I can't rate this restaurant highly enough! We booked under "First Table" which meant we received 50% off the food bill but we were treated exactly the same as if we were paying full price. From the minute we arrived, we instantly were made to feel welcome and special. We had beautiful scallops , Chicken Liver Parfait and Onion Soufflé .All fantastic especially their signature soufflé! The staff super friendly providing excellent service. If you are in the area looking for a place to eat, this is a restaurant!

Located at the 'Paris End' of Potts Point, Macleay St Bistro is an intimate and charming little bistro that takes me back to the simple pleasures of European holidays: sipping champagne, eating beautiful food and of course, being fabulous! The service is charming and knowledgeable and the food everything you think of as being quintessentially French. I'm talking rich sauces, the best quality meats and seafood, refined techniques and a whole lot of cream and butter! We feasted on starters of Merimbula Oysters, Escargots with a Garlic and Parsley Butter, French Onion Cheese Souffle, Garlic Prawns, Steak Tartare and a Chicken Liver Parfait to die for! (But seriously, I would die for this parfait...). Mains of Chateaubriand (Eye Fillet Steak) for two, Pork Cutlet and Steak Frites kept up the momentum of great dishes with my fave actually being the Steak Frites. I love the smokey aroma that comes from cooking on the grill and with top notch piece of meat, it's hard to say no to second and third helpings. Desserts were pretty spectacular with the highlight for me the Chocolate Fondant. I could taste in the deep, almost bitter aroma of the pudding that a very high quality chocolate was used. The fresh fruits and luxurious vanilla bean ice cream just topped it off, filling this belly to the absolute brim! A first class experience all the way!

MACLEAY ST. BISTRO02 9358 489173A Macleay St, Potts Point NSWIf there was a song about this dining experience, it would have to be the 1972 all-time soul classic by Bill Withers called “Use Me”. Some context - the song is about a guy whose girlfriend walks all over him. His friends try to convince him to break up with her, but he loves it and won't ever leave. Plus, the song has an uber-cool classic and sexy vibe, just like MacLeay Street Bistrot. Here, before you today, I’m openly admitting that I’m obsessed with this place. MSB has been serving loyalists for over 30 years.I noticed most of the patrons were all on a first-name basis with the staff, it really feels like one big family there. They are creating and serving some of the most classic, decadent and delicious french cuisine I have ever had. I want to thank the fantastic Lizzie for making us feel so looked after and walking us through the extensive wine list and dishes. Recently dined here for our anniversary and the staff were very attentive. We were greeted with flowers on our table and two glasses of champagne which was a beautiful way to start our dinner. Each course was fantastic and portions were generous. Would love to return.

Macleay St Bistro is in it's 37th year of operations and has long term standing customers. I have been to Macleay St Bistro twice last year and I am eager to return again for another delicious meal. Macleay St Bistro is perfection and is firmly locked in my food memory bank. So I have high expectations as it's my third visit.

If memory serves me correctly, nostalgia never tasted quite as good as chef Damien Wright’s Sunday Roast for Two ($76) at Macleay Street Bistro. With glistening golden skin, and dense, juicy breast meat, Wright’s poulet rôti et legumes pour deux (roast chook and vegetables for two) is outstanding, and unbeatable at the price point. The bird is served on a simple array of vegetables - onions, carrots, pumpkin and potatoes - each element handled with technical precision that belies the rustic, Sunday lunch presentation. With the accompanying savoury jus gras (fatty juice) is brimming with roast poultry intensity, the beautifully reduced pot of Eschallot, Mushroom and Thyme-Infused Cream ($4) is simply good to pass over. With the 2017 Picardy Pinot Noir ($89/bottle) from Pemberton as...

wonderful french food, with what can only be described as exemplary service. when restaurant staff are professionals in the truest sense of the word; polished and knowledgeable and yet still approachable, the whole experience is changed for the better. Clive and the team do this, if only to be looked after in this manner, please go here.
brilliantly executed french food, some modern, some tipping a hat to the past. only one thing to say, portions could have been a bit smaller... in order to fit more in!

Celebrating 35 years since opening, this restaurant does superb french food! ⭐

The snails with butter is absolutely devine. 🤤Ended up mopping up all that sauce with the bread. The grass fed eye fillet was pink on the inside (just the way I like it)! Preferred the thin cut french fries over the thick cut. Beans were cooked just right. Not over cooked and still had a crunch. Went for the creme brelee and passionfruit soufflé which were also top notch👌 Great way to end the meal. I'm not going to rave about any particular dish as everything we had was superb. If you're looking to dine at a french restaurant, I'd definitely hit this one up ❤

They offer a classic menu and a modern menu. We also had the scallops and chicken liver which we enjoyed. Very well rounded menu. There's something for everyone.

Thanks Paudi and Macleay St Bistro. Our lunch was amazing! 👏

We Sydney-siders are a lucky bunch, living amongst a cornucopia of culinary delights that will take your tastebuds on a journey around the world. When you consider the competition for our appetites and dining dollar, it’s no mean feat for a restaurant to stay in business. So it’s all the more remarkable that iconic Sydney dining institution Macleay St Bistro is celebrating 35 years.

I can fully appreciate why after recently re-discovering this Sydney gem.

There are insufficient superlatives to describe our dining experience; Service is genuine, gracious and gregarious, and the food is exceptional, showcasing quality produce, and all beautifully cooked and presented.

There is an extensive menu that can make deciding what to order difficult; the easy option would be to choose the 35 year celebratory degustation and enjoy a wonderfully curated 6 course menu featuring refined classics such as steak tartare, twice baked French onion soufflé, and creme brûlée. The “Classics menu” is juxtaposed against a seasonal specials menu offering big, hearty French fare like Boeuf Bourguignon and steamed black mussels with white wine.

Otherwise, ask for your waiter’s recommendation; Páidí skilfully guided us through the menu and we arrived at:
* French Sonoma baguette with Pepe Saya butter
* Pan seared scallops with cauliflower purée & roasted hazelnuts
* Twice baked French onion soufflé with truffle butter & sourdough roll
* Cootamundra grass fed lamb loin with heirloom carrots, pomme mousseline & pea purée
* Pan rendered fillet of duck breast with preserved peaches, eschallots & Armagnac jus
* Boeuf Bourguignon avec Purée de Pomme de Terre - Classic Beef Burgundy With Pomme Purée
* Sides of buttered green beans, french fries and pomme purée
* Crepes Suzette Flambee With Grand Marnier
* Passionfruit Soufflé With Coconut Sorbet
* Classic Macleay St. Bistro Creme Brûlée
* House Made Chocolate Truffles

It’s hard to pick highlights from a stellar meal where every mouthful is sublime; highly memorable dishes were the rich and decadent twice baked french onion soufflé. It combines the classic soufflé with the taste of a french onion soup which had a richness of flavour from something made with love. The scallops were plump and juicy and served with a creamy purée and crunchy hazelnuts. The beef burgundy was tres magnifique! It was comfort food presented beautifully and had the familiar flavours you would associate with this dish but even better. With a thyme infused red wine sauce, it was the perfect winter meal.

Dining at Macleay St Bistro was like being reacquainted with an old friend; you know, that person you don’t ever see enough of but always have a great time with.

Sincere thanks go to Paídí, Gaetan and Chef Fernando for a glorious evening of food, wine and joie de vivre.

Located along Macleay Street, Potts Point, Macleay Street Bistro is a venue that gives you wonderful memories after you visit them. And that’s not because their name is easy to remember: Macleay Street Bistro at Macleay Street 🙂. It’s definitely beyond that. Upon opening the door to the venue, we were already impressed. Not because of the size, but of the elegance and stylish decor that gives you the ‘Oh là là’ feeling.

This is a small cosy establishment. I think it might be too small for its popularity. But it might what lent to its warmth and cosiness. Nothing remarkable about its cocktails. The chicken liver parfait is one of the best in Sydney I've ever tasted. The texture was very smooth and it was full-flavoured. The serving was generous and we had to ask for another serving of accompanying bread. The fresh bread itself warrants its own review: it came very soft, fresh and buttered. Their famous Chateaubriand steak did not fail to impress. It was very tender, juicy and well-flavoured. The accompanying green beans and potatoes were equally well cooked and tasted good on their own. The profiteroles did not keep up with our entree and main, but it was still pretty good. I liked that it was not too sweet - just right.🙂 Service was good, too - attentive, friendly, prompt and accurate.

Intimate dining experience. The food is good with all the favourites on the menu, at times like this I wish I had a dining partner to share. I settle for steak frites. It’s a delicious meal, with crispy fries and delicate salad. Definitely will be back

This venue has been on my list ever since I saw their French Onion soup on my feed. I had never tried it before and I wanted this place to be the one to change that. When I want to order almost everything off a menu, I try and go with as many people as I can to make that happen. I think we had enough people for this dinner and for me to try the dishes I had been eyeing out! The 'Salmon Tartare' had to be one of my favourite dishes of the night. The tiny bits of Granny Smith Apple surprised me and gave it a little more texture and this beautiful flavour to the dish. We also ordered the 'Macleay Street Bistro Organic Grass Fed Eye Fillet Steak Tartare' because it's me and if a venue has steak tartare, I'll order it. It was beautiful but I preferred the salmon this time! A couple of appetisers and snacks included a dozen of the 'Sydney Rock Oysters' and these gorgeous 'Garlic Prawns' that were served with baguette bread. I am telling you, we had enough baguettes to run a bakery and I loved that! Anything we could pair with the bread, we did and that chilli bisque with the prawns was perfect to dip the bread into. It also went with with the beautiful ‘Chicken Liver Parfait’. This seriously looked like a scoop of ice cream but it was far from it! Match made in heaven with the red onion confit served along side it. So yes, I finally got to try my first ever 'French Onion Soup' and this was served with Comté cheese. It was absolutely beautiful and I am so glad this was the venue I tried it in. It would be perfect on a cold winter's day and even though I didn't have the entire thing to myself, this would be a solid meal as it's so rich, hearty and very filling. One onion dish wasn't enough, so we ordered the 'Twice Baked French Onion Soufflé with Truffle Butter' and of course, it was served with a petit baguette! Soufflé's can be very rich for me so I am glad we shared this one but my god, it was delicious. It was like a big, warm hug from a French man. For the main, we ordered the 'Steak Frites' which came with a baby rocket & green pear salad and some French fries. At a first glance, I thought the steak would have been overcooked but when we cut into it, it was perfect. The fries.. we demolished those in about 30 seconds. We also ordered dessert. This was the 'Crepes Suzettes' flambéd with Grand Marnier. A couple of us wanted the staff to redo the flambé, so that meant twice the booze! Unfortunately, I could not eat it as it was too strong for me but I would go back and try it without the liqueur. Shoutout to our waiter Patty for being amazing!

Absolutely delicious! Came here the other night with my partner without a booking and they were more than accommodating. Had steak tartare & parfait to start and chateaubriand for a main (included sides) and a couple desserts to finish! Cannot recommend them enough. Will definitely be back :)

You know that feeling you have when you know you walk into a place and the food will be amazing? This is it! While visiting from Melbourne, as soon as I walked into this place (recommended by my great friend Rachel) I felt special. The staff was brilliant and Stefano was fabulous going above and beyond to not only accommodate us, but to also anticipate our needs… and we had a lot (lol). The eye fillet was cooked to perfection, the soufflé was the best I’ve ever had, and their selection of wine is second to none. Stefano recommended an amazing Pino Noir and the night couldn’t have gone any better. He made me, my husband and friends laugh and took care of us like VIPs. The place is classy, cozy and elegant. Fine dining at its best. It was great to see the place so busy (appropriately so) and the staff working as a team to please us. I now will ALWAYS come back to Macleay St Bistro whenever I’m in Sydney and will obviously highly recommend it to all my family and friends. The service and food was so SUPERB that it made me come here to write and share my experience. Can’t wait to be back. Regards. - Marie L
