We happened to pass by this cute restaurant on our way to the park. Got curious and went in. Very nice atmosphere and service. Classy food plating and presentation. You can tell the wasabi is freshly grated. I specially love the green tea and the tea set (cuteness) . You'll leave this place with a smile on your face. ❤️ everything we ordered. And the cheesecake melts in the mouth. 👌👌👌🌟⚡

Our local Japanese place around the corner. Karaage Fried Chicken is to die for.. so is the scallop trio, sashimi salad and most menu items. Best value for money!

Love this place and the food, Kiyo is a friendly owner and very accommodating. Been back many times and never was disappointed. Ask him for a special dish that is not on the menu!

While walking on the streets of Pyrmont, this cosy Japanese-style cottage caught my attention. Warm-toned lighting in the windy night and the menu seems quite authentic. Quite a few to choose from, and my favourite was the Silken Cold Tofu with Homemade Chili Paste. The paste is not that spicy but flavourful enough, and the texture of the tofu is to die for. Slow cooked pork’s got an authentic good taste too, I recommend some rice to go with it though (otherwise the broth can be a bit overpowering). Umeshu and the citrus-flavoured drink both taste great with what we ordered, bringing some freshness into the meal. Also tried the black sesame ice cream, was a bit bland and I’ve tried way better sesame ice cream elsewhere. Staff was extremely enthusiastic and friendly, the family-run restaurant’s got a heartwarming vibe too. When they are not as busy, guests and the owner could literally chat like friends. Owner even walked us and the other group of customers to the door when we left late as they closed, would recommend a visit if you’re near the Star.

I loved this place! It was quite authentic and the Japanese food was quite different from the more mainstream restaurants. We ordered the potato/rice starter which was tasty but quite small, and also the octopus balls which tasted a bit like okonomiyaki. They were probably my favourite. We also ordered a lightly fried salmon dish which was tasty but not amazing, and the signature fried rice which was tasty but needed a bit of soy sauce added. Lastly we had the Wagyu beef tataki which was another favourite and came with two dipping sauces. We had the cheesecake for dessert which I thought would be like the light fluffy Japanese style but was more like American cream cheese cheesecake - still very good though! Would definitely return to try more

Wagyu beef steak was delicious! Tender, melts in your mouth, possibly a little too much onion. Salmon tower had a cool twist to it.

Regular favourite.

So happy with this find! Japanese restaurant run by Japanese people. Really friendly service and there’s a welcoming vibe. The glazed grilled eel dish is really good and so is their sushi. There isn’t much variety on their sashimi platter but it tasted fresh. We also tried a creamy chicken dish from their special truffle menu and really enjoyed it. For dessert we tried a Japanese rare cheesecake and it was so smooth and delicious! We would definitely come back again.

Now I don't know why Kiyo has a low rating. From my experience everything went well. Great friendly and accommodating staff. The ambience location and restaurants was lovely, it was a very authentic experience. For a second we felt like we we're in Japan.

Now the food. We enjoyed everything from the Chef's Special Garlic salted chicken to their chicken katsu and Wagyu Steak (200g)! Now that was awesome! The steak is so soft, tender and juicy that it just melts in your mouth!

Highly recommended it and would definitely go back!

Average meal is around $20 - $30 per head

Not sure why the review for this place isn't above 4!

Have been here twice now, once takeaway and once dine in. Both times impressed!

1) service was fantastic and genuine - very kind and nice staff and very polite
2) food was great - some dishes didn't strike me as typical Japanese food (not necessarily a bad thing!) but overall the taste was very good
We had fried oysters - really really good
Gyoza was quite standard
Ox tongue thick cut, chewy and quite nice
Dry noodles was very good, taste somewhat like a Chinese dish but tasty!

Would definitely come back!

A great place to have a relaxing/romantic chat with others. We ordered lots of starters and nibbles as they all sounded amazing on the menu, which also turned out to be very tasty and flavorsome. The fresh scallops dressed 3 ways were absolutely a must try, so was the octopus carpaccio! The fried mochi was unique and great with a drink, so was the edamame. Agedashi tofu was soft on the inside and perfectly textured on the outside. The grilled miso fish was nicely seasoned. They did a modern take of the mochi ice cream, which was nice but needed more mochi for my liking. Overall great service, loved sitting out the back in the private garden, and delicious food.

The food here is fantastic. Decorated in a traditional Japanese style to look like a small wooden shed you might find in a back alley in Tokyo or Kyoto, this place offers a modern but earnest take on Japanese dining. The food is immaculately presented, baked up by flavours and perfectly cooked and well sourced ingredients. We had Unagi (eel) which the owner said he had sourced by trying tens of sources before deciding this was the best he could get outside of Japan. The home made (by mum) Japanese Rare Cheesecake for dessert finished off a perfect meal. Amazingly friendly and attentive staff too. Be sure to book as the place is small, but more than worth your time!

A little expensive but really worth it. The food, the mochi, and cheesecake was amazing and the service was excellent. The chef came out to the backyard where we sat and talked to us briefly about how he got to opening the restaurant. He intentionally reduced the restaurant opening hours so he can refresh his menu regula rly His food really showed case the combination of Japanese, French, creativity and uniqueness.

The food was delicious! We ordered the nasudengaku (miso glazed eggplant) for starters (really lovely) followed by kakuni pork and their special fried rice. We chose the cheesecake and sesame ice cream for dessert. All in all, I really enjoyed the food and will most likely come back to try the rest of the menu. The staff was nice and the setup of the restaurant ok (sort of a heritage little house with some Japanese decorations.

Very fresh and expertly cut sashimi ($42 for 20pc assortment of 6 varieties; $25 for tuna belly toro). Karaage chicken was juicy, karaage octopus well fried. Ochazuke rounded out the meal nicely. Overall very good value for the quality of food served. Lovely neighbourhood joint. Will return!

Drop by for a quick dinner today and what a wonderful discovery of a neighbourhood gem near work. High quality produce beautifully cooked the proper way and taste right, not some western style Japanese flavour. Staff were friendly and one looking almost identical to the young Kimutaku. Will be back soon for other dishes.
