Very interesting and tasty Japanese fusion food, service was impeccable, definitely worth a repeat visit.
thanks for the recommendation the salmon nam nam nam yum yum yum!
Breakfast with the Sakuma's everything on this dish is amazing! From the grilled salmon, smoked eel croquette, sous vide egg made this one of the best dishes I've had.
I have tried so many coffee shops around Sydney and I have to say, that Devon has the best coffee in the city. It's my daily source of happiness and energy. Thanks guys for being here you are awesome.
Sometimes it truly is the small things in life that can make the biggest difference. From gestures such as a brief thank you, to the thoughts or gifts we give to the world - whether lighting up our day or filling our stomachs, the moments are both precious and perennial. Nothing could be more true when it comes to my almost daily wanderings to Devon Cafe.
From the delightfully warm service, to the flavours bursting inside - nothing could resonate with more passion!
I can safely vouch that whether ordering Eggs Blini or the scrumptious Breakfast with the Sakuma’s - the price range is more than reasonable and enough to satisfy any hungry heart!
Definitely recommend Devon Cafe for any self proclaimed foodie in search of something new! You won’t be disappointed!
Get there for the seasonal truffle menu while they last! Good coffee too.
Devon is definitely a goto cafe in Sydney. It offers a unique menu with seasonal items. Would reccomend checking them out during truffle season.
Great for insta photos and for quality food.
Im really picky comes to coffee. So i have been looking for a good coffee place since wfh. So far, devon is the best local coffee around Central stations part of surry Hills. On top of that, if u buy pre purchase card this will only cost $3 per coffee. Girls in the shop are so friendly, they always remember my order every morning.
My first time trying truffle at this cafe and wow, it blew my expectations. Warning truffle overpowers everything in the dish. I got the steak Wagyu tamagoyaki and it was really good. The service is very friendly and welcoming as you enter the premises. I would recommend and dine here yourself, in my opinion it's a relaxing place to eat~
Cozy minimalistic Japanese (Muji-style) cafe. There are 3 area (front - coffee place, mid & back - dining area).
Ordered the chicken katsu sando with wasabi mayo. The katsu was crispy yet tender in the inside. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience.
During this Covid-19, max dining time is 60 mins while max coffee time is 30 mins.
food: 8.5/10
service: 7/10
overall had was a good experience, wait staff did confuse our order and we did wait a while for our dessert (may have forgotten our table), however, may have been new staff. but the food was so good, all was forgotten 🙃🙃
Devon Cafe
Address: 76 Devonshire St, Surry Hills NSW 2010
Devon Cafe is one of the popular brunch spots that is located in the city.
I love the ambience of this cafe, however, there is limited seating capacity. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Omurice. Omurice or omu-rice is an example of yōshoku consisting of an omelette made with fried rice and thin, fried scrambled eggs, usually topped with ketchup.
Mushroom Glaze
Egg
Grilled Chicken
Tomato Rice
Price:
Omurice AUD$12
Add ons:
Fried Chicken AUD$7
Grilled Chicken AUD$7
Ebi Katsu AUD$7
Pork Katsu AUD$10
Grilled Salmon AUD$13
Steak AUD$13
I would give the food a rating of 7.5/10. The grilled chicken is amazing! The flavour is permeating throughout the chicken and the meat is still moist and juicy. The eggs are cooked like a half-done omelette, and this makes the omurice to have that creamy texture. For the mushroom glaze, it adds a spectacular flavour to the dish, and you can feel the umami taste. In my opinion, I don’t really like tomato rice, because I don’t really like sour foods; however, the sourness from the tomato makes the dish to be more refreshing. It creates a balance for the taste of the meal.
For the service itself, Devon cafe’s team member is super friendly. I must say that the price for the food in Devon Cafe are standard, just like the other cafes.
It was my first time dining here and I was very impressed. Every dish that I tried was delicious. Love their Omurice with Ebi Katsu, Breakfast with Sakuma’s and Crab Omelette. So unique and tasty. Coffee is amazing and I also love their matcha cheesecake. Highly recommend!
Both the house specials (salmon and croissant) were great. Even my girlfriend who hates most animals that come from the sea enjoyed them. The coffee was good and matcha yuzu drink was surprisingly refreshing. Beware of sitting outside the toilet. It can smell.
Easy to find just a few minutes away from central station. Quiet and sweet atmosphere. Love the omelette which has the most incredibly creamy and soft egg I’ve ever had. And seasoning of wagyu salad rice was also a perfect mix of all the ingredients. Worth trying another time.
I ordered the egg sandwich which was delicious and very fragrant. It’s not a normal plain egg sandwich, they seasoned it amazingly and the egg is very generous whilst the bread is soft.
I love the eggs in the omurice. But I think both dishes were kinda salty for me. The coffee was also tasty. As for the iced orange mocha, there was not much orange taste :)
A light airy cafe on Devonshire Street, the views are onto the light rail tracks. It is pretty much a fusion cafe but they do it really well here. They’re well know for their truffle menu during winter. Having only visited their Barangaroo branch and this being their mainstay, what better reason than to sample some truffle dishes?
Service was friendly and got a seat at the window bench table. Water and menu brought to me, I decided to start off with a Devon’s Delight Iced Tea which had hibiscus and rose. Refreshing and not too sweet it was a fruity reminder of summer. To eat I had the Devon x La Boqueria meal of Devon Truffle Eggs. Perfectly poached eggs were topped by a creamy hollandaise sauce and accompanied by asparagus, and jamon serrano. A crisp potato mille feuille sat to the side of these. Ultimately made all the better by the freshly shaved truffle. The dish is a success and the flavours and textures were top notch.
Feeling indulgent I then ordered a Dulce De Leche Latte topped with truffle. Well made and sweet enough for me, lovely latte art was served with a few slices of truffle. Amazing! For dessert was the Little Lost Bread. Brioche french toastmasters a scoop of truffle ice cream on top covered with fresh truffles with hazelnut cream, frosted cornflakes, meringue, caramelized banana adorning the plate. The truffle adds an earthiness to a sweet dish and I particularly enjoyed that.
Make sure to visit before truffle season is over.
friendliest staff ever and were so patient with helping me accomodate nearly 20 people on a busy morning. only tried one item and it was very nice, would definitely come back to try more, as everyone told me they all enjoyed their meals.
Tried one of the signature here: the BREAKFAST WITH THE SAKUMA'S. Nice cooked salmon and poached egg. Good environment and nice staff. Recommended it.
Been here several times already and have always been happy with their food and drinks! Favourite dish would be the Salmon, so succulent and well seasoned.
The wait was minimal as this was a small cafe/restaurant, but the food was beyond exceptional. The food was well seasoned and it was beyond my expectation. Service was excellent and the staff members were extremely helpful and friendly
Nice brunch location. Menu is so Japanese inspired and very delicated. Love the salmon dish, cooked to perfection. Pasta was the highlight of the day.
This is one of my most recommendable place.
-A, location is very close to Central station (convenient).
-B, the Asian fusion food they got is really interesting and yummy.
-C, cozy interior.
This place is very busy all the time especially weekend, but if you're a fan of seafoods, you should go.
My favourite dish is seafood omelet with croissant. Honestly it was better when I had a while ago, the omelet was bit too cooked the day before yesterday, still nice but pretty rich.
They always bring some interesting bites on weekend special.
I am waiting for these guys to make their way to Melbourne. Great decor and ambience. Super polite staff. And the food.....the food I’m still dreaming about. I love truffle and these guys specialise in that
While I thought the taste of Sakuma was the only good dish after being disappointed by the blue spammer crab pasta and pork, the updated Devon menu leaves me wanting to try more.
They happened to debut their matcha toast which we tried and were very surprised by its creamy slightly bitter flavour, complementing the crunchy toast. We upped the matcha ante by also getting a matcha latte which was milky, bittersweet.
Craving something fresh, I decided to try the poke bowl and was quite satisfied with the quantity and freshness of the salmon.
The Chef has changed since I have last been here and I’ll be back to try more things.
Ordered the Croissant Saint Denis which was delicious, filled with crab meat and flavour, and the main reason why Devon is deserving of a 5/5.
There have been criticisms of the price of the menu, however their menu is innovative/unique, where each food item has very apparently had a lot of thought put into it. Therefore I definitely believe that it is worth the cost.
*The menu on Zomato is outdated as they have introduced new signature dishes.
One of my favourite food in Sydney! Breakfast with Sakuma ftw! Taste delicious, unique and well-balanced meal. Love it! Staff are friendly, and food is quick.
Definitely a must when you have a chance to travel to Sydney!
Fantastic Eggs blini and Devon on the Rocks! This is a place you never want to miss!Hope I can stay in SYD longer so I can meet some more unexplored tastes.
Great food, albeit pretty pricey. Nice comfy space as well. Place wasn't overly crowded for a Saturday lunch, which was a pleasant surprise. Maybe I was just lucky.
Every time I’m about to cook an egg, I think of Devon. There’s just something special about the eggs I’ve had here, its amazing something so simple can be done so well!
Tip: parking is always an issue on weekends so come early !
I highly recommend this place to have either breakfast or lunch. The food very tasty. Only things that make me hesitate to come back here is the price. The food is very expensive. I order 2 dishes, 1 cake follow the photos plus 2 coffee. For 2 people
Cost me 97$ !!!!
Very flavoursome! Matcha cake not too sweet. Love it ! Very flavoursome! Matcha cake not too sweet. Love it ! Very flavoursome! Matcha cake not too sweet. Love it !

Breakfast with the Sakuma’s

The croissant is serviced with a huge omelette filled with authentic seafood! The taste of freshly cooked seafood plus the crispy croissant is brilliant! and as for the Sakuma’s, I really enjoy the salmon! The skin is grilled crisply but the inside is still very juicy! I would def recommend this place to everyone!!!

The tomato symphony is unexpectedly good with special taste that I have never had before. The matcha cake is also good and not too sweet. The cafe is small and cute with a window facing the street. Really good experience. They deserves the high ratings!
Also tried their truffle season special menu. The food tasted great but have no taste of truffle although there were plenty of them on top lol. Overall excellent brunch for sure!
Devon is my favourite place for brunch. One of my friends agrees and has been back 4 times this past month. Buckwheat blini, breakfast with sakumas and poke bowl are my favourite. Barista boy on weekends is also very cute hehe
We loved Devon in Surry hills. The menu was different and delicious - including açai bowls. Hibiscus tea and miso grilled salmon. The service was great. Would definitely come here again.
Came here with a friend to try those pretty pancakes that everyone has tried. The dish was very nice and sweet (but not overly sweet), their drinks are also very nice as well as the seating area in the back which was very cute.A really different vibe than from their barangaroo store so would highly recommend a visit even if you have tried that one!
Devon cafe has a great ambience, every dish is personalised and is different from the other. The flavours are unique and still tasty, however, I believe that adding some more vegetarian and vegans options would make this cafe more attractive.
Lucky it wasn't busy around noon. They guided us to sit at the outdoor area at the back. Order matcha latte and truffle cheese fries(limited due to the truffle season). The chip was crunchy and hot covered with melted cheese and shaving of truffle was so nice and fulfilling if you eat by yourself. The staff was really nice and lovely.
I can see what attracts the hype of this place. Small cafe with a hidden back seating area that's blended with elements of green and the outdoors. I love the idea and the uniqueness of their dishes. Food was decent in quality and flavour but nothing really stood out from the dishes. I normally go to places for the taste and quality of the food but for what you pay for, I won't be back.
However if you want to maintain the standard of your Instagram Cafe Food Feed, then Devon is definitely the place for you!
It is one of the place that changed my mind about brunch. It is great brunch spot.
Versatile and wide range of option and no super prices either. The customer service was very friendly and quick to react
Hey @DevonCafe, you guys have three shops in Sydney and one in Jakarta, when are you opening one in Perth 😘? Soonish? Pretty please?
Devon's Matcha Cake 🌱🍰 was so soooo delicious, the sweetness vs bitterness ratio was exactly how I liked my matcha desserts 😍! The matcha ganache was just warm enough to break the tempered matcha chocolate disc on top, combining with the fluffy matcha sponge and creamy matcha mousse it was truly matcha heaven on a spoon 🌱🍦🍫! Gotta matcha 'em all!
We also enjoyed our miso grilled salmon 🐟🌿🥚, it was cooked well and the furikake mix was interesting. Salad had a zingy dressing and 63oC egg was perfectly runny. I didn't mind the croquette although I couldn't really detect smoked eel in the filling.
Devon is my favorite brunch cafe to be honest. I have been here for a number of times. Me and my friends very like it.The foods are very delicious and fresh without an uncomfortable waiting time. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The only thing that i dont like of devon is the tables are small.
One of my favourite brunch joints in Sydney so far! This cafe is always so packed, I've been here on three occasions and I've always needed to wait in line, but honestly it's very understandable and well-worth the wait. I always go around prime lunch-times so I normally wait around ~30-1 hour for seats for two. I love the cute setting/ambience at the back of the cafe with its heated outdoor/indoor terrace backyard.
Definitely one of the places that changed my mind about brunch. The Breakfast with Sakuma's was absolutely perfect and combination of flavours truly complements each other. Heard the other items on the menu aren't as amazing so defs would recommend the salmon and croquette.
Went here on two separate occasions recently (the kitchen ran out of truffle the first time round so I was determined to come back again) - on my first visit ordered the breakfast with sakumas dish which was pleasant to eat, the flavours worked well together but my salmon was a bit over cooked for my liking. Also ordered a side of fries and omg the fries were so so good and crispy would recommend! second time I ordered the bruschetta dish (which was average), the blini dish (which was pretty nice), the truffle toastie which was really yum, truffle fries 😍😍😍 so good and the DMC which was also really nice. Overall had a good feed and so glad that Devon comes out with a truffle menu 👏🏿👏🏿
Love love love Devon and their truffle creations! Of course they have plenty of other amazing seasonal dishes but we visit more often during winter truffle season! Mentaiko Squid ink pasta is a must!
Little bit squashy to fit a pram but they have high chairs.
Definitely one of my favourite brunch spots in Surry Hills! Love that they’ve changed up some of their menu here and there! Prices are on the pricier side for brunch, but the quality and service is defs amazing! Highly recommend this place! I used to come here when they also did devon by night, probably a couple years back! I still come here for brunch! Honestly their menu and food is really good! Highly recommend this place!
Ordered breakfast with the Sakuma’s and Little lost bread. The salmon was very remarkable, it was tender and flavorful. I personally love miso so much, so it might be a bias. The little lost bread was comparable to brioche berry from the Hardware societe in Melbourne. They tasted a bit alike. I also love the ambience of the place, it’s very artsy and edgy. Will def come back on my next visit to Sydney.
2nd visit: came back after 2 years!! Tried the steak menu and indo sandos, still prefer the breakfast with the sakuma & the croissant with lobster omelette. Amazing!
Food is fantastic! The salmon have the best smooth texture that i hardly could explain in words. The croquette has a perfect crunchy texture even though it was a bit burnt, but it wasnt a big deal, as it still tastes nice. The matcha latte is so so. The burger is beautiful! It has a special sauce like mayo (but i dont think it is a mayo) and that sauce is perfect! The chips are too thick, i hope they can provide thinner and more crunchy chips. Staffs are amazingly friendly. We were asked "how is everything? Hope you guys enjoy the food" simple but approaching. We were here on saturday 12th May and the cafe is not too quite and not too busy. You will not get a drama on complicated queue. It saves time+ amazing food +staffs are friendly. My only suggestion is, your cafe needs renovation. Put some decorations! Your cafe deserve those! 😃 overall, i love it. Will definitely come back!😃
Yes another cafe with a seasonal menu. I had their truffle mushroom with egg on sourdough toast - could not fault it. And their french toast with caramalised banana and ice cream; talk about a heart attack waiting to happen! They always have something exciting and fresh to try on their menu, in the different locations. A must visit place.
Went this place like two years ago. Would love to visit again. Nice staff and great taste. Dessert was well presented although quiet sweet. Can’t remember others
The ambiance 3/5
Although they don't have outside seatings, the backyard seatings are quite cozy and bright.
The service 2.5/5
This brunch probably is the first brunch restaurant I tried when I came here and at that time I didn't how to order dishes at all. Their waitress was not really patient and she didn't want ot offer the table at backyard for us.
The food 3.5/5
Linguine with truffle is okay but not as good as the waitress claimed.
Salmon on the pancake is standard and normal.
The affogato 3/5
The grounds of the city has better affogato! Here, It is just normal.
Their Little Lost Bread was excellent! The French toast inside was perfectly cooked. Quite delicious! I love the strawberry sauce as well. It was mild and not too sweet as I thought, the taste was balanced very well. I added the bacon as sides since the staff strongly recommended, and it was good too. The matcha latte was in average level, nothing to talk about. For the second time I ordered the crab omelette, which was a large one with the croissant , I was almost full with this and it tastes wonderful too! My friend had the Little Lost Bread this time and she said it was amazing!
Tried more on their new menu two days ago. The boba ice cream was too sweet, and boba was a bit rough so I won’t recommend this. But their omurice was precisely hitting the spot! Love it with wagyu! The pasta was rough but the cream sauce was nice.
Interesting offerings at Devon. Twists provided on breakfast staples and definitely breaking some food boundaries in terms of ingredient combinations. I ordered the eggs blini ($23) consisting of buckwheat pancakes, poached eggs, cured salmon, salmon caviar and broccolini (probably less adventurous than other offerings on the menu). All components cooked well and texturally interesting together. Thumbs up on the texture of the buckwheat pancakes. The dish was maybe a little strong on the fish scent for me, which was the only drawback. I’ll have to come back to try other offerings. Service was a little rude and rushed (but that feels quintessentially like Surry...).
Went here on sunday morning and it was full of people. I was expecting for a really good brunch but ended up disspointed because it didn’t meet my expectation. The mains and dessert were overrated.
Atmosphere is bustly but it's not much echo so easy to talk in. Staff were nice and attentive to drinks. Only one bill which is a shame! I had the lobster omelette and it was beautiful. The egg was cooked just right with the middle still silky and just cooked! Great seafood flavour and generous portion
This place is really individual and interesting. They approach food in a very different way. I've been here about 15 times over 3-4 years and I get food/brunch/lunch. I don't eat any of their sweet foods but they look magical.
The menu changes a lot and has thoughtful names, I used to like the Ogre's Breakfast which had a black chorizo sausage with eggs and some kind of salad. There are many inventive dishes which might include salmon and asparagus, or be a field mushroom and truffle and mozzarella toasted sandwich.
Coffee is fine, it's at the level expected of trendy Surry Hills.
Definitely try this place! Beware lots of the food is very rich and the queues on weekends can be intimidating.
The 'Little Lost Bread' has always been an absolute favourite of mine. A great atmosphere, pretty garden and gorgeous food aesthetic, a Sydney cafe fave of mine
Although quite pricy, but the food, staff, and ambience were awesome. In particular, the sakuma was extraordinary. Will definitely visit the place again.
One post work out Saturday morning, I decided to indulge in a hearty brunch. Devon's zucchini bowl was the perfect food for my craving. With a combination of zucchini flowers and spiralled zucchinis, this dish is perfect for zucchini lovers!
Devon cafe adds a contemporary twist to brunch favourites. Their use of technical skills from dry-freezing watermelon and adding extra flavour to the toast by pan grilling, whipping feta, altogether portrays their cooking expertise in heightening each food element. A slight downside is the limited menu options. Overall a quality cafe!
Croissant Saint - Denis

They got crab and salmon on top of the omelette. The sauce tastes alike lobster sauce and is really a perfect combination with the omelette💫💫 #foodie #foodporn #sydneyfoodies #hongkongfoodie #brunch #croissantlover #croissant #eggs #egglover #omelette #crab #crabmeat #salmon #fishroe #syndey #surryhills #devon #devoncafe #hskygd
Food is always delicious here even though I've always had to wait to get a table there. I would recommend Breakfast at the Sakumas and Little Lost Bread; they are both always delicious. Their soft serve with chips are a savoury sweet delight. The only draw back to this quaint little restaurant is the service, often being so packed with people service is slow and staff don't notice you immediately.
A lovely place with delicious & unique foods.
This place was on my ‘to-go list’ for my Sydney trip, so I dragged my sister along to try out their brunch menu. Everything we ordered was simply delicious- we couldn’t find a fault in any of the food we had ordered. We got the Crab Omelette croissant with a side of Avocado and the Little Lost Bread. Food came out promptly and the staff were so friendly and attentive- always quietly changing the water jug for our table. Overall, the cafe had a really cute and humble atmosphere & I would love to return again sometime to try out their other menu items.
Been here a few times and impressed every single meal. Chai latte and crossiant were really nice, service was great and diligent without asking. Always a pleasure. A great cozy place to relax.
Ambience is lovely, as is the service. I’ve only tried the “Little Lost Bread” so far but I was thoroughly pleased with the taste and how it was plated. I would definitely like to return to try more of the menu. It’s good to note that they do have a 10% surcharge on Sundays though. Ventilation is also much nicer at the front of the cafe.
As one of the pricer cafe in Sydney, Devon justifies their price premium with the use of expensive ingredients in their dishes such as caviar on their egg omelette. Whilst the uses of these ingredients are not exactly necessary and can be considered be a gimmick, nevertheless the food at Devon is delicious.
Ordered cold brew, crab meat omelette with croissant as my brunch. cold brew was good with a hints of chocolate flavor. omelette was an average dispite the used of expensive ingredients.
Consistent as always! Coffee was really good, chicken burger was juicy and saucy, and the wicked chips! Matcha cake was so light and sauce was highlight to cake, but I found it very pricey for its taste. I wouldn’t order matcha cake again, that I know for sure! Other dishes though another story:)

Try their summer menu.. triple black .. what an art for me to see the plating and the colour of the food.. it’s squid ink pasta with squid ink cheese sauce, fennel and calamari.. you will like it if you like seafood..
If you love truffle, this is the cafe to be! The food was amazing and we loved everything about it.
Cafe - It had a cute hip vibe about it. Atmosphere was nice, interior was interesting with a graffiti wall out at the back.
Food - Amazing. They have a set truffle menu or you can pick from the A la carte menu. We chose the Truffle Wagyu Sando (wagyu was medium rare) and was perfect, Truffle Hash, Breakfast with Sakuma’s. (being a signature and definitely a popular dish that day) and the Truffle Mie Goreng which I though was super delicious and full or flavour!
Overall - The price was affordable, food was definitely delicious and full of flavour and cafe was nice, clean and the environment was friendly great for different occasions.
I had lunch with my friend today. We got seated in the back which was awesome because it was more spacious and private.
I ordered the Spicy fried chicken Mi Goreng, iced lychee ice tea and kaya toast.
I enjoyed the Mi Goreng, very tasty but the chicken was a little too salty. The portion size was massive. I think my favourite was the kaya toast! Super creamy and yummy, toast with coconut jam (best as dessert) or snacks 😍😍😍
I was happy with the service this time, last time wasn’t so pleasant however they have redeemed themselves today as last time they didn’t take my order when I was sitting by myself for lunch. I hope that this doesn’t happen again.
Today the ladies was super friendly. The service was super fast and the food was super yummy ✅
This cafe is only 5 minute from Central train station.
Great place if you're after Japanese fusion cafe food. It's a short walk from central station and it's not too crowded around lunch time. The truffle brunch experience is worth trying out if you love truffles but it may be too much if you tried. I recommend trying the truffle fries and the Wagyu steak with truffle if you find that the brunch experience sounds like a lot of food. The staff are very helpful and the wait times for food is really fast.
One of the first few places that I visit regularly since 2013 and where all the fancy brunch started. The food here constantly impressed me with their asian fusion brunch that is innovative, unique yet tasty. The brunch here has french, Japanese, Malaysian and asia fusion in it and they are one of the first few cafe that start truffle brunch menu. Love that they are bringing back all their classic OG menu back like the Dr Seuss Green Egg and ham and the mentaiko Pasta. The Little lost bread (strawberry french toast) has return back from back in the days. Food here was quite fancy and delish and I always enjoy the brunch experience here. Sadly it will close in mid Apr but luckily their Barangaroo and the North Sydney store still around.
This was recommended by someone who turned out have never actually eaten here... Despite that, it was a very pleasant surprise as the food was superb.. It is a Japanese Cafe putting a twist to modern Australian food. When in doubt order their notable signature meals... I had ordered the sakuma salmon breakfast meal.. You can't do wrong with salmon and avocado. I also had the burger which was very tender and juicy.. Fully recommend this place for people looking for something different
