We had a fantastic dinner here! Great value of food and wine list. The food was a total taste-bud explosion and very fresh. The booking system is easy to handle and the service is awesome. I would highly recommend and revisit. Lovely regards from Germany Sina & Jan
Highly recommend this new place.. food and service was out of this world. You must try something from the grill, amazing flavor! The beef tartare was sublime, as was the kingfish sashimi.. Yum! We will be back! Thank you
Everything was perfect! Cozy ambience, attentive & pro staff. Food was divine! For starters we ordered king fish tataki & the calamari. For mains, we ordered the pork loin & the steak. For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake!!! Everything is for the win!!! It’s a highly recommended restaurant to visit! All food was cooked very delicately! To taste it is to believe! Hehehe
I can't rave enough about the food. Went on the weekend and everything was perfect. I've already re booked. The food is exceptionally well priced GIVEN it's superb quality. Service was also well above average and their drinks menu is very reasonable. This is an absolute must in Kensington Street. The calamari, scallops and salmon were the best i've had in Sydney. I wish you every success !! Perfect for a girls lunch, party or business lunch. Yum !
Exceptional. Great modern food in cozy upstairs restaurant with excellent service. I recommend the calamari and the striploin!
Fantastic food and great service
I had a table of ten so we were placed on a large square table that is far better than a long rectangular one to overall conversation and interaction
Service and dish selection advice was brilliant and all the guests were very happy with the night
Thank you Eastside Kitchen
Amazing food and atmosphere apart from the duck. Would love to visit again. Absolutely unreal.
Although the kingfish sashimi is quite pricy considering you get 5 pieces.
I believe it is called eastside bar and grill now.
Absolutely loving the environment. The steak is lovely! Also like the calamari vey good to start with.
I absolutely love the ambience of this restaurant! We got their T-bone special and wagyu sirloin - both were served medium rare and tasted great with the truffle mayo and red jus included, but I found some pieces of the t-bone a bit too chewy. It would’ve been a 5/5 experience but it took an hour for the steaks to come out....
I’ve previously tried the mentaiko pasta and pork with polenta - the pasta was a bit bland but the pork was delicious. I highly recommend getting the fire and ice dessert - super spectacular and lots of variety!
Things to order:
Steak fries + truffle mayo: crispy with with not too much potato, Essence of beef and the mayo was perfectly made
Beef tartare: most beef tartares are slimy and lack enough flavour, but the quality here was preserved
Grilled octopus: nicely charred and not too mushy with a bit of bounce, the sauce was a bit rich but tangy
Sourdough with iberico: freshly baked from Iggy’s, the iberico was nicely cured and had great flavour
Other dishes
Sydney rock oyster: was served warm, and the vinegrette overpowered the taste of the oyster such that I couldn’t appreciate its creaminess
Avoid
Had the whisky sour with lagavulin which was a waste, would’ve been better on the rocks
Service was slow and poor
It’s definitely East meets West at Eastside Kitchen & Bar and it’s done so, so well. At the helm is Chef Stanley Wong and all the dishes we tried were creative and innovative. The ‘Fire & Ice’ dessert is definitely worth ordering if you are dining in a group. It’s quite a show and it means you all get to try a few different desserts. #fusioncuisine #gnocchi #henegg #heirloomtomatoes
I haven't been excited by food in a long while, but after dining here where food is innovative and absolutely delicious, I am renewed. Highlights were the burrata, tartare, any meat item on the menu and ice & fire dessert platter. I would definitely be back.
Aug 2018:
- Nice interior, interesting painting on the wall.
- Kingfish(?) sashimi platter with yuzu sauce and tiger’s milk: highlight of the night, excellent refreshing combination! Not sure if it’s still on the menu. (NB: Had to find out what “tiger’s milk” was - I learnt something new!)
- Duck confit: texture is great but a bit too salty for me. Comfort dish feels. Can’t remember what the other main dish we had but it was quite salty too.
We just came for a drink from the bar, the ambience & wine was great and so was the service, we saw the food come out and they looked amazing, will come back to dine another time
One of the best dining experiences of my life. I absolutely loved the beef tartar, the sashimi and the dessert platter at the end. The sharing plate concept is great for families, corporate parties and the atmosphere is amazing. Not to be missed for sure!
This is a pretty good restaurant with nice ambience and great food. For the entrees, I really liked the oysters which were served with ponzu jelly and tobiko (fish roe). The chicken karaage tasted okay but was a bit on the dry side for me. For mains, we shared the Angus skirt steak, the pork loin and polenta and the barley risotto with mushrooms.
All these dishes were really good.
For dessert, we had the “Fire & Ice” platter which was a visual spectacular. The fire does diminish after a while so take your pics/snaps/videos quickly! There were a whole range of sweet treats on the platter such as macarons, mini doughnuts and icecream. However, I personally liked the coffee jelly pudding and the creme brûlée the best.
I had my birthday dinner with friends here. The service was fantastic, food was quite nice. Look at the presentation, so pretty. I got a free dessert plate since it was my birthday. Overall, very good experience.
New York fusion food grill with White Charcoal called Binchotan Charcoal... can't get any better than this! 🖤 // ↠ @eastsidekitchenandbar
Located at Kensington street dining precinct close to Sydney Train Station and Central Park Mall. This new joint has already make a name for themselves with International Chef Stanley Wong behind all the amazing food creation they offered.
Gotta try to believe it. Especially their signature Fire & Ice Dessert!! ❤️

In Short: Eastside Kitchen + Bar does the impossible task of creating a playful, experimental menu with sophisticated flavours. Come to be surprised, and delighted, with incredible dishes that are never the same, no matter how many times you come!. Eastside Kitchen & Bar – Kensington St. Sydney
The steak and gnocchi were very good. Steak cooked very well and gnocchi was melt in your mouth soft! Wasn’t a big fan of the lamb.. very flavourless. Octopus was good although a tad bit salty. The salad was quite bitter although there was quite a bit of dressing which balanced it out a bit but would’ve rather they used less bitter greens. Fire and ice dessert was more for the theatrics but it was quite fun!
Pleasant service and food...Love the bday desert platter. Some dishes were ordinary.. Like carrots... But the grill items were quite good. Like the octopus and steak.
We booked this restaurant on the 30% off Dimmi special. I've eaten around the area many times and the location of Eastside is so unassuming I never would have walked in if it weren't for Dimmi. Anyway, the food was actually delightful - we loved the entree/sharing plates better than the mains. Here are the dishes I tried:
- Iggy's Sourdough with Browned Butter (4/5): Iggy's bread is QUALITY and the browned butter was decadent when spread on the fresh-out-of-the-oven Iggy's bread. It may sound like a simple dish - but it's simple done well. The bread is perfectly crispy on the crush and soft and fluffy in the middle. Delicious.
- Grilled Peach & Heirloom Salad (4/5): The savoury stracciatella cheese in between the slightly sweet and charred grilled peaches went so well with the refreshing tomatoes and crispy bits of crushed hazelnuts on a bed of creamy pesto. It tasted as good as it looked!
- Roasted Baby Carrot & Homemade Pea Hummus (3.7/5): I thoroughly enjoyed the pea hummus and the roasted baby carrots are nice but nothing special. The hummus definitely made the dish.
- Potato Gnocchi (3/5): The potato gnocchi wasn't the best I've had. The pillows of gnocchi were nice and fluffy but it was lacking flavour and the pumpkin didn't really add much to the dish and was slightly undercooked. Maybe some cheese sprinkled on top or a creamier sauce would have made the dish. It was definitely not saucy enough now that I think about it!
My friends also had the steak tartare which they loved and apparently the Angus beef was ok but nothing too out of the ordinary.
I'd happily return here if they expand their vegetarian options. I did really love that sourdough and browned butter and the peach salad!!
I ordered the mulloway which was fresh and had a great combo of flavours. My friend's hanger steak was also very well done - beautifully tender and flavoursome with well matched accompaniments. The gnocchi however wasn't however such a hit and the portion also wasn't as filling as the other 2 dishes. The ambience was lovely - a little industrial chic yet cosy thanks to the lighting.
We also got the fire and ice dessert platter to share. Most of the items on the board were tasty and it adds a bit of theatrics to the meal.
We did get half off the food menu though so I'm not sure if I would eat there at full price. Perhaps for the first 2 dishes.
Eastside Kitchen and Bar is located centrally on the trendy Kensington street, next to Central station. Whether it is a romantic dinner to celebrate a special occasion with a special person, or even an intimate social catch up then we would suggest reserving a table at Eastside Kitchen and Bar. Relying solely on the white rock Binchotan grill, only the freshest ingredients are used from locally sourced distributors.
Really enjoyed dining at Eastside Kitchen & Bar. It’s in a great location in Kensington street, Chippendale. Beautifully decorated restaurant with great food. I highly recommend the Angus beef tartare and the gnocchi with liquid parmesan pearls - delicious! That said, it is a bit on the pricier side, but well worth it!
We enjoyed their food, the octopus pasta is the best we had through out the years, tho the octopus it self is ordinary. The steak is cooked right but way too salty and the portion is slightly small. The wait staff are very friendly. I think their price is reasonable, worth going.
Alex: Eastside Grill offers a contemporary styling of a New York steakhouse, with warehouse chic vibes, bold wooden/leather furniture and an incredible art piece. It’s music to my ears when the waitress walks behind me and I hear “some bread to start”. The sourdough bread is served with olive oil and Parmesan, a combination that I’ve not ever had. Addictively Moreish with a nice hint of citrus and chilli.

I’m always on the lookout for new steak joints, (I am carnivore, hear me roar) and when the magic words of bone marrow appeared on the menu at the newly opened Eastside Grill, I ended up visiting twice on consecutive weekends with Isaac and Raff. Located on Level 1 of The Old Rum Store (opposite Bistro Gavroche), Eastside Grill is a meatlovers paradise featuring the Japanese Binchotan charcoal grill.
