Review Chophouse Sydney - Sydney

I love the meat at this place. Highly recommended the Tomahawk and the Scotch fillet or Flat Iron. Side dishes are great too! I especially like the mushroom. They're juicy and full of flavour. Booking is essential because the place is always pack with people. The staff here are friendly and attentive. My special thanks to Fiona and Veli. You guys made my night even more enjoyable than it already had.

Came here a second time for my partners birthday. The waiter was extremely friendly and food was perfect to our liking. It came out quite quickly despite being a busy Friday night at 7pm. Definitely one of my favourite steak houses and will be returning.

My partner and I had an awesome experience at Chophouse! We had Bentley as our server and he was amazing - so friendly and he knew their menu and steaks really well. I wanted a sweeter cocktail, and Bentley was able to get one made for me that wasn’t on the menu! I ordered the wagyu rump cap and normally I get my steaks done medium rare, and Bentley mentioned that I can choose the chef’s recommendation on how the steak gets cooked so I went with that - it was amazing…. it was a melt-in-your-mouth steak. We had the mushrooms and potatoes as sides and they complemented the steak so well - super yummy. We met Fiona as well, the restaurant manager, and she was really friendly and made sure we had a great experience. Thanks for an awesome dinner before my flight back to Canada! Will definitely be recommending Chophouse for their amazing steak, food, and customer service!

Outstanding steaks and even better service. A short walk from Wynyard will take you to this steak specialty restaurant in the heart of Bligh Street. Come hungry as they do serve big portions. We were welcomed by the friendly staff to our table a bit early. The ambience was great even if coming just for drinks. Following a round of delicious cocktails, we were personally served by the Head Chef Scott Kim who took us through the menu. We ended ordering his suggestions with scallops, Wagyu bresaola, milk buns and grilled squid followed by the highlight: the steaks. We chose the Rib Eye on the Bone and the Wagyu special. Amazingly tender in a perfect medium rare sear with a complex crust. The crispy roast potatoes were also great and had some spicy kick to it. Chef Kim and our servers stopped by a few times to ask us how we were. Definitely felt looked after despite being slightly short staffed. We finished with the Apple crumble where they came with surprise sparklers which was a special touch to celebrate our friends birthday. This is a special occasion place but definitely worth a visit. Thank you Scottie!

Came back again for the first time this year and overall it was a great experience. The service from the staff was commendable despite being short staffed, Bentley, our server made sure we were well looked after while we were there that night. For starters we ordered the Chophouse steak tartare, cured with hens yolk which exceeded expectations. We were recommended the T-Bone and Rib on the Bone steaks, both which were cooked perfectly and good to share between a group of four. Our sides, Grilled mushrooms, roasted pumpkin and chips paired nicely with each and every bite. Thanks to Fiona and the team at Chophouse for having us. It won’t be long until we return again for the delicious food and genuine service.

Writing for our visit last month. Food was great and staffs were very friendly and helpful. It was very obvious that it is understaffed and they are running their very best to look after everyone. One disappointment was that the booking system asked if we are visiting for a special occasion and I putted in its for a birthday and the name of the person in the remarks. The staff at the front desk acknowledged it and wished my partner a happy birthday but that was it. We ordered some dessert at the end and hoping there would be a candle or something but unfortunately there was nothing. So I wasn’t quite sure whats the purpose of asking whats the occasion on the booking system. Otherwise everything else was great. Will be back.

This place is amazing and has become our favorite spot for a special dinner or occasion. Come in for our anniversary without a reservation, mid week for lunch. The staff was gracious and very accommodating and kindly found us a nice booth to spend our special lunch. We went all out and ordered the king of all steaks: * 2kg Tomahawk Steak (shared) * Roasted potatoes * Affogatto The restaurant is the perfect size, warmly decorated with rustic wood tones and lighting. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. And the menu has everything you could want from a high-end but not pretentious steak house. The prices are reflected in the quality of the dishes they offer. Will go again and again.

Atmosphere is buzzing, decor is inviting and grand. Menu is big enough, with a focus on meats. More information on the farms and qualities of the meats would have been appreciated ( is it fed organic, no antibiotics etc ). We may have come on a busy night but the service was pretty rude, one girl seemed very stressed and overworked and didnt answer questions. They didn't ask if we wanted sparkling or still and just gave us sparkling ( some guests dislike sparkling ). But the kicker was that one of our guests ordered a mocktail with alcohol added. We all affirmed it did not taste or smell of alcohol. When he returned it, the staff said that they were sure it had alcohol and would "replace it anyway". Then it came back, topped up and smelling of alcohol. We didn't blame them for forgetting an alteration but it was so shocking to be gaslit about whether the drink contained alcohol 🤣 Bill was 160 pp for 5 ppl ( about $800 ) and we had ordered pretty much everything on the menu. Food was okay ( for the pricing ) but the bread was quite dry and bland.

We have been here a few times now and we fell in love with this steakhouse. I love starting with a dry vodka martini, with their fabulous spicy pickled onion – it will set the tone for your meal! One time, we had our pre-dinner drink at the bar, and had a wonderful ‘Cheers’-like experience with our bartender. If a vodka martini is not your speed, there is an extensive cocktail list on offer. Or, you can go straight to the excellent wine menu, listing some beautiful reds that will complement your choice of choice meat perfectly. Although the highlight are the meats from the grill and broiler, there are many treasures among the entrées, such as the mind-blowing Jalapeno poppers (served sautéed in butter the night we tried it), delicious stuffed zucchini flowers, and the charcuterie plate. We are also partial to the delicious pork belly & sea scallop salad which pops with flavour. The Chophouse wagyu beef burger is delicious, and practically a bargain at 22.90, served with pickles, Monteray Jack cheese sauce, and crunchy shoestring fries. But the most memorable Chophouse meat experiences are the tomahawks! If you can have only one, go for the Angus Hereford Cross beef tomahawk. It serves up to four people comfortably, served with the crunchy shoestring fries, sautéed mushrooms, and three tasty sauces. The meat is pure ecstasy, with the fat cooked to absolute perfection. If you have enough people with you, or it’s just the two of you, the pork tomahawk served with crackling, apple fritters, crunchy shoestring fries, and sauces is delectable. The dessert menu is surprisingly strong for a steakhouse. The brûlée, flavoured with pineapple and lime when we last visited, was well-balanced and perfectly textured, and the blended Swiss chocolate chopping block with nutella and roasted hazelnuts was a delicious end to a fabulous meal. And I love a restaurant that does a good, classic affogato! The service is personable and professional, delivered with ease yet flawlessly.

Such a great meal and atmosphere was marred by bad service. It was my sons 18th birthday and I had requested a candle in his desert as we had to leave and had been waiting after our meal finished for over 30 minutes for service. They threw a box with a desert on the table as a take away. I explained that it was a special occasion but the waitress just shrugged and still didn't say anything. This was after I had paid over a $50 tip as I got the bill while we were waiting! We all left deflated feeling that this very special occasion wasn't acknowledged by a single person there. Such a shame as the food was great. We wont be going back because of this.

We decided to go to Chophouse after not being able to get into another restaurant last night... But don't let that upset you. New to Sydney and not knowing the city at all, we did a search on Zomato and were pleasantly surprised at the rating so decided to give you a go. Not disappointed at all!!! We were greeted and after a bit of an awkward yes we have a table, no we don't have a table we had a drink at the bar and not long after that seated at a table. Immediately we could see steak I would smash my face into one of them if we were still in caveman years. We decided to skip the entrees and get a salad to share! Get the Pork and scallop salad, it is the best salad you will ever have!!!! And then we had steak. Errmagheerrrd. I had the trenderloin, rib eye on the bone for my boyfriend. Side of beans and delicious potato mash. Delicious!!! Will be back. Bringing everyone. Oh and the waiter recommended a stellar bottle of red to top it off. 5⭐️s. The only negative was one of our waiters poured our red into my finished white wine glass. But the wine was so good I didn't give two hoots. Top work!

Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in the CBD area of Sydney. Chophouse is a short stroll south of the Circular Quay train station and has an excellent offering of dry-aged steaks and Wagyu beef. The indoor seating has a rustic antique style to it with several dry-aged cuts prominently on display. The outdoor seating area is quite nice on a cool afternoon and ideal for relaxing and people-watching.

Had the most amazing lunch for my girlfriends PHD graduation. We were welcomed at the door by Marc the manager and every care was taken with our meal. The meat was so amazingly cooked it was to die for and the drinks list was varied enough for the 5 of us that we all walked away beaming. Ryan who looked after our table was incredibly attentive and made sure everything was perfect. Will definitely be making this our go to destination for any celebration

We had fabulous service from the moment we arrived. Only had a main but the eye fillet was cooked to perfection and the bearnaise sauce was to die for. Especially with the crispy chips! Had a lovely glass of Chablis to accompany and we were spoilt with some honey comb chocolate to finish. We will 100% be back. If you like steak... this is the place to go!
Lisafoodadventures
Very lovely place for steak!

With steak cooked to perfection, you can expect an enticing experience with deliciously rendered fat and a smoky caramelised crust.
⁣
Do note that it does take approximately 45 minutes to prepare, so definitely get starters.⁣ The downside of a thick cut steak is that it can be just 'meat flavour' in the middle but good gravy can solve that issue.
⁣
A worthwhile mention are the sides that accompany this experience. It does not disappoint and taste as good as it looks in my photos!

nice food, enjoyed it

I went to the restaurant last Friday with my friend we chose $69 four course dinner + 1 dozen oysters. I love the ambience, cozy n friendly. We love the rib eye so juice and mix well with Negroni! The chophouse chocolate block whiskey super delicious. We just didn’t really like the salad n olive because they too bitter. We also like to give comment for the staff service, at the time the lady looks like not enjoying the job and even never smile to us! some foods arrive too long so that part they need to improve. I mean good foods is not enough, a restaurant also need friendly staffs.

For the great rating of the restaurant you could expect more. It was very average

I was told this restaurant was exceptional, so i took my clients out to this venue. The food quality was not good at all, especially for the prices they are charging. The Entree was appalling. The salt and pepper squid and the scallops were not restaurant quality. The batter on the salt and pepper squid had no salt and pepper texture and there was more batter than squid. The scallops were cooked with a spoon of olive oil and a pinch of oregano out of a packet from a supermarket, disgusting. the meat was fairly good. I would not dine there again. At around $220 per head i would have to say Nicks Seafood was a much better choice.

I came to Chophouse for my boyfriends birthday. We ordered the marbled wagyu striploin which was a special of the day and was not on the menu and costed $79 along with a side of mac n cheese.

The wagyu striploin was beautifully cooked and tender, and the fat was sweet and juicy. This was by far the best steak I have ever tasted, however I was disappointed in the price as it did not come with any sides and as shown in the photo, it was just the steak and the sauce on the dish with no efforts to make it look expensive. Because of this, I chose not to post any photos of the steak on social media as it did not look like it was worth my money.

Furthermore, we had only chosen to order the wagyu striploin as the waiter had suggested that it would be too much to eat for a lady but it would be enough for a man or to share between us. When the dish came out, I was very much underwhelmed and I knew for sure that I could eat all of that and still be hungry so I was disappointed in the waiters suggestion.

I took one or two bites of the mac n cheese and did not finish it as it tasted bland and very very floury. It tasted like when I bake cupcakes but accidentally add too much flour.

The wagyu rump was the recommended dish on Zomato. It was very juicy even without the sauce and was rich. Again, I was disappointed that it came with no efforts to decorate and also had a line of blood trickling down my plate.

I was charged for cakeage without my knowledge as I assumed an expensive restaurant would provide this as complimentary for their guests. Unfortunately, it cost $4 per person just to cut the cake for us, which we offered to do for ourselves but they told us they’d take our cake inside and do it for us. When I saw this in the menu I felt quite cheated as I did not ask them to cut it for me but they insisted, meaning they forced that cakeage price on me.

Overall, the food tasted well but did not look appealing. I have been to other cheaper and more casual steakhouses that put more effort to make their dishes look appealing and full. At Chophouse, we were served what looked like a shrivelled up piece of meat on a plate with a side of sauce and nothing else on the empty dish. The mac n cheese was very floury (I don’t recommend at all, just trust me) and the waiters gave me poor recommendations and forced a cake charge on me. Though the meat was of good quality, I will not be returning here and will prefer to spend my money elsewhere.

I had high expectations for this restaurant but was disappointment unfortunately.
The mains was served before the entrees which we waited 45minutes for.
The meat was expensive but not worth it in my opinion, ranged from $35 - $60. Sad to see the steak not served with anything else e.g. Chips or salad.
Would not recommend.

Really slooooooooow service and bad attitudes
:(

I booked the restaurant for my husband’s dinner . Definitely the best steakhouse we ever tried . I ordered the wagyu beef steak , small portion but it’s very filling as the meat quality is very intense , even it taste soft like the silk. My husband ordered the T- bone steak with the marrow. Both tastes fabulous, he always likes the medium rare , they just did in just right way . Be honest, not much restaurant can control the temperature that well . This is the place you must go . Highly recommend

We were initially a bit nervous when we saw the decor (as we were expecting more of a fine dining sort of vibe) but once the food came out we were super impressed. Lovely tender and marbled steak, great sides and great service. All in all a top night and highly recommended.

Overall the food are decent 🙈
Wagyu 8/10
Sirlion at the bone 6.5/10
Bernaise sauce 8/10 < me and friend like the sauce
Usually steakhouse in sydney the taste really bland but this one have a great tastes.

This place is definitely a must-try for anyone who enjoys a good steak!!!

Started it off with oysters and the calamari - the oysters were some of the best I’ve had in Sydney.

For mains, we ordered the Wagyu scotch fillet and Wagyu tenderloin served with broccolini, steak cut chips and potato mash.
The portion sizes for the steaks were very generous and cooked to perfection! The waiter recommended the chimichurri sauce to go with the scotch fillet and it was such a good pairing. The potato mash was so smooth and silky, the broccolini had a nice crunch to it and the steak cut chips were an absolute winner!

Finished the meal off with their apple crumble which, again, was so damn good!

The service was lovely! We were well looked after by the waiters. Will definitely be back!

真的好吃,tasting so good , I will go this restaurant again with my friends soon! It makes me understand the scent and taste about steaks, delicious, believe me!!!

My go-to place for the best steak in Sydney, easily deserved 5/5.

The cocktails were very refreshing, not overpowering, as they compliment the food very well. My highlight would be the melting blue cheese butter above the steak, as that taste will stay with you and remind you to come back every time you dig into a steak elsewhere

The service was a phenomenal 11/10, the waiter would go above and beyond to guide us through his recommendations as well as making sure that we have chosen the best options to our palette
Everything was awesome and cooked to perfection. Service was great - so attentive and remembered we were waiting for one more person, so we were to rushed to order at all.

Beef and lamb are so juicy, tender and full of flavors. We had the Black Angus Scotch fillet MB2+ and the double double lamb chops. Didn’t take pictures of the steaks as we were too busy eating. 😂 This will be my go-to steakhouse. Ericson Chow

This place consistently delivers great tasting steak and dishes! The waiters are knowledgeable (shoutout to Matthew and Bentley) and accommodating, as they bought ingredients just for us! The restaurant looks great, is perfect for a casual meal and is priced very well! Would highly recommend!
Tanya
The restaurant offers a very dimly lit and romantic ambience while offering a fancier version of your regular pub food. We ordered the tomahawk here and the peppered tuna entree. Although meat was very nicely cooked the sides didn’t really hit the mark. Bland and boring, I felt like I was eating just an overpriced steak. The peppered tuna was presented very nicely but lacked a good balance of flavours. I found it too peppery and not a pleasant entree.

Overall, the service was ok and food mediocre. Although the meat was well cooked everything else didn’t hit the mark. Probably wouldn’t come back here as there are plenty other steak places that can do better.

JB
Very impressive set up in a great heritage site. I was a little underwhelmed with the food. Service was excellent. It’s a high end steak place delivering pub level food.
Dawn
The staff had my sparkling water filled with still. She changed it but could be better. The staff weren’t friendly. The steak was amazing and will head back. I hope to see a smile the next time.

From the friendly, helpful and completely unpretentious service, warm and inviting atmosphere all the way up to the good food, my special occasion over a dinner for two at Chophouse was just wonderful. We ordered three of the steaks to see whether they truly live up to the hype as well as a few side dishes to go with it. I highly recommend the scotch fillet and wagyu rump cap - they both had a beautiful seared crust, a tender and juicy texture, and delicious beefy flavours. Definitely get the Cafe de Paris sauce with it! However I was extremely disappointed with my order of the chargrilled minute steak which was really tough and dry, and the steamed beans which tasted raw and bland. For dessert we got one of the signature Chophouse chocolate blocks. The prices are steep so this truly is somewhere I'd recommend for special event!
Greg
My favourite Steakhouse in Sydney, it's started with the classy fitout then is followed up with top shelf service. The complimentary sourdough is possibly the nicest bread I have eaten, a great selection of entrees that can be shared and the steaks are the best in Sydney.
Olivia Yang
The interior of the restaurant is dim and suits its name ‘Chophouse’ with its interior decorations and furnishings. We ordered the scotch fillet with chimichurri sauce and the rib on the bone with pepper sauce. The steaks were cooked perfectly to our preference and the fat melted in the mouth. However, I did not enjoy the chimichurri as its taste is overly grassy. We ordered the miso pumpkin and mash as sides and they were both tasty. Further, the lemonade tasted slightly watered down which was disappointing. Overall, a pleasant experience however.

We loved the striploin Wagyu MB5+ and the atmosphere!
It was my girlfriend's birthday and they surprised us with a complimentary chocolate honeycomb block for dessert!

Excellent steakhouse in the heart of Sydney CBD!

We visited recently for dinner in a group of 11 people and were seated upstairs, which has a lovely, warm atmosphere. Once seated we found service quite inattentive, particularly considering as a group of 10+ we were subject to a 10% service fee. After finally flagging down a waitress we put through our orders and she was very friendly and helpful.

To start, we shared:
- A dozen oysters kilpatrick; we only ordered these because they had run out of fresh! I'm not a big fan of this style of oyster at all as I think it takes away from the beautiful, natural taste of oysters. Tasted a bit like a meat lovers pizza...but perhaps those who enjoy this style will like it.
- Kingfish crudo with red vein sorrell, finger lime and puffed grain
- Tuna sashimi with Tasmanian wasabi, pickled ginger and soy; both sashimi dishes were fresh, light and delicious!
- Baked haloumi with wine soaked raisins, walnut and sherry vinegar; a favourite across the table, this haloumi is served in one piece in a little pan. The salty flavour contrasts very well with the sweet raisins - highly recommended!
- Duck liver pate with cognac jelly, cumquat and brioche; another delicious entree featuring silky smooth pate. The cumquats have a strong flavour so I'd recommend cutting a little bit off to pair with the pate.

For mains we shared two of the special dry aged tomahawk steaks. I'd highly recommend ordering a tomahawk to share with a group as this was exceptional value for money. We ordered 2 tomahawks at 1.7kg and 1.8kg each which equated to approximately $205 each. Cooked perfectly to medium rare with a delicious crust, this was a joy to eat!! Incredibly tender, melt-in-the-mouth meat which was divine with the green herby sauce.

Each tomahawk also came with three sides each. We chose the miso baked pumpkin, sauteed mushrooms and chips. All were great, although, I couldn't taste any miso with the pumpkin.

We also ordered a couple of different bottles of wine. I really enjoyed the 2016 Langmeil ‘The Blacksmith’ Cabernet Sauvignon. Again, service was a little lacking when it came to wine. When we ordered a different wine, someone was offered the first taste and before he had even had a sip it was put down on the table and the waitress left! Without waiting for a response or even pouring everyone else a glass :(

Definitely one of the better upmarket steakhouses I've tried in Sydney, however, service could be improved. I haven't marked down for service as the tomahawk was really excellent but this is definitely something to keep in mind!
Suburb Review
MELT IN YOUR MOUTH FULLBLOOD WAGYU. Fantastic steak on par with rockpool ... cannot decide which one is better as they are both good. All the entree's were satisfying... my fav the duck pate. Don't over order the entree's as you will be too full to enjoy the steaks. Mushrooms were a good side to the steak... only downside were the sauces...I say stick with a simple lemon or the horseradish and mustards. Love the interior but felt like the tables were too close to each other. Will be back without a doubt 👍

If you want a meat fest. This is the place. Well aged and succulent meat cooked to perfection. Try the Tomahawk, it’s well worth it, I’d recommend you share it with at least three! Go! You know you want to.

Service was great and staff were very attentive. We ordered the baked haloumi which was fantastic and great with the sourdough bread. We also ordered the dry aged beef and the caramelised short rib - while they both tasted good, the dry aged beef came out barely warm. The mac and cheese was a bit disappointing but the fries were great!
Janineaa
Ordered the char-grilled minute steak and the double double lamb chops. 👌🏼 good service! Perfect for a cosy date.

(Review needs to be at least 140 characters)

Food: quality of meat is really good and if you’re in a big group get the tomahawk to share it’s value for money. Most of the meat is nicely done according to your request.

Service: can be slow especially if you’re seated upstairs. Generally they’re friendly and nice. When our sides arrive a tad late the manager came to address the problem and make it great again. Thumbs up to that.

Price : price is reasonable comparison to other steak house.

Went for a meal with my parents last night. I thought it was a great place. The food was universally good. Service was very friendly and the fitout is to a very high standard. Some of the menu is clearly inspired by Rockpool Bar & Grill but this is 20% cheaper and of equal quality. Will definitely take clients there in the future.
Lily
Every now and then I would crave for a good piece of steak. Chophouse offers just that and at a very reasonable price to boot. Service was friendly and attentive, and the steak was cooked to perfection (my photography skills didn’t do it justice). Would recommend this place if you are a steak fan!
DINEWCD
Lovely ambience, staff was however not too attentive as we struggled to catch the attention of waiters and waitresses half the time.
We ordered entrees and the tomahawk steak to share, the steak was cooked medium rare however, a large portion of the steak were more rare. We then requested for it to be cooked further as it was rare - it then however arrived at our table well done which was very disappointing.
Overall experience was ok and quite average
Jessica Tran
The atmosphere was really nice and wait staff was exceptional. The steak was nice and tender, the steak cut chips were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. Would definitely go again.

Found Chophouse on Zomato rated top under the search key words steak, but the overall experience is not so satisfied. Waited more than 45 minutes for the steak to be served because medium well needs more cooking time…The steak served with sauce only, you probably need to order extra sides which could add extra costs to the meal though the chip was good, that makes the dinning experience a bit more expensive than other same level restaurants.
#Rib on the bone# not bad choice.
#Scotch filet# a bit too normal, and it is a very bad decision to go medium rare, the fat need more cooking time.
Overall I would give a rating of 3.
The Cheesy Charlatan
The Spot: modern, yet cosy interior

The Service: fabulous service - our waiter was prompt, professional, and accommodated to our large number. There were 14 of us, all arriving at slightly different times, which I can imagine is an abominable nuisance, but he soldiered on like a champ, serving us bread, starters and drinks until the last of us showed up. They close at 10, but kept the kitchen open for us to ponder laboriously over the dessert menu and finally make our order at ~10:15. It was my brother's birthday and one word to him got us a complimentary dessert and sparkler. Adorable.

The Food: We only shared the starters and sides and they all sounded humble on the page, but confident and divine on the plate. Honourable mentions go to the Baked Halloumi (amazing texture, flavour and addition of grapes was genius), the Crispy Potato Bites (holy cow) and the Champ Potato Mash. I was having a three-day bender with exorbitant dinners, so I opted for the Crisp Pork Belly and Sea Scallop Salad. I was prepared to bear the brunt of a raised brow because the waiter asked my cousin if she was vegetarian when she ordered the Caramelised Eggplant (which I tried and it was surprisingly hearty and caramelised by Jesus Christ), but he didn't bat an eyelash. Everything about the dish was coherent and well done. For dessert, I tried the Hazelnut Chocolate Tart (balanced, dark, with a superb chocolate base) and the Yoghurt Cheesecake (the texture was oh so creamy yet light and the flavours were bold - if you don't like the taste of alcohol in your desserts, you may not enjoy this as much).

Overall, a strong restaurant who clearly know what they're doing and do not feel the need to boast through a gratuitously decorative menu. They let the quality of their ingredients and preparation do the talking. The only minor thing was that sides were ordered separately to your meat, so in the end, the price tag was quite dear.

Chophouse was recommended by my Sydney friend and finally got a chance to try it.
We didn’t make reservation and lucky enough to get a table on Friday night (arrived around 6pm to secure seats).
The decoration of this place was quite interesting with a bar for drinks and mix of leather, wood, cow skeleton elements. I guess the wooden roof decoration was mimicking the rib cage of cow.
The service was very friendly and helpful. They had this meat board displaying different cut/types of steak you could order, explain the difference and make recommendations according your needs.

#tuna tartare#-with crunchy rice crisp, soy and pickled oyster. It was a clean, light dish to have as a starter. Diced tuna was fresh, firm and had the saltiness from soy sauce dressing. I loved the idea of picked oyster, since it deepened the flavours of oyster; make the oyster even more creamy; added sweatiness and acidity. Recommend!
#dry-aged Wagyu rump#-David Blackmore MB9+
#wagyu scotch fillet#-from QLD,MB5+
Both steak was cooked medium, not medium rare, to reduce the extra fat from the steak. They turned out beautifully, keeping the rich&fulfilling sensation yet wouldn’t feel too fatty. Also recommend having lighter sauce such as red wine and pepper sauce to go with these steaks, horseradish was also great to help ease the greasiness. Every bite was very enjoyable, if you are a steak lover, you can’t miss chophouse for its high quality steaks.
#sides-mushroom+mashed potato#-nice sides to have with the steak, especially the mashed potato! So creamy and delightful, maybe use chives would be even better...
#chocolate tart#-chocolate base shortbread base with chocolate filling and sour cream. The base was ok, the filling was quite dense and heavy. Overall, the dessert was not bad, not too great.
It the dessert part was great too, I would definitely gave the 5 score for Chophouse!

The atmosphere is so good! The upstairs is dark and cozy. Beside the service here is awesome!

I forget what I had that day, my boss ordered for me, but it is really nice. The steak is tender and the favour is rich. The desert at end is lovely too.

When the desert came to my mind, I still remember the lovely yogurt cheese tart and the chocolate bar. The chocolate bar is good for sharing.

Overall, it is a lovely night.

Came here for my anniversary dinner. My husband wanted steak, so selected this place based on its insane rating. Loved the ambience and the staff were really friendly and supportive. Tried the wagyu. It was juicy and tasted good. But it was not out of this world. This place is worth trying though for steak lovers.

Had the normal fillet, best ever eaten... this must be the place to be for meat in Sydney.. Sides are given attention as well, not just sautéed kale, but sautéed kale with apple union and nuts... Friendly attentive staff... High end prices, but then... high end steak !

A favorite of mine when I'm in the mood for meat. I love how accommodating the kitchen is on portion size and mixing your selection. Great wine list by the glass and a good ambience whether alone or with friends.

It's no surprise that Chophouse is all about the meat. Fire, steak and wine in style. Sat on red banquets and dark brown bistros chairs in gorgeous industrial space. The service incredible and the Wagyu rump left a smile on my face. It was delicious and perfect.
Flying Ashe
Meat is perfect grilled there! Strong recommend the Wagyu! But service is a bit lack. No background music so you can hear your next table's topic...Asian style noodle salad is very average...
Jamin65
Yeah pretty good - great service, good atmosphere, good food - but just lacks that next level - wines aren't quite there and the selection of "chop" was only ok on variety. Very Sydney when it comes to food.

A reputable steak house in CBD, a great place for steak lovers, make sure check out the wagyu. Lovely experience with a retro decoration, suitable for dating and anniversary.

I absolutely loved this place! The steak was impeccable and cooked to perfection. The sides were also incredibly tasty.

The service was really friendly and was really the cherry atop an amazing dining experience.

If you feel like steak, make sure you come here!

Lovely venue, our waitress was really efficient and friendly. Had the oysters, scotch fillet and eye on the bone as medium rare with mashed potato and beans. Definitely really nice steaks, would recommend this place for steak lovers! Book ahead to secure a table.

Steak was cooked to perfection, mash was amazing and sautéed mushrooms were mout watering. Sat and pepper calamaris are have the perfect crunch. Kingfish sashimi was super fresh. Would definitely come back! Ambience and customer service, wow!

Chophouse was actually my fall back solution to another steak house initially, but the experience was amazing. They have a wide selection of wine and we certainly enjoyed the bottle of Barossa Valley Red we ordered. We started with Oyesters and Tuna Tataki, which were very fresh and tasty. The Wagyu Striploin and Scotch Fillet were among the best steaks i have had. The meat was fresh and cooked perfectly. The beef short ribs was tender and juicy but could be better with less BBQ sauce. The T-bone was relatively average and side dishes were just ok. I would definitely visit again.

I went to Chophouse with my friend last night and the service was very disappointing and ruined the experience.

My friend was Gluten Free we were told someone would come explain the menu, this never happened, we had to ask for water, ask to order, ask to order wine from a waiter who was running past, we were unclear if the waiter took our order for starter or wine and had to ask about that as well.

When we asked the waiter for something he seemed to go off for 15 mins to do something else and then assist us. Was offered bread to which he ignored and went to another table and then he realised he didn't give it to me when the start came. A very poor experience, also we ordered WAY too many sides, for a restaurant of this quality I would have expected the waiter to explain this to us.

The lack of service and took away from the whole experience as we were constantly wondering what was happening trying to get a waiters attention when we were running past. He seemed disinterested in serving us which was insulting.

On a positive note the highlight was the haloumi starter it was amazing we thoroughly enjoyed it. However, service ruined the experience we felt completely ignored, for this reason I will not return which is a shame as I had really expected so much more.

Our 2nd time at Chophouse. Treated my husband dinner for his 40th. Exceptional food. We ordered the tomahawk for 3 people with sides of potato purée, Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. We finished with the chocolate block and sticky date semi freedom. The best thing about Chophouse is their fantastic service, warm and genuine and special thanks goes out to one of the staff, Monique for making our night great. Thank you.

Went here for my birthday with my family there was 6 of us, service was absolutely top knotch. Food was great also would definitely be returning to get the tomahawk

It is refreshing that the Chophouse serves up something more akin to the New York steakhouses. The decor and environment lived up to the modern steakhouse look. The exposed brick, wood panels and use of glass gave a chic industrial feel to the environment. The wine display case was most impressive...

Please read the full post on the link below

Share the Tomahawk, the Pork and a nice red with friends! Good vibe, restaurant is interestingly primal yet sophisticated, attentive staff with good service. Sensational experience!

ITS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!!!!!
Honestly one of the best meals I've had in a while and I am a picky eater.
It is my first time in Sydney and just randomly picked this restaurant and totally caught me by surprise.
Beautiful environment that is not pretentious, Excellent, tentative and friendly service, we ordered oyster, wagyu rump steak and fillet with side salad, a bottle of red wine, chocolate block for dessert, every single bite was perfect I wanted to lick my plate clean.
I would highly recommend it for anyone and everyone to come try it out, you will not regret it I promise!
Must Be Hungry
Last night I decided to head towards the well reputed Chophouse which is located in the heart of the CBD.😊

When I arrived, I was pleased to hear from their host that I didn't have to wait and that there was a table for me🙌.

Once seated I had the incredible pleasure to be who it must be one of the most expectional wait staff I have ever come across in years of dinining: Matt 👋Matt looked after me throughout all the service and he was not only impeccable but also very humble, polite and him and I had great conversation. A legend 👊

The order:
Dry Aged Delmonico MB2+, Riverine District, NSW on top of a Potato Puree, Apple&Fennel Salad accompanied by a Stone & Wood Pacific Ale 🍺

The food came out and every bite was a OMG moment, that meat was definitely worth $55.50, and to be honest I would pay even more to eat that again, over and over. Delicious 😍 The sides were also very nice but that broiler and the chef behind it just made me fall in love with this place. ❤

Thank you for an unforgettable dining experience 🙏

Fabulous foods. The best wagyu I've tried in Sydney. Very friendly staff helped us to store our flowers and chocolates in the fridge. Very considerate. Would love to go again.

I was rather full so I tried the sides and desserts. The lime brûlée was alright and the potato purée was worthy of a try. Good service overall.

Quite a nice steakhouse!
Awesome atmosphere, decoration, and dining environment.
Steaks were nice, but the crispy pork belly and scallop salad was outstanding!!!!
Didn't get the chance to try the choclate block tho, too full.
Overal, a very nice place for dating lol!

Wow guys the food was amazing the service was very attentive and the wine kept flowing. This place is a must do again when we are next free. Loved the menu and the finish to a great meal was beautiful

Great food, wine and atmosphere.

I ate the Trout for mains with salad, fried and peas for sides. The fish was cooked very well with crispy skin.

Had chocolate mousse cake for desert. It was light and really high quality.

We had Pinot Noir wine with the food which was great.

I highly recommend this place.

Please excuse the pun for a title but it was just too apt. The chophouse is situated on Bligh St in the City, down towards Circular Quay. This carniverous dream is surrounded by some pretty serious competition, but holds its own offering excellent service and quality meal choices. This is an upmarket grill is set up in a building that once housed a cinema, it is a large space that would suit any occasion. The interior is layered with nicely set tables, a stylish bar and decorated with butchery antiques such as scales, chopping blocks etc.

Dining at chophouse is an experience to treat yourself to. The atmosphere is created as soon as you walk in. A lot of polished wood, plush leather booths and spacious tables deck out the two levels of Chophouse. We slid into a booth and then started with a cocktail each. Their twist on the negroni was full flavoured and delicious. The pineapple coconut sour was refreshing and not too sweet.

For meals we let the house decide as we were having trouble choosing - and we are glad we did. We split an entree of oysters dressed three ways. This was coupled with figs filled with prosciutto, goats curd and balsamic dressing with a sprinkle of almonds. Both of these dishes were light - flavoured well and a great start to the night. The figs were a special and not found on the usual menu, however, ask the friendly staff about what is on offer when you dine.

For mains we had a meat board. You honestly can not go to a place called Chophouse and not order some of the great meats they have on offer. We tried the double double lamb chops - 2 x the chops with a traditional mint jelly. The meat was succulent and the mint jelly was a perfect consistency. On the other side of the board was the pasture feed tenderloin. This was grilled perfectly and was a nice juicy pink on the inside. The cafe de paris sauce and the jus matched these meats to a tee. The sides of green peas and ricotta and the potato purée were standouts in their own right. The pea and ricotta salad with crispy kale was a nice texture change from the meat of the board and the ricotta was delicious. The potato purée is a favourite for the staff here and I can see why - buttery, full flavoured and a perfect pair to the meat on the board. There were so many options to choose from on this menu that you are sure to find something that will suit your tastes.

Dessert was spectacular. We tried the chophouse chocolate bar. Lindt chocolate melted down and infused with both hazelnut and Nutella makes for one of the creamiest and most mouth watering chocolate bars of my life. The sea salt shavings on top just enhances that hazelnut flavour. This is a must! A must! We also devoured the popcorn brittle semifreddo with salted caramel - cool, fluffy and flavours that will leave you even more satisfied than you felt after the mains.

Chophouse has an amazing staff and Robyn the manager will make sure that your visit is one to remember and repeat. They are knowledgable and passionate about their product and well worth their suggestions. If you are thinking this might be the perfect place for an event you can book out the upstairs room which holds 30-40 people and would make for a special atmosphere. I also have it on good authority that if it's your birthday you get a free dessert!

Feels rather like a gentlemans' club, and the patrons when I was there were almost exclusively gentlemen. The steak was ok. The chopped salad was just a salad

I think this is a great place to have a party and chow down on some pretty good steak! If you're with a group of 4 or more, I recommend the beef tomahawk. It takes them a bit of time to prepare but its worth the wait. It's a huge rib thats grilled to your liking and sliced up to share (we ordered medium rare) and it comes with a couple of sides. The steak tasted great and was cooked to the doneness requested.

Hopefully though, you're with a group that wants it done the same way when you're there! My only criticism is that the meat was quite fatty at some spots and the fat was not rendered down - i.e. It was not grilled enough for it to be edible. Maybe this was because we ordered medium rare or that our cut of meat was a little fattier than others. I'm not sure.

I would still recommend this place though, despite not being fully impressed. Definitely warrants a second visit.

Strangely my favorite dishes is their salads here. They are a huge serving and really really delicious!
The wine collection here is great too.

For a special occasion, I took my partner here for dinner. I made a booking online and was greeted by one the staff members who lead us to our table. It was quite dimly lit especially the upstairs seating which was where we were seated.

We ordered the 800g T-bone steak served with red wine jus and also included a side of 'Apple and Fennel salad'. We had the option to swap the salad for any of the sides on the menu. In total that was $99 and it was on the special menu . I just wanted to say, it was definitely one of the best steaks I've ever had! It was so juicy and tender, so well made that made us want to order more. The meat just melts in your mouth bursting with flavour.

For drinks, we ordered the 'Hetty Wainthropp' ($10) and a glass of shiraz ($15). The Hetty was okay, a little diluted but I liked it. My partner enjoyed the shiraz and said it complimented the steak well.

Overall, it was a incredible experience at Chophouse and the service was brilliant. The waitress who served us was really helpful and gave us great advice of what to order. I will definitely be back to try more things on the menu!

Einstein famously said that while logic will get you from A to B, imagination will take you everywhere. This goes for the Chophouse, where everything logical that can go together will, but imagination is what is the place needs. It bills itself as a "contemporary Australian grill", and while it's Australian, and it's definitely a grill, it is not contemporary. To start with we ordered a basket of prawns, some zucchini flowers (18.9) and beef jerky (9). The zucchini flowers came stuffed with ricotta, battered and fried, just as they had done when this dish impressed people in the 90's. The prawns also came battered and fried. I have to say it bothers me when the chef is wheeling out fried food for the entrees. It suggests that they want to serve a lot of people really quickly, and looking around I realised what a cavernous space this is - they must have 100 covers in here. Main was a pasture fed tenderloin (45), that came with the logical addition of mashed potato and jus. It was flavoursome, but not as soft as I was hoping for. Perhaps my fault for ordering it medium - go for medium rare. There was the logical sides of green beans (10) and shoestring fries (9). Unfortunately for these guys I had recently visited the temple of meat known as Rockpool Bar + Grill across the road, and to me there was a clear winner. Perhaps if the Chophouse do something not so logical with their menu, I'll be back.
The Girl With Blue Hair
Came here for Christmas celebration on Christmas Eve and the food was amazing! We had the Zucchini Flowers, Wagyu Minute Steak, Wagyu Rump, Green Apple and Fennel Salad and Shoestring Fries. I'm not a big eater so the Wagyu Minute Steak was perfect for me. My partner has the Rump and absolutely loved it! Food is delicious, drinks are good and great service.

I had my birthday here and I had a fantastic time. The waiters and waitresses are very efficient and professional. We had the ocean trout tartare for entree and matched it with a Sauvignon Blanc. It was just divine. We then had the tenderloin and scotch fillet steak again with matched wines our waiter recommended. The scotch fillet (daily special) was much fattier than the tenderloin. Not better or worse, just depends on what you like. My partner organized a small birthday cake with the waiter. It was a surprise and I was a bit embarrassed... Anyway, nice chocolate mud cake as a finish to our meal. Would recommend for a special occasion as it is not cheap.

I must have been here at least ten times. If that doesn't speak volumes for the quality i don't know what does. The atmosphere is classy without being pretentious, the food is simple without being boring, the drinks are unique and aren't over-priced. I keep trying all of the fantastic different restaurants around Sydney, and Chophouse is the one i keep going back too.

Great Friday night dinner place with friends. Turned up at 6ish to try our luck and someone was just cancelling their booking. My group of 4 ordered the tomahawk. It was delicious! Beautifully cooked considering the large cut. Had nice char to outside but tender and super juicy inside. There was a nice amount of fat on the meat for those of us who enjoy it but also lean slices for those who don't. The meat came with 3 varying sauces and 2 types of mustard which once again catered for the various tastes of those in the group. All the side dishes that came with the tomahawk was nice but glad we ordered additional sweet potato fries as there wasn't enough. Ordered popcorn semi freddo to share and it was delicious. Lots of flavour and nice texture but glad we shared as I think it would be too sweet for one person to finish. Service was friendly and efficient. Our wine glasses were always topped up.

You can't go wrong with this place, I had the minute wagyu and it melts in your mouth! The ambience is nice and you'll be amazed by the cuts of meat they have :) deeeelisssshyousho!

Was there on a Friday night with the boys. Live music was just right. Remember eating enough to just sit for an hour after dinner chucking back drinks. Rarely ever happens these days, cant wait to leave most times and the staff i must add also didnt ask if we were done they just kept bringing the drinks around... great night out with the boys. Thank you chophouse keep up the great work!

Dined here last night and absolutely loved it. We actually planned to go somewhere else, but were told it would be a 4 hour wait for a table for two. Who does that!? Anyway, Chophouse seated us after one drink at the bar. I wasn't expecting this, but I can honestly say I had THE most glorious salad of my life. It was a crispy pork and scallop salad with wombok, coriander, sesame seeds and some other tasty stuff. It was exactly the flavours that I felt like. It was also huge. My partner and I shared it as an entree and had to stop eating it to leave room for the delicious steaks. And they were delicious. Juicy, and cooked to perfection. Simple and tasty sides were enough to make this visit very memorable. When the bill came we were pleasantly surprised too. Excellent experience.

We've been twice! The first time was incredible, the food, service and atmosphere. We got 2 starters scallops (which were in special) and zucchini flowers! We got the grass fed steak and tenderloin. They melted in your melt! Desserts were amazing - popcorn brittle & Swiss chocolate block with a side salad. The second time sadly wasn't as good, both the food and service! Steak was overcooked and the chocolate bar was melting everywhere. Definitely recommend going though and giving this place a try!

Chophouse, one of my favourite restaurant in Sydney, the venue is nice and always has good ambience, the staffs are always helpful and price wise it is affordable. You have to try the pork scallop salad, love it and normal pick will be wagyu rump or if you like lamb then the double lamb chop, it is the best 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Came to Sydney for travelling, Found the Chophouse using this app. The foods are nice, I've ordered the Rib on the Bone Medium rare, it was done nicely and juicy in the middle. However the service was questionable, and it's the main reason I wrote up this review. The waitress that served us had an aggressive attitude towards us when we start our order, knowing we didn't do anything wrong I find it very hard to believe and it was after we complain to another waitress that the attitude of the first waitress start to change but the damage was done. The food really improved my rating on this restaurant.@

The food here was excellent. Came here with a couple of mates. We wanted to get the tomahawk $195 for 4 people to share but they apparently ran out. Our waiter recommended us to get a t-bone to share and also extra mains to accommodate ourselves. Our plates came out but our food wasn't. Our waiter came and apologised to us and our food came immediately after. He apologised for our long wait and complimented us with free chocolate. Definitely a thumbs up for great service and highly recommend anyone who loves their steak. :)

Together with my partner and his friends, we dined here a while ago so my memory is a little duzzy but I do recall the interior had a pleasant ambience. When it gradually became busier, we could manage to have a conversation without the need to yell (always a plus).

Food was decent. The boys loved the meat and raved on about it. My lamb was a little tough with the grissle but was decent. Unfortunately can't remember any more than that as it did not wow me but for the meat lovers, I'm sure this place is for you :)

Parking in the city can always be stressful so I'd recommend to prepare for parking farther away or simply take public transportation (or Uber it).

[Re-edit]. Returned for Valentine's Day. Booked online directly through their website and placed in the comments that we are lactose intolerant so whether an adjusted version would be available. No response. I left it as busy weeks occur. On the day, as we were running late due to city peak traffic, there were a few problems trying to find the booking but Robin was very pleasant over the phone and reassured us that a 10min delay was fine. My understanding was there's a 2 hour slot per reservation due to the high volume of reservations. Upon being seated at our own table for 2, I immediately noticed the tables were closer together and conversations next to us were clearly unavoidable to overhear.
A waitress first asked whether we were in a rush to which I responded, "rush to where? Our reservation holds a two hour time slot" To which she became very confused with causing me confusion in their system. Not sure what happened there but further conversation just continued broken, not sure if it was her English or my use of words but being a premium dining, thorough training the ability to reconfirm in customer communication and staff knowledge updates is critical as this little stir was avoidable and unnecessary.
Nevertheless their aged steaks remain fantastic and tender. Unfortunate the portions remain small as you want more! The tataki dish was also fantastic to taste. Don't think I'll return again though the tender meats were well worth the experience :)

Visited this place based on steakhouse search on zomato and was craving a delicious piece of steak and thats what I got. Was in a hurry had the minute steak which was splendid. The Jus was delicious and the meat was perfectly cooked to order. We also had the mashed potatoes which was really the perfect traditional mashed potatoes. Service was a bit slow but staff were friendly. Definitely recommend a visit.

Took boyfriend here on his birthday. He got the 55 dollars steak which was the second most expensive steak on the menu, and it was juicy and tender but not consistent throughout for a medium rare. I got the pasture fed tenderloin and was small but im a small eater so it came out just right. I preferred my tenderloin to my bfs steak. Overall the steaks were good if you dont mind the pricing. The wedge salad we ordered was horrible. Looked like they just chopped a quarter cabbage (without sepArating) and chuck some sauce on it. Looks like no effort was put into plating the dish and it didnt taste that nice. The chips were good. For dessert, creme brulee was too sour with the rhubarb and i prefer the classic. The meringue cheesecake was soso.

Business dinner tonight at The Chophouse. The service was slow as we were early for our reservation. So off to the bar for a couple of pints!

It is a cosy place. We ordered the t-bone minute steak. It's totally fab. Done at the right medium, full of flavour with the juices (did not need the BBQ sauce I ordered).

2 pints, 2 T-bones, shoestring fries, beans, half a dozen oysters, a Malbec, a Shiraz, a long black and a cappuccino sets you back $175+.

If you are looking for quick service, try Maccas. If you are a vegan, try somewhere else. The chophouse (as the name suggests) is a wholesome meaty affair. One of the better steakhouses in Sydney.

Wish I could eat here everyday, but sadly neither my wallet nor my coronary arteries will allow me. Good food.

I'm going to be critical with this review given we've spent well over $500 for 4 people, so you'll need to bear with me.The Chophouse offers 2 seating arrangements, a casual outside/veranda-type seating, and an indoor more classy dine-in. Don't bother sitting outside if you wish to have a quite conversation, the frequent bus route across the road eventually becomes uncomfortable, plus there was excavation work nearby which didn't help. On the other hand, the indoor seating whilst cosy, was a little too dim for my liking and the seating arrangement is somewhat crowded. On to the food, for the entrée, I had the Sydney Rock Oysters and Flash Fried Prawn & Calamari. The Oysters were fresh and void of the pungent "sea taste", the other dish was fairly standard. As for the main, I went for the top Wagyu Scotch Fillet with an MBS of 5+ and general selection of sides. The fillet was rich in flavour as you'd expect from a top cut. It was slightly over-cooked for my 'medium rare' liking, but perhaps I'm picky and wanted something between rare and medium rare. I also didn't expect to get a small piece of tendon or chewy membrane in this cut, however the overall steak was superb which was further contemplated with a very nice jus. Moving onto the dessert, this is what lifted the ratings here too. The Vanilla bean Crème Brulee was extraordinary, all the way from the cracking of the glazed coat to the soft inner vanilla bean, it was divine. Given the dessert left a really good impression, I decided to go for 2nds and try the Popcorn Semifreddo, again this was another masterpiece of divine dessert which was well prepared and bursting with flavour. I finally finished off with my signature macchiato request, the coffee was a let down as it was lacking a full body flavour and the cup was smudged with dishwasher streaks.Overall a good experience, however we could have done better with a more attentive staff member that had to be reminded for various requests.

Inviting surroundings that is ideal for a swanky group gathering.

The grilled minute steak with potato puree is rich and decadent. Definitely my go-to dish here. The scotch egg is always a favourite as well.

This steakhouse is on the the more pricey side, but its nice if you want a steak meal in a more classier environment.
The atmosphere and service was impeccable.
