Randomly stumbled across this place and decided to walk in and it was honestly a great decision. The mushroom gnocchi was beautiful and the meat just cooked to perfection. I mean presentation could've been improved a little for the meat but this thing was so succulent and juicy, I just can't complain. The low light environment is perfect for dates. Staff were friendly and prices were mediocre, about $110 for this meal.
Walking past here on a Friday evening, we were lucky enough to get a table for 7 people with a last minute cancellation. Things are looking up! We started with a limoncello like cocktail to start the meals. The ambience was lovely, service was good and they were sneaky to bring out the slow roasted prime rib when we were um and ahing over the menu. Highlights: the food - no complaints from the table and was told the calamari was the best of our party have ever tasted - high praise! Lowlights: struggling to find any...
My fave steak place in Sydney. I have been 3 or 4 times now and have had reasonably consistent experiences. I have to deduct a star because service is slow.
Made the mistake of coming for lunch on a work day. We turned up at 12 and were literally the only diners there. We ordered straight away. It took 1 hour to receive the food from the time of ordering. Also, the most recent time I went I had the wedges which were way too salty. It was salty to the point it was obvious there had been a mishap in the kitchen which is disappointing given the price point. We were already running late with lunch so no time to send them back.
Lovely cosy basement restaurant with exposed brick walls and tall back leather chairs serving steak and a range of other dishes including fish and pasta with an extensive (albeit somewhat pricey) wine list. I thoroughly enjoyed the 300g prime rib cooked medium rare that was melt in your mouth tasty. My wife had the Barramundi which was top notch also. Sides of twice cooked potatoes, broccolini and the gorgeous bread rounded out lovely meal washed down with a glass of red and a beer. Service was friendly but a little slow on the drinks whereas we did not receive our second glass of wine hence 4 rather than 5 stars but we did really enjoy our meal here.
We had charcoal grilled king prawn for starter, it was good but definitely had better ones else where. For main we ordered fillet (medium rare) and wagyu rump(medium), both grilled to perfection, hubby said it was the best steak he had this year. We both liked the wagyu rump more, it’s more flavorful and very tender.
After hearing so many good things about this place, we finally made a reservation and thought we should try it out. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is amazing. Every table was full of people, laughing, conversating, drinking. The music was appropriate and the restaurant is very dark with lamps on each table. It creates the perfect vibe.
We were half an hour late but the staff were still very accommodating and placed us on a table straight away. Our waiter set the table and gave us our menus and took the drinks order.
The Long Island Ice Tea w pineapple juice and Strawberry Daiquiri was delicious, as expected. I tried their Strawberry Sunset mocktail which was very refreshing as well. We ordered the Fried Calamari as a starter (amazing) but didn't manage to get a picture because I was so hungry. For main we ordered the 1kg Rib Eye on the Bone and because my partner likes his steak well done, it took over an hour (which we were fine with). Our friends also ordered it medium.
While we were waiting for our mains and sides to come out, they offered us fresh bread and "truffle" butter to snack on. The steaks were probably the best I've ever had and the sides were not too bad either.
The whole bill came to $501 but was definitely worth it. Only reason why I'm not giving a 5 star rating is because they charged us for 3 bottles of still water at $11 each. The waiter kept refilling our cups with water without even asking if we wanted any. If I knew each bottle was $11, I would have just ordered another mocktail... $33 for bottled water is a bit ridiculous. That should be free. Other than that, I'll be returning again probably for a special occasion or for my next birthday dinner.
They have david blackmore wagyu steak here! Yum! Cooked to perfection. Service was good and some of the other appetisers were also quite appetising.. but wine is overpriced and the side of veges quite bland and undercooked.. chairs altho comfy are also being quite jaded...hence the score of 4 and not 5.
If you love meat then you need to get yourself here ... Thick cut meats from Angus to wagyu all cooked perfectly with delicious sides. Even better you can book via Dimmi and get 50% off the food bill on selected time and dates. Even full price is worth it ... Been here 3 times already.
Basement restaurant love the atmosphere and lighting. service was really good we stayed an hour over their closing time on a Sunday night but they let us finish our drinks and dinner. Will be back for this Sydney experience.
The Cut is a renowned and award winning steakhouse located at The Rock.
I love the condiments and the steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare. Wish the fries could be thinner like Rockpool shoestring fries.. but i enjoyed it thoroughly. Great service too!
The cut bar and grill is a great place if you’re looking for some great food for dinner. The steak ordered was superb and the service offer d was second to none.
Fantastic steak, great wine and very pleasant service. I had the 300g 4 hour slow cooked rib eye, and it just melted in my mouth. The entrees and sides were very good as well. Great venue for a business lunch.
Not bad but as other reviewers have pointed out, everything is too salty.
Service was pretty ordinary.
Wagyu beef was good but the Special wasn't that special.
The Cut Bar and Grill turned out to be a great experience. The venue is rustic and beautiful. Service was good and staff friendly. Quality steak cooked to perfection and value for money. Great experience and the rage perfect.
My partner and I are red meat lovers and this discovery upon a hidden gem in Sydney rocked our world. From the representation of the wide array of steaks to deliverance of meat to mouth to stomach this restaurant is no doubt the best steak I've had to date. Ambience is secluded intimacy, service was helpful not intrusive, wines were complimentary not drowning and entree's were excessive not always necessary. We will be back!
Went to The Cut for the first time last week. The services was good, although it was obvious that our waiter was very new. We received complimentary breads. The meals were great we ordered sirloin with mash potato and gnocchi with roasted vegetables... the food was outstanding! I will definitely be going back!
Great service. Beautiful food. Very knowledgeable staff who were very attentive. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be back in the future....
The historical charm of The Rocks take you back to colonial Australia where the culinary spectrum was confined to native game, vegetables washed down with rum and beer. So having a steakhouse amongst the quaint dimly lit alleys and cobblestone streets makes sense and is an experience that transcends the food itself. The Cut accentuates this ambience by letting exposed brick walls and heavy wooden beams feature in the restaurant.
The menu is extravagent blending old with new in a way that makes sense. Avruga caviar is used in several dishes and protein is naturally sourced from the best places around the country.
The Rottnest Island scallops were seared perfectly paired with a small scampi and topped with Avruga. It was fitting prelude for the mains.
The Bone in Fillet featured a prime cut of beef that was ordered medium rare but arrived slightly on the rare side. Nevertheless, the steak quality unquestionable but the peppercorn sauce was served too light and runny for my liking. The Wagyu Sirloin did not come with a recommendation like many steak restaurants these days which advocates a medium cooking so that the fat could emulsify creating maximum impact in flavour for the steak. However, it was served medium rare as requested and the meat was still butter soft.
The service was friendly and attentive from the manager to the staff and ambience was romantic enhanced by elegant seating and decor.
Took me twice to realise this place is for tourists.
steak (it was an 1kg rib eye) came out cold at our first visit. Few month later I decided to give it another go as my friends kept saying how good this place is. To be honest it wasn't bad, but for what you are paying you are better off with other choices.
Was with two friends in town for the night and after a couple of drinks in the Rocks looked for a restaurant. Friends wanted a steak so gave this place a go on a busy Saturday night with no reservation. Hostess really friend and after a short wait at the bar they had a table for us. Good service and fantastic steaks.
Will definitely go back and would defiantly recommend.
Oh and the meat cleaver door handles were a cool touch
When people talk about the best steakhouse in Sydney, you will always hear The Cut Bar and Grill as one of them. That’s why when a group of friends from overseas came to visit and wanted to try the famous Australian steak, I dared myself to take them there. It was sort of a gamble for me as I personally haven’t tried it before and I would really hate to have over-hyped and overpriced steakhouse.
We came here on a busy night during the Christmas holidays, the place was buzzing, whilst a lot of other venues were closed. I had the duck and my partner had the lamb cutlets. We were blown away. Both were cooked to perfection! The sides were worth the extra expense, (shoestring fries and mushrooms - but with plenty more to choose from.) Garnishings and sauces were amazing. Initially we were sat at the bar - where wait service was lackluster, but after some persistence we were moved onto a table and found the service here to be impeccable. The bartender was very knowledgable. I would come here again.
We made a very anticipated visit to "The Cut Bar and Grill" tonight in The Rock's for a dinner with our amazing Mum.
The booking was made months ago and parking paid for in advanced so it's safe to say we were pretty excited and had high expectations especially with all the reviews we read and hype surrounding the resturant.
Firstly. It is a absolutely beautiful resturant! The set up and layout really give you the high end dining feel. The staff where fantastic! And really new the menu and wine pairings and made great food suggestions.
The price didn't matter for this visit so we ordered what ever we felt like. Roast duck.. Lamb chops and Sirloin steak with sides of roasted cauliflower and sautéed mushrooms.
However a few thing that let the experience down was the time we waited for the food. Although being literally one of the first to be seated 8 tables received their food before us.. Some had more then 6 people we had 3. When the food arrived the portions were tiny! Maybe that's just my lack of exposure to this type of dining but that was a shame because we were all starving by this point.
The taste of the food was ok. Nothing to rave about. Cooked well and seasoned well however easily could have gotten the same from another nice resturant for a quarter of the price.
Overall we paid $230.
We definitely paid for the experience and a lovely one! but that was mainly due to the atmosphere and service. The food unfortunately didnt leave a lasting impression.
Would come back but only if someone else was paying hehehe
Was a lovely experience. Great ambience and feel. For entree we had the Sydney rock oysters followed by scallops and for main I had the rump steak. The entree was delicious. The steak was cooked medium rare and to perfection. Knife sliced through like butter. There was just something missing with the steak. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. However the cocktails here alone are worth the visit.
Fantastic, the David Blackmore Wagyu sirloin was absolutely amazing. Best steak ever tasted in my life. Orgasmic! All other dishes were amazing including surf and turf, oysters and charcuterie board. Service was outstanding as well.
I ordered a Crap cake as entree but it didn't surprise me. The taste of crab was not very strong and the freshness of it has been covered by other elements in the dish. Had their signature: 4 hour slow roast fi wagyu beef. The meat tastes amazing!!! Sauce was light and did not cover the original taste of the beef but just a bit too oily with too much fat lol. Liked the cauliflower and silverbeet for sides. Desserts were alright.
Widely recognised as one of the best steakhouse's in Sydney, The Cut Bar & Grill features a range of the finest cuts of Australian prime beef alongside contemporary dishes of the freshest local seafood, matched with an impressive wine list. A delicious little creamy morsel to prep our already ravenous appetite. The goats cheese was light as air and brimming with aromatic flavour from the truffle.
They've got the ambience and drinks list down pat. The cut is my go to place when I feel like some red meat. I've been several times and have never been disappointed. Staff are knowledgable and friendly.
Taking the motif of a well polished dungeonesque basement, The Cut was my last stop in Sydney, but they'll be more on that later. The menu at The Cut is limited, however it does offer a number of cuts in different beef grades, which if done well is all you really need to offer, it was somewhat like a showcase of skill and produce.
Service was excellent. I had the 200g wagyu steak and it was soft and tender. You'll definitely look at steaks differently after eating here. Sides were mediocre, very ordinary. I found the mushrooms very over powering, took away from the flavours of the steak. I had the deconstructed sticky date pudding for dessert and it was delicious.
The Cut is excellent. Fantastic steak place, very nice cocktails. Staff very friendly and yet professional too. Liked the atmosphere, and dessert was as incredible as the steaks. Definitely go again.
Came here for lunch the other day after a walk along the Harbour Bridge area... The restaurant ambience was nice and quiet ... service was professional ... -- The Food -- Pork Belly -- Nice serving size. Crispy Skin. Tender meat. What more can I ask for?! Done nicely considering this IS a steakhouse. Steak with chips -- ordered medium rare Steak was nice, tender and juicy. Probably cooked to medium rather than medium rare I love the shoe- string chips I would definitely want to come back to try their signature 4 hour Slow Roast. Lunch deals are cheaper than dinner. So if want a taste of The Cut then come for lunch ! Happy Wednesday ! Mid- Week!
I had heard of Cut Bar & Grill a few weeks ago from a long lost friend whom I caught up with at Chur Burger . Following this catch up I had to look up some reviews and see what the word on the street was. Word was that it was expensive and generally most people loved it with the exception of a few militant diners. I am a huge fan of beef and have been since my first experience at Prime located in the GPO Building at Martin Place in Sydney. Consistently voted Sydney and Australia’s best steak restaurant for the past 14 years, Cut Bar & Grill would definitely need to pull out a spectacular performance for me to choose this as my favourite. Great location and great look. Located next to the Arglye, you walk in off the street and down some stairs in to dimly lit restaurant/bar with a kitchen behind glass to the left of the entrance....
The steak looked delicious and was simply presented with some vine ripened tomatoes and came with a béarnaise sauce. The fillet was a perfectly cooked medium rare and was very, very tender. I think I could have cut through it with a butter knife.
After having a look at the actual dessert online I have to admit it does look quite enticing and probably a multitude of times better than this taster
The pork loin was Kyle's favourite, his reasoning being the crisp skin and that it was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. I preferred the pork belly, given my massive love for crackling and fatty, deliciously tender pork. As compliments, the sardalaise potato and apples contrasted the pork well. However, while the mustard butter was a nice addition to the plating, it did not have much flavour.
I love steak and can never resist a good piece of steak, when my friend told me she wanted to shout me for my belated birthday dinner at The Cut Bar and Grill I was so excited! She said the 4 hours slow roast Wagyu was to die for, and it didn’t disappointed me at all. The restaurant is located at heart of the rocks right next to the Sake restaurant, parking there can be quite hectic so best to dine in early or catch a public transport.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
+4.5
The Cut’s new chef Grant Croft produced the best overall set of dishes: scallops with mushrooms, peas and bone marrow, and braised beef brisket with liquorice, spinach and carrots...
Best Steak I have ever had. Try the signature steak and you will fall in love.
I will be back for more
Pricey but worth it. My family here came for an early dinner as that was the only time available, but as we were dining early, we were well looked after by the friendly staff.
As you walk in, you noticed that the restaurant is dimly lit, which creates a romantic ambience but makes it difficult to read the menu (for my parents). We all decided to go for their signature cut of meat which were cooked according to our liking. We also shared broccoli, mushrooms and onion rings and while they were all nice we all loved the onion rings the most!!
My mum and I decided to get a dessert each and as there was the chocolate festival on the weekend, they had a special chocolate soufflé which my mum went for and loved. I had trouble deciding between the cherry ripe or the Turkish delight but with the recommendation from staff, I went for the cherry ripe. While it was a nice dessert (not too sweet and refreshing), I don't think it was worth the $14. The restaurant gave us amuche bouche along with a palate clenser before dessert which was a refreshing sorbet.
While pricy (we also share a Pinot from Malbourough) the steak and sides were delicious, well cooked and worth the price we paid for. Lovely staff and serivce.
Really enjoyable evening. Needed a steak fix and decided to go to the Cut after reading positive reviews.
Ordered the 4 hour Wagyu rib eye roast with some sides of broccolini and bone marrow. The beef was melt in mouth delicious. The broccolini was okay but the bone marrow was so-so. We ordered the chefs cheesecake and the Turkish delight. Both were delightful and one of the best desserts we've eaten for a while.
Would definitely come back next time we are in Sydney.
Pricey but yum. Went here with my family and two of us had the slow roasted wagyu which was very nice and soft, it practically melted in my mouth. My only complaint would be that it was fattier than I'm used to. About 1/4 of my cut was fat and so was my brother's. The rest of the family was content as well and the oysters were great. The wine was personally poured by the wait staff every time and we were given an introduction on the menu/types of steak before we ordered, same as the other tables. Our coats were also taken and stored for us at the start, but we had to wait a bit for them to be returned at the end. The decor and atmosphere was very dark and gloomy, would appeal to those who enjoy this sort of ambience.
Yes, yes, yes. Grab someone laid-back & wallow together in this mellow den of hedonism.
Decent. Nice steak, nice wine. I was not blown away, I had a rib eye and side of scampi. Service was fine. Had a bottle of wine at the bar to appreciate the surroundings before hand with a couple o ladies and another at the table. Loud would be the best description, complemented by sandstone and leather in what is effectively an underground cellar (pretty nice). I had been assured this place was sensational, but I think my expectations left me a little disappointed. I was invited again to dine with a paying friend and passed it up. It ain't bad but it ain't special.
One of the best steak restaurants in Sydney. I've been here for my birthday 2 years in a row and have immensely enjoyed both times, but they outdid themselves the second time around. The free bread was amazing- may just be the best complimentary bread I've had at any Sydney restaurant. Food was flawless and divine, as was the service. Will come back time and time again.
Service was great. Food was fantastic. Atmosphere was great. Drinks were stupidly overpriced. There is no need to charge $20 for 30ml of Sailor Jerry rum.
The slow cooked rib is great. The sides while great are big enough for 2-3 people.
I have dined here twice, both times I'm stuck by the deliciousness of a well cooked simple piece of meat. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? I'd say so. First visit I had a filet, second time had the trolly cut (I forget what it's called). Both very good. Sides are delicious but extra, and the wine was paired perfectly with the help of the sommelier. I also really like the decor and atmosphere, makes me feel like I'm hanging with really rich cattle farmers... loaded but hard working at the core.... perfectly balanced between unpretentious and posh. Highly recommend
Friendly staff, amazing flavour!. Kudos to the chief, wonderful flavour in the pasta could not fault at all!! This place is expensive and does attract very rude patrons however food is flavoursome, décor is wonderful and the staff are more than helpful. Really enjoyed my dining experience but would only go on a special occasion due to price.
An amazing experience from start to finish.
As you enter through the curtain and walk down the stairs through to the mysterious, dimly lit & moody room it sets the scene for a nice intimate experience.
You are met by the friendly host who introduces you to the staff that seat you at your table. You are then greeted by your friendly waitstaff.
Whilst we were perusing the menu a friendly waiter came around with their cart showcasing their special slow cooked prime rib to which we ordered alongside the ricotta gnocchi as it looked devine when I saw it from another table. We also ordered oysters to start & the pumpkin & green sides.
The prime rib steak is cooked more on the med-rare side and was slightly a little too rare for my liking, having said that I still enjoyed it.
The gnocchi was also good but had quite a lot of squash.
For dessert we shared the apple tart which was so crispy & tasty! It didn’t look very appealing but it was so good!
Service was very friendly, professional & attentive & our glasses were always topped up without having to ask.
This is a great place for an intimate dinner or even in a group to which they cater for.
Overall a great experience & would recommend to try this place out.
This was a great night out - it's great restaurant for steaks. It's not the best quality steaks, but still pretty good. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. It's not great value, but it's what you can expect from the Rock Pool Group - a little bit of manufactured rarity. There's a cart of meat they push around and try and sell you a cut off of that meat: don't feel pressured to buy this, think of it not as a recommendation, but more as a poor wait staffer forced to put on a spectacle; nod, smile and politely decline to move past that distraction. The sides were great and the atmosphere was not as noisy as I expected. The space is intimate and dark; the wait staff were knowledgable and friendly.
We planned to have nice dinner on Saturday evening at this haven of carnivore in Sydney and arrived a bit early than our booked time. The service from floor staff was efficient and good but nothing to be amazed of, considering the fine-dining price level of the place. The ambience was nice and relaxing with darker lighting, so a good setting for couple's date nights.
We ordered charcuterie of wagyu bresola, jamon serrano w/ manchego cheese and QLD king prawns grilled with butter as starter dishes and they're all good, especially the QLD prawns which we think the best dish of the evening. The main dishes were their signature slow-cooked prime rib and the toothfish and prawn cooked in nice butter sauce. Both dishes were good but the prime-rib was a bit too generous in portion of 300 grams especially considering it was a rich, fatty cut. I wish it could come in smaller cut of 200 grams. The toothfish was an excellent dish and in a perfect portion though. We also ordered wines by the glass and they have quite extensive options in their beverage menu.
Their prices are a bit on the expensive side even considering their good settings and good quality of food ingredients. In addition, customers also still have to pay stupid 1 to 1.5% credit card surcharge which is quite annoying in the fine-dining setting.
An institution for steak in Sydney. Good char on all their savory dishes, but they also play the slow cooking game well with a beautifully slow cooked prime rib available on my visit. Surprisingly the dessert was also perfectly executed, the classics of tiramisu and creme brulee are played straight and are a winner as well.
While this place is known for great steak, its not all they do!! Had some fresh oysters to start with as well as pippis yum!! Not only is food great, so to were the cocktails and mocktakls and of course the service is impeccable. The dimly lit dining room with large tables gives it such a grand feel.. so even though its quite open you don't feel like you're in the space of other diners. Will definitely be back to try the other menu items.
A bit of a hit and miss here. We loved most of the dishes however we also didn’t like some of them.
You walk down the stairs and open the red curtain to reveal the dimly lit restaurant. When you get ushered to your table the chairs are these huge things which look real inviting. Reminds us of a Vikings dining room.
We order everything that yells out on the menu and a little more.
We absolutely love the grilled baby octopus, so juicy and tender. The wagyu rump was the star of the night, melting in your mouth kind of goodness. The shoestrings fries were perfect and the creamed spinach with gruyere cheese was a surprise. You can never go wrong with oysters to start. And it was a great end with the silky smooth creme brulee.
We didn’t enjoy the signature cut which was a slow cooked rib off the bone wagyu, this was unevenly cooked, the outside was delicious, however the centre was very rare and chewy. This was carted around to each table on a trolley so you could see the whole chunk of meat and then it was carved to each order. The beef carpaccio was also a bit of a miss, not sure about the flavours that were going on in there.
All in all it was pretty average, for the price it should be well above average. However we are sure we will return in the future, the wagyu rump saved the day.
One of the best steak house in Sydney!
A variety of meats on offer, the also have seafood and heaps of sides available.
Bonus: Book on The Fork AU to get 50% off on all food.
They have a full bar with great service and delicious food. Let say I have been here about 6 times and they are always a good feed with the discount.
The wagyu and Angus is a must order, tender juicy meat.

I was a little frustrated about not being able to reach the restaurant when I called so I walked to the restaurant since I was nearby and gave a bit of attitude. I got an old fashioned to settle the mood and open the taste buds and I was in heaven from there. The food was delicious, steak was very well cooked and a fantastic cut, the wine (2013 Rockford ‘Rod and Spur’ Shiraz Cabernet) was a perfect choice and thankfully was available by the glass. The dessert was fantastic and really finished everything off well.
It wasn't a small bill for one but it was definitely a fantastic experience and I would definitely go back again. Thank you for a great night.
