Loved by the locals of Mascot, and opened at 5:45am everyday, it makes a good pit stop before flying out ✈

Classic is the way to go with the standard pork roll but they also do have a chicken lemongrass roll which is something you don't usually see! Would revisit to try it 😋

Amazing flavour, same quality everytime. I don't mind queuing. Our family loves it. Fresh food, tasty sandwiches. Yum yum yum.... We tried them many years ago when living locally but we still come from our new location.

Every time we go pass here there is always a queue outside which is usually an indication it’s good and we’d have to say we agree, we love the pork rolls from here.

During lunch, there is a long line, so try arrive slightly earlier or go later. Pretty up there in terms of one of the best pork rolls I've eaten in Sydney. Prices have gone up but still one of the cheapest (if not cheapest) lunches around the area!

Pretty good pork rolls, not giving it a 5 star because the marrickville one is still the best one.

The pork is good, carrots are crunchy, but the sauce didnt leave an impression. It’s less spicy than marrickville though so it’s better if you are just looking for a little bit of a kick.

I found the opportunity on the weekend to get out to Hong Ha. I have heard from a few people that the best banh mi is a contest between Hong Ha and Marrickville Pork Roll.

I got out there before 8am and it was a brisk business already. I got my pork roll promptly. What can I say ..... fabulous bread roll - incredibly soft on the inside but so crunchy on the crust. Generous and well balanced filling. Overall, an excellent pork roll.

So, how did it compare against Marrickville Pork Roll? It was great but I’ll give the prize to Marrickville Pork Roll!

They deleted my last review of this place because I'm assuming I mentioned the name of a political party that was popular in Germany around the early 1900's.

Im assuming the auto delete algorithm that deleted my review doesn't even know that the reference that I used of the "thing that must not be named" (now I'm referencing that wizard guy with a scratch on his head who was also referencing the German thing) is actually a reference from another New York based Jewish comedian guy who was making fun of the whole messy German situation.

Anyway that's all way to confusing for Mr Auto correct so I'll just say that the Bahn Mi here is Sydneys best. Ordering can be difficult but unlike my review of some places that have rude staff. Think of ordering at this place as an obstacle to getting a worthwhile product. You will often have to wait 25 seconds because they just sold out of bread and they have to pull a fresh steaming batch out of the oven to make your order. Everything else is spot on. Even the massive long line moves fast. They do use fairly hot birds eye chillies, so if you are a bit soft in this department just ask them to leave it off. Double check before you bite in though because asking them for NO CHILLI ! in no way guarantees they won't put it on.

The best part is that like that episode in that comedy show about a Jewish comedian living in New York where they come across a guy that makes such good soup that it's worth the rude abrupt service from the owner?? Well yeah the people at Hong Ha just like that guy in that episode actually also scream NEXXXTTTTTT!!

I'm not going to bother debating Hong Ha versus Marrickville pork roll because they're both so good that it's really just a matter of personal preference.

I would happily eat from hong ha on a regular basis if I lived in the area but MPR is my local and I'm happy about that.

The bread is perfect and the ratio of ingredients are good. One of the best I've ever had but at $6 it's also kinda more expensive side too - by pork roll standards anyway.

As long you wanted to wait on the long queue, you will have a really pork roll from this shop.
Freshly baked bread, outside is so crispy and crunchy, Yet still nice and soft inside.

- Really good food
The banh mi is delicious with fresh bread rolls. I've tried chicken, pork and meatball, they're all good.
Salad bowls are also tasty with lots of meat and vege included.

- Service is not always the most friendly, but made up for by the food.

- There are often long queues so expect to wait.

- Not as cheap as some Viet places (e.g. Cabramatta), but not expensive for the great food you're getting.

Saw that this place is popular for their banh mi so O decided to stop by. The shop was quite busy around lunchtime on a Sunday. I got the BBQ pork roll, and the meat was tender amd tasty, and the ingredients were fresh and bun was soft yet crispy. I made the mistake of adding chilli which made it really spicy...beware!! I tried picking away the fresh chillis as I could and still manage to finish the roll. I'll definitely opt for no chilli next time!

Hand downs best chicken roll! The roll is what makes this combo, it's fresh crusty but still soft inside. The chilli they use is hot! And if your thinking of going during lunch peak be prepared to wait in the street long line. But it's totally worth it! The prices are increasing for their items but I think it's good value. They do pork, chicken snitzel, rice paper rolls and other bakery goods. Customer service is a miss but the rolls make up for it.

Solid pork roll - the bread is great, crispy and flaky on the outside but still soft on the inside. The meat is fresh and the pate is nice and creamy. If you opt for the chilli, it is actually quite spicy!

$5.50 for a roll is more expensive than other places e.g. in Cabramatta, a pork roll is now cheap as $2.50. When I went, there was a sign saying there would be an increase in prices to $6.00 from 1 May 2017.

Hong Ha is a nice clean bakery serving reasonably priced Vietnamese rolls. I always see the long lines outside, needless to say - it was worth the wait! The chicken roll was fresh, flavoursome and packed with a good kick of chilli. The only negative thing I that I could possibly say is, I didn't appreciate being bitched about in another language.

Hong Ha, there are many haters out there, but there are more lovers. The lines don't lie. I have frequented this Mascot institution many times over the years. Are the rolls as good as everyone says?
There are legendary tales of Bahn mi being sent down to Melbourne airport ground handlers by Sydney airport staff.
For mine this place has the best chicken rolls in Sydney. I do rate pork roll at other places higher. But this is a Hong Ha review.
Although they have new sign, the set up has not changed since it opened. The counter is run by pro's when it comes to assembling bahn mi. Many stallwalts that have been there almost as long as Hong Ha. Your order will always be follewed in response, you want chilli.
It is almost frivolous trying to put forward a custom order, but why would you want to.
Due to the high turn over of product, it is likely you will get a roll just out of the oven with a crunchy outer shell and a warm cloud like softness on the inside, such a difference in texture. This combined with fresh salad, hot seasoned chicken, home made mayo, special sauces and if you choose, a chilli kick. The spring rolls are so bad, they are good. An crisp flakey pastry filled with chicken and cabbage. The only down fall is the amount of oil that comes with each serve.
Gotta try this place at least once.

One of the best Banh Mi spots in Sydney, hands down. There's not much places that can compare, aside from the few in Marrickville, but hands down, Hong Ha has the best bread out of all. It is crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. If you do get it, please make sure you eat it right away because the crunch of the crust is the highlight of the experience.

The price is also very affordable, and the queues of this place is enough testament of the taste. The chicken roll is the one I go for, even though the pork roll are as good. If you are new to this, grab a friend/spouse, get both types and share it. You won't regret.

One of the best & popular Vietnamese Bahn Mi spots in Sydney, this place is always jam packed with people & flavour in their rolls. The lines are always out the door even on a weekday. Their pork roll is tasty with generous smear of pate but personally I love their chicken roll. It must be their secret sauce & mayo that makes it. The rice paper rolls are nothing to write home about but if you go here, the pork & chicken are the top picks! Oh and change from a $5 note? Value as well as a great snack!

Passed by this place a lot and saw that there was always a long queue here. Finally decided to give this place a try. When I ordered the BBQ Pork Roll, I saw that they only had small bits of pork left but he lady who served me knew to get a fresh batch out of the kitchen. I noticed that some of the staff weren't very pleasant but kudos to the ones who managed to pull off a smile. The BBQ Pork Roll was delicious and I like their in-housed baked crispy on the outside and soft on the inside bread. Spring rolls are in a decent size and tasted pretty good as well! I would recommend this place because although the queue was long, the staff are quick to get the line moving fast. Also, the food is very reasonably priced.

A hit and miss at times. On occasions the bread roll can be a little bit stale. The fillings can also be a little bit scarce. However at times when they're made properly with a fresh bread roll they are certainly tasty. Prices are going to rise again next year. Don't know if it's worth the new price rise. There is always a queue at this store so be prepared to line up and wait.

After waiting ten minutes to reach the front of the queue (which I consider a good sign more than an inconvenience), I ordered the bbq pork roll while fighting the urge to order an impressive-looking spring roll on the side. The bread was crunchy but light, and so obviously fresh. Although ticking all the boxes, Marrickville Pork Roll holds it's first place position in my books.

Today is probably the worst day to visit Hong Ha. Normally the short lady wants us to place order one by one. Today she swears at us for doing just that. If only I can swear back in french.

The meat ball rolls are probably the worst ever. No flavors and uncooked. Four rolls going to the bin. We only found out about this two hundred km away from Mascot. Oh boy.

===== Previous Updwte=======
The rolls are served just minutes from the oven. Haven't seen any other Pork Roll joint that does this. The fillings are yummy as long as you stick to the standards (Chicken, pork or dim sim). Lately we prefer dim sim and chicken rolls. Please be aware that they use birds eye chili which is very spicy.

Service on the other hand is not that great. Despite having to wait for a long time, sometimes you still have to put up with an impatient lady who would bite your head off if you are not decisive in what you are going to have. Sometimes she mixes up your order so please double check before you eat. Last thing you want is your kid running around like a headless chick after tasting their first birds eye chili.

Bottomline : Probably the greatest Pork Roll in Sydney however the service is not always great

Hong Ha's did not disappoint!!
A friend told me about these chicken rolls you just HAD to have. I'm like ok, I love chicken, but how different can a chicken roll be.
The flavours were ahhhhhmazing! Shredded chicken on a warmed baguette style bun with a special chilli paste, coriander ( which I love) and all the other fresh Vietnamese veges! There was w honey soy type sauce which, using words will never do justice, was to dye for!
I went on a rainy Saturday morning and the line was around the corner!
If you have nothing to do today, go! There is nowhere to eat but there is a cute little park 5 mins walk up the road..... Enjoy!

Passing by Botany road noticed a huge line in front of this bakery so I stopped by to try much hyped Vietnamese rolls. I waited about 10mins and ordered chicken roll and pork roll with chilies. My husband had pork roll and he really liked it and I loved chicken roll and I think the chili is definitely a key to its winning flavor. Taste is pretty great even if you don't account the amazingly cheap price. You can not get better deals anywhere else! (6 nuggets at MacDonald cost more!) If you are in the area definitely give it a try. UPDATE - bought their rice paper rolls  -  a pack of prawns and a pack of chicken and they are absolutely fantastic! They are super fresh and individually wrapped. Salad inside is so crunch and refreshing. Im totally hooked!! Also if you buy 2 packs instead of one its $5 instead of $6...Amazing! Highly recommend if you love Vietnamese rice paper rolls!

Much talk and hype has been made of Hong Ha in the battle for Sydney's best pork roll. I came in with high expectations having been dazzled by Marrickville Pork Roll and left somewhat confused. The quality of the pork roll is above average but it needn't be in conversations of Sydney's top. The pickles weren't pickled enoigh and they skimped on the radish, pate and butter.

Good old Banh Mi. Hong Ha is one of my go to places for Banh Mi (Vietnamese Pork Roll).
90% of the time you will need to queue up to this place, but you don't have to worry as the stuff here are very efficient and will get the line moving in no time.

Due to the popularity of this place (pork, chicken, meatball etc), they are baking rolls non stop therefore giving you a fresh warm crunchy roll each time. The pate they use is not your regular dark grey one but instead a reddish one which I think distinguishes these rolls from the other, plus it's delicious.

For some reason that day i decided to walk from Botany to Redfern and on the way made a quick pitstop into the infamous Hong Ha. In fact there was a customer talking to his friend with excitement telling him he's in the bread shop. Anyways I didn't kick up any fuss and waited in a short line. The customer service is as expected... What you like? Chilli? $5 please... that was pretty much our exchange of conversation. I ended up ordering the chicken roll because my wife convinced me that's their best option... the chicken was ok.. it was dry but it wasnt juicy... the mayo was great.. well whereever I actually had some in the roll... it wasn't evenly distributed. For $5 it was a decent lunch... but I wouldn't say Hong Ha makes the best pork rolls in sydney.... theres nothing different to how they make it that makes it any better....

A and I have driven the straight road that connects Sydney and Canberra a few times now and I can confidently say it is always made better when we stock up on Banh Mi at Hong Ha in Mascot for our ride home. By the time we’re halfway between Sydney and Canberra, we’re both in need of a break and some food and Hong Ha’s banh mi always hits the spot. A’s been frequenting Hong Ha for many years now, from back when she lived in Sydney. She had a craving on one trip and asked if we could do a quick detour to Mascot before hitting the M1. There’s typically a line outside Hong Ha from about 11.30am. Don’t be deterred though – the line moves exceptionally quick. Within 10 minutes, A and I have our Banh Mi – pork ($5) for A and BBQ pork ($5) for me. Halfway home, A and I stop to eat and there’s complete silence in the car while we’re eating (besides the crunch of the crusty bread!). Hong Ha’s banh mi is the perfect mix of sweet, savoury, sour

I haven't tried the pork rolls or any of the others because that is not what you come here for - it is the chicken rolls for sure! Meat balls. Its just a hole in the wall and I rate this a good option to grab a quick Vietnamese style chicken roll. I have tried all the rolls including pork and bbq pork, chicken and crumbed chicken and the mighty meat ball (not tried the vegetarian option). IMO the meat ball is the King of all and of course you must have chillil. The spring rolls can be a little oily but always delicious and worth the 200 calories even the Dim Sims are awesome. Also available are salad box's if you don’t want to carb up on the bread. Luckily I work close by so it’s my lunch a few times each week.

The premier pork roll shop in the Eastern Suburbs. They also have a shop in Bondi Beach. They serve the traditional pork roll on a crispy Vietnamese baguette with pate, mayo, coriander, onion, shallot, carrot. Also alternatives to this like a crispy pork roll; crackling pork! They also do meatball subs, lemongrass chicken and rice noodles bowls, Spring rolls and dimsims. Easy parking in the lot behind Botany Road. Queues get a bit long here so it helps to order ahead or go early; They're open from 6am.
