Such beautiful & simple seasonal food - staff serving us upstairs were lovely too. Would highly recommend.
Amazing food combination in a lovely cozy setting. Would highly recommend this place đ
Food and service is amazing, I had the ravioli and it was the best I have ever had, also the apple crumble is to die for!
An absolute gem. The food was fantastic, full of flavour and great combinations, highlights the thinking and skills of the chef. With really friendly and helpful staff, this restaurant is one to definitely return to try the rest of the menu.
Absolutely amazing!! Cozy n lovely ambience, great service and absolutely tasty food. Chicken liver parfait n terrine are unbelievably tasty. Cultured cream stracciatella with heirloom tomato are such a match in heaven.
My husband hated cauliflower but your beautiful smoked cauliflower mash has changed him. He now loves cauliflower!! Such tender and flavoursome beef cheeks that melted in our mouth. The wonderful taste is still lingering in our mouth. Yummm.....The fresh mulloway was cooked perfectly and pair with silky smoked cauliflower, awesome!!
Thank you Kindred for such a wonderful experience tonight. We will be back!
Great service, very well priced .warm welcome and bread to die for, somewhere you could happily go once a week . Would recommend the beef cheek
Kind food to warm the soul on these cold evenings. The moist lasagne went down and filled the bellies of friends - a must do for all chippo locals. Charming decor. Bon appetite family!
Great place and food is amazing, just a little noisy when restaurant is full... will be back for sure
Amazing service and even better food - would definitely recommend ïżœ
This amazing Italian restaurant is a Godsend! Delicious food and fine wines, great service and a cosy relaxing ambience. I have been here twice since they opened. Tried many dishes and they were all equally great! The Strawberries, pistachio, meringue and rhubarb sorbet is to die for. Will definitely be back for more.
Absolutely delightful and accommodating. Team couldn't do enough to make me feel valued and welcome and food was delicious. Highly recommend.
Busy but not noisy food delightful mine gnocchi theirs lasgne & pork ragu plus cabbage salad
We shared chocolate dessert very awesome.
Excellent food here, very wholesome, fresh and you can tell the chefs really enjoy cooking it for you. Authentic wine list , great waitstaff and great atmosphere. Recommended.
Kindred, 5 star food and service. My favourite restaurant experience.
Reminiscent of the fresh tastes and creativity of Stefano di Pieri in Mildura at his best.

Great neighbourhood gem serving up amazing pasta with an interesting wine list to match.
Absolutely loved the dining experience at Kindred, loved the food, loved the homemade sourdough bread & with warm melted butter, entreeâs, main meals & desserts were incredible & service was great.
Definitely will be back soon.
Thank you Kindred. ïżœ
Amazing food and service, very cozy atmosphere. Great place to go for a date, canât wait to go again!
Canât believe I havenât visited this dining establishment on Cleveland Street until recently. We came here as a group to celebrate an early Christmas get together.
To get into the festive spirit we decided on sharing all the dishes. We had the suggestion of how much to order from the lovely waitstaff. They were attentive and helpful. We opted not to get the chefâs menu as we wanted to decide as a group what we wanted.
Started off with the amazing House-Made Sourdough Bread With House-Made Cultured Butter. As a table we agreed we couldâve just eaten this for dinner and we wouldâve been happy campers. It was so soft in the middle and had a nice crust on the outside this would be close to perfection in my eyes.
Other highlights of the evening included the Carrot Triangoli. The were parcels of pasta filled with carrot and served with goatâs cheese and pistachios and served with brown butter. The handmade pasta is scrumptious. Pappardelle which was served with beef shin ragu and mushrooms had a wonderfully meaty intense flavour to it. The meat was tender and sauce was thick. The Beef Short Rib was melt in the mouth. Served with a variety of vegetables and onion jus, it was a well composed dish.
The desserts were very good but I enjoyed the Baked Butterscotch Custard the most. Served with fermented cream and dark choc gelato. This was a fantastic finish to evening.
Still canât believe Iâve waited until now to try this restaurant! If you want quality Italian food that wonât break the bank this is well worth visiting.
I dined at Kindred on a weeknight with a friend. The restaurant is very cute and rustic. We were seated immediately and given table water and menus. We had the following dishes:
- house made sourdough bread - we ordered one serving of bread which we thought was enough for two. It was served warm with butter. Yum.Â
- Sardines on whole wheat crackers - I thought these had a great flavour and could have easily eaten a few more of them
- Smoked trout dip - I loved this starter and the rye and carroway lavosh that was served with it. Something a bit different if you like seafood. Â
- Parsley fusilli with grilled eggplant and mozzarella - a wholesome dish that I would eat at anytime of the day. Plenty of grilled eggplant too.Â
- Bucatini with guanciale tomato and chilli oil - My favourite of the two pasta dishes. The salty balance with the spice. Delicious.
Overall, I loved the food and experience at Kindred and cannot wait to return. Unfortunately I don't have any photos as we were too keen to get stuck into it.
We came here on Saturday afternoon luckily had book for 5 people. We ended up going for the 8 course which cost $55 I would recommend it. Great value and the food it's so good worth every dollar. However it does take quite a while about 2 and half hours so make sure your in no rush.
Outstanding from start to finish, everything made in house and was cooked to perfection. Great value and serving sizes, no BS brilliant pasta the way it should be with attentive service.
Fabulously homey place, warm and unpretentious. Rustic doorstops of housemade bread and butter are a lovely way to start and a good example of the Kindred food ethos, generous, homemade food, crafted with love and a real sense of style but no ego. It's self assured cooking that will leave you full and warm. The chicken liver parfait is a generous entree, silky smooth and rich. House pickled veggies on the side to cut the fat and make sure you don't over kill before you even hit the mains. Housemade pasta is a delight, perfectly al dente and more than generous as a main dish or if you prefer as a mid entree before mains. The lamb ragu was tender and unctious with great mouthfeel. I recommend the reginette with jerusalem artichokes, mushrooms and truffled pecerino, silky and smoky umaminess. Artichoke crisps decorating the surface add texture and beauty. The cabbage salad with raisins, pine nuts and buttermilk dressing a good side of veg to cute any guilt from all that pate and pasta. Alas was too full for desert but will be back to indulge in more goodness. No photos unfortunately as the lighting is quite dim and i was having too good a time living in the moment to spend it snapping pictures, though everything was cameraworthy!
Absolutely loved this place. A quaint setting, lovely service, and â the food makes you feel like your nonna just hugged you! (Even if youâre asian!)
A great place for a date or friends catch up, with no quarrels over the price. Special shout outs from me for the liver parfait and charred sourdough, strataciella, and gnocchi. â€ïž oh, and the home brewed ginger soda.
Kindred is a cosy Italian restaurant tucked into a narrow terrace shopfront in Darlington on the city fringe, bustling with hungry diners on the weekend we visited. Their seasonal menu has a strong focus on pasta and we found that their hearty style of cuisine worked especially well with the winter chill â we loved the vibrant flavours in the Bucatini with Guanciale, with the strands of hollow, thick spaghetti-like pasta coated in a rich chilli tomato sauce and slivers of delicious cured pork jowl meat that gave it some crunchy texture.
This was the best meal Iâve had in Sydney by far. Forget about the daggy decor and the fact that you are pretty much sitting on each otherâs laps in this tiny space. Focus on the food because the food is excellent, better than youâll get in name restaurants. Beautiful homemade soft bread and butter was a welcome starter. But the standout dish for me was the octopus, eggplant purĂ©e, pea tendrils. I could not identify the protein at first, because it was so soft and delicate. Thatâs so often NOT the case with octopus. Everything on that plate worked to create an explosion of flavour. Secondly, the braised asparagus and the charrred broccoli with preserved lemon. Iâve been cooking braised broccolini with goats cheese or goats curd, and preserved lemon ever since. The pasta was very delicate, with a subtle hint of brown butter- delicious filling. All wow! I was too full to order dessert but that will have to wait till next time. Service was personal, warm and natural.
Firstly, loved the staff. We had so much fun with them!
We ordered:
- carrot triangoli: BEST DISH. oh my goodness it was so delicious and buttery and wow (5/5)
- mushroom ravioli: lovely earthy flavours, another good dish and I would recommend (4/5)
- tomato olive and cheese pasta: nothing exciting, it was fairly standard (3/5)
- desserts were nice but not amazing. We ordered chocolate fondant and lemon tart. The fondant came out with a giant scoop of ice cream on top :( I like it when you can cut into the fondant and see the chocolate oozing out. Lemon tart was super tart in flavour
Interesting. Allround a pleasant experience. Good service definitely, with stress laid on the variety of edible items hand-made in-house. Does that justify a $25 bowl of pasta? While it was tasty n fairly substantial that price kept popping into mind as I walked home. Decor is a bit bare, wooden and bricky. Is that some person's odd notion of austere Scandi aesthetic people are indulging at present? Viz, Acre in Camperdown. A bit brassily loud. (The austere aesthetic?) We heard every word of the adjacent table's inanities about Sydney real estate. Dinner was enjoyed with a couple of glasses of nice, mellow Sangiovese, the price of which I can't recall.
My partner and I have been to Kindred 6 or 7 times now and we just keep coming back for more. Such simple, fresh and delicious menu options. Will be back again soon.
Two words. Chocolate Fondant. It's so life-altering, you will wish it never touched your tastebuds at all. But in all seriousness, my partner and I went here on a 'Week-After-Valentines-Day Date' and we we both left very full and very happy. Great for vegetarians and a cute date that doesn't break the bank.Â
Everything is just so fresh at Kindred. The bread is crunchy, the pasta is silky smooth, the wine melts in your mouth. And the environment is warm, friendly and inviting. It's not just dinner, it's an experience. One I want to relive over and over.
We had a fantastic meal at Kindred! The Carrot triangoli was delicious - the butter sauce was rather rich but the pasta filling was fantastic. We both ordered the flank steak for main course which was cooked perfectly.I'd definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for a family celebration. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming and the waitress was helpful and attentive. We'll certainly be returning.
Absolutely loved the vibe of this place, the friendly staff and really good service! Kindred is definitely a hidden gem. I came here with my partner for his birthday and we ordered the silver dory which was cooked to perfection. The cauliflower purĂ©e was creamy and consistent, and the greens and beans made for a well balanced palate altogether. We also ordered lasagne and my boyfriend truly enjoyed it, everything just tasted so homemade â€ïž
Thanks guys! Will definitely be back here again!!!
What local dining dreams are made of! Cosy setting with incredible homely dishes with the elegance and subtleties of finer dining establishments. The pasta is always impeccable, as well as the mains. The philosophy and dedication behind the husband and wife team means much of the menu is made in-house; from bread and condiments through to the cheeses, pickled vegetables and gorgeous desserts. This a special venue full of soul and artisan skill.
This is a great little local gem, the place is casual but the food is delicious. The veggie dishes were particular highlights as well as the house made bread and butter, yum!
I had the gnocchi tonight and it was the perfect light and fluffy with flavour in itself. The green beans with house made chilli sauce and whipped ricotta was my standout though.
Definitely coming back.
Don't Believe The Hype
+3.5
I had heard this was quite a trendy place to go. Nice chilled atmosphere and crowd when we went. The fit out was nice.
We had pasta dishes and there was nothing wrong with them but i also wasnt blown away by any means.
I would say this is a good "safe" option, on balance it was an enjoyable experience but i wont rush back.
Visited this restaurant following a friends recommendation and I am glad we did. Food was amazing. Authentic, tasty, great quality food. Each item lovingly prepared. Immediately made a reservation for a birthday celebration the week after. Cosy place, great ambience and fantastic service. Not a single downside to this place. Must visit!
I love this place! Cute and cosy, a lovely wine selection and food was delicious and beautifully made. Staff went above and beyond to make us feel at ease and even posted my credit card back to me when I left it there after one too many wines...
Located on busy Cleveland St, Darlington is the kitsch restaurant, Kindred. Aptly named, the friendly staff and setting will make you feel like part of the family. Serving mainly Italian Cuisine with much of their menu produced from scratch, in house and all made with love. The extra effort translating to a memorable dining experience.
Located on Cleveland street Chippendale, Kindred restaurant is a must visit. The staff are fantastic and can guide you through the delicious menu made up of starters, pastas, mains, salads and dessert.
The restaurant has a romantic feel but was also perfect for group dining. We had a group of six and were lucky enough to sample the majority of the Italian inspired menu!
Order the olives, pickled vegetables and bread to nibble on whilst you peruse the wine menu. For starters we had the chicken liver parfait on sourdough, octopus with rocket purée, sweet potato triangoli and stracciatella with tomatoes, basil and balsamic. I'm not usually one to order chicken parfait but this one was light and delicious. For me the stand out was the sweet potato triangoli with burnt butter, goats cheese and hazelnuts - I could have eaten this dish as a main. Any choice you make here will be a great way to start your dining experience.
For mains we sampled the pork fillet with kipfler potatoes, pappardelle beef ragu, meatballs and mushroom rotolo. Every dish was full of flavor and it is impossible to choose a favorite. The pastas pair well with the salads, especially the rocket, walnut, pear and gorgonzola salad.
Make sure you save room for dessert - the coconut yogurt pana cotta and the chocolate fondant were both mouthwatering. Pair all your dishes with some fantastic white wines and you will have a feast to remember at Kindred Thewhereto The RnB Diary Taylor Mckay
An absolutely fantastic evening spent at one of the friendliest and most hospitable restaurants I have visited in a long time. The service was absolutely outstanding from the very start with no request too much trouble and the overall ambience of the restaurant is charming and cosy.
We enjoyed a selection of entrees and mains from the Italian inspired menu and I can honestly say that there wasnât a bad dish among them â beef Ragu pappardelle was a particular highlight as was the chicken liver parfait. Moreover, Kindred actually make many of their ingredients in-house including sourdough, cultured butter, all their pasta and they even grow some of their vegetables as well! This passion for their craft really shines through and only adds to the overall experience.
Itâs obvious that similar thought has gone into the drinks menu with a selection of Australian and New Zealand wines and, naturally, a strong representation from Italy. There are also a number of beers sourced from craft breweries within Sydney which is a great touch.
Kindred is a true gem â highly recommended.Coffeebrunchanddinner Thewhereto
Kindred is a little gem of a restaurant that I have had the good fortune to visit several times since it opened earlier this year. No disappointments here. Great food and ambience with a changing and innovative menu. Looking forward to next time.
When it comes to the Italian inspired menu, everything is house-made. From the bread to the cultured butter, from the pasta to the crĂšme fraiche and pickles. Even the herbs are grown out back. All this makes for a very genuine inner city venue with a bucket load of personality and some serious ambition. Thereâs nowhere to hide with this kind of cuisine â itâs honest, unpretentious and most importantly all âround delicious....

I traveled to Sydney at the weekend from Melbourne for a reunion dinner at Kindred on Saturday night and was so impressed with with the decor, ambience, friendly staff and most importantly the amazing food Matt Pollock produces. Our group sampled a fantastic variety of appetizers, entrees, main courses then desserts. The vegetarians in the group were very well catered for and all meals were accompanied by a prefect selection of wines. This is the best Italian food I have eaten in Australia. Look forward to returning soon.
My partner and I went here for dinner the other night and defiantly recommend. Food and wine matched well and the servings were decent for the price. Kindred reminded me of a rare find cottage style resteraunt I would stumble across while travelling in a wine region, like the hunter or tassy. But its in the city! We will be back for that slow cooked lamb papadalle any time year round.
I love my new local! Great place to pop in for a cheeky bowl of pasta and glass of wine. Everything is made in-house and I can taste the love. We had the beef ragu, cos lettuce salad with buttermilk dressing  and almonds and the triangoli with burnt butter sauce which was amazing. Really reasonably priced for such good quality food. We'll be back again and again.
For the second time since opening we dined at Kindred and for the second time we indulged in super food. Much of the food including the pasta, breads, butter is made by the chef on site and these are amazing. The service was friendly and efficient in a cosy, welcoming environment. We will be back soon.
I am not one to write reviews usually, but Kindred deserves one for it's honesty and homely feeling. Exciting to see this v cosy place in my neighbourhood! We can clearly see and taste the hard yards that go into making so many things from scratch. Best terrine I have tried in ages, excellent pasta (try the lamb w pappardelle!) there is a lot of good pasta in Sydney but Kindred is my new top pick. I wished we could have kept on eating..although full we had to try the fig pudding. Yum yum yum! We are booking our Christmas party here. Thank you!!
Everything from the sourdough to the cultured butter and of course the pasta is made in-house at Darlington newcomer Kindred. Thereâs a long list on the back of the menu outlining what they make (itâs impressive! Whether itâs vincotto or yoghurt, they make it from scratch).
Fantastic food and service! We all loved the pasta (I had the beef ragu) and the desserts were amazing. Staff were so accommodating- we will definitely be back!
A homely inconspicuous gem on Cleveland St that my partner and I have already returned to for seconds! They make almost everything from the butter to the pasta in house and the food is spectacular, a menu where you want enough people so you can try everything!! The staff are lovely and for the quality the prices are incredible. A new addition to Sydney that already feels like home
This place needs to be on your radar. The service and wine list is impeccable. The food is everything you want Italian to be but can never actually find. Will be back.
A near-perfect little restaurant in a suburb that immediately feels more like a neighbourhood for having Kindred in it. Cosy, modest, charming and tasty.
We went to a lunch at Kindred a few weeks ago.  They make a heap of âstuffâ on site e.g pasta, bread, cultured butter, relishes and more and have an eclectic but well balanced wine list. The prices are very reasonable as I think this restaurant could stand up to some of the best in town.
I am not vegetarian but the Eggplant with soft polenta , roast capsicum, broccolini and whipped feta was âto die forâ. I would highly recommend a visit if you find yourself in that part of town.
Went to Kindle with a group of friends for my birthday and the staff went out of their way to make sure it was the perfect evening. Fantastic food, service and atmosphere - thank you!
What a super restaurant - awesome food, great atmosphere and a host of wines and some nice boutique beers to enjoy. Our second visit. Can't get enough of the house made food - bread, butter, terrines, pasta. Love the beef cheeks.
Fabulous food and atmosphere. I had the terrine for my entree, followed by the ravioli with the cos lettuce and buttermilk salad.
The flavours are beautiful and well balanced.
An absolute highlight was the orange Viognier from the Barossa Valley.
I will definitely be back!!
Divine cuisine paired with excellent wines and cocktails. A beautiful ambiance at the back of the restaurant plus a communal long dining table at the entrance.
The Burrata and Octopus were divine and the salads fresh and loaded with flavour. Most of the table enjoyed the delicious beef paradelle with everything cooked to perfection.
Unexpectedly, their focaccia was the best Iâve ever had - so fresh and melt in your mouth.
A great spot for a date or business dinner but perhaps not the right ambiance for spirited celebration.
Absolutely loved this place!
Pasta was beautiful - and we couldnât get enough of their house baked focaccia.
Dont skip the dessert, its so fluffy and tangy!
Highly recommend đ
Great vibe, staff very attentive and really know their stuff. Very cool decor and ambience. The food is good but not outstanding. The starters were diverse and enjoyable but basic. The mains were oversized and the flavour fusion didnât quite work. The chocolate cup dessert is amazing
A Tavola was a fine dining experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.
The service was very friendly. The staff were incredibly helpful in explaining the menu (which is like reading a foreign language) and making recommendations on what to order.
The food was so delicious. Every dish that was ordered was mouth-watering and of a superior quality. The wine selection was also amazing!
The restaurant has a lovely ambience which lends itself for a special occasion or a date night.
Proving just how popular this place is, it is recommended that you book a month in advance!
I'd definitely be keen to come back!
Wow! A Tavola was a surprise and delight. I received a surprise delivery from the restaurant as a gift from a friend and was absolutely delighted by the freshness and taste of everything included. There was also, easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to prepare each dish which the whole family was happy to get involved in. The ragu beef pasta was definitely a favourite dish we will go back for again and again.
This is by far my family's favourite restaurant. Genuine food, great staff and service, and great wine. The dessert is literally one of the best my wife and I have had.
Amazing dishes and wish they had this restaurant in Brisbane.
Had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner here, the food was authentic Italian style. Burrata cheese is very special and delicious, and we were pleasantly surprised by the combination of fruits. The fish recommended by the waiter in the restaurant is also very delicious, fried just right on the outside, and tender fish inside. The waiter was warm and friendly and provided effective help.
The only pity is that the serving speed is too slow, because everyone who entered the restaurant about the same time as us has eaten and left. The second is the raw beef of the appetizer that we think is too raw for us.
In short, this is an Italian dish that will not disappoint you. Their environment design is very cute, their service attitude is very good, the price is moderate and high, and the seats are a bit narrow.
One of the Italian restaurants I've been meaning to visit and it did not let me downđ. Love everything from ambiance to service and food. Our table server was friendly and helpful with making order recommendations. Pastas we had on the day were perhaps both specials as I could not find on their website menu. The seafood one was very yummy so I'm sad that I didn't note the name of the dishđ„ș. The seafood one was tortellini with prawns(?) and fish roes, the other one was rigatoni al ragu - complimented brilliantly with each otherđ. The mood was homely and perfect for a romantic dinner date.
