Been coming here for many years now and never fails to produce the best Slovak food ever! It’s great to have an authentic, great tasting Slovak eatery in Sydney especially as one as good as Tommy’s! 10/10 recommend
Gets an extra point for being doggie friendly. The sausage platter was yum as was the giant pork schnitzel and the duck was also a standout. Been a few times and always good. Get the passion fruit beer if your a cider fan - so good!
Possible real rating: 3.5/5
Winter can be brutal-ish in Sydney. So Eastern European food can cure the winter blues!
The small joint is cute and intimate. Well it is Glebe! We were told that our table, which I book a couple of days in advance, was upstairs. For drinks, I decided to get a special... mulled wine! A pure delight!
For entree, we decided to share the one metre sausage! And it was one metre! Oh my! Tasted pretty good but nothing special.
For main, I decided to get the Hungarian veal goulash, even though it is a Czech establishment! Veal was tender. Nicely spiced. The bread dumpling thing was soft. A true revelation!Tommy's is a nice establishment if you are after a heavy Euro grub in Glebe! I would probably come back. The all Czech staff could of been friendlier. I guess walking upstairs to carry heavy plates of food would probably ruin your emotional being!
Haven't been here in a few years and thought it's due to visit this place again. I'm so glad I did! One of the best meals I've had in a little while. Each dish served to us was freshly made and so scrumptious. Even though they were busy, our meals were served in a timely manner with no delays. I walked away feeling happy and more than satisfied. If you have never tried or looking for a good Czech and Slovakian restaurant, it can't get better than this. I highly recommend this place.
Dish 1: Freshly made pretzel
Dish 2: Roasted Duck with sweet red cabbage
Dish 3: Mixed platter with mash, sweet red cabbage and sauerkraut
Dessert: Apple strudel with vanilla ice cream, strawberries and cream
Drinks: Gluhwine (German mulled wine) and Budbar (Czech Beer)

My previous favourite place for schnitzel and goulash was a Czech place but it shut down and maybe Tommy can't quite match the juicyness of the schnitzel and thickness of the batter but this is still better than any of the German places in Sydney. With mash and cabbage, the schnitzel is even good value. The goulash had really tender beef. Urquell on tap!
Though not labelled as a Czech restaurant, this place serves authentic Czech cuisine. My only gripe is tables a little close together and people bumping past me as I sat near the door. Other than that, food, drink and service here are excellent.
This is our 3rd visit here and we have always been happy with our meals.
This time round we ordered svieckova and pork belly. Both dishes were great. Good portion size, so we left feeling very satisfied!
Great place and ambiance. Loved the cottage feel of the place. The Swiss Veal Schnitzel was a treat. Paired with a great beer and we've got a winning combo.

What a way to cool down then to go to Tommy's and have a cold beer and some food to eat, whilst sitting in the cool. As soon as you walk through the door, this place was buzzing with diners. The wait staff gets you at the door and tells you to sit anywhere you want, came with the menu but took quite sometime for them to get back to collect your order.
Anyhow...
When they finally took our order, we ordered a beer each to stay off with. The Golden Peasant was quite pleasant to drink, given that I seldom drink beer. My friend ordered the Czech cut, a dark beer that was surprisingly smooth in taste and a hint of sweetness.
We ordered one pretzel to share, that came out nice and warm with a small block of butter and a sausage platter. This was enough for two as it was stinking hot, and we didn't have a huge appetite. Went down nicely with the beers we ordered.
Anyhow... this month the have their limited Communist menu that I was interested in trying. The irony was... we never even bothered ordered from the specials menu after all that! Maybe this is an excuse for us to go back and try other stuff on their menu.
If you come here, say in a group of four, their metre long sausage looked like it was ordering. Maybe it could even feed two of the two parties were extra hungry!
One of the best beer gardens in Sydney. Great European Beers / Food and Friendly Staff. Always feel welcome here. A great casual place to unwind and have a few beers.
Great beer and European food! Nowhere else to do get the authentic experience from a bar/restaurant in Sydney as most (if not all ) these types of restaurants have disappeared.
For the traditional dishes I would have a small breakfast/lunch as you won't be hungry when you leave.
The beer, best in Sydney.
Tommy's is great. If you have time, have a chat with Tommy. You won't regret it.
I visited Tommys last night and had a great night. Beautiful food, great selection of Czech beers. The service was fantastic and very friendly. The decor was very European and the massive beer garden would be a great idea on hot summer days to relax and enjoy a refreshing beer. I would not hesitate to recommend Tommys to anyone.
The atmosphere in the main room is quite good - the side room is a bit lacking. I ordered the Hunter Schnitzel with veal without crumbs and was quite impressed! The plate had a 'homemade' feeling about it and the veal was cooked to perfection. The mashed potato was delicious as was the mushroom sauce - albeit a tad bit salty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A negative point was the fruit flies buzzing around our table. All in all it was a good experience.
I love the Hunter Schnitzel, the mushroom sauce is really good. The portion is huge for me! The beer is good. I recommend people to try this place.
Very friendly and nice service. The food here is tasty. I had the Roasted Duck. It had a good flavour and bread dumplings and braised red cabbage went well with it.
The chefs have really taken pub food to another level. Absolutely amazing!!! If you're in Glebe, definitely give this a go. Great ambience, great drinks list, great food.
Went here and had the buffalo cheek slow cooked in Ale and the meat platter. Cheek was beautiful as was the duck. Nice range of beer from Europe also which was great. Perfect place to go for lunch or dinner with great service and great food.

Cool little bier cafe in Glebe. Almost a hidden gem if not located on the main strip.
They serve one of my favourite Weiss Beers! Franziskaner! This beer reminds me of bacon! Don't ask me why.
Schnitzels are a good companion to the beers available.
Staff are friendly and more than happy to explain the types of beer and what food would best suit.
Schnit: Mixed Schnitzel platter.
SchnitMyDadSays has long been a fan of Tommy's but it has never truly blown us away, until tonight's crumbed delight was served up.
Beautifully prepared, the three meats were perfectly cooked - it was tough to pick our favourite. Supporting these golden beasts were a generous number lemon wedges, and beautifully creamy mushroom sauce served on the side - very welcome additions: this should be Schnitzel 101 but many places miss the beat here. Some hearty roast potatoes served among diced roasted red onion and miscellaneous pickled vegetables were all on par.
Without a doubt this is the best Schnitzel platter I've ever experienced - deliciously fresh from first bite to last. Great variety and served in an authentic European style. Thanks Tommy's - our faith in The Good Word of the Schnitzel is restored!
Struggling to fault this one, perhaps a slightly thinner meat would have improved the meat cloud texture that we love so much. Great stuff, great Schnit!

We stumbled upon this place in Glebe's 'Eat Street'. Great hospitality, serving fantastic european cuisine. We had the meat sharing platter which we great! Also I would recommend trying their mango beer. This is a great place to take your friends for some casual dining. ✌ @foodiesguidetosydney
Great pork knuckles. A bit pricey, but its worth it. We were recommended by a friend, Loved the weise German beer as well. Good service too.
Great food, loved the prok crackling pieces on the entre menu, good pricing alsp, and of course loved the schnitzels and euro beers on offer, uch cheaper and on par with Lowenbrau imo!.. a definite revisit :)
Creator of the infamous one meter long sausage, just the name Tommy's Beer Cafe brings to mind vivid images of "man-food", images of meat, beer and more meat. Sure enough there was no salad or light dinner option for the dainty section of the female populous. Having said that, who would be craving a garden salad next to a succulent serving of pork belly? No ordinary human I suspect, let alone a budding foodie like myself.
Came here in a group of 12 people the other night and the diner was spacious enough to cater us all comfortably. Although the staff were not particularly warm or friendly they served us timely and efficiently. The interior was cosy and the lighting relatively dim; a good place to hang out with mates.
Meanwhile the menu lists an impressive selection of European dishes. Amongst our orders were the pork belly, the hunter schnitzel and the svickova (braised eyefillet served with steamed dumplings). The latter was my dish and I admit my initial reaction was one of disappointment when it arrived. While all the other dishes were well presented the svickova resembled somewhat like a puddle of orange liquid of unknown nefarious origin (refer to pictures). I suggest the staff to serve the root sauce in a separate mini gravy jug as to not compromise on the aesthetics of the plate. However, all misgivings were forgotten upon digging into the dish. It was absolutely delicious! Homely and filling I enjoyed every morsel. The braised fillet was so tender and came apart easily and the root vegetable sauce complimented the ensemble perfectly.
Definitely recommend this diner to pub-food lovers and non lovers alike. Even as a frequent salad orderer I really enjoyed eating here and would come back again for sure.
This is a great place to grab an European meal. The special on the Monday was meter long sausage served in a wooden trencher. It was pretty awesome and only $16.99 (it's more other nights of the week). However despite the awesomeness of this offering I opted for the Svitckova which is a Czech dish that is yum! Also I love the dumplings it comes with. It was a very good version too. Hubby had the pork belly which was excellent and the kids the snitz- of course! We all then shared a dessert of sweet strawberry filled dumplings drenched in butter. Super delicious! I would definitely recommend this place, the vibe is good, the food is good and it even has Kofola! Yes Kofola! If you don't know what it is, then rush down to try it's cola deliciousness!
It's crumbling. I love having schnitzel, so that's why I ordered the swiss veal schnitzel witch is crumbed veal escallops topped with melted cheese and smoked ham, served with french fries, salad and gherkin aioli and it was good, apart from the salad witch had no dressing on it
Tommy's Beer Cafe is a small joint down Glebe Point Rd, more further down from the busy end close to Parramatta Road. It was date night once again and my boyfriend was in the mood for some good beer. He was keen to try "German beer" as apparently it tastes better (I wouldn't know as I don't like beer... Maybe it's an acquired taste? Probably). But alas, Tommy's Beer Cafe is actually Eastern European and not German - well, he didn't really mind as long as he got his beer ;) There was some cute deco going on at the tables in the form of the pot plant.
For mains I ordered a roast duck, it was so crispy and flavoursome: Mmmmm, how clearly I can remember that taste, it makes me hungry just thinking about it. My brothers meanwhile had this: For Christopher, a crumbed veal schnitzel with ham and cheese. He let me taste it, and I did not regret doing so. Elijah had a sausage platter, he would not let me touch it, so it must have been pretty good.
Are you wondering where to go for Oktoberfest in Sydney? Well, I have kindly volunteered to do some market research to help you find the best place to go. My suggestion, pork knuckle down and
My sausage platter was a triumph. Being a food-blogger, I'm not sure I'm meant to admit to this, but I adore frankfurts.
Tommy's Beer Cafe in Glebe is a definite must try for those who love beer, crackling and sausages. Prices are reasonable and it's definitely great value for the massive servings!

It's the stuff that dreams are made of. A whole bowl of pork crackling for only $4.20. It's a tangle of pork skin strips, deep-fried until bubbled and blistered, the long shoe string strips helplessly intertwined with each other in a porcine and cholesterol lovefest. Inside Tommy's Beer Cafe Tommy's Beer Cafe is one of a slew of newcomers to open up on Glebe Point Road. There's a German beer hall feel to the place but the menu extends across much of Eastern Europe, including Slovakia, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. Bernard dark lager $5 for 0.33L and Snake bite lager and mango syrup $7.90 for 0.5L Crackling goes with beer and beer goes with crackling. Our only problem is that the crackling arrives twenty minutes after our beers have been poured and we're nearing the bottom of our glasses. The snake bite is a little heavy on the mango syrup, rendering the lager helplessly sweet, but I'm a fan of my Bernard dark lager from the Czech Republic, which has a nutty coffee and malt f

As the name suggests, your meal here is as much about beverages as it is food.
Friday!. Can't go past the Friday lunch special pork knuckle!
Slow Deep-Fried Schnitties. We had schnitzels and pilsner at Tommy's.
The service seemed good enough, though not as good as before. We thought the ambience and seating could be better; indeed, the smoke wafting into the restaurant was very unpleasant.
The food wasn't too bad; and, though nothing on the menu has changed since our last visits, it is a shame to see that the menu now seems to be option-poor and does not offer much in the way of balanced dishes. The food arrived very slowly but the beer kept us busy, for better or for worse. The schnitzels, served with mash and salad, seemed as though they were deep fried as opposed to shallow, pan fried; but, they tasted decent enough, if a rich and stodgy.
On balance, we'll probably not be rushing back to Tommy's in the coming months. The variety of alcoholic beverages is always a drawcard, as are their specials; however, even their variety of beers and moderately priced meat-rich dishes can become boring after a while.
Big serving and great value for a voucher. We had the pork knuckle tasting platter with streudel to share and the pretzels - was soooo filling we took some home as we couldn't finish them.
Very tasty and different. Good choices of beer too.
Thumbs up for mixed platter. We had the mixed platter (duck, pork belly and schnitzel) and would highly recommend if you're tossing up between several items on the menu. The pork belly was fantastic with excellent crackling, and the schnitzel also very good. My friend liked the schnitzel best however I thought it could have done with a bit more crumb. The duck was tasty, a little bit dry but that's if I'm being critical. I also liked very much the underlying red cabbage saukerkraut which added lots of sweetness and oomph. We also had something beginning with sch... can't remember how to spell it. Basically it was beef with bread dumplings and creamy sauce (the taste of which reminded me of a Macca's cheeseburger and pickle, in a good way, but tangier and richer). This kind of food is usually quite heavy and rich for me (I like my veggies) so I'd recommend getting a mixed platter as the saukerkraut balances the meats well. Nice service and prompt delivery of food too.
Generous portions and very filling. We came here for an early dinner and even at the time we came there were people eating or just having some beer/snacks. We ordered the pork crackling and the buffalo cheeks to start then the mixed platter and the giant pork schnitzel but they all came at once.
Beef cheeks were tender (they also have this as a main size), the giant pork schnitzel was indeed quite large and it was good that I was sharing this with my mum as I would not be able to eat this alone. My husband enjoyed his mixed platter but didn't really enjoy the duck as he felt it was a but dry. I did like the red cabbage that came underneath the duck though. The pork crackling would be the perfect accompaniment to beer! We were so full that we couldn't even think of dessert.
Friendly service and they have highchairs for bubs.
Great atmosphere, great food. Just finished up our dinner for four and it was fantastic. Their service was attentive and personal. Their food, schnitzels, strapicky, and Edam schnitzel were very tasty and freshly prepared. We have dined there several times and tried something new every time and we are never disappointed. Well worth it.
Good Feed. Went here to have a chat mainly. Staff were really pleasant. The food was good, very filling and lots on the plate. Nice atmosphere and was packed for a Wednesday night. Dont go if youre on a diet!
Great food, waited a bit too much. I went to the cafè with my boyfriend on Friday night, at about 7.30. We ordered pork belly and buffalo cheek. Washed everything down with a couple of beer (I had the cherry one. Definitely recommended if you REALLY like cherries). We had to wait almost an hour for the food to arrive, but when it did, it was really good. The buffalo meat was sooo tender! The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was good. Definitely worth it!
Haters can suck it!. This place is great food, great ambience, and great service.
The hubby and I are both half German, and appreciate the food as super authentic and well worth it.
We love to go for a few drinks and just a nibble as well, as the crowd are always friendly, the staff treat us like old friends and the drink choices are yummy.
Get some schnitzel and schnapps in to ya. Love this joint.
The most succulent chicken schnitzel I've ever had! The staff were checking on us regularly and the selection of beers is impressive!
Definitely worth a go!
Awesome. One of my favorite places in Sydney. Awesome food and great beer! Always busy n popular. It's small n cozy, much better than the other one in potts point.
Delicious. Diagnosis - good dogs.
I went to Tommy's Beer Cafe as it is in the entertainment book buy 1 main meal get One free. There wasn't much atmosphere but I put that down to it being a Tuesday night.I find German food can be a little bland sometimes but after I ordered the mixed platter my opinion changed. The tasting platter of veal schnitzel on mash, roasted duck on red cabbage and pork belly on sauerkraut was fantastic. I highly recommend the platter as you get to try a bit of everything and the quantity was large, I couldn't finish it. Good value for money even without the voucher plus they have discounted specials on weekdays. Next time I will come on a weekend and plan to try a few more beers.
Best German in Sydney!. We were a group of 8, some food critics others not so, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the range of food items on the menu compared to other German restaurants.
Most of the boys had the platter which comes with duck, schnitzel and pork belly, I had the duck sausages which were so amazingly tasty - especially the sauce that comes with it. There is nothing bland about this German food! Portion sizes are good and so too are the prices; about $50pp inc beers. We will be back! Thanks Tommy's!
Attentive service, amazing beer and terrific food. Superior to the belgian beer cafe and the lowenbrau. They also have seasonal specials towards the end of the week that I look forward to trying in the future. Can't wait to go again soon.
Great warm and friendly service makes you feel like a regular on just the first visit. Anything pork or schnitzel related makes for perfect late week fare. I've been there 4 times now and like it even more.
Excellent beer and food. Upon entering this place, we noticed the stylish bar on the left, and greeted by one of the friendly waiters. This place has a European feel to it, the bar, the tables & the decorations. I ordered Czech Cut beer, which is a blend of half Bernard Lager and half Bernard Dark and it was fantastic, not too sweet, not too bitter. The next beer I ordered was Pilsner beer, and it was also good. We had Buffalo Cheek, Crumbed Champignons, and Potato Pancake for the side dishes, then we had Hungarian Veal Goulash, Pork Belly, and Roasted Duck for the main. We had Bohemian Crepes for the dessert and we could not find anything bad about the food. They were all just great. Definitely will be back for some more.
Bruno Ferrari. I love visiting new places and this one is so jaw dropping i even took my time to write this review :)
it has genuine european atmosphere with amazing beer witch, of course, must be a common matter for a place like that. what i wanna point out is the food. and the absinth selection.
I had schnitzel, 7 beers and 2 absinths (one czech set on fire and one swiss with icy fountain) and felt happy.
BEST BEER RESTAURANT. Best beer, best food and most friendly hospitality in Sydney
Beer with ease. Cool place for a relaxed non pub environment. something new in Glebe to be happy to go to for a great taste, definite food satisfaction and great beer from czech and slovak , yummy yummy, will be back for more and more, thanks for coming to my area
Hangover cure. Once an organic vegan restaurant, this prime position on Glebe Point Road has been reborn as a German/Eastern European Beer Garden. As we stopped well before the sun was over the yard arm, we stuck to the breakfast menu. Hazelnut nutella crepes gave me a sugar hit to kick off the day, while Mr TC stuck to the relatively more healthy ham and cheese croissant. However, the more substantial menu offerings (Italian, Slovak, French and Norweigian styles), together with the decent coffee, will no doubt be welcomed by those who overindulged the night before.
I Discover this place thanks to my Czech girlfriend. I was a bit skeptical to try It at first but now I want to go every weeks!
The quality of the food is TOP TOP TOP!! everything is delicious and the portions are quite big! the beer is amazing and they serve it in the typical pint jars!
I have meet the owner quite a few times and he is very cool, always making sure we have a great time!
5 stars!
Lovely lunch today at Tommy's. Staff extremely welcoming. The food made me miss my family and the beer selection was great! Definitely recommend. Not too far from Broadway. Czech food done right!! Will be back!
Been here a few times and it's always busy. This place has a rustic European feel to it. We didn't make a booking but they managed to squeeze us in. The service is very friendly, the food is nice, good portions and decent price for what you get.
Loved it. Great European food, great beer, and friendly staff. You know it's authentic when the staff talk to the locals in another language 😂. Cafe wouldn't be out of place somewhere in Eastern Europe.
Victor and Sofia are amazing hosts at this quiet little Gem tucked away south end of Glebe Point Rd...
Sadly a very wet night but fantastic rear Beer Garden would be ideal for larger family gatherings or friends...
DON'T let the tranquil quiet frontage fool you...
The Mushroom sauce is like nowhere else..
Beer choose is an education from the boring "conventional" normal choice at the suburban Sydney Pub...
Chicken snitzal was delicious ! Pretzel was nice and soft inside and was delicious too with the butter. Heaps of beer options available. We ready enjoyed the food here.
Found this place after all the other bar kitchens in the area had closed. Their kitchen closes at 10:30
Unique Eastern European-inspired interior with delicious generously portioned meals.
Victor and the blonde waitress were extremely friendly and made our night.
We will be back.
My schnitzel was a bit too chewy, and I think it would be great if staff uniforms were implemented.
Very good Czech restaurant in Sydney. We were able to eat even without reservation (Sat evening). Quick service. Authentic Czech food! I had vepro knedlo zelo (pork, sauerkraut, dumplings) and it tasted so good! It transported me back to my home country. Huge portions. Parking possible at shopping mall nearby. (Visited Feb 22)
