Review Sushi On Stanley - Sydney

Close to sushi in Japan itself! Also, quite affordable. Recommend visit to try food Japanese cousin
Leonie Affinito
Sushi is good & really fairly priced but do not order if you’re in a rush. Ordered 1 veggie set and have been waiting 45mins & still waiting.. Update; they left half my order next to their sit in water refill area, tempura part & rice was soggy & cold. Threw out, sushi part was good but overall we waited 70minutes for something that half was inedible. Probably won’t be back for a while. Shame, because the quality sitting in, is really good!

One of the best sushi places I've been to. Everything was prepared perfectly and was really fresh and tasty. I ordered, spicy dumplings and the spice level was perfect for what I like personally, salmon sushi rolls, teriyaki chicken rolls, a medium sashimi plate, karaage chicken salad, and miso soup. No complaints. The staff are very busy preparing and taking orders so don't be shy to approach them for what you need. Great sushi experience. I'll get photos next time 👌🏼

Been coming to sushi on Stanley for many years now and l have only been disappointed once in all those years and all those meals!! Top quality and mouth watering food!! Highly recommend you come try their bento boxes or sushi rolls!! Yummmmmmmmmm

Great service and lovely food. Very affordable and a more authentic Japanese vibe to the place. Never been to japan but it has that vibe none the less. I imagine this is what it’s like there. I love the rustic food and you can bring your own booze. Highly recommend this place 😊❤️

It's always packed in the night but authenticity wise, you can't expect much. It was very difficult communicating with the staff since they were all distracted polking on their phones and when they did turn their attention on you, they couldn't understand you anyway. Would I return? Nah... Sushi train in Oxford Village are so much better, not to mention the staff are actually Japanese and offer helpful and friendly customer service. Don't waste your money here...

I ordered two salmon salads (one cooked salmon at $17.60 and the other sashimi at $15.20) as well as a salmon roll ($5.60) and a spicy tuna roll ($7.20) through Uber eats. I was EXTREMELY disappointed at the quality of food and the portions. The salads were basically a garden salad from A packet with about 5 small pieces of salmon. I counted two thin slices of cucumber and a couple of shreds of carrot in one salad, apart from that, nothing else but lettuce!!!! Also, the sushi rolls were tiny!!! There were 5 mini pieces of each which would amount to probably half of a normal sushi roll you buy at any good Japanese. I could not believe my eyes. I will never order from sushi on Stanley again.

Sushi for great value. Excellent selection of sushi and other Japanese food (appetisers, Bento sets, teriyaki, etc). Place is a bit small so be prepared to wait, or it people generally get takeaway. Also, portions are on the smaller side so if you are used to bigger portions, you might need to order more. IMHO, value is on the teriyaki Bento sets, and make sure your add some 50 cents or $1 single "sushi rolls".
Maxence Peillon
So you order your food and the unpleasant cashier (she forgot to smile because she probably hates her job really bad) tells you in the rudest way that it’s a $ 20 minimum for card payment (when the meal combo is $14.0 . This is a total rip off and another way for tax evasion.

Although there’s bit of queue at lunchtime, I frequent this place whenever I want to grab some sushi. It’s cheap, fast and satisfies me. My go to is usually salmon, tuna and soft shell crab rolls and I’m never disappointed.
Food Baaraati
A must go to place for sushi. They have the best sushi in sydney. The ambience of the place is amazing and the services are the best thing about the place. Must visit.

I ordered a chicken karaage salad. I was a bit disappointed because the chicken wasn't crispy or fried the way I expected it to be. However the serving size was still generous and fulfilling and it still tasted nice :) I found the prices to be very good and am still willing to go again to try something else.

Small restaurant on Stanley st with great value for money. Usually very busy during peak hours so would suggest getting in early or going during non peak hours. Personally love the chicken teriyaki and cucumber roll and its a bargain for its size. Also the salmon is on point, both raw and aburi. Can tell the chefs take care buying and prepping the best fish. Definitely one of the best value to cost ratios in Sydney.
Jose Luis Rodriguez
Great value for money without compromising the size and flavour of the food. Very small place but the hard-working staff try their best to accommodated everyone nicely
Ann
Been there for a dinner after work. Turned out nothing special about it. Just ordinary sushi n small Japanese dishes. The price wasn't cheap.
Dreamer Down Under
Very average experience here to be honest. Nothing too outstanding. But great value indeed. I would skip the usual sashimi and sushi and go for the small dishes. They are much better and something different. The sashimi was very average, like what you get from a takeaway shop in the foodcourt. On the other hand, the small dishes such as the salmon taco, marinated tuna and tuna namban was good. Service is average too.
Eunifoodie
Affordable and delicious! Very small restaurant but serves traditional tasting Japanese food! The spicy salmon salad is super good! Would definitely come again
Ieatthings
If you like udon noodles, definitely come here! My friends and I ordered the Plain Udon, Chicken karaage and King Prawn Tempura for our entrees. Overall the three entrees were really well cooked.<br/> <br/>On the other hand, the sushi was extremely mediocre. We pre-ordered the sushi platter, and were disappointed with the quality of the ingredients used. It was quite bland and there was nothing outstanding about the sushi.
Quel
The sushi here is on point! Best sushi I have had. I usually get the cooked tuna and avocado roll, they are always fresh and taste delicious. I always buy takeaway though because the place is tiny and very squishy even when waiting to order you have to step side by side to let the waiters through.
Winnie Li
I used to go to this place frequently as it’s close to where I live but no more. There is no organization for people waiting in the queue. Is it an honesty system? Do you leave the name with the waitress or do you just stand in the front and get picked by them? There is no structure at all. When someone figures out, can you please tell the owner?! It’s an absolute joke. On top of that, the food quality is very inconsistent.
Pam
Delicious, not very cheap but competitive prices incomparison to other sashimi restaurants. Great quantity and quality. All dishes taste amazing.
Nozaira Sultana
My love for sushi has no limit and it gives me immense joy to discover a great sushi place. Beautiful, fresh sushi and value for money. It’s a small place which is always packed. A definite must for everyone.
Tastypanda
Good value and taste is good too. <br/>Got the teriyaki chicken and sushi set and was well fed. Will be back. <br/>If you go after 6:30pm usually expect crowds so get ready to wait around for a bit.
Syara Ann
Had teriyaki chicken set. Taste was okay. Ordered double miso soup because their staff didnt even tell us that our food comes with miso. Staff was rude, there were kitchen staff fighting at the kitchen made it even worse. Definitely wont come back.

In Sydney it is hard to find fresh delicious Japanese cuisine for a good price. At most places you end up spending about $70 or more for three people. <br/><br/>Sushi On Stanley has had consistently had great prices for the last...8 years that I have been visiting.<br/> <br/>I used to go here almost every week for a Friday lunch as I worked around the corner. Excellent combo sets for cheap, fresh Nigiri, hand rolls, Udon etc, some good vegetarian choices also. <br/>Going at peak lunch and dinner times is probably not a good idea as there is probably only about 8 tables in the whole place (2 outside). <br/>Can't go wrong with Sushi On Stanley!
Edwige Gnt
Top location for great Japanese food, prompt service and amazing value for money. Not a lot of tables, and no way to book, so be ready to wait to sit down (especially in the weekends). The decoration is kept to a strict minimum, but that's not why you go to Sushi on Stanley. Nice staff. I had the Sushi & Sashimi plate while my partner had the teriyaki tuna (it was real yum!). We will be back soon!
Thegiggs
Ordered California roll and when I was about to finish, the cockroach suddenly came out from the food. I was really shocked and told the staff the cockroach appeared on my food so be careful next time. However the staff seemed like he doesn't care at all and didn't apologise about the happening. So I was totally disappointed with the service and I wanted to vomit so bad. Poor service. No sanitary.
FoodLuva
Couldn't believe my luck, rocking up this place at 7.30 on a Friday and finding a spare table. Seriously every time I walk passed this place there is a huge queue trying to get in. Within minutes of being seated the queue began again.<br/>The good is the agadashi tofu (outstanding), miso eggplant, and the salmon salad. For me though the sushi was not as I expected, too cold and the rice was a little rough. Also the teriyaki beef was a little too sweet for my liking. Thankfully we still had room left so ordered soft shell crab rolls and salt and pepper squid - yum!<br/>Regarding the service , if you need something, just be prepared to yell out and try to get their attention - they are all under the pump. That said, the kitchen is chock full of cooks so the food comes out pretty quick.<br/>

Service: staffs were really friendly and patient. Very sweet with their smiles (:<br/><br/>Ambience: a very small but cozy place. Can be a little squeezy but the intimate ambience just gives it a very homely vibe like in the home of an authentic Japanese. <br/><br/>Food: Super worthy comparing price to portion but most importantly, the taste was good as well! I got the sashimi and teriyaki chicken set. Really satisfying 👍🏽 will head back again for a good Japanese meal.

Whether you think this place is overrated depends on what your expectations are of this place. The food here is not going to blow you away but this is definitely one of the cheapest places to have some decent sashimi. All the sets are very generous and selection is quite good.
Bryn Rayfield
We had the sashimi, gyoza, Terriaki chicken combo with extra sushi and I've got to say it was amazing! The sashimi was so fresh and tasty. Great service and good price. Highly recommended!
Hadrian
It's pretty hard to get in here. Very small restaurant with quite a lot of fans. There food is quite good, especially for the price. That is probably why their rating is so high. But they are another one of those Japanese restaurants that serve Chinese white long grain rice instead of Japanese variety rice. There is an obvious texture difference which sets it apart. Other than that, they are my pick of the two Japanese restaurants on Stanley street.
Nall Return
I hope rating 4.3 restaurant should be better.<br/><br/>Food is cheap but service is really bad.<br/><br/>These waiter face didn't welcome.<br/><br/>Dine in is really nightmare for me.All table is very fit . I didn't have space to eat :(<br/><br/>I will not come again. <br/><br/><br/><br/>
FoodieZealot
I tried the teriyaki chicken and salmon avocado roll and both were quite good. the chicken in particular was very fresh and the sauce was good too. the salmon roll was good but not great. also the pricing and the customer service was just right. overall a pleasant experience. fyi they are cash only.
Hannah
Hands down the most affordable and most tasty sushi place in Sydney. Sometimes it can be hard to get a table, but not a long wait most of the time. Sushi is so fresh and tasty. Would 100% recommend
The Next Rush
OH MY GOD I JUST SAY X FACTOR FINALIST, TAYLOR HENDERSON HERE!!! EATING A BENTO AND WATCH A MOVIE ON HIS LAPTOP OH MY GODDD I LIVE HIM! yes yes my takoyaki, grilled salmon skewer and salted calamari was much more tastier due to all the excitement.
S
A lovely place to dine, small and cosy. Staff did not seem friendly but the food made up for it. Ordered a teriyaki chicken with sushi dinner set, medium sushi platter, grilled kingfish and a plain udon. Teriyaki chicken served fresh and hot was absolutely delicious, the sauce was unique and something I have never tasted before. The sushi in the dinner set and the medium platter was absolutely amazing, with a dab of wasabi and soysauce, it melted in my mouth. The udon was definitely the best soysauce based udon I have tasted, well balanced out and delicious.
Leon
How is this Sushi bar rated 4.3?? Look at the sushi, the student-chef could not even roll or cut the sushi roll. Each sushi piece is uneven and the rice was not even compressed. For the unagi, the chef had forgotten an additional step to remove the eel's stomach before serving, resulting in a bitter, stale taste. As for the katsu set, the miso soup was cold, rice was mushy and the chicken katsu was simply badly fried. So elementary and 4.3. Hello people, have you ever eaten real sushi, unagi or bento before??
Miffy7
This hole in the wall was very busy with a queue outside, so I knew it was a place I had to check out. So today, my friend and I got here just after 12pm to have lunch and catch up.<br/><br/>Staff were friendly and we really enjoyed the food. I'm not saying it's the best Japanese I have had, but for the quality and value you get is very good. I had the sashimi and tempura set which was a generous size that came with a salad, miso soup and rice for $14.50. My friend ordered chicken teriyaki and avocado roll and a spicy salmon taco which was different but came with only one piece of taco. I just wish their miso was an it warmer as mine came out room temperature.<br/><br/>There were many people getting takeaway which is what I might do next time and the small restaurant was full by the time I left at 1.
Jackson Monts
Came here on Thursday at 1pm and it was packed! The little restaurant was full, and there were about 15 people waiting outside for takeaway or a seat. <br/>I went in and ordered some take away: teriyaki chicken and sushi set $14.50, Bargain! <br/><br/>The food was pretty decent. The assorted sushi mix was pleasant and I was surprised by how much sushi was in the set. The teriyaki chicken was a massive let down. The chicken was dry, and though the sauce was tasty, it had such a thick jelly-like consistency. I can see why it's so popular, the food is decent, and it's cheap! <br/><br/>Overall, had a good lunch and I'll be back!
Alan Price
Tiny restaurant on Stanley St. The sashimi is fresh and the gyoza is crispy. Theres nothing spectacular about the food here, but it's cheap and theres a large variety. I find myself eating here at least 2 times a week because its so convenient and cheap. For that, it gets 5 stars from me.
Charlie Pitt
Best sushi outside of Japan (honestly!) - ok, well the best sushi I've had in Australia for sure. Under-priced too, stuffed to the rim for 2 people at $64! Unbelievable value...only wish they had a sister store in Melbourne!
Rachael Jenna
Sashimi was so fresh and very tasty! Very quick service. Would recommend to anyone who wants a delicious and quick bite for a low cost. Was stunned at how cheap it was in relation to how much we actually ate! Great value for money.
Sachi
Good quality food but by far the most horrific service my friend and I have experienced in Sydney. <br/>-asked for water 3 times to then have to get it ourselves<br/>-asked to take our order 4 times to finally be served (yes this may be excusable if the restaurant was full but there were only 3 other tables occupied).<br/>-asked for the bill 3 times to be ignored which then meant we had to get up to pay<br/>-one dish we ordered seemed to have been mixed up with another table where the chef then proceeded to shout at the 2 waitresses in the middle of service for us to then have to wait another 30 minutes before serving what they had mixed up <br/><br/>Maybe if the waitress was less concerned about chasing pigeons out of the restaurant and the chef was more concerned about the overall service of his food and not micromanaging the staff the experience would have been enjoyable.
Lumia
It was an awful experience of eating there. The food itself was alright, and the price is reasonable. The thing which is really unbelievable and unacceptable is that while I was eating, there's a cockroach crawling on one plate on the table. It was not a very large cockroach,so I really don't want to think how many will be there. Not sure if I'm the only one can't stand that, but it's really disgusting and creepy. I don't even have energy and mood to argue with them.Just want to get out of there as soon as possible.
MMiguel
Reasonable food at a reasonable price, but do not have your expectations too high in terms of portion size. Service was good, very small restaurant.
Global Foodie & Filmy
A little gem with some really nice options like Tuna carpacio and seared salmon. Food is amazing but can't say the same for venue...very small and with such great food always a queue. Take away is a good option as you will never get such good Japanese for such good prices anywhere in Sydney. So take cash as they don't accept any card.
Olive Luna
Came here for lunch. A small restaurant but I did like their atmosphere:) I had a combo of eel kabayaki and sashimi. My bf ordered beef Udon. Although the soup of beef Udon was bit boring, we both liked noodle. My combo was average but sashimi was fresh. If eel kabayaki was more warm that would be great. Also my bf said third Rice is but hard compared to other Jap restaurants. I agree. Price was reasonable so I now know why this place is so popular.
Luke Huggett
Their chicken katsu hand roll is in my opinion, the best in Sydney (possibly the world). It's been the same level of greatness for years. <br/><br/>The other food is always great and served up fast. It's a cheap and cheerful dining option.
The RnB Diary
When I saw an article on Concrete playground that listed Sushi on Stanley as one of the top Japanese restaurants in Sydney, not only did I unfollow that blog, but I had to tell you my personal experience here.<br/><br/>It was cheap but not so cheerful. Menu was mainly teriyaki and udon, which would not satisfy any sophisticated palate for Japanese food.  I had the chicken teriyaki combo set with sashimi, it was very average! <br/><br/>The worst part was one of the waitresses had mouthful of food when she was working and stood right behind us chatting to another girl in a pretty loud voice. I could see the food in her mouth when she was chewing and talking at the same time. She also nearly hit me in the head with her elbow when her body language got too excited from the conversation. <br/><br/>I finished my mediocre lunch quickly, rushed out of the place, and would never look back!
Fattyyy
Decent sushi and sashimi, though there's better around. Relatively cheap, but always attracts a large local crowd at lunch. The combo sets are probably best value. I do like the option of black rice though
MKC Inc.
Love coming here. It's quick and easy eating. It's more of a casual eating spot where you're in and out within half an hour. The sushi is great and the sashimi fresh.
Lily Henderson
The food is absolutely amazing, BUT!! the customer service is absolutely ridiculous. Everytime i walk in there they have a personal joke about me and they laugh at me every single time i walk in and stare at me and i dont even know them...and they also think it is alright to be rude to other customers to. I would absolutely love to go and eat my sushi in peace but those bunch of idiots wont stop treating me like this if you have food that good you need to have better workers that are kind and actually care about their job, but apart from that its very good food only recommend going there if you dont mind being stared and laughed at :)
Princess_Porky
Used to see large queues each time I drove past so I was really curious. I read up on them before going so I'm pretty sure I went in with the right expectations. Basically, cheap and cheerful. This isn't meant to be expensive Japanese. My sushi sashimi dish wasn't fantastic though. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't any good. And the sushi was tiny. Seriously small. I guess so the plate looks more plentiful. The quality was ok. It's only saving grace was that the rice was a small portion too. Nothing worse than a tiny bit of fish and then a massive blob of rice.
Pollo_pesce_me
I have been coming to this restaurant over 18 years now and the quality of food is consistently okay.  Their Sashimi cuts are not the best but it's fresh. Teriyaki chicken is delicious and they are great at Tempura/fried dishes. I also love their spicy salmon salad and spicy Tuna hand roll which they make them with less rice but with good piece of tuna also it's quite spicy. Service is fast and well-priced.
Foodlover
Very small little sushi place in amongst all the Italian on Stanley st. I've only tried the sashimi plates here but they're super fresh and reasonably priced too.
JemM
Best sushi in Sydney, in my opinion. Be prepared to wait for a table , as the place is tiny. But, don't let that put you off - grab a drink at one of the many bars on the street and wait till the line dies down . The sushi really is fantastic .
FMBGD
Food was delicious!<br/><br/>Katsu chicken was on point. Sushi was tasty. Although the place is quite small the food was sick and also at a really good price. I would definitely recommend :)

I worked in Darlinghurst for 3 months and I visited Sushi on Stanley at least once a week. The food is excellent – tasty, very fresh and cheap. The restaurant is very small and it is best suited for a quick, informal meal or takeaway – the place gets full very quickly. There are a couple of outdoor tables but as there are no parasols, it could get rather hot in the Summer. I often sat on one of the tables nearest the entrance and watched the world go by. The menu includes a great selection of sushi, sashimi, hand rolls and hot dishes such as udon, teriyaki and katsu.
The Chefs Wife
Dinner on my first night in Sydney was at Sushi on Stanley, in Darlinghurst. This popular teeny tiny Japanese Restaurant was where I was introduced to the amazing Edamame.
MsBrulee
The combined cost of both the above featured lunch sets were only around the $30 mark which is incredibly reasonable considering that you get a choice of protein, a fresh salad, proper miso soup, bowl of rice AND sushi or sashimi.
Mademoiselle Mange A Sydney
Monsieur and I wanted Japanese food and discovered Sushi on Stanley randomly. It was around 5pm that day and not many restaurant on Stanley street were open, and if they were, most were empty… Apart from Sushi on Stanley. Sushi on Stanley “You taught me to never go to an empty restaurant” says Monsieur to convince me. I acknowledge that this tiny hole in the wall could actually be a good idea so here we go! Sushi on Stanley’s Bento – AUD 19 You get to choose whether you want fish, beef or chicken teriyaki. Monsieur goes for beef, I take chicken so we get to swap. AUD 19 gets you what you see above. A salad, a miso soup, beef teriyaki, sashimi, gyoza and a bowl of rice! How good value is that!? Sushi on Stanley – Fried Gyozas The gyoza are good, though I prefer steamed over fried. Monsieur likes his fried food, so he’s delighted about having these beautiful gyozas! Sushi on Stanley – Beef teriyaki I normally can decide whether beef or chicken is best when it comes to teriyaki meat. Most
Ms Munch
This place is tiny, always has a line and always produces good, fast, cheap, fresh food. They do great combo meals, like sushi and udon, or beef teriyaki and sashimi (both pictured). Don't come here to propose to your girlfriend. Do come here if you need to munch and zoom and where the only thing that needs to impress is the food. Oh, and they are BYO too (although their fridge is stocked with that mad Chi drink that used to be advertised on TV in the 90s).
Esther
Super cheap. Super Fresh. A terrific little hole in the wall neighbourhood favourite that we will definitely be visiting again soon.
Noodlies
It's been ages since we ate here, usually for Sunday lunch we've been going for the cheap and fast Big Boys Thai. But I had a craving for Japanese Eel meal, so we went to Sushi on Stanley; a little eatery on Stanley Street. We haven't been there for a whi
Lawrence Gibbons
I have been here several times and while the food is ok -- the service is appalling. The staff is working hard to break cultural stereotypes that the Japanese are hard working, efficient and clean. If you order a sushi roll and a main --'they will bring the main dish first. Tonight there were dirty dishes on about five empty tables. I couldn't even bring myself to take a seat. They need to lift their game.
Bk2
Grumpy service. Good food but value not so great with small portion sizes.. the workers are also a little grumpy?
Millie92
Delicious, fresh and cheap food - lucky people of Darlinghurst! The food at Sushi on Stanley is excellent - tasty, very fresh and cheap. I worked in Darlinghurst for 3 months and I visited Sushi on Stanley at least once a week. The restaurant is small and it is best suited for a quick, informal meal or takeaway.<br/><br/>I could not get over how cheap the food was - $5 for a generous portion of salmon and avocado rolls! The set meals are great too - fish teriyaki, rice, salad, sushi rolls and miso soup for the princely sum of around $12. Sydney is not a cheap place but I can say that you would really struggle to find anything similar for this price in the UK (where I'm from). You can buy pre-packaged sushi from the supermarket for the equivalent of $5 in the UK, but it will not be freshly made or the portion anywhere near as big. I have many happy memories of my time in Sydney and Sushi on Stanley is one of them. Folks of Darlinghurst, you are very lucky :-)
Alyse
Best in Sydney. This is my favourite sushi place in Sydney. It is really fresh, fast and super cheap.
Lena-balina
Alittle oily - alittle smelly and tight but altogether good. I'm not sure if i could say that i frequent this sushi bar but i go there once a month if not every 2 months - they are alittle on the oily side if you're ordering anything with tempura and alittle TA with the wasabi & ginger. It's also a really tight squeeze in there and poorly ventilated but most importantly - its fresh!
Kate
Best sushi in Sydney. The tastiest and freshest sushi. Very reasonably priced.
Doug
Cosy, great sushi, fresh, large portions, quick service. Highly recommend. Staff are nice.
Pheebs
Good range of sets or bentos. Deceivingly looks like a run down takeaway jap joint however the queues of people waiting for a table speak for themselves (well partly because there's so few tables!). Around $17 for a set however the portions are on the smaller side. Individual dishes are priced very reasonably though as I saw quite a few people order a set + another dish on top. Sushi/sashimi very fresh and made well. Will return
Claire
Came because the reviews are good. But the sushi is just average and sashimi was not very fresh. Only worth going for its price
ShoopShoop
Delicious. My favourite Japanese. Getting a tad expensive and sashimi portions very small, which is a shame. The price has gone up a few dollars in the past couple of years. And the place is so tiny you have to wait a long time to sit in the evenings, but well worth it!
Stevie
Excellent sashimi, always fresh. Another reviewer mentioned lack of Asian clientele - restaurant sits in heart of Stanley street, or "little italy", so please don't let this bother you at all. Food is great - yes it is small and a little uncomfortable - so eat and run or grab some take away. Salmon sashimi is delicious, as is cooked tuna and avo sushi. Vego tempura fab. Quick, easy and delish.

Value for money !. This small restaurant seems to run by Koreans , but honestly , who cares if the food is good ?! My partner and I were there at 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was about 50% full, with quite a number of people walking in for their take outs. <br/><br/>Most of the lunch combo sets are in the price range of $10- $14. Portion is not super big but not small either. <br/><br/>I tried the Chicken Katsu Curry Don Lunch Set ($10 woohoo!). It includes a small salad, miso soup and rice. I love how the curry was served on the side, and the chicken katsu was thick and juicy, set on top of a wire rack (good idea! so the chicken remains crispy).<br/><br/>My only (but small!) complaint would be that the chicken katsu was not piping hot (only lukewarm).....but hey! That's just me , being a picky eater :)

Best Japanese in Sydney. Fresh, tasty sushi and terryaki! Incredible value!
JJ1000
Great. I have been eating here for 10 years. It is my favourite restaurant in Sydney. It is mind-blowingly cheap and the food is fresh and tasty. BYO. Fast service. The stickiest teriyaki sauce in the world. The lunch or dinner sets are the best. Massive servings which is unusual for Japanese but suits me well as Im a big eater.
Trudymonk
It's the bomb. Enough said
Wei
Not for me. I decided to come here based on the high number of people liking this place and I was disappointed. There were no Asian people eating here at all (an indication of the authenticity of this place or the market this shop caters for) and we had to request water to be provided. The food was mainly sweet and the hot dishes were warm but the teriyaki chicken was burning. They restaurant is squishy, the menus are worn and the sushi comes out on wooden platters with the plastic covering worn out in a few places. On a positive note, the food came out really quickly.
Aroundtheworldrabbit
Super fresh and super cheap. If I lived right around the corner I would come here every night and get take-away sushi and sashimi, it is probably the freshest sushi in town at a reasonable price! and everything there is pretty good except the california roll. If you love sashimi here is the place to come with friends on a casual evening or Sunday afternoon's
Gus
Yum!. What a great place. We were just passing and looking for somewhere for lunch, my 10 year old boy wanted to have sushi and i have to admit i wasnt keen,i wanted a sandwich! He was right, we just had the big rolls and they were the best Japanese rolls i have ever had, they were delicous. I saw people getting tempura and it looked really good. We were just up from Melbourne for a few days and i along with the rest of my family really wanted to go back to eat there again but unfortunately we didnt get the chance. Next time we come up i will look forward to going there again. Very friendly too - highly reccommended.
Deb
Always good, well priced. The food is always good, brought out quickly and a good price. Very happy to go there time after time. Very small restaurant, but high turnover due to take aways.
Mad_hatter3
Best value sushi in sydney. Cheap, and great quality-I'm always happy when I leave here (although it's really hard to get a table most of the time!)
BSyd
Hmmm. I have been past many times (finally thought to try it today for lunch) an know most sushi places are Korean, there is a difference and this place is just another example. Its like a white guy trying to be black.
Mathew Southgate
Been here just once. But I thought this place was quite quaint - I think my kitchen at home is bigger than the one these guys have to work in and I thought it was funny that they used the fridge/freezer where the tables are to store ingredients. Not sure I would rush back but if you're after a cheap and cheerful bite, this hole in the wall Sushi experience is definitely worth checking out.
Sydney Snacker
Sushi win. Some of the most fun nights of my life have started with a meal at good old Sushi on Stan. Although the place is teeny tiny and you may have to wait up to 15mins for a table at times, it's always worth the wait. <br/><br/>Sushi on Stanley consistently provides tasty sushi, udon and teryaki (chicken, beef, fish) at a ridiculously low price, with great combo-meals that are sure to satisfy your every craving. The chicken teriyaki roll is served warm and is a magical creation of mayonaisey-avocadoy goodness you will not want to miss. The lightning fast service will make up for any wait for the table. <br/><br/>A great option if you're short of cash, as you can walk out absolutely stuffed for $10-$20, and you can BYO your own wine or beer, free of charge. Sushi Win :)

Great value for money. Always a good feed!

Good food, fresh sushi, delicious teriyaki. The staff all seem to be Korean but this is not a deal breaker as the food was good and prices reasonable.

Tiny restaurant, but not short on character. Cheap, delicious Japanese food - the best teriyaki sauce I have ever had - do not miss it!!

Cheep and cheerful. It's been ages since we ate here, usually for Sunday lunch we've been going for the cheap and fast Big Boys Thai. But I had a craving for Japanese Eel meal, so we went to Sushi on Stanley; a little eatery on Stanley Street.<br/><br/>We haven't been there for a while, but today it was obvious that it's changed hands. The new owners were Koreans. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, there seems to be more staff and more attention to customers.<br/><br/>My eel meal came with miso, rice, salad, prawn and vegetable tempura and two slices of eel. Not bad for $13 dollars, but maybe more a case of quantity rather than quality. Can't put my finger on it, but even the eel didn't have the taste that I was expecting. The tempura, always light in flavour, verged on having none at all.<br/><br/>Walter had the chicken and fried dumplings which was ok.<br/><br/>Good value, good service, but nothing to write home about.
