The first ever Napoli certified pizza restaurant in Sydney does not disappoint. Must be up there with the best pizza in the country. Well worth visiting if in the area. Da Mario is da best.
Da Mario’s pizzas are made the Neapolitan way, so a thicker base than the Roman style pizza and personally my favourite style of pizza. The bases are perfectly cooked and the toppings are traditional Italian toppings. The service is friendly and attentive. I am looking forward to going back! #damario #pizzeria
We were catching up with friends and our kids for an early dinner and I’m glad they suggested Da Mario as their pizzas were very good. We ordered the Margherita and the short pasta with tomato, basil and ricotta for the kids to share and they seem to really enjoy it all.
For the adults, we shared calamari, radicchio salad, two pizzas and a pasta on their special board with lamb ragu. Their pizzas are all very good but their lamb ragu pasta which was one of the pricier dishes was small and didn’t taste that great. The pasta itself was al dente and cooked well.
Service was friendly and they did get very busy and they have two seatings so we had to get going. We were too full to try their desserts but next time I would like to try their tiramisu.
This was one of the first places I went to eat at when I first moved to Sydney, I love pizza and was told that this place does authentic Italian style pizza, Wood fire ovened so it’s got a crispy crust and chewy base. I was wowed by how good the pizza was, as good as the ones found in Italy! I love how they have both red and white base pizzas and they do a couple of margherita options. The arancini is good as well, the pasta too but I would say the bolognaise is a bit on the salty side so I would more so recommend the pizzas. Belissimo! 🍕
We came earlier than our booked time slot (on a Friday night) and they couldn’t seat us because no tables were available...shows how busy and well-loved this restaurant is :) The food did not disappoint, the pizza and pasta were so delicious and the service was also excellent. Our waiter gave great recommendations and was very attentive. Best Italian restaurant in Rosebery!
Been here twice in 2 weeks and trust me the food is really good. Pasta is all made in house so you know you’re getting quality food. Pizza is amazing with the chewy dough and also the wood fire oven makes the taste absolutely divine with many places just using the gas oven.
Portion is average not much but enough for per person. Just order 1 each to share. The pasta mare is a must to order so do the spaghetti cacio de pepe. I have yet to try the white pizza but the rosse pizza have been satisfying along my visit.
Service is impeccable too. Lovely staff even tho they’re busy on Saturday night they’ll make sure you’re well served.
Don’t missed out on their dessert. The tiramisu is my absolute fav it isn’t over the top sweet and so creamy with the right amount of coffee. And the gelato is great. The hazelnut is also amazing. These are all my fav dessert in the menu.
Make sure you had a booking even on weekday as they might not have a seat for you. You’ll be surprise by how full house they can be even on weekday moreover weekends
Delicious reliable Italian restaurant! Made a good impression on me when I️ came for a work dinner last year, so I was glad that my visit last Friday still provided great food and service.
Ordered the:
- Spaghetti Mare - Moreton Bay bug pasta with beautiful seafood flavours in a sauce that you want to lick off the plate. Star dish!
- Gnocchi with lamb ragu - warming and melt in your mouth textures. Would order again.
- Arancini (entree) - strong blue cheese taste, which I️ liked but my partner didn’t. Could do with a dollop of a creamy sauce to dip arancini in.
- Hazelnut semifreddo - with strawberries. I️t was nice, but I️ like the tiramisu more.
Good portion sizes that satisfied my partner and I️.
Have previously had the pizzas here and the tiramisu - highly recommend and def share it!
Excellent service, great atmosphere and Italian food that will make you salivate. Ordered aracini balls, salamino pizza and gnocci with lamb (all to share). Would be tempted to order the exact same dishes next time I go because they were that great.
I am Italian and I love real traditional Pizza Napoletana. I had one of the best pizzas in town last Saturday when I went with my friends. The pizza was perfect – it folded right and I ate it with great pleasure. I read the past reviews and I saw (again – I read/hear this all the time about Pizza Napoletana) people complaining about the middle of the pizza being too soggy/flabby/moisty. I am not a pro pizza expert, but I am an experienced pizza eater ;-) and I know that's how the Pizza Napoletana should be (although I think soggy and flabby are not the right terms as they sound pejorative; maybe thin and soft?). Such comments make me sooo angry! This pizza was soft and thin in the middle, as I like it, and I cannot wait to have it again!
4.5 because the atmosphere was a bit too trendy for my liking (I felt more like in Milan, where I am from, than in Naples), but it's really just my taste.
Traditional Italian style food.
Enjoyed the woodfired pizza here.
Pasta, the tagliatelle, was good and sauce cooked well. Just really tasty food. Just yum.
Beautiful funky place. I liked it.
Great for big groups - lots of space and the menu is made for sharing with plenty of pizzas and pastas. The pizzas are definitely the must-orders here. The crust was good, nearly as delicious as the one I remembered from Via Napoli's a few years ago. We also ordered the radicchio salad which was excellent. The slight bitterness of the leaves paired really well with the sweet grapes, walnuts, balsamic and strong cheese. The pastas were very average to be honest. Friendly service made us feel welcomed.
Excellent authentic Italian pizza with great starters, other mains and good drinks list two. A contribution to the rising coolness of Rosebery and well worth crossing town for.
This is my favourite pizza in Sydney. Every slice is a winner. The dough is thin, with a chewy, well flavoured crust and the toppings are simple but effective.
You literally can't go wrong choosing a pizza but we always get the margherita con ruchetta e crudo (proscuitto and rocket) and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The pancetta is also a winner (mozzarella, ricotta, pancetta, fresh tomato and thyme).
Not that you'll need any encouragement, but eat it quickly before it goes soggy the way authentic pizza does.
The interior is moody and trendy but you can still hear each other. The wait staff are mostly Italian so speak quickly and with passion.
Great vibe!
Whole venue was buzzing in a Tuesday night, service was good, food was homey, love their pizza and pasta. Chili oil was hotter then we expected, but that was a nice surprise!
These guys are awesome. Really accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly. Food of course is delicious as well! Would definitely recommend.. they'll even sing happy birthday to you!
Excellent pizza and pasta! Always satisfies when craving italian. The balmain bug pasta is particularly good and the wood fire oven helps to make an amazing pizza base. You do have to book as they get quite busy but it's a lovely place to sit and enjoy dinner with friends and family
Da Mario has been around for a while now and we had been meaning to check it out, especially after hearing alot of positive feedback. Some friends of ours had just had a baby and this was the perfect excuse to catch up and enjoy a meal at the same time. Da Mario is a large stylish dining space in the up and coming dining precint of Rosebery. There is plenty of indoor seating as well as alfresco dining on the deck. Da Mario serves traditional Italian fare including certified Napolitan style pizza, so you cannot make variations to what is listed.
This place has ruined pizza for me. I can't eat it anywhere else. Specifically the eggplant and smoked buffalo mozzarella. I am actually drooling writing this. The number one pizza in Sydney by such a long shot, the nearest competitors aren't even close. GRAZIE MILLE
During a short trip to Sydney I browsed google for the best top 10 Italian pizzerias. Some of these I have already been to as per my earlier zomato reviews but now because I was short on time just before boarding a plane back to Melbourne I decided to go to Da Mario which was very close to the airport.
This place is located at the ground floor of a larger office/shop/apartment building in a residential neighborhood. They have a large kitchen and dining area with a veranda that is enclosed on rainy and cold days so it can probably cater for 100 people in total.
The waiting staff is plentiful and will take care of you fairly quickly. I was provided with water and menu and ordered a Diavola and Stone&Wood pale ale. The pizza was served in much less than 10 minutes and visually it was just perfect with a beautiful puffy crust and super thin base and mozzarella still melting all over the pizza. Upon the first bite the above positive impression was intensified even further. Heaps of flavor and top notch Italian ingredients. I also got a small bowl of home made chili oil...free of charge what is still pretty unusual in many pizzerias. I loved every piece of my pizza.
To finish the day I ordered a perfectly smooth chocolate mousse which I devoured quickly :)
Highly recommended top quality Napoli pizza folks! Dig in without hesitation!
The food here is the real deal. Authentic Italian style pizza, definitely the best I've had in Sydney, and what is great about this place is that the quality of the pasta matches the quality of the pizza (most good Italian places tend to focus on one or the other). The ambiance here is great too. Very inner-city industrial cool. Large space, lots of tables, good for groups. They let us split the bill. Recommend booking ahead.
Good pizza and pasta. We really like the green pea risotto which was on the special menu that night. Service was good too. One of the better Italian we had in a while.
Probably the best pizza around. Authentic and tasty the margarita is a winner and outright favourite. The only reason I don't give them 5 is that their soft drinks are terrible. I would have preferred coke from the bottle or can rather than syrup mixed with carbonated water.
Best customer service from friendly and attentive staff even in busy hours, and great food. Great atmosphere with all the pot plants all over the place. Loved the Capriciosa Pizza, the base is authentic Italian crust, I just wish they had Gluten Free bases available too. Will definitely be back.
I keep forgetting just how good the food is here. Authentic Italian pizza or world class pasta it's beautiful wholesome food that makes you feel amazing.
A very good Italian place! Best pizza found in Sydney so far. Prices are a little expensive but worth it!
Came here for the first time tonight. Have to say service was excellent very attentive and food was quick to arrive after we ordered. Pizza was good thin crust authentic. In particular the margherita and melanzana were amazing. Tiramisù was delightful and also tasted the pineapple panna cotta. All in all a good experience will return.
Oh my, the gorgonzola con raddichio was spectacularly good. The base was soft, fluffy, charry - perfection. The risotto (squid ink) was also a delight to eat. Despite being friendly, I thought the waiting of tables was a bit disorganized... but this really wasn't a big issue.
Ok but too much crust and very cold during winter. Good service.
Solid pizza. Haven't tried much else on the menu, but everything is fairly pricey
Suggest calling ahead for a reservation as often fills up
Had a great time here with their excellent pizza and pasta. The spaghetti mare
with the morton bay bugs was easily one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Perfectly cooked al dente pasta, along with the sweet seafood flavours lurking among the tomato base. Would definitely come back. The location is also great as it's not too busy around the area
Best traditional Italian pizza ive had outside of Italy.. My mouth waters every time I think about it, my wife feels the same way. The other food is fantastic also, however the star of the show is definitely the pizza. Service was fast and friendly.
I love Da Mario. Among a table of four we feel we nearly tried everything off the menu here, with exception to any pizza. I often find Arancini far too common and badly executed, however Da Mario has me convinced it is nothing but delicious. the Caprese salad and Calamari were big favourites, with the Ragu Tagliatelle also impressive.
Fantastic vibe at Da Mario , always busy and understandably why. Great value, and the staff and incredibly welcoming and attentive. I'm usually not big on Italian however this place changes my view.
Great place with quality pizza, pastas and wine to match... Management and staff are super attentive and have great knowledge...had the lamb shoulder special last visit... And defiantly didn't disappoint, well executed and presented..
Mmmm lamb shoulder
Great Italian food in nice modern decor. Start with a Campari or negotiations cocktail & fresh pasta a must. Service is quick & good wait staff
Can't fault this place, pasta delicious pizza some of the best in town. Service very attentive, close to home this place ticks all the boxes
Food is amazing! Pasta is fresh made and you can definitely tell. Pizza bases are authentic and topping are high quality. Wine list is great and service is really friendly and helpful. Hazelnut and white chocolate semifreddo is a must!
The base was perfectly thin – not thin to the point where the sauce makes it soggy. Love the slight tang from the tomato and the saltiness from the olives and ham.
The food here is exceptional, some of the best Italian in Sydney! The service is great even though the restaurant is usually full. Bookings are essential.
I love Da Mario, another highlight of Rosebery's ever increasing food Mecca. This place has more than amazing pizza!! Great food great services and great wine
Wow!
What can I say, a fantastic evening of authentic, lovingly crafted Italian deliciousness in THE up and coming foodie nook of reclaimed industrial buildings.
The atmosphere is airy, modern and funky with gorgeous interior touches like the hanging ferns. Waiters are attentive and ours was wonderfully friendly.
But the shining glory of this establishment is the food. Hands down my favourite was the beef carpaccio- tender, beautifully and plentifully seasoned. The short pasta was another absolute highlight, cooked perfectly with the most perfect tomato, basil sauce. We also tried the arancini balls and smoked speck pizza- yum yum yum! we left with full bellies (couldn't even finish our pizza).
Overall, really can't fault a thing, courses do arrive quite quickly and we found ourselves finished within the hour. However, I would 100% recommend Da Mario and look forward to our next return.
We went here on a Saturday at 7:30, the restaurant was fully booked but the atmosphere was very relaxed and you could still have a conversation without being drowned out.
The service was very good, the waiters are knowledgeable and prompt to your needs. We opted for the carpaccio which was the standout dish of the night; exactly how you would expect sliced thinly and melts in your mouth.
This is an authentic Italian restaurant that is very reasonably priced.

+4
The service was prompt and pleasant, upon entering we were seated within minutes. Water on table and cutlery all placed in position like clockwork
Food didn't take long to be served and boy what a delight it was, great quality served at reasonable prices you couldn't ask for better
Bellisimo 👌🏻
Perhaps we didnt order the best pizza but it wasn't too good. But i want to try it again hehe! I personally did not like the arancini balls but my bf loved them!!!! Pizza couldve been better but i think we didnt order the correct one! want to retry because i still think the food was fab!
I used to go to the Pizza Mario in Surry Hills. When I first went, I was blown away by the pizza, it was deliciously wood fired and flavoursome. It became my favourite pizza.
I've also eaten at and from the Roseberry restaurant - and I've noticed the pizza can often be too soggy and the crust too thin, which almost feels like eating raw dough with a bit of tomato sauce and topping. I think if the base was a few mm thicker, this could avoid the sogginess.
Location wise it's not that convenient, so it's a shame they have closed the Surry Hills restaurant.
I'll probably be back again.... eventually.
When I eat a pizza I look at 3 things.
1. The base - crisp, thin and tasty
2. The toppings - simple, flavorsome and the perfect amount.
3. The customers - regulars, locals, Italians.
That's how you know a pizza is great and Da Mario ticks all the boxes. Yum!
Pizza is fantastically authentic....
Best margarita pizza out there! Lovely pizza base. Nice atmosphere. Lovely meal. Extensive menu. Definitely will be back again third time round.
Busy place, book early. Been there twice now and would go again.
Sensational pizza, and friendly staff. Highlight for me was the gelato affogato with Frangelico dessert.
I love this place. The ragu is a must try. The fritura is also good. The service is always friendly and efficient. The pizza base has a delicious flavour. Sometimes a little bit soggy but most pizzas are like that lately
With no variations clearly printed on the menu, it was pretty evident that the request of "only a little cheese" on the pancetta pizza fell under the same rule, and on deaf ears.
Awesome pasta. Even though everyone comes here for the pizza, I think they serve incredibly delicious pasta! Very well priced and service is wonderful. Is now my weekly lunch place.
Simply Divine. Authentic Italian at its best.
Great pizza and a lovely menu. I will be back for more.
Loved the food! Authentic Neapolitan pizza swith a beautiful puffy crust and quality ingredients. We tried three and the best pizza was the simple mozzarella, basil and tomato. The restaurant is in the middle of no where but the advantage of that is parking is easy. The place was packed on a Saturday night so there's still a nice atmosphere. The Italian staff were very attentive. I recommend da Mario's!
Beautiful and vibrant place with friendly italian staff always ready to assist. Simple menu with great food and authentic italian pizza! Must go!
We Dined here last night. Being a Tuesday I thought it would be quiet.
I was wrong. Great Vibe. Busy. Families in abundance.
The Food was excellent.
We had a Mixture of Deep Fried Calamari. Four Cheese Balls.
Beef Carpaccio.
Mains consisted of
Pizza. Risotto. Pork Belly. And Fish of The Day. All excellently presented.
The Wine list all though not Large. Is good. We had A Sicilian Wine. Wow.
Desserts were good as well.
Home Made Tiramasu
Really good food, families welcome and we will be back!
