The only place you can get truffle cheese fondue! The restaurant is quite hard to find but so worth it. I had the truffle cheese fondue for myself and my boyfriend had the four texture fondue burger board. I’d say the truffle cheese fondue is definitely for 1 person even tho it says it’s to share but maybe that’s just me LOL. The service here was immaculate and the food was top quality. I love the atmosphere here, super romantic!
Spectacular location with some great options for vegetarians, GPO is a great date venue. Its confusing to find this place at first, but once you get here the experience is great. No need to reserve for a Friday evening, this place is usually empty. They have some great staff, which suggest good wine pairing to go with the cheese boards or the fondue. We had the Truffle Cheese Fondue, which was decent, however, some of the condiments with it were off (like artichokes). I would prefer more bread or breadsticks instead.
Really nice cheesy dishes. The restaurant ambiance is very fancy without being pretentious. Had the cauliflower broccoli vegetable bake with three cheeses. It was really good, full of cheesy flavour, baked really well. Service was very nice and friendly, while being super professional. Prices are high, but not ridiculously so. Will be back to try the other lunch specials
Went with some girls at work for lunch. It took about 1 hr 10mins from end to end. The walk was approx 5mins. We ordered the italian cheese platter, mac and cheese, cauliflower veggie bake and some sort of anti pasti platter. We asked the wait staff to pair our meal with wine,he paired a bottle of white which was enough for 5 and I got a glass of red. There were 6 of us.
Highly recommend the cauliflower veggie bake. The mac and cheese was good, but the italian sausage over power the cheese. We loved the italian cheese board, truffle cheese was incredible, there was a soft goats cheese and a blue. I dont usually like blue but this was quite nice. The board included breads and fruits etc. It was well thought out. The anti pasti board was alright, you can give this a miss tbh.
Really enjoyed the wine. We were all pretty full and ended up paying $33 each which is not bad at all for nice food. Next time i will have to try the fondue it looked fantastic.
Service was great as well the waiter was softly spoken but quite knowledgeable.
We are big cheeseheads and loved it here. If you like cheese and wine you will love this place.
For cheese and wine lovers!!
I came here on Saturday night and I was amazed at the service provided and the knowledge of the wines!
My friend and I chose the truffle cheese fondue platter and it was pretty nice. We also chose the sparkling wine to match.
Great ambience and good for catching up with friends that love wine! Will definitely be back!
One of the few places in sydney where you can get a cheese fondue! As an avid cheese lover and fanatic, I knew instantly in my body and soul that I HAD to try the Cheese and wine room. The cheese fondue was actually cheese & truffle (even better in my opinion), it was a very genius serving for two which left us stuffed and extremely satisfied! We also got entrees with our meal and wine pairings to match. The service is also excellent and you always feel like you’re being attended to. Had a very memorable meal and will be back whenever i have a cheese fondue itch I need to scratch.
A Hidden gem in the depths of Martin place in the CBD of Sydney is the GPO cheese and wine room. Enter via the old post office building, head down the stairs and you will find your cheese wonderland. Once inside the cheese room, to the left is a cheese counter and the rest of the room is filled with bottles of wine. This could be considered heaven for some and probably is.
Cheese are the BEST you can have around Sydney and the staff were really knowledgeable and helpful. They are really attentive and it's never hard to get their attention. Atmosphere is excellent, perfect for a date night.
Excellent antipasto and cheese boards.
We were a group of two and ordered an antipasto board to start which had two cheeses (Locheilan and Gouda), sundried tomatoes, prosciutto, green and black olives, chorizo. Surprisingly filling. We also order the truffle fondue with matching white and red wines. The fondue cheese wasn't as truffle-infused as I had hoped but the board together was delicious! There were prawns, prosciutto, chorizo, roasted potatoes amongst other things.
Service is good. The staff are quick, friendly and knowledgeable.
Ambiance is great. Beautiful sandstone building and great mood lighting. Can be intimate or for a larger group.
I would come back.
Best cheese and wine combo I've had in Sydney. Staff are very knowledgeable and will find the perfect drop for your palette. I actually discovered one of my favourite cheeses here, creamy taleggio. The place is dimly lit and has a quiet, beautiful ambience. I'd suggest one comes here for an intimate evening.
I could not fault the food or wine. They were impeccably presented and efficiently served. GPO is definitely deserving of a 5/5 rating and plenty more visits.
