It’s so handy that Fix Wine Bar + Restaurant is right next door. The coffee is good and it’s always buzzing at happy hour. That would be due to it’s well stocked bar. I will have to head over to lunch sometime soon. #fixwine

Ps: We returned today for lunch and it was fabulous!

I’ve been to Fix for happy hour and have wanted to try their food menu however always had other dinner plans. Finally had a chance to try their menu. The soy glazed lamb ribs and teriyaki bone marrow tasted good. The rainbow trout was also fine but had a lot of bones, if you’re not good with picking out fish bones, this is not for you (I struggled but my friend enjoyed it). The chicken hearts with macadamia nuts satay was disappointing, it felt under cooked as it was still red inside. Would still go back for happy hour and hopefully will have better luck with food choices next time.

I dined at Fix for dinner last Thursday night and I can not fault the food or service.  We had the grilled quail and the hanger steak, both absolutely delicious.  Stuart the Owner also picked out an excellent bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal.  We will be back with a bigger appetite next time, thanks guys we really enjoyed it.

Wonderful service! The waitress served us was so friendly and delightful lossy night. Love the porkneck and my friend really enjoyed her risotto. The yogurt taste really weird though, but chocolate moose was fantastic! LIKE

This restaurant is good place to hangout after shopping at westfield, DJ or Myer in sydney city, especially if you dont want foodcort food. it has a great range of wine, definitely good for drinks. We ordered the pork neck, risotto and pesto burrata orecchiette. i would say the orecchiette(pasta) is the most surprised one. taste great even it is vegetarian.

Overall pretty good. A couple of let downs which were the orecchiette and skirt steak.

Orecchiette tasted like Taiwanese noodles (which usually cost $12 not $29) and the skirt steak was chewy and that mix of Asian not Asian flavours didn't gel.

Other than those two, the rest of the dishes were well executed and enjoyable.

Business lunch on a Thursday at 1245. It's not as packed and we get good service and attention from the crew.

Whilst tempted to order the steak tartar decided to go straight for the mains instead. I went for the whole snapper. This was done in an Asian style. It was garnished with ginger, shallots and parsley on a sea of soya sauce. The Snapper was finished in two parts. The main fish was grilled and the grill find were deep fried in batter.

All-in, a decent dining experience albeit prices were at the higher end of town.

What a fantastic place!
Outstanding & friendly wait staff - we were made to feel like truely welcome guests with the perfect balance of attentiveness, nothing was a bother. This was coupled with great knowledge of the wines & our selection of cheeses.
The food was extremely flavoursome, leaving you wanting more (all diners at our table wanted to run our finger across the bowl!).
It was bustling & after what we experienced I am surprised it isn't fully booked every night.

The gentleman at the next table is wooing his date with stories of ICAC. He gestures to another table explaining that they’re barristers, working on a three-week case. When the duo finish rushed plates of Coorong Skirt Steak Tagliata ($34) buried under rocket, our narrator wishes them luck on another all-nighter.Hearing ‘all-nighter’ makes me want wine, and to that end, this spot delivers. Owner, and former SMH Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year, Stuart Knox, commands a 250-strong wine list

I remember eating here a few years ago, perfectly nice, but not amazing like last night. A quick pre-show meal, but the school prawns were perfect, the cheese soufflé is awesome, and the whole trout was pretty much perfection. I liked the duck fat potatoes, but my better half thought they were too salty. Match this with some great rieslings (including a rather nice orange wine) and being taking care of by Tristan, and this is a high recommendation. We'll be back.

I Shall Return. Loved every dish that literally sent tingles on my spine! The crispy prawns were delightful to start with, with the aioli that was perfectly seasoned. The pork rillete was absolutely amazing, with the cracklings that I could just eat on an on, if my husband wasn't quick enough. I then had the pasta with pipis and chili, while my husband had the steak dressed in miso which was pleasantly surprising.

The menu was not a long list, but each one jumping out to me as having made with beautiful ingredients.
This is a restaurant that also boasts a good selection of wine. Whether it's a business lunch, or a long dinner, you are after, this small pub/bar restaurant is worthy of its one hat! I shall definitely come back (and try the roast duck).

Do you like your wine? Compare the booze menu with the food menu at Fix St James and fall into wine heaven.  A fancy establishment for some classy wine and some classy food.  A nice place to have lunch but with the premium price tag.  Fix St James is a corporate fancy restaurant during the week.  I came here on a day on off with my bestie looking to gossip post-overseas trip with a side of shopping.   Price: $30 to $35 per main and about $15 plus for a glass of booze Jaume Rose and the Glover Hill Champagne Bread Start off with a few sips of wine, eat some herb infused bread and prepare yourself for a nice lunch.  I ordered the fish of the day which was $35.  My dish was a king fish which was perfectly cooked on a corn based bed of baby corn, creamed corn and prawns. A good dish put well together but I would have wanted more moisture on the creamed bed of corn as everything made your mouth dry. Maybe this is where the massive menu of booze should come into play.  A nice place. Fish of

A few of us were meeting up for some 'after work dinner' and we selected a venue near our office. Fix St James is literally a short stroll from my office. How convenient! Upon checking their menu I was somehow attracted to their entrees and decided on 2 entrees instead of a main. Duck liver parfait, brioche toast and pickled cucumber. Pretty to look at and delicious to boot! The parfait was smooth and creamy and I really liked the addition of the pickled cucumber. It was a nice dimension. I only wish there was a bit more of the brioche toast. Fried chicken, mash and gravy. I enjoyed the pieces of fried chicken but would have liked more gravy to the mash. The guys ordered the same main. It was Pork Belly with crackling, wombok and broth. The broth was what brought the dish together and the pork was tender and full of flavour. The crackling was cracking! Both enjoyed their dish. I snuck a bite so I could review the dish properly. :) I had to have a dessert and the one which caught my eye

Fix turns out solid, hearty “modern classics” (if that’s not a contradiction) and does so really, really well. It stands athwart the trends that buck Sydney dining to and fro yelling, “Stop!” This is unreservedly a good thing.

I ordered the suckling pig with white beans, sprouts and pumpkin. It was excellent. There was crunchy crackling and tender pork with a rich flavour.

...we'd just let the kitchen decide for us! We quickly agreed on the "Feed Me Fix" menu, our only real decision was between the 5 course 'Quick Fix' or 6 course 'Fix Me Up'.

24 January 2013 1 Comment I post far more often about scoffing than quaffing, for three main reasons: 1. I can’t make wine 2. I am not confident in my abilities to describe the flavours of wine 3. Quaffing makes me forget to take photos and/or causes me to take blurry photos, which are rubbish. With regard to this final point, I’m afraid this post is no exception. (You can see the clarity of my pictures deteriorate.) However, I enjoyed Fix St James’ ‘Riesling Olympics’ event so much that I am going to attempt to blog about it – I think it’s also the only time I’ve ever voluntarily participated in a sporting competition. My dad will be so proud! The blinded bottles at the ready Got our sweats on; we’re ready to compete! Being the sporty type that he is, Guy entered the Sauvignon blanc spitting contest and came second. He received a silver medal and a bottle of Pewsey Vale Eden Riesling as a prize. Which he loves. And already has a few bottles of apparently. Guy (nearly) winning! (Don’t

The bone marrow has been roasted to a perfect quivering plumpness, and we scoop out the fatty lushness with determined glee. In Fergus Henderson's original dish, slices of toast are served on the side, but Knox amps this up considerably with duck fat croutons.

Really Lovely!. One of the best casual dining/bistro style establishments in the CBD. We need more like it!

The school prawns and bone marrow were lovely. My Goats’ Cheese & Gruyere Soufflé was delicious. Others enjoyed Beef Tartar and Pork & Fennel Ragu Linguine. Desserts were a hit and the wine list is perfect.

Great place for a corporate lunch or catch up with friends.

Excellent. We had lunch on a busy weekday. Staff were very friendly and unflustered.
We chose individual glasses of wine as we wanted to try a few. The first two we chose were inexpensive but delicious.
I asked owner Stuart to choose a second glass for me, and again it was delicious.
Very impressed, we shall return many times I'm sure.
This restaurant is not expensive by Sydney standards.

A favourite that never fails. I've lost count how many times I've been to Fix over the last few years. Alone for an afternoon tipple, client lunches, dinner with big groups of friends or a long meal with my girlfriend Fix has never let me down.

Honestly, I don't pay much attention to the menu anymore. I can do my favourite thing at Fix with confidence - wave my arms and ask for delicious things to be brought to the table and it happens. EVERY TIME. So, go for the Fix Me Up with matched wines. If you're feeling adventurous, take the "journey down the rabbit hole" and you'll see some spectacular and interesting wines that will challenge your perceptions about what wine can be and provide you with a delicious experience.

I don't mind saying it - I love Fix St James and will return again and again and again. Like I always do. Go there. Eat things. Be happy.

Just had an excellent evening here. The food was very enjoyable - I had the pork, my wife had the blue nose. Also had the beef tartare entree which was very good if a little too vinegary - a little too much bite for my liking. The service was attentive and helpful. Dishes were explained when we were unsure, and the staff were always smiling. Our only complaint was that there was no one else dining! We arrived at 7 to an empty house. It filled up a little later on but come on people, you need to check this place out! We'll be back for sure.

An experience!. I have been meaning to visit Fix St James for a while and I'm kicking myself I didn't try it sooner. Stuart was so fantastic and obviously has so much passion for food and wine. I felt like I was out in one of the wine regions, not in the middle of the CBD. We went for the Fix Me Up menu + wine flight. The food was perfect. Favourite dish would be the calamari in ink - delightful! I would go back again in a heart beat.
