Review The Apollo - Sydney

Sour HU
Pita bread was excellent! Melt cheese was amazing. Lamb was reasonably good. Tried auzo for the first time, very exotic. Dessert was good. The price is very reasonable. I’ll go again to try the seafood! 😍

Had a lovely dinner last night celebrating two birthdays. It was the perfect venue for it! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive and the drinks were amazing as well. Everyone must try the pork and lamb dishes since it was just mine blowing! The venue itself had a great ambience, so lively despite the covid situation and awful weather. It was just so lovely to see people having a good time and enjoy themselves. The experience almost made us feel that covid never existed! We would love to come back soon and definitely will be recommending it to our friends and family! You guys did an amazing job last night and thank you much for looking after us!

Delicious food & wine. What a wonderful way to spend a rainy Saturday. The Apollo was packed, it had a wonderful ambiance, the staff were run off their feet but the service was amazing!

Enjoyed a Tues night dinner here last week. Ambience, music, lighting and vibe is great at this restaurant. It was full with a variety of different people. A little on the loud side for convos but not too bad. Food was a little disappointing, and nothing out of the ordinary. Pita bread and dips were good but the meat and pots were a tad overdone for my liking. Service was great. Overall good experience and the price not too bad for the whole package.

Greek food in a modern restaurant. Tasty and good service. Only tried vegetarian food as my friend did not want meat. Even as a meat lover, I had a good experience. The spinach and chees pie was really nice.
Kabir Arora
Worth it. Great vibe. Good staff / service. Decent wine list & good flavours. Not much a Greek lover - but their flavours did seem to work 🤙🏻

Great food and lovely ambience. We opted for the “Full Greek” which was a great way to try a bit of everything. The lamb shoulder was delicious.
Troy Litzow
Attentive fabulous cheeky staff. Food tasted great. Intense flavors and were intense. The saganaki was so good ! The green peas were also to die for. I would go back again everyday ! This place is amazing ! The spritz cocktail will be replicated many times at my house.

We dined at Apollo for my husbands' birthday. The matre d was very personable, shifting around bookings to seat us at the best table in the house. Our sommelier had carefully curated an appealing wine list which included a Greek wine that had just won a Decanter award. It was crisp, flavoursome and complemented our dinner perfectly. We ordered the sardines which were coated in generous portions of parsley and lemon (lip smacking my delicious) and the lamb shoulder which fell off the bone and melted in our mouths. The comforting Greek country pallate, inviting ambience of the venue and individual attention provided by the staff made our experience very special. We will certainly return.

Was so looking forward to this for the Greek Easter Lunch. Ruined by poor waiter service, terribly noisy and awful selections of food. The waitress was asked for selections for 8 diners but only small portions arrived and were no where near enough for 8 people. Several times we asked for extra portions for our family of 8 but still got just enough for 2 each time. It was a real shame as we had really looked forward to this only to be bitterly disappointed. Very poor indeed would not recommend this to anyone. The only good thing was Nick organised some red eggs for us.

Delicious, innovative food in a chic environment. Top quality produce with professional friendly staff. You feel that you've had a very indulgent luxurious treat and know that it will be worth it even if the bill is large. The bill arrives and you are so pleasantly surprised - so reasonable for such all round quality. The ambience is wonderfully elegant but the real star here is the food - it's sublime! A must when in Sydney.
Eleni Elefterias
The food was quite nice. Service vet good. Food came out quickly. Enjoyed the Greek wild weed and cheese pie. Tonight the lamb had a beautiful consistency and taste but needed another 30 minutes in the oven. The vegetables and cheese saganaki were nice. Nothing stood out to me as extraordinary. The setting is nice but as in most establishments the music very loud and with do many people talking around us it was very noisy. They do not know how to cook Loukoumades though. Because in the past they were raw inside we asked for "overcooked". They came overcooked on the outside but raw on the inside which was a pity. Obviously two problems here 1. Oil too hot. 2. They have never tasted them. Many chefs just follow a recipe but they need to be tested and tasted on a regular basis. Having said that it is one of the better Greek restaurants we have tried.

Atmosphere is chic, friendly and relaxed. The food is packed with flavour and delicious from beginning to end, I am a vegetarian and from a predominantly meat based menu I am still heartily satisfied with the options available. The staff are helpful and knowledgable about the dishes and are always on hand if you have a question or need service. I have been to this restaurant many times, for birthdays and small dinners and never had a bad experience.
James Pipal
We were there for a Friday long lunch with friends. We found the food to be excellent, good service and great ambience. I would definitely recommend.
Lia Zalums
fab food, atmosphere and service - and great value for all we had to eat! The geranium dessert is to die for! and the taramasalata comes in a jar with an air tight lid and warm pita bread - just superb - will be back again with more
Gary Boyd
Ive never had a bad experience here . Last night it was especially good ! The saganaki cheese, the weed and cheese pie, the roast potatos and oven baked lamb. All amazing. The great thing was that the waiter advised us to drop a few dishes because he felt we were over ordering !
Sharon Kumar
The food is glorious but it's always totally packed and food service is super slow. Knockout sardines and dessert and the Saganaki is to die for!
Matthew May
Top spot! Affable (and gorgeous) wait-staff, fabulous food and pitch-perfect cocktails. Don't miss the Wild Weed Pie, exceptional taromasolata, superb eggplant with pomegranate seeds, delightful cauliflower in fillo pastry and saganyaki cheese with honey. Start with a Pearsephone cocktail - and wrap up with the doughnuts. You can't go wrong!
Bec Nicol
We had lunch here today and it was my first experience with proper Greek Cuisine, the service was awesome, the food was delicious and for the price you pay it honestly is so worth it. (we had the set menu the lamb was delicious)
Vicki Parkinson
Dinner Monday- excellent staff - amazing food we arrived early 6.30ish seated immediately - ( 3 of. Us) very busy we asked for a break between courses - nothing too much trouble - think we were there just over 3 hours - were never rushed in anyway Terriffic night!
Greg Barrow
You will get to experience evocative Greek deliciousness in flavours and tastes that will defy your expectations...first class all round... its a high 5 from me. xxxxx

Staff were strangely aggressive and impolite, food was ok but portion size did not match price and it took a long time to reach the table. Mains did not come out together and I did not appreciate being confronted by a staff member when I asked to leave as the final main was taking too long. Cannot believe the service, absolutely appalling.
Sally O'neil
I celebrated my birthday yesterday with a party of 15. The food was excellent as was the wine and the service outstanding. Thank you for making my day one to remember.
Daisy Werac
Food was amazing - entree of saganaki with pita bread - best we've had anywhere. Lamb rack so tender, full of flavour - perfectly cooked. Pork cutlet just as good and eggplant, almond salad excellent. Dessert superb - poached rhubarb, white chocolate and honeycomb. Service spot on - we will definitely be returning when we next return to Sydney - really could not fault this venue. Did get there close to 6 to endure we got table :)
Michelle
Dined here today and while it was uneventful and we enjoyed most of our food, the older female staff member seemed unfriendly and short with us the entire time despite us not causing any trouble and interacting with her and other staff in a polite and friendly manner.

She had a sour look on her face after we ordered and all interactions after. I don’t know if we did something to offend her and to her credit, she did refill our water a few times but there was a strange vibe that made us feel uncomfortable. A male staff who kindly introduced our dish to us when he served it saved this review from being a 3 star, his service was impeccable.

The honey saganaki cheese was delicious, we also had the lamb shoulder which was quite tender but lacked flavour and was very dry on the edges. The loukoumades were also delicious.

Overall we did enjoy our time here even though it was dampened by the inconsistent service. The food is nice but overpriced for the portions served and while I understand that it’s a slightly more upper scale area, the service needs to match the price for us to justify coming back. Zomato doesn’t allow 3.5 stars but this feels like a 3.5 star more than a 4.
Nicole Chretien
Perfect for a large group, lots of small tapas style dishes. More of a sharing type of menu. Very delicious food! Only thing to be aware of is that you cannot make a reservation, so you have to turn up and hope to not be waiting for a long time. Does get very busy though, nice buzzing atmosphere!
Silk Road
We had great things about this restaurant. I couldn't fault the service and there was no rush to get you out even though they had people waiting. Cocktails were great but wine was on the very expensive side. The Saganaki Cheese honey and oregano was delicious. We then followed it by the octopus which some of it was soft and some was dry and hard. The baked lamb while being tender lacked flavour and the pomegranate salad was drowned in yogurt so much that is all you could taste.Quite disappointing.
Lily
We took the banquet option for a large group of us. The pita bread and dip were very satisfying. We also really enjoyed the Saganaki cheese and king prawns. I feel both the chicken and lamb were slightly dry but still flavourful. Both the rhubarb desserts and filo pastry were a delight to finish with!
James Catley
I don’t usually leave reviews but feel compelled to here. Extremely overpriced for what you get in terms of quality and quantity. Par for course in Potts Point though. Pretentious and lacking substance.

Long tables with amazing Greek food. Sharing plates galore, everyone will walk out full full full. Service is great, this would be perfect for anyone that is super super hungry. And in need of good Greek food. Or people that like coriander in your cocktails ha!. What to eat here: the lamb, the pita and the potatoes!
Cameron
Food is good but I absolutely loathe walk-in restaurants that won’t take bookings for less than six people. When you are going out to dinner to celebrate a special occasion the last thing you want to do is turn up at a restaurant and HOPE they can seat you....or wait around HOPING to get a table. I’m boycotting venues like this now...even when there’s a large group.
TrufflePig
It sits humbly on the corner of Crick Avenue, a stone's throw from it's latest neighbours Paper Bird and Lot One. Open now for more than five years, seeing a jam-packed restaurant nearly ever single night of the week shows evidence that the quality and skills from the team at the Apollo is truly prized by locals.
Dominic Taylor
Had the banquet set menu. Definitely a place you go with a group, it has that communal dining vibe. Highly recommend the taromasalata with extra pita bread, because you're gonna want sardines as well, and there is so much moppable sauce on the plate that would go to waste normally. The lamb was very well cooked and tasty. A bit underseasoned but that doesn't really matter and is probably much less risky.

Was not a big fan of the dessert but then I'm not really a dessert eater.
Ms Picky On Coffee
Quick and sincere serving, such a nice bunch of team/staff! All service team is polite and attentive! Food is generally delicious, but some menu items can be hot and miss! I like their meat generally, but some seafood plates can be bland in taste. Most of the time, they are consistent though! Happy to go over and eat there again and again.
Katie Dav
Visited on a very busy Sunday afternoon for the banquet dinner. The cocktails are different and there is a huge variety.

The banquet dinner is a great way to try out a lot of the menu. The cheese course was amazing and the lamb course second to none.

Only down side was the cockroach on the ceiling above us and the blunt it's an old building excuse given as the waitress ran off. Put a negative spin on the meal.

Mtpatel11
We had a large group. Put in a dark store room out the back. Serving sizes are small and only suited to couples. Small snack plates were the best.
Sydney
The taste is spot on!! BUT all the fish are really really salty. Even salad is very salty. We also order the aged pork. It is served medium rare and looked very pink. To my knowledge white protein like chicken and pork have to be fully well cooked. Tell me if I am wrong. The rose desert is the BEST! Very light and well balance. Height light of the night

Enjoy this short haul flight to Greece! The Apollo has a loyal following, and you only have to spend dinnertime here once to understand why. Inside the space is industrial chic with exposed concrete and granite, while the atmosphere buzzes like a bee.

But, it’s the menu that exemplifies Potts Point’s restaurant pedigree, serving up top-notch Greek fare with a modern twist. Order a bunch of share plates and you can’t go wrong. Things like saganaki, vine leaf parcels and BBQ calamari. Or just go ‘The Full Greek’ – an eight-course set menu for $60pp, or make that $65pp if you want to add ouzo.

For something different, you can sit at the ‘chef’s table’, which is a 12-seat marble table, tucked away in a quasi pantry. Adjoining the kitchen, you’ll feel part of the action and can engage in some pillow talk with the chefs.
Leon
The Apollo draws on its Australian and Greek roots and delivers a paunchy rendition of popular dishes. The minimalist restaurant in Potts Point features a generous utilization of marble and rough concrete and a simple layout with an open bar.

I ordered several small plates including a couple of fried king prawns, dry aged pork chop with rosemary garlic and roasted potatoes with garlic herbs. All the three dishes were decent but not exceptional. The fried prawns were juicy and flavourful and it appears that deep frying the prawns has locked in its freshness and savoury marinate. However, the prawns could be fresher so that the texture of the prawns would be springy and succulent.

The roasted potatoes were great too. The marvelous garlic and herbs added a dimension to the potatoes and they served as a capable sidekick to any main dishes.

The dry aged pork chop, however, was dry and hard. The pork cutlet, which was conveniently sliced into chewable portions, was tough and unchewable. You would probably need some minutes to finish each slice.
GREAT food! Obviously their trade mark honey haloumi is the way to start.
Great for a date, or dinner with a close group of friends. It is on the pricer side, but it's good for a special night.
Hungry Couples
Fantastic Greek restaurant I keep coming back for that leaves happy and satisfied. Delicious and beautiful staff and a great dining experience. Amazing slow cooked lamb and the Nagasaki awesome. We never want to leave.
Jessica Wolf
The food was Devine and the atmosphere was fantastic. Everything was great until one of the waitresses talked down at me and kicked me off my table, as she said I was there for too long .. although we spent over $200 .. and were still going to order more food and drinks.
No one should be spoken to like that. What a shame I had such a good time until she came along. She really axed the experience.
Michael Machado
Excellent nocturnal atmosphere. The cheese in honey and oregano and the cauliflower with anchovy butter is a must have. Staff is a bit unfriendly and dishes come in very miniature portions. Price way overrated
The Weekend Foodie
We celebrated a friend's birthday here with a banquet of $70 per head. Let me start off by saying how good the pita bread is haha, our lamb and chicken were impeccable.. ridiculously tender. I wasnt a bit fan of the sweet and sour cheese (saganaki cheese honey oregano)... it had a very strange vinegar flavour which takes time to get accustom to.

Our bellies were very full and had a pretty decent time. My only complaint is how dark the restaurant was, and i wasnt too keen on the desserts, the walnuts filo pastry coffee cream, good for coffee lovers but im not a big coffee drinker so I wasnt a fan of this dish, it was also incredibly sweet. The white chocolate frozen citrus honeycomb was nice but not amazing. Im more of a cake person.
Kristina
Have visited this place numerous time, first occasion everything was amazing except the table next to us who were obnoxiously loud (not the restaurants fault!) BUT every single time after that my opinion of this place has diminished, one time they "forgot" one of our entrees, another time we couldnt be seated straight away, not a problem we'll return in half an hour like the gentleman said, they called us back TWO hours later and seemed upset when i mentioned we already found another place to eat (Fratelli Paradiso ❤), and the most recent experience we were seated at the bar, trying to get the attention of the bartender was hard enough, wait staff were non existent!!! On a wednesday!! They also brought out an entree dish with our main... a little too late dont you think? Probably will return once or twice more to find a conclusive opinion.
Bruce
Fantastic, happening venue with great Greek food dine well with some quirky up market twists. Ambience is great, and the walk in policy takes the stress out of booking... the combination of a big venue and timely delivery of dishes means wait times, even on a Friday night, aren't too bad.
Great fun and good wine list!
Samantha Todd
My favorite place to take friends when they are in town. The service is great and the food is perfect for sharing. Try the octopus, eggplant salad and lamb shoulder. Great cocktails too but you'll need to get there before or after peak hour to avoid waiting too long.
Megan J
Such a fantastic ambience with exceptional service! The varied menu offers excellent Greek fare. The highly vaulted taramasalata is really delicious and we very much enjoyed the slow cooked lamb and sides. Desserts are also a highlight; the doughnuts were as good as promised and the white chocolate dessert with rhubarb and honeycomb was the perfect end to a great evening.
Global Foodie & Filmy
Great atmosphere... Brilliant service and food was delicious. The menu is unique and service very professional. Another place where you should book in advance if a big group. Do take your time to study the menu before.

#poorservice at The Apollo Restaurant
Our Xmas Party was a disaster, one of the worst restaurant experiences in Sydney I've ever had. Touted as a Chef's Table yet neither the chef nor any of the kitchen staff bothered to make any conversation with guests. NO one bothered to explain the menu, how the food is prepared, etc No wine re-fill, water refill, in fact we had seek assistance if we needed service! How can you sell the experience as a 'Chefs Table' when you completely ignore your guests? Good food with a bitter taste, 3/10. This was the worst Sydney Restaurant experience, period. #TheApolloRestaurant #worsethanpoorservice #misleading #chefstabledoesnotexist

So ever since we ate the amazing Kritharaki pasta dish from Broadsheet Restaurant’s popup back in October, Raff, Lauren and I have been dying to visit The Apollo to try the rest of the menu. We start with the Saganaki Cheese Honey Oregano ($17) which arrives all molten and bubbling and is fricken heaven for this cheese lover. It’s oozy, stretchy and that salty sweet combo is just oh so delicious!
Maureen Grace Kuran
Very unique greek restaurant in potts point, the food was great especially the grilled saganaki cheese also that crispy iceberg lettuce with shaved pecorino is a must! it doesn't look good but definitely yummy! A little bit pricey but worth it.Service is good as well. You just have to get in early for dinner or you might not have a table.
Rosie Mansfield
Where do I begin. If the sultry chilled house music and softly spoken hostess doesn't lull you into a euphoric state of happiness, the menu will most definitely make you fall flat on your salivating face! Modern Greek done so very well with understated elegance and powerful taste. If you don't order the Saganaki we are not speaking ever again. Period.
FoodieMania
Had the "Greek For All" selection on the menu - great to share. The pita bread with roe was really yum. The cheese dish was slightly sweet for my liking but my friends loved it. The potatoes were delicious. The salad with feta cheese and olives was yum. The filo with coffee mousse and berries was pretty yummy too. Unfortunately our lamb was quite dry in some parts and not very pleasant to eat. Fantastic attitude and warm welcome from all staff. A popular place it seems for lots - was definitely a bit of a wait to get a table but it was good to place your name in the wait list and get a text later to let you know your table will be ready. Very organized I have to say and we didn't mind waiting. However this place is prob not the best Greek tapas food we've had in Australia but it was pretty good.
Pollo_pesce_me
Group of 5 dined on friday night we ordered a whole heap of food to share. Salads were nice and refreshing and dips were good. Friends raved about lamb dish. Dessert was a little too sweet for everyone's taste. Service and food were overall good but frankly I had better Greek food elsewhere. Another thing i am not crazy about is their booking system if less than 6 people dining they won't book you a table; you will have to go there early when they are open to get a table.
Steph
Awesome! Definitely try the octopus and taramatasalata dip! Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Get there early to leave your name to ensure a seat.
Our favourite restaurant has ruined by hipsters. Apollo has been a regular favourite of ours for a long while. The service was always great and food was also fantastic. Perhaps last night was just an off night. But not sure we can give it another chance.
The hipster barmen and waiters were too busy chatting with their hipster buddies that were dining there, and preening their moustaches to bother bring our wine we ordered. (We had to ask after first course came out) Nor did they bother to top it up from the stash behind the bar.
The food was plonked down randomly and we had to ask to have our plates changed which were full of our prawn heads and shells before our next dish.
We also had to ask for our water to be topped up. We just got tired of having to remind and ask the staff to do their job pretty much.
Perhaps we had a bad taste in our mouths at this stage but the lamb was pretty yuk also.
This was a Monday night so not very busy.
Get rid of the hipster wanker staff that think working in the industry is just about looking cool, and bring back the staff that give a toss about their customers !
Slick service, and Greek food with a modern twist. Apollo seems to be doing a roaring trade with great produce, smart chefs and a menu that's succinct and interesting
Pinna_is
One of my favourite restaurants. Have been twice now, both on Saturday nights. Delicious well prepared dishes, affordable, fantastic dining experience, fantastic staff. "Accidentally" stumbled into the back kitchen area and saw a feast being served right there in the kitchen to a lucky few... Keep an eye out, you'll see what I mean.
_emyruth11
Amazing experience. The food was exceptional, I highly recommend the slow cooked lamb, oxtail and eggplant salad. Our waiter had extensive wine knowledge and helped us match our drinks to each of the meals. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend and be back again.

Five out of five for The Apollo. This was my first time so we order the full Greek. The food was great, service excellent and the atmosphere perfect for a most enjoyable night out.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
A wonderful setting for dinner and drinks with friends. There are two seatings for dinner, 6pm and 8.30pm, and our group opted for the latter so we could linger over our meal.

The restaurant has a wonderful ambience, and provides a beautiful backdrop to what is the most sublime Greek food. We settled for a banquet and were absolutely blown away by the food. Everything was beyond delicious but the slow cooked lamb was a highlight.

Although constantly busy throughout the night, service was efficient.
Gary D
Busy all the time. I prefer lunch here where you can talk & relax. Greek modern at its best. Lamb is sublime. Quirky wine list. Great staff. Another favourite of mine. Must book. Ouzo list great. As far as Greek goes - beats Columbaris by a whisker.
Warren
We were a walk in on a Sunday evening at 7.30. Optimistic I know. But service was great and asked us to wait at the bar and we would get a table in twenty
Minutes.

Sure enough, after a round of cocktails (all good) we got a table. The waitress suggested the $60 set menu and it was a great option. Plenty of food, and finally needed to take home half the baklava.

Warmly recommended.
Kevin H
Excellent food, great shared menu. Dined here with 8 friends for a birthday on Tuesday. The restaurant being full is a good sign of things to come. We certainly were not disappointed. Amazing slow cooked lamb, and the honey cheese - wow. We were certainly stuffed after.
Tortuguita Comiendo
Food is delicious - homely and generous serving sizes. Great wines. Nice atmosphere. However, as it was very busy (and apparently is always very busy) we put our name on the waiting list and went to grab a drink at another bar. After we finished our drinks we walked back to Appollo to see if a table had opened up and there were a few free tables by the time we returned but noone had called us.
Live To Eat
Excellent Restaurant. Awesome, ever-consistent food and perfectly som matched wine. Squid, sheep milk cheese, lamb and memorable dips.

Ideal for a long lunch and dinner to follow, we never want to leave!
Can Eat
This place is pretty hectic, always has a line and u have to leave your name and wait for them to call. Just take bookings you tossers.

Anyway, great atmosphere and great food & wine. We ordered the full Greek which has nice variety and is a good amount of food without needing to purge upon completion like some "feed me" options. The saganaki is irresistibly salty and melty and cheesey. Must get this dish. Lamb shoulder and chat potatoes are simple but done to perfection.

Good Greek grub.
@eatingupwiththehannashians
Our fave Greek restaurant in Sydney. The iceberg salad/saganaki/everything is so on point and beyond delicious. We recommend Apollo to everyone and we always look forward to dining there. The interior is also wonderful as is the service we have experienced.
Journey-fromwithin
When the cheese arrived at the table, we were all left in awe. The honey leaking off the cheese creating bubbles around the hot pan left our mouths gaping wide. Tasting the cheese was almost like reaching heaven, I think, as I wouldn’t know but if I had to imagine it, this would be it. The sweetness from the honey did not overpower the cheese, as you still got that goodness with that pan-fried touch. But eat this while it’s still fresh, as you know what cold cheese can be like. I also decided to eat this with some of our left over pita bread, YUM!
The RnB Diary
As soon as we walked in, I saw Lara Bingle there, not that I cared.

We had a large group of 12 and were ushered to "chef's table". it's behind the dining hall inside the kitchen where you could see the action. The table was actually set inside a walk in pantry where you could see shelves of dry and wet ingredients surrounding the table. It was a bit weird for my liking. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu and shared them all, olives, dips, grilled eggplants, and of course lamb. They were ok, didn't blow my mind but couldn't fault it. I probably would enjoy more if we didn't sit in the dungeon.
ConstantCravings
Craving modern greek food for a friendly gathering?

Be sure to check out the Apollo. Its vibrant atmosphere will get you buzzing and joining in on the conversation. Be sure you go with a group of friends though so you can try out their menu! In our opinion this is not a date restaurant as it is quite loud. However if you are with a bunch of friends and wanting good food and good drinks The Apollo is the place!

Their Loukoumades is a must have!
Sweetandyummie
The food is great here.. Best shared with friends. Customer service is attentive and the atmosphere is beautiful. I highly recommend the chicken and the loukomades .
Nicole P
After waiting for around an hour for a table, which seems quite normal on a Friday night these days, we were seated by a very friendly gentleman. Our order was placed very quickly and the speed that the food actually came out was unbelievable! That's not to say it was anything less than fantastic! We started with bread and tarama, cutely served in a glass jar with peel back lid. The saga ski with honey was so tasty that we were fighting over it! The highlight for me came next- the kritharaki! It had the tastiest cheese crumble on top and the orzo itself was perfectly cooked to al dente and had a lamb flavor through it although I couldn't see any large recognizable pieces of lamb. It tastes exactly if not better than any kritharaki I have ever had, in Australia, at family's houses or in Greece. It was perfection!!! Everything after that was great, the chicken was juicy and not dry at all and had great flavor, the lamb baked in the oven was also succulent and soft but I prefer it a bit saltier. The Greek salad was amazing- they did a great job sourcing very ripe tomatoes! It's rare that you get that these days in a restaurant. The desserts were nice too but the highlight were the entrees.
This is the second time I have been here and if I lived in Sydney it would be my regular weekend dinner place with friends. Just love it. Great ambience, fit out and service too.
Nourishment Bowl
The fit out is incredible, the mood is set immediately when you walk in and it's a great one. Order a drink and sit back and enjoy your meal. The waiters are lovely and helpful. The saganaki is my go to dish, completely melts in your mouth. The only annoying thing is that they have 2 booking times - 6pm and then 830pm and if you have the 6pm booking they do really rush you to get out.
Michael
My second visit with friends. The food is best shared. can be difficult to get a table - arrive early (before 6pm is advisable and then wait). The food is tender, flavoursome with a modern twist on traditional Greek food. We had the split pea dip, Saganaki, grilled calamari Apollo sausage, lamb shoulder and BBQ cabbage. We had the Kourtakis Muscat of Samos (our first experience of Greek dessert wine and we were not at all disappointed - it was superb) to go with the doughnuts - yummmmmm.
GymEatSleep
We had the Full Greek banquet, generous portion. Like the fish roe dip with pita bread, grilled cheese(? tasted yummy anyway) and the walnut filo pastry coffee cream. The lamb was a bit too dry. Overall it was a pleasant place to dine in.
Anna
We held a birthday dinner for 12 in the back private room, off the kitchen. food was amazing. pleased some very fussy guests. The staff must have a huge mention our glasses didn’t go empty once, we didn’t have to ask twice for anything, to be honest we barely had to ask once J, they were so attentive but never intrusive. thank you and have no hesitation in recommending The Apollo
Hungry And Fussy
It’s difficult to impress a group of Greeks dining at a modern Greek restaurant. We are very harsh critics but we were more than impressed by our visit to The Apollo. The elegantly raw concrete interior and simple furnishings are not commonly seen at Greek tavernas but this place is not your standard Greek eating house. The Apollo is Sydney’s best Greek restaurant.
Lex
Great Greek! Best tarama I've ever had, each course of the banquet were lovely and generous. Some of the lamb was a touch dry on top side but tasty and the filo with walnuts and coffee mousse was a delight. Ambience for a Sunday night was superb.

Been here a couple times and haven't had a bad experience. The octopus and potato salad was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The spanakopita was the best I have had, with the goats cheese and chicory adding a slight bitterness to a normally bland dish.
Nikki Cristobal
Not a fan of Greek cuisine but I'm glad my colleagues brought me to The Apollo. Exposed ceilings and concrete walls - really nice place with an unpretentious layout and design. Love the warm pita bread with taramasalata dip and the Saganaki Cheese with Honey and Oregano is to die for!!
Giu
Amazing food and service, loved the fact that overall is pretty casual and not-pretentious. Very happy about the generous portions that make sharing plates actually to share (trust me, we are big eaters and following the waitress advice we order a couple of dishes less than what we wanted and still almost not managed to fit dessert! Lol!)
Maree Webster
I have been here a few times, mostly with groups - the food is extraordinarily good. Delicious and authentic with wonderful produce and the best aperol spritzers.

Have been twice now...the first time was impressive...we avoided the banquet menu as we wanted to sample and try other dishes...we left very impressed @)$100per head... with a desire to return again.
The second time was three of us so I thought to go with the set banquet menu...not great when some servings are shared between three?! That was a bit of a negative unfortunately considering it's not a cheap eat...so my rating has dropped from 4.5 to 4.0

Will return, perhaps, but prefer to avoid the set menu next time.
If you haven't been don't be put off...food,service, and atmosphere is very good 😊

Came here with a big group of girls and had the banquet meal. Lots of food, very tasty. Highlight was definitely the saganaki cheese in the lemon/honey sauce. To die for. Lamb was great as well.

My friends and I were able to walk straight in without a booking on a Saturday night due to a cancellation. We had the set menu. Everything was delicious, particularly the saganaki. There was loads of food (we took some home). Service was efficient and very friendly. Will return.

I attended with a group of friends for a late Saturday lunch and I hate to be critical, but I felt almost apologetic whenever talking with the wait staff as if we were taking up their time. I've been here over a year ago as well, and I can't help but think what the hype is about... Perhaps our ordering is off but I would be ambivalent about recommending it...

I ate here with my friend Dan ages ago, and I returned, maybe a year or two later wondering: is it as good as I remember? The answer, whole-heartedly, is yes. It was hard to go past the ‘Whole Greek’ menu that included homemade taramasalata which is to die for, and a honey-lemon saganaki, which my better half wondered why he’d been missing this all his life.

Massive serves - too massive :(. I came here for dinner with my partner. We ordered 2 entrees, 2 mains and a salad. I asked if there was a salad with the entrees to decide if we needed a side salad, but we were told that all the dishes are designed for sharing so no there was no salad on them. We ordered the Octopus for entree. When it came it was pretty much a mains salad. The other entree - a form of spanakopita was like a main pie. We immediately cancelled the order for a salad and one of the mains, but were surprised the waiter took our order in the first place.

Having felt like we had been able to leave some room, we ordered a dessert each. Loukoumades and a lemon meringue. Both were a full dinner plate.

Whilst the flavours of the meals were amazing, the serving sizes made it hard to savour them. A little bit of lemon meringue is beautiful - a whole bowl is sickly, so is 7 loukoumades in a serve (I don't even get that at gland!). We wish the waiter had advised us to just share a dessert.

if the servings were smaller we would have ordered more and been able to enjoy more. instead we left feeling bloated and tired.

PS best cocktail ever - gin, cucumber and lemon I think.

"It's too late to APOLLOgise" Haha. Had the wettest lamb shoulder here with my homeboys. Service was excellent, though one waiter was overly chatty and tried hitting on us.

The delivery of our food is staggered and gives us an opportunity to try each dish as it comes. I enjoy everything and can’t wait to go back. There are a lot of authentic concepts and flavours served with a modern twist. The fresh ingredients and simple flavours I knew growing up were all there with ‘prettier’ presentation.

...my little brother and I headed out to The Apollo in Potts Point. With a prompt greeting, we were seated immediately with the menu’s in our hands. For a Tuesday night, this place was insanely packed which only meant the food had to be amazing.
The Napoli Alert
When The Apollo opened three odd years ago, it was hot hot hot. And it still is – totally buzzing on a weeknight, with most tables booked for two seatings. Jonathan Barthelmess continues to put some great modern Greek on the table, that even a Yia-Yia would concede is worthy, even if it’s not the way her mother taught her in the village. I’m here with the gal pals from work, and we opt for the $55 banquet menu which leaves us rolling out of there, and the staff have kindly packed up the extras for us to take home.

the dishes are so full of flavour, use fresh ingredients and are perfect for sharing between a group of people.

The Apollo I think I’m slightly obsessed with Greek food! Earlier this year I tried Alpha and absolutely loved it and now I can say I’m a huge fan of Apollo too. I can’t decide which I love more. The food, service and ambience are impressive at both restaurants. Alpha is more on the sophisticated side, where Apollo has an understated, contemporary, urban feel. Both amazing! Here’s the low down on Apollo… Chef Johnathan Barthelmess, former head chef of Manly Pavillion The Vibe This elegantly simple, yet highly impactful minimalistic restaurant is situated on the corner of Macleay St and Crick Ave. Peering through the glowing arched windows before walking in, I was so surprised to see the place was absolutely packed at 7.30pm on a Monday. Inside – unfinished concrete walls, oversized rustic pillars and an exposed off-white painted ceiling.

Have you ever just wanted to go back to Greece or venture to Greece for the first time but not pay $2000 for a return ticket? The Apollo is a dream come true for me, situated in the heart of Potts Point I enjoyed the ideal Thursday night out at this newly opened restaurant.

The Apollo is one of those restaurants that makes me feel lucky. Lucky that I live in a city that has a restaurant like this up the street from my home. Lucky that I live in a country that has such an incredible mix of cultural dining options on offer. Lucky that there are restaurateurs like Jonathan Barthelmess and Sam Christie who tap into their heritage, wrap it in their years of experience and serve up a meal that makes you glad you stepped out for the night.
The industrial like setting is subtle. Yes there is an exposed ceiling but it’s cleverly painted the same colour as the walls so only upon closer inspection can you tell the ducts and wires are out for all to see.

The Apollo is a restaurant that serves Greek food in Australia in a modern way, put simply. Using ingredients that are in season in Oz but go well with Greek staples like octopus and lamb. To start off with we had the grilled octopus with cucumber, oregano and some thin potato chips, $26. The octopus had a great charred flavour and the cucumber soaked up all the juices, very tasty. We said we could have had a plate each. Next up we had the rabbit salad with charred radicchio and manouri cheese,

Opa! The saganaki comes highly recommended and arrives with a little spectacle; served on a board recently finished off in its pan. It's freggan amazing how many cheese qualities are imparted into it. It's got a really nice almost crunchy crust and right underneath it's all melted with the bottom an almost haloumi like consistency and bite. It's served with a tangy honey sauce but it's best shared, however, and had with pita bread as it is a tad overseasoned.

One thing to take note before you rush down to get a taste of the modern Greek dishes, reservations are only taken for a table of six or more, so it pays to arrive early if you don't add up in numbers to book a table in advance. I watched the Maitre d' bring out the waiting list less than an hour after the doors opened, and this was on a miserable wet week night too.
The Sneaky Pigeon
The Greek food here is as beautiful. It's what I love so much about Mediterranean cuisine; the ability to extract so much flavour from a few well-sourced ingredients. As a cheese enthusiast, ordering the baked cheese dish was a no-brainer. Golden fried haloumi came out sizzling in a little pan, covered in bubbling honey and dried oregano. So friggen good.

The verdict – worth the wait – not with out a few little hiccups but for opening night all OK, and a great addition to the food and drink scene in Sydney, and Potts Point in particular. We think this has the makings of a cool Sydney restaurant and bar.
Excuse Me Waiter
Overall, given that this was one of the first times I’ve eaten Greek food, I would say that it has left a good impression on me and left me intrigued to try other dishes within the cuisine. Although some of the dishes were a hit and miss, there were some wonderful highlights like the pork, salad and sausage. Best to come in groups of 4 in order to maximise the number of dishes you can try.
I Don't Like Cooking
As we approached the restaurant, it loomed invitingly from the darkness. We were greeted promptly and given a choice of tables. So far so good. While glancing at the menus, we commented on the décor. Distressed chic. I liked it. I also enjoyed the muted lighting. My disappointment at not seeing spanakopita on the menu didn’t last long– I realised the Wild Weed and Cheese Pie was very similar. Most of my favourites were there.
Food Booze Shoes
With chef Jonathon Barthelmess (ex Manly Pavilion) and Sam Christie (Longrain) at the helm, The Apollo is an exciting modern Greek opening in Potts Point with a corner, window-lined location that's attracting many a local. The arched windows are a fabulous feature of the space, allowing plenty of natural light and passersby to have a nosey look at this latest Potts Point restaurant. I'm a little in love with the decor too, which involves well-spaced tables, paint-peeled concrete walls and bare, unvarnished bentwood chairs (some with arms). Nemea Driopi 2008 Agiorgitko Greek wine is completely new to me, and somewhat new to the staff too, but we happily go with the recommendation for a red wine that's light and fruity. Turns out, Greek wine isn't all that different to Italian or Australian even, and this Agiorgitiko is well-balanced and an ideal partner to a lot of the food. The dishes o

If you want a real feast you can’t go past the “Full Greek” at The Apollo which opened a few months ago in Pott’s Point. Sure you can order dishes individual but $55 buys you plate after plate of fabulous food. To start there's bowls of shiny olives and triangles of pita bread with blush pink taramasalata. Average food at above average prices. The restaurant ethos was to share meals, which isn't a problem in itself. However, the servings were so small that no one on the table of 5 got more than 2 mouthfuls per meal.
I was really disappointed with the food. Most of the flavours were extremely bland, except for the sausages.
For the prices, I was expecting a lot more in terms of flavour, portion size and originality.
The service was mediocre, the staff showed a lack of interest in showing hospitality. And to add insult to injury, a few people at the table were ill later that night and the next day.

If you are interested in decent Greek food, I would not reccommend this establishment. I found that overall, it was a disappointing experience.

It isn't nice to offer us outside seats when there were seating available inside in a 38 degree hot day!

Ahhh delicious, potts point local trying greek here for the first time. Last night we decided to go for greek at the apollo, I am in love with the interior, and the service they give, portions were fairly huge for the price so I would say it was decent. Drinks were amazing, had the greek pickled gin cocktail that was refreshing and had a dash of chilli...mmmhmmm
Most amazing dish that I still can't get over is: the saganaki
We also had the vine leaves wrapped with meat, some olives and the roe dip (taramasalata) which were pretty good but the saganaki was definitely the highlight
Charcoal chicken and the over roasted lamb were cooked to perfection, but I was more into the greek dishes
We ordered ALL desserts from the menu, I must admit they were all so outstanding, from the walnut baklava (walnut filo) with coffee cream that I still can't get over it, to the warm honey glazed greek donut, and the light fruity froyo for those who are watching their weight to the avgolemono which is a lemon meringue cream pie, it was delicious but definitely for those who has a very sweet tooth, some people did not enjoy because it was far too sweet.
We will be back soon :)))

Best saganaki I've ever had and terrific lamb too. Amazing Loukamades and excellent wine list that had good value options.

Ordinary banquet experience. A friend took us here as he had heard it was good, like Hellenic Republic in Melbourne. We had the banquet, with ouzo.
It was very noisy and the waiter seemed quite surly and dismissive. We were first given a small shot of ouzo (expected more than one but that was it), and a plate of olives- very nice. The cheapest wine was $50, and quiet ordinary, which does not allow for a simple wine accompaniment to the meal. The food was average for the price, but nicely presented, and plenty of it, with the taramasolata served in sealed jars, and the bread in a pizza box (gimmick). The Greek salad was very nice, but I prefer my fetta to be crumbly, not creamy, like Bulgarian fetta. The lamb was the stand-out- obviously slow-cooked, and very tender. I could hardly eat any of the potatoes, and only managed a mouthful of dessert, which was a bit dry and ordinary anyway.

So overall, large serves, fairly good food, nothing outstanding- presentation over flavour, over-priced wine, very noisy, average service. Maybe al a carte would be different.

The Apollo. Amazing Greek restaurant. The ambience and the vybe of the place is amazing. The food was unrivalled. We had the Banquete special and it was delicious. The waiter was self absorbed. I requested him to take a photo and he declined. .. promising to be back later but this didn't happen. minor detail though. Will still be going back again!

Calamari Portion. We ordered the sardines and calamari. The first portion was of a decent size, however the calamari we found incredible small... moreover I guess , not sure about the standard here, our wine glasses appeared to be just filled.
The test of all dishes - excellent.

Service is annoying. Food was decent but I find the service incredibly annoying. Dont stand there and hover over me as soon as youve handed me the menu. This kept happening all night before drinks, entrees & mains, and dessert was served. We didn't end up ordering dessert because we were so irritated by the middle aged waiter. We politely asked if we could have five minutes to check the menu. 20 seconds didnt pass before he came back to take our order. This idiot came back another couple times, and scoffed when we advised we hadnt decided. I understand trying to be attentive but the service was downright frustrating and felt interrupted all evening.

Banquet small plates. We ordered the banquet which was a great way to experience the menu highlights. Best parts: fresh, soft pita to scoop up the rich taramasalata dip and large pearls of roe; the decadent sizzling saganaki drizzled with sweet honey and the light walnut filo cigars layered with coffee cream. The slow-roasted lamb was very tender and fell apart when prodded with a fork, but some of us noted that it was too dry in some parts. There lamb and roast potatoes were also very heavily seasoned which made it less enjoyable as many of the preceding dishes were already inherently salty (eg. feta in the Greek salad, mixed olives, taramasalata).
Service was great and the staff were very efficient with clearing plates, bringing out dishes and topping our glasses. Overall, I preferred the smaller plates over the lamb main and would be keen to try the rest of their offerings. Those filo cigars though, will be making repeat appearances in future visits.

A taste of discrimination. On Sunday, 13 July, I arrived at the Apollo at around 2:15pm for lunch. I had two Indian friends with me, one of whom had a beanie covering her bald head. I noticed there were 4 empty tables inside. I told the waitress that I had not made a reservation, but would like a table for 3. She smiled and said, "that should not be a problem, I will check the book", and walked away. As she turned away, a guy walked quickly towards us and said that there were no tables available inside, and that "the only tables available are outside but it's very cold, so I can't help you, I'm sorry." I mentioned that I could see 4 empty tables and he said dismissively, "they're all reserved". I asked him when would a table be available and he said "not for a while". I saw that in 2 tables the patrons were in their dessert. The three of us felt that we had just been discriminated. We felt nauseated and drove home to Milsons Point.

Doesn't take bookings so get there at 6 and guaranteed a seat, nice interior, uncomfortable chairs and close to other tables. Great service and the banquet is the way to go, lambs nice and desserts are amazing I highly Reccomend the loukomades and the avogolemeno pie. Do not order the calamari it's hard and rubbery. Would go back but only for the full Greek banquet.
