Review The Pie Tin - Sydney

A Bunny Yay
Great service over the phone and friendly ladies working at the shop. Best part is the beautiful, freshly made American pumpkin pie! First time trying this place out and it's been a real treat. Nice green plants inside and wide selection of sweet and savoury options. Just tried the pumpkin pie with added cream and it's divine! Lovely flavour, freshly made with a gorgeous crust. The carry container they provide is also nice with a window on both sides, so you can see the pie easily. Everyone at work loved the pie, thank you to your team! Xxx

The best pie shop with a great selection of savoury and dessert pies. They do an excellent American style pumpkin pie and I always come back here whenever I get a craving. Lots of other flavours such as Banoffi (not too sweet and lots of cream to balance the sweetness), Earl grey mousse (very light with subtle but noticeable Earl grey flavour), and Peanut butter (like a big Reese's peanut butter cup).

Hands down the best pie shop I've ever been to. Both sweet and savoury! So far I love everything I've tried and its rare that I'd come to Newtown without getting at least something from this place. Love their Whipped Lime pie but Blueberry is the bomb šŸ¤©

My new favorite pie shop at the moment. I love everything about the pie that Iā€™ve tried. Delicious crunchy crust, baked to perfection, Gourmet filling crafted for each pie, bring all the pie to next level! Iā€™ve tried: ā€œPizzaā€; triple smoked diced ham, artichokes, slice olives, mozzarella and tomato sauce. The smell is so irresistible! Taste is really good, just like eating pizza šŸ• for sure in form of baked crunchy pastry šŸ˜€. ā€œBeef Brisketā€; slow roasted brisket, mushroom, coffee, and maple gravy. Canā€™t get more gourmet than that, right? I do love it, however my personal opinion it touch sweet on the gravy. It doesnā€™t stopping me finishing those bad boy though šŸ˜€. ā€œMaple Chocolate Strawberryā€ as a dessert was the best option. Soft baked centered delicate Belgian chocolate brownies, garnished with maple macerated strawberryā€¦ OMG.. itā€™s a happy ending! Next one Iā€™ll try different sweet, Iā€™m going to try this ā€œblended sweet pie thick shakesā€, which basically a piece of sweet pie of your choice added into milkshakesā€¦. šŸ˜‹

Hasn't really changed much over the years. Great selection of both savoury and sweet pies. The sweet ones are very indulgent and rich in flavour. I haven't tried the coffee here, but overheard that they ran out of soy milk which was a shame for that patron. Wasn't really an issue but probably not a reliable coffee joint. Small seating area inside, but does get busy really fast. Good for kids (exciting for them).

Pumpkin pie was amazing, the beef and stout pie delicious and pork & fennel sausage roll splendid! The apple and Berry pie on the other hand was sad :(

Couldn't be happier with the order I placed with Pie Tin recently. The team were super friendly, were happy to answer all of my questions about dietary requirements/sizes/etc, and the two pies that were ordered were incredible! Super easy to pick up in store as well. Thanks guys :)

Done a day trip to the city today and before going home in the afternoon my family and I decided to visit the Pie tin for the first time. We were excited to try a pie. We ended up buying the Apple & Berry Pie. It looked amazing. The place looked cosy and comfortable too. But we don't know what happen to the lady that served us. The lady looked really unhappy.

Iā€™m going through a pie phase at the moment so Iā€™ve been having my fair share of pies but this was one of the better ones! It is on the pricier side but it was delicious. I had the truffle and chicken mushroom pie and the truffle flavour was very prominent which I enjoyed. My favourite part of pie is the pastry and this pastry was flakey and delicious as well. Will definitely be back to try other fillings and the sweet pies which look amazing! Only problem is finding parking can be quite difficult

All different flavours of pies!!! Both savoury and dessert pies!!! Surprisingly, flavours are spot on! For the dessert pies, right level of sweetness! Highly recommend the the lime whipped cream pie, I really like the tint of sourness from the lime. For the savoury pies, I do really love their beef pies! Definitely perfect when Iā€™m craving for meat and need my iron intake.

I had heard so much about this place & finally made it. Its not a big place & just off busy King Street but it does have a huge selection of sweet & savoury items on offer. It was so hard to decide as everything looked beautiful & tempting. Apparently there are over 100 different flavours on rotation! I tried the BBQ brisket & chicken & leek pies for savoury & both were tasty. I loved the generous fillings in both. The brisket was super tender & a little on the sweet side. The chicken was creamy & I personally loved the tarragon flavour coming through. The pastry though was a bit too thick and doughy for my liking. I chose the pumpkin & key lime pies for sweets and both were delicious. Super light & fluffy filling so not overly heavy but still has rich, I adored the pumpkin pie pastry. The key lime pie has a classic cheesecake crumb base which was yummy & its very creamy. Would love to try more sweet and savoury items. Service was super friendly & helpful.

9/10<br/><br/>The pie tin has an amazing selection of unconventional savoury and sweet pies. Fillings taste amazing and the crusts on both the sweet and savoury pies are what makes a good and bad pie and you can see them making the pies in the back so of course the crusts were superb tasted amazing.<br/><br/>1) Truffle Chicken - You can see the chunks of chicken and taste the truffle but if you've never had truffle before it tastes like a chicken and mushroom pie<br/><br/>2) Sweet Roasted Duck - A sweet tomato based filling with chunks of tender duck inside, must get<br/><br/>3) Baklava Pie - Served with rosewater syrup, tasted like how you expect but in a pie<br/><br/>4) Lime Pie - Really creamy lime filling, wish it was a more punch in your face lime flavour but still a favourite

Best pumpkin pie Iā€™ve ever tasted in my life ! Perfect balance. Blueberry pie was good, not sweet. my fav was pumpkin pie. Pie r great with scoop of vanilla ice cream but ice cream melts fast so Iā€™ll ask them to put in a cup next time cuz itā€™s on the plate with the pie and makes the pie soggy. <br/><br/> Ice coffee was too bitter so I didnā€™t like it and didnt drink it. <br/><br/>Beef meat pies were good but not amazing.

Need to collect the crumbs from the table n not throw them down on the floor.<br/>Got a stone in quinoa salad.

Great little spot off the main street in Newtown. Huge selection of pies, both sweet and savoury. The sweet pies have perfect bases, great crunch factor without being too hard and the fillings are flavoursome without being overly sweet and unbearable. There is a huge range of savoury options with some really unique flavours, of the three I had they were overall okay, nothing remarkably special. Reasonable price for the size of the portions and a great vibe inside. Definitely check it out when in the area.

Lime pie is to DIE FOR. Best dessert pie Iā€™ve ever tasted. Its most famous banoffee pie does not disappoint as well. Ambience is nice for some light reading or to catch up with friends.

Came here for some sweet old pie, they have sweet and savoury available with coffee and tea to accompany it.<br/><br/>They live up to their name and when you walk in you can see pies everywhere, as a cafe they also served light meals as well.<br/><br/>@asianfoodninja #asianfoodninja

The savory dishes are often uncommon and rare, so itā€™s interesting and offers a nice twist to your average pies and rolls. Taste-wise, theyā€™re only slightly above average. The desserts are delicious although quite sweet, and I have an obsession with sugar so thatā€™s saying something. This place is definitely a must try through!

Read a lot of good reviews so we decided to give it a shot. Was kind of disappointed the cauliflower pie wasnā€™t available but understand that they would rotate the menu to keep things fresh. <br/><br/>Settled on the savouries of roasted duck + fish cream pie & a lamb roll. The pies had rather thick and ungainly crust, abit too tough for my taste. Also, found the duck to be rather dry. The pastry in the lamb roll was spot on! For sweet we settled on apple pie. Huge piece with hint of sour after taste. Good thing we were sharing as I probably couldnā€™t finish one on my own. <br/><br/>Not sure if it gets busy on the weekends but we were here in Fri morning and it was pleasant with enough seating instead of those micro match boxes of a cafe common in the inner city.

Food was alright. The price is quite expensive, but the portion is big. Dough is thick esp the apple pie. Me and my friend were not finishing the dough pieces as we were full.<br/>However, service is great and quick.

cozy place, welcoming atmosphere, yet the pies are all good lookin. tried the cherry ripe, really good. ratio of crust and filling is good, not too heavy. just perfect

The Pie Tin has made me want to open my phone and review places again on Zomato. They have the best collection of savoury and sweet pies in Newtown. We had the salted caramel and malteasers pie, they were extraordinary. Each pie was heavy and should be shared. The ambience of the place is rustic, it has good service and is located few minutes away from the station. This would be in my top 10 places in Newtown list.

The cherry ripe pie was fantastic and the savoury pie we got (I think beef?) was also delicious. All the dessert pies looked amazing so I had a really hard time choosing what to get. They also had very unique flavours - I loved the candy bar theme they had going on. Pretty upset that I didn't get to go back to try the tim tam before we came back to Brissie.Ā <br/><br/>The base of the cherry ripe pie tasted like it was made from crushed Oreos but it was super crunchy and added a nice texture balance to the creamy filling. It was also surprisingly light; I probably could've finished the whole slice by myself with no problem.

Yum! Been here many times now. Both the sweet and savoury pies are to die for.<br/><br/>A huge variety to choose from so itā€™s always so hard to pick only one. <br/><br/>

Spinach Roll : šŸ˜ Amazing<br/>Cauliflower Cottage Pie : šŸ˜ Amazing <br/>Mexican Chicken Pie : šŸ˜ Amazing <br/>Pork & Apple Pie : šŸ˜ Great <br/>Black Forest Meringue: šŸ˜ Amazing <br/>Pumpkin Pie : šŸ˜ Amazing<br/><br/>Wow and wow. Freshly baked pies with loads of different choices. My absolute favourite was the Mexican Chicken. Iā€™m drooling just thinking about it right now and I literally just had it! Crispy crust and flavourful fillings. Pork & Apple was a little bit sweet but everyone has different tastes so I will say that you can give it a go. Yummy sweet pies too with so much to choose from. This is a must place to visit in Newtown.

Cottage pie, pork and apple pie, lamb and fennel sausage roll. Skip the pork and apple, the filling is quite dry due to the lean cut of meat used so you need to have it with a side of mash or tomato sauce. The cottage pie has a really lovely cheesy- potato mash mixture and the lamb sausage roll also had a great flavour. Definitely recommend. Gotta try the sweet pies next time.<br/><br/>11/01/19: Apple Crumble Pie (3/5 āļøāļøāļø) the crust was a little thick but the sweetness of the apple filling was perfect for me, not overly sweet and slightly tart. The crumble although nice at first, became a bit dry with the thick crust, so it would have been nice to have some ice cream or cream on the side to accompany it. I suppose this would be one of the 'lighter' options on the menu if you're on a diet. Lol<br/><br/>22/02/19: lemon brulee tart was too sweet, the sweet roast duck was yum and meat was juicy and the nepalese lamb was dry and needed bbq sauce but, good flavour.
Susan
Friendly service and amazing pies!! The cottage pie is a must have with a nice pour of gravy. <br/>The pork and apple pie was okay. <br/>Go for the Pumpkin Pie if your a pumpkin pie lover, it also sets the bar pretty high for those who have never tried pumpkin pie before! <br/>The Black Forest meringue is also very good, surprisingly not too heavy, but itā€™s always good to share.
MynameisFood.
Unaware of such a place and wondering if we had one in Brissie, we were on our way here to have a nibble and to grab a coffee. Offering both sweet and savoury pies of which changes in a rotational basis, they are told to be handmade and baked fresh daily on premises. When you enter, you see yourself in an exposed brick wall surrounding, wooden tables with steel chairs and a single cashier point.

I got a bunch of pies to try and all had great interesting fillings with great flavours. The lamb one is particularly good. Just as well for the $10+ prices. The casing was a bit disappointing, dense and dry, but at least it holds its structure well so you can eat on the go.
Dutchie007
What a rip off! A medium slice of sweet cake cost $9. Their quality and portion sizes have tumbled drastically over the years. A pie comes with a side of chips or salad (additional charge) and for that you can a few chips and tiny salad with all leaves. We ordered two pies, both tasteless, dry and almost soggy (not crispy) he people that serve you are totally not interested.<br/>We will never go back there again.
Mango And Goat
Pie tin introduced their new pie ā€œDouble Beef Maple Bacon Cheeseburger Pieā€ l, really does taste like a cheeseburger! Personally wouldā€™ve enjoyed it a lot more without the caramelised onions. Otherwise good! <br/>My favourite is also the classic mince pie for savoury and cookies and cream for sweet. Definitely recommend!
Sera Jean
The Mars Bar Cheesecake is outstanding! The Pie Tin is a sweet little cafe just of King St, a nice place to sit and enjoy a huge pie, or a cake and coffee. The only downside was the coffee wasn't strong enough for me.
Ms Foodiepants
Follow me on Instagram @msfoodiepants<br/><br/>Nice atmosphere, pies are ok not great. I was hoping for a greater variety of filings and much better pastry base. I liked their sweet potato fries.
FoodLuva
Beef brisket pie - quite unexpectedly dry.<br/>White chocolate ganache was way too sweet.<br/>The peanut butter an chocolate cake was pretty good though.<br/>
Michelle
Cute little niche store all about pies. Seating is a bit bare bones but that's not the focus here. The smores pie changed my life. Will definitely be coming again.
HANGRYHUNGRY
Hands down my favourite place for pieā€™s - both sweet and savoury! It is reasonably priced and the quality is just amazing! Always ceases to amaze me! The flavours change every week? I think. So make sure to follow their social media to keep updated! But honestly, the consistency of the pies are absolutely delicious! I canā€™t fault a thing about it. I highly recommend giving this place a try! Their savoury options are also very good! And their service is super friendly!

Pies! Sweet Pies! and Sweet pies made into milkshakes! What more can you ask for?!<br/>The pumpkin pie is just so gorgeous, even if you don't like pumpkin, this pie is definitely worth the calories. And if you've had a big lunch and looking for a little sweetest - the coffee cream pie is just so easy to down. One of my go to places for dessert in Newtown.
The Miniature Life
Tucked off the side of King St Newtown is this cozy local favourite that serves a whole range of pies. What strikes me most is the sheer range they make fresh everyday, with at least 2 vegetarian options available. We opted for a Southern style pork and apple pie, and a vegetarian lentil pie, with a side of the cheesy loaded fries. Served on steel plates, I actually really love the simplicity of the restaurant. The pies were wonderful! The pastry in particular was wonderfully crispy and flakey, and the fillings were all around delicious. The lentil filling was warm and very well flavoured with ginger, garlic and spices, while the Southern style pie was rich and meaty with hints of sweetness from the apple. The chips were tasty, but nothing out of this world. They use a fairly regular cut of fries, and top it with tasty cheese, cream cheese and some gravy. It's definitely a rich side, perfect for a cold night. Service here is really very friendly and we were served with a smile, and very quickly too! The range of sweet pies here is something you MUST see - there's oreo, twix, key lime and other cheesecakes too, all being sold at really reasonable prices. It's a cheap lunch option, and one that'll fill you up really well too :D

Was really excited to come here with such a good rating and photos online but what a disappointment!!!!<br/>Pricy pies that were dry, with no sauce at all inside! The pastry was basic and the size average. $8.50-9 per pie I would expect a lot more!!! <br/>Was looking forward to trying the dessert pies but after tasting the savory pies we couldn't wait to get out. <br/>Drinking cups displayed but no water on hand for customers, service wasn't great. <br/>The sides menu is confusing, don't be fooled by the +$1 sweet potato fries!
Thomas Mikhail
The infamous Pie Tin is a must to visit if youā€˜re ever in Sydney. The vast range of pies are tasty however it comes at a price. Prices range from approximately $7-$9 for a slice but their pies are to die for! I tried their key lime pie and it was full of zest and was so crumbly. Located near King St in Newtown, The Pie Tin will satisfy those pie cravings!
Michelle
Good portion for pie, very decent pies, I really enjoy the cookies and cream. <br/>Savoury pie is good too, also enjoyed potato salad. Place is quiet good for small groups.
MiffyEats
The Pie Tin is a cosy establishment tucked away from the tustle and bustle of King Street. It has a really nice interior of exposed brick and an industrial feel.<br/><br/>We ordered two pies and three sides between two people and this was way too much food. They're very generous with their portions of sizes and the meat pies off full of filling.<br/><br/>I don't think I've had beef as seasoned as the beef that was in the plain mince pie. The filling was a real flavour explosion. The crust was buttery and delicious.<br/><br/>The steak bacon and cheddar cheese pie taste as good as it sounds. Lots of chunky steak pieces drizzled with golden melted cheddar and sprinkled with bacon bits. Yummo!<br/><br/>Even besides hit the spot. The sweet potato fries were crispy, fluffy and dusted with salt. The Greek salad had lots of feta and olives. The potato salad was chunky and creamy. We could have just had the potato salad as a main and be satisfied. <br/><br/>You need to battle for your table as there is no table service or allocated seating and can get busy at times. The place is clean and the staff are friendly. Been here many times.
Matt Chen
Look the sweet pie was nice. But the piece we got was tiny. Just be aware that you might get a tiny piece for the 6-7 dollar slice. Place was a bit dead on a Friday night.
Victor X
Great savoury and sweet pies with massive sides available. My standard is the duck and cointreau or pulled pork with a double side of sweet potato. <br/>The sweet pies never disappoint. Treat yo-self and try one of the cake shakes.
Thao Nguyen
I absolutely love this place. I'm not a big fan of pie, however, this all changed when I came here. I remember trying the banana and cream pie and it's been my favourite every since. It's the only one I ever have when coming here. Although, Newtown has poor parking, this place is surely worth the trip.
Eunifoodie
The pies here are pretty damn good - especially the banoffee one. I highly recommend getting sides with the savoury pies because the sides are šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ‘ŒšŸ» - the sweet potato fries are beautiful. A bit pricey tbh but good pies nonetheless.

This is where I go in sydney when I have a "Me Day". Best pies I've ever had and just a nice place to relax as well. A variety of sweet and savory treats, coffee and my usual addition, milkshakes.
Frankiieshungrytummy
Ordered a potato pie of some sort and it was literally filled with onion!<br/>Ughhhhh!!!<br/>Pies here are over priced for what they are. <br/>Dessert pies are a bit sickening. <br/>Service is okay but not great. <br/>Located off of King St so is easy to get to.
Fiona Nguyen
Decent prices $6-8 for meat pies and cheesecakes. Cheesecakes were to die for!!! However, staff did not look like they wanted to be there at all

Meat Pie is one of the underrated Aussie iconic food items so we are eager to find out the best pies in town. A few weeks ago I got recommended The Pie Tin in Newtown (a.k.a. the hipsters area).Ā . The pie shop is considerably spacious with a delicious selection of sweet and savoury pies. Indecisive people may be in trouble because there are way too many options. It's not just about pies though, there is a real good selection of beer for you to go with your pie and you know we love our friends, Wayward!

She's my cherry pieee ohh something something such a sweet surprise cake so good bring a tear to your eye, sweet cherry piiieeee yeah! *Dunnun danaaa danadanadana*

Absolutely disgusting service while you wait for your takeaway they ignore doing your order and get everyone else's it I wait 20 minutes two people walked in the stopped getting my order and served other people absolutely ridiculous bad customer service
Rozz113
My friend likes the pies. The dessert is very aweet and decadent so for some of them you may need to share or just have a loooong walk afterwards. The coffee is nice too. Service okay.
Eatwithyourmouth
It has always baffled me how this place gets a high review rating. The pies are gluggy with stupidly thick crusts, and everything served tastes average at best. Perhaps because it's so consistent, and persistent, it's developed something of a cult following?
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_ausĀ <br/><br/>The Pie Tin does amazing sweet and savoury pies. We came here wanting to try the Oreo pie but were disappointed to see they were not available. So we had to settle for the Tim Tam Pie (haha) but it was still amazing. Definitely a must try for people with a sweet tooth, we barely managed to finish the slice between 3 people!
Nem
Yummy pies, they have really cool and different flavours that I assume they change every day. I tried the duck one (forgotten the name oops) and it was awesome! The garlic mash was kind of expensive though, $3.50 for a scoop.... dunno but it tasted good. Need to go back and try the dessert pies šŸ˜„

This hidden gem is your go to comfort food! The pastry on the pies and the unique filling are to die for! <br/>After much time of narrowing down our list to two flavours, we went with the Sunday lamb roast and mac and cheese pies. Both flavour did not disappoint, and the pastry is what a pastry should be- buttery, flaky and melting in your mouth! <br/>It's the perfect lunch place, and remember you always have to finish a meal off with something sweet. This place has so many amazing sweet choices that we may have taken 2... or 3 sweet pies to go, packed up in a cute little take away box šŸ˜‰ would defiantly recommend the choc ganache, banoffee and Oreo cream pie.<br/>The people working at the cafe were just lovely and friendly and so helpful when we had to narrow down our flavour choices!!
Dane
The pastry is thick in all the wrong ways; the coffee is average; the vegetarian fillings are good. Review based solely on their vegetarian pies and their coffee. Their dessert pies look delightful but I don't have a sweet tooth. Will review again after trying the sweets.

Pie Tin located in heart of newtown and a place we have been in love with for many years, sells both savoury and sweet pies as well as cakes. With a very rustic interior you can smell the pies from the street. Your savoury options vary from pulled pork in an apple sauce to beef cooked in a red wine sauce. All the pastry is house made and the ingredients are top quality. There is no mystery meat in these pies as you will see the chunks of meat inside your pie. You can also pair this with chips, mash or salad or even all three depending on how hungry you are.<br/><br/>If you are still hungry definitely try one of the sweet pies or cakes, we have tried the oreo and it was super delicious! But if you're notĀ much of a sweet tooth it may be best to share 1 between two as the slices are quite large and very sweet. The prices are very reasonbale so you won't have to spend a fortune to have a great meal. The service is great and they sell unique craft beers that pair well with the food.
Leon
There were a large variety of pies at the Pie Tin which you could choose from. I tried the recommended Apple pulled pork and Oreo pie. The Oreo pie was excellent but the pulled pork pie was so dry that I threw it away after a few bites. <br/><br/>I would probably return to try other pies.
Good Food Good Mood
Choosing a slice of pie was honestly one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make in my life. I eventually painstakingly settled on three devouring one fabulous savoury Mexican pie and then diving into a sweet creamy Malteaser followed by a peanut butter chocolate. Now PB choc was a game changer for me. Like its the sort of thing you would request as your last meal if you were on death row. Texturally it had everything, the crunch and sweetness of the caramelised peanuts, the rich creamy chocolate centre and the sweet sweet biscuit base. I'm already planning my next trip to Sydney to try the rest of the range
Tastingthecloud
I absolute love this place's dessert pie. The savoury pie is good but not the best I had. but dessert pie is definitely something that i come back again and again.Ā <br/><br/>It change its dessert pie menu regularly but I tried following in the past:<br/><br/>Orio<br/>Big apple pie<br/>Lemon tart<br/>Chocolate/Pecan (can't remember, but its chocolate with some sort of nut)<br/>Caramel<br/><br/>I love the orio one the best, its creamy and soft, like eating ice cream.Ā <br/>Big apple pie is ridiculously big and I can't finish it in two meal! it looks like two apples for me.Ā <br/><br/>They also have daily specials now and then and sometimes have very interesting choice. Highly recommend

Stopped off here out of curiosity and was blown away...... great atmosphere, and fab food. Coffee was good too. give it a go, its more than what the name suggests... pies a really really good ..... very very tasty .

Wonderful place and atmosphere. Authentic and fresh. Very generous servings and great value for money. Staff were relaxed, friendly and helpful.

Went here as I was in the area and felt like meal to line the stomach before some beverages. Got a pie and sweet potato fries. Look I love a pie and this was ok, flaky pastry but could be better; a bit crispier or something. Chips were delicious. I had a pink lady cider to go with it. I have been on other occasions and can quote that the duck pie is awesome. Prices are very cheap!
Bucky McGee
The home to some of the tastiest and most exorbitantly priced pies in Sydney. There is always some absolute loser in here eating their pie with a knife and fork whenever I visit. The dessert pies are super delicious too.
Those Who Love To Eat
After many 'oh! We should have gone to pie tin' we finally made it.<br/>It's Sunday and having a pie for breakfast or brunch sounded like a perfectly good thing to do. I tell myself that if it's a gourmet pie, it's justifiable.<br/>The pie tin is just around the corner from seven eleven on King St. A dark grey building that sits on a corner and can't be missed. There is that barn yard feel interior. The dark wood furniture gives it that feel. When you walk in, the dessert pies are on your left near the coffee machine and the savoury pies are opposite the door, so when you walk in, you'll instantly spot those hot pies. They are also known for their pie shakes that sounded interesting, but for $11.50, I wonder how flood it really is? If it wasn't so early in the morning, I might have tried for the novelty value. <br/>This establishment serves sweet and savoury pie, but we went for their savoury pies.<br/>We ordered a chilli lovin' and their slowed cooked beef pies which were quite tasty, but rather spicy for a first thing in the morning. Nevertheless, I have accomplished a mission and can say with earnestness that the pies are tasty and worth a visit. There may be a next time for dessert pies which I have been hearing so much about.
Nancy
Tried The Pie Tin for lunch today and decided to try both a savoury and sweet pie. For savoury, I chose the beef brisket and mushroom pie. The pastry was delicious as was the meat, which was tender and seasoned well. For sweet, my friends and I shared a peanut butter and chocolate tart. Neither of us were wowed by it. For me, it wasn't sweet enough - it felt like something was missing. Service wasn't too great either. I was served by a lady who looked like she genuinely did not want to be there and was rather abrupt with customers. It is also quite pricey especially considering places like Bourke St Bakery are a few dollars cheaper.
Coffeebrunchanddinner
On a cold winterā€™s day you want something to warm you up. This was the place for a group of us not too long ago. The interior of The Pie Tin is industrial looking and there are individual tables or a big communal table in the middle. The pie selection is more than just your meat, steak and kidney, veg etc and is sure to have something for all lovers of pastry coated goodness. The ability to have both sweet and savoury eats is sure to impress as well. I can recommend any of the Duck pies and couple this with a cider or two and you have your remedy for any cold-day blues. Try the a slice of the huge apple pie if you are really hungryā€¦ That thing should be nicknamed the Big Apple!
Rukmini Singh
Not bad, but not amazing. The pie slices are too large and not well balanced in terms of flavour. The service is good and the ambience is okay. <br/>
Rebecca Tay
Some of the pies can be a little hit and miss, but overall I find them interesting to try and more often than not tasty. The portion sizes are generous and the staff are friendly.<br/>I wouldn't recommend the apple pie which tasted quite plain.
Michael Li
Good but not amazing. That's probably the best way to describe the Pie Tin. Made an effort to trek to Newtown for this, and was not disappointed. The range of dessert pies are really extensive. The atmosphere being old fashioned with lots of wooden boards. Staff were friendly in giving suggestions on what to decide for.Ā <br/><br/>Ordered the lime flavoured pie for $9ish, and would recommend for anybody who doesn't want excess sweet desserts (like the tim-tam and rockyroad ones). Definitely a place worthy to try in Newtown though!
Fipizzaona
The desert pies are delicious! So far I have tried snickers, Mars bar, malteasers and Tim Tam flavours abd by far I would recommend the malteasers flavour. It tastes so great as well as looking so delicious
Perdii
Mars bar pie is to die for! <br/>I do suggest you share it with someone šŸ˜<br/> <br/>
Becesque
One of the best pie places in Sydney I've tried. I love their sweet potato fries and it's always a hard choice deciding between a savoury or sweet pie. The pies are super filling! My go to one is the banger and mash :) The crust is a bit dry but their fillings are generous and 10x better than the ones in the frozen section of the supermarket.
Rachel Wong
Both my friend and I went here for lunch this afternoon. Was a nice place to try out if you want to grab for a quick meal. We've tried the belgian chocolate and walnut brownie and another savoury one which was the slow roasted shredded pork with apple and bbq sauce with kumera chips. What i could said is that the kumera chips was soooooo delicious and u should have to try it!
TresHungry
Honestly I was so disappointed with my visit. I have a major sweet tooth and after seeing all the sweet pies online I knew I had to make a visit to The Pie Tin.Ā <br/><br/>First of all, the service was appalling. All the staff, with the exception of one lovely waitress, looked like they didn't want to be there, and the one who was preparing the savoury dishes was extremely rude. She was rather aggressive and would carelessly chuck the dishes onto the counter. We asked whether there were metal forks available rather than the plastic ones we saw, and she just curtly replied with "dish washer" without even looking up at us.Ā <br/><br/>The ordering system was rather unclear. After you order, they give you a number and you wait for it to be called. We ordered coffees along with our pies, and when our numbers were called we didn't realise it was for the coffees and went over to the other counter thinking our pies were ready. The coffees ended up being left on the other counter. Luckily the friendly waitress offered to remake them for us.<br/><br/>I ordered the Blackforest Meringue Pie, which didn't taste as great as I thought it would. I really liked the meringue - it had a great texture and wasn't sickly sweet like a lot of meringues are. The "black forest" part of the cake was very unexciting. It just tasted like some regular chocolate mousse. The chocolate tart shell had gone soft and no longer had a snap to it.<br/><br/>The savouries were better. My dad liked the duck pie, but he really enjoyed the pulled pork pie. The side salads were not bad, but nothing special. The sweet potato chips were fantastic, though. Crispy without being greasy, and nice and fluffy on the inside. They were addictive!<br/><br/>Maybe I just picked the wrong pie (perhaps I should have gone with the tim tam pie?), but the pie I tried wasn't anything special. If I come back (not very tempted to, to be honest, since the service was so terrible), I'll probably pick something different.

I like all the finer things in life, including a good old pie :). Enter The Pie Tin, a quaint little corner cafe which sells savoury and sweet pies and gives you a number on a vintage metal pie tin instead of a number on a stick or a buzzer for your order. We had the chicken and mushroom pie and the Mexican beans pie, both which hit the spot. And then a slice of pumpkin pie to satisfy the sweet tooth :). Would recommend, especially if you need a quick eat.

With all the hype around this place - the lies didn't live up to expectations. The dough was too salty and had a dry filling for a lamb roast. The service was quick though and friendly.

The pies here are plainly good. Good pastries good stuffing. The savoury pies are massive with generous amount of meat. Certainly the best pie shop in Sydney area.

Where do I start ?, with an amazing selection of Pastry and Savory Pies to choose from, there is something for everybody here.<br/><br/>Locate just off the main road, makes this an ideal place to kick back from the daily find and decor a delicious pie with a coffee

The Pie Tin has a wide range of pies and cakes. We came here to try their Slow roasted shredded pork with apple and bbq sauce pie (approx $7.90) which was not bad, however not anything amazing either. We also had their sweet potato fries ($5.90) which was an extremely generous serving, considering the price, and was quite nice - but very filling. Keen to come back to try their cakes and sweet pies.

Now this is a great pie for lunch<br/><br/>A bit on the exxy side but very delicious, loved the beef brisket<br/><br/>Generous size and definately recommend

My friend recommended this place for artisan and gourmet pies to try which is well worth the money, hidden away in a leafy side street, I loved the atmosphere of the exposed brick and tables to sit and eat the pies at it reminded me of being in a bakery. I decided to try the southern style pulled pork pie and creamy chicken carbonara with mudroom and bacon. I must say the pies were still nice and hot after sitting in the display the pastry was quite crunchy and the filling inside I thought would of been more soggy but was surprised that it wasn't and had good portions of chicken, mushroom and bacon. The shredded pulled pork was nice and chewy and nice combination of apple and BBQ sauce to tie it in! The extra bonus was the buy one get the cheaper pie free :) would love to come back and try the other pies and also sweet pies.

Being in Newtown of course this is not just an ordinary pie shop. The shop is in a heritage building with exposed brick walls and a big communal table in the middle, it instantly make you feel inviting and at home, just like an old fashion comforting pie should. However the rest of the decor and their menu, definitely keep things modern, and not make it feel out of fashion. It's hard to go pass the impressive array of pies on show, particularly the sweet pies! However, on this occasion we tried the savoury pies, the beef brisket and the roasted duck pies. The duck pie filling was delicious, definitely one of the best filling I've had. It was juicy, tender, and chunky vegetables. The pastry was nice & golden brown on top, but was bit undercooked on the inside. The beef brisket one was there in favour and the meat was soft, but it was very dry, so bit hard to finish. The serving sizes are generous, so come hungry. We will definitely come back to try the sweet pies next time. <br/><br/>p.s. bring your own knife if you are intending to share your pies or simply if you prefer to eat with knife & fork!

This is a little gem tucked away off King St and stocked full of dreamy pies of the sweet and savoury kinds. Savoury pie fillings are moorish and inventive. Sweet pies are served as huuuuge slices, are deathly decadent and just delicious. My favourite is the pumpkin pie, but I've been impressed by each one I've tasted.

Poor attitude from the service staff at the shop. Rude and snappy and I have been quite a few times. The only saving grace is that their pies are pretty tasty...
Riss
They're just so effin rude there. I've been there multiple times and every time they have the worst attitude. They're just pies... and god forbid you accidentally call the big sweet ones a "cake".<br/><br/>"Errr its a PIE!"<br/><br/>Sometimes you just have to wait until the staff has finished doing all her wiping, cake topping and chores for the day before she can actually help. Not a single "i'll be with you in a moment".<br/><br/>Decent pies, poopy pants attitudes.<br/><br/>PS - pleaseĀ  do not delete this post in future.

Recommended by a work colleague. The smell and selection of the pies are fantastic. They have a rolling menu depending on what they decide to make on the day. I had the Chicken Carbonara With White Sauce, Bacon & Mushrooms. The pie case was flaky and the filling was amazing. Had all the flavours of carbonara but in a pie. Had it served with sides of Homestyle Potato Mash & Classic Mushy Peas. The sides were a generous size and can easily be shared between two. Would love to come back here to try the dessert pies as they looked amazing too.

Anyone that knows me, knows I love a good Ol' apple pie and for $11, a slice of it seems ridiculous. However, it is amazing and ginormous! I'm left wishing I bought the whole pie!<br/>Returned the next morning before my flight back to Melbourne to try the savoury pies but no more kumera mash! :( settled for the standard mash but was still a winner with the choice because it was so creamy yet a little chunky - which I like. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough of it! The mushy peas were overpowering and salty which I eventually scraped to the side to devour the mash. The crust on my pie top was nice and crisp, though had a very soggy bottom.<br/><br/>Can't say I was a huge fan of the savoury pies and probably would've been happier with a massive chunk of one of the sweet pies.<br/>Just a suggestion also, self-serve water is always a great idea, however, in hot Sydney weather it was quite warm, maybe look into plonking in some big ice cubes or leaving replacements in the fridge?<br/><br/> Worth checking out!

If you like pie, you'll love The Pie Tin. Sweet and savoury pies galore... I love the maple duck with cointreau or the shredded pork and apple pies. They're delicious with kumara chips or salad. If you've got a sweet tooth, try the balsamic strawberry custard pie... It's so delicious! Check it out... You won't regret it.
Trying New Things
I know it's busy, and popular, and that I had 2 five year olds that were in toe, but I was disappointed with The Pie Tin and won't be back...<br/><br/>The pies are okay, the savoury are nothing on Black Star or Flour and Stone, and the sweet ones look amazing.<br/><br/>The thing that disappointed me we the seeming lack of care with staff: it's a 'take it or leave it' sort of place. So asking for a knife to cut the kids pies-'we don't have knives'. 'So, how do I cut the pie?' 'With the folk?'. 'Okay...thank...you'. <br/><br/>I ordered two plain cold milks in the smallest glass and receive one huge tumbler with milk brimming over. It's the sort of place I took the overfilled glass outside and poured it into the smaller glasses on the grass, since it seemed the easiest solution: I knew I wasn't gonna get anywhere asking, or if I did the pain (and pained look on the staff) seemed too much for me at the time.<br/><br/>So, fine: I won't come back. It won't matter of course, but I wanted you to know dear reader...

I came in on a Saturday morning before work hoping to try their famous hot pie. Unfortunately after reaching the destination, I realised they were still preparing as they open at 10. I popped my head into the window and asked if I could just get a quick takeaway as I start work at 10. Thankfully the lady was awesome to offer me a pie, but as the hot pies weren't ready, I took a cookies n cream pie instead. First few bites were great but a little too rich as I finished half of it. 5 for the service and 3 for the food.

Love the artisan pies at The Pie Tin! Their savoury pies are divine but equally delicious are their sweet pies. I got this peanut chocolate ganache pie for my friend's birthday which everyone enjoyed. Quite a decadent and rich pie though so best to have this with some tea.

Ordered the chunky beef and stout pie as a meal with sweet potato chips and a pulled pork pie as a meal with potato salad and Greek salad. The pies were tasty and were well filled with meat. The chunky beef pie definitely had chunks of beef it - living up to its name. The pastry of the pies weren't too thick and weren't too thin - it was perfect. The sweet potato chips were average. The Greek salad had no dressing on it and was my least favourite part of the meal. The potato salad was a little bit better but could have been improved upon.

Yum! Great coffee and delicious pies. We only had the sweet pies and I will definitely be returning to try their savoury ones. We ordered the banana and Nutella pie and the peanut butter and chocolate. Really rich and dense, good for those who have a sweet tooth. Coffee is great also.

This is hands down THE best pie shop I've ever visited. Although it is of course a cafƩ. The eyes boggle from the moment you look at the gourmet selection staring right back at'cha.<br/><br/>There's something to tantalise everyone's taste buds. At $7.95 they are value for money. The pies are the thickest in town and I'm not saying they look stupid, but they are insanely thick!<br/><br/>I chose the butter chicken with green beans pie. To make it a meal you get 2 choices of salad for $13.95. Served on canteen metal plates, characteristic of the feel which goes with the name. There's a cool open plan dining area with open windows so you get a nice breeze. There is an awesome selection of dessert style pies on offer. I look forward to trying a few of them over a period of time.<br/><br/>I would have given The Pie Tin 5 stars even on my first visit. My one disappointment though is that this cafƩ only supplies forks for dine in. What well deserving 5 star cafƩ doesn't have knives as part of their eating utensils?<br/><br/>Overall, that is my only criticism and you definitely should create your own experience and pick up your mother sized pie with your hands. This is the way they were made to be enjoyed, right?!

I was recommended this place by my brother and his girlfriend a couple of months ago but just found the time to try it out today. Ā I couldn't decide between the slow roasted shredded pork with apple and bbq sauce, beef with green peppercorn sauce or beef sausage bangers and mash. Ā The assistant kindly recommended me her favourite - beef with green peppercorn sauce, which was a winner. Ā <br/>I started taking photos of the pie and wanted to take one of the inside but the pie was so delicious that I completely forgot until I realised there was nothing left to photograph.

This place was all good until they gave me a meat pie instead of vego! They can go to hell. You would think in Newtown they would get it right!!!!!
Meissya Kurniawan
They have indulgence sweet and savour pies! I'm a chocolate person and i'm loving the chocolate pies they have! Both served with a big portion. A bit pricey for a slice of pie but it is really good!

The sweet and savoury pies here are delightful.Ā However, Pie Tin gets VERY humid during summer and it's hard to find a table during lunch hours.Ā Also if you're a usyd student, they accept ACCESS cards which is awesome.<br/><br/>The Oreo pie and American pumpkin pie are my favourites. Their savoury pies are good and very filling especially if you opt for sides.<br/>I don't recommend the apple pie (Pie that Ate Newtown). It was very tart and the pastry to apple ratio was way off. Too much apple. It would've been nice if it had come with ice-cream to balance and off-set the tart of the apple.Ā We kind of predicted this and paid extra for ice cream but the scoop was so small for the size of the pie. Pretty disappointing.
