Review Yellow - Sydney

Dee Y
Venue was nice and service from our waitress Samantha was nice. Some dishes took a long time to come out. We had a two hours sitting and went over by over 1 hour (we laid right after the final dish). Some dishes were excellent, very flavourful, others (carrot dish) was lacking in flavour. All in all a great option for vegans!

Such a wonderful experience every time! The food is presented so beautifully and the tasting menu is really fun. The staff are all lovely and helpful. The vibe is fancy but not intimidating. I'd definitely take a food enthusiast here to impress them.

Good service with mediocre, small, portioned food. It was $105 plus $90 for matches wines or $70 for non-alcoholic pairings. The non-alcoholic pairings was not worth it, a few of the drinks did not pair well with the dishes. We came with another couple to try the degustation. The menu was interesting. There’s a lot of interesting flavours that I would have never thought to put together, but the portions are very small. There wasn’t a standout dish, some dishes needed to be seasoned properly. The barley dish is odd. I really missed the protein component in each dish, there are vegan/ vegetarian protein options. I understand it’s vegan/ vegetarian, but we basically received overpriced vegetables in small portions. The sommelier who served the matched wines seemed to speak to the rest of table not the person who ordered the matched wines, he very condescending. The décor seems unfinished as well, the ceilings have felt shapes overlaid on top of each other. It gives off the Newtown grunge feel. The walls look dirty with the rough paint job. The toilet door lock needs to be fixed as well. They do provide a nice sanitiser spray on the table.

Love the concept and the atmosphere, the food is beautiful, but I can’t shake the feeling that something is missing. Wouldn’t mind it if the main meal was a bit more substantial. The non-alcoholic drink pairing is an absolute recommendation.

Food was beautifully presented, staff were LOVELY, however considering how much it cost for the set menu, I was hoping that I wouldn’t be leaving hungry. I ended up going out to eat again later that night. I did ask for extra bread and it never arrived. Then the dessert came out so that’s when I realised it was too late to ask for it again. If it wasn’t so expensive I would be willing to give it another chance so unfortunately I won’t be back.

Went in with my partner for the special truffle dinner last night; it was a beautiful experience! Food was great (a lot of interesting flavour/texture combinations with the addition of classic European winter vegetables) - Staff were lovely. We found the portion sizes to be just right.

WOW! What an experience we had at this amazing restaurant. The flavours, presentation and different textures of the dishes were mindblowing. The wines were perfectly paired and explained by manager/sommelier Caitlin. All staff were very friendly and knowledgeable from the gentleman greeting us at the door and seating us at the table, the bartender who helped his colleague out by serving one of the wines and the manager/sommelier who gave us the best service that we experienced in a long time. The standout dishes for us were the Jerusalem Artichoke dish and the Muscovado, pear & "Dutch" gingerbread. The taste of the gingerbread brought me back to my grandparents place in The Netherlands with great memories, love it when food can do that. Chef nailed that one! I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant where you experience genuine hospitality and leave 100% satisfied. I also love the fact that they change the menu every 6-8 weeks. Thank you very much to the whole Yellow team! We will be back for another date night.

Very tasty vegan menu. It’s amazing how they can make veggies so enjoyable both visually and taste wise. Service was just perfect. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Went for my wife's birthday and it was absolutely fantastic. We had the 7 course tasting menu with wine and it was awesome. Each course had its own distinct taste witch flowed into each other so well. The staff were fantastic, they were friendly and all of them knew their dishes and could explain what it was and what was special about it. The wine matching was superb with a great explanation of the wine and how it complimented the meal. I am a carnivorous beast but I found the meal very tasty, filling and loved all of it. We will definitely be going back to try the winter menu and have no hesitation in recommending this place to others.

So amazing! Great service and incredible food. We had the 7 course degustation but the 5 course would have sufficed. Best seat in the house at the ballroom table and enjoyed a quick cocktail by the bar post meal. Highly recommend Yellow for a truly special dining experience.

Exceptional food and service, even though there was only one in our group that was vegan, since it was his bday he chose this gorgeous restaurant. Surprised by the dishes, delicious flavors, my fave was jerusalem artichoke and I got shaved truffle on mine which made the dish sublime. Will definitely go back.
Rachael Miles
Absolutely spectacular food. Lots of interesting textures, but the flavours in every dishes just popped. Especially enjoyed the eggplant and the yoghurt. My only gripe would be that the service was not as attentive as it could have been a few times throughout the night. But they were very pleasant. (My friend also wasn’t thrilled with the goats milk ricotta.) all in all an amazing night! Thanks for a lovely meal!

We had the 5 course vegan menu and absolutely loved every single course! So tasty and smooth and the portions looked amazing, to my experience prepared with beautiful intention. We went early - 6pm, there was only one other table taken, got great service, for each dish an explanation of what we were about to eat. By 8pm when we left it started becoming a full house, this was a Tuesday. Good timing between bringing out the dishes. Great ambiance in the restaurant as well. Will go again and bring friends.
Mamta Manjumedha
Flavours on point. Great service and ambiance. I want to go back again and again and try all the menu.

We had 5 course vegetarian tasting menu on Saturday evening. The ideal of Vegetarian degustation is brilliant. Love the way they serve food. The foods taste heavenly and the staffs are friendly . A very nice place and worth the money .

This place was amazing! 5 Star food & Service! This is where you walk away satisfied with every dish and it couldn't have come out better even if you tried. See you again. xoxo

Went to yellow tonight for my birthday and I couldn't be happier with the service and the food. Absolutely delicious. I also need to mention Ryan who made our night especially memorable. Would definitely dine there again! :)

Yellow is a vegan and vegetarian fine dining restaurant in Potts Point. We went there for my birthday and we had a 5-course degustation with cocktails. There are not many vegan and vegetarian fine dining restaurants in town, and Yellow is an extraordinary representative.

The food was creative and presented beautifully. The choice of ingredients is simple but gives you an interesting palette of taste. The interior is on the warm tone with a rustic look, and the use of colour yellow coherent with the name seems very playful. If you are an adventurous foodie and want to explore more vegan/ vegetatian options, or a casual romantic date, why not give Yellow a go?

This is a nice vegetarian restaurant in Potts Point easily walkable from Kings Cross Station. The dishes are designed to share and my favourites were the charred sourdough, baby sweet corn and shiitake mushroom. The service got progressively slower during the night but the staff were lovely otherwise.

Vegan Tasting Menu : 😍 Amazing
Service : 😍 Amazing

If you’re looking at the menu and finding it difficult to choose a dish to try then I highly recommend Yellow’s tasting menu. It made the hard decisions for us and everything was magnificent. The tasting menu comes as a five-course or seven-course degustation. The food was full of flavour and plated so beautifully. Dessert was basically to die for. Service from the staff members was exceptional from start to finish. Worth every penny in my opinion.
Susan
What a great experience! It is really fine dining without the need to go so fancy. The cuisine is vegetarian/vegan, and even though I was a little hesitant at first I was not disappointed. The food was amazing and the dessert was so good that I’m still thinking about it!!
Marianna Tuccia
This vegetarian and vegan restaurant unreservedly merits it’s two hats. Delightful and knowledgeable waiting staff, hip decor, creative and innovative dishes. The emphasis on seasonal and unusual ingredients gets big ticks from me. This was my fourth visit and I cannot wait to visit again. #vegan #vegetarian

I went to Yellow for mine and my partners anniversary dinner and it was the most incredible experience. I was nervous going in because I wasn’t sure which dishes or how many were vegan but I was so pleased to hear from my waiter that every savoury dish could be made vegan! I started off with the apricot cocktail and my partner had the strawberry. I love fun so mine was delicious but Matt’s strawberry cocktail was so interesting, in the best way! For our main dishes we chose the zucchini flower, sweet potato chipotle tortillas, the baked onion with the most incredible sauce and filling inside (which was happily soaked up by their delicious freshly baked bread) and the eggplant dish. The last two dishes we absolutely incredible. I can’t choose which one I loved the most! They were both so delicious and tasted unlike anything I’ve ever had before. The dessert was also out of this world. We got the fig which was served with the most non vegan tasting ice cream and candied hibiscus flower, as well as a bunch of other yummy goodies.

The price point was also fantastic! I was expecting to pay at least $200 but it was only $144 for all of those dishes. We left feeling satisfied and so happy. The waiters are also so lovely and happy to help!

Love the use of native Australian ingredients in the dishes. The melon sorbet was absolutely incredible! The flavours of every single dish were so well balanced. Staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. They knew every single dish inside out! Definitely recommend the tasting menu.

Just popped in for coffee and dessert. Amazing flavour. Different to anything I'd had before. Didn't book but staff found a table for us.Staff was friendly and helped a lot. Food was fantastic and view was fabulous.Would definitely recommend.

Can’t recommend this place enough. We had such a good time here. The food was delicious but I would come back just on the back of their fantastic service and hospitality. The place is cozy and a nice balance of fine dining and unpretentious atmosphere.

Friendly Staff, nice settings.. tried the 7 course #Vegan Meal, the corn sorbet was interesting and a first for me.
I recommend you get an uber as parking is scarce.
The Cheesy Charlatan
The Spot: warm, dim lighting - flattering if you’re looking haggard, inconvenient if you want to take photos. I noticed that despite being generously busy, there’s a quietness about this restaurant that I loved - perfect for catching up with a friend or date.

The Service: we had an array of waitstaff - most of them incredibly humble and personable with the one stray mumbler who didn’t seem like the loved the food as much as the others.

The Food: we (two smallish females) were recommended to go for the 5-course but in retrospect we could’ve comfortably finished the 7. First of all the complimentary bread - direct portal into my heart. Gloriously crisp yet moist and chewy on the inside. I would say the overall impression was that texture and umami were heralded in our set. Lots and lots of umami, to the point where our 3rd main was a touch repetitive. However the last main was by far our favourite - artichoke and goats yoghurt, flakey, succulent, perfectly balanced. The dessert was another jaw-dropper. The licorice honeycomb was ingenious and this coming from a non-licorice fan. We were so blown away that we ordered a second dessert separately. Best. Decision. Ever.

We chose Yellow because we love vegetables and wanted to know how they’ve pushed the boundaries with it - we got that and more. I would say that some more variety in the set was needed - perhaps a soup/broth to add some temperature and break up the umami (someone shoot me if I say that word again), and perhaps playing more with the chilli spectrum. The standout for me is how expertly they treated their dairy, both in mains and desserts. I’m definitely going to try their other restaurants.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to..completely fresh and organic place..really good spread..though something’s may not be nice to our taste..especially since we may not have tried a few ingredients! But over a fabulous experience quite a wide spread and also slightly on the expensive side! But definitely worth the experience and quality!
The Miniature Life
We started off with some bread and yummy nutty butter, along with small turnips coated in a sesame coating. The bread was warm and soft and paired beautifully with the butter. I expected the turnips to be a little bitter, but they were deliciously sweet and crunchy. The strong roasted sesame flavour was powerful and complimented the mild bitterness and watery taste of the turnips. It's a little awkward that I am realising now that this was actually an addition to our tasting menu!

Next up, and the actual start to the menu, the 'Jersey Milk Curd + Cucumber + Spring Herbs'. The curd was delicious and soft and very mild in flavour. The cucumber portion was essentially a soup coating the curd which added a strong and fresh flavour, alongside the sharp herbs. It was a really beautiful combination of rich and creamy with the curd, fresh and slightly bitter from the cucumber and sharp with the herbs. Definitely a beautiful summery start to our dinner.

The 'Butternut Pumpkin + Miso Butter + Saltbush' was probably the most stand-out item for us on the menu. We even asked how in the world they made it, because we were making all the yummy noises. I even overheard the table next to us comment that they wanted whatever the hell we were having because of how much we clearly enjoyed it. The pumpkin was soft, and just packed with buttery miso flavour. There was delicious crispy curry leaves served over the pumpkin, a beautiful smooth hollandaise made with more pumpkin, and a Japanese style tomato spice powder. Trust me you want this - regardless of which menu you opt for :P

Next came the 'Forbidden Rice + Aromatic Sauce + Smoked Yogurt' which came alongside some char-grilled cabbage. Unfortunately this was the only let down in terms of the menu. We found the flavours a little overpowering. The smoked yogurt was delicious, however it was that smokiness that really took over the already smokey flavour of the rice. I felt like some freshness to cut the flavours would have worked wonders.

Okay finally let's talk about dessert - which I really loved. This was the 'Mandarin + Coconut + Toasted Almond', which was a beautiful combination of gelato, fruit, the coconut and almond. There was smooth textures, crunchy, sour flavour, sweetness and amazing nuttiness. There were little icy bits and little warm bits - honestly I cannot explain it. There was a lot happening, yet all the tastes were so subtle. I definitely recommend this dessert if you are a fan of citrus fruits!

Let me circle back to the small portions - the portions are actually substantial! We struggled to finish off everything, and we really needed to get up and walk around for the food to settle down. Skip your lunch for the 5 course menu, and just don't eat for the whole day for the 7 course in my opinion.

Let's rate this marvellous place

Service: 10/10

The waitstaff is exceptionally friendly, and made jokes while we dined also. Nothing inappropriate ofc, just fun banter. I appreciated how quickly our food came to us, and the small explanations of everything we were eating was so appreciated.

Ambiance: 10/10

The motifs were warm, and I really loved the exposed brick walls. The dim romantic lighting honestly makes it a perfect intimate dinner spot :)

Menu: 8/10

I think there are a lot of non-traditional combinations on the menu, which can make it a little difficult for some customers. It's still a beautifully arranged selection however.

Value for Money: 9/10

We left the restaurant feeling exceptionally full. The 5 course tasting menu, at $75 was tough to finish up!

The Food: 9/10

One point off for the one item we didnt enjoy, and it's only one point because the rest was honestly so phenomenal.

Overall: 9.2/10 Seriously, get yourself here for amazing vegetarian food.
Aimee.
Definitely an unique dining experience for me. Hardly ever any vegan degustation restaurants so this really stood out for me. We got the five course meal and everything was presented nicely. The service was great and the waiter was always attentive.

Like the best of us, I’ve waged my own personal war against vegetables in the past. Some, like me, predominantly during that prepubescent stage where food on the table was declined on the basis of being “weird-looking” (this was brinjal in particular for me). I grew out of this stage fairly quickly, spurred on by my maternal grandmother, who never asked anything of me other than to be a person who could handle their spicy food and also consume vegetables. I’m thankful for this, and not just for all the obvious reasons for why we should be eating more greens. Dining in Sydney continues to push boundaries away from the throng and one such movement is the growing number of restaurants that champion vegetables in their hero dishes. To get a more thorough understanding of this, it only makes sense to venture into Yellow’s den. Located in Potts Point, they were trading like any other omnivorous restaurant, until turning vegetarian just over two years ago.

Yellow is simply delicious from one dish to another. Their degustation is well spaced but more importantly yum from start to finish. Vegetarians and carnivores alike will find happiness in this food.

Very innovative dishes!! The most popular dishes like the eggplant and licorice bread are SO good. Wasn’t too big of a fan of the leek dish, the corn dish was ok. Stick with the best sellers and you’ll be good! But oh god I miss the licorice bread, amazingly crunchy outside and mushy inside like a banana bread, with some soft sweet butter spread! Weekend brunches are not vegetarian just FYI

Wow what an experience... 😍

Hands down the best vegan "fine dining" experience to date!!!!

We chose the 7 course and every dish was such a pleasant surprise. So delicious and really innovative with the ingredients. I'm pretty sure most people's fav dish would be the eggplant. This was just insane. I honestly have never tasted eggplant this amazing before. INSANE.

Can't even remember each and every detail because it was all so mindblowingly good, but all I can say is this is a must try! I left with a full belly - of both food and happiness! Would highly recommend Yellow. 💛

Very nice. Fav thing was that there was no faux meat or seitan or tempeh on the menu! Feels a little over priced, but there’s no question a lot of thought and effort have gone into the preparation and the presentation of each dish. About $28-$30 a plate and they recommend 5-6 for 3 people. We got 4 dishes and bread and the 9pp taster. I like the concept but just felt it was too pricey.

Went here for my 6 year anniversary with my partner and ordered the vegan degustation. I am absolutely amazed at how incredible every single dish was!! I tried not to have high expectations to avoid disappointment but this restaurant 100% lives up to the hype and great reviews!!! The eggplants dish with corn was my favourite course. And the dessert - mandarin and coconut - I didn't think I would like as the flavours are not ones I would usually go for, however it was also amazing!!! They can do no wrong! The service was also extremely professional and we did not feel rushed at all despite being allocated a specific time slot. Highly recommend for special occasions.

This is some seriously good food. We did not realise it was a banquet (5 or 7 dishes) and I'm glad we didn't know because we may have decided against it, then we would have missed out.

Put your taste buds in their hands - these people know what they are doing with flavour & texture. Even foods I don't normally like much (ie coconut) were absolutely delicious.

And the vodka, lemongrass & coriander cocktail was also amazing! No hesitation recommending this place.

Came for a brunch and wasn’t that busy. We ordered the corn custard With poached egg and pumpkin with miso crumb. Both were nice with the pumpkin being the more interesting of the two. However it was quite a small serve for the price.

Yellow in Potts Point manages to showcase how delicious vegetarian food can be in a fine dining setting. We tried the five course tasting menu and it was a wonderful play on flavours and textures throughout. We started with a little appetiser to warm up our taste buds: Peruvian potato chip with black garlic sauce and Szechuan pepper salt.

I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty vegetarian food can be after a visit to Yellow and trying the 5 course tasting menu. The eggplant dish was particularly nice, especially since I usually hate eggplant !
Eatdrinkbe_merry
Do not let the fact that Yellow is a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options put you off coming. The food here is carefully considered, full of flavour and ingeniously created. Went for a late weekend lunch and shared two dishes and a dessert. The brassica (like broccolini), quinoa, sunflower and green juniper was so tasty, fresh and creamy. The forbidden rice, green beans, smoked yoghurt (not vegan) and aromatic sauce hit the ball out of the park for me as I have never seen anything quite like it, but was so warming, satisfying and smokey. Dessert .... must have chosen the signature dish as it was many shades of Yellow and delightful to eat....the mandarin, coconut and toasted almonds with a verjuice granita! Wow! Every dish was worthy of forgetting traditional manners and just using fingers to finish the last drop of sauce. My friend made the comment at the end of the meal which I thought I would share "Wouldn't even need dishwashers around here!" Never has a truer word been spoken".

One word to describe the 5 Course Vegan Tasting Menu: Remarkable 4.5/5! Our favourite courses were the smoked potatoes, eggplant and mandarin coconut dessert.
- Course 1: Cultured curd + baby cucumber + sesame leaf + koji biscuit (3/5): Of all the dishes this one was probably the least impressive but still enjoyable. The cucumber smell is strong but the flavour was pleasant and the char added a nice smokiness to the dish but it wasn't too memorable.

- Course 2: Chargrilled zucchini + quinoa + green juniper (4.5/5): This was such a step up from the first course. The zucchini was somehow cooked to taste so creamy, decadent and filling. The crispy leaves on top was a lovely contrast.

- Course 3: Smoked Potatoes + chestnut + pepperberry (4.5/5): THESE POTATOES. OMG. They are simply addictive and they leave you wanting more. Perfectly smoked and lightly crisp on the outside and just melt in your mouth on the inside. It was the table favourite. We were also given a side dish of salad with cauliflower purée which some of us liked and some of us could have done without.

- Course 4: Eggplant + corn + black garlic (4/5): These are my three favourite ingredients so it was bound to be a winner. There were crispy puffs of wild rice which really brought out the dish. The eggplant was lovely and he corn was deliciously charred but the sauce was slightly overpowering and too salty. Overall, still a wonderful dish.

- Course 5: Mandarin + coconut + toasted almond (5/5): I COULD EAT THIS OVER AND OVER. The coconut was not too sweet and creamy, the mandarins are too tart on their own so make sure you have it with all the other elements and you'll have a lovely mouthful melody! The toaster slivered almonds are just DIVINE and add a lovely crunch while the granita makes it refreshing. What a perfect combo!!!

Went here this past weekend, had the best time. Delicious food, great flavours and amazing service. Both desserts in the degustation were particularly incredible. Felt so full afterwards. Would 100% recommend.

For a seasoned food taster and chef for the past 6 or 7 years, there are very few restaurants, cafes or bars around the globe which intrigue me. I believe all food institutions should have a solid foundation in food preparation, an ethical and sustainable procurement of ingredients, an innovative and progressive menu, as well as a personable dining experience regardless of size and reputation.

Yellow is one of a handful of restaurants in Sydney (sadly but factually) which impresses me greatly. For a predominantly carnivore like me, visiting a vegetarian fine-dining restaurant and trying a 7-course degustation menu is a gamble. But this gamble paid off marvelously.

Situated in the historic Yellow House building in Potts Point, the namesake restaurant is sleek and beautiful with its dimly-lit interior, wooden flooring and comfortable sofas.

The delightful gastronomic adventure begins with a mild avocado with pine nuts and native lime and the awesome zucchini topped with sunflower seeds and quinoa. The multiple layers and texture that comes with every bite of the zucchini, sunflower and quinoa is further enhanced by contrasting but complimentary flavours of the green juniper. The thick and silky potato purée adds to the overall taste in a sophisticated fashion.

The eggplant is prepared in similar and meticulous manner too. Covered with black garlic and dunked in the therapeutic ginger broth, the variated texture ensures that the nondescript eggplant become one of the highlights of the course. (I really liked how the chefs focus on the olfactory receptors!)

Several points to note too: Some of the dishes were served scalding hot and the kitchen needs to know that.

The starchy main courses, the heirloom potatoes and forbidden rice, were impressive too. Topped wth chestnut purée and mixed pepperberries, the heirloom potatoes surprises me with an explosion of spices and flavours. The forbidden rice (essentially just a fancier name for black rice) combines flawlessly with the smoked yoghurt and yellow beans to deliver the ultimate alternative to rice dishes. However, it will be better if the chefs could add layers and textures to the rice just like the previous few courses.

The desserts were eye-opening for me because I did not know certain vegetables can be transformed into sweet (not too sweet) and delightful treasures. The mixture of shaved persimmon and flaky almonds were fragrant and delightful but could be further improved with a chewy or rubbery ingredient to break the monotony of chewing on the tiresome almond nuts. Last but not least, the black licorice covered with a generous layer of fennel curd and raspberries, gave the degustation course a wonderful conclusion. Mildly sweet, chewy and creamy, the dessert extends the width of our tastebuds through this exotic combination of ingredients.

In conclusion, Yellow is a memorable gastronomic experience which perks me up after a series of forgettable and disappointing meals in the past few months.

If you haven't tried Yellow, you should.

This place is actually amazing. I don't like licorice but their licorice baked bread is so amazing. The whole meal was great - I haven't tasted food like this before. I really enjoyed myself here. Even the drinks are great. Must try.

The food was most certainly exceptional, had the cured ocean trout with pancake & yolk. It was a simple dish & light in serving, but every mouthful was a delight. The pancake was the fluffiest & lightest I've tasted. The oozy yolk & dressing was a great variation to the usual sweet syrup or savoury hollandaise to keep things moist. The trout was smooth in the mouth. The green juice I got of celery, kale, cucumber & mint was very refreshing & none of the normal "green juice", grassy taste. The service was prompt & efficient. The waitstaff weren't actually rude, but didn't make any effort to be friendly either. In fact I felt quite ill at ease, felt like me being there eating was intruding on their space. It was Sunday afternoon, they were mostly emptied despite all the surrounding places being packed. The food is great enough for a repeat visit, but hope I get a better experience next time.

I have waited a long time for this experience and it did not disappoint. After being 26 years Vegetarian it felt like an utter dream to be waited on, dish after dish, with creative and well thought out meals. Seasonal, ethical and damn tasty - whats not to like!
Warren Klein
Certainly different, works on a philosophy of "less is best". Hard to get a satisfying meal, would have preferred a generous salad to bulk up with to supplement the small unique serves. I think I was just in the wrong place to appreciate and was there to celebrate a birthday for a vegetarian. Table service was excellent.

Delicious food!! The venue is gorgeous as was each of the items we ordered. Definite fave was the goats cheese tofu and the carrots! I will definitely be popping back and dragging my carnivore friends with me to give this great restaurant and it's incredible cuisine a go!
Djibril Michel
We have been here for breakfast in the past and the menu was exquisite. Decided to try lunch and whilst the lack there of meat dishes, this place did not disappoint with their interpretation of flavours with vegetarian designed dishes.

I went to Yellow last night for the 2nd time and had the tasting menu.

It was, quite simply, one of the most sublime meals I've ever had. I was with my 75-year old Mum & Aunt, both of whom have travelled the world, & my Aunt said it was the best meal she'd had in her life. & I don't think she exaggerated.

It's so great to see a restaurant with passion & drive like Yellow. They're taking things to a different level & the care and attention they take to each dish stands out a mile. Every course was sensational - so well crafted - and tasted incredible.

& no pumpkin - hallejuah !!! I've been veggie over 30-years and get offered pumpkin as a veggie option 9.5 times out of 10. It's that or risotto & I'm sick of both of them.

I had an amazing time at Yellow & I'll be back with more friends !!!

Overall, highly recommended & makes other Sydney chefs look really, really lazy. Yellow is where others will learn from.

Good place for vegetarian eats. Great service and lovely atmosphere.
Great for a first date as it has quite an extensive menu and has a romantic ambience.
Definitely rate this place and would go back again.

I was rooting for this all-vegetarian concept to be wonderful. Service, ambiance, drinks were great. Overall, however, I was disappointed in the food. I tried the porcini biscuit, fennel salad, and cauliflower dishes. I found the food underseasoned and unfilling. Would have perhaps been decent for the novelty if it was much cheaper or if there was much more of it.

Yellow is an elegant vegetarian restaurant, it’s degustation only on Saturdays and with any excuse to eat all the food Ash makes a booking. As a meat-eater I admire how creative the chefs are with purely plant ingredients. I cannot help but find myself expecting rich umami-something from the mains. It’s what I’m used to, what you get here instead are dishes like Kohlrabi, enoki mushroom, vegetable broth that are light on the palate, tasting of Spring-time and varying textures to keep you interested like in Celeriac, sesame, shark fin melon - the melon pulled into strands and twirled onto a creamy celeriac sauce.
Andy Quan
Instead of thinking of vegetarian and vegan food as lacking in meat, why not think of it as a particular culture or style of eating? For a visit to Yellow could be like making a choice to eat at a particularly fine French bistro, or an unusual ethnic restaurant, except the specialty here is high-end vegetarian cuisine.
Rose Marie
We loved the new vegetarian menu - there were 3 of us. Some of the sauces were used across a few meals, however. The service was very good, but for a restaurant that charges $100 up per person, they could really replace a broken toilet seat, don't you think? I think our bums are worth it, Yellow.
Tee
Disappointed that the breakfast menu wasn't vegetarian, after hearing so many good things about the vegetarian dinner. Felt like there were limited vegetarian options for breakfast, especially, if you're hungry. They are, however, willing to charge you extra for substitutions of the meat products in the breakfast meals, despite not using the meat. So kind. Note that while cards are welcomed, they do charge 1.5% surcharge on all cards, not just credit cards - claiming this is a pass on fee from banks.
Food wise - interesting menu, modern decor, adequate service (longer waits for order, table clean and payment than I'd expect with 5 staff members milling around, not too personable either. But adequate.)
Had the baked eggs with cauliflower - rich and salty, good textures, and unique flavours especially with the cauliflower having being pickled.
Coffee well made.

This restaurant made me feel sorry for vegetarians.

The meals were presented with care, looked great and were of a high standard.

Our biggest exception was the fact the dishes and the entire meal was completely unfulfilling. We had 3 small plates and 2 main plates (for 2 people).

There was nothing remarkable about any dish. You felt like you were eating a side dish every time. Im sure the ingredients were of a high quality / organic etc but we did not leave satisfied or that we had felt like we had eaten a meal.

The prices are extortionate. Main plates are around $28 each - a vegetable side dish in any other restaurant would have more food on the plate.

The starters were comical when you see the sIze of the bites.

Do go. It's fancy, it's hipster, it's cool.

We thought it was a complete joke however.

Well if you ever thought vegetarian food isn't interesting or amazing then Yellow will dispel all the misconceptions straight away.

The service was quick and friendly, the 5 or 7 course option (we opted 5 course) was perfectly proportioned & each course was an exciting surprise of amazing flavours & creative combination of vegetarian ingredients.

The highlight was the desert course of pumpkin ice cream, with a licorish honeycombed. Stunning!!!!
My first visit back to Yellow since they turn all vegetarian for dinner (meat options still available during weekend brunch btw).
All of the dishes we had was delicious. The flavours were well balanced and love the various textures in the dishes.
Our favourites for the night was the Roasted Cauliflower w/ Pickled Eggs and Jerusalem Artichoke w/ Pressed Curd & Laver Sauce - standout dishes !
Despite having no meat in any of the dishes we left the restaurant feeling full to the brim and extremely satisfied.
Yellow shows that vegetarian dishes doesn't mean it has to lack in oomph !! They can turn a carnivore into a vegetarian I'd say.

I love vegetables, so I was pretty keen to find out how Yellow is tackling a full switch to a vegetarian menu. I’ve been to Yellow twice before it went down the veggie route – for brunch (which still has non-veg options now) and for dinner. Yellow’s siblings Monopole and Bentley were my preferred restaurants, but with this new move towards innovative veg-friendly food, I actually think Yellow has upped the ante.

Yellow was even better than I expected for a vegetarian and vegan night time dining menu. We had an excellent set of share plates with each one different and unique with focus vegetable complimented by the likes of seaweed, mushroom, herbs, coconut, buttermilk and yoghurt. Yellow's chef has taken created a sublime non-meat menu that would even satisfy a carnivore. Worth it, absolutely worth it. 10/10

Yum.Had scrambled eggs on toast with tomatoes and homemade bacon. The eggs were creamy and light, the tomatoes had a beautiful dressing on them and the homemade bacon was so good and a first for me.

On a completely random Thursday, a last minute decision saw me with a table for two at the reputable YELLOW restaurant in Potts Point. The restaurant has gained attention with its decision go vegetarian and vegan only (*gasp*) for its night time menu. Rest assured the breakfast and lunch menu have hints of animal flesh including housemade bacon. However for diners, this is one destination that you can indulge in fantastical vegetarian dishes without judgement.

Food was good & tasty, but service was bad.

I came here a little while ago for my birthday with my partner. We ordered a range of dishes which tasted great but we had a rude waiter.

It was really difficult to get his attention and he seemed to be having a bad day, giving us some attitude.

I won't be back and won't recommend this place.

Inside Yellow House, the building that once housed Sydney’s most avant-garde artists' collective, Brent Savage and Nick Hildebrandt have recently relaunched their one-hatted bistro as an entirely vegetarian affair. Drawing upon his personal experiences of dining with a vegetarian wife, Savage has created an imaginative menu that should have your vegetarian friends cooing with delight. What’s perhaps even more surprising, is that confirmed carnivores in your party will be hard pressed not to love these dishes too. A pretty water garden of Pea Mousse and Pickled Daikon ($24), dotted with fresh peas and nasturtium leaves, is given umami using burnt buttermilk crumbs. This savoury (dare I say: meaty) middle is so often lacking in vegetarian dishes, but present in spades here

Excellent restaurant for both brunch and dinner. At brunch, order the liquorice bread as an extra - it is so amazing and better than what you would imagine. Get in early on weekends for an outdoors table. Very exciting brunch menu - more interesting than the usual fare.
Belly Rumbles
It’s been hot news since the beans were spilled that Yellow at Potts Point was turning vegetarian on the 17th February. It’s a bold move for one of Australia’s top restaurants to ditch meat and go down the herbivore path. Though they haven’t gone the complete vegetarian route. The weekend breakfast/brunch menu still offers dishes to satisfy hungry carnivores.

Went for the degustation, quite disappointed. Dishes completely lacked flavour and balance. Some nice elements but no dishes which made me think 'oh nice!'. Texture also wasn't used particularly well.
Their bread was great though as were the Parmesan crackers. And the service was wonderful.
Just a shame about the food. With so many great places out there for a degustation Yellow, for me, did not meet Sydney standards.

We are on holidays which for me means staying in Sydney and punctuating beach visits with cafe noshing.

Today its Yellow. Only does breakfast on weekends. Lucked into a park on nearby St Neot street. I could live there as an aside.

We had the eggs and thick cut bacon. Yumpt. And the baked eggs. Also good.

No large takeaway coffee. A small miss but coffee OK. Kenny had the oat weetbix. That was the high point in a menu that needs some
Innovation.
The RnB Diary
Of all the tasting menu I tried in Sydney (and I have tried a few), this was by far the worst one.

We had a good time in Monopole so decided to try this place since they were managed by the same people. It was disappointing from the food to the wine. The serving size for multiple course meal was usually small and never once before I had left my dish unfinished. I did in Yellow. One of the course (pork belly) was so terrible from choice of ingredients (mostly layer of fat) to execution (bland, under seasoned) , I couldn't bring myself eating it. We chose a bottle of French red priced at $85, but if I did a blind test I wouldn't pick it from a tenner from Dan Murphy's.

The licorice bread is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It will continue to be the stuff of my dreams for years to come. Also the breakfast bacon is the chunkiest chunk of yummy salty goodness ever! Love this place!
Sweetandyummie
Cute restaurant that has a strong local following. I went specifically for dessert and i was not disappointed. The Licorice bread is the freaking best. The coffee is Vittoria. I will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu.
The Very Hungry Katerpilla
A chilled out place for all day breakfast and a lunch menu that kicks in at 11am. Old school cappuccino with a thick foam that is guaranteed to give you a frothy milk moustache and generously dusted in chocolate. Famous for their poached egg dish (three 63° eggs, pumpkin consomme, mushrooms - slight, I assume seasonal variations over time) and amazing grilled licorice bread with homemade whipped butter. A crunchy smoky crusted bread with a moist fluffy yet dense interior, almost like a brownie in texture! Definitely one for licorice lovers or for someone wanting to try something unique. My mandarin black chai balanced the sweet licorice bread nicely.

Three of us went there for a Saturday brunch. It was really busy during that time but we still managed to get a proper table without reservation. We ordered two eggs with mushroom and one baked egg, also shared a beef flank as well as the charcoal bread for dessert. I expected a lot from the eggs w/ mushroom tho it came out just average and we even agreed that the baked egg are much better in taste. Beef flank was also average, texture was nice but the flavour was a bit out. The bread was unique, it goes well with the butter served with it.

We’ve been wanting to try Yellow’s breakfast menu for a while now. Recently awarded it’s second chef’s hat in a row in the SMH Good Food Guide, we decided that it’s time we visited. Situated in a converted 1950s art gallery in the leafy, sophisticated suburb of Potts Point, Yellow is in good company with Monopole and ChoChoSan as neighbours. We arrived just before 11am on a Sunday morning and was surprised to find the restaurant not full with several tables available indoors – however the warm Spring weather persuaded a couple of patrons to wait for the outside tables.

Visited for brunch. Lovely scrambled eggs - and a delicious array of pastries available. Service is quite slow but the food is good, so will be back.

Quality food, fancy place, friendly service and reasonable price ;) one of the best brunch places eva... Their baked egg and chorizo is the best 😍

Best Smoked bacon. The house smoked bacon here is amazing! Ordered as a side and got a large slab of bacon for $7! The 63 degree eggs in pumpkin consomme and mushroom was a different dish that I hadn't tried before served lukewarm - not sure if it was meant to be hotter but I would have liked the consomme hotter like a broth. I bit too many eggs in one dish for my liking. A slice of toast as an extra is ideal to help soak up all 3 eggs. The consomme was a bit sweet from the pumpkin. Next time I'll go for the scrambled eggs with bacon or sandwiches which looked great.
Brunch On Joy
Yellow doesn't serve up your classic breakfast menu but a short list of original and inventive interpretations showcasing some real skills so be prepared for something different.

I’m a big fan of beef tartare so when I saw the menu item for Yellow had changed from the stated menu item to beef tartare I went straight for it. I enjoyed kohlrabi back at Pei Modern recently and really liked the radish-like texture again here, the tartare itself was very flavoursome and really enjoyable.

Weekend Lunch at Yellow... -- The Food -- Scrambled Eggs, Toast, Baby Tomatoes, House- made Bacon ($17) Scrambled eggs were super smooth and cooked to perfection. House- made Bacon was full of flavour which was not too salty yet juicy. Tomatoes were sweet and fragrant. Combination of everything worked well. Kurobuta Pork Neck, Fennel, Green Chilli Salsa ($17) Pork neck was tender, not dry but lacked flavour. Fennel was not too over- powering. Would have been nice if the green chilli salsa was more flavourful. I found the sandwich as a whole slightly bland. Overall, the food was average - good. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs with house- made bacon. The sandwich was 'just a sandwich', probably wouldn't get it again. Will be back for dinner!

I would be extremely close to going back to Yellow purely for the food. I can understand when a cafe is raw, but in this case it was a bit flat. Perhaps we came after a particularly big night; perhaps we didn’t!

Hot off the press, chef Brent Savage has won the 2015 Good Food Guide Chef of the Year award and there are plenty of reasons to celebrate. Yellow , is Savage's newest venture in Potts Point taking a more conventional approach to Australian bistro dining. Meanwhile, his flagship restaurant, molecular gastronomy haven of Bentley Restaurant & Bar has taken a more imaginative turn jettisoning into the Radisson Blu in Sydney's CBD. The restaurant scene has been quite tumultuous lately, to say the least with fresh names popping up every second day, abrupt closures and chef's hats flying left, right and centre . Only a year ago, I was reviewing an entirely different restaurant at this exact address (a pop-up mind you, but still). How bizarre! First thing's desserts. Talk about wow factor: an intergalactic sphere of chocolate, passionfruit curd & coconut marshmallow. A fantastic combination and the wafer thin dark chocolate was delicious. A note on the curd though, which was probably closer t

The food is rich, every dish is a gastronomic delicacy - it’s a very particular taste. We ordered the beef tartare, shaved radish, egg yolk & sherry vinegar, lamb tongue with witlof, pickled green raisins & puffed black rice, O’Connor sirloin with brown butter, roast baby cos & tarragon and the slow cooked ocean trout with young onions, fennel & almond – the Trout was by far my favorite.
A Food Fable
Yay, baked eggs! Their menu reads a bit more upmarket than the places in Surry Hills. There’s a different vibe to some of the cafes in Potts Point I feel in comparison to Surry Hills. In Potts Point, the cafes often look darker, more sleek and fitted out as a restaurant/wine bar at night. They also tend to be licensed venues.
The Hedonist Life
I had wanted to visit Yellow for a while after reading about their poached eggs in onion consommé, it’s run by the crew from Monopole and Bentley Restaurant Bar. I’ve been a couple of times now and the first time the service was ridiculously slow but the second time it was much better so I guess it evens out.

Baked Eggs with Chorizo & Spiced Yoghurt 17 Stuck for breakfast around Potts Point Wanting to overseas but can’t afford it? Yellow ticks both those boxes, in my opinion! Poached Eggs with Charred Onion Consomme, Mushrooms & Peas ($16) As soon as S and I entered Yellow , she turns to me and says, “This makes me feel like I’m not in Sydney anymore.” I’m not quite sure what it is about the place, the decor or the style of food, or perhaps the people at the adjacent tables – it’s not a very typical ‘Sydney’ cafe. But that’s a good thing in my books...
A Foodie's Joy
Yellow is located in an iconic and historical building in Potts Point. You can see the character of the building, not only at the exterior but also the interior. And I completely get why this placed is called Yellow! Don't you? :) The previous Yellow was a lovely cafe run by Lorraine Goldsmark who now runs Lorraine's Patisserie in Palings Lane in the CBD (part of the Establishment group). This new Yellow is a slightly different kettle of fish. It is after all the brainchild of Brent Savage and Nick Hildebrandt (from Bentley and Monopole). As such my expectations were quite high! We decided to come for brunch on a Saturday and was informed bookings were not necessary. And true enough we managed to get a table as soon we walked in but I did notice it started to get a tad busy around the 1.00 pm mark. We decided to share our dishes: Cured Bonito, Buttermilk, Celtuce and Pickled Cashew - a light and fresh dish. There were subtle flavours and left me with a clean palate. The bonito was beau

Brunch at Yellow in Potts Point is a last minute decision, after walking past during a city stroll. Yellow is a modern bistro, sister restaurant to Monopole and Bentley Restaurant and Bar. It's all about contemporary food served in a relaxed and informal setting. We nab one of the few seats outside and enjoy the sunshine.... We opt for something light for brunch and end up choosing the two vegetarian small dishes. Both dishes are impressive looking and quite flavoursome.

A Food Story
Our first insight to Yellow’s kitchen was a share plate of beef tendon crisps. Prawn cracker in appearance we all assumed they’d be nice to nibble on but what we didn’t expect was just how good they would be.

Yellow (57 Macleay Street, Potts Point, NSW) serves up an amazing dish of Lamb tongues with endive, pickled green raisins (fermented food!) and puffed black rice.......

Had a wonderful meal here. We all loved it. Liquorice desert is devine.

Just ate at Yellow on Boxing Day. Didn't know what to expect but we completely loved it. Had the five course tasting menu. Fresh bold and interesting flavours. Great service. Highlights were the beef tartare kohirabi, smoked curd and rye, as well as the coconut parfait, nectarine and mint. Highly recommended.

Attending staff and sommelier were fantastic, unfortunately the food was not to my personal taste, the scotch fillet married to fennel didn't work, the biggest let down was the blue eyed travella fillet which could be smelt coming in from the kitchen (smelt..not in a good way)dry and aged! Decore FANTASTIC, staff AMAZING,drinks great....food...tweak it up , with fresh produce(fish)...I didn't complain about the fish as I did not wish to make a scene, but I am now and here!

So rude. Good food. Extremely rude staff. Will not go back because of the service.

Father's Day Lunch - Fantastic. Brilliant, innovative menu!
Sublime flavours - slow cooked shoulder of lamb & mulloway for mains excellent. Stand out entrees - zucchini & black rice & pistachio plus the cured trout & avocado delicious! Liquorice bread very scrumptious and the strawberry icecream delicate and undeniably pretty.

Staff very polite and attentive - a very enjoyable dining experience - thank you! Highly recommend this top eating establishment

Poached eggs..mmm. The poached eggs were delicious. Was disappointed with the service, the water bumped my water into my lap when taking the menus off my friend. It was quickly cleaned up, but an apology would have been nice.

Really bad service. We went for breakfast on Sunday and were stood in the door for about 15 minutes. One waitress hurriedly told us the maitre de would come and help us shortly but no one ever did...she and other waiters kept walking past us, often asking us to move out of the way in a huffy tone as we were in the way of the till (the only space to stand). Another couple joined us in the line...but still we were all ignored and not told how long a wait it would be or acknowledged at all.
The staff behind the counter kept looking at us all (sometimes downright staring) and then ignoring us. It was very strange. A group of about 6 people then joined the line but again...no one came to tell us how long the wait would be or to say anything other than to please 'excuse them' so they could get past. There were a few empty tables in plain sight that just needed to be cleared and we could sit down. They really weren't that busy (probably because they weren't letting anyone sit down). We waited about 15 minutes all up and then left. I really have no problem waiting for a table if someone is polite enough to acknowledge we exist but to be completely ignored was ridiculous and really rude.
Nat Caristo
Unique breaky. A beautiful breakfast menu with some amazing combinations and flavours a step ahead of the rest. Shame about the rude attitude of the person greeting us at the door. Told us there was a 20 minute wait and when we said we were happy to wait we were made to feel like that was inconvenient. When we asked to have a coffee at the bar she advised there was a 20 minute wait for that too. Not letting that bother us we were please that the barista was more than happy to serve us at the bar. Best coffee I have had in a while. He thankfully was attentive and pleasant.

Fantastic in every respect. I don't usually write reviews of restaurants I love as I don't really want everybody else to know about them; however, having read a very negative review about Yellow I am compelled to put my opinion forth as I could not believe the content or the tone of that review. My husband and I had a wonderful evening at Yellow last Saturday (not our first visit nor our last!). Starting with cocktails at the bar and then through our meal, the food was impeccable (certainly nothing I could reproduce at home even though I consider myself a competent cook) and the service outstanding. I also have to say that the other people at the bar and the tables around us seemed to be having a wonderful night as well. I am not sure what entitles people who may have got out of bed on the wrong side to write such pompous and ridiculous reviews. Somehow they should be made to wear some kind of badge so they can be turned away at the door by people working in an industry so exposed to people's individual idiosyncrasies. C & J

Two of us went to Yellow for dinner on a Tuesday night. I had the slow cooked lamb shoulder with cawliflower three ways and my friend had the skirt steak. The lamb was juicy and tasty. It went really well with the creamy puréed and fried cawliflower. My friend enjoyed her main too. The side dish of broccolini with pepitas was disappointing though as the pepitas were almost burnt and the broccoli underseasoned. The restaurant manager that night was very knowledgeable and knew the menu extremely well. She gave us very accurate descriptions of the dishes on the menu. Unfortunately none of the desserts on the menu excited us (there should be some work on them) so we walked to Messina for the final treat.

Horrible. Horrid service, especially from manager David- we arrived at 7pm only to be served our entrees at 8.15pm. The food was over salted and unimaginative- that is- food I could easily cook at home. It was my birthday, and nothing special was planned or served, even though the staff were well aware of the occasion.
I mentioned my disappointment to the current manager- David, who as per expectation only excused rather argued, the lack of service and poor food as if by some reason was our fault for dining there.
Very disappointing experience, especially after trying to find a wonderful place to dine for a special occasion. Do NOT go if you desire a lovely dining experience- pretentious without anything to back up the obnoxious attitude!

Gold Plated - Sydney. 8-Mar-2014: If you haven't been to Yellow before you are in for a treat. Baby snapper for entrée. Fish was moist and sweet. Almond bread crunch was a nice touch and the tomato and red pepper sauce was delicate and beautifully balanced. Lamb rump for main course. Done medium and cooked to perfection! Dessert was finely sliced plum with plumb sorbet with liquorice cake. I take my hat off to whoever put this together. Service was exemplary. Could not fault it. I want this experience again!

Beautiful breakfast. Unique dishes that are executed with such style and panache - and they taste delicious. Will definitely be coming back!

Brilliant service, great team who know their menu and their wine. Exceptional cuisine. Recommend the steak tartare and the sirloin. Nectarine, licorice and white chocolate desert defies logic! Highly recommended!
