Very nice Thai food. We had the royal flower dumplings and betel leaf for entrees. The dumplings are delicious but the best was the betel leaf entree. I could eat this all day, especially the coconut relish! The mains were good too. We had the duck curry and the crispy pork belly. Both are very tasty. Service is a bit slow but the restaurant is lovely so will suit those not in a hurry.

I am in love with Wild Ginger in Sydney. They have this "Wild Ginger Special Sauce" which is so good, I would love to just bottle that sauce it's so good. I just love their style of food and I would happily go back, time after time again.

We were walking around the Rocks, and this place happened to be on one of the lists of top restaurants in the area. To be completely honest I felt that the place was closer to a 3.5 than a 4. The ambience felt a little cold but the staff was really friendly. Their food was pretty typical Thai (slightly pricier), but the dessert we had gotten (coconut dumplings in coconut milk) was surprisingly good - sweet, creamy, and salty. Would recommend if you are looking for Asian food at the Rocks.

If you want to come here make sure you keep a good eye out because this place is hard to find! I’d also recommend booking.
We were served promptly and our drinks arrived quickly too. I felt the drinks were a little pricey.

The food was beautifully presented and for the most part was absolutely delicious. Our one gripe with the food was that the green papaya was extremely spicy. The menu mentioned chilli but it was so hot we could not finish it. We loved the waygu beef and the crispy pad Thai - pretty unique dish. Will be back one day!

Does My Bomb Look Big In This

A change of ownership has seen the space formerly occupied by Sailors Thai morph seamlessly into Wild Ginger Dining + Bar. This new restaurant continues the longstanding history of Thai cuisine in this historic space, which started back in 1996 with David Thompson and the late Peter Bowyer. The most recent change hasn’t affected the cuisine, which remains in the upper echelon on Sydney’s Thai offerings, largely because the new owners sensibly chose to retain the same Thai chefs.I recently wound my way down the stairs, twists and turns of this iconic Rocks building, which used to be a home for seamen, to eat in their quiet and serene lower dining room. My meal began rather royally, with Chor Muang ($4/each), steamed chicken dumplings. These beautiful dumplings are delicately plucked into flowers. The purple colouring is courtesy of the anchan flower (also called the butterfly pea flower) and thus totally natural. They have a mild flavour that's mostly...

Wild Ginger is located in the rocks and the actual building has heritage and architecture that is stunning. The building is actually the first of Sydney's commercial hub.The thai restaurant hosts a number of delights to enjoy with a mesh of traditional thai flavours with Australian modern twists. Wild Ginger's menu is intended for sharing (which is good for me so I can try more dishes) and sources their ingredients from local produce. I sit down and relax. It's a rainy cold day and I just want to recover from the nasty weather. I order a Mango Spice which is made with tequila, mango puree, fresh lime and ginger. The mango is more subtle than anticipated but it's still a nice, fruity cocktail that I enjoyed. FOR FULL REVIEW INCLUDING PHOTOS. GO TO BLOG POST

I'm quite excited to try out Wild Ginger, housed in the former Sailor's home building, in the exact location of the probably better known ex-occupant, Sailor's Thai. The menu is quite sophisticated, starting with the deliciously sounding and unique Thai inspired cocktails.
I opt for the mango spice cocktail, a delectable concoction of tequila, mango puree, fresh lime, ginger. Its flavour combination is as refreshing as it sounds, the hint of ginger is the perfect accompaniment without being to overpowering.

Came here on a Wednesday night with my girl friends. The restaurant has plenty of seats. Atmosphere is quiet compared to other Thai restaurants. Good place for quiet dining. Food was fine but overpriced. Rice was $3 per bowl on the menu, we ordered 3 bowls for 5 to share but I reckon the actual portion served in a medium sized bowl was 2 bowls worth of rice only. Rice servings are too small!!! 5kg of Jasmine rice only costs $6.50 (half priced). They are earning 2000% from it, why can't increase the servings?
Service was very good. Friendly and helpful staff. Corkage charge of $5 per head and weekend surcharge applies.
They got my bill printed wrongly and was very helpful in giving my refund in cash the following day.

*Thank you to Food Critics and Bloggers Australia and Wild Ginger for inviting me to this tasting. . Sailors Thai sits within a well-known sandstone building. I had never actually had the chance to walk in there and try it myself but I always knew it existed. . One midweek evening, I made my way down to The Rocks only to find the sign had changed to say Wild Ginger. With a chance to talk to some of the staff and chefs we knew we were set for a good night ahead.

Located at the Rocks, Wild Ginger is a fine dining Thai restaurant with plenty of seating ranging from large groups to intimate dates. We went on a Wednesday night with a 50% food deal via Dimmi, and the place was pretty quiet. My favourite was the wagyu beef salad, with the taro sago dessert also a hit. A litttle disappointing was the pricing for rice - most places have unlimited refills. Overall food and service was pretty good but definitely pricy. Based on the 50% off price - was around $40pp with a drink.

We dined here on a Tuesday evening, 4 of us. This restaurant is deceiving from the front , it has many dining rooms. It has a few levels, and the lighting is very romantic. We chose to sit outside overlooking the harbour. Service was fast, food was Devine. Highly recommend the salt and pepper squid, green papaya salad and pad Thai . Great flavours and super fresh.

Wild Ginger, located in a heritage building in the heart of the rocks, next to Cadman's cottage and right opposite the Overseas Passenger Terminal. Perfect for a date, casual dinner or even a large party with friends or colleagues. There's a lot of different areas, bar tables and also some outdoor seating.
Thai food with a sprinkling of native Australian ingredients. With some new Thai entrees that we haven't experienced before. Classified as 'modern thai dining', it's certainly worth a visit. We were in a group so got a special selection of meals.

Starting with some tasty oysters with Thai flavours to whet the appetite. Then on to a mix of tasty small plates including a chicken and crab roll wrapped in a tofu sheet and plum sauce, as well as a betel leaf filled with peanuts and coconut relish, snowy mountain trout and flying fish roe and a chilli kick.

The rolling mains for the table included a firey prawn thai salad with a good balance of flavours, spicy and fresh. Thai stir fried mushrooms - my favourite (shiitake, enoki, oyster mushrooms with garlic and oyster sauce) and a flavoursome green curry chicken with a good amount of spice and not too much coconut cream/milk. The deep fried pork belly was very nice. We then had a shared dessert if black sticky rice and tapioca pudding as well as some mango - the group polished this one off super fast!
In terms of drinks, there's a big selection of white or Red Wine, a range of cocktails, including a tom yum vodka cocktail and also tried an interesting lemongrass spritzer as well as an Apple Martini with Thai Rum at the end of the night.
Thank you for the wonderful hospitality.

Buy be prepared for very very long exasperating and annoying waits too. Chef is a great cook, but a total dud at speed.

Great venue behind the International Terminal in what used to be Sailors Thai Canteen. In and done in an hour with fast and friendly service. We ate on the balcony which was delightful, even though it was a little windy. Food was delicious albeit at a price 3x exotic Entree plus 4 mains for $170. Pictured is the Crispy Pork Belly and the Papaya with Soft Shelled Crab.

Very nice food. My favourites are the Wagyu and lamb chops. Service is extremely slow. If you think you'll need more rice, make sure to ask for it 15 minutes before you run out. The last order was after we finished all the food in the first session, however, after 30 minutes it still wasn't ready. So we cancelled. So make sure you order at least 30 minutes before you run out of food.

Incredible food. I had the lamb curry and it was perfect. Spicy, dark, nutty curry sauce. Slpw cooked lamb so tender you could cut it with a fork. Also had the scallops appetizer which was very good. Staff was friendly without really bothering you a lot. And it has a nice harbor view to top it all off

We had the vegan 2 course banquet and a couple of cocktails. The menu was pretty deceiving... We had no idea there'd be SO MUCH food for us to share! The Silken Tofu Curry was aaahhhhmazing! That's sauce, ugghh so good. We ended up taking some home in a doggy bag. We went in the evening and loved the lighting and ambience. The whole dining experience was a lil exxy, but we were happy to pay the price when receiving delish meals, drinks, good service in a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Delicious food (the best penang!) and nice location. They do not serve coconut rice which is a bit disappointing, but I really enjoyed it. If you can get a seat outside there's a little bit of a view

Fast and very friendly. The food was the best Thai we'd ever had! And we've been a lot in Thailand! Says it all. All the family were super happy with the food, kids 12 and 14 loved it as much as the adults. Highly recommend it. The only downside was that quite a few things on the menu wasn't available. They should've told us that before deciding
