Review Fat Noodle Sydney - Sydney

Donald Lui
Had a late dinner here last night. Haven't been back in about a year. Being a Saturday, the queue was very long. Luckily, we get to use the priority line, which only had one person in front, so we got seated very quickly. Each table now has a QR code which allows you to view the menu and order from your phone. Convenient because you don't need to get a staff member to take your order. Didn't try it though, so don't know if it works well or not. The menu has stayed relatively similar, so no surprises. The serving sizes have changed though. They're probably around 15%-20% smaller than they used to be, whilst prices have remained the same or even raised. Like, a Milk Tea is now $9! On a positive note, the food still tastes pretty good. Not amazing (especially considering the price) but with discounts, it's good enough. It's also still incredibly noisy, and cleanliness can be improved. My chair had food scraps from the table wipe (a simple dry wipe with no sanitising), and the table was slightly sticky. Another thing I didn't like, which Fat Noodle has little control over, is the behaviour of some of their customers. Based on multiple experiences, they often get customers who are seemingly drunk and overly rowdy like they're eating in a pub; shouting, yelling, randomly cheering for no apparent reason. Can't eat in peace.

The first thing I look at in a place is customer service... I guess that the service here is just amazing... the team is welcoming, prompt, very helpful and ready to make the experience really nice. The food is outstanding in terms of taste and presentation... It was worth the 15 mn walk on a freezing night 😊

Fast Service. The food was tasty and didn’t need extra seasoning! 10% off for members when you swipe your card! Below are member specials until the end of March! I do think I wouldn’t have paid the full price for those dishes if I didn’t receive the member discounts as they were very small portions!

I've eaten at fat noodle in Brisbane. I have to admit the standard of food, decor and service is all so much better in Brisbane. Sydney's fat noodle was just so disappointing. The twice cooked pork belly should have been called twice cooked pork fat. The amount of actual meat wouldn't have filled a tea spoon. The chicken ribs were barely cooked and one could certainly argue when you see blood that it isn't cooked. So I really can't recommend dining here. Hopefully they read the review and take on the feedback. There is a lot of room for improvement.

This is another one of my Favs, when at the Star Sydney, the food is great, fast and taste just wonderful. You can see the Chef's busy cooking your delights, service is always great too, its eat and go back to the Gaming Floor, nice and handy when you feel like a quick bite its just there, you can just about smell the flavours....

An Asian restaurant located at STAR Casino, Sydney. Met with my friends and tried a wide range of foods. The food quality was low and meet smells unpleasant. You need to make a booking otherwise you may wait for 30-45 min to be sited. Not recommended.

Not sure how others rated this place 5 stars. I went on a Saturday night, so you'd think they'd be staffed accordingly and ready for a busy night. Our food came pretty quick the drinks came 30 mins after (despite the constant reminding). Mistakes with the drinks on top of th waits. The flavour and dryness of every bit of the food(s). I personally had the pad Thai and it was really that bad. The pricing was off tap (as expected at the casino), the service was all smiles but slow as ever.

Very busy Easter Sunday, Long queue with about a 15 minute wait. To cut a long story short, food was below average ( have eaten there before) : Osso bucco massaman curry was full of Gristle and wagu beef with vegetables was a small portion and on the tough side. 15% Sting..I mean surcharge for a Public holiday despite a 10% membership discount,,, exorbitant prices for a disheartening meal. Staff did try their best at serving the food quickly, Lobster Special for the month of April, which everyone seemed to be having.

One of the best food u will eat everything was amazing and top quality and amazing waitresses, and especially the chief Albert

Fan of Luke Nguyen but definitely not a fan of Fat Noodle. Pho was not even pho at all - basically was a small serving of broken rice noodles in a beef soup with withered mint leaves. No hint of any Pho flavour. $21 got ripped off
Mary
i had high expectations that were unfortunately not fulfilled and the service wasn’t great at all! will definitely not be back
Mickey + Minnie
Had the pho and bun bo xao which were both nice but average. The meat in the bun bo xao was a little overdone and didn't have enough other garnishes to match.<br/>The pho beef was relatively thick and the soup had a strong cinnamon flavour.
Rere_86
I had their pad thai, beef pho, black pepper beef and hainan chicken rice. All of the food were tasteless. Pad thai was tough not even cooked properly. Beef pho and the black pepper beef, the beef were tough. Horrible food. Definitely not coming back.

It’s good! Vietnamese restaurant from the heart of city and in the Casino of The Star for people who loves Pho and Vietnamese food! There is also desserts in the restaurant! It’s so convenient!

Came here for the lobster special in June, ordered the $29.99 XO lobster with glass noodles. It came with a whole lobster, loved the tasty xo sauce, the meaty lobster and the sauce to mop up with the glass noodles. It was literally half price so great value. Also ordered the black pepper beef which is a signature dish, it was average, I did find the beef slightly tough, perhaps over cooked or not tender enough. <br/>The restaurant is inside the casino gaming floor itself so not the best ambience, would be keen to try the chef’s other restaurant in Surry Hills.
Strawberry_vee
I visited Fat Noodle for the Freshtival promotion as I’m a big seafood fan. I went there 3 times and the 1st time the lobster was fresh and flavourful. The last 2 times it wasn’t as fresh and the service was disappointing.

Situated in the heart of Star Casino, Fat Noodle is an amazing Asian restaurant serving average priced, deliciously-sounding dishes. <br/><br/>I ordered the chilli chicken small plate and it was good, however a little bit spicy. I regretted ordering it though after seeing all of the tasty looking soups and broths coming out of the kitchen - so next time I visit I would love to try one of those as I’ve heard great reviews about them! <br/><br/>Pictured below: <br/>NYONYA CRISPY CHICKEN - dried shrimp, tumeric pickled carrot & cucumber, chilli sauce $13

Their chicken Pad See Ew is really really good! Lots of flavor and the noodles are really soft. We also had the salt and pepper squid and that was nice and soft too. The food came out super quick and we were seated pretty quickly considering there was a bit of a line! I would definitely go back to try the other dishes
Aimee.
I found this place very average- just so so. It’s in the casino so I’m not surprised that the food and service was bland. We ordered two bowls of noodles which I wasn’t a fan of. Overall great location but not really worth your time.

A bloody shocker. Yes, I've been a huge fan of Luke Nguyen and Luke now has the dubious distinction of serving me an excellent (Red Lantern) and a terrible meal (Fat Noodle) ! Unfortunately, its the poor experience that I will remember and talk about. That’s the way it is.<br/><br/>Luke, why on earth do you associate yourself with an establishment that serves the Mee Goreng and Hainanese Chicken that you do at Fat Noodle ? A Mee Goreng that’s predominant flavour is of sweet tomatoes and is served pink ?!! Disgusting, my friend. It was disgusting. Yes, we did give feedback to the charming young man who waited on us. <br/>We’d normally have sent back a dish this bad to the kitchen (and get a refund) but it wasn’t worth our while. Our first and LAST time at Fat Noodle and maybe at any of your establishments. <br/><br/>Why am I angered at this experience ? Let me tell you - it wasn’t a minor balls up - it was a MAJOR balls up ! There is an expectation when one spends at a noted establishment. AND YOU FAILED US ! The Hainanese Chicken Rice - I make better at home in under an hour ! Where were any of those fab flavours one comes to expect in an HCR ? <br/><br/>The starters were the redeeming feature - Tofu, Shaking Beef and Squid is what we had. Thanks to the bottle of Pinot Grigio, the pain of your mains were ever so slightly numbed. But we remain scarred forever and you have disappointed us hugely. We were at FN last night (4/11 for dinner). Bosco was the charming young man who waited on us.

I have eaten here a couple times but never thought it was worthy of a review. This time, it exceeded all expectations hence the 4 star rating. The only reason why I'm not giving a 5 is because the waiter asked us to pay the bill before our food came out because it is a new policy. I asked the waiter if we could pay later as my partner was drinking and wanted to order more drinks to avoid confusion, but she was hesitant so we just paid straight away.<br/><br/>I initially ordered the watermelon juice but the waiter said it was unavailable (even though I already paid for it) so I ordered the ice mint and lime soda instead. I didn't like the drink. She charged me $7 for the watermelon juice but the mint soda was only $5.50. She only realised the difference in price after I pointed it out and returned $1.50.<br/><br/>The spring rolls were fresh, salt and pepper squid was full of flavour and had just the right amount of spice. The Angus Beef was also fresh and delicious but there was not enough meat compared to noodles... other than that, I can't complain.<br/><br/>Will definitely be coming back, next time I'm at The Star.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Had high hopes for this place as friends wanted to try it and thought it would be convenient as we were watching a show at The Star afterwards. Located on the main casino floor, we were promptly seated on the bench table. They took out drink and meal orders and drinks were brought out quickly. The service went from great to abysmal in a matter of moments.<br/><br/>Friends had ordered Salt & Pepper Silken Tofu, Fat Pho Noodles, and Vietnamese Bun Rieu. Tried a bite of tofu which was nice but they commented dishes were average for the amount paid. I had ordered Angus Beef and was advised by waiter it was delayed due to the items from the ‘Woks’ section taking longer. I observed many diners beside us arrive and receive their meals before we got anything. Eventually friends received their meals but it took another 15 minutes to receive mine (about 1 hour in total from time we ordered). I was on the verge of just cancelling my order. They had pretty much completed their small plate and meals. Had they not delivered it when they did I would have happily skipped my meal and given 1 star here.<br/><br/>When my bowl of beef on noodles arrived, I could not understand the delay. It was pretty much fried beef on top of the noodles with garnishes. I got a disingenuous apology for the delay and it was clear they totally messed our order up as I observed noodles from the ‘Wok’ section delivered to other tables before we got any of our meals. It seemed like a blatant attempt by the waiter to stall us. <br/><br/>Quite disappointed by the experience and would definitely recommend dining somewhere else in the casino if you want a timely meal.

Fat Noodle is in Star City, casino level. It is a restaurant by Luke Nguyen, serving primarily Vietnamese food as well as some Thai dishes. <br/>We tried the salt and pepper silken tofu for our entree, fried with fresh chilli and garlic. This was extremely good. <br/><br/>For the mains we had the fat pho noodles - the chefs signature beef broth with thinly sliced Angus sirloin and brisket, bean sprouts and rice noodles. The flavour was a bit off, too much star anise I think. <br/><br/><br/>We also had the bun Rieu - blue swimmer crab and pork meat ball, Vietnamese ham, puffy tofu, mixed herbs, cabbages, spicy shrimp a paste, rich tomato and vermicelli noodle broth.<br/><br/>We waited a long time and our dining partner got told his would be 25 minutes longer. His wok beef took over 45 minutes which is pretty bad given the size and level of busyness.

May 2017Yum !  Quick bite to eat, spring rolls (delish and 3 x large ones), prawn wonton noodle soup (scrummy!) and a couple of beers $47.50Will be back.

Staff are so rude here! The food’s not great either. Wouldn’t recommend coming here. The congee was bland, pho wasn’t tasty either. Would not recommend going there unless you are looking for hangover food or everything else is closed and it’s 3am
AdzTheFoodie
I have been going here frequently since it first opened. Can I start with saying it serves the best Laksa I have had in Sydney 😋 visited last week with 4 others. Food was amazing as expected! I ordered the salmon sashimi (was a little too thinly cut but delicious none the less - a wasabi sauce would have been nice with it) I also had the Angus beef dish without the noodles. It was fresh and delicious! (I was on a diet and they accommodated accordingly - hence no noodles) Service is very good and our waitress made it easy and was very polite and attentive. Will continue going back! I love you Fat Noodle! 🤗

We come here for dinner whenever we go to see a show in Lyric theatre, the Star casino because of my partner who is a big fan of it. But I always thought dishes are over priced and the service can be better. Yesterday would be my last visit to this restaurant as the service was appalling and a cockroach was crawling around our table. I was horrified with it. A rude waitress who first faces customers but treated them (includes us) waiting in line like worse than kindergarten kids to control the line. My partner's dish came almost when I finished mine about 15 minutes later. These are not acceptable in modern Australian restaurant scene. Not happy.
Thehappymedium
Really quick service, convenient and reasonably priced. The dishes were interesting and tasty, but nothing really mind-blowing. We ordered the salt and pepper tofu, mushroom noodles and crab rice paper rolls.
Eileen Qian
Really love the beef pho! It's so tasty with the slice of Angus beef and briskets, I like the rice noodle with chilli sauce. <br/><br/>The Hananese chicken seems nice too.

Mark and James’ Kiwi uber driver recommended coming to Fat Noodle for our pre-theatre dinner, on a Monday night (the show, the final Hats Off fundraiser was SO good, an incredible array of performers from the world of musicals and shows). Going through the food court, it was absolutely packed with everyone else going to the show. So, why not? We headed up to the casino, where it’s tucked into a corner surrounded by pokie machines and other gaming areas. It’s a weird place to be.

Don’t come here unless your an absolute hard core gambling addict.<br/><br/>Food was horrible. The Pho had no flavour at all. Had to add lots of sauce just so there’s some flavour. While the other dish ordered had uncooked prawns. How hopeless could a cook be in not cooking prawns fully.<br/><br/>Save your money and go downstairs to the food court. So much better food at half the price.<br/><br/>Can’t believe celebrity chef Luke Nguyen would even have his name associated to this place.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner. The staff worked well to get all those in line seated fast. The restaurant is very conveniently located and so I can understand why they are so busy. I liked how their placemats served as a menu as well. The food came out quickly once ordered. I had the beef pho which was edible but the taste wasn't the best - the broth lacked seasoning or something. For the price paid portion was about right. My other fellow diners enjoyed their meal. Don't expect for staff to take a group photo whilst at the restaurant, I asked and was rudely told by a staff member that they "don't do that". If seated on their high tables, expect to to placed along side random people.

Love this place. Pho is one of my favourites and it's a fresh, clean tasting dish but the meat can sometimes be fatty. Menu changes frequently but the popular items stay

Great service and was very quick to get food.. the food was tip top.. the location of the restaurant is convenient especially if ur having a little gamble.. Definitely a good spot!!

Price is so surprise,I think it's very good for a restaurant in Casino. Food so good as well. I love it. Shame haven't took any pictures, cause the food so good.

Been a few times and the noodles are delicious. First time I tired Singapore noodles here and I enjoyed the dish. The rice papers rolls were really disappointing and extremely expensive for two little rolls. Don't bother with anything but noodles here.
Fatmine
The only reason why we dined here was for convenience - It's right in the middle of The Star Casino and I believe it stays open until 2am. Spring rolls were mehhhh. The salt and pepper calamari was also meeehh.
HungryBunni
This place is great for a late night feed.  After drinks at the house/club, it’s a go to spot that’s open late.  Yea it’s a bit random in the middle there with the casino on the side, but once the food arrives it’s easy to ignore that.  Service is fast and there’s always waiters...

It is interesting that Fat Noodle is located smack bang in the middle of Star Casino. My friends and I were very happy to land upon this after being hungry for hours and most places shutting at 10:30pm. The dumplings were good, above average but not the best I've had. Overpriced of course and the food came out a few minutes before our drinks. Good place to go if you are in desperate need of a feed; however there is a more varied food quarter just across the threshold with the pokie machines.
TheCubanCigar
Fat noodle, a quick, cheap eat at the star casino <br/><br/>We were very impressed with the prices of the food delivered. <br/><br/>We recommend the mint & lychee iced drink & we absolutely loved the salt & pepper squid & the prawns <br/>
Joey The Whale
A viet/Asian outlet in the hustle of the Star. I am quite impressed by its pho: creamy Angus beef and flavourful broth (can taste Thai basil :) But the cinnamon grilled prawns are weird in taste.<br/><br/>The most important thing: it opens until 5! Good news for night owls since we don't have to go Macca's!
Eatventures
The location, in my opinion, is a little bit awkward however I suppose it encapsulates that busy bustling lifestle that south east asia is certainly known for. But when you're tucking into a big bowl of pho and watching you're surroundings you almost feel a little out of place for eating in the middle of the casino floor and not joining in. <br/>A little bit pricey but the money is well worth it with high quality, high flavoured street food coming out freshly made to order and within a reasonable time. <br/>The restaurant itself is open till 2am but don't think that you can show up and expect it to be empty at 1, its more likely than not going to have a healthy crowd.
A Girl With Curves
Good spot for a late night feed however it's super busy at all hours. The fresh oysters were really fresh and tasty. Service is fast. The restaurant is in a really busy part of the casino so it's best for an after club feed rather than a date night.
NomNomNom
This one's a surprise - For a place stuck in the middle of a casino next to the depressing and noisy pokie machines.. This place exceeds expectations. We gave this a crack only on the basis that it's a Luke Nguyen restaurant (and we were staying 45 seconds away) and it did not disappoint. Food was tasty and satisfying.. Service great and efficient.. And the price what it should be. Don't judge this place based in its location.. It's a little gem in the darkness.
Mary Leech
The food here is pretty pricy, but that's expected considering its location at The Star. I was expecting better quality for the price but it tasted like the stuff you get at any Westfields food court.
Philip Nam
I ordered the special that was recommended, the barramundi in sweet and sour sauce and the won ton pork noodle soup. This was no joke the worst meal i ever eaten in my life. The pork was tasted so old and meaty and the fish was no different. It had a strong old fish taste and smell. After trying to finish the meal i couldn't go past half way. What made it even worse was the false advertising on the fresh juice item on the menu. I ordered 2 glasses of fresh orange juice to only receive 2 glasses of bottled juice, more processed than the fresh bottled juices i can buy at coles. The manager on duty informed me it was "fresh" from the bottle. That was taken as an insult and a clear example of misleading advertising. I did not know that these sorts of meals and misleading advertising would be allowed to be in a reputable establishment like Star City. <br/>It ruined my day and visit to Star City
TrufflePig
For starters, the place is open all hours. So if you're craving asian food when kitchens are closing, this is the place. I fell in love on my first visit with a luscious oxtail soup, however the pad thai, beef pho, and duck curry are all winners here. I haven't had a bad experience. Speedy service, stellar food  and ultra convenient hours make Fat Noodle a no-brainer. Kirin please!
Randomness_of_existence
I feel like the quality of the dishes has gone down significantly since its first opening. The menu seemed pretty much unchanged, but the taste definitely has. I can see why casino patrons will find Fat noodle as it is a more convenient location to have their meals as it is one of the only places to eat...
Eating Out Sydney
5/5! Fat noodle inside the star casino, it's so flavorsome and amazing light. Wagyu beef noodles...You have to eat this, no words can explain how good this place is.. its not the alcohol talking, I promise! Wait in line is approx 10 mins but once your seated they leave you be :)
Sweetandyummie
Put some money on black jack and go here for pad see ew. Prices are premium here but who cares - your in a casino .... Customer service is attentive and i love the casino floor vibe.
Littlefoodie
Most overpriced and bland tasting food ive ever had.<br/><br/>Pho was flavourless<br/>Peking duck was dry and tiny portioned<br/>The pulled pork rice rolls werent all that great either.<br/>Each dish costed over 20 and by the end of it my friends and i felt like we had not even eaten anything.<br/>We also ordered drinks which they forgot (the table next to us got their drinks served before us despite the fact that we ordered before them)<br/><br/>We came at 130am, hungry. Left, still hungry but 70 dollars poorer.<br/><br/>Would not recommend this place to anyone. Should have gone to the kebab shop downstairs :(<br/>

My friend Paolo, who's based in Sydney, and I decided to go to the Star Casino in Sydney one night and try out Vietnamese-Aussie Chef's restaurant called Fat Noodles to warm up ourselves since it was winter when I visited back in August. The placed was packed and this salmon noodle is so good! It was so tasty. Love it! Well done, Luke Nguyen! I watch TLC and I am a fan of Luke so it was a tick of my bucketlist to dine in his restaurant!

There's no such thing as a sure thing at the casino but there is one restaurant where luck has followed wherever it goes. Fat Noodle located at The Star in the middle of the gaming not only has the prime spot for a noodle bar but working in its favour is the early closing time of the casino food court leaving diners (gamblers) little choice when they pull an all nighter. Strangely enough, luck has tipped in its favour at the Treasury Casino in Brisbane where diners are stretched for options. <br/><br/>Pricing is expectedly on the high side for such a location with your average rice and noodle dish sitting around or just under $20. I guess when people are so willing to blow a few hundred or a few thousand at the tables, the concept of money goes out the window anyway. The other pulling power of the Fat Noodle is the celebrate chef owner Luke Ngyuen who runs the Red Lantern.<br/><br/>Spring Rolls - Filling didn't resemble the vietnamese filling they described and was just an oversized vegetarian spring roll. I could not find the fungus or vermicelli but worst of all the chef didn't even bother to drain the oil properly from the springs roll resulting in oil being trapped inside the pastry. This was 11.30pm on a Tuesday night when 3/4 of the restaurant was empty and there were 4 chefs in the kitchen who had their own station to work at so there was absolutely no excuse. I could only manage two of the four spring rolls before I drown from the oil slick in my mouth.<br/><br/>Sirloin Beef in Black Pepper - You could tell the quality of beef was good but there were some tough pieces which could not be prevented as it was cubed and not sliced like traditional Asian restaurants leaving the meat not enough time to rest from the stir fry process. The flavour was good and overall a good dish although Fat Noodle Brisbane did a much better job at it.<br/><br/>Not a restaurant to have an occasion for but good for having a quick bite in-between your intense gambling session makes it somewhat acceptable but no match for the Asian Hawker Style restaurants at Crown Casino for price and variety.
Lostgirl
Had dinner last night at one of the Star's signature restaurants, Fat Noodle by Luke Nguyen. Entrée consisted of silken tofu which I thoroughly enjoyed and the signature Pho for the main course. The pho wasn't bad but lacked any real flavour, I had to keep adding chilli sauce to spice it up. Overall the food was average but not bad if you're looking for a bite before a night out in the casino. <br/>

Yummo! Live this place. Had a late dinner here after drinks out with friend. I ordered the pad see ew and asked for it chilli. And it was! Lots of flavour and great serving!!! I'll definitely like to come back soon to try.

Always a good feed especially late night after a night out and drinks. Service is always quick , i always order the seafood laska, quite a good portion, the soup is full of flavour and extra hot just the way i like it.

I went here after playing games.<br/>It's in the Casino area, always busy and located in very convenient place.<br/>service was average, the food was delicious.<br/>I ordered 'Wagyu beef Rendang' , the serving was quite large. <br/>The wagyu was really tender and nice.<br/>
Sharon
Everything I've tried so far in the menu has been amazing! For a restaurant in The Star it is decently priced and the quality is really good. The staff are very accommodating and food comes out very quickly. Only issue I've noticed so far was my friends udon she ordered was crazy salty. We weren't sure if it was meant to be as my noodles were perfect but it didn't make it inedible. I personally prefer Asian food from more run down restaurants as to me it tastes more authentic. However, I will definitely be back to try more!
Jason Meaden
The worst thing about this restaurant is having to go inside the Casino. However, if you can get over the fact that you're walking around in the least classiest venue in Sydney, then once you're in - the food is pretty tasty and not unreasonably priced. <br/><br/>I'd hesitate and say it isn't as authentic as it purports to be, but I'm hardly the expert. Certainly you get generous servings and the staff are friendly and efficient.
Pats
BEST LAKSA IN SYDNEY! Try it and you will not be disappointed. While you're waiting for your laksa, have the salt and pepper silken tofu for an entree.
Viv
Can I just say that I am TOTALLY ADDICTED to this place. Whenever my partner and I go to the casino or when we are looking for a high quality dinner, we always go here!<br/><br/>The service is polite, very professional and very orderly and on time.<br/><br/>The food servings are relatively small but its amazing quality and the taste is beautiful! The drinks are at a great price (below $6.00) and are also really great and refreshing. I always order the Vietnamese Coffee (you can even get it take away) and a few others, the only one I did not like was the Milk Tea, it literally tasted like water...<br/><br/>For the food I usually order the Pho. The rice dishes are also very filling, very high quality and decent, lots of flavors and very healthy.<br/><br/>This place gets super packed though, I love when they ask you where you would prefer to sit because some places just shove you wherever they please and I do have preference as to where to sit, so I love that they do this.<br/><br/>The hours are amazing too! Restaurants with hours that are limited are frustrating especially when going out late, they close at 5AM!! WHICH IS AWESOME!<br/><br/>Love this place, havn't had a bad experience YET, hope their food quality is always great and they don't make any of the portions smaller ever because it is pricey for sure!! Definitely do not expect cheap eats for this.
GG
Terrible. Can't say much more, terrible, tasteless food and terrible service by clueless staff, they should try training them bit more on product knowledge and service standards.
Andrew
Nothing good to say about this place! Wish I read the reviews before I wasted my time and money. Shoddy service by clueless staff, tasteless food, tables either side of us were also complaining. You have been warned.
Burn My Mouth Blog
We stumbled across this restaurant purely by accident. Located inside The Star, near the Baccarat action, this restaurant is associated with Luke Nguyen, the owner and chef of one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney, the Red Lantern. Naturally, we had high expectations of this place. The restaurant was set up with a long communal table in the middle, and a number of small individual tables on the side. At the back was a large open kitchen, where customers could see the chefs at work.
Burn My Mouth Blog
The rice noodles came in Luke Nguyen’s signature beef broth. The broth was too smoky, and there seem to be an overpowering note of star anise in the broth. A lighter broth may have brought out better the flavours of the Angus sirloin and brisket pieces in this dish, instead of overpowering them.
La Petite Bobo
Fat Noodle is a fast-paced Asian fusion restaurant headed by Vietnamese chef Luke Nguyen. Located in the casino of The Star, going to Fat Noodle makes you feel as though you’re in the middle of a Macau casino. The staff, the food, the music, everything here is fast. And just how I like it. We started off with our favourite Vegetarian Spring Rolls ($11 – Glass Noodles, Wood Ear Mushrooms, Tofu and Carrots). Despite being an absolutely terrible photo (sorry!), the spring rolls, as usual, were absolutely delicious. Perfectly fried to crisp perfection, with the perfect balance of vegetables and noodles. Next up was the Salt & Pepper Silken Tofu ($12).

Fat Noodle is nestled inside The Star's gambling floor, this Asian fusion restaurant is helmed by celebrity chef Luke Nguyen. Although the menu is heavy with Vietnamese cuisine, there are Thai, Chinese and Malaysian influences found throughout. L and I found ourselves at the Fat Noodle for dinner after a day out in the city.   Fat Pho Noodles $19.50 The Fat Pho Noodles uses Luke's signature beef broth as the base, and its incredibly rich and full of umami. There's a generous serving of thinly sliced Angus sirloin & brisket heaped on top of the rice noodles. Fresh basil, bean sprouts, chilli and mint is served on the side to allow diners to customise to their liking. Pork Pad See Ew $18.50 L's Pork Pad See Ew was full of flavour, the pork was succulent and the noodles were cooked well. Iced Milk Tea with Black Pearls $5.50 My Iced Milk Tea with Black Pearls arrived slightly warm. Will I Return  Probably not unless I find myself on the gambling floor of The Star. QOTD: Where do you get your favourite Pho? Let me know in the comments below!
Ilovemyfoodlots
Fat Noodle is located within the main gaming area of The Star, serving a dynamic mix of Chinese, Thai, Malay and Vietnamese dishes in the open kitchen. The man behind this restaurant is Luke Nguyen, one of Australia's leading celebrity chefs. The star dish is the 'Pho'. A 20 hour beef broth with thinly sliced Angus sirloin and brisket, bean sprouts, fresh Thai basil, fresh chilli and rice noodles.   With a Vietnamese/Chinese background, I have very high expectations of Asian food and believe that you should get your moneys worth. Having been to Fat Noodle twice, I was rather disappointed with the food on both occasions. Priced much higher that the usual Vietnamese restaurant, the food is nice but not that great. Upon seating, you are served complementary tea in a very heavy iron pot. I ordered the 'Lychee and Lemon Soda ($4.50) and it was basically lemonade with the addition of lychee from the can. I have had the 'Fat Pho Noodles' on both occasions and it came ou

Overall a delicious meal with good service. The food was tasty and filling and the atmosphere was great as the restaurant is in the middle of the Casino floor. A good experience.

We visited the inaugural Lunar Markets; a sort of a Chinese New Year offshoot of the ridiculously popular Night Noodle Markets here in Sydney. This is a smaller more intimate site with 20 stalls which is really kind of plenty – most visits to the Night Noodle Markets – we sort of hit 3-4 stalls so there’s plenty of reason to return. Here, you’ll also get waterside seating which is nice. We check in with Fairfax/Goodfood as guests. The same spot that housed the monthly growers markets, and the street fest/foodtruck event is now host to the Lunar Markets. The Markets are a colloboration between Fairfax/Goodfood and the Star. Moutai Australia, Bartlow Cider are here as are Sapporo beers. We’re early but this area will be pretty schmick when the sun sets. 2 restaurants from the star represent. There’s the ever popular Century and Fat Noodle (Luke Nguyen). These Fat Noodles Crispy Prawn and Chicken Dumplings were $6 Outta Brisbane are Zagyozas. They’re down here from Brisbane and these perfectly crimped gyozas were pretty good eating. Bao Stop does Baos which is the latest and greatest Taiwanese street treats invading sydney. Fried Chicken, Braised Pork and Duck Baos. Poklol has these fusion Kor-Mex Tacos. The incredibly popular Bar Pho already has built in queues as they were setting up. The main reason why? Their clever Phumplings combos a XLB with Pho flavours. Bar Pho also had a bit of a design coup asking ComplimentsoftheChef to do their artwork. Its cute and catchy. Hoy Pinoy was one of the biggest drawcards in 2014’s Night Noodle Markets and this smokey Filipino barbecued Meat on a stick; features Pork Belly and Chicken. You should try to hustle here to avoid the queues. Its still 2 sticks for $10. Manly’s Daniel San Manly is here and we were surprised to see meat skewers as they’re more familiar to us as a Japanese/Sushi joint. ( Daniel San Review ) Giving Hoy Pinoy a run for their money. Its not pork belly so its a lot leaner here. Out of Melbourne is Pasar Mala

Many nice good quality dishes you can choose from…whatever you choose you know that they use good quality ingredients…<br/>The beef in the pho noodle soup is high standard!<br/><br/>I liked their fried tofu..and also wow their oysters were fresh!!<br/>I went there a few times, and tried most of their dishes…all of them were quite good!<br/><br/>Fat Noodle on Urbanspoon

Nice food that's well regarded. You feel a bit exposed sitting there but it's a solid pre-show meal option. The service is good and the serving quantities are good too.
Missklicious
Salt and pepper silken tofu with fried fresh chilli and garlic - who knew tofu could taste so awesome?
Out Of My Kitchen
But the quality is there, the extra slippery glassy noodles and tender beef make it a dish worth having if in the area. It also decisively beats anything in the food court too, until we get celebrity chef burgers in there.....
Insatiable Munchies
While the food was absolutely fantastic, I think what really made the dinner memorable was the company in which it was eaten.

Luke Nguyen is the consulting chef to Fat Noodle. The menu is in fact very Chinese with influences from South-East Asia and not very Vietnamese as I had predicted. The menu 'offers a fresh twist on traditional recipes and ingredients'. I came here with the family and thought we would all pick a dish each. I couldn't go past the Salt n Pepper silken tofu - fried fresh Chilli, Garlic ($9). The tofu was lightly battered and fried, the tofu was deliciously soft and tender. I loved the hint of chilli and garlic, it was too hard not to eat the whole thing on my own! Definitely one of my favourites of the evening! Located in the Main Gaming Floor of the casino, Fat Noodle is a busy and bustling new eatery serving 'Asian Hawker Market' style dishes to the hungry visitors. Clay Teapot I love how they used a clay pot (with a dragonfly design too!) instead of the usual

Fat Noodle isn’t new on the scene, in fact I had heard that the food is pretty good. I knew it was located somewhere inside Sydney casino The Star, where, I wasn’t quite sure. What I didn’t know was that Fat Noodle is one of Luke Nyugen’s restaurants. Now, if I had known that bit of information before I may have sought it out earlier.

We love trying upmarket and oz-modded versions of street foodie classics, so with the folks in town and staying near Star City Casino we give Fat Noodle a whirl. Miss Chicken ate here only a week ago and gave it the thumbs up. This place is smack bang in

Much more fun and far less dangerous to take a punt on the food rather than the tables and machines!

...ordered pork & prawn wonton soup with vermicelli noodles for our mains. it was a delicious idea.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
First Birthday Shout Out Kudos to the zany Luke Nguyen and his crew at Star City 's Fat Noodle for hitting the big first birthday milestone, and serving up 200,000 steaming bowls of their fabulous pho to hungry gamblers. I attended the birthday party, rubbing shoulders with foodie favourites like The Sydney Morning Herald 's Stephanie Clifford-Smith, media darling Adriano Zumbo, blogger Chocolate Suze, and Time Out wine expert Mike Bennie. Whilst we threw back bowls of Chicken and Abalone Congee and struggled to scoff Roast Chicken & Pickled Cabbage Salad with torturously small forks, it was reassuring to see meal after meal heading out to the neighbouring baccarat tables. I bet it's easier to bet wisely with a full stomach. www.starcity.com.au STOP PRESS: Sustainable Seafood This Friday the 18th March is Sustainable Seafood Day , so if you swallow something from the ocean, do us all a favour and consider it's species and the fishing practices

Fat Noodle is pretty PHAT! I'm pretty adverse to the monstrosity that is Sydney's Star City casino. It's like Vegas was in the 80's, all garish carpet, lighting, indoor plants and so on. The only reasons to visit are to eat there and even that has been an unsteady path with restaurants and chefs who have come and gone such as Lanzafame and Sean's Kitchen. In recent times, they've managed to lure celebrity chef of the moment, Luke Nguyen of Flying Fish fame and author of the pretty awesome cookbook, Songs of Sapa, into the plastic fantastic monolith. Luke is a 'consultant chef' at Fat Noodle and I have no idea what that really means. Did he just look over the menu and say 'yeah, that looks like a bit of alright' or did he meticulously design, taste and plan the menu? Who knows? It's become trendy for modern chefs to diversify their talents and share the love in cookbooks, other restaurants, foodie events, etc etc. Welcome to the Master Celebrity Chef ('MCC'). Gone are the days when chef
Eat And Be Merry Crew
I had ordered the fat pho noodles - Luke Nguyen's signature dish. Beef broth, Angus sirloin and brisket, sprouts and basil ($18). The broth was very clear and delicate in flavour (almost like a consomme) - it was tasty, but I prefer the strong beefy flavours that you'd get in a cheap eats Vietnamese place. A reasonable amount of tender Angus beef. We hadn't come across having pho with hoisin sauce... somehow that didn't seem authentic to us, so we didn't use it. The Lawyer loved the pho and had wished the serve was a bit bigger given the price.

Fat cats and fat wallets may be apt associations with a casino, but now the link is stretching to noodles - fat ones. Amidst the renovation and rejuvenation of the Star City casino complex in Pyrmont, through the lights and action of the gaming floor, the

I Ate My Way Through
I was recently invited to attend Fat Noodle's first birthday celebrations and was so impressed by the food at the event that I just had to return a few days later. Fat Noodle sits on Star City's gaming floor and features large communal tables as well as another section with standard tables. Because it is on the gaming floor, young ones are not permitted and I had to go through the hassle of getting my ID checked. I know it won't be too long before I start taking the ID check as a compliment ;) Anyway, as you may or may not know, celebrity chef Luke Nguyen is the consulting chef to Fat Noodle and surprisingly, the menu does not stick to his Vietnamese roots. The menu is in fact predominantly Chinese with influences from South-East Asia. As they put it, the menu offers a fresh twist on traditional recipes and ingredients . The paper menu also acts as an ordering card (be warned, they scribble on it as you order) and placemat,

Always good and fresh. Always good and consistent with their food. The oysters are so fresh that they are like alive always. Plus very quick and polite service all the time. Bit pricy but definitely worth it. I'd recommend the silken tofu and the angus beef. Looking at the reviews, don't order the pho though.

I only eat here if I'm out late past midnight. Compared to what else is opened at that time it's not bad but expensive. <br/><br/>In the past I've had the pho and slow cooked ox tail. Not bad but won't eat here during normal hours with so many other options opened.

The service was ok, ordered the pho definitely not worth the price for tasteless soup (lacks authenticity of tradition pho) and firm noodles and the over cooked and little servings of meat.

Good service. Food came out hot.Very average food to suit the average diner. Disappointed.<br/><br/><br/>-----16 Dec, 2013-----<br/><br/>Good service. Food came out hot.Very average food to suit the average diner.

Disappointed - did not reflect Luke nguyen's usual red lantern dishes. My husband likened the soup to dirty sock water! And he is generally a simple guy. Shame.

Disappointed second time around. The first time I went to this restaurant the food was awesome and the service was friendly and fast. But I went again last night, and unfortunately the service was very disappointing. We had to request our order more than once and then I tried at least 4 times to get a waiter's attention to get the bill. On a very busy night, I would have understood, but when I went it was late in the evening and the restaurant wasn't full. It is a shame, and I don't think I will head back there, there are a number of other great places to try.

Great tasty food, quick service, only downfall is that its inside the gaming area

Pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised given the not great ratings Fat Noodle receives. Strange location (on the gaming floor) but we were seated straight away by an enthusiastic waiter and the good service continued throughout our meal. Food came quickly and was both fresh and tasty. Value was fairly good too considering we were eating at the casino.

Great Food and Service!. Loved that I got seated immediately and the service was great throughout the night@ The food was delicious.

Yum- went here last night for dinner got the spanner crab and abalone congee, I steered clear of the pho after seeing all the reviews, we will be back for sure, service was good and servings were decent!

Not worth the schlep through the casino. Myself and the Boy are Pho addicts. Normally our weekends will be interspersed with at least one attempt at finding that perfect bowl of Pho (current winner is Simply Noodle in Warringah Mall. Strange, but very true - go try it). Fat Noodle had therefore been on the list for a while for one obvious reason - Luke Ngyuen being it.<br/><br/>Waste. Of. Time. <br/><br/>Very, very average Pho (especially for the price) with teeny portions of herbs and hoi sin on the side topped off with some of the surliest service in Sydney.<br/><br/>Another disappointing runner ticked off the list and so the quest continues....

Terrible. Visited your restaurant the other night cause the last time i went the noodles were amazing. Tried the 'Lup Cheung Fried Rice' & 'Soft Shell Crab', it has no flavor at all. The fried rice had no flavor at all and when it said seasonal greens apparently it means about a teaspoon of shallots, for $16 it was pathetic and i dont think i would have even paid $6 for it. <br/>Even your waitress knew that several customers had complained about the 'tasteless' food that you served.<br/>Very disappointing Fat Noodle, will never be back again

Much better Pho elsewhere. When in Sydney, I often stay at Star, so Luke Nguyen’s Fat Noodle is just downstairs. I gave it a try and ordered a Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup), and regretfully this was well below what I would have expected from a restaurant run by Luke Nguyen. The Pho stock lacked flavour, the noodles were too firm, not enough fresh herbs, and expensive.<br/><br/>If you want good Pho, and don't care about nice decor, go for a 15min walk up to Pasteur's in Haymarket, half the price and twice as good. <br/><br/>I have not tried the other items on the menu, which looked nicely presented, however if Pho was the benchmark, then the other dishes may be less than what you may expect for the price.
Lemon Tart
Won't return.. My beef pho had overcooked noodles. And the crab and avocado salad rolls were definitely not worth the price.
Sydneyguyrojoe
Better than your average chinese place but..... When you taste the food, you can tell the ingrediants are clean and fresh. I liked what i had, Har mee and the rice paper rolls but the rice paper rolls are small in size, the lychee soda is nice too. <br/><br/>But despite the food being nice, you have to pay for it, its not cheap, almost double what you would pay other places.<br/><br/>Ambience wise your surrounded by gambling tables but it was less noisy than i expected<br/><br/>Service was more miss than hit, hard to wave someone down, get my order wrong but the food came out quicker than expected<br/><br/>Overall i did like my meal but not the price tag associated with it
Donna
Entrees were good, mains were very ordinary. Service was so bad, slow, ignoring the customers when they clapped their hands loudly....our bill arrived before we received our mains..rude! My shistos and i wont be returning.

Yummy modern Asian. Fat Noodle is now located at 'The Star' formerly known as 'Star City'. The location hasn't changed but it has been rebranded as a gourmet food lovers paradise with offerings by several acclaimed chefs. Luke Nguyen's association with Fat Noodle holds its own in the price bracket where no dish is over $19. I had the Hainan Chicken Rice ($15) which was exactly that but made with more love and better produce than usual. The chicken maryland was poached so that the delicate flavours came through, the rice was tasty, the broth touched up with some small cubes of tofu and spring onions and the 2 sauces of grated ginger pounded with some garlic, S&P and the chilli sauce, both house-made. Delicious and filling!

Food was ok. Not the best I've had, adequate. Staff need to be more switched on. I guess you don't need to try to hard if you have a more or less captive market. Not sure I'll return.
