Celebrated a special milestone here with the "sora" tasting menu. Loved the cosy but classy interiors mixed in with a casual crowd. Food was delicious with my highlights being the kangaroo tartare, fresh sushi and sashimi, grilled salmon. Even though the food was of great quality, it still leaned to the more expensive side for this experience
Super excited to try this place! The salmon tartare was one of my faves. I love salmon and I love crisps too so this worked well for me. Spicy seared cucumber and avocado just melts in your mouth. Vegetable tempura was great, the batter wasn’t too thick, paired it with the dipping sauce and it was perfect. Me and my partner love Gyoza, we always have to have it with ramen haha. The gyoza here had a crispy base and the meat was juicy! The scotch fillet steak with wafu sauce and garlic chips tastes as yummy as it sounds. Would come back :)
What a lovely experience we had here. Very friendly and attentive staff. The food is fresh, delicate and refreshing. The oysters, sashimi and sushi were all super fresh and delicious.
Actual rating: 3.5/5
We got the “sora” set menu for 2.
Highlights were:
-oysters (probably the best oysters I’ve had in Sydney)
-sashimi (you cant go wrong with sashimi)
-palate cleanser sorbet (very fresh sweet flavour)
I found the steak to be average and the zucchini overwhelming. The dessert was interesting.
We left the place feeling very very full
Also, to note: water costs $11
Food tasted great flavour wise, but everything was extremely salty. We ordered mostly protein dishes and everything was cooked beautifully. The wagyu gyoza was a standout.
Only complaint is that despite having a booking, we were seated next to the entry on very low stools with very low tables squashed next to other diners. The strange layout meant we weren’t even facing each other and were instead facing other diners. It was an extremely awkward seating arrangement and would have to bend over everytime to reach our plates. so we asked to move to the bar which was a tad more comfortable.
The king fish was delicious! The bay bug which is a highly recommended dish was so fresh and sweet!
I went to Toko on a fri night with a ‘new friend’ , we were so well served by a guy we called ‘Lachlan’ but I think his real name was Charlie . He was so helpful and attentive and made super strong tasty drinks for us . My friend even saw her Pilates instructor there having a very good time
I had my birthday dinner there on a Friday night. Booked a table for 6 at 8pm
But when we arrived there, the table was not ready so we waited a little bit until the people finished their drinks. This was the only negative thing.
The sashimi, the prawn tempura, the lamb cutlet, and the wagyu beef were all killing us. How come they know how to make this mouthwatering food. Like you’re in heaven! I was a bit nervous in the beginning when I saw everybody’s face after they saw the price. But I saw their face after they tried the food, I knew it was worthy of picking this venue!
I was craving a simple but delicious Japanese meal and there couldn’t have been a better place for this than Toko! Started off with the staple edamame, and I was a slave to that godly spicy sauce around it! The kingfish was fresh and light, the seared waygu beef was melt in the mouth, the pork belly was tender and succulent, the robata grilled prawn was soft and juicy and that chopped scallop nigiri drove me crazy! Of course the best part of the meal was the rhubarb and macadamia crumble with the apple sorbet! I am a fan!!
Amazing food! This is definitely the best Japanese restaurant I've been to so far. Loved everything of it. The atmosphere, the food... I felt a bit pity that we didn't go for the set menu option as I believe we could try more varieties that way. The sushi was wonderful! I'm not really a big fan of sushi, I used to think sushi was all the same and lack of techniques, but was impressed by the taste and freshness of their sushi. Sashimi was also very fresh, and I'd definitely recommend their salmon tartare, trust me you don't want to miss it! I would love to go back again for occasions :)
The Tsuchi Tasting menu was decent for its price and we opted for the $5 fondant dessert upgrade aswell for one person. All the dishes were well proportioned with the highlights being the beef tataki and the seared scallop which was cooked to perfection. The lamb chops were also very soft and succulent however they were abit on the fatty side. The chocolate mousse dessert was a bit of a let down as there wasn’t much of a Japanese aspect to it. All in all a pleasant dining experience.
The food was very nice, lovely service too. The waitress also recommended a lovely saké. The kingfish was a bit fishy but everything else was good.
Nothings wrong. But nothing special. For this price range I will go to sokyo instead. Service is superb. The dessert with the whisky foam is the highlight of the dinner.

One of my favourites for Japanese food. Delicious delicious delicious!!! I’ve had so much from the menu and never been disappointed. If you’re a fan of Sokyo and Sake this place is on that level
Beautiful restaurant in inner Sydney. The ambiance is romantic, easy, simple but classy. Everything that we ordered were delicious! Would love to come back again and try different dishes.
Went out on Monday night with girlfriends as part of our trying-out-new-restaurant day. Loving everything about this restaurant. The ambience is v nice (not too loud hence we still can have our talk), the waitress is v attentive too :) The food mostly are wonderful. The scampi sushi is execeptional as well as the crispy rice tuna sushi. The tartare is decent. Unagi & scallop sushi are just fine. Miso cod is good but I’ve tasted somewhere else better. Price is a bit unexpected. Will come back if someone asked me to :)
Mmmm... what yummy modern Japanese food. Delicious and well prepared. We ordered a stack of different options and each dish was filled with flavour. Favourites were the pork ribs, nasu dengaku, yakitori and all the sushi rolls. They were all delectable and had such amazing flavours. Highly recommend coming to this place!
Amazing food but very small serving sizes! We ordered the following:
- kingfish ceviche 5/5 so fresh and beautiful
- tuna nigiri 5/5 probably the best I've had!
- salmon nigiri 5/5
- Moreton bay bug sushi 4/5 I don't think it showcased the flavour of the bug enough
- tuna sushi 5/5 this was my favourite sushi
- prawn tempura 4.5/5 tasty sauce and large prawns
The food is all incredible but I left here feeling hungry! Prepare to really splash out, we spent $75 each with no alcohol or drinks and were still hungry after
For anyone that is a fan of amazing Japanese food and stunning service, this is the restaurant for you!
I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and appreciated how beautiful the restaurant was. The wine menu was fantastic and it is certainly the best Japanese food I’ve ever had.
Toko is a nice Japanese restaurant situated in Surry Hills. It offers izakaya styled dining experience. They serve delicious food and has nice selection of sake. It was an enjoyable dining experience.
A beautiful place that sells so many different kinds of foods it's mind boggling. The customer service is absolutely amazing and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is great. I highly recommend booking in advance if possible as for dinner it gets very crowded, very fast. I do however think the prices are a bit steep compared to the portion size but that's true of most fine dining places.
The Food:
Chefs Sushi (7pc) - Small but delicious, they have a special sauce on the seafood and strong vinegar taste in rice, just perfect!
Toko Signature Sushi - Must try! You will never taste it in any other place. Combination of Eel, Scallop and Wagyu beef
Ebi Prawn Tempura - The tempura is very crunchy, Perfect with the tempura sauce
Miso Eggplant - Savory, melts in your mouth, tender flesh.
Dessert: I would say out of all the dessert there the Chocolate fondue is the best
Watermelon Martini - best cocktail I’ve ever had
Environment:
It can be a little loud, and must book in advance during weekends.
Cost: 250 per 2 people
Food wasn’t too bad.enjoyed the salmon tartare, crab roll, and pork belly. Beef tatami was ok... Sushi was average sushi.. BUT aestheticly pleasing restaurant. Some quality in the decor and set up.
Really wanted to eat Japanese for lunch and this place caught our attention. The decor and atmosphere of this place is spot on. The open kitchen is great if you want to watch the sushi chefs in action, plating and cutting up your sashimi.
First up, we ordered the gyuniku no tataki - seared beef, pickled onions, mizuna and garlic chips. Tataki is usually a hit or miss for me. This one was a miss. The beef was tough. The flavours/sauce was memorable or didn’t one up the dish in any way. Wasn’t a good start to our meal unfortunately.
What kind of people would we be if we went to a Japanese restaurant and not order any sushi and nigiri. We decided to order the toko nigiri which was a chef’s selection of nigiri sushi (7 pieces). I halved them all with my partner so I could have a try of everything. My favourite was of course the salmon. The sashimi were all fresh and melted in your mouth. We also ordered the spider maki rolls - soft shell crab, wasabi mayonnaise and rock chives, really delicious and easy to eat!
My favourite dish of the meal was the sake no miso taru taru - salmon tartare, wasabi miso and nori rice crackers. The salmon was flavoursome and I loved this idea of the nori rice crackers which dissolved in your mouth. I really enjoyed this dish! My partner loved it as well but some of his nori crackers were rock hard and he had to spit some of it out due to it being inedible.
Last dish was the butabara bara to kojichan miso - double cooked pork belly, spicy Korean miso (skewers). The pork belly was so succulent and juicy. It was screaming fat, but boy was it delicious. It was so tender and didn’t need much effort to chew or to rip off the skewer.
Overall, I really enjoyed this place. Food was very fresh! Service was nice and quick and great atmosphere.
The sushi was spectacular. Loved the miso eggplant and the chill rhubarb crumble dessert was refreshing and unique. The chocolate and hazelnut fondant was another highlight. The pork ribs were nice but a bit too sweet. The food was great but the service wasn’t great. It was really hard to get any waiter’s attention, our water glasses were constantly left empty but the food came in reasonable time.
An amazing Japanese restaurant serving delicacies. Definitely will give a second try. Had unagi sushis and scallops that day and they were really good! There were two kinds of unagi sushi I tried, one in rolls and the other was nigiri with foie gras. The unagi rolls were more refreshing with cucumbers inside while the unagi and foie gras nigiri tasted quite smooth and savory. For me I would absolutely pick the nigiri because I am a fan of foie gras! The scallops were a little over cooked but still great with apple sauce and ginger slice. Although it was a bit pricey, the whole experience was excellent. The only pity was that the foie gras was too small for me to enjoy lol.
Ate here a few months ago. Great atmosphere, good service, great food. Rivals Sake incredibly well (I think I preferred this more).
All meat, sashimi and dessert was excellent. Would come back for more.
We started here with the watermelon martini which was pretty insane, we had it while we waited for our table. The food was very nice loved the sashimi especially that tuna sashimi, that was pretty insane! And the beef tatami just melted in your mouth...
Been here few times, love this place, highly recommend any grilled food and Kingfish Sashimi. Good vibe, though a little too dark, always busy, reservation recommended on the weekends.
I had the tasting menu and it was an absolute delight to behold. The seafood was so incredibly fresh and well done - the oysters were beyond amazing and the scampi nigiri were some of my favourites.
One of the best Japanese fine dining restaurants I’ve been to along with Sokyo and Sake. Highly recommended and each dish was just as impeccable as the next. This food was shared with a group of 5 of us. Apologies for the quality of the images, the lighting was quite dim.
Small dishes:
-Hiramasa no usuzukuri ~ sliced kingfish, yuzu-truffle, chives
-Tai no sashimi to karikari tori ~ thinly sliced wild snapper, truffle oil, pork crackling
-Gyu niku gyoza ~ wagyu beef gyoza, white-soy mustard, shiso
Toko rolls:
-Pirikara aburizake to avocado maki ~ spicy seared salmon, avocado, cucumber, squid ink tenkasu
-Spider maki ~ soft-shell crab, wasabi mayonnaise, rock chives
Seafood:
-Hotate no jalapeño amazu zoe ~ robata grilled scallops, sweet pickled apple, jalapeño garlic
-Hata no saikyo yaki ~ miso black cod, seasonal pickles
Meat:
-Amiyaki ro-is niku no wafu sauce ~ scotch fillet steak, wafu sauce, garlic chips
I cannot say enough good things about Toko - one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney. The food is amazing and we got to sit by the kitchen and watch the chefs prepare our meal. We opted for a tasting menu and we couldn’t pick a favourite! The atmosphere is buzzing and the service can’t be faulted - perfect for any occasion.
We had dinner at Toko on a Saturday night as a date night and had an incredible evening. We sat at the bar in front of the chefs which added to the experience.
The food was perfect and the service was what you expect from a fine dining restaurant.
I’ll definitely be back!
Good interior .Food is very delicious . I loved the eggplant and also the carpaccio was mouthwatering . Price is on the expensive side but worth it . Presentation is amazing.
a very good place for a fine dining. Everything is incredible here. The set of food is really good. We order the 78$ per person. Really nice. Best experience ever
Came here for a friend’s birthday and we got the chefs tasting menu. The food was honestly amazing! I love jap-fusion and this place did not disappoint! Every dish was on point! I absolutely loved the desserts! My only fault for this restaurant is the seating is shared and the music is too loud that we couldn’t hear what the waiter was saying and couldn’t really hear each other. I didn’t get the name of the dessert but it had a refresh lychee taste! Soo refreshing! The scallops was my favourite and the cheese in the tempura zucchini was soo amaze! Would defs come back to try more!
Went here as a birthday surprise and I was so pleased with the service and food. Staff were very accommodating and gave us good recommendations. If you’re indecisive and don’t mind raw seafood/rare meat, go for the set menu. Timing of the dishes were good and I actually got full from the 9 course. Highlight dishes were the oysters, assorted sashimi (especially the scampi), miso salmon and yellow fish tuna
Extremely popular restaurant - I was too hungry to take photos but tried the more expensive set menu (forgot the name).
The food was tasty and presented beautifully, however some of the dishes were a bit disappointing. The stand out would have to be the cocktails - I had the matcha one and it was DELICIOUS.
Have to admit I wasn’t expecting to be full. However, by the second last dish I was about to explode which rarely happens when I go to these “fancier” restaurants.
Staff were very friendly and attentive which I appreciated especially since it was so busy.
Would recommend giving this place a try :)
The Food and service was 10 out of 10. Quality of food is amazing and can’t wait to go back. Staff were super friendly and were very patient with us. Took us forever to decide what we wanted but ended up getting half the menu between 4 of us anyways, we wanted a bit of everything and we have no regrets 😋
Decided to come here and try the Sora tasting menu after seeing so many good reviews online and I have to agree the food here is delicious and the atmosphere is great too! I would've scored higher but I felt rushed towards the end of my meal by the waiters/waitresses as a line had started to form at the front and also the fact that I got charged $20 for water (but that was my own mistake lol).
Oysters - tasted so fresh! The sauce gave it a nice flavour without taking away from the oyster taste
Yellowfin tuna - was an okay dish
Venison/Sashimi/Wagyu nigiri/crispy soft shell crab - all enjoyable and tasty dishes
Scampi nigiri/scotch fillet steak - these two were my favourite dishes of the entire tasting menu!!
Zucchini - wasn't my favourite dish tbh
Miso salmon - flavour was nice but the salmon portion I got was a bit overcooked
Marscapone icecream - wasn't too sweet and was a great way to finish off the menu!
Also I ordered the kakeru cocktail and would highly recommend everyone try this cocktail. One of the best cocktails I've ever had I had to go and order a second one hahaha
Firstly, this is not a "fine dining" restaurant. Serving small dishes doesn't automatically entitle a restaurant to be included in the restaurant in fine dining group. The dishes must be of superior quality and fancy, which is not the case in Toko.We have tried a chef's degustation option a few day ago. The dishes, although tasty and well prepared were simple, didn't involve any elaborate cooking techniques, and were not that original. Each dish lacked sophistication and finesse. It is like going to any good Japanese restaurant and asking for a sample of all the dishes they have. It is a good restaurant but very overprised at $100 per person for degustation menu consisting of standard Japanese food.I was going to rate it for the quality of food as 3.8/5 but giving it 3.5 because we paid $10 for a medium size still bottle of water after asking for tap water. Also we were tricked into having $8 fried peas which we thought was gratis. It is not the matter of the extra unexpected cost, but the sensation of being ripped off. Was it really necessary? The bottom like is: if you want fine dining experience don't go there. If you feel like having some good Japanese food, but not worried about money, you might enjoy it.
Came here for my birthday dinner after hearing many recommendations, Toko did not fail to meet those expectations. I highly recommend the black cod (the fish melts off your tongue), zucchini flower (with the surprise cheese at the end), spinach salad and the pork belly (absolutely delicious, generous portions too). The only comment that I can make is that due to its popularity, the restaurant was very busy, therefore it was very hard to hear each other. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable evening.
This place is an instant go-to for that special occasion. The service is great, the cocktails are amazing, and the food is some of the best Japanese fusion I have ever had. Twice now my partner and I have gotten the two set menus and enjoyed every bite. Their soft shell crab, tuna sashimi, and marinated steaks are my personal favourites.
Highly recommended!!
Ramen Club every Saturday during the month of November
Toko is a Japanese restaurant located in Surry Hills that offers an izakaya dining experience. During the month of November on every Saturday, there would be a pop up Ramen Club offering food from a select menu from truffle ramen to wagyu gyoza. N2 Extreme Gelato also is serving its vanilla, yuzu and orange-blossom dessert.
The restaurant was blocked off with minimal seating available in front of the bar, side of the entrance and outside. We waited briefly and requested to sit outside. We were greeted by a friendly male waitstaff who took our order of truffle ramen, yuzu ramen, wagyu gyoza, fried chicken, crispy pork knuckle bo ssam, and N2 gelato. To drink, we ordered a lemon, lime and bitters.
The food came out relatively quick. The lemon, lime and bitters was nice and wasn't post mix. It had the right amount of bitters.
The truffle and yuzu ramen was served with chasu, cabbage, egg, bamboo and spring onions. We requested an extra serving of chasu but we were told by the server when we enquired that it was already in the bowl, there definitely was not extra chasu. The broth was tasty, not too salty and rich in flavour. The noodles were cooked just right, it had some bite to it. The egg and bamboo was cooked well. The cabbage was soft and a nice compliment to the dish. The chasu was soft and pulled apart easily with each bite.
The wagyu gyoza with white soy, mustard seeds, truffle oil and shiso was juicy and yummy. I could have easily finished the plate to myself. It was slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The fried chicken was served with sourcream, cavier and white sauce. This dish was disappointing as it was dry, and the flavors were okay. The hot sauce was spicy and the sourcream helped mellow out the spice in your mouth.
Because we ordered the pork knuckle later on, I had a feeling that the order wasn't placed as the dishes came out pretty quickly. After a long wait, we decided to enquire and the order wasn't placed. After we placed the order, it took a while before it came out. I'm glad we persisted with the dish as it was the highlight dish. It was a large serving cooked in sweet mustard soy with a side of kimchi, lettuce leaves and wasabi apple relish. The pork was crispy, and had some soft meat. It was a yummy combination when you ate it in a lettuce wrap with the sides. It was messy to eat but so good. The combination of sweet, salty and spicy was well balanced.
The gelato was yummy with yuzu curd, vanilla gelato, orange blossom jelly, toasted almonds and freeze dried pineapple. It was a nice way to end the meal with a combination of sweet and tangy. The almonds gave it a nice texture.
Staff was difficult to wave down or gone MIA. We had to go up once to speak with someone.
Verdict: Definitely coming back to try the regular menu.
Got the Sora tasting menu to share between two. All the dishes were exquisite and perfectly seasoned - can't even fault a single one. The scampi nigiri topped with shaved foie gras is easily one of the best things I've ever tasted. I would rate it 6 out of 5 if I could❤️❤️. Other highlights of the night was the pacific oysters and the mascarpone ice cream.
Unfortunately the service was rather unprofessional and disorganised - I would have rated Toko 4.5 otherwise.
We came here just out of curiosity.
Did not expect that the foods were actually taste delicious, and interesting.
Service was good
Love the decoration and the atmosphere.
Location: Very hard to find parking in this area. End up got fine because was late by 5 min 😰😰
Overall was good. Price is affordable.
I've been here twice for my anniversary and i love it! Great service and the food is amazing! Can't wait for my next visit 😍 My favourite cocktail is the Kakeru's cloud.
Although I had higher expectations of the place I did enjoy toko. We had the kingfish ceviche which was fresh and the sashimi platter. The kingfish and crab sushi was divine!!!!! I particularly enjoyed the pork belly skewer but not so much the chicken wing skewer. Dessert was a miss - not my flavours but the description and recommendation by the waitress had me so excited. Although the waitress forgot to give us spoons for our dessert, I appreciate the sparkler given to us with our dessert.
Extremely pleasant dining experience, unfortunately they don't take bookings for tables under 10, the wait was quite long but was definitely worth it.
We ordered the sora tasting menu which was amazing! There was a mixture of everything! Some sashimi, perfectly cooked beef, miso soup.
All dishes were very well prepared and flavour wise was great! All dishes were definitely above average.
Definitely would recommend!
We had the soft shell crab tempura, ebi tempura, kingfish and blood lime makimono, chirashi makimono, go ten sashimi (5 varieties), duck breast with marinated nashi pear robata, arburi unagi nigiri, hotate nigiri. All were great. Servings are on the smaller daintier side but I have to say we were satisfied for 4 people sharing those dishes. Stand outs were the kingfish and blood lime makimono and soft shell crab tempura. Everything was really fresh and easy on the palette with interesting surprises. Service was great. Just wish they gave us proper chopsticks instead of wooden disposable ones.
Delicious Japanese degustation, the let down was the dessert (keep in mind that I ate here 12 months ago and the desserts have changed), the rest of the food was scrumptious and I didn't want to leave. Beautiful atmosphere and ambiance, dimly lit in comparison to other restaurants but it definitely set to mood to relax and enjoy. Overall a delicious and relaxing experience.
Toko definitely occupies the place of best sushi in Sydney alongside Sake and Sokyo. Highest quality of fresh sashimi and perfectly cooked wagyu beef. These were the standouts for us. This places has an abundance of top quality wines to match and their service was prompt and warm. I look forward to visiting again and perhaps try the tasting menu.

I come here often either with clients, functions or dinners.
It's very good Japanese in the trendy part of town - nice fusion and modern Japanese food.
The cocktails are good and the dishes are delicious. One thing that does surprise me is that their selection of sashimi and sushi is quite vast and one that you would expect from a traditional Japanese restaurant
We went to Toko on a Monday night and it wasn't busy so we were given a table straight away. There were so many dishes to choose from we decided to go with the $78 chefs tasting menu. It started with pacific oysters that were fresh shucked and tasty. The sliced kingfish with yuzu and chives was a good combination of delicate flavours. It was =followed by the seared beef with pickled onions, mizuna and garlic chips which was one of the highlights of the night. All of the sashimi and seafood was extremely fresh and to a high standard. The venison with uni butter and daikon had lots of flavour and the scallops with sweet pickled apple and jalapeno garlic was also a hit. The tempura zucchini flowers was probably my least favourite dish as the feta felt out of place with the rest of the menu. We finished with the perfectly cooked marinated lamb cutlets that was served with a lovely chilli miso and pickled eggplant. By the time dessert was served we were full and struggled to get through the coffee mousse, chocolate sorbet, honeycomb and whisky foam as it was quite large and rich. This place is one of my top three Japanese restaurants in Sydney as it has an extensive menu with high quality fresh produce and good atmosphere.
The place looked great! They don't don't take bookings and the restaurant got full quickly. The food was amazing!!! Everything tastes great especially the zucchini flowers...
Toko, a contemporary Japanese fine-dining restaurant, located in the heart of Surry Hills. As first time visitors, my friend and I decided to try out the tasting menu, which includes 10+ dishes, ranging from raw seafood to miso soup. The food taste ridiculously delicious and fresh. The service was excellent, and my water glass was continuously filled during the night.
The serving was so small, which forced me chew so slow to absorb all the goodness inside, while wondering "Why only two scallops/ salmons etc?". But I guess this experience was to enjoy the art of cooking after all. Exceptional food and great company really makes a difference.
Our review this week came from a Japanese izakaya restaurant, called Toko. The restaurant is located in a busy suburb of Surry Hills in Sydney. We were there to celebrate one of our friends’ birthday with a set menu, Matsuri Banquet Menu. There was quite an extensive list of items in the menu.
Came in on Friday date night without a booking, we were seated straight away at the bar overlooking the cooking which was lovely. We decided on trying the tasting menu at $78pp - no regrets! The food was delicious from start to finish - the oysters, kingfish and seared beef were particularly noteworthy. The dessert was very rich and came with a scoop of icecream. We came in not expecting much as we found the place on a whim, and we left extremely satisfied - our tastebuds loved it. Will definitely be back!
If you have to choose between Sokyo and Toko, go to Toko. Not as crowded because it's not in a massive hotel like the Star, so the quality is a little bit more refined in my opinion. The ambiance is just as nice if not nicer. I dined here on my birthday with a friend and we were not disappointed whatsoever. We both ordered the tsuchi tasting menu ($72 pp.) and everything was done to perfection. The staff was super friendly and when we asked them to modify the menu for us pescatarians, they willingly agreed to meet our needs and so our food was a mixture of dishes mainly from the tsuchi menu and a few dishes from sora. The food was well-prepared and you could really taste the quality (it was worth every cent!). There were a total of 12 dishes and we were completely stuffed by the 11th one (sadly we could not finish the miso salmon). The only let down was the dessert. We had the chocolate fondant and combined with the ice cream, it was too sweet even for dessert-lovers like us. Cocktails were great too! Definitely will be coming back
Amazing. I ordered a dish with KingFish and Truffle Oil, and it was absolutely stunning. Servings are small, although this is a fine dining restaurant and you're paying for service, atmosphere, food quality and presentation. Very nice, the flavour is still in my mouth.
Date night here - Friday night. Was a lil worried about cheating on Sokyo 🙈 but must say great ambience. Everything we had was amazing! Service was fantastic! Plenty of gluten free options! I don't think I could fault any dish we had! Will definitely go back. Thanks for an amazing experience Toko team!
After a day, the taste of lamb Still keeps on my tongue. IT is really worth to come, the open course " oyster", is one of the best oyster I had in Sydney. But on the courses, There Was a BBQ broccoli, it Was not perfect to mix with other courses, a salad will be great.

Love the variety of their menu. Their lamb dishes are divine. Great selection of sake. You will also find a lot of fusion options as well. Servings are tiny. Very pricey restaurant for the service and food you will get
We used to come to Tokos a lot but parking, and price rising has dampened the good experiences we once had. Food portioning could be better for the price paid. Still a great place but some dishes are ridiculously priced.
Absolutely phenomenal Japanese food! It was one of our THHF members birthday, so we splashed out on the $98/head tasting menu, and were not disappointed! Every dish was perfectly made, so dainty and perfectly detailed. Sashimi was to die for, never tasted something so fresh in my life! Mouth watering just thinking about it..... :) Thankyou!
Absolutely brilliant and worth the two hour wait (never go without a booking on a Saturday night). We ordered quite a number of dishes including sashimi, nigiri, duck, sushi rolls, salads, desserts etc. Almost every single dish was outstanding and my friends said the duck was one of the best dishes they have ever had, it was just done to perfection. The atmosphere and the decor were fantastic as well.
Great atmosphere with lovely food. We really enjoyed our dinner at Toko. The sushi here were excellent. But sometimes it is really hard to find a parking spot.
Great vibe, pretty busy, so general chatter in the background with warm music. Good dim lighting in a contemporary Japanese setting. You can sit in front of the chefs as they prepare the food, which always makes for good viewing. Waiting staff were very friendly and took our coats for us and brought back without us having to ask when we had finished.
Had sushi for entree which was a nice combination of soft and crunchy textures, baby chicken spatchcock main was very tender but the seasoning was too strong for my liking and for dessert had the hazelnut fondant with ice cream. One of the few Japanese places I've been to that actually did a chocolate based dessert well. Delicious! Topped it off with a nice Riesling. Will be back again :)
What an amazing experience! Went here to catch up with a mate I hadn't seen in a while a d this was the perfect place. We sat up at the bar and got to see all the plates come out. Everything that was served has excellent presentation. The staff were very friendly and helpful even though it was a busy night. All the cocktails were great. We had the tasting plate for $95 per head and got soft shell crabs as well. The pace that everything came out in was perfect and the size of the servings were just right for a tasting option. We were just the right amount of full. Looking forward to coming back again.
Toko - A modern experience of Japanese Izakaya.
We tried the tasting menu and sashimi omakase.
we didn't get a reservation, instead tried walking in and we got an outdoor space.
Atmosphere- it's on point and honestly a pretty large space to accommodate a good amount of people.
Service - very good and friendly services with adequate understanding over the extensive menus.
Food - Their Oyster Yuzu is amazing! Have to try. sashimi are fresh and the deserts are freshingly new.
Drinks- we were recommended two sweet sake and it was amazing. a yuzu sake and sweet umeshu.
price- in my opinion it's pricey for a modern izakaya but justified by everything else that i mentioned.
Great service. Gets busy fast but food came out very quickly so we didn’t have to wait. I highly recommend the beef tataki, scampi nigiri, kingfish, sashimi omakase, lamb cutlets and yuzu cheesecake. Miso cod was expensive and not as great as Sokyo. Pork belly skewer was not very nice either, it wasn’t crispy and tender as I expected from yakitori places. Nigiri was okay but not as tasty as the sashimi. Lychee martini was tasty.
Dinner here with group of four.
Our sitting was on a Friday night at around 8:30.
We ordered the tasting menu with the additional Wagu steak course which came to around $150 per person (without drinks)
Except for the sashimi, each course was well presented and full of flavour. My particular favourites were the scampi nigiri and wagu steak followed closely by the seared scallop course.
While the sashimi was fresh, It didn’t appeal to me however I don’t think you could order a Japanese tasting menu without some form of sashimi making an appearance?
The wait staff were friendly and attentive.
Altogether we had a very pleasant dinner and I would recommend a visit for those who are looking for a premium Japanese fine dining experience.
The best japanese restaurant ever👍🏻 Had chef's selection of signature dishes and all the dishes were absolutely amazing & fresh. Friendly and professional staffs. Scampi nigiri & lamb cutlets are definitely the must.
Divine!!! The food is delicious, with plenty of vegan options which are incredibly tasty, as well as meat and seafood option. Highlights were the oysters, kingfish and spicy tofu. The cocktails are so special - try the velveteen for something special! Cool vibe and friendly staff. Would return in a hurry!
Ordered the tasting menu, portions are slightly small but well presented. Nice atmosphere with all tables seated. We were lucky enough to be seated infront of a chef, who carefully carved each fish effortlessly. There is also a cocktail bar serving fresh cocktails of your choice, it suited nicely. Prices is on the high end losing a star.
