying to go back and have some more. Pumpkin ravioli are excellent. This spot is great

Place is reminscent of a winebar with tapas. Food was good, but fairly small portions for the prices and what it was. Nothing stood out as amazing and dessert selection is limited. Service was good.

I have dinner with my gal friend Jenn. We've been friends for a long time and I can't wait to share a meal with good company at Mercardo. There is discreet signage though Mercardo is just around the corner from Ivy in an alleyway behind george st (near Wynyard Station). We had the whole place to ourselves for a good 5 mins.

Inconspicuously tucked away in the back streets of Ash street, Mercado is one of the hot newcomers on the CBD dining scene this year. I did the degustation menu for a birthday party of 4.<br/><br/>The menu is designed for sharing so we started off with a selection of entrees. Buffalo milk ricotta, truffle honey and oregano was quite splendid with a soft texture and subtle infused flavours, I kept spreading profusely on to my way-too-crunchy bread. Fish and chips were quite an adorable twist as it was potato crisps with a fish based aioli. Chips were thin, crispy and lightly seasoned but I would have liked a much bigger serve. We then had a pumpkin ravioli with yoghurt and burnt butter. It was a very deconstructed ravioli, felt like I was eating giant noodles. Whilst this was a classic flavour combination and well executed, I have had better versions of this ravioli on other occasions. Our favourite was the roasted prawns as it was packed full of flavour but it was a tad overcooked. We had a number of other shared entrees which were good.<br/><br/>For mains, they accommodated our dietary restriction and switched to roast pork for us, which was very much appreciated. However, it was possibly one of the worst roast pork I have had. Skin was so tough and chewy you had to abandon and the meat was not quite tender. Sorely disappointed! It came with a standard plate of greens and also fabulous roasted carrots, almond dukkah, almond cream and tea soaked currants. These were the softest most buttery carrots I had ever had and the almond cream mixed with the currants gave it a sweet yet just zesty flavour.<br/><br/>Finally, dessert was dulce de leche ice cream and bread pudding. I was madly in love with the bread pudding, soaked in Pedro Ximenez (sweet white Spanish wine). The tops of the pudding were still crispy but the bottom had absorbed all the flavour. Ice-cream was smooth and creamy but it was quite normal.<br/><br/>Whilst I had a very pleasurable dinner, I think the flavours are very safe. The repertoire is polished but its still missing a bit of that x factor. Also, worth mentioning to book a table 1 week in advance if you are interested in a Friday/Saturday sitting during rush hour.

Beautiful new restaurant tucked in the laneway of the ivy building, opposite Felix restaurant.<br/>For entree we had deep fried zucchini, which was tasty, but really needed some extra salt, it is better to have this as a side dish to a main. Secondly we had the pumpkin ravioli, and this was the best dish of the night, the ravioli was so fresh and will the pumpkin just gave it a delicate balanced flavour.<br/>For main we had the beef which was really soft and cooked very well, but it does have a bit of fat on it so if you are worried go for the lamb or chicken.<br/>The dishes here are very similar to that of chiswick restaurant, very hearty traditional meals. <br/>Will definitely come back!
Small And Tall Eats
Came to this lovely restaurant after it was highly recommended to me by multiple friends. We came on a Saturday evening at 5:45pm for a pre-theatre dinner before heading to the Capitol theatre to see Aladdin the musical. The restaurant was ambient and empty when we arrived, which was to be expected considering our early dinner reservation. It however, quickly filled up, during our dinner not leaving a spare table in sight. <br/> We opted for the pre-theatre dinner set menu which consisted of 5 courses (including dessert). It consisted of<br/>1. Mercado's take on Fish and chips with taramasalata and marinated spanish olives <br/>2. Turkish ravioli of pumpkin, yoghurt and burnt butter <br/>3. Roasted prawns, shellfish oil. bottarga <br/>4. Spit roasted whole cooked lambs, with woodfired carrots, almond dukkah, tea soaked currants  <br/>5. Dulce de leche ice cream, butterscotch and candied bacon<br/><br/>A great restaurant with attentive staff and a delectable menu. Will definitely be back to try the other delicious menu items that weren't included in the set menu. Would definitely recommend coming in and eating at this lovely restaurant

It’s hard to keep up with all the new restaurants in Sydney, so when we couldn’t get into Hubert (not even close, apparently you have to be super early or late with their no reservations policy), my pal R said there’s another restaurant he’s wanted to try. I made an online reservation instantaneously. We walked over, with time for a beer at Frankie’s Pizza along the way.

Stunning unsung hero to upset sydney food. Reasonably priced and dined next to A few sporting stars! Ribs prawns patte necessary! The Spanish wines need a little work but watch this place Sydney!

I for one get pretty excited about the smoked wagyu tongue in brioche with pickled green tomato. It’s like a warm, lingering, slightly sexual hug. Another standout dish for me is the foie gras parfait with cornichons and toast. Utterly indulgent and smooth as hell.<br/> But it’s the Turkish ravioli of pumpkin, yogurt & burnt butter that’s my eureka moment. It’s fantastically buttery, matched with slippery pasta that reminds me of wonton skins.

With ex-Nomad chef Nathan Sasi is the chef behind Sydney CBD newcomer, Mercado, you know it's bound to be great. It's the ideal location for a foodie birthday celebration catch up. Housed in a grand heritage building. Upon arrive, the restaurant is fairly busy. As we have the early time-slot (6pm), we have a strict time limit and this is felt by the rush we felt from staff to place our order quickly. Granted, we were initially busy having a good old chat, so the push to order was probably justified so we would be able to finish the meal on time.

My friend and I really enjoyed our catch up and lunch at Mercado. Staff were wonderful and we enjoyed everything we ordered. We shared their foie gras parfait, bbq chorizo which had a good spice kick and the beef spare ribs was very tender and rich. We also ordered the truffle mash and carrots as our sides. Food is definitely on the heavier end and rich but very tasty and perfect for the cool winter weather we are having.<br/><br/>We were too full to have dessert but we both agreed that we will be back!

What a wonderful place. Located on Ash Street and near the Ivy, it is a hidden gem which is well worth seeking out. Stepping down in the restaurant, the interior is very inviting with warm woods, a lovely bar area where you can dine, and an open kitchen. First impressions were very positive. <br/><br/>Service is top notch here. Very friendly staff where nothing is too much hassle, they are attentive but not fawning. When we wanted the sourdough, the waitress serving us suggested we didn't need it as other dishes had bread accompaniment which is always nice rather finding out later that we have too much bread.<br/><br/>With great company, all I needed was great food and that is what we received. To start we had Buffalo Milk Ricotta, Truffle Honey & Oregano, Foie Gras Parfait, Cornichons, Toast, and BBQ Chorizo, Salsa Mojo Verde. After reading that they cure their own meats and make their own cheese in the basement we definitely had to try some of these. The ricotta was smooth and creamy and went well with the bread. Foie gras was so smooth and went down a treat. Chorizo had a little spicy kick but the salsa verde tempered some of the heat.<br/><br/>We continued on with Spit Roasted Whole Cooked Pork & Salsa Romesco. We could see all the meats coming out of ovens and all looked and smelt great so could not wait to try it for ourselves. The pork was cooked well and cracking was delicious. The salsa had a great taste to it. We had Green Leaves, House Made 'Everything' Vinegar, Potato & Truffle Mas With Chicken & Truffle Gravy, and Roasted Carrots, Almond Dukkah, Tea Soaked Currants. The salad was lovely and fresh and the dressing was nice and light and didn't overwhelm the salad. The mash was awesome with great truffle flavour and the chicken gravy added a heartiness to it. Carrots were amazing and a definite must try. The dukkah worked so well and they were cooked really nicely. <br/><br/>After eating all this you would think we were full but since we didn't want to skimp on the highlight of the meal, we had to try their cheeses.<br/><br/>To conclude our meal we had Holy Goat 'La Luna' and Delice De Bourgone. Both had a delicious taste to it and went well with the bread and crackers. We also wanted to try a couple of their desserts so went with Pedro Ximenez Bread Pudding, Vanilla Sauce, and Dulce De Leche Ice Cream, Butterscotch & Candied Bacon. The bread pudding was more brioche style bread so heavier than usual but the delicious sauce made it nice and moist. The ice cream was so creamy and wasn't overly sweet which was lovely. The sauce was nice and bacon was a nice touch.<br/><br/>Overall left a very happy diner!<br/><br/><br/><br/>

How do you make roast potatoes even better? Cook them in dripping. And then serve with roasted garlic creme fraiche on the side. I don't know if Mercado has a defibrillator on site but they should invest in one. We demolish these nuggets of crunch with voracity.
I'm Still Hungry
Mercado is definitely the coolest new kid on the Martin Place block. You’d better book an extra long “lunch meeting”, as you’re not going to be able to get in and out within the hour. But then, with an experience this nice, would you want to?

Came here solely for the foie gras parfait which was cruelly (no pun intended) taken from the menu at Nomad when Nathan Sasi left, and I was not disappointed. The parfait was a highlight among a menu that was sensational. We sampled the salt cod croquettes, chorizo, buffalo milk ricotta with truffled honey and pecorino, wood fired prawns and ravioli, along with some beautiful desserts and cocktails. Will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu (and some more parfait). Now if only Nathan could also reprise the goats cheese churros my life would be complete.

Absolutely sensational!!! Try a selection to share for entrees- the kingfish "Jamon" is fantastic, and a must try, and we loved the scallops. For mains the 6 hour charcoal spit roast lamb was amazing. The desserts were divine... I was blown away by the house made ash rolled goat served with house baked raisin bread! Delicious!<br/>All in all an excellent experience, and the staff were wonderful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The experience was fantastic and we will be back!!!

You know when you see something on Instagram and you just immediately know that you need it in your life? That’s totally how I felt when I saw all the pics of Nathan Sasi’s newly opened Mercado, located on Ash St just around the corner from Ash St Cellar and Felix. The Smoked Wagyu tongue in brioche ($14) is a must order. I normally have issues with tongue (especially when it’s sliced lengthways and still looks like a tongue…) but this gourmet toastie is next level. The entire surface area of the pork fat brioche has been perfectly toasted to ensure max tastiness and the gruyere cheese is at the optimal melty stage, melding with the slices of smokey tongue and pickled green tomato.

Beautiful room and very nice service.  But overall the food left me a little disappointed.  It is all quite heavy and rich, there needs to be some freshness and lightness somewhere. Most dishes came with a rich/thick mayo or cream. Even the fish (snapper), which was sensationally cooked, was on top of a heavy mix.  Did love the carrots though.  Wouldn't be in a hurry to go back.

Been here twice now and we have booked for a third time for Mother's Day. The food is that good! The chorizo is a favourite. The pork skewers are amazing. Probably the most tender pork I have ever had that isn't pork belly. The prawns were also great. The smoked wagyu tongue brioche toastie was quite rich for our liking. We also had the cured goose which did not amaze us but maybe we just don't know how to appreciate cured meats. For mains, we tried the lamb and the wagyu steak. Both were great. The housemade hot sauce and preserved lemon oil are the best! We were not amazed by the sides though. The potatoes were not as crispy as we hoped and the broccolini was ordinary. For dessert, we had the magdalenas. It was warm and soft as expected. The curd was a bit sweet though. Portion size was a bit on the small side given the price. Service was hit and miss but I guess its just been a couple of weeks.

Mercado (spanish for Market) is the latest tasty addition to the Ash St/Martin Place dining scene. It's a bar and restaurant located on a sub lane/street level is a restaurant with chic interior and elegant mood lighting. Nathan Sasi (ex-Nomad and ex-Rockpool), the dude behind those amazing goats cheese churros and other dishes when Nomad first opened is the owner and head chef of Mercado. Expect exceptional Mediterranean flavours with mostly Spanish and Moorish influenced dishes.

Loved this new addition to the Sydney dining scene. Delicious flavour combinations and unique menu items. Some portion sizes were small and quite expensive, especially the snapper but in general it is a great menu. We were disappointed that the cheese trolley wasn't an actual trolley, but apart from those two minor elements we loved our experience. Amazing wine list and a very helpful sommelier. Staff were friendly and professional, especially Andy. Look forward to dining here again in the near future!
